.................... It’s a common norm in society now to talk about motivation and inspirations. Our community is packed with various talents and skills. There are times when you just don’t seem inspired enough. Sometimes you almost feel you lack something. Hence, it’s normal for people to be demotivated and need a push to go. But as motivation is a driving force, it’s crucial that people actually stick on to this and try their maximum in achieving what they are aiming for. Wishing for something may not always be helpful in the process of getting motivated. You need to maintain a strong desire and let it make you move forward. It’s vital that you know what you should do in order to get motivated. You should be very willing and determined for it. Ensuring that you keep your driving force constant and trying to achieve it is the key factor here. Additionally, it also has plenty to do with your emotions and imagination, which means you need to work on these two factors. There are some tips you can follow in order to increase your Motivation.

..........................................

. .. . .

Know your desire. Find out if it’s worth your time and effort. Also, if you really want it. Think. Think about your desires. Think again. Keep on track. Learn more about your subject. Read books and study online about the topic. Also success stories about people who have done wonders. Get inspired! Make it all clear. Keep it written! This will help a lot.

. . ..

Think and visualize again about how you would feel and do after reaching your success point. Think of all the pleasures and benefits you’ll gain by achieving your goal. This should give you the very much needed motivation boost! Believe in yourself. Trust yourself. Be sure that you can do it! Perfect timing may never exist. Stop waiting around and start taking small steps!

Whenever you feel down. Visualize your goal already accomplished. Feel good about what you’re about to do to yourself.

BOBBY

putting fashion forward written by : Maacko

Born in Maldives (1988) Raidha began her career in studying fashion design in Northumbria University UK at AOD in Srilanka. This is where it all started for this gifted, young fashion designer in the Maldives where she mastered the art from level zero to top. ‘My mom use to stitch at home. That’s probably when I first thought of it that way. But the biggest push would be AOD. I am so obliged I decided to join there. Fashion is captured best in AOD!’ Raidha stunned the crowd at the bridal fair the previous years with her absolutely amazing wears. She is well known among ladies for her unique casual and ready to go wears. And currently, one of the top leading designers in the Maldives. For the past five years, she has been combining her passion along with inborn talent to envision master pieces that exude feminist and sensuality with a creative touch that is all her own. Her amazing works shown at various occasions gives great evidence to this. Talking about her major accomplishments, Raidha emphasizes the Colombo fashion week 2011. She was given the chance to represent AOD and her full collection was on casual wears and evening dresses. In addition to this, she also highlights her work done for the ICBT fashion show where she brought in deep flavor to the whole set up by sprucing up gorgeous models in modernized Maldivian traditional wears – which was obviously exhilarating and a

massive eye opener for her. This is no ordinary fashion designer to you. What’s really interesting about Raidha is the fact that she is so passionate and dedicated on her work. Let me try squeeze in few crucial names from her long list of inspirations and role models. Favorite icons till today includes Chanel, zuhir murad, eli saab, naim khan and Versance. Stephane Roland is one of her most preferred designer and the biggest inspiration till today. Raidha tries her level best to keep up to the fashion world and brings out the best in her products by adding a lot of her own innovative and exclusive style. This is absolutely one reason why her customers adore her to bits! Undoubtedly, life of a fashion designer sure will be busy. Deadlines and other obstacles. But her bubbly personality tells us she has a joyful life going strong. However, I didn’t miss out on the opportunity to ask her about how she manages time. She laughed too hard on this one though. ‘Time management? Work? 24/7, it is! ‘ Her first project was at her graduation where she enumerated the beauty of Maldives through her work. Raidha impressed her audience with a well-developed a concept based on underwater and did every little single bit of the whole project by herself. She describes this as one of her best works till today. Work life must be hectic for her. But aren’t we all flabbergasted by how she manages

to take care of self so good? With all the work going on, she still manages to look very elegant. All thanks to her Zumba skills and her clients helping her do her thing so fantastic! Moreover, like every other girl; Raidha has her own personal favorite icon in styling up and looks up to Olivia Palermo as her role model. Fashion designing scene in the Maldives is currently grabbing major attention among youngsters. Our fashion designer for this issue recommends all the talented ones with sincere interest to go for it. She explains further that it’s not only about grasping the art of tailoring and goes on with all the electrifying things a fashion designer would be busy doing. Fashion concept building, technical development, research works, sketch development, fabric and color detailing are all every day words to a fashion designer. It also requires hard work, commitment and dedication. ‘Anyone with real interest should really do this. It keeps on getting better and better.’ She looks for a day where she can have her own shop and brand going strong in the market. And here, all her fans are impatient for such a day too. ‘Go after your dreams, never give up till you succeed. Get inspired by life’ - Raidha Summing up, it was a wonderful time working with Raidha. Thank you for the good vibes. Keep amazing us

