De zogenaamde “Millennials” nemen weldra de paardensport over. Ook ik ben één van die jeugdige mensen die rond de millenium ‘switch’ geboren werd.

De jeugd is de toekomst en staat niet stil.

Jong talent schittert in alle disciplines van de sport alsook de service gerelateerde ondernemingen. De jeugdige ambitie lijkt geen grenzen te hebben.

Het bewijs is zwart op wit. Een nieuwe Belgische Kampioen, Jong talent dat de podia overneemt, heel wat originele start-ups, kortom de jeugd is bezig aan zijn opmars.

Niet onlogisch, tijd dat de generatieswitch zich manifesteert. In dit magazine is de jeugd aan het woord. Jonge talenten, ondernemingen werkten allen samen om deze special edition vorm te geven. Ik hoop dat het u heel wat inspiratie brengt.

Samen met jullie maak ook ik in 2018 een geslaagde evolutie, want ook Equ.Media, Equ.News en Equ.Lifestyle staan voor leuke uitdagingen en veranderingen.

Step by step we do not evolve but also influence our surroundings. The Millennials are slowely taking over the equestrian sports. I myself, am one of those people born around the millennium switch.

The youth is the future. Young talents impress in all disciplines and service related businesses.

Young ambition doesn’t seem to have a break.

The new Belgium Champion is a Millennial. But also the young top horses, ostheopaths, etc.

In short, the youth is busy working its way to the top.

The time has almost come for a generation switch. The content of this special edition magazine was created by young people and entrepeneurs. I wish you much joy reading their experiences, looking at their creations but even more that it might inspire you.

Together we’ll slowely take over 2018 and make it a super year. Because also with Equ. Media, Equ.News and Equ. Lifestyle we are facing exciting challenges and changes.

In gesprek met ...

Nicola Philippaerts Afgelopen september slaagde Nicola Philippaerts erin om zich op de rug van zijn slechts negenjarige hengst Chilli Willi tot kersvers Belgisch kampioen te kronen. De Casall ASK zoon tikte gedurende het hele weekend geen enkele balk uit te lepels en toonde zo aan dat hij naast Grote Prijzen ook kampioenschappen kan winnen. Wij spraken met de 24-jarige ruiter over zijn Belgische titel, zijn kampioenpaard en zijn plannen voor de toekomst.

Last September it was Nicola Philippaerts who rode to the victory at the Belgian Championships on the back of the only nine year old stallion Chilly Willi. The Casall ASK son didn’t touch a fence all weekend and showed the world he can not only win Grand Prix’, but championships as well.

We talked with the 24-year old rider about his Belgian titel, his top horse and his plans for the future..

Belgisch Kampioen Nogmaals proficiat met je Belgische titel. Heb je je specifiek op dit kampioenschap voorbereid?

Specifiek voorbereid zou ik niet zeggen. Natuurlijk blijft een Belgische titel voor elke Belgische ruiter een grote droom, maar ik had aan het begin van mijn seizoen zeker niet durven dromen om ook de titel daadwerkelijk binnen te halen. Bij aanvang van het BK wist ik wel dat Chilli Willi in topvorm was. Dit had hij al aangetoond door de week voor het BK naar de vierde plaats te springen in de vijfsterren Grote Prijs van Lausanne. Het is fijn om te weten dat je paard in topvorm is als je aan zo een kampioenschap begint. Hij heeft zijn goede vorm tijdens het Belgisch Kampioenschap kunnen doortrekken. Ik ben dan ook erg blij dat het ons uiteindelijk gelukt is.

Belgian Champion Once again congratulations with your Belgian titel. Did you specifically prepare for this championship?

I wouldn’t say specifically. Of course winning the Belgian title remains a big dream for many Belgian riders, but at the start of the season I wouldn’t even have hoped to actually win the titel.

When the Belgian Championship started I however knew that Chilli Willi was in great form. He already showed that the weekend before by jumping to the fourth place in the Grand Prix of Lausanne.

