Shampi had started sewing at a young age of 14-15, as she could never find clothes that she liked. So, she started to make her own clothes, according to her style. Since then, she had been sewing clothes for her family and herself. She gained a lot of compliments for her clothes and so she had started to want to develop her sewing to something more. As per an opportunity a friend suggested, Shampi drew her very first designs and applied to take part in the Lakme’ Pro Models Runway 2008. And to her delight, her designs got selected to participate in the actual runway. The first time she had published her designs; she achieved remarkably. From 5 categories, she got Best Designer in 3; Paper Wear, Plastic Wear and Rubber Wear. Moreover, she had also won the Best All Round. This was a great success for a first timer and she was invited to take part in the Runway the next year. So she did. She took part in Le’cute Runway 2009 and we were not surprised to hear that this amazing designer had yet again won Best Designer from 3 categories out of 5; Royal Wear, Future Wear and Traditional Wear. In addition, she had won the Best All Round for the second time.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO DESIGN CLOTHES?

WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE GOALS?

S H A M P I Everything. When I see good-looking people, an attractive color or even beautiful materials. My friends inspire me a lot too, the way they are and the way they act around me. WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE THROUGHOUT YOUR CAREER?

S H A M P I Being a single mom. Having to take of my kid and designing is very tough. I cannot give the time I would like to design. But all my friends and family have been so supportive. They had never said that I couldn’t do it. They had always encouraged me. I wouldn’t be here without them. HOW DID YOU FEEL WHEN YOU WON BEST ALL ROUND THE FIRST TIME YOU ACTUALLY DESIGNED?

S H A M P I I was so happy. I didn’t study fashion designing and when I started I didn’t even know how to how to stitch straight, let alone sewing! But I was so determined and interested in it. I bought a sewing machine and with the help from my grandma and my dhontha I learnt how to sew. It was tough and it was a lot of hard work, so when I actually accomplished what I did, I was extremely happy. And when I won the second time, I was tremendously happy because the show was held in Sri Lanka and even my family was there. WHEN YOU DESIGN, IS THERE SOMETHING YOU ARE ESPECIALLY ATTENTIVE TO?

S H A M P I

There are so many! I dream for the day I see people wearing my clothes on the street. But more importantly, I want the fashion industry in Maldives to grow further and have an annual Fashion Show in which designers all over Maldives can show off their designs. There are lots of creative designers in Maldives and the Fashion Industry in Maldives is something that CAN grow. Like in other countries, the designers in Maldives can also start creating lines for each season and sell them. We don’t work like that and I really wish that we could put an effort for the industry to develop. All the designers could open our own shops and work to raise our own brands. We don’t really get opportunities like this in Maldives, especially women, because we have to struggle. Most of the times, even if we do get a chance, we cannot use it even if we really wanted to and even if we are motivated. I really hope that this would change. HAVE YOU DECLINED A LOT OF OPPORTUNITIES?

S H A M P I Yes I have. After thinking about my family and because I can’t give enough time, I have declined a lot. Mainly because I have other responsibilities that I have to give more priority to. I have to look after my kid and do house work. So even if I wanted to I don’t have the luxury to give enough time. Therefore, when I select my customers, I choose them wisely. WHAT SORT OF DESIGNS DO YOU PREFER?

S H A M P I

S H A M P I

When I make my clothes, I wouldn’t want a single fault in it. I don’t want the dress to disagree with the person who is going to wear it. Whoever it is, I always try to design in a way it looks good with the person’s shape, a design that the wearer would be perfect in.

Floral, feminine, dark, gothic. I guess I lean more on a feminine-gothic. Not edgy, because I personally don’t think edgy suits Maldivians. I even wear femininegothic type of clothes. HOW CAN YOUR POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS CONTACT YOU?

WHAT DOES DESIGNING MEAN TO YOU?

S H A M P I

S H A M P I It’s something that changes the whole look of a person. Rather than bringing out the best in a person, designing brings out the best version of the person.

Instagram; aishathshamhaofficial I honestly don’t usually use social media. Even the instagram page is run by my sister. ANYTHING YOU’D LIKE TO ADD?

ANY WORD OF ADVICE FOR THE DESIGNERS OUT THERE? AS A WOMAN AND AS A DESIGNER?

S H A M P I If you want to do it, don’t wait and not do it. You have to struggle in life to achieve your dreams. You won’t reach the top with the first try. With hard work you can become capable people in this industry.

