VIEW FROM THE HILL Well, well, well, the Kalangadoo bubble finally sha ered on Saturday as they came up against a commi ed, focussed and fierce opponent in Port MacDonnell who took the easy road to the grand final with an exci ng 11pt win. Port MacDonnell had first use of a 3-goal breeze and despite domina ng general play it was Kalangadoo that scored first blood a er an intense opening few minutes. For all the me Port MacDonnell held possession and peppered the goals the game should've been all but over at quarter me, but they kicked an inaccurate 4-8 to Kalangadoo's 3-0 at the first break. Kalangadoo struggled up forward without their leading goal kicker in Michael Krieger. Billy Galpin took the full forward posi on for Kalangadoo, but was well matched by veteran Ben McGregor who easily thwarted many forward entries with his football smarts and skill. Kalangadoo made good use of the breeze in the second term but you always felt that Port MacDonnell were controlling the game. The Magpies short lead up game plan wasn't paying dividends for them and it appeared they had no plan B. Whereas for Port MacDonnell, their en re team came to play and they had no passengers in their 22. The dominance of their talls in Daron McElroy, Tim Sullivan, Dylan Bromley, Will MacDonald and even Ned Wilke and Wade Chant gave Port MacDonnell the edge right across the ground. At the last change it was Port MacDonnell in front by just 9pts. Port MacDonnell con nued to apply pressure to Kalangadoo and having the luxury of playing MacDonald on a wing where he could float into the forward line and be an op on or drop back into defence during the last quarter certainly paid off. Wilke and MacDonald both finished the day with 3 goals with best players named being Jake Turner, McGregor, Zack Williams, Sullivan, McElroy and Kevin Thomson. For Kalangadoo, they certainly were 4-5 goals worse off

without their spearhead in Krieger as their only mul ple goal kickers were Lachie Jones, Josh Searle, Billy Galpin and Alex Lyon all with 2. Kalangadoo's best went the way of Nathan Reeves, who tried hard all day against much taller opponents, Chris Mules, Mitch Lowe, Sam McManus, Alex Lyon and Tye McManus. In the other games, Hatherleigh made short work of Robe in the Reserves game quickly stamping their authority and were never challenged as they cantered into their third straight grand final appearance with an empha c 102pt point win. In the senior colts, the same two teams competed, and the result was very much the same except in reverse. The Robe senior colts are currently undefeated and their winning margin of 148pts is rarely seen in the underage compe ons and both teams will no doubt enjoy the weekend off with a great deal of confidence leading into the last game of the year. The Junior Colts match was a very ght and entertaining contest with both sides struggling to find the big s cks. Neither side could shake the defensive pressure of the other and goals were a rare commodity. In the end it was Kongorong who found themselves in front by just 4pts at the final siren and earnt themselves a spot in a grand final. To today's game and the big ques on will be can Kalangadoo bounce back a er such a tough and ght contest of last weeks match? Hatherleigh have had the week off, have a fully fit playing list to choose from and from their perspec ve have absolutely nothing to lose. Hatherleigh have shown that they are capable of winning tough, ght games as they did against Robe and will match up pre y well against Kalangadoo. Kalangadoo on the other hand will need to work on their forward entries and have a game plan of how they are going to kick a winning score. These two teams only met once during the season due to rnd15 being abandoned, and

Kalangadoo were victors by 26pts. This was way back in rnd 6 and a lot of water has gone under the bridge since then. Kalangadoo are no strangers to finals pressure and this just might be where the winning edge will come from. Most final matches are won above the shoulders and this mindset will see Kalangadoo advance for another crack at Port MacDonnell next week. In the other games, Robe come up against Port MacDonnell in the Reserves prelim final. Robe will be keen to put last week behind them, but in saying that Port MacDonnell wiped the deck with Robe in rnd 17 by nearly 10 goals, so it is hard to see Robe overcoming a 10-goal deficit in a ma er of weeks, but then again finals are a different ball game and stranger things have happened. I expect the two junior games to be absolute crackers. Tantanoola and Hatherleigh meet in the Senior Colts match and although they only played each other in the last minor round game, which Hatherleigh won easily, my mail suggests that today's game will be a lot closer. Joint Malseed Medallist in Ethan Bowman (Hatherleigh) and Cade Kelly (Tantanoola) will be up against each other and this contest will be worth the entry fee alone. Both these lads have great skills and bring their team mates into the game, so it will be an interes ng clash, but slightly leaning towards Hatherleigh as their depth runs a li le deeper than Tantanoola. The Junior Colts match first up will see Hatherleigh take on Robe. Both sides have one win a piece during the minor round so this is shaping up to be anyone's game. Hatherleigh definitely played a great game last week to finish just short and Robe ba led hard against a very determined Glencoe ou it a couple of weeks ago to advance to todays game. I expect this to be a very close contest, but maybe Hatherleigh, but only just.

