CHAIRMAN’S REPORT At the March branch committee meeting, it was decided that winners of the branch trophies may either take them home for six months (after engraving) or leave them on display in the trophy cabinet at the clubrooms. Some members enjoy having them at home, while others don’t, so it’s good that there is now a choice. Wearing my “Trophy Custodian’s hat” - I record winners of the branch trophies, so once the six months are up, I will be contacting them for their return. Therefore, if you would like to collect your trophies (after the engraving) please contact me to make arrangements to pick them up. A couple of months ago, Jack Porter (with the support of Dorothy) took on the task of contacting new members to welcome them to the branch, arrange to meet them at noggins, or at an OCBC and generally make them feel at home. Along with Secretary Rod’s friendly welcome, this has been a great success with appreciative feedback being received. Thank you Jack for your valuable contribution to our branch. Our Annual Rally has been and gone and thanks are recorded to Club Captain Katryna and her family for making the day a success. (See page 24 for a report and page 28 for a list of trophy winners.) The OCBC (Old Cars Bikes and Coffee) was another successful event again this month. Anyone can bring their vehicle along (no matter what age and you don’t have to be a member) for others to admire and chat about. Being an outside event and still keeping within the current COVID requirements, it is a pleasure for all who attend. SECRETARY and DELEGATE’S REPORT I, along with Banks Peninsula Branch Delegate, South Island Club Captain and some members of the National committee attended the Executive meeting at National Office on 12th March held by zoom around the country. There were a number of branches unable to log in which was disappointing. It was an interesting exercise and extremely well run by our President Diane Quarrie. Personally I am not in favour of the zoom style of meeting with this number of attendees as I feel it lacks the personal interaction and discussion between the members during breaks, although in these times of covid probably the best option. Logo Voting. The President called all branches individually to state their branch’s preference and the result was quite strongly against the change. As a result of Canterbury’s in house vote, Canterbury voted against. Remit: On Branches being able to change their name to reflect the range of vehicles. (Remit withdrawn) Branches can already use a marketing name subject to the Club’s approval but must not include this in the wording of the Name of the Club which must remain as is. Proposed Notice of Motion Club and Branch Names: Referred back to proposer and seconder. Suggestion to Branches: To suggest a Valuer (to get some consistency.) Canterbury suggests for Insurance requirements. R. Payne NZ Vehicle Valuations 47 Carlyle Street, 03 365 4537 (There is a charge) [See Page 30] Power Point Presentation on On-Line Membership: By the time you read this the joining membership form will probably be up and running on The National Web Site. This will affect our branch to some degree so will be discussed at our next Branch committee meeting. In a Nut Shell it follows these lines. People will still be able to join though the Branch Secretary, but for the younger jet set they will be able to join instantly on line and 7
become a prospective member by paying to National office the required amount. Single $100 Joint plus $20 Junior $50 GST inc. The Branch will then be notified automatically with all the details. The Branch will then arrange the Proposer and Seconder and approve the application though the committee. Following this it will go back to National office who will process it and send out the Welcome letter and membership card. Our Levy will then be sent to us as usual once a month. There cannot be a joining fee involved with this process though National Office and each Branch will need to decide if they wish to continue with this, which would require us to advise and invoice the new member on top of what he has believed to be the cost of joining. National Day: The $300 Subsidy to branches is available again this year. CLUB CAPTAIN’S REPORT Absolutely thrilled as to how the Annual Rally went. It was nice to see everyone happy. Apart from the people I mentioned on the day, a special thanks go out to Gay Goodman for organising the catering and the kitchen, Matthew Hey for his support with setting up the food and making sure the lunch was all going to plan and Graeme Sword helping sort the Field Tests on the day! The Trophies have been taken to the engravers. Andrew Morrison has kindly printed the certificates and I will be taking them to Noggin on the 7th April. If you are unable to attend Noggin, I will post them out to you. Two Wheel Brake Rally I understand went really well with perfect weather. 17 enthusiastic participants, and a brilliant finish location at George Kear (Junior’s) place where they enjoyed lunch on their patio and front lawn. The only problem was a road had been closed on the long route, which did present a challenge for a couple of cars, but all made it to the finish. A very pleasant and social outing. Things to look forward to this month. Sunday 10th April: P Group Rally Neale Cook Saturday 16th April: Scooter Run John Benn/Graham Barnett Saturday 23th April: Autumn Run Graham Evans Monday 25th April: Malvern Run Malcolm McGibbon/Colin Hey Happy and Safe Motoring for the month of April. VETERAN REPORT The key event for March was the Rear Wheel Brake rally held on Sunday 13th March, which attracted 17 enthusiastic participants on what turned out to be a calm, sunny and warm day. One couple (Gilbert and Andrea Dallow) were so enthusiastic they turned up one week early, sending me into a temporary spin when they rang to see why I hadn’t turned up. I was busy in my workshop and immediately thought there was a group waiting for instructions at Cutler Park!
