Mi Casa joins 50th celebrations HEILIE COMBRINCK

hat better way to celebrate a 50th anniversary than being joined by one of South Africa’s top bands, Mi Casa! This three-man band will grace Uitenhage High and its supporters with their presence during the schools anniversary celebrations next Friday, 22 August. “It is all systems go for this historic and magnificent event. Tickets are selling like hot cakes!” said an excited Phillip Joseph, who spoke on behalf of Uitenhage High and the organising committee. Musicians Dr Duda, J’Something and Mo-T formed Mi Casa during 2011 and soon afterwards released their first album, which went gold quickly and won several awards. Their hit single “These Streets” showcased their unique urban jazz sound. The 50th year celebrations will be held at the Uitenhage Indoor Sports Centre at 20:00. Several local artists who have attended Uitenhage High during the past 50 years will also perform during the event. Tickets to see Mi Casa are R150 and available from teachers and learners from Uitenhage High. ‘Sir Waaiwors’ - a mockery of fine citizens

The Uitenhage 14 Round Table and Uitenhage Lions Club will be presenting this year’s Melodrama with the theme “Sir Waaiwors”. This is an epic tale of knights and fights, witches and glitches, bad rhyming and worse timing as well as a...pot. Will Sir Waaiwors survive the onslaught of fate? Can the hunchback carry the burden that rests
on his shoulders, or in this case, his back? This medieval soapie features a host of weird and wacky characters, all delightfully brought to life by the worst actors in the community. Critics have called the play “a slap in the face of good taste” and “a mockery of fine citizens and a travesty of decency”. They do all agree, however, that it is not to be missed. able to satisfy the thirsty and hungry. The show will take place over the weekends of 29 & 30 August and 5 & 6 September commencing 19:30 for 20:00. Tickets are R70 per person with all proceeds raised distributed to charities and the needy in our local communities of Uitenhage and Despatch.
