Dallington School owes its existence to our founder, Mogg Hercules. A natural educator, Mogg’s philosophy and ideas were focused on nurturing children´s development and broadening their learning experiences and ensuring that they were happy learners.
In 1978 she and her husband bought number 8 Dallington Street and Dallington School was born.
Fast forward to 2023, and under the strong, visionary leadership of new Head James Griffiths, Dallington is looking firmly to the future, with a constantly-developing curriculum, packed with diverse activities and trips, along with a strong pastoral support team.
Situated in the heart of Clerkenwell, Dallington has five large airy, open-plan floors of classrooms and specialist spaces. With an abundance of natural light and high ceilings, we have much more space than our exterior would suggest! Playtime is spent in a beautiful playground around the corner, equipped with plentiful climbing frames, trees, football quad, as well as playground equipment including tricycles for younger children, sports equipment, and a table tennis table.
The plentiful curricular-related trips are all included in the fees. These include expeditions to the theatre, concerts, museums, galleries, local woodland for Forest School, and much more. A little bit of history

The area has been populated since medieval times and was a source of water for the capital throughout the 17th and 18th centuries. The Regent’s Canal also allowed for trade in centuries past, but Islington’s major development and growth into the bustling residential area we know today began in the 19th century with the advent of the railway. Today the area is known as the home of Premier League football club Arsenal who play at Emirates Stadium.
Why move to Islington?
People from many diverse backgrounds are drawn here by the excellent schooling options, wide range of amenities and eclectic mix of shops, restaurants and entertainment venues. Local residents benefit from excellent commuter links with a wide selection
of bus, road and rail connections. There are many underground stations in the area, but the main Zone 2 hub of Highbury & Islington is on the Victoria Line for a quick hop into central London and also offers frequent overground services to such diverse
locations as Crystal Palace, Stratford and Richmond. Islington has its fair share of pleasant parks and gardens for families to enjoy, including the 30-acre Highbury Fields with a leisure centre, tennis courts and playground.
Ideal living
Quiet and secluded, you are more likely to find people sitting around and discussing a book along the canal in Islington than going out clubbing here. This area is extremely popular with those just moving to London thanks to the thriving property market, traditional homes, and newly built apartment buildings. The most coveted properties here are the elegant Georgian houses that line many streets, but they’ll take a bit of luck (and a lot of money) to get one.
There are very few chain stores or restaurants in the area. Instead, each and every shop is unique. You can find the latest fashion trends at the boutiques that dot Islington High Street and Upper Street. Or explore the Camden Passage market, which is popular with tourists and locals alike, to see a great combination of collectibles, antiques, vintage fashion, gifts, and homewares.
The neighborhood has amazing dining options. Almeida is probably the most famous restaurant in the area and is consistently rated as
one of the best in London. Locals boast that they have some of the tastiest Italian food around. You’ll also find Mediterranean, Mexican, French, Turkish, and other cuisines, along with basics like a burger joint and casual breakfast spots. What is your favourite type of project to work on?
The Scenario method of design truly comes into its own on the most challenging projects. The more limitations our team has to work with, the better the end result. We believe that true architecture only emerges from limitations, whether from planning permission constraints, limited budgets or complex sites.
At Scenario, we feel that every home we design should be perfectly tailored to the lifestyles of
those living in the space, now and in the years to come. The true value of our service lies in successfully negotiating and balancing the contradicting forces every individual project presents, and thoughtfully guiding the clients through each step of what is often a long, complex and high octane journey. The most rewarding element is playing our part in transforming our clients’ dream homes into reality.
Who takes the lead during the design process for each project?
The Scenario design process was developed, tested and perfected through over a decade of delivering residential projects in London. We start each and every project with a meticulous analysis of our client’s lifestyles, asking our clients to imagine their everyday scenarios living in the completed house - such as how they prepare meals and where the family gathers, where they would put Amazon packages, what view they want as they drink their morning coffee, where they want to relax with a glass of wine or their favourite places to read.
We translate the results into a virtual reality 3D simulation of the proposed design for us to workshop together, with realistic materials, lighting and textures to chop and change in real time. A completely fresh and unique design will gradually emerge and shape spaces which tell the clients’ story, not ours. It won’t look like an image cut out of a trendy architecture magazine. It should feel familiar, warm and inviting. The clients should recognise themselves within as an expression of their individuality.
What project are you most proud of?
Our landmark project Scenario House in Stoke Newington is a personal favourite of mine. Although a relatively small project for us, it showcases the true potential of the Scenario method of design and how revolutionary results can be achieved when the clients’ individual scenarios remain as the sole focus of the architectural process. The team navigated through tight planning restrictions and the constricted envelope of a traditional period property, to transform the functionality, beauty and flow of the home. While it is by no means our most extravagant project to date, we feel it perfectly encapsulates the essence of why Scenario Architecture was created.

Freightliners Farm
Freightliners City Farm is a 2.5 acres green space in the very urban London Borough of Islington. It is a small community farm where a diverse range of people take part in farming and gardening and people can visit and spend time in a countryside type environment in the city. London Canal Museum
At the London Canal Museum, you can see inside a narrowboat cabin, learn about the history of London’s canals, about the cargoes carried, the people who lived and worked on the waterways, and the horses that pulled their boats. Peer down into the unique heritage of a huge Victorian ice well used to store ice imported from Norway and brought by ship and canal boat to be stored. This unique waterway museum is housed in a former ice warehouse built in about 1862-3 for Carlo Gatti, the famous ice cream maker, and features the history of the ice trade and ice cream as well as the canals.
