al qual a Quadra Central de Wimbledon, a quadra do WimBelemDon foi palco de inúmeras conquistas ao longo de sua história. Assim como os grandes jogadores que pisam no mítico gramado do mais antigo torneio de tênis do mundo, os jogadores que se sujam no saibro da quadra mais ao sul de Porto Alegre são imbuídos de muita garra e correm atrás de um sonho. Mas, ao contrário do tradicional torneio britânico, no qual os vencedores são poucos e a conquista é premiada com um troféu, na quadra de Belém Novo todos são vencedores, e o prêmio é ter a vida transformada.

Em suas duas décadas de história, o WimBelemDon já ajudou a transformar a vida de mais de mil crianças e adolescentes. Esse número tão expressivo, que traz orgulho para todos que de alguma forma contribuíram para que essas vidas fossem transformadas, faz com que seja impossível contarmos todas as histórias neste livro. Assim, optamos por destacar apenas dois cases muito significativos: Jaleska Mendes e Rafael Bernardes, ex-educandos que se profissionalizaram e que voltaram ao projeto como educadores. Vidas transformadas pelo WimBelemDon e que hoje se dedicam a promover a transformação da trajetória de outras crianças e adolescentes.

UM EVENTO, 13 EDUCANDOS, 13 HISTÓRIAS DE VIDA

Em 2009, 13 educandos do projeto foram selecionados para atuar como boleiros (após um período de treinamento específico) na Copa Davis, disputada em Porto Alegre/RS entre Brasil e Equador. Elegantemente uniformizados, eles tiveram uma oportunidade de viver algo único e de ter contato com o circuito profissional de tênis. Passados 11 anos, cada uma dessas crianças e adolescentes encontrou seu rumo, realizou sonhos, obteve vitórias, profissionalizou-se.

ust like the Centre Court at Wimbledon, the court at WimBelemDon has been the setting of many victories throughout its history. Just like the great tennis players that step onto the hallowed grass of the oldest tennis tournament in the world, the players that get dirty in the clay of the southernmost tennis court in Porto Alegre are overcome with determination to chase their dream. However, unlike the traditional British tournament, in which winners are few and awards are trophies, on the Belém Novo court everyone is a winner and the award is a transformed life. In its two decades of existence, WimBelemDon has helped transform the lives of over 1,000 children and teenagers. This impressive number, which brings joy to everyone who has, at some point, contributed with the transformation of these lives, makes it impossible to tell every single story in one book. Thus, we have chosen to highlight only two significant examples: Jaleska Mendes and Rafael Bernardes, alumni who became professionals and returned to the project as educators. Lives transformed by WimBelemDon and that are now dedicated to positively changing the trajectory of other children and teenagers.

ONE EVENT, 13 PUPILS, 13 LIFE STORIES

In 2009, 13 of the project’s pupils were selected to work as ball kids (after a dedicated training period) at the Davis Cup, played in Porto Alegre/ RS between Brazil and Ecuador. Elegantly attired, the pupils had the opportunity to experience something unique and come into contact with professional tennis. 11 years on, each one of those children and teenagers found their pathway, made dreams come true, obtained victories, became professionals
