ENTRE TERRES ET MER Ces temps de crise sanitaire ont été difficiles pour tout le monde à travers le globe, quel que soit le lieu ou les circonstances socio-économiques. Une chose que nous avons tous apprise : nos foyers sont plus que des simples endroits pour dormir, ils sont le centre de nos familles, le reflet de nos personnalités, un endroit à vivre dans le sens le plus large du terme : un environnement pour travailler et exister, certes, mais aussi pour se ressourcer et renouer, avec nous-mêmes, nos familles, des valeurs délaissées et peut-être même la nature !

Le marché de l’immobilier de luxe s’est révélé extrêmement résistant pendant cette période : non seulement l’immobilier de luxe est considéré comme un investissement alternatif, mais de plus en plus de personnes ont également le souhait de «surclasser» leurs logements et donc la qualité de leur vie : soit en recherchant une résidence principale plus grande, mieux située ou offrant des atouts supplémentaires, ou des résidences secondaires qui sont, littéralement, des havres de paix, surtout pendant des périodes difficiles.

This unprecedented pandemic has been challenging for everyone around the globe, no matter what their location or the social – economic circumstances. Est-ce le moment d’acheter sa résidence secondaire ?

Oui et même le meilleur moment depuis ces 30 dernières années ! Car les prix n’ont pas beaucoup augmenté, il y a un grand choix de propriétés, à des prix raisonnables, avec des vendeurs motivés. Sans oublier que sur le long terme, ce genre d’investissement est un bon placement financier, qui assure en même temps une meilleure qualité de vie.

Une tendance vers le luxe ?

Pour la première fois depuis 10 ans, on voit naître un intérêt pour les propriétés d’exception et très haut de gamme en province. Les grandes familles de Paris, Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon ne recherchant plus de résidences secondaires sur les marchés étrangers, mais redécouvrant leur propre pays.

Ils sont beaucoup plus jeunes qu’auparavant (30/40 ans) et appartiennent à cette génération Erasmus qui a beaucoup bougé et désire aujourd’hui un bien prêt à être habité, moderne, confortable et proche des centres-villes.

Yes and it is even the best time in the last 30 years! Prices have not risen much, there is a large choice of properties, at reasonable prices, with motivated sellers. A trend towards luxury?

For the first time in 10 years, there is an interest in exceptional and very high-end properties in the province. The wealthy families from Paris, Bordeaux, Lille and Lyon are no longer looking for secondary residences in foreign markets, but are rediscovering their own country.

En rentrant, il y a 1 an dans l’histoire du Graffiti ! En effet, sous l’impulsion de Stephane Miquel et de sa femme, cette magnifique bâtisse du XVe siècle est devenue un «musée privé» où le couple prend plaisir à partager avec le public, sa collection personnelle et celle de leur ami avec lequel ce projet a démarré, et à recevoir en résidence des artistes de ce mouvement né en 1974 à New-York.

Acteurs incontournables du courant, le couple partage avec un public émerveillé, ses toiles rares et exclusives, empruntes de couleurs et de gaités, alors que l’univers des artistes était sombre et violent. Un décalage également ressenti devant les toiles réalisées à la bombe aérosol par Rammellzee, Futura 2000 et Dondi White, trois artistes emblématiques du mouvement, désormais accrochées dans cette demeure historique.

Collectionneurs avant d’être marchands, Stephane et Caroline ne cessent de faire vivre ce mouvement, en ouvrant début juillet une galerie à Paris, qui fera dialoguer le graffiti old school avec les œuvres d’artistes contemporains ! Il y a fort à parier que leur enthousiasme emportera là encore, tous les suffrages.

Located in the national park of the Calanques, this former hunting lodge, well known for the role that it played in the history of Marseille and Provence, was rejuvenated, by embarking on the world of Graffiti, a year ago.

Indeed, under the leadership of Stéphane Miquel and his wife, this magnificent 15th-century building has become a ‘private museum’ where the couple enjoy sharing their personal collection with the public, as well as the collection of their friend with whom the project started. They also like to welcome artists from this movement which was born in 1974 in New York.

An essential part of the movement, the couple share with an amazed audience these rare and exclusive paintings, borrowed from colours and happiness, at the time when the universe of artists was dark and violent.

A shift also felt when reflecting on the canvases made by Rammellzee, Futura 2000 and Dondi White, three emblematic artists of the movement, now showcased in this historic house.

Collectors before being art dealers, Stéphane and Caroline are keeping this movement alive, opening a gallery in Paris in early July, which will display old school graffiti alongside the works of contemporary artists!

MEHDI MOTA, L’INDÉPENDANT MEHDI MOTA, THE INDEPENDENT Temple du luxe, la Principauté de Monaco habille les femmes des plus belles pierres. Parmi ces artistes joailliers, Mehdi Mota fait figure d’exception en demeurant indépendant.

Après avoir fait les Beaux-Arts à Nancy, cet artiste «doté d’un sens inné du commerce» travaille naturellement dans l’Art et dans les antiquités avant de s’installer à Monaco.