WHAT NOT TO WEAR TO YOUR WEDDING! Getting married next year? Already pulling out hair or biting away your nails on the invitee lists, or the special tuxedo? Do you feel like the bride-zilla in you is manifesting within after being constantly bombarded on bridal gown styles and reception themes? While the bride-zilla is inevitable, we can help ease the pressure with tips from industry professionals on bride and groom’s wedding attire.

written by : Angel Shuja

For Her

Your Hijab – We won’t sugar coat this; your hijab must not look like as if the fetus of an alien sprouted from the back of your head. The veil and the drape of the hijab must not be styled to look colossal to your body. “A bridal hijab style must complement your dress. It is about balancing the volume of your hijab to your dress”, says Shamma a hijab stylist and founder of Shumsie’s Bridal Hijabs. Shamma, who recently published her third collection of ready to wear bridal looks, advices, “You must choose a style based on the silhouette of your dress. If the dress is big then the hijab and the veil must have little bit more volume. If the dress is simple and closer to your body then the hijab and veil must be loose and flowy” It is natural to get confused and stressed about what style and color you should go for; consult a professional hijab stylist like Shamma or take a few minutes to compose yourself with a cup of tea to decide on a style.

30 VIBE | issue 5 - 2014 www.vibetrends.com

Get it Designed – It is your special day and your dress must represent this special occasion. However, don’t exhaust your budget on over the top dresses with heavy tiers of ruffles and fur just because you want to stand out; you would not want to look back at your photos years from now and wish it never happened. “Most brides are fixed on an image they search from the internet and expect it to suit them. But it might not flatter her body shape and height. So I always make sure I design a gown that fits her body and her budget” says Naisha a bridal dress designer and owner of The Closet by Naisha. If you wear the hijab, make sure your gown is designed with full sleeves. Wearing those separate stretchable jackets underneath your hijab is unflattering and looks cheap. Those of us who are restricted in time and have a constrained budget tend to choose ready to wear. Avoid snap decisions in such cases, and make sure you try on as many dresses before purchasing one from a bridal salon. Whether you are buying ready to wear or

tailoring one, to achieve the best fit you must be equipped with a brilliant bra. Investing in quality underwear is crucial to look flawless.

Make up – “Don’t use bold and bright eye shadows, lipsticks and blush; like blue, green or purple” says Rizna makeup artist and owner of Leykoka Looks Salon. On your big day you must shine as a sophisticated and elegant bride. Rizna, who recently presented her makeup show advices, “A soft and sultry makeup is always the best choice. Go for natural, earthy and soft shades. If you want to try a glamorous look then a soft smokey eye with lighter lips is always a winner”.

For Him

Best foot forSuit up! ward – Often grooms underestimate the importance of dressing up for their wedding. It’s not only her special day but yours too! As the 21st century groom, you must achieve masculine simplicity through attention to detail. Whether you are wearing a tuxedo or suit, make sure you do not look like you are wearing someone else’s outfit. A well crafted suit must be streamlined to the body. The jacket sleeves must fall up to the hinges of your wrist, any longer and it will ruin the look. Your trousers should not look baggy, avoid too much gather at the break (which is the edge of your trousers) and it must show a quarter of, or an inch of the shoes from behind.

Colors and fabric

– While black is a versatile color for a shoe, brown goes well with navy blue, grey, brown and beige tones. A lace up leather oxford or loafers are styles suitable for a wedding. Steer clear of other colors, especially white.

Groom the Groom

– It is important that you look fresh and presentable as you are about to meet and greet hundreds of different guests throughout the reception. Make sure you take a good shower, trim your beard evenly if you prefer to have a bit of stubble or if you are going for a clean shave then see to it that you don’t get any razor burns, nicks or cuts. Get a facial a week before or moisturize – Bright colored and shiny frilled satin shirts your face for a smooth skin. Cut and trim all your nails and moisturize your hands. Pre-workout SNACKS

If you haven’t eaten in several hours, and want a little something an hour before you exercise, you need some pre-workout snacks. You need to know what you should have and how much as exercising on a full stomach is an injurious idea as a rule. But if your stomach is growling and you are starting to feel a bit enervated because you haven’t had a meal in hours could result in a remorseful workout session too. Ideally, the logic is to make sure you have enough energy without consuming unnecessary calories. Most of us have enough glycogen in our body to effortlessly fuel a good workout session without the need of food. However, it is also very advisable to actually have some pre-workout snacks if you have been too caught up with work for hours; before warming up for your workout. • Fruit smoothie – Make it a point to not have solid food the closer you are to your workout time. A fruit smoothie can do the trick for you. Get yourself a good blend and satisfy yourself before your workout. • Fresh berries with yogurt – Promising you some great power for longer workout sessions and will keep you away from feeling hungry.