On the correct day, morning tea was efficiently and neatly dispensed by Tony and Leigh Craythorne, served on tables under the clubrooms’ veranda, complete with table-clothes and real tea from a teapot!! The instructions were then handed out, along with some playing cards which were to be the start of a hand of 5 cards (6 for those on the longer route) which would make up a poker hand at the end. There were two routes planned – one a short, fairly direct route of around 20km, and another longer one of about 40km for the faster cars. They were to take everyone out through the Weedons area, then to the home of George and Jorden Kear in West Melton Road. One-third of the cars took the short route (mostly single and twincylinder veterans), and the rest took the longer route, which carried on 10
west as far as the Aylesbury corner before heading back to West Melton. Unfortunately, their route was stymied by a road-works closure, but everyone got back on track one way or another. At the finish, the second lot of playing cards were handed out. Lunch was held on the front patio and lawn, and with a perfect calm and warm day looking out onto the adjacent farm and mountains beyond, it was a very pleasant spot to be. A couple of small prizes were given out for the best poker hands, and also a hard-luck award that went to Gilbert and Andrea. It was supposed to be for turning up on the wrong day, but they did have the misfortune of breaking down on the way home, so it was well-earned. Runner-up would have been Malcolm McGibbon who lost a rear wheel from the Model T Raceabout on the way home. He had to retrieve the wheel from between an electric fence and water-race, which apparently was a shocking experience! Coincidentally it was a rearwheel brake that failed! A special thanks to George and Jorden Kear for allowing us to finish the run at their property, and for opening up the sheds for an inspection. All up, a very good day out! Coming Events for Veterans Anzac Weekend will be a significant and fun weekend, with two events coming up. The first event is the Autumn 11
Run on 23rd which will have a short route which will be entirely suitable for veterans. It has a 10.00am start at Cutler Park and finishes in a domain to the east of the city for a picnic lunch, with a short drive in the afternoon to point out some historical aspects of the area. The entry form was in the March Hub. Then two days later there is the Dutton Garage Malvern Anzac Run on Anzac Day 25th April. This is always a great day out, visiting the war memorials in the Malvern area before finishing for lunch at the Glentunnel community centre. As well as being a fundraiser for the RSA, it is a great opportunity to showcase our vehicles around the outer Selwyn district. Registrations have been received from Dunedin and Ashburton, and the best thing is that there is now no limit on numbers so it won’t be restricted to just veteran vehicles now. All the details were also in the March Hub. Veteran owners will also have the opportunity to visit a couple of private collections and to socialise on the day before the run, organiser Malcolm McGibbon will be contacting those registered about this. For more details see last month’s Hub, or contact Malcolm directly on 027 433 8047, or myself. And before finishing, I must note the passing of one of our stalwart VCC Banks Peninsula branch members, Richard Foster. I’ve only got to know him over the last few years as I’ve become more involved in the veteran scene, but I appreciated him as one of life’s true gentlemen and as someone who was always friendly, especially keen on his motoring, and always willing to help both individually and in the wider community. He and Kate drove the veteran Humber to our last annual veteran rally in October last year, and he joked that he was intending to come via the Haast Pass, but it was raining over there and he didn’t want to put the hood up! I pass on our sincere condolences to Kate and the wider family. Colin Hey Veteran Convenor