34

I S S U E

S H A M P I Sewing is completely different from designing. Usually my customers bring some sort of a sample, but I have to bring changes to it because usually my customers wear the veil and I cannot make revealing clothes for them. So the end result will be different from the sample they bring to me. In the end, I the dress will be an incorporation of what the both of us want. Basically, what I’m trying to say is; when somebody brings a picture of a model wearing a dress, it wouldn’t look the same when the person wears it. Because the body shape might not be the same. So think about this when you wear clothes. Think about what will suit you.

RELATIONSHIP

R E L A T I O N S

ONCE UPON A TIME.. By Riala

Every little girl dreams

of growing up to become a princess. They waltz around the room singing “I know you. I walked with you once upon a dream” and believe that every dream they see is a wish their heart makes, and a kiss of true love is going to save them from any curse. Hence they wait and yearn to find that true love. To fall in love, and to live together happily ever after.

WAIT!

Do the ‘prince’s’ want to meet these princesses? Do they want to fall in love and live happily ever after? Or are they even princes, in the first place? Well, what if… unlike little girls, little boys don’t want to grow up to be princes? What if all they want is to loot and destroy castles in clans instead of building them? What if their wish is to find gladiator in suits kind of lady? What if they want to settle with a “Khaleesi” with a dragon instead of a Snow White in an apron? It wasn’t long ago, when the cartoons and storybooks portrayed ladies in skirts baking pies and singing melodies and every man in town line up to win their hand in marriage. And now, we see ladies in skin tight clothing holding swords and shouting orders. Not just that, its portrayed in a way that seem to win all kinds of men’s heart, from the average working men to the warriors alike.

IMPACT ON BELIEF

Humans are wired in a way that we yearn for stories. From a very young age we start to listen to stories. ‘Once upon a time’ is all a parent needs to tell a toddler to grab their attention. The human curiosity is stirred to know what happens next. Psychologists believe the most effective tool to play with people’s perception is through media. And media is all based on a story. And young children are more vulnerable to accept the beliefs portrayed and shared.

HOW DID IT CHANGE?

It all started when Ariel rescued the Prince. One might argue. No. It all started with Wonder Woman. That was the inspiration behind all powerful independent women, as it first showed a woman with strength doesn’t necessarily mean she looks less feminine, but rather more so and sexier.

Maybe it all started with feminist views which gave way to believing women needs to be more empowered and to believe that they have an equal role outside the home as that of men. Anyway, the point is… the image of women has changed. Maybe men are tired of the burden weighting on their shoulders to look to rescue someone. To let go of that weight and be with one who doesn’t need them to save them, but rather take lead and fight alongside could be quite relieving. If we see how the princesses in Disney movies have evolved, it is easier to believe this. Among the first few princesses are Snow White and Arora, both depended their lives on their princes finding them and rescuing them with a true love’s kiss. The recent princesses of Disney like Mulan, Pocahontas and Rapunzel in Tangled portrays bravery and standing up for others and fighting for your rights. They are all independent and strong-willed in character. This has somehow churned the stereotypes to perceive women in a different way. Voila! The heart follows the mind. End of story!

NO. IT’S NOT THE END OF THE STORY YET.

So nowadays most men prefer their women to be more active, independent and determined.

So… ladies, it’s time to stop dreaming of your Prince Charming. If you are, get up! No one’s coming to kiss you. Sorry, but this is not the right era. Too bad the stories and fairytales that you read while you were young are so outdated.

THE REAL COST OF SHORT-TERM, RAPID

WEIGHT LOSS

HEALTH

While everyone seems to be wanting weight loss by Tuesday, this is not a good goal. Rapid weight loss is not healthy. Also, it is almost always followed by a rapid re-gain of the weight – with a bonus. Many now believe that large weight swings are worse for you than being overweight.

ESSENTIAL NUTRIENTS

Your body needs essential amino acids, essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and more. Extreme diets that slash food intake or excessively eliminate certain foods make it very challenging to get the nutrients you need.

METABOLISM

Your body doesn’t know it is on a diet. Your body doesn’t care about you having a six-pack. It thinks there is a famine and it is being starved. Therefore, in the interest of not dying, your body slows down its metabolism to keep you alive.

MUSCLE MASS

When you starve your body, you can quickly lose muscle. Muscle mass is not just for athletes and those who want to get jacked for the beach. Muscle does far more than just give you shape, curves and hardness to your body. Muscle mass is important for anyone over 30 who wants to enjoy vibrant health, a fast metabolism, real-life performance, functional independence and longevity.

