Poetry Corner Keen amateur poet Jenna Woodford, from Norfolk, loves writing about wildlife and especially enjoys the challenge of writing haiku; distilling an idea into just one breath. COMMON GARDEN SNAIL Common garden snail Ruining cabbages again. Leaving moondust trails Sparkling after rain. Dull brown shell Not meant to be seen. Though its elegant swirl Is striped with gold and green. Hiding in the dark Cloaked in fright. Curiosity draws eyes To investigate the light.

THE RESTING SEASON Burnt-out orange leaves Oak branches bare. Gentle green Pines scent winter air. A PLANT IN HAIKU Petal Eccentric leaf, draws The sun for beauty’s sake. A flag, for some, a gift. Leaf Batteries, coiled Inside a solar panel. Bonding sky to earth.
