Our group of Sector Policing patrollers are dedicated and are quite definitely making an impact in the areas patrolled,” said Pat Unsworth, Acting Chairperson of the Uitenhage Community Policing Forum under which the Sector Policing operates. The Uitenhage CPF has been operating for the past 15 years with meetings at 17:00 on every first Thursday of each month at the police station in Church Street. During these CPF meetings, accurate monthly crime

said Unsworth. The Uitenhage CPF is equipped with a first of its kind in the country, computer programme which was created by Sector Policing IT specialist Etienne Joubert. They also have their own website www.uitenhagecpf.co.za and are on Facebook. “If you want to keep your finger on the pulse of your community and get accurate statistics, attend the CPF meetings. It is just an hour of your time. Bad behaviour not tolerated at rugby derby

t is dish-up time on Saturday at the Uitenhage Central Sports Field when two of the town’s prominent rugby clubs will face each other in the final of the 2014 Super 12 rugby competition. Progress and Gardens both of which went unbeaten in their respective pools qualified for this prestige rugby final. “We are viewing this rugby match in a serious light and will make sure that all safety

and security measures required by the Metro Disaster Management office will be put in place. There will be zero tolerance regarding bad behaviour at this rugby match,” said Brian Salters, President of Progress Rugby and Football Club The last time these two clubs met in 2012, everything went well and smoothly as Progress executive made sure all safety and

security requirements were met. “Progress will have security to assist the police, who will be present in full force to ensure the sporting event will be safe and sound for all attending.” One of Progress’ executive members, Colin Agulhas, mentioned that vehicles will be searched and no alcohol, glass objects or any dangerous items will be allowed on the sports grounds.

More space for stalls at Uitenhage Market The outdoor Uitenhage Market organised by Women in Business has successfully relocated to the Old Concentration Camp festival grounds on the outskirts of Uitenhage and can now host even more stalls. “The feedback of our last market was very good. We accommodated 135 stalls and more than 4 000 people visited the market. This is brilliant. Thank you to the public for their positive attitude and support,” said Lilly de Jong from Women in Business. “Most of our stallholders have booked in advance, but there is ample space for new stalls.” Apart from more space for stalls, the parking area is enormous and the ablution facilities in a neat condition. To mention a few names of the well known Uitenhage muso’s playing there are Pierre van der Westhuizen, Rob Visser, Charles Bekker, Jannie Claasen, Vic Hugo, Tizzie Gottini, Athol Stow and the Smith Brothers. Three musicians from the international scene namely Johan Williams, Cameron Jones from the UK and Billy Bakker from Australia are also joining the show . )Rock the Hage will be held at the Uitenhage Golf Club at 19:00 on 28th and 29th March and there will be food and beverages available. Davidson pilots will roam in the sky ;The Doug Davidson Memorial Airshow will be part of the Wings & Wheels Festival to be held at the Uitenhage Airfield during the weekend of 2729 March. It is named after Doug Davidson who on 11 October 1992 passed away after having a massive heart attack whilst taking off in his Pitts Special aircraft at the Uitenhage Airfield. Seen on the photo are pilots (from left) Patrick Davidson and Stu Davidson, descendants of Doug Davidson at the Aero L39 Albatros high performance jet which will be seen in action at the airshow. Die groot trekpleister was die skool se drie rugbywedstryde teen Hoërskool DF Malherbe. Kirkwood se o.15 rugbyspan het soos kampioene gespeel, en dit was ‘n ideale verjaarsdag present vir afrigter Ryno Lombaard. Die eindtelling was 14-0 en die Kirkwood kannetjies het elke oomblik gebruik om hulle oorwinning te vier. Die hoofwedstryd was tussen die eerste spanne van DF Malherbe en Hoërskool Kirkwood. Weereens het dinge reggeloop vir Kirkwood en die eindtelling was 23-0. Die tweede span het ook hulle wedstryd teen DF Malherbe gewen met 15-12. Die fondasie is gelê vir groot mededinging hierdie jaar en kragmetings vorentoe tussen hierdie twee skole sal met groot belangstelling gevolg word.

