Excitement mounts for VW run

ollowing the success of the VW 5km Fun Run in Uitenhage which has seen over 1 000 participants since the inaugural event in 2015, the Volkswagen Athletics Club has decided to take things further by continuing with the 10km version. The EP-recognised race takes place on Saturday and will see runners and enthusiasts starting at the PeoplePavilion, turning to Despatch, running a lap
of the VW Test Track (which is not normally open to the public) and then finishing back at the PeoplePavilion. There is also a 5km Fun Run, which will see participants running from the PeoplePavilion and around the Volkswagen Factory, finishing back at the PeoplePavilion. “At Volkswagen we promote a healthy lifestyle and that is why as a runner myself I endorse this VW 10km
race,” said Thomas Schaefer, Volkswagen Group South Africa Chairman and Managing Director. “This race along with many other sporting events hosted at the PeoplePavilion this year ensures that VWSA’s investment of R30 million into this facility continues to pay off as we are now able to host top-class events at our factories’ doorstep,” concluded Schaefer. Campbells to perform at VW Market Day The VW Market Day will be held at the VW PeoplePavilion on Saturday, hosting various activities and lots of entertainment. It coincides with the annual VW 5km Fun Run & 10km Road Race, of which the start and finish will be at the PeoplePavilion. Thus it is important note that there will be road closures prior to 09:00. One of the highlights of the day is the performance by the Campbells at 11:00. The entertainment programme also includes local
artist and LuisterFM presenter Gerrit de Jager, Chantel Bosch (currently number 1 on the top 30 local Afrikaans artists), Gerhard Pace with his new CD (currently number 2 on the top 30), Karina Pattinson and the 10 year old Ru-an. Other activities of the day inclue free kiddies entertainment like train car rides, face paint, jumping castle and a jungle gym. There will be 150 stalls and a big screen to watch the sport of the day.
