INVALID PARKS

Mid South East Football League

By Steve Walters (SE Voice)

A welcome dose of pre-Spring weather was evident last weekend but it is unlikely the mercury might climb again on Saturday. It should be standing room only on Can Hill which is the premier viewing point in country South Australia.

Going solely on form, Kalangadoo deserves to start favourites as it has only lost one game during the minor round.

By J.L. 'Fred' Smith (SE Voice)

The Western Border Cats voted last month 97% in favour of joining the MSEFL in 2023 but because they were busy hosng a preliminary final at Island Park, they could not travel to HaRobe.therleigh and Kalangadoo would be desperate to win to gain the direct path to the grand final at Kalangadoo on September 17.

Honorary groundsman and 1980 Carthew Medallist Peter Henderson will have the grass in p-top condion.

A KALANGADOOGRADEvHATHERLEIGH

It is one a piece in the home and away season between the Eagles and Magpies and both will be looking at the bigger picture come the end of the day

The Magpies are well drilled to move the ball into aack and give Krieger, Ben Gregory, Ben Mules and co. every opportunity to boot a winning score.

ROBE v HATHERLEIGH

JUNIOR COLTS These two teams drew a line in the sand in round 17 and had a great bale, with the Murphies coming out on top by 10 points. The Murphies will need to bring their best and that will come from Tighe Hurley, Kallan Price and Kade FMulraneyortheHawks it will be spread across numerous players, but Declan Richardson, Jobe Janeway, Rhys Newton and Harrison Elletson will be players to watch.

The verdict: Kalangadoo is a hungry ouit having lost the 2021 grand final and the side has a greater depth of talent but the Hatherleigh Eagles cannot be discounted if they play at full capacity.

Hatherleigh has some talented players that will carry the ball forward to score quickly while Kalangadoo has the experience and level head of Chris Mules.

Hatherleigh would prefer a large and firm oval and that will not exactly be provided at Mt Burr as it is the smallest in the MSEFL and we have had some rainy days this week.

Mind you, the Eagles did not come away empty-handed, with Mikey Telford named as joint Walker Medallist and the club winning the coveted Glenelg trophy for performances across all four grades. The cause of the Magpies was boosted on Sunday when four of the top prizes came its way at the annual MSEFL presentaon funcons held at the Millicent War Memorial Civic and Arts Centre. Hatherleigh also started the return game well on August 20, but faltered and was then overrun to lose by two goals.Itisno coincidence that Kalangadoo lost two of its 2021 finals when Krieger was missing due to injury

SENIOR COLTS

Kalangadoo's stocks have risen on the eve of their meeng with second-ranked Hatherleigh as the Mid South Eastern Football League prepares to stage its semi final on Saturday at “Mick” and Jean Walker Oval at Mount Burr Tom Williams was named as junior coach of the year, Chris Mules won his first Carthew Medal, forward Michael Krieger claimed his second consecuve goal-kicking prize and Tye McManus won the Bill Hanel Memorial Under 21 Award.

It need eight goals while conceding a mere behind and the visitors never breached this gap.

KONGORONG v GLENCOE HATHERLEIGH v KALANGADOO

Robe has had a good season and will rely on Hudson Peel, Kaiden Carter and Flynn Peel to maintain its winning streak.

Mid South East finals football will connue this weekend with the semi-final being played at Mick and Jean Walker Oval. Both sides are in the top two and it a brave heart style of football will be required.

RESERVES

They had entered the semi-final as the undefeated reigning and minor premiers but succumbed to Port MacDonnell who went on to repeat that result in the grand final.

The Hawks were undefeated unl the last game and Glencoe will have the minor premiers a bit concerned come Saturday morning.

Joshua Searle, Mules and Sco Agnew will be the Keys to the Magpies while Tim Merre, Clayton Skeer and Ethan Bowman are the leading Eagles. But that was a long me ago and things are a lot different now finals have Meanarrived.while, the Eagles will most likely have the speed to outrun the Roosters and will look to Harvey Jones to kick a bag full of goals with support from Eli Kneen and Jack Marino.