Op die hokkieveld het die spanne van Cradock, Framesby, Volkskool en Gill kragte gemeet. Ook op die netbalbaan was daar baie opwinding. Kirkwood was bevoorreg om die bekende SA en internasionale skeidsregter Theresa Prince tydens die sportdag in aksie te kon sien. Die netbalwedstryde het op ‘n rondomtalie basis op die vier verskillende bane plaasgevind. Hier het afrigters die geleentheid gekry om met wedstryd ruilings hulle spanne te verander om aan die einde van die dag die perfekte kombinasie saam te stel. Lions’ ladies tea a huge success The Uitenhage Lions Ladies initiated and hosted a morning tea with the nationally renowned motivational speaker Gretha Wiid. Gretha has an Honours Degree in Sex Education, Educational Psychology, as well as African Languages and Culture. She is best described as an author, speaker, business woman and is an inspiration to scores of people. The tea which was held at the Uitenhage Town Hall was attended by 278 ladies from Uitenhage, Despatch, Kirkwood, Port Elizabeth and even some from Johannesburg. Gretha has provided the Uitenhage Lions Club permission to sell her surplus DVDs to the public. A swipe here and there ... A good dose of financial discipline will spare you future headaches and lay the foundation for good spending habits and sound financial principles. Old Mutual’s Crispin Sonn lists 10 steps to manage your money better, adapted from Old Mutual’s On the Money financial education programme. Where am I? • Make a list of what you spend. Nowadays, money can seem unreal, just a swipe here and there and a number on an LCD screen. Many of us know that we’re not doing well financially, but hide from the uncomfortable reality until we are forced to face it. • Write down your fixed expenses: for example, rent or bond instalments, union membership fees and insurance premiums. • Now list your variable expenses: for example, food, transport, rates, cellphone, entertainment and clothing. Don’t sabotage your efforts by underestimating costs. • List your irregular expenses: for example, car maintenance, home repairs and so on. Try to work out an average monthly cost. Again, when in doubt, it’s better to slightly overestimate than get caught short. • Lastly, add together all your cost estimates.

If the total is more than your earnings, you need to act. But pat yourself on the back first: now that you know exactly where you are with your spending habits, you’re already in a stronger position financially. Back in the black • List your expenses in order of importance. You need accommodation, transport and food, but consider whether you can reduce or even eliminate some of your other expenses, such as entertainment and clothing. • Now use the money that you’ve cut out of your budget to start servicing your debt, especially credit and store card debts. You’ve got the power • Establish a basic emergency fund for unexpected expenses, once you’re debt free. A month’s salary is a good start and while it may take a while to build up, it’ll give you a real sense of security once you have it. • Invest some money each month for your financial goals, like saving for your retirement and your children’s education. This excludes your employer’s pension scheme or your own retirement investments. During 2013 they took over ownership of Theron’s Garden Services, which operates on a similar basis and serves as an expansion to UD Waste. “Residential waste collection and removal services are provided exclusively by the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality or its contracted accredited service provider. Thus we are not allowed to handle residential waste. “Our core business is dry waste removal from industries, schools, hostels, businesses and shopping centres. Currently we service 102 clients on a weekly basis,” said Jean Ott, who previously was the co-owner of Levyvale Spar. According to him it is a well managed and strict field of business and all registered waste removals have to submit an integrated waste management plan. Zuurberg Trek mountain bike race Organisers of the PwC Great Zuurberg Trek have unveiled a route that promises equal parts effort and reward for participants in the three-day mountain bike race, which starts in Addo on May 30. Speaking at the recent launch, route designer Rob Hayter said each of the three stages had been specifically created to offer a completely different riding experience. “The diversity of these three days is going to be incredible. I don’t think you’ll see the variety of nature and tracks in any other race in the Eastern Cape.” The race, which covers more than 200km, traverses the Sundays River Valley, the Karoo and Hayterdale Trails at the foot of the Zuurberg Pass. Race director Brad Jackson, of Mountain Events, said the clover route would use the Zuurberg Mountain Village at the top of the pass as its daily rendezvous point. With a R50 000 total prize purse, participants would have an additional reward to aim for, said Jackson. )Enter at www.greatzuurbergtrek.co.za before May 7. Local klawerjas clubs expanding Polo Cats Klawerjas Club was the winner of the J. Schultz Memorial Trophy which was played at VWSA PeoplePavilion.