Niet echt, een Belgische titel is natuurlijk van onschatbare waarde voor veel ruiters uit ons land. Dat zie je ook aan de vele topcombinaties die bij dit BK aan de start kwamen.

Ik denk ik dat ik ook geluk had met de timing van het BK, want ik schatte mijn kansen niet groot in. Net na het Belgisch Kampioenschap ben ik vijf weken naar Amerika gegaan waardoor ik Chilli Willi de nodige rust kon geven.

Na zo’n prestatie had hij die rust zeker en vast verdiend!

Zou je zeggen dat de Belgische titel tot nu toe één van de hoogtepunten van je carrière is?

Ja, het is zeker en vast een hoogtepunt. Zoals ik als zei is het voor iedere ruiter een eer om de Belgische titel aan zijn palmares te kunnen toevoegen. Ik heb al vele mooie klasseringen gehaald in verschillende Grote Prijzen, maar de Belgische titel is zeker een vast één van mijn mooiste overwinningen tot nu toe.

Even if you didn’t specifically train for this Championship, was the title a goal at the beginning of your season?

A Belgian title of course means a lot to many riders of our country. This also shows in the combinations entering the Belgian Championships: a lot of riders took their best horses to give the best of themselves. I think I was lucky with the timing of this championship as I didn’t think I had any chance. Right after the Belgians Championship I left for the United States for five weeks. This means I could give Chilli Willi a well deserved rest.

Ook je vader werd meermaals Belgisch kampioen en eindigde verschillende keren op het podium. Wat was zijn reactie toen ook jij erin slaagde om de Belgische titel binnen te halen?

Hij was natuurlijk ook erg blij. Mijn vader (Ludo Philippaerts) is verschillende keren Belgisch kampioen geworden maar ik denk dat hij ook erg blij was dat ik met Chilli heb kunnen winnen. Ook voor hem is deze hengst erg speciaal. Hij rijdt hem thuis ook regelmatig. Hij heeft geholpen om alle “knopjes” erop te zetten wat de overwinning extra speciaal maakte. Toch besef ik dat ik nog erg hard zal moeten werken om mijn palmares enigszins vergelijkbaar te maken met dat van mijn vader.

Chilli Willi

Chilli Willi is momenteel één van je toppaarden. Zou je durven zeggen dat hij één van de beste paarden is die je ooit gereden hebt?

Zeker en vast. Mensen vergeten wel eens dat Chilli Willi nog maar negen jaar is. Het is dan ook ongelofelijk wat hij op zijn relatief jongen leeftijd al bereikt heeft. Zo werd hij vierde in de vijfsterren Grote Prijs van Lausanne, sprong hij naar de zesde plaats in de Grand Prix van de Global Champions Tour in Londen, behaalde hij een derde plaats in de Grote Prijs van Miami Beach, … Hij heeft dus op jonge leeftijd al verschillende mooie klasseringen bij elkaar gesprongen en dat is natuurlijk super. Ik besef ook wel dat hij nog jong is, ik wil hem dan ook zeker niet forceren. Daarom

Was winning this title the highlite of your career so far?

It was definitely a highlight. As said earlier, it is a great honor for many Belgian riders to add this victory to your list of victories. I already got many great placings in several Grand Prix’, but the Belgian titel really is one of my most beautiful victories so far.

Your father won the Belgian title several times as well and ended on the podium many times. What was his reaction when you became the Champion of Belgium?

He was very happy aswell. My father (Ludo Philippaerts) won this title a couple of times, but I think he was very happy because I won with Chilli Willi.

Even for him, this stallion is very special.

He rides him at home a lot. He helped me to build him to the horse he is today on what makes this victory extra special.

I do realize I will have to work very hard to come even near the honors of my dad, but it is for sure something I want to try.

Chilli Willy is one of your top horses.