• Coconut Water – Definitely a very Maldivian drink! This ensures to satisfy you filling you up and is full of digested carbs as well as electrolytes, such as potassium. • Sliced avocado with lemon – A very high quality workout snack. The healthy fats provides you all the long-burning fuel during your workout and is good for your skin and eyes too.

• Pistachios– Giving you the right amount of protein, pistachios rank high on many lists as they are richer in potassium than most other nuts. Potassium is an electrolyte that you lose through sweat. • Dates – the fibre in dates promises you to your blood sugar level from spiking and stabilizes your energy level.

• Chickpeas – Have quarter-cup of chickpeas and grab yourself some much needed protein and carb before your workout. It’s yummy and doesn’t take too much effort too.

tion. It’s for self-satisfaction and for that wonder feeling when someone’s life can be better and improved through a little service. Helping our fellow man has long been seen as an altruistic behavioral model. But it turns out that more selfish motives—pleasing friends, doing what you want—are more successful causes of effective volunteering. Whatever the motive, volunteering improves the health, happiness, and in some cases, the longevity of volunteers. Children who volunteer are more likely to grow up to be adults who volunteer. Even unwilling children who are forced to volunteer fare better than kids who don’t volunteer. And in a virtuous circle, communities with lots of volunteers are more stable and better places to live, which in turn further boosts volunteerism. On one hand, it’s striking that volunteering does occur. It seems to run against the strong dynamics of self-interest. There is simply nothing in society that says that someone is mandated to help anyone else. It is said that People who volunteer tend to have higher self-esteem, psychological well-being, and happiness. All of these things go up as their feelings of social connectedness goes up, which in reality, it does. It also improves their health and even their longevity.

The benefits of volunteering are linked to a person’s degree of commitment. “It’s clear that more is better, at least up a point, some studies find an inflection point and others don’t. The benefits increase up to the point where a person has volunteered 100 hours during a year.” Consistency is also important. “The more consistently you do it, the better your psychology benefits.

Among teenagers, even at-risk children who volunteer reap big benefits, according to research findings .It helps positive effect on grades, self-concept, and attitudes toward education. Volunteering also led to reduced drug use and huge declines in dropout rates and teen pregnancies. It can work as a slight solution to social issues. Youth volunteering to a higher quality of life as an adult, participating in high school tends to boost participating in adulthood, which is related to enhanced volunteerism. It might be a Good idea to get your children involved in community volunteer programs. It’s the time here in Maldives many children are graduating from 10th standard many parents look for a real job volunteerism can be a good option for this period of time. Most people say they value volunteering because it’s “the right thing to do,” among other altruistic reasons. There are five main reasons people volunteer, Three are “self-focused”:

1.

Understanding: the desire to learn new things and acquire knowledge.

2.

Esteem enhancement: feeling better about yourself and finding greater stability in life.

3.

Personal development: acquiring new skills, testing your capabilities, and stretching yourself. Two are “other-focused”:

4. 5.

Sense of community: making the world, or your piece of it, better. Humanitarian values: serving and helping others, often with a strong religious component.

length of service. People who don’t volunteer often have an idealized view of people who do. They put them up on a pedestal this might actually deter people from volunteering because they feel they don’t measure up. Volunteerism may be a hidden secret to a happy and committed life. It has been to me for past many years I would not hesitate to recommend to another. We have many NGO’s clubs and other organizations and groups looking for volunteers in Atolls, islands and in Male’ city. Why not this new year get involved in something really rewarding.

“The ones that get the higher rates of endorsement are the ‘other focused’ ones, but it’s the ‘self-focused’ ones that predict

Written by : Maacko

Inspired by her dad, the very famous local musician; Mezzo Mohamed Majid, Mira started singing at a very young age. First appeared on the Inter school singing competition in the year 1998. Ever since then, Mira has been constantly getting all the love from her fans, family and friends for her great talent and amazing stage performance. today, she is one of the leading female vocalists in Maldives. An average 21 year old is probably the best to define her. Her everyday routine consists of the very normal, usual things. Eat, sleep and watching TV. Thus, a very down to earth young girl with passion and love towards this industry.