Crash diets that focus on short-term weight loss kill your chances of what you really want optimal body composition for life. However, there is way to get what you want

PERFORMANCE

GIVE IT TIME

Lack of proper nutrients and a loss of muscle are two big performance killers. Whether you are an athlete or a busy person trying to get through a long to-do list, you need to be at your best. Going around exhausted is not what you want.

Forget the, “I need to drop 20lbs in 20 days!” or “The wedding is this next Saturday!” approach to weight loss. Who cares if you weight 20lbs less a month from now if you are 10lbs heavier than your starting point in two months? Slow gradual, sustained fat loss trumps rapid weight loss.

SEEK PERMANENT LIFESTYLE CHANGE

The secret to being lean is adopting a “leanness lifestyle”. This involves consistent hard training, increased daily non-exercise physical activity (e.g. taking the stairs, sitting less and standing more, going for walks, etc.) and eating the right amount of the whole, natural foods – the kind you would expect someone lean to eat. The problem is that this lifestyle is the exact opposite to the lifestyle of many people. As a result, they often try to do an overnight lifestyle overhaul and it is just too much for them. A better approach taking one small step at a time towards the leanness lifestyle. Yes, it takes longer, but it is sustainable and that’s the secret. 49

HAIR FACE SKIN

Apart from it being a good-for-yourhair ingredient besides coconut oil, almond oil is also widely used as base or carrier oil by many hair oil manufacturing companies. Pure almond oil is excellent for hair and does wonders to dry and lifeless skin, nourishing it from root to tip. Some of the most noticeable benefits are stated below:

Almond oil stimulates collagen. It is enriched with vitamin E which makes it great for both skin and hair. Those who have oily skin can use 2-3 drops of almond oil and apply it on their skin once a week. For dry skin I would recommend a few drops of almond oil massaged onto the skin 2-3 times a week. Also note that topical application of almond oil on facial skin should not exceed more than thrice a week as it can clog pores and trigger acne.

A blend of rosewater and almond oil is excellent as a skin nourishment. It can be used as a face and body moisturizer as well.

ALMOND OIL IS EXCELLENT FOR TREATING DADRUFF AND HAIR DAMAGE. IT ALSO CHECKS SCALP INFECTIONS AND INFLAMMATION. IT IS ENRICHED WITH VITAMINS E AND A, WHICH ARE GOOD FOR BOTH SKIN AND HAIR HEALTH. IT CAN BE USED TO TREAT ACUTE SKIN INFECTIONS. IT ACTS AS A SKIN NOURISHER, FACILITATING SKIN LIGHTENING AND TAN REMOVAL. ITS TOPICAL APPLICATION CAN PROVE TO BE THE BEST NATURAL REMEDY FOR CHAPPED LIPS, WRINKLES, CRACKED HEELS, DRY FEET AND HANDS. ALMOND OIL CAN ALSO BE USED TO MASSAGE THE BODY AND FACILITATE MUSCLE RELAXATION.

BEAUTY TIP: APPLYING ALMOND OIL ON LASHES RIGHT BEFORE SLEEPING WILL MAKE THEM THICKER, SHINIER AND LONGER.

[ 20 ] TRAVEL MISTAKES TO AVOID IN 2016 BY IJA (THE ISLAND LOGIC)

It is not unusual to make a few silly mistakes when we travel. But these mistakes sometimes lead to wasted money, lost time, and missed opportunities. Many travel writers conveniently write about “things to do”, “where to go” and “what to see”, but it creates more awareness to write about what not to do. So, here are 40 of the most common travel mistakes you should avoid being a victim of these boo-boos. I have many of my fair share of mistakes in this list, but doing them lets you know how to do it right next time and that’s where you correct them and not repeat it again.

56

I S S U E

2016

V I B E T R E N D S . C O M

01

DON’T FORGET TO SET A REALIS TIC TRAVEL BUDGET

Your budget is the sole source on your travel to experience places creatively and authentically; not a restriction. Sticking to a realistic budget will allow you more breathing room for unexpected expenses. Traveling incurs money and you could run out of it in the middle of your vacation if you don’t set a budget for your it.

02

DON’T PICK A WRONG TRAVEL COMPANION If you are not a solo traveler, be mindful on your choice of companionship. Choose someone who shares the same mindset as you. If you are active and energetic, choose someone who is also active and energetic; don’t pick someone who is sluggish and lazy, chasing him to do “this” and “that” will ruin your precious time and ruin your trip or vacation.