Would you say he is one of the best horses you over rode?

Definitely. People often forget Chilli Willi is only nine years old. It is unbelievable what he already achieved at his age. He became fourth in the Grand Prix of Lausanne, jumped the the sixth place in the Grand Prix of the Global Champions Tour in Londen, got a third place in the Grand Prix of Miami Beach, … He already won so many things at such a young age and of course that’s super. I do realize he is a young horse

probeer ik rustig met hem op te bouwen en hem ook niet te veel te laten springen. Maar een goed paard is hij zeker. Dat zie je ook in de fokkerij: er is enorm veel vraag naar hem en dat is alleen maar een bevestiging van zijn kwaliteiten.

Had je vanaf het eerste moment door dat Chilli Willi een speciaal paard was?

Eerlijk gezegd niet. De eerste keer dat ik hem reed, was hij zeven jaar. Op dat moment is het nog erg moeilijk om te voorspellen hoe een paard zal evolueren en hoe goed hij uiteindelijk zal worden. Op zevenjarige leeftijd was Chilli eigenlijk nog een groot kind. Hij had nog niet alle vermogen en hij moest zich duidelijk nog ontwikkelen. Hij is wel altijd erg voorzichtig geweest. Chilli Willi deed altijd zijn best en sprong ook toen al veel nulrondes. Maar hij heeft zich door de jaren heen positief ontwikkeld en is echt tot een toppaard uitgegroeid.

Wat verwacht je van dit paard in de toekomst?

In de eerste plaats wil ik hem nu zijn rust gunnen. Zoals ik al zei is hij nog erg jong en ik wil hem zeker niet opbranden. Ik wil hem vooral klaar hebben voor het buitenseizoen.

Normaal gezien heb ik een team in de Global Champions League en ik verwacht dus dat ik met hem op mooie locaties zal kunnen springen. Ik hoop dat ik zijn goede vorm van het voorbije seizoen ook naar volgend seizoen zal kunnen doortrekken.

Je zal hem dus niet rijden in de Wereldbeker van Mechelen?

Dat weet ik eerlijk gezegd nog niet. Ik heb ook nog H&M Harley vd Bisschop (v. Dulf vd Bisschop) die in goede vorm is en die ik ook in de Wereldbeker zou kunnen starten. De piste van Mechelen is ook niet echt heel groot, dus ik weet nog niet wat ik ga doen.

That’s why I try to take it slow with him and I don’t want to let him jump too much. But he indeed is a good horse. You also see that in the breeding: a lot of people want to breed with him and that’s only a confirmation of his qualities.

Did you now right from the first moment Chilli Willi was a special horse?

Not really to be honest. The first time I rode him, he was seven years old. At that age it is really hard to predict how a horse will evolve and how good he wil be in the end. At the age of seven, Chilli was actually a big child.

He didn’t have all the scope and it was very clear he needed a lot of work. However he has always been careful. He always tried his best and jumped many clears. But during the years, he really evolved well and became the top horse he is today.

Kerstmis

Je komt uit een echte paardenfamilie en vrijwel de hele familie zal tijdens de kerstjumping van Mechelen aan de start komen. Is er bij jullie dan nog überhaupt tijd om Kerstmis te vieren?

Natuurlijk, dat is iets waar we tijd voor maken. We vieren altijd twee dagen Kerstmis met de hele familie en dan vertrekken we met zijn allen naar Mechelen.

De kerstjumping is voor vrijwel alle Belgische ruiters één van de hoogtepunten van het jaar en dit willen we dan ook voor geen geld van de wereld missen. Ook voor ons is Mechelen een erg belangrijke jumping waar we altijd graag rijden. De jumping van Mechelen is dan ook een jaarlijkse traditie waar we elk jaar opnieuw naar uitkijken.

What do you expect from this horse in the future?

For now I want to give him a little rest to start with. He’s still young and I don’t want to overdo him. I want to prepare him for the outdoor season.