Nous sommes en 1991, et cet homme d’origine iranienne relève le défi de s’initier au métier de joaillier. Le lieu, la géographie, la lumière l’inspire pour s’y installer. L’avenir lui donnera raison puisqu’il possède aujourd’hui 3 boutiques JASRÉ.

Autodidacte passionné, il apprend avec ferveur les techniques de la joaillerie et lance son activité : «Mon épouse gemmologue aime beaucoup les bijoux et ensemble nous avons commencé par sillonner le monde à la recherche de pierres précieuses et nous en inspirer pour faire nos propres créations».

Fort de ses années aux Beaux-Arts, il crée des bijoux inspirés de l’art floral, de l’art abstrait, du Cubisme... «J’achète d’abord les pierres qui me plaisent et ensuite, seulement, nous élaborons un dessin à partir d’elles».

De cette structure familiale indépendante, il tire une force, celle de la flexibilité. «Les clients qui viennent chez nous recherchent une création particulière, quasi unique.»

Avec des bijoux réalisés en petites séries, la Maison JASRÉ semble avoir gagné son indépendance en même temps que la reconnaissance de ses pairs.

«Pour que la magie opère, il faut que le lieu soit exceptionnel et vierge !» Raison pour laquelle, ces soirées sur mesure, humblement qualifiées de «pique-nique» par le chef, se déroulent dans des sites qui mettent tous les sens en exergue.

D’où vient l’inspiration ?

J’ai eu la chance de naître et de grandir dans un jardin sublime, d’inspiration florentine et mauresque, que mon merveilleux papa entretenait pour une grande famille de Grasse. De là est née ma passion pour les paysages méditerranéens, leurs formes, leurs couleurs, leurs volumes… Je suis inspiré par cette nature sauvage et délicate du bassin méditerranéen qui, comme une maîtresse perpétuelle, me rend généreux et créatif. Grand voyageur, je suis en plus extrêmement curieux des cultures locales qui me nourrissent également.

La touche Jean Mus ?

J’exerce un métier d’art, d’architecture et de botanique, mais également de poésie et de musique… J’ai mis tout cela dans un joli panier provençal, qui me permet depuis des décennies de faire le tour du monde, avec le même enthousiasme et la même passion.

Héritier des grands paysagistes du siècle dernier, je garde en mémoire ce merveilleux savoir-faire qui permet aux jardins de vivre et de prospérer en équilibre avec le paysage, les conditions climatiques, et bien sûr le temps qui passe, mais toujours dans le respect de l’environnement et de la mémoire du site.

La philosophie Jean Mus ?

«La nature au naturel» j’ai écrit cela il y a 30 ans ! C’est l’exploitation maximum des sens, dans le bon sens du terme...

Nos projets, conçus dans le respect des lieux et des écosystèmes, prennent en compte le rêve de nos clients mais également les problématiques économiques et sociales, comme peut l’être la consommation d’eau.

Pour le reste, c’est une histoire de partage et d’émotion, un acte de séduction et de confiance !

Philosophie que mes collaborateurs de l’atelier entretiennent, avec un travail sur mesure, proche de la haute couture.

Un conseil ?

Pour qu’un jardin soit bien «né» il doit être planté avec les bons végétaux, les bons volumes, les bonnes réactions….

Mais pour moi, enfant du pays de Grasse, il doit également être bien «nez» ! Je ne peux imaginer un jardin sans fragrance !

Je suis un paysagiste-parfumeur !

115 Where does the inspiration come from?

I was lucky to be born and grow up in a magnificent garden, inspired by Florence and the Moors, which my wonderful dad maintained for a wealthy family from Grasse. My passion for the Mediterranean landscapes was born from there - their shapes, their colours, their volumes… I am inspired by this wild and delicate nature that the Mediterranean basin offers which makes me generous and creative. As a frequent traveller, I am also extremely curious about local cultures, which also inspires me.

The Jean Mus touch?

I work in the domain of art, architecture and botany, but also of poetry and music…

I put all this in a nice Provençal basket, which has allowed me to travel around the world for decades, with the same enthusiasm and passion. As the heir to the great landscape architects of the last century, I keep in mind the wonderful knowhow that allows gardens to live and prosper in balance with the landscape, the climate, and of course the time that passes. But always whilst respecting the environment and the location’s history.

The Jean Mus philosophy?

“Nature ‘au naturel’ ” I wrote this 30 years ago! It is about exploiting our senses to the maximum, in the right sense of the word...

Our projects, designed with respect for the location and ecosystems, take into account our customers’ dreams but also economic and social issues, such as water consumption. For the rest, it’s about sharing and emotion, an act of seduction and trust! It is a philosophy that my workshop colleagues share, when working on bespoke projects similar to that of haute couture.

Any advice?

For a garden to be properly “born” the right plants must be used, the right volumes, the right reactions…But for me, a local from Grasse, it’s all about the smell! I can’t imagine a garden without a fragrance!
