Our annual show is less than 3 months away now and arrangements are slowly putting it together. As unusual we will need volunteers on the day to help share the load around and let everybody, club members and committee, some time to enjoy the day. If you have any ideas or know of any businesses that may be interested please let us know.
2010 Shannons Day of the Volkswagen
Shannons Insurance are once again our sponsor and we thank them for their long time and continued support for the day. Again we have a commemorative sticker for 2010 in turquoise and for those that missed out there are a few of the 2009 yellow ones that will be available at the show. The club is also looking at releasing a range of club merchandise at the show. Some club committee members already have some shirts etc and these were purchased as samples to test reaction, costing and availability etc. Keep a look out for the new blue look. The show details are on pages 10 and 11, while the flyer can be found on our website. If you need hard copies of the flyers and/or posters, please let us know and we can arrange them for you.
Membership Renewals

TOODYAY BUSHFIRES - VW Club Donation The Toodyay Fire at the beginning of this year is fading in the memories of many of us who live in the CBD, but to many in Toodyay, the suffering goes on emotionally and financially. For those of you who have been to Toodyay since the fire would have witnessed the devastation and realized how close the town was to obliteration.
Some members also chose to make personal cash donations through the club. Karen Fyfe and Rod McSwain traveled to Toodyay in June to hand a
cheque for $500 to the Shire on behalf of the Volkswagen Club of Western Australia (Inc).
On behalf of all members, the committee offered manpower on a weekend to help clean up a chosen property, but due to the many offers of help, it wasn't required. Donations of food, clothing and goods flooded in, thanks to the generosity of many West Australians. Not withstanding the fact that we are using Toodyay as the base for the 2011 Bug-In (decided 12 months ago), your committee decided to make a donation of $2 per member and add to that the proceeds from the sale of some parts that were donated to the club earlier this year.

The Indian Pacific celebrates 40 years History was made when the Indian Pacific departed Sydney Central Station on the first direct rail journey across the continent, forty years ago. The train was celebrated as a symbol of nationhood, the first solid connection between the colonies of the east and the isolated west coast.
Via West
Over the last 40 years the Indian Pacific has earned its reputation as one of the world‟s greatest train journeys. Each year, tens of thousands of local and international tourists board the Indian Pacific on the journey of a lifetime. Many are so passionate about the iconic train that they repeat the journey time and time again.

What has Car 72 been up to?
The Committee of the VW Club has agreed to support The Kids Cancer Support Group, from ward 3b at Princess Margaret Hospital. (www.kcsg.org.au) through our members Jenni and Aaron Palmer and their Trek Car 72.
The support will be in the form of space inside the ViaWest magazine, inserting fliers with the magazine issue and to asWell quite a lot of work has been sist with ways to help with their fundraising done to Car „72 to make it look the part for our latest Fundraising efforts. effort through the year. Bunbury, Car „72 came home all “Hippied up”.
Athol from Athol Auto Electrics donated his services to have a close look on the wiring system and prepared the way for Aaron to install the musical horns, flashing lights, UHF radio and thankfully a stereo so we don‟t have to sing any more. And what a stereo it is. There are still some minor jobs left be done. A new roof lining is needed, electronic ignition to be fitted, carbys to be rebuilt and still some more fluff…..
Latest Fundraisers: Saturday 7th August 2010 Greenbushes Dance …..Car „72 was invited to Greenbushes to take entry fees and sell raffle tickets at their monthly Dance, with all proceeds going to the Kids Cancer Support Group. It was a step back in time with dances such as the waltz and barn dance, they even got the kids up for the hokey pokey. Jen took the dance floor with Tony (the organizer) to learn the Maxina. (You can‟t knock it till you try it!) At 10.30pm everyone enjoyed supper and made us feel very welcome. Then it was back to the dance floor again until midnight. We raised a fantastic total of $550.
Sunday 15th August 2010 Vintage Motocross….Thanks to Hayes Forsyth and Peter Barker, car „72 was invited to sell cappuccinos and hot chocolate at the huge annual meeting held at Mill Farm in Wandering. We were lucky enough to be able to borrow “Café De Wheels” from Trek
Headquarters and provide the riders and spectators with great coffee. Aaron drove car „72 and Jen drove Cafe De wheels. Both cars travelled down on Saturday afternoon to camp the night and get ready for the morning rush of coffee addicts. The weather was a touch chilly in the morning but warmed up to be a beautiful day. As well as selling coffee we had plenty of admirers of the Kombi. We raised $435 which will be donated to the Kids Cancer Support Group. Thank you to all who supported us especially George our barista tutor. Check out the vintage Motocross website: www.vmxwa.com

