ROBERT LOBETTA IS CREATIVE VISIONARY OF SEBASTIAN PROFESSIONAL
Robert Lobetta has been appointed Creative Visionary of Sebastian Professional, a brand of Coty Professional Beauty. In his new role, Lobetta will oversee the brand’s creative vision and be responsible for seeking out and mentoring young hairdressing talents to collaborate with the brand. Lobetta was originally sought out in the mid 1980’s by the brand’s founders, John & Geri Cusenza. He was with the brand as Creative Director. Lobetta has dedicated over 20 years of his career to Sebastian Professional. Speaking about the renewed partnership, Lobetta said, “I may have left the building, but my heart never left Sebastian. I am genuinely thrilled to be collaborating again with this legendary brand. My main motivation for this return is to help craft a new creative vision for the brand and to develop young talent that will carry the creative torch for this great brand into the future.” Lobetta will closely partner with the Sebastian’s Artistic Director, Shay Dempsey, who continues to lead Sebastian Professional’s overall hair direction and education programme.
SHISEIDO LAUNCHES DIGITAL MIRROR
Shiseido threw the doors of its renovated Shiseido Ginza Six store, Japan. Its new counter features a Digital Counseling Mirror, which is equipped with a touch-panel system and allows a Beauty Consultant (BC) to offer personalized, in-depth counseling. Apart from reflecting the face, the mirror’s surface has touch-screen activation that has various data such as product information, application instructions, and skin check results. The consumers can check their counseling data at home. Shiseido will proceed upgrading its counseling counters around the world.
MISTY, THE FACE OF ESTÉE LAUDER
Estée Lauder has announced Misty Copeland, principal ballerina at American Ballet Theatre, as the new global spokesmodel for the brand’s Modern Muse fragrance. Misty will front the new Modern Muse fragrance campaign across digital, TV, in-store and print, debuting August 2017. “I am so honored to represent Estée Lauder Modern Muse,” said Misty. “My two passions are dance and giving back, and I love passing on knowledge to the next generation. I also have a strong connection to the scents I wear when I perform. The Modern Muse campaign is the perfect way to see another side of my story.” The Modern Muse campaign includes extensive storytelling around the theme, “What inspires you?” to personalise the Modern Muse concept to Misty, and engage women in conversation across digital and social platforms using the hashtag #BeAnInspiration. Misty is featured in the campaign teaching and inspiring young ballerinas and talking about the importance of connecting with the next generation.

GARNIER PARTNERS WITH UNICEF
Garnier USA, in partnership with its global counterparts in France and the U.K., has announced its commitment to support UNICEF’s work helping children in emergencies through a global financial donation. Eugene Souleiman, Wella Professionals Global Creative Director of Care & Styling, shares expert tips on backstage styling. CHIC WITH A TWIST For the Elleryland show, overly ladylike grooming was the last thing Eugene was aiming for. Although the hair should look chic, he also wanted it to be masculine. He says, “Blow drying with EIMI Perfect Setting created some guts in the roots of the hair. It helped us to manipulate the hair and get it going in the direction we wanted it to go. I combed it through and then did a little bit of back combing to support the insides of the hairstyle. Just a light touch on the backcombing so that the hair stayed back.”
1980S UNDONE For Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, Eugene’s mood board was an eclectic one. From 1980s pop to the Edwardians, his inspirations came from far and wide, creating an unstructured prettiness that worked perfectly with the label’s edgily romantic designs. He explains,“I pulled the hair back quite tautly and then just rolled it up on itself. Nothing was done with a comb. Once I’d rolled the hair, I slid hair grips inside the roll. I didn’t use hair pins, as they wouldn’t give the tension needed.”

UNISEX SINGULARITY Treating each model as an individual, Eugene created a line-up of singular, non-conformist looks for designer Jeremy Scott’s show. He says, “We wanted to create lots of individual looks that were a bit off – you know, love it or hate it type hair. There were so many different textures of hair to play with, so I channelled Jim Morrison’s hydrated tight disco curls, and then did Elvis-meets-Liberace hair, and then whipped up hippy vibes-meets-Vegas glamour.”
SHAPE-SHIFTERS Eugene played with volume and restriction to sculpt the hair into asymmetric silhouettes at Acne Studios AW17 collection. His imagination was sparked by an image of hand puppets, made by the turn-of-the-century artist Paul Klee for his young son. Elaborating about this almost 3D styling, Eugene said, “We created a bobbed feeling to the hair, tucking it into clothing and then pulling it into beautiful shapes, restricting it in some places, but not in others. We pushed all the cuticles down and really stretched the hair to make it like a sheet of glass on the top.”