Normally I’m part of a team in the Global Champions League so I’m ready to jump him in great settings. I hope he will keep his great form of this season in the next outdoor season.

You won’t ride him at the World Cup in Mechelen?

I honestly don’t know yet. I have H&M Harley vd Bisschop (f. Dulf vd Bisschop) in great shape as well and I could ride him in the World Cup as well. The arena of Mechelen is not too big, so I don’t know what I will do yet.

Christmas

You’re from a real ‘horse family’ and almost the whole Philippaerts’ family will ride at the Christmas Jumping of Mechelen. Is there even time to celebrate Christmas?

Of course, we make time for that. We always have a two-day-Christmas-party where the whole family is together and then we go to Mechelen. The Christmas jumping is one of the highlights of the year of many Belgian riders and we wouldn’t miss it. For us Mechelen is very important and we like to ride there. This show is a yearly tradition and we’re always looking forward to it.

De 11-jarige sBs-ruin H&M All In zag het eerste levenslicht op 17 maart 2006 in de stallen van Bas Huybregts in Rijsbergen, Nederland.

The 11-year-old sBs-gelding, H&M All In was born on March 17, 2006 at the stables of Bas Huybregts in Rijsbergen, the Netherlands.

De bruine superheld maakte zijn internationale optreden in het zadel van Nicola Philippaerts om in 2014 te verhuizen naar de stallen van de Zweedse springruiter, Peder Fredricson.

Daar ontpopte hij zich tot één van de wedstrijdfenomenen van dit decenium.

Ook paarden hebben soms last met het lichaam. We spraken met paardenosteopaat, Jelle Hoorens. Wat zijn de vijf meest voorkomende klachten bij paarden die osteopatisch behandeld kunnen worden? En hoe kunnen we de symptomen als ruiter herkennen?

Rugpijn is de absolute nummer 1. Er zijn verschillende problemen die kunnen voorkomen, meestal thoracaal en lumbaal. Veel bereden paarden krijgen rugpijn op een bepaald moment in hun carrière. Deze kunnen vele oorzaken hebben. De meest voorkomende oorzaken zijn overbelasting, verkeerde belasting, maar ook omdat paarden atleten zijn, wat gepaard kan gaan met verzuurde spieren, verrekkingen of blokkades. Ruiters kunnen rugpijn herkennen door zelf de rug van het paard te palperen. Zet lichte druk op de paardenrug zo’n 10 cm parallel met de wervelkolom, beginnend net achter het schouderblad thv de schoft tot aan het bekken. Als het paard hier heftig, gestresseerd, of overgevoelig op reageert scheelt er iets.

Problemen met zijdelings buigen. Vele ruiters contacteren me wanneer een paard zich sterk maakt op een zijde of als ze helemaal niet willen buigen. Mijn advies is om de paarden zeker niet te proberen forceren in de gewenste buiging. Als er namelijk een blokkade is, kan het paard gewoonweg niet buigen en kan schade berokkend worden in de mond door het bit. Ik raad aan om zelf eens met een wortel of koekje de neus van het paard de schouder te laten raken. Als het paard hierbij zijn hoofd scheef houdt, of het lukt niet, dan is er een blokkade. Wanneer dit vlot gaat, probeer je zo ver mogelijk richting achterknie te gaan met de neus van het paard. Lenige paarden kunnen zonder problemen de knie raken. Als ze niet veel verder geraken als de schouder, kan er een blokkade zijn in het CTO-gebied ofwel het gebied van hals naar rug.

Er kan ook uitstralingspijn afkomstig uit de rug of bekken zijn ipv een cervicale blokkade.

It’s no difference with horses. We talked with Belgium’s ostheopath Jelle Hoorens about five common issues that can be solved by ostheopathy. And how to recognize them as a rider.