03

DON’T PLAN YOUR VACATION WITH AN EXPIRING PA SSPORT

Many travelers may be not fully aware that having an unexpired passport is just not enough to enter some countries. A lot of countries have already opted the rule for passengers to travel on passports that expire in less than six months been denied boarding a flight or getting detained upon arrival in certain countries. I do know people it’s happened to and I am talking about having a passport that is not valid for long enough. So always check how long your passport has to be valid for when traveling.

04

DON’T FORGET TO ENROLL AIRLINE FREQUENT FLYER PROGRAMS A lot of airline companies have developed frequent-flyer programs to encourage customers to travel with them accumulating points (also referred as miles) which are redeemable for air travel, or for increased benefits, such as travel class upgrades, airport lounge access, or priority bookings.

05

DON’T TRAVEL WITHOUT RESEARCHING Traveling abroad need not be difficult if you follow the right steps. If you are traveling to a new country, do a little online research prior your departure to learn about the visa requirements, immunizations, local laws, culture and conditions abroad that may affect your safety and security. The more research you do, the more prepared you are and chances you can enjoy your trip and vacation. Getting deported or turned away at a foreign country will be expensive, time-consuming, and ruin your vacation.

06

DON’T BOOK EVERYTHING ONLINE You can’t argue with a robot and win, so always talk to a human when inquiring about accommodation and transport, etc. Call hotels, request to speak with the sales manager or someone in guest relations to inquire about special offers and deals. If the place is full, there is nothing to negotiate.

07

DON’T BOOK CONNECTING FLIGHTS WITH SHORT TRANSIT TIMES Flight situations are unpredictable. If one flights gets delayed, you might need to rush through a foreign airport to make for your connecting flight, and you might not make it in time. It’s safe to book them with a sufficient buffer in between. Give yourself a couple of hours between flights to allow for any possible “delay” scenario (delayed flight, long immigration lines, distance between the terminals, etc.).

08

DOZN’T FORGET TO DOUBLE CHECK YOUR TRAVEL DOCUMENTS & ITINERARY

Double-check your documents and reservations for everything from hotels, flights, trains, buses, ferries, etc. Always confirm the time and location, and make sure they are scheduled correctly. Bonus: Check if your name is spelled correctly on your flight reservation.

09

DON’T FORGET TO PRINT YOUR TICKET, BOARDING PASS AND ACCOMMODATION VOUCHER

When you purchase airline tickets on the internet, you receive your e-ticket and receipt to your e-mail, and are usually able to produce the e-ticket on your smartphone or mobile devices as well. However, some airlines require passengers to present a hard-copy/ printed ticket at the airport airline counter. If you have done a web checkin, you might also be required to present a print of the boarding pass. Bonus: Keep a snapshot of your ticket, boarding pass and hotel voucher on your phone, in case you misplace the ticket, you will still be able to retrieve it from your phone. If you e-mail them, you might not be able to download them right after you land at your destination until you buy a data plan or connect a wifi network.

10

DON’T FORGET TO TURN OFF INTERNATIONAL ROAMING

Once you get back home from vacation and see your phone bill while you had international roaming turned on, that’s when you realize how costly the service is. So check the roaming rates with your telecom company before you leave on vacation, and if you don’t have time for that, just keep the roaming service turned off to be on the safe side, otherwise be prepared to pay the bill. flight, long immigration lines, distance between the terminals, etc.).

11

DON’T FORGET TO NOTIFY YOUR BANK OF FUTURE FOREIGN TRANSACTIONS If you want to avoid your bank having your debit card or credit card cancelled due to “suspicious activity”, notify the bank in advance of all the countries you will be travelling so they are aware it is you who is using the card. Bonus: Check with your bank for transaction fees on foreign purchases.

57

T R A V E L

12

DON’T FORGET YOUR CHARGERS

14

DON’T OVER PACK

While you are travel, you might want to check your e-mail, instagram a photo, or just a tweet to let your friends and family know that you have arrived, then you find out that your phone battery is running low and cannot find the charger, because you forgot to pack it. Your phone, camera, or laptop comes with a single charger. If you lose it, or forget to pack it, you will need to get a replacement charger anyway. So keep a spare phone charger in your bag until you need it while traveling.

Pack only what you need and definite about its use, not what you think you will use. Buy anything else at your destination. Once fully packed, review everything you have and try to reduce the load a little bit more. You wouldn’t want to end up high baggage fees for accidentally exceeding the allowed weight limit.

