Die plan is om die windturbine-onderdele vanaf 3 Februarie te vervoer. Volgens Tanton duur die projek tot middel Julie vanjaar. Vervoer van die ekstra-groot vragte sal nie op vakansiedae of naweke plaasvind nie, maar wel op weeksdae buite spitstye. Sowat 265 vragte oftewel tien per week sal op die roetes vervoer word. Vragmotors sal twee roetes vanaf die Ngqura-hawe gebruik om by die N2 aan te sluit afhangend van die hoogte van die vrag. Laer vragte sal via die Neptune-pad vervoer word en hoë vragte op die R102 en R334 via Uitenhage na Oesterbaai. Die roete loop van die N2 deur Humansdorp via Voortrekkerweg (R102) en dan deur op die R330 om na Oesterbaai af te draai. (Medewerker)

Three suspects arrested after brazen robbery Uitenhage police members have arrested three suspected robbers which were part of a brazen robbery at a clothing shop in Caledon Street last Thursday afternoon. According to police spokersperson W/O Gerda Swart, it is alleged that five suspects entered a clothing shop in Caledon Street, held-up the security and randomly took clothing from the shelves. The suspects then ran out with the clothing towards the taxi rank in Durban Street. Two members from Uitenhage police and two members from Kamesh police, who were patrolling the area, immediately gave chase after the suspects after they noticed the sus-

Swifts Rugby Club will have its annual memorial service for former player, members and their families at the St Katharine Anglican Church in Uitenhage on February 2. Swifts Rugby Football Club might be one of very few if not the only club in the country which was founded by a Reverend. The first curate of St Katharine’s Church, Rev. Charles Bloomer Jecks, established a boys rugby team in 1889. By 1891 the Swifts Football Club was established and during 1894 they joined the Eastern Province Rugby Union. Charity golf day held by Springrose S

pringrose Rugby Football Club will be hosting a golf day on Sunday, 2 February at the PE Golf Club, commonly known as The Hill. Springrose is one of the oldest rugby clubs in Nelson Mandela Bay and was founded in 1907. The club has produced Springboks at all levels namely Solly Tyibilika, Thando Manana, Mzwandile Stick, Mpho Mbiyozo, Lubabalo Mtyanda and Luvuyo Mhlobiso. Off the field, the club has produced rugby administrators such as Danny Jordaan, Dan Qeqe, Khaya Majola, AZ Lamani to name a few. The club finished in the top three of the EP Grand Challenge in 2013. This opened the door for them to play in the Community Cup.

TIGER IN THE POOL =Manuel Strydom, a learner from Daniel Pienaar THS received a bronze, two silver and two gold medals during the recently held interprovincial gala held in Uitenhage. He took part in two relays as well as the 50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly and 50m Breaststroke.

Redhouse teams continued to be successful in this event for many years and won the cup 14 times. For good reason, swimmers keep on coming back to do the River Mile. One of these is the legend of the River Mile, 81-year-old Mally Richards of Jeffreys Bay who has completed 60 River Mile swims since his first in 1947. “I have been swimming since I was a boy and this is what I enjoy the most. I am hoping to do this till I die,” Richards said. The Uitenhage-born pensioner now retired in Jeffreys Bay started swimming for fun at 14, while still a pupil at Muir College and swam his first River Mile in mid-1940s.