Backpain is the absolute number one. There are many different problems that can cause backpain with a horse. Mostly thoracic and lumbar. Riders that have a steady working program are faced with back time at least once in their career. A regular common cause is the overload, the wrong load but also acidified muscles or muscle blockings. Riders can recognize backpain by touching and pressurizing the back. Put a little bit pressure about 10cm parallel with the backbone, starting just after the scapula until the pelvis. If the horse reacts stressed or over sensative it probably will suffer backpain.

Het paard voelt stijf aan. Meestal acuut, maar kan ook chronisch zijn. Deze klacht kan veel symptomen hebben, maar het komt steeds neer op hetzelfde: verzuring.

Het is erg belangrijk dat de ruiter rekening houdt met het ‘spiermanagement’. Geen overhaaste opwarming en neem ook de tijd om het paard uit te draven en uitstappen na een intensieve work-out. De verzorger of groom zorgt er op zijn beurt voor dat het paard de verkoeling krijgt die nodig is aan de spieren en pezen om letstels te vermijden. Alsook het voermanagement is uiterst belangrijk. Zorg ervoor dat je paard na hevig zweten elektrolyten krijgt om de mineralen en zouten terug voldoende op te kunnen nemen.

Wanneer een paard de reserves uit de spieren moet halen zorgt dit voor verzuring. Alsook vitamine E en magnesium zorgen ervoor dat de spieren zijn reserves kan opbouwen en energie kan blijven leveren.

Afhankelijk van de graad van verzuring kan een osteopaat verlichting bieden door na te gaan of de verzuring niet wordt mede-veroorzaakt door een wervelblokkade.

Verzuring die wordt veroorzaakt door overbelasting kan verholpen worden dmv rust, paardenmassage therapeut, en dry needling.

Problems with indirect bending is actually when a horse is reacting or even protesting on one side. My advice is not to force the horses to bend in that particular direction. There might be a blockage of muscles. Forcing the horse might cause more harm than it does good. The first step is to try to make the horse bend on its own. You can use a sugar or carrot to help you with this. If the horse is keeping his head torgued there is a blockage. Sacro iliacaal (SI) gewrichtspijn leidt vaak tot bekkenproblemen en omgekeerd, aangezien het SIgewricht zich situeert aan de achterkant van het bekken en articuleert met enerzijds het heiligbeen en anderzijds de beenderen van het ilium (deel van heup). Het paard heeft hierbij problemen met galopwissels, impulsverlies, verminderde kracht bij afzet en landing, springt schuin, gaat op voorhand hangen om achterhand te ontlasten, …

Deze klachten kunnen na een of meerdere osteopatische behandelingen verdwijnen.

Soms zal een osteopaat doorverwijzen naar een dierenarts of andere therapeut. Veel gedragsproblemen kunnen opgelost worden door correcte begeleiding en training. De osteopaat zoekt de oorzaak van een bepaalde klacht en zal advies geven over welke therapie het best zal zijn wanneer osteopathie onvoldoende is. Osteopathie is geen ‘quick fix’, het gaat om behandelen door de oorzaak te zoeken ipv symptoombestrijding.

Hierdoor raad ik sterk aan voor professionele ruiters om hun paarden 3-maandelijkse check-ups te laten ondergaan en hobbyruiters elke 6maanden tot jaarlijks.

Focus on the sport and mental health

The Rider Athlete De paardensport evolueert en vraagt steeds meer inspanningen van zowel de paarden als ruiters. Het technisch niveau stijgt jaar na jaar, de prestatiedruk wordt steeds groter en zo ook de atletische inpsanningen.

Elk paard heeft een sterk georganiseerd team en trainingsschema nodig om de prestaties op top niveau te kunnen waarmaken. Vaak wordt echter de ruiter als atleet over het hoofd gezien.

Equestrian sport evolves and puts more and more pressure on both horses and riders. The techinal level increases every year, as are the atletic efforts.

