All programming has an on the surface reasoning. Childcare provides a safe place for youth to be while the parent works, Y&G teaches teens how democracy works, and Resident Camp takes kids up to the mountains to spend a week doing fun activities they can never do at home. What makes YMCA programming so special is that we do this and so much more. We will discuss how we can intentionally focus on implementing character building into our programming.

This workshop educates participants on best practices for engaging with the LGBTQ+, gender non-conforming, and gender-questioning youth. Topics include: asking/using preferred pronouns, how to respectfully navigate discussions around gender identity, the impact of creating a safe and inclusive environment. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a deeper understanding of the challenges facing LGBTQ+, gender non-conforming, and gender questioning youth, and the skills needed to support them in a meaningful and effective way.

Learning Outcomes: Participants will learn best practices for engaging with LGBTQ+, gender nonconforming, and/or gender questioning youth.