Swap Meet Report Barring another COVID mutant popping up, it’s now pretty clear that we’ll be all go with Swap Meet, so we’re beginning our planning based on the assumption that there will be no restrictions on numbers and no requirements to check vaccine passes. The latter alone had the potential to create major hurdles in getting people through the gates without choking up traffic trying to get into Swap Meet. The first meeting of Swap Meet committee will be on Thursday 14th April. The first task will be to set about nominating and confirming the committee. All positions are open as outlined below, and you can nominate any financial member of the branch for any position (or alternatively volunteer your services) with a proposer and seconder. Nominations must be emailed to the Branch Secretary, Rod Thrower, before the meeting in 14th April so positions can be confirmed by that date. If there is more than one nomination for any position an election process will be put in place and advised in the May Hub. One thing I am particularly keen to ensure we have well covered off this year is publicity and public relations for the event. If there is a member out there who has expertise or connections in this field and is interested in helping, please contact me directly. Swap Meet Committee Positions: Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Workforce, Main Displays, Security, Publicity and PR, Sites Coordinator, Camping Coordinator, One-make Club Displays, Parking Coordinator, Food Vendor Coordinator, Facilities Management, Traffic Management. Please send your nominations by email to Branch Secretary, Rod Thrower, email canterbury@vcc.org.nz before the meeting in 14th April. With most Swap Meets in our region having been cancelled for the best part of two years now, we are expecting this year’s one to be fully subscribed and very busy. If you don’t already have a site booked and want one, now is the time to book it – contact Neil Shaskey (see page 45 for contact details). Colin Hey 13

MOTORCYCLE REPORT The quote of the month; Terry Dalton – on the Fish and Chip Run, 26 March, on it being such a great day for motorcycling; “If you are not out riding today, you need to sell your bike...” Past Events. 4 – 5 – 6th March – Jim Toohey Run. To the West Coast; over Lewis Pass, Blackball, Greymouth (2 nights,) home via Arthurs Pass. About 18 bikes and another 4 -5 as back-up/supporters, great weather, very successful. Saturday there was a run to Ross to look inside a shed opposite the Empire Hotel… Most interesting collection!! Thanks to organiser Mike Glenday. Winner of the trophy was Colin Grant. 9th March – Noggin Night. Met at the Armadillo Café, Prebbleton, for a run to Leeston’s Crate and Barrel for a pub meal. Successful night, a dozen or so diners, but more cars went than bikes… Still, a good number who enjoyed the night out. 19th March – Ride Forever Course, Dan Ornsby. 10 people entered this instructional course, 5 for each instructor. Went off very well, very worthwhile day out. This safety course will be promoted again in 12 months or so; to
16
promote safety and skills for motorcycle riders. 26th March – Fish and Chip Run. About 26 bikes started at PMH, by the time of the first garage raid near Lyttleton numbers swelled to 30, then onto Leeston for lunch and the second shed. Great day, perfect for riding, one of the better runs we’ve had for a while in terms of participants and destinations. Future Events. 9th April – Scooter Run. Originally planned for 16 th April, but date changed to take it away from Easter. Organiser is John Benn, with Graham Barnett helping. See elsewhere for more information. 10th April – ‘P’ Group – Annual Run, possibly to Arthurs Pass. A good day is planned, look out elsewhere in The Hub for more details. 13th April – Noggin Night. This will be in The Barn; we have a couple of speakers organised who were on the construction team for the Britten Motorcycles. They’ll give a talk on their experiences. 30th April – Fish and Chip Run. The destination will be the aircraft museum at Ashburton Airfield. The word is this is one of the best displays of its type in the country, so well worthy of the effort to get there. As the destination is on the other side of town, the meeting place will be the BP Service Station, Rolleston, meet 9.30 am for a 9.45 am departure. Plan is to ride there straight to the airfield, then a late(ish) lunch in Ashburton before making your own way back the Christchurch. 11th May – Motorcycle Noggin. There is planned a very interesting destination for this Noggin, meeting at a local watering hole where you’ll learn of the destination… More details in the May Hub. 22nd May – Ruff Run. As the Motorcyclists did last year, the section will run and organise a grass Gymkhana Day for the Branch. See the May Hub for more details. That is about it for April, Cheers, CML

JIM TOOHEY MOTORCYCLE RUN 2022