.

What’s a normal day like to you?

Oh well. Eat, sleep, watch TV and sleep again. *shrugs*

.

How do you define music?

Music is passion. Music is life. The one thing I cannot live without. Cure to all my illnesses. The perfect ease. The main source of falling in love for me.

.

What is it being like a female artist in the Maldives? A lot of competition actually. I am not a competitive person. But if I was, I see a lot of competition. Too much talent but not enough help out there to show cast our talents for what it really is. To be honest, the best we can do here is resort music; that’s where we find more opportunities and appreciated crowd. ‘Being a resort musician, I find myself being appreciated more & more with each show.’

.

What do you want to achieve in life and where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

really want is a small family. A loving husband and two beautiful kids. Which is what I really want to achieve and look forward for in the next five years.

.

You’ll always tap your feet to?

Michael Jackson! Well, lame or not – one direction too! And almost any cheesy Indian song with good dance beats which that I can get my hands on! My dad has always been my inspiration. Biggest inspiration, actually. So I’ll always be dancing to his songs for sure. And as far as my taste music goes, I don’t have anything in specific too. ‘Being a musician I believe exploring all genres is the best way to become the best.’

.

How do you keep up with your social life and how do you manage time? I play only a few shows per week. Sometimes it’s hectic depending on the shows and functions in Male’. But my friends and family are always top priority. I always find time for them one way or another.

.

Studying hopefully. Funnily enough, that too in literature. But seriously, I don’t plan on taking things step by step. I plan on going with the flow.

.

Three very important things to you?

MIRA’s Circle – Mom, dad, brother, best friend and boyfriend. My cat, Uska. And I really can’t decide if it’s on my guitar or my memories.

.

Thanks to?

Mom and dad. Mom for the courage and dad for the inspiration. My brother for being annoying and balancing out everything in my life. All my friends and teachers for their endless support. My boyfriend and best friend for holding my hand always and most importantly, my loving fans for standing by me. Keep spreading the good vibes, Mira! Your voice will always be admired. Best wishes to you from team VIBE.

Tell us about that one day you couldn’t help but smile throughout? I’ve a special friend. A very special friend. And every time I see him playing around with his son… It’s just the way he is with him. Makes me smile like an idiot every time! Every single moment I see this. It puts the biggest smile on my face.

.

If you weren’t here doing this interview right now, where would you most likely be at? Probably watching the amazing world of gumball in the arms of my one and only. What were your biggest shows so far? Miss world 2000. I was only seven years back then. However, that was one of the biggest shows to be held in Maldives and it really was something for me! The Eid show this year was pretty amazing too. Followed by Olympians with youth where so many legendary singers performed. It was an honor being the only youth to have the chance of performing with Mr. Hamdhi on stage.

.

Biggest accomplishment?

Hearing my dad say ‘I’m proud of you as a singer.’

.

Future plans and goals?

As high as I can go with music, but what I

EX FACTOR Can you be friends with your Ex? Written by : Riyala

‘Look who’s here!’ whispered Afu cracking a smile. ‘Hello…how’s you?’ Inaz said stopping by the table Afu and her friends were sitting. ‘Good…and you?’ Inaz gestured a thumps up indicating he is good as well. A step behind him was his new girlfriend, tall, slim beautiful. She gave a brief smile to Afu before disappearing inside the restaurant. ‘I can’t imagine how you can just casually greet and talk to your ex and smile at HER!! Its just ridiculous.’ Faree exclaimed

out as soon as they were gone. Faree recently broke up with her boyfriend after dating him for a year and they can’t stand each other, both often criticizing each other’s ways with their mutual friends. Afu laughed and stated how she and Inaz are comfortable around each other since their breakup. ‘True. We dated for 8 years. Things just didn’t work out for us, but we are friends and if she is good for him, why should I care? I am happy in my own life and plus I have some time to concentrate

just on myself, take up that sewing class I always talk about.’ Afu gave a big grin making Zulaikha laugh. Faree just rolled her eyes. ‘Thank God I do not have any exes’ Zulaikha said thoughtfully. Zulaikha married her childhood sweetheart and now they have 2 kids. …………………….......……

RELATIONSHIP Above is a common scenario that we normally see now. The big question being ‘can you and your ex get along?’ ‘Can you be friends with your ex?’

