welcome to ua ua The University of Aveiro (UA), which was officially established on 15th December 1973, is known nationally and internationally for its total commitment to innovation and research, its quality of education and cooperation with the business world. Study and classrooms as well as training facilities are spread throughout the District of Aveiro. In addition to the Santiago Campus in the City of Aveiro itself, the UA has two more satellite campuses in other municipalities in the district. In Águeda, there is the Águeda School of Technology and Management and in
Oliveira de Azeméis, there is the School of Design, Management and Production Technologies . In terms of academic provision for its students, the UA offers a wide range of professional higher technical courses, technical courses, 1st cycle degrees, Masters, Integrated Masters and Doctoral programmes, in a variety of fields: Arts and Design, Social Sciences and Humanities, Science, Engineering and Technology, Economics and Management, and also Health. These courses are spread over 16 departments and 4 Polytechnics. The UA is proud to be located in Aveiro, one of the most enchanting destinations
in the country, with its celebrated quality of life and whose main influence, the Aveiro Ria, affords a unique feature. Moreover, having a saltpan which produces salt by artisanal methods right on campus confirms this uniqueness. The Santiago da Fonte (S) saltpan is located right beside the Santiago campus and can be visited throughout the whole year. The UA is an innovator and a pioneer in the fostering of entrepreneurship, the transfer of knowledge and their subsequent conversation into economic value. Its Departments and Schools, its Research Units and Interface Units carry out work hand in hand with business partners and economic stakeholders, and are on hand to offer specialised services and/or promote scientific and technological competences that the UA has at its disposal.

Among the approximately 14,000 students, more than 80 nationalities are represented on the campuses. The UA is becoming more and more open to the world, annually welcoming foreign students, and providing Portuguese students with new cultural experiences in Aveiro. In addition to the Santiago Campus, in the city of Aveiro, the UA has two more satellites located in Municipalities in the district. The campus of Santiago is home to more than 60 buildings designed by the best national architects. The UA is an authentic open museum of Art and contemporary Portuguese architecture. It is proud to be the only place in the world where it is possible to appreciate the works of two masters awarded the Pritzker (the ‘Nobel prize’ of Architecture): designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira we have the Library building (17) and the water tank (J) and by the architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, the building of the Department of Geosciences (16).
The UA has at its disposal more than 45 halls of residences with more than a thousand beds available, a number of canteens serving daily meals, free health care and libraries on all campuses. It has outstanding facilities for the practice of sports and also stages various cultural activities. The UA offers a space destined to intercultural experience as well as to foreign students, UAI Intercultural UA (building 6). In the same space is CLAIM (Local Support Center for the Integration of Migrants) - with the aim of promoting the reception and integration of the Academy’s international community.
