Hi Club Members and Readers…… Welcome back from the break. It passed in a flash for me. Last month you might recall me saying that I was going to spend time in the shed on my bus. But, errrr, it didn’t really happen in the end. Time flies by so fast; so an unofficial late New Years Resolution for me is to plan a bit more by getting these presidents spots written in a timely manner for print, organize the posters for up coming events sooner, book venues earlier and spend more time on my Bus project. It’s hard sometimes though with work and life. The Lake Clifton camping trip was a ripper! Loads of new people came along so not just the same smiley faces. The place was buzzing with activity and the cruise line was huge! – In fact from the front you couldn’t see the back! See photos in this edition. After the camp over we visited the Thrombolites from the viewing platform, and many went on to the Vintage Collectors market in Midland – The VWs got plenty of attention in the car display area. The next Collectors Fair is on the day after Munster so another little trip might be on the cards. I am going to use this opportunity as a plug and reminder for the up coming Munster Cruise, which is on the 14th March – see the poster opposite. The club is seeking extra spots for the Classic Car Show at Whiteman Park (3 May) as it is our 60th Anniversary and this year the event doesn’t clash with the popular Fairbridge Festival (10-12 April), so we should have a very good representation. Keep on eye on the events, the year is full of them and the committee is busy putting them together for your participation and enjoyment. Happy New Year to you All. Jamie Barrett Club President

Volksville is the special place to be at the Fairbridge Festival for VW lovers.

Come and join in the fun with the local VW crew and families in this premium camping area. Set among beautiful trees in a prime festival position – close enough to the festival action, but far enough away for a quiet chill out. This area is made possible by Fairbridge Festival organisers and is open to all VW owners who wish to camp. As this is a ‘special interest’ camping area, please do not book online. Contact the festival office on 9246 3311 and use the contact word ”Volksville”. We will organise everything you need.

Page 14 On the front page of this program there is a photo of the VW in circle symbol which has a row of vans in a semi circle at the top, and at the bottom of the symbol vans form the word BUSFEST. 298 vehicles took part in this photo shoot. One of the events: Outside the main arena we have our "Synchro Zone". There will be a static display of Synchros between the Severn Hall and the main show ring. Featured in this zone this year will be the Synchronisation of a standard 2 wheel drive Double Cab Pickup into a 4 wheel drive! Arrive as a 2 wheel drive leave as a 4 wheel drive in the 3 days of Busfest.

Intrepid synchronauts will once again be putting their synchro drive buses through their paces in the main show ring with their synchrobatics on the obstacle course. A photo was taken as were many others for you to see.

BUSFEST, Malvern, England by Sonya and Colin Gambold (Qld) - friends of the Editor On Saturday 6th September, 2014 Colin and I attended this event held at the 3 Counties Show grounds. This event is massive and is run by a company which has 48 officials, and a crew of up to 150 people headed by Simon Holloway.

Many of the crew take a week off to set up the event and come from all over the UK and Europe. The crew camp together in a designated area, to help ensure everything gets done. This is a 3 day event and many people camp in different areas with their clubs and there is a dog free zone. Plots for over 25,000 people and the traders were set out.

384 trade stands and an estimated 8,000 vehicles at the event. The weather was warm and sunny, no rain. Where to start looking? The traders had every item you can imagine. One of the popular items was a wind break consisting of a banner 4 metres long and 1.600 metres high supported by 5 timber poles,

They print a program of 40 A5 pages to give out and is very full of all the things you need to know. You could even win a 2002 T4 2.5TDI with weekend conversion, simply by visiting Just Kampers stand and filling in an entry form.

which are hammered into the ground. The cost $150 each and the one I liked had 4 Split screen kombis printed on it. Looking around the camp sites showed they are well used.

There was live music all the time and musical entertainment at night. 4 large undercover areas were well utilised as were many marques. Plenty of food of all types and also all sorts of drinks. In the Avon Hall there was a display of old transporters, motors and emergency vehicles. There was also a split screen ice cream bus. I watched the synchro stunt show and some impressive vehicles took part. There was also a show and shine on Sunday with many vehicles entered. The winner was Peter Jones who were awarded the most awards winning in 3 categories for his split screen bus. Imagine doing the judging on the thousands of vans.

Pedal car

We would recommend this event as a must see, if you happen to be in the UK in September.