Every horse needs a well organised team and training schedule to be able to perform on the highest level. Often the rider is overlooked as an athlete.

Michelle Dejonghe van het trainingscentrum Maartensland focust zich daarom op de persoonlijke ontwikkeling van de ruiters. “Op een hippe manier moet het ingeburgerd worden dat niet alleen de paarden, maar ook de ruiters over een goede fysieke en mentale conditie moeten beschikken.”

Uit eigen ervaring

“Persoonlijk heb ik enkele jaren geleden ondervonden dat mijn sportieve prestaties blokkeerden door mijn eigen tekortkomingen. Ik bleef hangen op mijn niveau en kon me niet verder ontwikkeling, kortom ik zat vast.” Zo begint Michelle Dejonghe haar relaas.

“Samen met een personal coach ben ik me fysiek gaan ontwikkelen. Ik heb een dagschema opgesteld waardoor ik op korte tijd mijn conditie op peil zou brengen.” Volgens Dejonghe is dit een eerste belangrijke stap om te kunnen blijven presteren. “De fysieke conditie zorgt ervoor dat je zelf ook in staat bent om de vereiste wedstrijdprestaties aan te kunnen.”

“Toch was dit niet alleen de oplossing, er was nood aan meer. Die noodzaak heeft me aangezet om me te onderzoeken in de praktijk van topsport training, iets wat voor elke atleet zijn nut heeft. Of je nu regionaal of internationaal aan de start komt, je moet over een ideale conditie en mentale toestand beschikken.”

Michelle Dejonghe of the training center Maartensland focusses on the personal development of riders. In a trendy way it needs to be established that not only the horses but also the riders need a good physical and mental condition.

From own experience Michell Dejonghe starts her story ( comparing with?) by her own personal experience : ‘A few years ago I discovered that my sporting career was blocked due to my own shortcomings.’ ‘ Together with a personal coach I started to develop physically. I have drawn up a daily schedule to bring up my condition to standard in a short time.’ According to Dejonghe this is the first important step to keep performing.

‘Your physical condition ensures that you’re able to handle the required competition performance.’

“Never forget that sleep is one of the most important physical trainings you can get.

‘Yet, this was not the only solution, there was a need for more. So I started my research in the practice of top sport training, something that is useful for every rider. Whether you ride on regional or international level, every rider needs a good physical and mental condition’.

Only a good condition is still not enough According to Dejonghe, some basic ingredients are needed to have a perfect athletic condition and mentality. Not only your physical but also the mental support of the rider is one of those ingredients: “You can run a marathon, if you can not handle the pressure mentally, you will never cross the finish,” says the personal coach.

As a rider you have to deal with a lot of disturbing factors at the start of a course. The behavior of your horse, your course, the information of your trainer, the performance of your opponents , etc. All these things ensure that you need to be mentally strong. I myself

Er zijn volgens Dejonghe enkele basisingrediënten nodig om over een perfecte atletieke conditie en mentaliteit te beschikken. Niet alleen je fysiek maar ook de mentale ondersteuning van de ruiter is één van die ingrediënten : “Je mag een marathon kunnen lopen, als je mentaal de druk niet aan kan zal je de eindmeet nooit kruisen,” stelt de personal coach. “Je hebt als ruiter heel wat stoorfactoren die in je hoofd omgaan aan de start van een parcours. Het gedrag van je paard, je parcours, de info van je trainer, de tegenstanders hun prestaties, enz. Al deze zaken zorgen ervoor dat je mentaal heel sterk in je schoenen moet staan. Ikzelf heb me daarom ook mentaal laten ondersteunen bij zowel de trainingen als op wedstrijd. Het resultaat is dat ik zelfzeker in het zadel zit.

En dat straal je meteen ook uit als combinatie. Op dat moment hoef je niet langer na te denken over je houding, het publiek, of andere factoren, maar focus je je op de techniciteit van het parcours en het einddoel; de overwinning.”

