Municipality changes bank account The Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality has appointed Absa Bank as its new bankers. “Residents are therefore requested to take note that they will be required to change their banking details relating to payments made to the municipality via payments at the bank and payments via EFT,” said acting director of communications, Marthie Nel. Animals pose danger to motorists Animals that are left to graze on the curbs of busy roads pose an extreme danger to motorists. There are thoroughfares such as the Rocklands Road that are notoriously dangerous. According to Pine Pienaar, MPL and Shadow MEC for Roads, at least five to six fatal accidents occur in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropole per month which can be linked to animals being on the roads. “Last week I stood witness as a vehicle narrowly missed a cow while I was photo-

graphing cattle grazing on the Rocklands Road,” said Pienaar. “While I appreciate the work being done by officials in the Metropole to control the animals during the day, a major problem occurs after hours when there is not enough manpower to impound stock such as cattle, donkeys and goats.” Pienaar urges the public to make use of the 24 hour emergency number 0079 490 0540 to report stray animals on roads in the Metropole.

Digby and The Lullaby visit U’hage Digby and The Lullaby are coming back to the Eastern Cape to perform two shows for their home town audiences. “We are doing one show in my hometown of St.Francis Bay and one in Rouchelle’s hometown of Uitenhage” says Darren Peens. “I am so excited to play in my home town for the first time,” said Rouchelle Hubsch. On piano and lead vocals, Rouchelle plays and sings with a haunting depth of emotion that far surpasses her young age. As an only child, Rouchelle

found the piano a profoundly rewarding companion. Now 22 years old and writing more than ever, she has been performing live for just over two years and the experience shows. Darren is armed with a dictaphone, a note pad and an acoustic guitar. He never stops creating and loves sharing the stage with his “favourite singer in the world”. Collectively influenced by anyone with tons of heart and a great song, Digby and The Lullaby thrive on intimate performances. The theatre is this band’s first choice of venue.

Rotary chartering its 7th interact club

The Rotary Club of Uitenhage South recently announced the chartering of its 7th Interact Club, namely the Interact Club of Uitenhage High School. The President of the Interact Club of Uitenhage High, Kealyn Brown was inducted by President Alex Govender and other Rotarians assisted with the induction of the other board members. The service club at the school was known as “Interact Club” and operated like all other Interact Clubs, but was not officially connected to a Rotary Club in order to have interna-

tional recognition. The Interact Club at Uitenhage High, with teacher Felicity Nelson as the co-ordinator, was involved with various remarkable projects such as soup kitchens, snack track, abstinence awareness and involvement with the Heart Foundation as well as Cansa projects. The occasion was attended by President Alex Govender and Rotarians from Rotary Club of Uitenhage South, the school principal, Timothy Heynes and teacher-in-charge of the Interact Club Felicity Nelson. Win tickets to Great Pretenders The highly acclaimed entertainer and impressionist, Jayson King, will be joined on stage by two Uitenhage-born singers, namely the creative blues singer, Lelané Fourie and former Syndicate Sister, Beverley Alexander as well as by regular Boardwalk diva, Charmaine Allison. They will be sharing the stage as the Great Pretenders for two nights only at the Boardwalk Vodacom Amphitheatre. The show will be featuring hits from the sixties right through to today’s greatest hits, appealing to all age groups with universally recognisable and timeless songs say Jayson King. The ladies from the Great Pretenders will be paying tribute to Diana Ross, The Supremes, The Dixie Cups, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Cher and also the Shirelles with some knock-out performances. Youth baseball has been growing in leaps and bounds in Uitenhage, Despatch and Port Elizabeth, since youngsters from the age of 6 years started participating in the T-ball sessions on Saturdays. On Saturday another “open day” will be held at PE Tigers Baseball Club, Londt Park from 09:30, where juniors can come along and play baseball. The South African Baseball Union President will announce some exciting news after the games which will give baseball in the Metropole a boost.

The East Cape Offroad Club held the 4th round of the Data Scout Championship this past weekend. This race was scheduled for two weeks earlier, but as a result of the heavy rains the venue was not accessible. The committee had to identify a new venue near Loerie and mark a route in short time, but did an excellent job. Each driver had to complete four laps of 25km. Most of the track was covered in grass, at some stages even a metre high! This provided some testing driving conditions as visibility for reading the road conditions was poor. Despatch Rugbyklub - top klub in OP HEILIE COMBRINCK Despatch Rugbyklub het vanjaar ’n uitstekende seisoen agter die rug en gaan aanstaande jaar die Oostelike Provinsie verteenwoordig in die Gemeenskapsbeker, ’n nuwe uitdaagreeks met die land se top klubs in aksie. “Ons is opgewonde want die klub het jong opwindende spelers wat oorgehaal is vir hierdie uitdaging. Oefeninge vir aanstaande jaar se seisoen skop reeds oor ’n week af,” het Marius Swanepoel, president van Despatch Rugbyklub gesê. Die klub se eerste span het vanjaar die OosKaap Super 12 toernooi gewen sowel as die Groot Uitdaagbeker en is as die OP klubkampioene gekroon. Die o.21 span was ook die wen-

ners van hulle afdeling in die provinsie. Volgens Swanepoel is die Gemeenskapsbeker soortgelyk aan die Varsity Cup met televisiedekking van al die wedstryde. Wedstryde begin reeds in Februarie 2013. Despatch Rugbyklub was die nasionale klubkampioene in 1985 en 1986 en is in 2008 en vanjaar gekroon as provinsiale kampioene. “Ons is dankbaar vir ons hoofborg Willem Oliphant van GAP Management, wat baie betrokke is by die werwing van nuwe spelers en die bevordering van die sport. Sy hand as direkteur van afrigting is duidelik in die span se spelpatroon te sien.” Die klub bedank ook Adri Geldenhuys, Eric Toring en Eric Sauls vir die afrigting van die eerste span en Rudi Dickson, Keith Grobler en Gabriel Leonard vir hulle afrigtingsvernuf met die o.21 spelers.
