NELSON MANDELA BAY TRAIN RACE: PORT ELIZABETH TO UITENHAGE
Ready to race REPORTER
L
ocal communities are invited to support the Nelson Mandela Bay Train Race on Sunday, July 27 and line the streets to encourage the running teams. “Together with the train, just over 2 000 people will be experiencing the thrill of the first ever train race between Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage,” said Zports Event Management operational owner, and the man behind reviving the man vs machine race, Michael Zoetmulder. The NMB Train Race starts at the Port Elizabeth station at 09:00 and proceeds along Swartkops Road before crossing Broad Street in Paterson Road. Runners will then go into Grahamstown Road through Deal Party and into Swartkops. From there the runners make their way past Redhouse and Perseverance before heading into Despatch and along Holland Way past the Despatch Station. They will then make their way up into Main Street and then into Springbok Street, before continuing along private farmland, until they come out at the Marconi Street railway crossing in Uitenhage and on to the finish at Uitenhage Station with the first team expected just after 11:00. A festival of activities, including the Castle Lite Beer Garden, braais, live music on the Coca-Cola stage and numerous vendors, will await the teams and the train passengers at the Uitenhage Station.