13

DON’T FORGET TO CARRY ALL YOUR SIM CARDS IN A SINGLE CONTAINER You could be a frequent flyer to a particular destination or even more, and the moment your flight lands, you’re ready to switch your SIM cards and get connected to the local telecom network of the country you arrived to. Having a mobile safe case will provide you the convenience of storing SIM cards, Micro SD cards and other mobile tools all in one place. you need it while traveling.

58

I S S U E

Bonus: Buy baggage allowance on your return flight (if you have to), not for the flight you leave to your destination to.

15

DON’T SKIP TRAVEL INSURANCE

You can run into inconvenient and terrible situations while travelling. That’s why travel insurance is important and a must, it can cover cancellation fees, delayed departures, personal articles, and emergency medical expenses if your current plan does not cover it outside your country. I recommend World Nomads, their coverage is wonderful and can easily be extended as many times as you’d like, reporting claims is easy, and their website is user-friendly.

1 0

2016

16

DON’T FORGET TO TIGHTEN THE SHAMPOO CAPS

Shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, soap and other toiletries are very handy, until they explode open in-flight, messing up everything inside your bag. I have done this mistake more than once. Contain these items to your cosmetics bag – it will be easier to clean than all your clothes and the interior of your bag/ suitcase, you also need to ensure that it’s in a waterproof casewebsite is userfriendly.

17

DON’T CHANGE MONEY AT THE AIRPORT Many people change money at airports because they need local currency in cash when they arrive at a foreign country. Stop exchanging cash at airports unless it’s necessary, you will get better rates at downtown banks and money changers. flight you leave to your destination to.

V I B E T R E N D S . C O M

18

DON’T FORGET TO CHECK HOW TO GET FROM THE AIRPORT BEFORE YOUR DEPARTURE

You may assume that there will be a Tourist Information desk at the arrival airport, but depending on the size of the airport and how busy the environment is, there may or may not be one. And you don’t want to rely on that. If you don’t find a Tourist Information desk, how will you find the cheaper taxis and the more expensive ones? Of course, there will be public transport, but this requires prior research for you to know where to get off and how to get to your destination from where you got on the bus or train. So check the airport website in advance for transportation options, or make arrangements with your hotel or travel agent for pick up.

19

DON’T FORGET TO DOUBLE CHECK THE NAME OF THE PLACE YOU’RE GOING

This sounds too plain and apparent, but hear me out. When I used to work at SriLankan Airlines, customers who purchased their air tickets and need to book hotels would come to me requesting to book rooms at the Watergate. Well, there is an Amari Watergate and a Grand Watergate, and both of them are located at Petchburi Road and in the district of Pratunam. If you are from the Maldives, you will know better, we have a Gan in Seenu atoll as well as another Gan in Laamu atoll. This is just an example and this type of mistakes are more common than you really think. So check that the place you’re going to is the place you actually want to be going to!

20

DON’T TRUST THE FIRST DIREC TIONS YOU GET FROM A LOCAL

Ask more than one person for directions to the same place. If the person looks unfamiliar like looking left and right, kindly accept their help and look for more help from someone else.

HOW MANY OF THESE MISTAKES HAVE YOU MADE? 59

LAISHA JUNAID The First Maldivian Idol BY: MAAKO We are honored to feature the very first Maldivian Idol, Laisha Junaid on this 10th edition of VIBE. It was a joy interviewing her and we hope our viewers enjoy it too! ‘It was my mom who made me do this. She signed me up for it. I never took it too seriously when she first mentioned it. I was hesitant to go. I complained and didn’t want to show up the first day. I told her I won’t get through. I did it for her the second day. If it wasn’t for her, this would have never happened. Wasn’t expecting to get the golden ticket and I never thought I’d become the first ever Maldivian Idol.’

F E A T U R E Laisha Junaid, 18, born on 26th October is the first ever Maldivian Idol. With a great love for sports, she enjoys playing basketball, watching sports channels and supports Real Madrid and Manchester United Football Club. Besides this, she spends her fair share of time watching National Geographic. Her favorite color is blue, as can be understood by her signature “blue hearts” and the girl seems to love any food with chicken in it. Revealing the biggest secret, she admits that she tries to guard up her anxiety by throwing in some extra self-confidence every now and then.

HOW DID YOU FIND YOURSELF ADAPTING TO THE WHOLE CHANGE?

