Hey Suns! The weather is getting colder so make sure you keep yourself warm and don't get sick! Thank you for all your hard work these past months and for taking the initiative to get involved! Also, thank you to everyone who paid the membership fee and filled out the membership application. :)) The Key Club membership fee could still be paid so please contact me for more information and remember that you need to be dues-paid in order to receive all the benefits we have to offer!! Please support our fundraisers. We are raising money for the Pediatric Trauma Program which is one of the Key Club preferred charities. The proceeds from these fundraisers are going towards reducing the number of children who are killed/injured by trauma. We are now coming towards the final quarter of the term. Let's continue working hard and end off the term strong! Please remember that you are important and you need to take care of your mental health! Good luck to all the seniors who are stressing over/submitted college apps! You are all amazing and I love you! <3 Suncerely,

Vicky Vu

November 22nd was when the WHOA November Social commenced, hosted by yours truly along with amazing people from Oxford, Timmy Bui and Kenny Le along with Vicky Vu, Nicholas Dinh, and Malinda Huynh from Western. We started the social off with some autumn crafts consisting of turkey and maple leaf origami. Later on after we broke into breakout rooms to play some Among Us and a Minecraft virtual escape room. My guests had a blast as they were killing and being framed by everyone in Among Us.

6

The Minecraft escape room was quite interesting since one person carried us in the last part of the escape room. Finally after the activities we announced love box messages and got quite a lot with most of them being super hilarious. I personally had a great time at the social and got to meet some people Oxford that were new to Key Club. This was definitely the greatest social I’ve done so far and I hope to make more like these in the future with other schools. Kevin Nguyen Spirit Coordinator ’20-’21

From November 23rd through November 27th, Western Key Club held a Thanksgiving Service Week, mainly for a great opportunity to complete service hours throughout the week of Thanksgiving break. Key Club students were given quick and easy tasks to complete in order to gain hours. Personally, I enjoy these type of service events because not only are they enjoyable, but they take almost no effort, meaning anyone can do it, and in the end it’s such a great benefit.

For Monday, the day was called inviting the Guests, making it a fun and easy clean-up day. We had to record, or take pictures of our cleaning, (whatever are it is) and there was no max hours for this event. Coming up for Tuesday, Preheating the Oven was a day of searching. We had to visit Ecosia.org, which is a searching site that plants trees as you search. We decided to give 0.5 hrs for every 45 searches. In total, I completed 90 searches throughout the whole day. Quite an easy task to complete.

The following day was named Setting up the Table. For Wednesday, it was more of an exercise day. Charity Miles has been such an amazing service event, so we decided to use it once more for this week. We either had the choice of downloading the app, or using Atlas, to run/walk/hike. Depending on the time being spend on, will be the time that’s going for the service hours. Second to last comes Thursday, named Thanksgiving Day. As said, Thursday was Thanksgiving Day. For this day, we had to show off our day by simply sharing a picture. I decided to show a picture of our final food once prepared because that’s what took the longest. Finally, Friday was named Loving the Leftovers. For this day, we had to finish our week by recycling all recyclables, and showing off a picture of how much oneself recycled. I surprisingly didn’t have much to recycle. Final thoughts, this was definitely a fun opportunity to gain some service hours during our break from school. It was fun, and in the end it kept me busy for a few minutes. I hope to continue to participate on these events for future service hours. Danna Ramirez Publicist ‘20-’21

On November 21 from 3:30-4:30PM, members from the Division 30 South Key Clubs joined together for the November DCM! This DCM was Keysgiving themed. The DCM began with the Pledge of Allegiance and the Key Club Pledge. After that, we received division updates including: past events, new events, PTP goals update, and the service hours goals update. When updates were finished, we moved onto recognition including: member, Kiwanis member, officer, and the shining clubs of the month. This month Western Key Club was recognized as the 4th shining club of the month! We are extremely proud and grateful for the recognition of our hard work. After the DCM session ended, we began the service project! Members in the division wrote cards to two different organizations we could choose from. I made Thanksgiving cards with some fall designs. After I completed my cards, I mailed them to the specified address that was provided. Overall, the November DCM: Keysgiving was enjoyable. I had a nice time spending my Saturday with the members in D30S and liked making the cards!

