January 13 and 14 Ron Hoover will host their 15th AnnualOpenHousenextweek,Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. The annual open house has become a popular event in the Rio GrandeValley,drawinginthousandsof people each year. This year’s event is expected to be even bigger than previous years. All who register at the event will receive a free t-shirt, free food, free drinks, and free parking. Ron Hoover RV & Marine Center is located at 101 Expressway 83 in Donna (on the south side of the expressway). Parking will be available along North Ave. behind Ron Hoover. Golf cart shuttling will be provided both days. January 14 and 15 RGV Woodcarvers Show will be held at the Nomad Shrine Club (1044 W. Nolana Blvd., Pharr). There will be carvings of just about every carving category on display. Many displayers will have carvings and supplies available for sale. The Soil Science Expo at IMAS is a weekend-long event celebrating the
ground under our feet with virtual programs occurring Saturday, January 15, and a community day on-site Sunday, January 16 from 1-5 p.m. The event will feature hands-on art and science activities and opportunities for visitors to engage with civil engineers and soil scientists. Participating organizations include For the Love of Soil, McAllen Public Utility, Rodriguez Engineering Laboratories, LLC, Texas A&M University, and University of Texas RioGrandeValleySchoolofEarth,Environment, and Marine Sciences. January 16 TheMuseumofSouthTexasHistory kicks off the 2022 Sunday Speaker Series with a book presentation and signing featuring Robert Saldaña at 2 p.m. on Jan. 16 at MOSTH in Edinburg. Saldaña’sbooktitled,“TejanoExperience: The History and Genealogy of My Maternal Grandfather’s Garza & Olivares Families in South Texas” is a case study in Spanish and Mexican American genealogy which resulted from his efforts to learn more about himself, his family and fellow Tejanos. Guests can purchase a copy of the book, while supplies last, at the Museum Store that can be signed by the author. The presentation will be recorded and posted for public access on the museum’s website atwww.mosthistory.org/sunday-speaker-series-online. January 17-22 Rally on the Rio by the RGV Woodcarvers will be held with 18 of the best instructors from all over the United States coming to share their knowledge and skills. Classes in all types of woodcarvings and pyrography will be available. The event will be held at the Nomad Shrine Club, 1044 W. Nolana, Pharr. January 19 Workshop Wednesdays kicks off at IMAS at 4 p.m. live on Facebook with Surrealist Collage inspired by “ImaginedWorlds:ExploringtheCarlosMelguizo Collection.” This program is free for all registrants. A limited number of supply kits are available for registration each month and are to be picked up the weekend prior to the live workshop. IMAS publishes supply lists ahead of the workshop.
