Wat dit nog meer spesiaal maak is dat sy dit geskenk het aan die Kankervereniging van Suid-Afrika (Kansa). Hulle stuur dit aan ’n organisasie wat pruike van

Bumper season at Elephant Park The four South African National Parks (SANParks) in the Frontier Region (Addo Elephant, Camdeboo, Karoo and Mountain Zebra National Parks) recorded good increases in popularity over December. Cumulatively, the four recorded an increase in visitors of 6.4%, up from 42 414 in December 2014 to last month. The largest of the parks, Addo Elephant National Park, noted a

4.4% increase in visitors (28 815). The park also registered an 18.6% increase in the number of activities sold, up from 3 061 to 3 629. The Park’s entrance gate along the N2 just outside Colchester, Camp Matyholweni, continues to attract more visitors owing to its accessibility from PE. Gate entry figures increased by 13% over the corresponding months.

Police clamping down on crime Police officials in the Uitenhage Cluster have arrested a total of 255 suspects during crime prevention operations that were conducted over the past weekend. According to police spokesperson, Lieutenant Gerda Swart, operations were conducted from Friday, 15 January until Monday, 18 January. “A total of 89 traffic fines were issued and arrests made varied from murder, robbery, theft, illegal possession of drugs to assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm. Eight (8) arrests were made for driving under the influence of liquor. “A total of 122 fines were issued for other

liquor related crimes. Two suspects were arrested with suspected stolen goods in their possession. “28 Persons were arrested and detained after illegal drugs were found in their possession,” said Lieutenant Swart, Police in the Uitenhage Cluster will continue to host crime prevention operations and address crime effectively in their area. The South African Police Service appeal to the community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime by providing valuable information that will lead to the arrest of suspects and the recovery of stolen property. The Curt Alchin Memorial Race will be held on Saturday evening at the Victory Raceway on the outskirts of Port Elizabeth. Curt Alchin was a multiple South African champion in oval racing and other facets. He passed away tragically on 28 January 2012 while competing in a V8 American Saloon race. Victory Raceway would like to honour his legacy in hosting a memorial race in remembrance of a motorsport legend. The gates will open at 15:00 and racing starts at

Lifesavers ready for ‘fantastic’ triathlon event “We will be ensuring the safety of entrants. Our qualified lifesavers will be in the water monitoring the competitors.” This is according to Paul Lynch, Vice Chairman of Kings Beach Surf Life Saving Club, who said the XTERRA is a fantastic event. “Hosting this event definitely cements Port Elizabeth as a fantastic coast city for iconic events. “As we are a community based club it is an honour to be associated with XTERRA.” Lynch said they would also make use of boats as an additional safety option.

“It is always great to be part of an event where people are enjoying themselves, while keeping fit and healthy.” South Africa’s leading off road triathlon, the Fedhealth XTERRA, will host its Nelson Mandela Bay debut the weekend of 29 – 31 January at Kings Beach, a Blue Flag Beach. The criteria that need to be met to obtain Blue Flag status include: standards for water quality, safety, environmental education and information, the provision of services and general environmental management criteria. The Blue Flag is an indication of the beach’s high environmental and quality standards.
