Kontrakteur Manie Strydom van BM Services, die projekbestuurder verantwoordelik vir die montering van die klaskamers by Jubileepark Primêr, het gesê elke klaskamer beslaan sowat 56m². Dit sal sowat twee weke duur om al die klaskamers gereed te kry. Kettledas sê nog goeie nuus is dat die tenders vir kontrakteurs vir die bou van splinternuwe permanente klaskamers, ‘n sportterrein en die totale opgradering van die skoolgeboue in die finaliseringsfase is. “Ons vertrou dat bouwerk vroeg aanstaande jaar sal begin. Dit is hoog tyd want die ‘Plankieskool’ is al vir die afgelope 61 jaar ‘tydelik’ en ons wag nou al baie jare vir hierdie opgradering.”

eerders van Jubileepark Primêr kan uitsien om die laaste kwartaal weer normale skoolure agter skoolbanke in te skuif nadat die eerste van tien tydelike klaskamers verlede week by die skool afgelaai is. “Ons is baie verlig en bly dat die tydelike klaskamers uiteindelik hier aangekom het. Nou kan skoolwerk weer normaal aangaan,” sê Lorna Bosman, skoolhoof van Jubileepark Primêr op Uitenhage. Sowat 539 leerders is geaffekteer nadat twee klaskamers, die skool se biblioteek en ‘n pakkamer einde Mei vanjaar afgebrand het. “Ons was verplig om alternatiewe reëlings te tref om toe te sien dat al 1 195 leerders kan voortgaan met hulle skoolwerk. Leerders moes daarom in oggend- en middagskofte ingedeel word.” Volgens Mervyn Kettledas, voorsitter van die beheerliggaam het die onderwysers uit hul pad gegaan om toe te sien dat leerders op

Motorklub pak die mooie Roete 62 aan HEILIE COMBRINCK
“
Concept Crew klublede besluit het om ons eie roete te beplan,” het Francois Fouché gesê. “Ons het koppe bymekaargesit en die wiele was aan die rol met die nodige aksieplanne, fondsinsamelings is gehou en lootjies is verkoop ten einde soveel moontlik van die onkostes vir die roete te help betaal.” Die gebruik van die Roete 62 kenteken is geverifieër en plakkers is spesiaal vir die toer ontwerp wat op al die deelnemende motors aangebring sal word. Janse van Rensburg sê “die doel van die roadtrip is om Concept Crew, wat in 2011 op Despatch gestig is, te bemark en gedagtes uit te ruil oor die bewaring van motors vir die nageslag.”
Dit sal darem mooi klink as ‘n paar V8 motors tussen die berge ry en die kronkelpad deur Meiringspoort aanpak!”
Hierdie gedagte het verlede jaar posgevat onder die manne van Concept Crew Motorklub tydens ‘n besoek aan Oudsthoorn en omgewing. “Dit is die klub se eerste georganiseerde sirkelroete en ons het besluit om dit Roadtrip via Route 62 te noem. Daar sal 21 motors uit verskeie eras aan die toer deelneem,” sê Pierre Janse van Rensburg, voorsitter van Concept Crew Motorklub. Nog ‘n lid van dié klub, Francois Fouché vertel dat een van die groot gebeurtenisse onder motorklublede regoor die land, is die jaarlikse Thunder Tour. Dit is wanneer eienaars van kragtige V8 motors ’n roete deur die land aanvat. “Dit was juis na die vorige Thunder Tour wat ‘n draai in die Baai gemaak het, dat ons

Die roete Concept Crew se wiele vir die Roadtrip via Route 62 begin rol op Donderdag, 26 September om 07:00 met die wegtrek by Despatch se Glaskerk. Hulle sal dan die
N2 volg tot op Knysna. Daarna gaan hulle besoek aflê en kuier in George, Mosselbaai en Oudtshoorn voordat hulle op 30 September die pad terugvat huistoe. “Ons beplan om verskeie besighede in die Suid-Kaap te besoek wat veteraanmotors restoureer asook ’n paar motorversamelaars,” het Janse van Rensburg gesê. ’n Totaal van sowat 50 mense, bestaande uit 17 geregisteerde klublede en hulle families gaan die Roadtrip via Route 62 meemaak. “Ons is baie opgewonde en tel die dae af! Eienaars van motors wat op die roete gaan is al vir ’n geruime tyd besig om seker te maak alles is slaggereed vir hierdie toer. “Die bestuur van Concept Crew Motorklub sowel as die Roadtrip via Route 62 komitee bedank graag almal wat ‘n bydrae gelewer het om hierdie toer moontlik te maak,” het Janse van Rensburg gesê. )Veilige reis en “hou die rubber op die grond en die blink kant bo!”

In two week’s time a popular marathon organised by Muirite Striders will be held in Uitenhage and Despatch and one of the 15 waterpoints, next to the R334 towards Motherwell, is in a mess. “This is unacceptable, waterpoints are identified at specific spots, and this one at the 33km mark is in a terrible state,” said Margie du Toit, Chairperson of Muirite Striders Athletics Club. “It has been cleaned during last week, but during the past weekend some residents have againt dumped blue refuse bags at this spot.” According to Councillor Terblanche, municipal officers have indicated that they would clean the area prior to the marathon. Unopened mail, accounts, flight boarding tickets, baby nappies and prescription medicine boxes with surnames like Hempe, Rudman, Nortje, Gcukumana and others were found on the specific spot next to the R334. “Please stop the dumping, we all want to live in an environment that is clean and well looked after,” said Councillor Terblanche.