Een tweede ingrediënt is je voeding. Net als bij paarden is een goed voedingsschema ook van belang voor de mens.

“Je bent wat je eet!“, die uitspraak kennen we allemaal en dat blijkt ook een volstrekte waarheid. “Je voeding is even belangrijk als een goed trainingsschema of mentale conditie. Hoewel alles ook een beetje met elkaar hand in hand gaat. Je kan moeilijk presteren met een volle of lege maag. Eet je bijvoorbeeld een zestal maal per dag, voel je je nooit vol noch leeg.”

Ook Slaap telt als training Een laatste ingrediënt dat je helpt bij een sportieve ontwikkeling als (top)atleet is je slaap. Een training die voor sommigen heel aanlokkelijk in de oren klinkt. “Een studie van de Standford University heeft aangetoond dat een atleet die tijdens het wedstrijdseizoen twee uur per dag extra slaapt, ongeveer vijf procent beter presteert,” verklaart Dejonghe. “Net als een ruiter iets meer caloriëen nodig heeft, moet hij of zij ook meer slaap hebben om hun lichaam toe te staan te kunnen herstellen. De slaap is een herstelperiode, en dat mag je niet te licht opnemen.”

Toen topmodel XC90 in 2014 werd gepresenteerd, kreeg het nieuwe design direct de handen op elkaar van zowel de pers als de consument. Ondanks het strakke lijnenspel en de enorme grille heeft de auto een herkenbaar Volvo-ontwerp. Kijk je door je wimpers, dan lijkt de nieuwe XC60 een verkleinde kopie van zijn grote broer. Maar niets is minder waar. Natuurlijk heeft ook deze auto het familiegezicht op zowel de voor- als de achterzijde, toch zijn de verschillen legio. Het ontwerp van de XC60 is dynamischer en sluit beter aan bij dat van zijn directe concurrenten. Dit is vooral zichtbaar in de oplopende raamlijn op de flanken, de scherpe sneden op de deuren en het meer gedrongen ontwerp van de carrosserie.

De bagageruimte groeide iets en is met een minimuminhoud van 505 liter bijna gelijk aan zijn concurrenten. Hoewel het grote touchscreen wat gewenning vraagt qua bediening, ziet het er erg goed uit en reageert het snel op commando’s. Vooral mensen die regelmatig werken met een tablet vinden hun weg eenvoudig in de vele menu’s.

Maar het gemis van die extra cilinder wordt goed gecompenseerd door hoge vermogens. De XC60 is leverbaar met drie benzinemotoren met respectievelijk 254, 320 en 407 pk. Wil je liever een dieselmotor, dan is er een keuze uit de D4 en de D5. Met 190 pk is de eerste al geen stakker, maar de 235 pk en de 480 Nm trekkracht die de D5 levert, maakt hem een echte allrounder. De lichtste benzinevariant is optioneel met vierwielaandrijving te bestellen, maar alle andere motoriseringen – inclusief de diesels – zijn standaard voorzien van aandrijving op alle wielen. Een soepele en snel-schakelende automaat is standaard op alle uitvoeringen en ook het trekgewicht mag er zijn: De benzinemotor met voorwielaandrijving mag al 2.000 kilogram trekken en de T5 en T6 gaan daar samen met de beide dieselmotoren flink overheen met een maximum aanhangergewicht van 2.400 kg. Topversie T8 mag 2.100 kilogram trekken.

Hoewel de concurrentie moordend is, zal het ons niet verbazen als de Volvo XC60 wederom bovenaan de verkooplijsten van zijn segment zal staan.

The top version we are driving - the T8 Twin Engine - takes a good deal, but with its enormous power and tough appearance it makes even more impression. Of the previous XC60 generation, the Swedish sold an enormous amount, but the newest car in the Volvo family is on an even higher level. Although the competition is killing, it would not surprise us if the Volvo XC60 will once again top the sales lists of its segment.
