Até hoje, acredito que aquele foi o ponto mais crítico desses 20 anos. Se WimBelemDon tivesse que encerrar suas atividades, seria naquele momento. Se não fechou, a gente poderia dar um jeito em qualquer coisa dali para frente. Tudo seria possível. E houve vários impasses: a venda do terreno, o incêndio... Ainda assim, acho que aquela foi a virada de chave, o momento em que o WimBelemDon deixou de ser do Marcelo e da Lu e passou a ser do mundo.

Várias coisas do dia a dia foram marcantes. As olimpíadas, no período de verão e nas férias de inverno. Eu era enlouquecida por esses eventos. Valiam pontos, que a gente acumulava para participar do ‘dia perfeito’, nossa meta de vida. Ir para as piscinas da AABB, do Campestre Macabi e Ajuris. Hoje, quando lembro aqueles períodos, do Marcelo e da Lu tomando conta da gente, manhã e tarde, o tempo todo, vejo O TAMANHO understand they needed to do whatever it took to keep the project going. And they did it. We could breathe the next year.

To this day, I believe that was the most critical moment of the past 20 years. If WimBelemDon had to close, it would be then. If it didn’t close, we could find a way to handle whatever was thrown at us after that. Everything would be possible. And there have been many problems: the sale of the land, the fire. Even though I still think that that was the key moment, when WimBelemDon no longer belonged to Marcelo and Lu, but to the world.

DA DEDICAÇÃO.

Quando o professor de tênis faltava, era um tendéu. Seu Nelson ajudava, o pai da Lu também. Fazíamos muitas brincadeiras. Uma delas era o galo de rinha, um círculo feito com uma mangueira onde duas crianças disputavam, com os braços para trás, quem conseguia ficar dentro daquele espaço. Hoje parece absurdo. Mas nos divertíamos muito!

Nas férias, os educandos dos dois turnos faziam atividades juntos. Havia torneios internos. Participei de um com o Rafa (Rafael Bernardes, que hoje também trabalha no WimBelemDon) e outros dois colegas. Mesmo considerados zebras do campeonato, ganhamos. O troféu era maravilhoso. Mas era só um, para os quatro jogadores. A combinação era ficar uma semana na casa de cada. O Guilherme ficou com ele na primeira semana e ninguém nunca mais viu o troféu. Ainda vou combinar com o Rafa de procurar por ele!

Em 2009, o Agostinho Carvalho veio treinar a gente para sermos boleiros da Copa Davis. Foi fantástico! A minha primeira vez num ambiente superprofissional de tênis. Nós, boleiros, tínhamos uma salinha especial, com frigobar, refri, água, suco, sanduíches. Era outro mundo. Nossa roupa

Many daily things are memorable. The Olympics in the summer and in the winter break. I was crazy about those events. You could score points towards participating in the ‘Perfect Day’, our life goal, when we went to the swimming pools at AABB, Campestre Macabi and AJURIS. Now, when I remember those times, with Marcelo and Lu looking after us morning and afternoon, all the time, I can see THE TREMENDOUS DEDICATION. When the tennis coach missed a lesson, it was chaos. Mr Nelson would lend a hand, so would Lu’s dad. We would make up lots of games. One of them was the ‘cockfight’, an arena made with a garden hose where two kids, with their arms behind their back, would compete to stay inside the circle. Now it sounds absurd. But we had so much fun!

During the school holidays, all the morning and the afternoon pupils would take part in activities together. There were internal tournaments. I took part in one with Rafa [Rafael Bernardes, who also works at WimBelemDon now] and two other colleagues. We were considered the dark horses of the competition, and we won. The trophy was glorious. But it was only one, for all four players. We agreed to keep it for one week each. Guilherme had it for the first week and then no one ever saw the trophy again. I will get together with Rafa to go look for it yet!

In 2009, Agostinho Carvalho came to coach us to be ball kids at the Davis Cup. It was fantastic! It was my first time in a super professional tennis environment. We, the ball kids, had a special green room with a minibar, soft drinks, water, juice, sandwiches. It