Friday dawned bright and clear and an eager band of about 16 bikes and riders assembled at Cutler Park for the annual Jim Toohey run. Jan and Royce Baker were there with car to tow the backup trailer and Barry Townshend was Boundary Rider in his car. Tour Leader Ainsworth liberally dispensed helpful information to all and was generally ignored. Route instructions were given out and Stage one was all main road to Culverden on our way to Greymouth via the Lewis Pass. The first casualty loomed up early as the Dominator of Darrell Johnson developed severe incontinence as did the rider when he saw the state of his bike. Wisely he chose to put it on the backup where the Roadholder front forks performed superbly, smoothing out the harsh suspension of the trailer. Culverden appeared without further interruptions and all and sundry retired for coffee, pies etc. or just stood around in the warm sunshine. A short stroll down the road revealed Triumphs 8, Harley, Honda, BMW 2, Suzuki, Norton 2, Puch Twingle, Henderson. Stage 2 was Reefton for lunch, the best ride of the day being the descent of the Rahu Saddle with the combination of sunshine, forest, swinging curves and the slight whiff of two-stroke flatulence in the air confirming Kurt’s earlier passing. Lunch at Reefton was an unrushed affair at various establishments and left Stage 3, a straightforward run to the Recreation Hotel in Greymouth to be completed. Some riders detoured at Ikamatua to visit Blackball and others took the direct route to the Recreation Bar. On arrival a very sociable dinner and evening ensued with no bad behaviour detected. Saturday’s run was a simple affair, a run to Ross to be followed by a lap of lake Kaniere, Kokatahi Pub and back through Stillwater and Blackball to Greymouth. 18
Arrival at Ross revealed Dave Malcolm MIA and his Hinckley Triumph eventually arrived on the trailer with a pneumatic problem with the rear wheel. After a tour of the shed at Ross the crowd retired to the Empire Hotel for lunch and dining entertainment was provided by Dave Malcolm ably assisted by Pete Lambert repairing the punctured back tyre of Dave’s Triumph. Eventual success was followed by Dave doing a ceremonial ride-past in front of the assembled host on the veranda of the Empire. The afternoon was finished by completing the course with some of the more adventurous going to Nelson Creek. Back to the Rec for drinks and dinner with much socialising and a short sharp awards presentation. Top award went to Colin Grant, a bleedin' Blenheim burglar who didn't even have the courtesy to ride a Pukka bike. God knows what the judges were thinking but one can only surmise that his advanced age and general decrepitude had somehow influenced their decision. Let's hope next year he reverts to his usual ride, a bath chair in the Forget-me-not wing of the Blenheim Home for the Indigent and Slightly Confused. Hard luck prize rightly went to Dominator owner Darrell. A special award of a suitably mounted pop rivet from his rear tyre and a star on the Walk of Fame went to Dave Malcolm for his and Pete’s efforts outside the Empire on Saturday. Sunday was a return over Arthurs Pass for a dispersal at Springfield with the two Blenheim interlopers disappearing towards Tophouse escorted by Paul Ainsworth to make sure they didn't do a U turn and bother us again. And that was that. Hats off to Jan and Royce for their services during the weekend, their movie star smiles and personalities really adding to the occasion, and also to Barry Townshend for his company on the run Great weather, great ride, great company. Colin Grant

9-90s Hi to you all Tony and Ngaire Becker organised this trip for us. The day was perfect, we had a nice route and here is the report Tony sent me of his outing: “ With responsibility for March 9-90s event, the challenge of fuel economy became a consideration. Ngaire and I decided to investigate close at hand venues while enjoying morning coffee at one of our favourite country spots, Templeton's Gatehouse Cafe, when inspiration hit - why not here? And so it was! From Cutler Park, around 40 vehicles short-toured local roads via Sherlin Alpacas to "Innovation Park" near Templeton Village, the 100 hectare former Templeton Hospital complex, now Mauger's Agricultural Business Park, its agricultural aspirations are still evolving. The vision of one of our late VCC very early members, Warner Mauger. His dream is already well established in these lovely grounds. When manager, Roger Westerink dropped a hint that Warner's "toys" were hidden there the venue suddenly became a must-do! From the immaculate black 1914 Cadillac Roadster to a couple of sporty home-built Austin 7's, a freshly rebuilt Oldsmobile Oleo chassis on wheels, other motors and a gorgeous little race car made for a great visit. Highlight though, was the original Stanton Special "Crop Duster" stacked with its famous Tiger Moth aircraft engine. Warner's dedicated restoration of the huge hall also impressed. Though still evolving, Maugers have widened and re-laid roading retaining much original infrastructure. Convenor, John Kuipers ran his usual raffle with typical "ribbing banter" and friendly picnic chat on the sunny day.” Thank you Tony and Ngaire for an interesting and enjoyable outing. When Annette and I sell the raffle tickets I am always 20
