Hi Members, Welcome to another bumper edition of the ViaWest magazine. It has been a while since my last report (thanks Ray for stepping in during my absence). Now if you like VW spotting while away on holiday don’t go to Italy because it was challenging to see any there! Except for one lonely kombi I came across parked up in a field in Tuscany. Well I got my VW fix this weekend by attending the 60th Anniversary cruise to Whiteman Park. It was lovely being surrounded and I enjoyed the free sausage sizzle that the club put on, and the various offers that Ray had organized for activities at the park.. A big thank you goes out to the many hands that helped put this together. The event was also a fund raiser for the clubs chosen charity The Douchenne Foundation. I saw some very generous amounts being put into the collection tins. The Annual General Meeting was held last month and as a result of the formalities and hand raising we have had a shuffle on the committee and seen some new faces (see over leaf) join the team. Nice one to these guys and again and another thank you to all the committee members for their efforts last year. The next major event is the Margaret River Weekend. There appears to be a lot of people attending this one. I think that Kim Muste the organiser might be slightly worried that we wont fit on the field this time around! 6th December is “The Day of the Volkswagen” celebrating not just the clubs birthday but that of the Karmann Ghia too. So please if you have a KG get it along and help make it a great display. Club President Jamie Barrett

It boasts an impressive record. The Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross Team and our technicians in Germany worked perfectly together. It is always a very close affair in Global Rallycross, and the races are fiercely-competitive. That makes us all the happier to have won the title. I would obviously also like to say a big thank you to our drivers Scott Speed and Tanner Foust. They have had a great season and pushed each other to outstanding performances. Congratulations, in particular, to Scott on (Continued on page 33)

The Caribbean hosted the penultimate round of the season – one of four challenging double-headers, with two races on one weekend – against the picturesque backdrop of the South Seas. The GRC races are always packed with action and a real draw for spectators – the compact races are followed closely and the subject of much discussion, particularly on social networks. The circuits consist of a combination of asphalt and gravel with spectacular jumps, which often see cars airborne for over 30 metres. FIA World Rally Championship Maiden victory for Mikkelsen and Fløene, Latvala runner-up Andreas Mikkelsen (N) and Ola Fløene (N) won the Rally Spain with Volkswagen to take their place on the illustrious list of winners in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) for the first time. Their first win helped Volkswagen to a remarkable one-two – the seventh of the season. The Norwegians clinched victory in the dying seconds of the rally, on the closing Power Stage. Mikkelsen/Fløene won the final stage, defeating their team-mates Jari-Matti Latvala/ Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) by 3.1 seconds, before benefitting from a rare mistake from fellow Volkswagen duo Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F). The three-time world champions strayed from the racing line and touched a crash barrier, causing such severe damage to
their car that they were forced to retire. After twelve podiums with the Polo R WRC, this was the first appearance on the top step of the rostrum for Mikkelsen and Fløene – in their 64th start at the pinnacle of rally.