THE WORLDS BIGGEST VW VAN FESTIVAL HELD AT THE MALVERN SHOWGROUND 4th - 6th SEPTEMBER 2015

BUSFEST 2014 – EVENT REPORT This is a report on how things went at BUSFEST 2014 as seen by our very good friends from VW VIBE magazine, who were with us during the whole build up period as well as the event itself. (A full BUSFEST REPORT appeared in the NOVEMBER VW VIBE Magazine.) Simon Holloway & BUSFEST CREW Busfest the World’s largest VW transporter show held at the Malvern showground

BUSFEST 2014 BUILD UP When I arrive at a show on a Friday morning I often wonder the work it took to get a show up and running, when I was offered the chance to go and be part of the setup of Busfest I jumped at it. This show is set up by Simon Holloway & the BUSFEST crew of 65 rising to 150+ over the weekend. I was to find out that many of the crew take a week or two off their normal everyday jobs to get this show of the ground they come from all over the country and some even come from Europe. They all

What started as a small event called VANFEST in 1994 at the Malvern Show ground, UK has grown to become the world’s LARGEST INTERNATIONAL BUSFESTIVAL event for owners, lovers and enthusiasts of Volkswagen Transporter Van’s. Held over a 3 full days in September, with over 8000 vehicles 25000 people attending plus over 300 trade stands the BUSFEST provides absolutely everything and anything you could possibly want to do with VW transporters plus a whole lot more. Our ADVANCE TICKET BOOKING system will be opening EARLY IN JANUARY 2015.

BUSFEST FEES FOR 2015  ADULT Price is £37.00 Per Person.  Children up to & including 16 years FREE Entry  CAMPING UNIT Price is £20 for a 7mx7m plot.  The DAY VISITOR price is £15 per adult.  There will also be an advance DAY VISITOR W/E (3 Day) Pass available at £37 per Person.

Page 19 have designated jobs and they all work as one big team to ensure everything gets done. When I arrived on the Monday all that was there was a massive showground and one massive marquee (the main music tent). The crew all camp together in a designated area where they are well looked after in every aspect with electricity hot showers, clean toilets they are fed watered and offered lolly ices as Julie called them on hot days. The crew start at 8am every morning stop for lunch at 1 and then work on till tea time some even go back to work after tea and work till after dark. Over the following four days I saw the teams pull together and build something to be proud of. I saw marquees being build not just one or two but 20 or 30, fencing teams built whole enclosures, food wagons being placed all over the show ground, 100s of toilets being moved all over the showground, I saw electricians deliver and set up generators to power up whole barns and music venues as well as trade and camping areas, I saw people mark out and number camping plots for over 25000 people and over 300 traders, I watched the Syncro obstacle course being built and tested for safety, I even got to see the whole funfair arrive and set up seriously the list goes on the show ground has its own cleaning company its own recycling centre for the tons of rubbish generated it even has its own fire station and bus stop to take you into town.

BUSFEST 2014 - EVENT Overnight, the showground turned into a show the traders had all arrived and VWs were arriving all the time people were everywhere and the sun was out I felt it is going to be a good weekend, the problem that I faced was what to do first, I had a map and a programme. There was live music in the two outdoor venues all day both have bars and both have plenty of seat-

Favourites with the crowds this weekend were the Brian Collins Band, Counterfeit Abba and the original Brotherhood of man who performed their Eurovision winning song which really got the crowd going there was also a DJ set every night until midnight with some amazing tunes and lightshows. All weekend the kids were catered for with a crèche free kids entertainment a kids disco and even a search for a star Competition.

American Car of the Year title,” said Michael Horn, CEO, Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. “This award highlights our achievements and hard work in the past year, and we are confident that the Golf family will continue to pave the way for the brand in the year ahead.” The coveted 2015 North American Car of the Year award joins the list of a dozen accolades awarded to 2015 Golf models to date. The North American Car and Truck of the Year awards are announced each year at the beginning of media week at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. In 2015, 57 North American Car and Truck of the Year jurors from newspapers, television and radio stations, magazines and websites across the U.S. and Canada weighed in to select the vehicle that most exceeded expectations in all areas, ranging from design and safety to innovation and economy. Three finalists are winnowed down from an expansive list of all-new or significantly redesigned cars introduced in the past year. All ballots are sent directly to and calculated by Deloitte & Touche.