amazed how many people obviously don't go to church. You wouldn't believe the number of 10, 20 and 50 cent pieces we get. April 13th Dave and Pam Dacombe Meet at the Peg Carpark, Belfast Hotel at 9.55am May 4th The destination is Alan Rennie's place in Amberly. Meet at the Peg Carpark, Belfast Hotel at 9.55am NB This trip is on 4th May, one week earlier than normal. June 8th Geoff Townshend Meet at the Peg Carpark, Belfast Hotel at 9.55am again. Geoff was the lucky one to get first prize in the raffle. The committee and I needed a volunteer for the June run so we decided to combine running the June outing with the first raffle draw. Geoff gracefully accepted his prize. Looking forward to seeing you all again soon. JK and the team PS I am partially deaf so if I ignore you I haven't heard you. Don't be too shy to tap me on my shoulder. Regards, John
Letter of Thanks To the 9-90s group. On behalf of the members of the Wolseley Car Club, I'd like to thank the 9-90s group for their very kind donation from the proceeds of their raffle when visiting our Idlewood facility on 9th February. We have put this money towards installing an artificial grassed area outside of our clubrooms, this work having now been completed. It was a pleasure to have the 9-90s group visit - whilst nowhere the magnitude of Cutler Park, our club facilities are something we're very proud of and enjoy continually improving and sharing with like-minded enthusiasts. Best regards Colin Hey, Chairman Wolseley Car Club Christchurch Branch.

VELOSOLEX OWNERS GROUP (The VOG’s) March 2022 Run Sharing the workload around has been my motto over the past 4 years and what a difference it makes not having the responsibility of working out a fresh route each month for “The Gang”. March was Noel Nevin’s turn and he organised a short Rural Gallop for us in the Lincoln / Greenpark district but golly some of the boys were geographically challenged working out how to get to the starting point at 134 Carters Rd Greenpark. There seemed to be some confusion in which roads to take, - Google maps explained it quite well but alas not all used that facility. Never mind – 15 riders turned up on the day all raring to go. Noel lead us off around River Rd and onto the Little River Rail Trail heading towards Lincoln. A bit of a rough track especially when we took a wrong turning and ended up in an area full of thick gravel, this caused all sorts of problems with our narrow tyres that are not really designed for this type of terrain. Noel soon realized the folly of his ways and about turned to find the correct direction of the track but alas we had suffered some casualties along the way with Pieter Maat and Tony White both getting punctures from the sharpish edges on the stones. Pieter’s tyre made a very impressive bang as a result of the blowout, Gary Thompson thought he had been the victim of a terrorist attack and was quite pleased when he managed to stay upright on the saddle and all was fine. We finally made it to the correct track and headed over Liffey Stream onto some nice smooth tarseal putting the lads in a much more relaxed frame of mind in preparation for the nosh up at the Famous Grouse Hotel at Lincoln where we were looked after very well by the friendly staff. But gosh it was very quiet – hardly a soul around like all hospitality establishments at the moment. Another great natter and grazing time made for an enjoyable day. 22
After lunch it was just a direct route on the roads back to the start finish line on Carters Rd. Thanks Noel for a great day out – once again the weather gods were kind to us. Royce