preliminary FINAL match PREVIEWS 13 & Under – HATHERLEIGH v MT BURR In the knockout final this week in the 13's, we'll see Hatherleigh taking on Mt Burr. Unfortunately for Hatherleigh, they weren't able to get close to the very talented Kalangadoo 13's side, however they have another chance to reach the Grand Final if they can defeat Mt Burr this weekend. Mt Burr defeated Nangwarry in the 1st Semi and have had the week off. When the teams met earlier in the year, it was Hatherleigh that came out on top in both rounds. Kalli Ne le was strong for the Eagles at the weekend, she will likely line-up against Sara Smith who has had a great season for the Mozzies in defence. Alex Haines also gave 110% in defence for the Eagles in their match against the Pies, she could line up against Tilly Gamble who is a strong goalie and played well under pressure in the 1st Semi Final. Both teams are quite versa le and won't be afraid to make changes if necessary. A lot of talented juniors across both teams, should be a great game. Kalangadoo await the winner, they appear to be in a league of their own this year, but this won't deter the Eagles or Mozzies, both of whom would love the opportunity to experience the excitement of playing in a Grand Final. 15 & Under – HATHERLEIGH v KALANGADOO To get proceedings underway Saturday, we will see Hatherleigh taking on Kalangadoo in the first match of the day, our 15 & Under Preliminary Final. Hatherleigh were defeated by Mt Burr at the weekend, only going down by 2 goals. Kalangadoo were impressive against Port MacDonnell in the 1st Semi and had a convincing win, followed by the week off. Hatherleigh were unlucky on the weekend and played some impressive netball. Bella Poulish and Niah Faulkner were strong in goals for the Eagles, while Tori Haines and Deni Brown were strong through the middle, and had great vision into the goal circle. Down the other end of the court, Tegan Lythgo has had a great finals series, playing in both the 15's and 13's finals. She is an accurate goalie, shoo ng in close or from long range and never appears to need much me to se le in. Gabby Varcoe adds some height to the goal circle, Georgia Gen le also able to make the switch from defence to goals if needed. Both teams boast a strong defence, Indi Howell for the Eagles has height on her side as well as a good ability to read the ball and snatch an impressive intercept here and there. Ebony Wurst for the Pies is a tough and tenacious defender who never lets her opposi on too far out of sight. These teams have only met once during the year and it was Kalangadoo that ran away with an 8 goal win. Should be a cracker game, the winner going on to meet Mt Burr in the Grand Final. 17 & Under – KALANGADOO v MT BURR In the 17 & Under Preliminary Final, we see Kalangadoo taking on Mt Burr. Kalangadoo were beaten quite convincingly by Hatherleigh in the 2nd Semi, while Mt Burr had a strong win against Robe in the 1st Semi and then had the week off. Kalangadoo would be disappointed in their loss at the weekend, they were just 3 goals down at quarter me, but a er that it was all Hatherleigh as they piled on the goals and built their lead. These teams have met twice this season and it has been Kalangadoo that took the wins fairly easily. Kalangadoo's Shelby Ryan has been in good form, shoo ng with accuracy and moving well around the circle. Kori Collins is a strong player and can play in goals or in the centre. She will need to score her first few goals to get her confidence up and be a strong presence for the Pies. Mozzie defenders McKenzie Bevan and Maddie Gamble will need to be on top of their game to combat Ryan and Collins. Amelia Ballantyne was impressive in centre for the Mozzies against Robe, she should have a great ba le against Sophie Wrightson. Charlie Muhovics and Jemma Hayward are strong goalies and shot well in the Semi. They should have a good

