The Rotary Club of Uitenhage South is appealing to the public to make Christmas a little brighter for 350 less fortunate children. From today on weekdays between 18:00 and 19:30 and on Saturdays and Sundays between 10:30 and 13:30 the Club will be manning a Tree of Joy table in front of the huge Christmas tree at the entrance of Levyvale Spar. The idea is for the public to come forward and purchase a pre-packaged gift which the Rotary Club will deliver to one of five non-profit welfare organisations in the community. The names of 350 children have been given by the charities to the Rotary Club who will allocate a gift to the name on the card and deliver the gift to the lucky child by mid December. Each gift costs only R50. By buying a gift you will indeed make some child very happy during this festive season. Please look out for the Rotarian in the store wearing his or her distinctive Rotary shirt and help make this Christmas a time of joyous giving by supporting this worthwhile cause.

EIGHT STOLEN VEHICLES FOUND IN UITENHAGE In a joint operation between the police’s Vehicle Identification and Safeguarding Section (VISS) units of Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage, eight allegedly stolen vehicles were confiscated in Uitenhage.

The operation took place on Monday morning at a secondhand motor vehicle dealership in town. “Police received valuable information which was investigated and they discovered that the vehicle

identification numbers (VIN) of eight vehicles were possibly tampered with. It was determined that two of the vehicles were stolen in Stellenbosch and Cape Town respectively during August and Octo-

ber 2012,” said police spokesperson W/O Gerda Swart. Vehicles to the value of about R400 000 were confiscated. No arrests have been made as yet, but investigations are continuing.

Bumper programme of U’hage High alumni events The Uitenhage High School alumni association has planned a bumper series of events and projects for the foreseeable future. Some of these are once-off, but most are of a continuous nature as the organisation envisions playing an ongoing and meaningful role in the lives of the pupils of the school. Already Uitenhage High Past Pupils and Teachers Association (UHPPTA) can proudly announce that its project of renovating bath-

rooms for teachers at the school is nearing completion. They extend their sincere thanks to the donors who by their generous contributions have made this possible. On Saturday from 09:00 onwards, UHPPTA will be running an alumni recruitment drive in the OK Binnehof, (opposite Cell C). In addition to new members signing up, everyone will have a chance to buy the sought-after Alumni T-shirt as well as tickets for the Golden Oldies at the Jubilee Hotel on 7 December.

The UHPPTA is also launching two new projects namely the Buy-a-Bench and CCTV camera system. With the Buy-a-Bench project, individuals, businesses and class groups (not only matric classes) may sponsor a garden bench for the school playground on which they will have their names inscribed. Already the 2012 matriculants have decided to donate a bench in memory of Chavandré Xube, a fellow matriculant who was tragically

killed in a car accident two weeks ago. The CCTV camera system project will run concurrently with the bench initiative. Again, individuals, businesses and interested groups are afforded the opportunity to contribute generously towards the purchase of these cameras. Stay & Play Educare early learning centre at 68 Innes Street, Uitenhage celebrates its first year of developing young minds, during November. Owner and manager Ghouwa Lukie is assisted by qualified Educare teachers Nazreen Damons and Shatira Redelinghuys. She believes that to “To create a holistic child, a child must be happy and a clever child needs a caring adult that unlocks the world and constancy to learn and develop”. Therefore to her it’s not just a business, but a passion to nurture young ones in a loving and homely environment. During the past year the scholarship has grown from 4 to 23 children between the ages of 2-6 years old. As from 2013 Stay & Play Educare will start with its first Grade R class. In the new year they will also host holiday care programmes, catering for children whose parents are at work and giving them the peace of mind that their young ones are taken care of in a safe environment. A syllabus for early childhood development is followed at the centre. Various activities are offered with a theme for each week.

“It is quite common for the suspensive condition to be linked to a time period. “Therefore, if the purchaser fails to obtain a bond or make an alternative arrangement, the agreement between the parties will lapse.” In response to the reader’s question as to whether a suspensive sale is the same as a “rent to buy” option, Vermaak says the two concepts are similar but don’t necessarily go hand in hand. “There may be some overlap, such as the tenant renting the property with a view to purchasing it and having a specified period in which to come up with financing. “But a suspensive condition can and usually does exist outside the rental agreement scenario, so the two aren’t always linked.” Vermaak says it is vital that there be full disclosure of any agreement between a buyer and seller to the bank where the bond is being obtained. “This applies equally to an agreement where the buyer pays off part of the purchase price or any other consideration payable to the seller.” According to Rian du Toit from DTS Attorneys in the metro, the Alienation of Land Act addresses the issue of the sale of fixed property in instalments. “The second chapter sets out the many aspects that must be addressed in such an agreement of sale, including the interest payable on the capital sum.”

Du Toit says the act is prescriptive about the provisions that must be included in the contract. “Other legislation that may be applicable is the National Credit Act. Spectacular racing A total of approximately 100 cars are expected to participate in Saturday’s racing at the PE Oval Track Raceway. Twenty-five cars will be from George and 70 from the PEOTR.