When the ball reaches the forward line of the Eagles, Sam Telfer, Bradley Mitchell and Jake Wight must capitalise.

It was back in round 12 when these two-sides baled against each other and the Roosters were victorious by 62 points.

The other incenve would be to avoid a cut-throat confrontaon with reigning premiers Port MacDonnell in the preliminary final at Kalangadoo on September 10. It must be noted the black-andwhites were in an even beer posion a year ago.

That solitary blemish was by a sizeable 45 points at Hatherleigh on June 4 when the Eagles unleashed a devastang first-quarter blitzkrieg.

second SEMI-FINAL footbALL PREVIEWS

It remains to be seen how many players and supporters of the Casterton Sandford Football Netball Club will be on hand to witness a Mid South Eastern final.

For Hatherleigh to win, Mark Marrio and Darcy Bateman must win the rucks and bring the likes of Telford and Jordan Galpin into the play

Last weekend our Reserves parcipated in the Eliminaon Final against Robe on their home deck. It was a beauful day for finals footy. Nathan finally had a full squad of healthy players to pick from and they were able to show how far they've come this season and put their best foot forward in a do or die match up. Robe had also improved since our last encounter and it turned out to be a high scoring affair. We got out of the blocks early kicking with a slight breeze and pung up 7 goals to 2 in the first term. Some great passages of play were on display with the open field doing both teams some favours. In the second term we feel asleep and possibly thought the hard work was done. We only managed 1 point to Robe's 3 straight goals. The game was up for grabs entering the 2nd half Nathan gave the boys a big rev up at half me and we came out and kicked 7 goals to 2 again in the third term. Ben Curran was on song, kicking 7 goals himself and seng up a couple also. The open spaces suited our forward line and midfield to run free. In the last term we extended our lead, and we ran away with a 57point win to book ourselves a place in the Preliminary Final in 2 weeks' me. Beer players for the day were Dane Paproth, Ben Curran, Jayson

Senior Colts: A good start to our finals series against the Burr on the weekend, geng the job done by 89 points. The boys were fired up and ready to go right from the get go, the first 3 quarters of footy were the best footy I've seen all year from them, everything we have been praccing was coming into play! From our backline kick outs, midfield structures and our run and carry all around the ground, it was fantasc too see. We knew coming into the last quarter the Burr were going to be fired up and knew they were going to use their bodies. I stressed to the boys about just playing the game and finishing strong, it was mostly good but had a few down points. If I had a choice I would've awarded best players to the group because every single one of them played their role, which complemented the team around the ground. Award winners for the day were Brodie Von Stanke-Dowie – Mahews Petrolleum Award, Mackye Baron – MT Wheels, Will Von Stanke – Swallow Drive Meats, Maverick Cooper –Mick Mullan Award, Tyler Richardson – Coaches Award and Cohen Janeway – Badenoch's Deli Award. 17 & Under: Aer a close game with Tantanoola in the minor rounds, we met again for the 1st semi-final. The finals nerves was evident with both teams going goal for goal in the first quarter. We managed to gain a few crucial intercepts to end the quarter with a 2 goal lead. Our defensive pressure connued throughout the game, allowing our goalies plenty of incropportunies.scoringThiseasedourleadto 12 going into the final quarter. The girls posive atude on and off the court helped secure a 14 goal win! We're all so proud of all 10 girls that stepped onto the court and played their role! Let's get out to Kdoo in two weeks me to cheer on these girls to a place in the GF! Big thanks to Wayne for scoring.

13 & Under: Bad luck girls, we were beaten by the beer team on the day. We have had a fantasc season on and off the court, with lots of posives coming from this season and playing in finals is such a bonus. We gave our all and that's all I can ask. Playing finals netball is such a wonderful experience and something I hope you all get more off. Good luck to all the girls going up and connue your netball journey. Lastly thanks so much for Lisa filling in as team manager, along with Lilly, and our Tess for doing the role all season. Also a big thanks to Sam for scoring. We and everyone at the club wish Sabina and her family all the best as they are moving away. Finally, to my parents thanks so much for all your wonderful support for me as a coach and to the team.