VCC Canterbury – Annual Rally February 2022 Our ‘penance’ for registering late for this year’s annual rally was the privilege of sharing our reflections on a glorious day enjoying getting out and about seeing the many interesting sights around Canterbury. It’s always a positive start to any VCC event when the pre-start checks go without a hitch and the cars start first crank (1967 Fiat Bambina - coloured purple and 1964 Wolesley 6/110). The current fuel price increases are a lot more sympathetic to the size of the Bambina’s fuel tank than the Wolesley’s. With the weather looking like it might turn a little cold and damp in the afternoon, the necessary blankets and hot drinks were added to the picnic basket. First stop at the club rooms for rally packs, coffee and cake before setting off at your allocated time (or thereabouts for those of us eager to get on our way ) on the medium-length rally. As we've learnt over the years, trust the rally directions, don't rely on the car in front of you and trust your judgement. Of course, the occasional U-turn is all part of the fun. It was heartening to see typical VCC spirit in action when one particularly old Ford had stopped near the exit off the Northern motorway. Several cars stopped to make sure they were okay, and they got going again. The medium route made its way through Spencerville and Brooklands red zoned area and onto Kaiapoi before heading out country, after a couple of wrong turns (not caused by the directions, but the driver not always listening to the navigator ). It was nice to know that ‘Tail-end Charlie’ was following along and available to assist any stragglers or vehicles who encountered issues. Following a brief folly along a gravel road, we found ourselves on the northside of Cust where lunch was at a beautiful private property showcasing a lovely garden area.
26
The venue featured various vehicles ranging from a ‘Mad Max’ style trike (pictured), Kenworth truck, rolling vehicle chassis with a running motor, several restoration projects (vehicles), wild west movie style building frontages and what appeared to be a significant passion for collecting beer cans. No photo or video could ever do justice to the collection in terms of its size or how they were presented. On entry into the collection (very large shed) the look of amazement on people's faces was testament to the sheer volume and scale of the collection. For those who ordered a plaque to commemorate the rally, it was a fitting souvenir. As the wind began to turn southerly and rain threatened, it was time to depart the lunch venue and either return home or continue the rally route. For those who continued with the rally directions, they were well rewarded with some lovely country scenery following tree lined lanes past rural properties. The next day at Cutler Park saw drivers given the opportunity to demonstrate their driving prowess, familiarity with their vehicle (whether it be on 4 wheels or 2) and vehicle agility in several field tests, to much enjoyment of spectators and drivers alike. Huge thanks to the lunch venue hosts and the organisers and marshals of both days for putting on a fabulous annual rally 2022. Club Captain Katryna with overall winners Annette and Tony Meikle

LVVTA Clean Air Standard Press Release Following the information in the last Hub, the Government has now passed into legislation the new ‘Clean Car Standard’ and ‘Clean Car Discount.’ Refer to the LVVTA website www.lvvta.org.nz for full details (Not published on the site when The Hub went to print) Of interest to us is that it excludes all vehicles over 40 years old. The Summary from Tony Johnson, CEO of the LVVTA reads as follows: “In essence, this is a ‘gas guzzler tax’. Such a tax already exists in many other parts of the world, and was always going to arrive here sooner or later. Fortunately, we’ve come through this potentially threatening legislative process very well, and most enthusiasts can continue to enjoy their vehicle hobby without any new impediments. If you learn that the vehicle you want to import or register is outside of the excluded vehicle groups, remember two key things before becoming despondent: • the legislation isn’t saying you can’t register the vehicle, it’s just saying you have to pay a charge; and • if you have to pay the charge, the maximum payable charge for a second-hand vehicle is $2,875 (+GST). It’s absolutely not the end of the old car hobby!” 29
Old Cars Bikes and Coffee (OCBC) Report
An excellent turnout on 20th March with around 70 vehicles turning up, literally all makes, models and modes. Once again great weather made it particularly enjoyable. One person even turned up in a beautiful 1970s Peugeot 504 with a mountain bike on a roof rack – he had been out for an early morning ride at the bike park down the road and called in to see what was going on.
