A charter flight from San Diego delivers you to the lagoon of San Ignacio, a remote and pristine desert world – the perfect place from which to observe the gray whales in their winter breeding grounds. In between whale watching excursions, you can kayak through the labyrinth mangrove estuaries to bird watch in this natural aviary, or comb the peaceful shoreline to discover remnants of the sea. Our catered camp is situated at water’s edge with safari-style tents, cots, and solar-heated showers to make your days and nights comfortable and carefree. With delicious Mexican food and happy hour each evening, capture a lifetime of memories as you grow to love and respect the gray whales as much as we do. 8

LEATHER REALM by Dave Murdock Last week I began talking about emergency situations in a scene, which is where we’ll pick it up this time. As I said last week, emergencies can happen at any time, so you always have to be prepared. They can be either physical emergencies or mental ones. The easiest ones to deal with, obviously are they physical ones. So what do you do when presented with one? Well, first of all, do your best not to let them happen in the first place. Make sure you’ve had plenty of training in whatever fetish you want to practice and that a knowledgeable person has said “OK, you’re ready to solo”. But as I related last week, even the most well prepared top can find themselves in an emergency, so what do you do next? Well the first thing you should do happens before the scene ever takes place. You should (and this really goes for everyone, Leather or not) take a First Aid Course, and a CPR course and go through refresher courses at least once a year for CPR and every 3 years for First Aid. Sometimes your local Leather club will host them, but if not your local Red Cross has classes on a regular basis (The Palm Desert Red Cross office offers several classes a month). That way you’re much better prepared to handle anything that may come up.

next step is to make sure you have a First Aid kit handy, and stocked. 99% of the time you will be able to treat most minor injuries if you’re trained and ready. If it’s a major emergency, don’t wait, dial 911 (or your local emergency number) NOW! You can continue to give aid while your waiting for professional help, but don’t delay. And don’t worry about “Oh, what will the paramedics say? He’s naked and covered in whip marks..” Believe me they’ve seen it all, and the important thing isn’t whether you’re embarrassed or not, it’s the health and well being of your partner that’s important at that point. (By the way, if you’re playing on a cross or a chain web make sure you’re using quick release clips between the restraints and the equipment. If you don’t and they slip or they faint you’ll find yourself in a situation where you can’t release them because even a 160 pound man may be too much for you to lift to take the strain off of whatever is holding them!)

But maybe the emergency isn’t physical, it’s emotional. Your boy/bottom/slave/trick du jour has a breakdown during the scene. It happens, and it’s happened to most tops at some point, it’s happened to me more than once. First thing to do, obviously, is to stop the scene. Next get them out of any restraints they might be in and get them into a normalized setting if that’s possible. Next, hold them. Physical contact can be OK, you’re trained in your fetish, you’ve very soothing to someone who’s experience had your CPR and First Aid classes, so the a breakdown, and it Continued on page 41 26 Your weekly LGBT Gay Desert Guide. JERSEY’S JOURNAL by Jersey Shore In case you didn’t know, and are reading cowardly rants. Just because you said this column for the first time, I write Jerit means absolutely NOTHING to me. sey’s Journal EVERY week. I am grateful YOU mean NOTHING to me. Yes it is for the outlet. I tell it like it is and what all about me! I am the gate keeper to my amazes me is that you read it. It’s the sanity and my being. You won’t disrupt ones that quote various parts and lessons or influence me because you don’t matter that surprise me. I don’t even remember to me. I take more interest in the crap I what I write, and I wrote it! I think it’s just took in the toilet and that I can flush. the fact that I have a deadline on a certain All turds can be flushed. That is the key day. Then the magazine hits the stands to a happy life and being turd free! Hapalmost a week later. ‘m always on to the piness is a flush away! next thing. Also known as the Universe. As Throw Back Thursdays starting August crazy as I am, I do have a good clear set 6th at the Ultra Star Cinema way of thinking. I’ve been there, done that. Bought a T-shirt and learned from that experience or enjoyed it. I’m happy to be me. I may be crazy, but at least I am not delusional. I’ve been close to suicidal and still have a grasp on reality. I have good instincts and can read people and their body language. Plus a HUGE amount of common sense. What a large majority of people lack. I think I’d rather you be rude instead of having no common sense. Am I correct in saying that? It’s common sense!!!! These days’ people can hide behind a computer with the new trend cyber bullying. Let’s face it. Cyber bullies are just cowards. Grow a set a balls and man up. I can take it, and I WILL give it back. I 40 Your weekly LGBT the Gaynegative Desert Guide. Next week we’ll continue our foray into what makes a good Top, talking about special responsibilities to novice players. To be continued…

THAT IS FUNNY The gay son asks the father, “Dad, how many kinds of balls are there?” The father, surprised, answers, “Well, son, a guy goes through three phases. In his 20s, a man’s balls are like melons, round and firm. In his 30s and 40s, they are like pears, still nice, hanging a bit. After 50, they are like onions.” “Onions?” the son asks. “Yes. You see them and it makes you cry.” “OK, then how many different kinds of dicks are there?” Dad smiles and says, “Same thing son, a man goes through three phases also. In his 20s, his willy is like an oak tree, mighty and hard. In his 30s and 40s, it’s like a birch, flexible but reliable. After his 50s, it’s like a Christmas tree.” “A Christmas tree?” the boy asks. “Yes, dead from the root up and the balls are just cheap decoration.” Recent Poll on Hillary’s run for the Whitehouse? When asked if they would still have sex with Bill Clinton, 86% of women in D.C. said, “Not again.” Happy Father’s Day!

THE LAST WORD by George W. Zander Despite significant advances in legal protections, LGBT folks and especially youth, continue to struggle in places that disparage their identities. We need to continue to work hard, fight if you will, to save our kids from rejection, and bullying at home and school. The Coachella Valley is a hot bed of LGBT kids who are afraid, lost, practicing substance abuse and in need of resources for help. In my fabulous and festive neighborhood of Warm Sands, there is no way to walk around the Sunny Dunes Shopping District without encountering homeless youth. Many neighborhood folks are helpful and try to do their best. The business owners deserve a shout out and managers of Starbucks, and Jack in the Box and KFC are all very supportive. Most homeless kids are not criminals- they are alone, encountering higher rates of truancy, victimization and school failure. They of course have higher rates of depression lower self-esteem and few plans for the future.

youth.

“These bills (now introduced in the Californian Legislature) go a long way toward reducing many of the disparities in health and well-being suffered by the LGBT community compared to the general population, said Rick Zbur, executive director of Equality California. ”We’re pleased that lawmakers understand the importance of making sure that all children are safe and respected, and that all Californians have equal access to quality healthcare.” For more information on these bills, go to www.eqca.org. And thanks to Geoff Kors and the National Center for Lesbian Rights for this information. Thanks so much and to keep great folks who are on our side, please be sure you are registered to vote. Drop by Village Fest, or go on line at www.sos.gov.

There has to be an action plan and soon. Homelessness is everywhere in the world, but in a smart, sophisticated city like Palm Springs, there is no excuse. Equality California is working in Sacramento to help on such areas as creating services and establish guidelines to stabilize and support our George W.
