Engineering for Kids: Amazing Race STEM Camp

111 years ago airplanes had not even made their first flight, yet today we can fly to the other side of the world in 12 hours! It is thanks to advances in technology that we are able to explore so much of the world. Over the five days, teams will work together to see who is able to travel the farthest around the world. This trek around the world will require students to design their very own boat, plane, and even a rocket!

Engineering for Kids: Robo Battles STEM Camp

Robo Battles curriculum is designed to introduce students to the world of not only building, but also programming basic robots. The challenge facing robotics engineers is that the robot knows only what is written into the program and the design of the robot must also be capable of performing the task at hand. In this unit, students will experience both the designing and programming roles of being a robotics engineer. The students will explore different ways in which a robot could be utilized to engage in various battle challenges in a less competitive environment. Lessons include, tug of war, sumo bots, tanks and more. Instructor: Engineering for Kids

Engineering for Kids: Robo Games

A robot is a device that is designed and programmed to perform a task either autonomously or with human input. Robots typically come in two forms: those resembling humans or role-specific robots, such as NASA space probes and Mars Rovers. Robots are generally used to perform either dangerous or monotonous tasks. The challenge facing robotics engineers is that the robot knows only what is written into the program. The design of the robot must also be capable of performing the task at hand. In this unit, students will experience both the designing and programming roles of being a robotics engineer. Robothink: Building Bots to Rumble

Welcome to our Robotics Camp! Do you think you can build the best battle robot? In this week-long program, campers will have the chance to build and customize their very own robots using DC and servo motors, switches, LEDs, IR sensors, and wired and wireless controllers. Each day, campers will build two different robots and have the opportunity to test them out in a variety of fun robot games and battles. After we tackle these basic robotic components, we’ll dive into creating a self-driving bot and learn how to code our robots in Scratch. We’ll then challenge the young engineers to write the code to get their bots through multiple challenges all while keeping if fun! With a focus on hands-on learning and problem-solving, this camp is perfect for kids who are interested in robotics and engineering. Get ready for an action-packed week full of robot building and battling in this camp and may the best bot win! Instructor: RoboThink Staff.

We’ll be building 2 robots/rides each day while teaching campers about gears, axles, switches, dc and servo motors, LEDs, IR sensors, mainboards, wired and wireless controllers and more. Some ‘rides’ will be completed by one camper while others will require a team effort where all the campers come together to make the ‘ride’ extra thrilling! With all of our robotics camps, we’ll be encouraging the amusement park designers to customize and improve upon their original designs (along with some help from our master engineers). Junior Lifeguard Program

American Red Cross Junior Lifeguarding is designed to guide youth to the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course by building a foundation of knowledge, attitudes and skills for future lifeguards. Participants are not required to master or perfectly execute skills. They should learn techniques and build stamina during this program.

AQUATICS

Junior Lifeguard Camps offer young people the opportunity to gain valuable lifesaving and aquatic skills. Junior Lifeguards (JGs) are between the ages of 11-14. The students are also taught basic water rescue skills such as how to react in an emergency, throw a rope to help a distressed swimmer, and perform rescue tube and boogie board rescues. Throughout the session, drills and activities are regularly rotated to help the JGs practice their skills and continually improve.

Junior Lifeguard Camps are an important part of a child’s life and are a great way to teach kid’s important swimming and water safety skills that they can use for the rest of their lives.

Registration begins April 3 and closes June 4 (Session 1) and July 16 (Session 2) or until full.

* Must have completed the 5th Grade.

** Thursday only at Franklin