Police warning to watch out for bogus ‘customers’ The South African Police Service in Uitenhage wishes to send out a warning to the public concerning two females that are going around visiting schools and businesses, acting under false pretences. According to Warrant Officer Gerda Swart, these females are sometimes accompanied by a male. “Allegedly as soon as they have left the business or school they have visited, a handbag or purse is missing. The public need to be aware of these so-called customers’ movements,” said W/O Swart. Make sure all valuable items, handbags and wallets are kept in a safe and secure place. Die Koreane was ook verbaas oor Brandwag se rugbykaptein, Elandré van der Merwe, se blouoog na ’n wedstryd. Nog ’n Skype-sessie word vir Oktober beplan voor Brandwagmatrieks se finale eksamen begin.

Die projek is geloods deur ’n oud-Brandwagter, Lene Roux, wat tans Engels gee by Maecheon High School in Daegu, Suid-Korea. Roux is die dogter van Eurika Roux, akademiese hoof en Engelsonderwyser by Brandwag, en het in Mei ’n Facebook-groep geskep om interaksie te bewerkstellig tussen haar Suid-Koreaanse studente en die matrieks by Brandwag. Leerders uit die twee lande kan mekaar in die groep oor en weer vrae vra, foto’s van hul skole plaas en idees uitruil oor hoe die skoolstelsel hier verskil van Suid-Korea. “Die doel van die projek was om die Koreane se Engels te verbeter en om die kulturele kennis van studente in albei lande uit te brei,” het Roux gesê. Vroeg in Augustus het ’n groep Brandwag-matrieks ’n ongewone “les” beleef toe hulle tydens Engelsklas deur middel van Skype met hulle eweknieë in Suid-Korea kon gesels. Brandwagters het onder meer geleer Maecheon is ’n akademiese skool, wat beteken leerders word streng gekeur om dié Brandwag se graad 12’s leer meer oor Suid-Korea se skool te mag bywoon. Six members of the Khanyisa Sewing & Multi-purpose close corporation in Mandelaville are now looking forward to getting their business in full operation after receiving four brand new sewing machines. “We have identified this project as it will fulfil a great need in the community as they will provide from schoolwear to traditional wear,” said Councillor Dick Leonard. It was started by Limanyikhaya Madwara and Noluthando Menziwe who also took reception of the brand new sewing machines during the official hand-over. According to Councillor Leonard this was
part of his discretionary fund received from the Nelson Mandela Metropole to assist in the community wherever the potential is to empower members and create job opportunities. It is the fourth project supported by Councillor Leonard in his Ward. The others who benefited include Grace Unlimited music group, an old age group who were treated with a performance by Soul Temptations and the Eagle Stars Rugby Club who recieved rugby jerseys. After an impressive 19 years as Premier Soccer League referee, Volkswagen Group South Africa’s (VWSA), Buyile Gqubule has called it a day. Gqubule, who manages the VWSA PeoplePavilion - the world class sports and recreational facility for its employees - will now concentrate on developing up and coming referees in Nelson Mandela Bay. “Taking into account age and recurring injuries, I feel now is the right time to call it quits. I have no regrets; I have enjoyed 19 fruitful years on the pitch. I would mostly like to thank SAFA and my refereeing colleagues for the support in making my refereeing journey a success,” said Gqubule. “The greatest highlights of my career included being awarded the 2010 Referee of the
Year, officiating in Africa’s biggest derby, the Soweto Derby involving Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. I also did duty in some world class international friendly matches and I would say my best game was the MTN 8 semifinal between Chiefs and Ajax Cape Town.” Gqubule will now dedicate his time to the development of referees at the lower leagues. He said there were numerous referees who had the potential to “make it big in the professional ranks”. “I am involved in a referee development programme in the Local Football Association (LFA) and through the support of Sedgars we are able to provide these upcoming referees with training equipment. I will always remain a referee at heart and will officiate in the LFA games from time to time. “We have over 50 Level 4 referees at the LFA level who with support and proper guidance
have the potential to be amongst the best referees in South Africa. We hope to see them move on in their careers to become FIFA and CAF accredited referees,” said the Eastern Cape-based official. Acting head of SAFA Referees Department, Lindile ‘Ace’ Kika said it was a big loss to the national panel to lose a referee of Buyile’s calibre. Qgubule states that running VWSA’s PeoplePavilion will also keep him close to the beautiful game. The PeoplePavilion features sports as diverse as taebo, netball, indoor cricket and klawerjas. And Qgubule’s passion for soccer remains well represented in both indoor and outdoor soccer as well as Soccer coaching for VWSA employees’ kids. Inaugural varsity netball series Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University has been selected to host the three-day opening leg of the inaugural Varsity Netball series, which starts in Port Elizabeth on September 21. The action-packed series, which draws its inspiration from the popular Varsity Cup rugby, will see eight tertiary institutions competing in a fast-paced, made-for-television format. Action would take place at the Missionvale Campus on the Saturday and Sunday, with matches starting at 14:00 and 15:50. The teams then move to the university’s South Campus for the live TV broadcast on the Monday night, where UJ will take on Maties in the first game at 18:00 and NMMU will face off against UCT at 19:30. The University of Pretoria hosts Tshwane University of Technology, North-West University and the University of the Free State over the same weekend.