The Cross Coupé GTE is painted in "Grand pacific glacier" blue and combines high efficiency with a powerful design. This is demonstrated in particular by the exterior design that is characterized by precise edges on the long engine hood and a very high front section. The side profile with the A-pillar set a long way to the back and the striking sloping C-pillars are further distinctive features of the design that has a clear focus on sporty exclusiveness, yet also emphasizes the robustness of the large SUV. Large 22-inch alloy wheels with ten highly polished spokes round off the look of the concept car to perfection. The new design language is also found in the interior of the Cross Coupé GTE. For example, the consistent horizontal structure of the instrument panel creates a clearly arranged, spacious and yet also progressive atmosphere. This is also thanks to the seamlessly integrated displays and chrome elements that open up a new dimension of information and operating quality with interactive gesture control.

The seats come in elegant bi-color nappa leather. A dark "Ink Blue" creates a bucket effect for the comfortable sports seats, while the seat centre panels feature perforated leather. What's more, attachments for tablets are incorporated in the headrests of the rear seats. The Volkswagen "Media Control" app enables the tablets to access various infotainment functions via WLAN.

The focus of this further development was on efficiency, reliability and performance. Title defence in blue, blue and white: new design for the next generation of Polo R WRC The most striking change to the Polo R WRC for the 2015 season is its exterior. The white has given way to dark-blue. White and lightblue stripes see the dark-blue front merge into the white rear, which features a towering new rear wing. Also integrated in the new design are Volkswagen’s other partners in the World Rally Championship: Red Bull, lubricant partner Castrol, Volkswagen Financial Services, tyre partner Michelin, chassis and clutch specialist ZF Sachs, and supplier OMP. The Volkswagen engineers have been hard at work implementing many new ideas under the bonnet. The hydraulically activated gearbox, which is operated via a shift paddle on the steering column, represents the biggest innovation.

The entire troop worked in perfect harmony. Everyone was there for each other, everyone knew exactly what he or she had to do, and Volkswagen ultimately deserved to win. Dream debut for the second generation Polo R WRC The 2015 Rally Monte Carlo marked the first competitive outing for the new Polo R WRC, and promptly became a success story. Ogier/Ingrassia and Latvala/Anttila were in the cockpit of the second generation of the World Rally Car from Wolfsburg at the “Monte”, while Mikkelsen/Fløene will remain in the successful predecessor to the new car until the Rally Portugal. The four-wheel drive powerhouse, which now generates an impressive 234 kW, made a perfect debut: the new Polo R WRC finished first and second to outdo even the first outing of the 2013 and 2014 Polo for the World Rally Championship. Historic: Volkswagen joins elite group of rally legends The one-two-three at the 2015 Rally Monte Carlo was Volkswagen’s 23rd victory with the Polo R WRC and the eleventh time the manufacturer has had more than one car on the podium since it joined the series in 2013. Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia climbed onto the top step of the podium for the 25th time at the Rally Monte Carlo, and for the second year in a row at the “Monte”. This sees Ogier pull level with rally leg-

the fifth manufacturer since 1973 to record a “triple” in the “Monte” history books, and thus joins the ranks of such legendary rally manufacturers as Renault-Alpine, Lancia, Audi and Citroën. Typical “Monte” – Tyre gambles and diverse conditions Dry asphalt with – by “Monte” standards – plenty of grip, black ice, snow and slush: the teams at the 2015 Rally Monte Carlo were faced with all of the above. And the conditions changed constantly from one kilometre to the next, making tyre selection particularly tricky. Each crew had to select 30 Michelin competition tyres from the 82 at their disposal – eight

Page 33 hard, 16 soft, 24 soft, ten winter tyres and 24 studded tyres. Seb vs Seb – a thrilling duel, but over far too soon For the first two days of the Rally Monte Carlo, fans were kept on the edge of their seats by the duel raging between the two Sebs. Sébastien Ogier in the Polo R WRC and Sébastien Loeb in a Citroën were embroiled in a thrilling battle for the lead. Ogier had moved into an eight-second lead at the halfway point of the rally when Loeb, making his WRC comeback, lost a huge amount of time and dropped well down the overall standings. And so the prestigious duel was curtailed, just as it was getting really interesting. No longer was the nine-time world champion the number one threat to Sébastien Ogier, but his teammates Jari-Matti Latvala and Andreas Mikkelsen. 500 special stages – an exceptional record The closing Power Stage at the Rally Monte Carlo formed the 500th special stage for the Volkswagen Polo R WRC in the World Rally Championship since its debut at the 2013 “Monte”. Since then, the World Rally Car from Wolfsburg has established itself as the car with the highest win ratio ever in the World Rally Championship. Not only have 85.2 per cent of all possible victories gone to Wolfsburg, but Volkswagen has also won 347 of its 500 special stages.