What I can say is that new technology in petrol engines may well influence people to switch back from diesel which is still way over priced in this country. With this 2009 World Engine of the Year now an option in the Jetta the over all cost of fueling it with premium would still take a long time to recover the $2500 option for the diesel. 100,000 SCIROCCOS Production celebration at Volkswagen: 100,000 third-generation Sciroccos Since its market launch in 1974, this compact sports coupé has been the most successful Volkswagen in its segment: 795,650 vehicles were sold up to 1992. Currently, the third generation is being manufactured. Today, at the VW Autoeuropa Automóveis Ltda. plant in Portugal, just two years after its market launch, the hundred-thousandth thirdgeneration Scirocco rolled off the production line. "The Scirocco is one of the most important cars that we produce. For myself personally, it was a moving moment", said Andreas Hinrichs, Autoeuropa Plant Manager.

Then the Volkswagen “Dakar” team tested the new Race Touareg 3 in direct comparison with its predecessor in the region around Mahmid, Morocco, before moving on to the Erfoud test centre for two weeks of long runs. The new, attractive aerodynamics of the Race Touareg 3, which improves air flow with more efficient flow directed towards the inter-cooling and water cooling systems, proved its viability. The new flow of cooling air was thoroughly tested around Mahmid where temperatures reach 48 °C in the shade, which equates to the heat that prevails at the “Dakar”.

technology (standard on 147TSI), replacing the current optional 6-speed automatic gearbox. Volkswagen has introduced its latest version of the 7-speed DSG – first seen on the new Transporter, Caravelle and Multivan range – this transmission uses a wet-plate clutch configuration. The DSG gearbox has been groundbreaking for the Volkswagen brand in recent years with various models across the Volkswagen range benefiting from this technology. It combines the comfort levels of a conventional automatic gearbox with the efficiency of a manual box. The DSG is as economical as it is convenient, and opens up a new dimension in gearshift agility. Gearshifts are performed within a few hundredths of a second, without any interruption in traction. More consistently than any other automatic gearbox before it, the DSG is able to combine aspects such as sustainability, sportiness and comfort. No other automatic gearbox operates so efficiently, quickly and precisely. Paired with the 7-speed DSG gearbox, the fuel consumption on the Tiguan 103TDI is reduced to 6.6l/100km - a 16% reduction, the Tiguan 125TSI and Tiguan 147TSI now both return consumption figures of 8.8l/100km – a reduction of 13%. Pricing for the 2011 Model Year Tiguan remains unchanged.
The arrival of 2011 Model Year Tiguan brings an impactful product enhancement making a real difference to the driving experience as well as owners‟ wallets thanks to the introduction of 7speed DSG technology.

Sewage powered VW Beetle A Volkswagen Beetle powered by gas from sewage has taken to the road for the first time in Britain. The Bio-Bug was launched on Thursday by Wessex Water, which is generating methane from human waste at a sewage treatment works near Bristol. The company claims the prototype is able to cover 10,000 miles annually on the waste from 70 households. Mohammed Saddiq, of GENeco, a Wessex Water subsidiary which runs the biogas plant at Avonmouth, said: "Our site has been producing biogas for many years, which we use to generate electricity to power the site and export to the National Grid. With the surplus gas we had available we wanted to put it to good use in a sustainable and efficient way. We decided to power a vehicle on the gas, offering a sustainable alternative to using fossil fuels which we so heavily rely on in the UK. If you were to drive the car you wouldn't know it was powered by biogas as it performs just like any conventional car. It is probably the most sustainable car around."