I was always into singing. I don’t know how it started. But most of my uncles and family members had a musical background. Maybe it was that. The fact that they all seemed so enthusiastic about music probably drove me to it. Later on, I needed to find a way to express out myself in a better way. Music turned out to be the answer to that. Whatever I am feeling, singing made it easier for me express myself better. It changes a gloomy day into a better one.

‘I have always been a very cheerful kid. Growing up, I’ve always been a studious but yet a happy kid. I enjoy games too. Basketball to be precise. I was actually doing very well in both studies and basketball.’

WHAT IS SINGING TO YOAU? HOW DID IT START?

HOW IS MALDIVIAN IDOL LIFE CHANGING?

I was always into singing. I don’t know how it started. But most of my uncles and family members had a musical background. Maybe it was that. The fact that they all seemed so enthusiastic about music probably drove me to it. Later on, I needed to find a way to express out myself in a better way. Music turned out to be the answer to that. Whatever I am feeling, singing made it easier for me express myself better. It changes a gloomy day into a better one.

I think it should be something very life changing for all of us, every Maldivian citizen for the fact that this franchise had reached the Maldives. And well to me, I seldom thought that I would continue singing or do this in such a way like I am now. My ambition in becoming a doctor aside, I’ve always enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. I’ve always been on it. I’ve never given up on my passion for singing. But the alteration now is that I see it differently. I am focused on working for the unreachable. I have never been trained for this. But Maldivian Idol has changed me into this person who is a lot more fervent about singing. It is life changing mostly because my perspective for music has changed. I am learning about the real deal. It changed my illumination on music and it’s something I will pursue for the rest of my life. On the other hand, it’s different now knowing that people know me too. It’s electrifying and a thrill! Taking selfies and getting to meet a lot people. Wonderful people.

‘I have always been a very cheerful kid. Growing up, I’ve always been a studious but yet a happy kid. I enjoy games too. Basketball to be precise. I was actually doing very well in both studies and basketball.’ PERSONAL FAVORITE PERFORMANCE?

“Kahchah elhi bingaa”

First few shows were so much fun. This competition was never too serious back then. But it only started to get serious from top 5. The toughest throughout the competition was getting “Dhivehi Bin” right. It was a lot of practice. ‘TRYING MAKEUP FOR THE FIRST TIME AND GETTING USED TO IT WAS QUITE UNCOMFORTABLE AT FIRST. BUT NOW, I THINK I AM ALRIGHT AT MAKING MYSELF LOOK PRESENTABLE EVEN THOUGH IT TAKES A LOT OF MAKEUP AND WHATNOT! GUESS THAT WAS SOMETHING HUGE FOR A GIRL LIKE ME.’

WHAT WERE THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENTS TO YOU THROUGHOUT THE SHOW? Of course it is a massive change! And this made me leave behind my old self and what I used to be. Despite how much I miss that person who I was before Maldivian Idol happened, I would never regret this. I am still very young and I have a lot more to carry on with. But maybe things could’ve been different if I never auditioned. I am not complaining, not an inch. Just that I do too wonder at times. I like being this me as well. HOW CHALLENGING WAS MALDIVIAN IDOL TO YOU? I was mentally exhausted for a while. Top 6 and my mock exams came up together. So it was me focusing on both studies and Maldivian idol. Sleepless nights and stressful days. I used to think about how I’d make it through and what I got myself into. It was a struggle balancing both at once but I constantly kept reminding myself that I made the decision by choice. Without hard work, there’s nothing to gain. I was able to overcome that. I am confident that no matter how challenging the rest can be, I’ll get through with effort and work.

FAVORITE ARTISTS AND INSPIRATIONS? I have so many of them! I listen to a lot of genres. Guns and Roses? That’s my dad’s favorite. So I have a special place for them as well. I grew up listening to a bit of metal too and that’s probably an influence from my uncles. They were all metal heads. I never liked jazz before but I absolutely love jazz music now. Used to be very much into pop music. But that has changed. Honestly, there’s no one I look up to. It keeps fluctuating always. But, I consider Theyra sir a huge inspiration. As a vocalist, as a human being, as a father, as a friend and as everything. He has it all! He has got the whole package and it’s not only singing in him! He is the perfect person to look up to. At the same time, I love listening to Unoosha ma’am too. Among the female artists here, I think she is my favorite.

‘I don’ t give up that easily. I will never give up. I will never stop trying. I will die trying for what I want.’ 67