I’m continually impressed by the numbers of cars and bikes that I’ve never seen at previous events before – it’s amazing what people have tucked away in their garages and want to bring out and enjoy on the day. One group used it as a meeting place before heading off together for an impromptu picnic at Tai Tapu. The next OCBC is on 17th April (Easter weekend), so bring out your favourite easter eggs to enjoy with your coffee and friends. Remember, it’s always the 3rd Sunday in the month. Colin Hey

Irishman Creek Rally 4th-6th June 2022 This year’s rally will start from the Canterbury Branch Clubrooms, Cutler Park, McLeans Island Road Saturday 4th at 7.30am. Please be on time as we have a long day ahead of us. To enable us to run such an event within the current covid rules we will not be able to have any gathering indoors with over 200 people. This removes any school halls/barns for lunches and our normal presentation evening. However, since this event is all about motoring, we feel we can carry on without these. Lunches throughout the event will be the responsibly of the entrants. There will be a parking area outside each day for us to gather at. The presentation will be made outdoors in a suitable place as well.
Entry packs will be available for collecting at the Thursday Noggin and at the branch on Friday night. We encourage you all to collect these before the start on Saturday to ease congestion. We will be running numbers to be displayed on entrants cars throughout the event so please have a suitable holder on your vehicle. While back up vehicles are provided all vehicles must be selfsufficient and carry chains for mud or snow and be adequately prepared to cover some distance on back country roads with river crossings. The Irishman Rally is for Vintage and Veteran vehicles only. The winner and runner up will be drawn as per tradition from the entrants participating. All entrants are eligible without exception. The winner and runner up will be joined by a small team to assist with the task of organising the following year’s event.

PARTS SHED REPORT This last Friday Mike Foster and I set out on another recovery expedition to recover a Ford AA light truck from Bernie Rusbatch's yard at Belfast. As we arrived Bernie and his son Nathan were already pulling the truck out of its resting place and getting it ready for us. We backed the trailer in and then Nathan jumped up on the old truck and steered it onto the trailer and Bernie pushed it up on the trailer carefully very very carefully not even damaging the back light fitting that had managed to survive nearly 100 years. It was such a pleasure working with these two professionals who made the loading of the truck so easy. As Mike and I were tying it down on the trailer Mike moved some of the remains of the wooden cab revealing the doors and Mike brushed off the years of dust exposing the signwriting on the door and he exclaimed "That was my uncle". He went on to say his uncle was a market gardener in the area and he could remember riding in the old truck. When he told Bernie about the connection Bernie was delighted as lots of people had been telling him just to scrap it, get rid of it. Well we towed it back to the club where it now sits in the parts compound awaiting inspection by the members who will decide its fate. Special thanks also to Jack Porter who set this recovery operation into gear. Regards to all Wayne Stocks Spare Parts Representative

25, 35, 50, 60 and 70 - YEAR BADGES (To be presented at the Branch Awards’ Dinner Sat 10 September 2022)
If you are eligible for these badges, please contact Leigh Craythorne, telephone 342 9110 or email craythornes@actrix.co.nz for the appropriate form. Applications (for continuous membership) are made on a form available from me, either at a Noggin or give me a telephone call (342 9110) and I will post it to you. (You may choose to email me )
Applicants for a 60 or 70-year badge must have been presented with a 50-year commemorative badge for a 60-year badge and a 60–year commemorative badge for a 70-year award. Please attend to this and contact me as the badges have to be approved by the branch committee before being processed (at least 3 months before the presentation) via National Office and forwarded to us - delay may mean a wait until next year’s Awards’ Dinner for presentation. Members do not have to have been in the same branch for 25, 35, 50, 60, 70 years – it is recognition for continuous membership of the Club.