Japanese Paper Pop Up Fans was an event held throughout the month of November with the collaboration between KC and JPN club here at Western. This collaboration called for the creation of Pop Up Fans which are quite popular in Japanese cultures. As a way to celebrate and recognize Japanese tradition, Western KC paired up with the cultural club to bring an exiting and fun service project with a splash of creativity. This event led to wonderful designs and fans of all shapes and sizes which truly did Japanese culture right by showcasing all of its beauty. This project was fun and simple by having tutorials online to help the volunteer in making the fan. At first I found it slightly difficult but after the first one I was able to do it naturally. I was able to customize the fan to my liking by using markers, stickers, and other decorations to help add to the beauty of the fan. It looked wonderful on my desk and I’m proud to say it was a mission accomplished. I recommend these collaborations be held often as key club though a service club is also a club that involves inclusiveness. It involves helping others in different ways and forms. By introducing and working closely with other clubs, it helps bring a sense of unity among those in that community. Nicholas Dinh Vice President ‘20-’21

Thanksgiving e on Thursday, November 26 this 2020 year! I remember that day being really cold at night, but then again, all the nights have been cold for a while.

On Thanksgiving there is usually turkey but I’ve noticed that no one in my family really cares for it. Ham is what most look forward to, and the tamales. DifferI enjoy Thanksgiving because I get ent ethnic food is brought in deto get together with a lot of rela- pending on your family! I really tives and just eat good food. I see enjoy that aspect of Thanksgivthem a lot because they live near- ing too. by but I never really take the time to actually spend time with them. The thankfulness that is shared For this year I didn’t go out but my during that week around mom went to my aunt’s house Thanksgiving has a really warm and had some food there. I don’t and nice feeling to it. It’s joyful really mind not having a to see what people post about “Thanksgiving” though, it’s im(what they are thankful for). portant that others are safe Even though its nice to spend time with family and take notice for what you are thankful for, I still think its crucial to understand the history of Thanksgiving. I know its hard to read upon those topics and some may want to believe the history of what we’ve been taught at a young age but that isn’t how it is, unfortunately. I hope many understand the history of Thanksgiving too! Jennifer Perez Historian ‘20-’21

As we all know, not all of us aren’t able to properly celebrate Thanksgiving due to the boundaries of the pandemic currently going on, but we do not fail when it comes to improvisation within our families and friends. All in all, 2020 has been a tough year for everyone with being stuck in quarantine, especially me as I had a very severe problem with my mentality as I was going through a deep depression. Luckily, there were others who helped me out and I’m just grateful to have friends who truly care about my problems and how they are willing to help me out. I also want to be thankful for my family being there for me and how they always help me look for ways to keep me happy and toughen up. I think that even in quarantine, I think this has been the toughest year I have went through with a lot of issues I have recently gone through, but the best times I have had with people was when I just got to be with them, like in person and that honestly makes me happy the most. As Christmas is about to come up in a few weeks, many others have asked me what I would want for a Christmas gift and to be quite honest, I don’t exactly have any thought on what kind of item I want. As cheesy as this is about to sound like, I feel like meeting with my friends after such a long time in quarantine and hanging out with them would be the gift for me. So yeah. I’m grateful AND thankful for people who helped me throughout my entire life. Douglas Lam Historian ‘20-’21

BOARD MEMBER Featuring our Spirit Coordinator,

KEVIN NGUYEN

1. How has your journey been as a spirit coordinator? My Journey so far as a spirit coordinator has been pretty good. I've been able to connect with other clubs to set up socials for our schools and create friendships with one another.

⟡ ⟡ ⟡

⟡⟡

2. What are you looking forward for this term? What I look forward to this term is mainly my connection and bonding with my board members since I would like to get to know them better. 3. What do you love most about Key Club? What I love most about key club is the inclusion of people, it doesn't matter where you're from or your background. It's a great place to make new friends as well as a chance to learn new things like leadership. 4. What is one of your favorite memories in Key Club? One of my favorite memorable moments of Key Club is definitely when we won the spirit stick at fall rally. Everyone was so hyped and excited and when it was announced that we were the winners of the spirit stick everyone let out a loud battle cry of glory. Not only that but I met new people from other divisions and had a blast riding the rides there at Six Flags. 5. When you’re having a bad day, what do you do to make yourself feel better? When I'm having a bad day what I do to make myself feel better is watch anime, or play games. They take your mind off of the stressful things of life. They both are great ways to relax and they're fun to do especially games since they're made to have fun. 6. Tell us a joke! What do you call fake spaghetti? An im-pasta! 7. How do you feel?

feel good! Ohhh I feel so good! I feel fine! All of the time! Abooga! Abooga! Abooga, booga, booga, booga!