When remaining friends is possible It is always better if you can remain friends despite the differences and experiences you have gone through. You must not forget that there was a reason that brought two people closer among all the others you’ve met. It may be a common factor or a mutual liking. In time you must have grown very close to know each other and care very much. Whatever the fact, it drew you closer and that fact remains a fact. And just because the two of you couldn’t see eye to eye on issues or drifted apart in time, doesn’t mean you have to let go one of the few people who know you the most.

When having nothing to do with each other is the best When you can’t stand each other it is always best to just walk away and never look back. Why risk losing your cool and being stressed over something when you can easily avoid it! There are many such scenarios where this is not just possible, but a must!

1. Co-workers When your ex and you work in the same office, it is better to let go of any grudges and move on. Sometimes things get complicated and everyone in the office gets to see the drama. Why let your colleagues see the nasty side of you? Worse why would you let them be entertained by your private life? If you can’t let it go, then keep to yourself until you calm down or avoid each other altogether.

2. Heartaches Not all breakups are mutual. Sometimes people part with harsh words and unacceptable actions. And if everytime you meet or see your ex, you end up having

46 VIBE | issue 5 - 2014 www.vibetrends.com

your heartbeat race up and blushing hot with rage it is a sign that you need to stay away from each other. As old saying goes ‘we better not say anything towards another, unless we have something good to say’. Words cut deep and the wounds take longer to heal. And they say time is the best healer.

3. Still have feelings If you still have feelings for your ex, it is also best not to have any contact with them. This will lead to unwanted stress and sometimes depression. Take this time to calm your mind and to get to know yourself. Sit and think about your strengths and weaknesses when you are in a relationship. Sometimes unknowingly we snap at our partners and sometimes we don’t make them feel special enough.

4. False hope Sometimes people keep in touch with their exes hoping for something more than just being friends, and that the flame might ignite again. But most times, things do not work out when you give it a second chance. So why do you linger? Let them be happy with another. Go out and get to know other people and find your best match, give it time and things will fall in to place. Wonder how many guys and girls would want to date someone who is sticking to their exes like glue? If they can’t stop talking about how funny their ex is or how it makes them feel, the odds of making the new relationship work are very slim. It can also make your current girlfriend or boyfriend feel insecure. So the million dollars question remains. Can you be friends with your ex? Well, you can. But consider the possibilities of ruining the current relationship and starting life afresh to managing the emotions well. “I wouldn’t mind being friends with my ex, if only my wife doesn’t make it a big deal” Said one of my friends when asked the question. The human skin has pores which connects the oil glands located under the skin. The glands are connected to the pores via follicles – small canals. These glands produce sebum, an oily liquid. The sebum carries dead skin cells through the follicles to the surface of the skin. A small hair grows through the follicle out of the skin. YOU JUST GOT TROLLED?!

Got trolled again? On Facebook? Twitter? Any social media? And upset for life about it? Well, it’s all over everything and time to face the facts. Someone who deliberately upset another by starting an argument or posting unnecessary inflammatory messages on social media is referred to as troll, in internet slang. Over the years, it has gotten so bad that all you see on social media would be a troll. Talking factual, YouTube needed to develop a way for users to moderate their videos comments section and popular science shut downs its comments section entirely due to this reason. Explains how awful it has been in the recent years. According to many researches, trolling enjoyment was very strongly associated with a sadistic personality. It proves that most of the internet trolling were because of overlap with sadism. Which basically states that all these nasty comments and things regarding people are because some enjoy harming others?

62 VIBE | issue 5 - 2014 www.vibetrends.com

The popularity of trolling locally is also beyond imagination. It takes a minute for something to come up on the news or someone to say anything on social media these days. It effects the other person in various ways which sometimes people who find these trolls amusing don’t even realize the impact they’re causing too.

whenever you find yourself reeling over a particularly hateful comment on your everyday websites, take some comfort in knowing you’re just another anonymous pawn in the internet troll’s game

Nonetheless, some researches have shown some very interesting implications on this. As a very normal person, you may find the idea of trolls at an extreme level where you can’t tolerate it. But the interesting bit is, a sadist person is considered to be vicious and very harmful towards the others. Let this be mentally, physically or emotionally. High chances that the internet is just allowing them to blow out their negative energy towards the other person in such a way where they don’t get to be destructive in person. Thus, the majority of these sadists are usually sexual offenders and serial killers globally. Can this be appreciated? ‘So whenever you find yourself reeling over a particularly hateful comment on your everyday websites, take some comfort in knowing you’re just another anonymous pawn in the internet troll’s game.’