match up against the Pies’ Holly Watson and Emily Mulraney. Mount Burr will give their all, but it should be Kalangadoo that goes through for another crack at Hatherleigh in the Grand Final. B Reserve – HATHERLEIGH v GLENCOE In the B Reserve knock out final, it's Hatherleigh taking on Glencoe. Hatherleigh lost by only 3 goals at the weekend in their match against Kalangadoo, while Glencoe were impressive in the 1st Semi against Port MacDonnell and had a convincing win. Both teams have strength in their a acking goal circles. For the Eagles, Indi Marshall had a great game at the weekend, shoo ng accurately and teaming well with Di Loveday. Glencoe’s goalies Lauren Kenny and Bri Liebich are also a strong combina on and are very hard to beat on their day. Ang Tweddle is a solid contributor for the Murphies through the middle. She should have a good match up against either Sally Bateman or Staci Faulkner. Both teams also have strong defensive units – Georgia Chant was excep onal in defence for the Eagles at the weekend and teamed well with Fiona Jackman. Glencoe have experience in Krystal Owen and Kate Sealey is also strong at GD. When the teams met during the season it was Hatherleigh by a single goal in their first match and Covid stopped a rematch in round two. Should be a great contest, the winner going through to take on Kalangadoo in the Grand Final. B Grade – GLENCOE v TANTANOOLA In the B Grade Preliminary Final, we see Glencoe taking on Tantanoola. Glencoe went down by 8 goals to Kalangadoo in the 2nd Semi, while Tantanoola had a win over Hatherleigh in the 1st Semi for another crack at Grand Final glory. Tantanoola's goalies Bec Millowick and Nicole Rutkowski were in good form in their semi, causing headaches for their opponents. Kath Taylor was also impressive on the a acking wing, driving well and feeding beau fully into the circle. Glencoe have a strong defensive line however and they will be doing their best to burst Tant's a acking bubble. Sam Brierley and Sally McDonnell are a strong combo for the Murphies, with Bianca Easterbrook also able to switch from goals to defence if needed. Easterbrook and Kayla Medhurst played well together in goals on Saturday, but did miss a few opportuni es that were snatched up by Kalangadoo’s defence. Glencoe also have Abbie Cocks who is a very valuable and experienced goalie. Tantanoola have a couple of defensive op ons to try to combat the Murphies goalies – Danni Rutkowski, Amy Mason and Kris e Rowe all talented players and capable of securing many turnovers and sending them back down for scoring opportuni es for the Tigers. Previous encounters saw Glencoe secure both wins, one by the slimmest of margins, 1 goal. Should be a cracker, the winner through to the Grand Final to take on Kalangadoo. A Reserve – GLENCOE v PORT MACDONNELL The A Reserve Preliminary Final sees Glencoe taking on Port MacDonnell. Glencoe played a nailbiter at the weekend, only going down to Kalangadoo by 2 goals. Port MacDonnell defeated Tantanoola in the 1st Semi with a convincing 20 goal win. When the teams met earlier in the year, it was Glencoe that secured both wins. Port MacDonnell seem to have had a strong second half of the season however, so expect this game to go down to the wire. Both teams have strong goalies, Megan Hein has added some height, skill and experience to the Bay's goal circle, while youngster Keyarnah Smith has enjoyed her first year playing senior netball and played a terrific 1st Semi. Glencoe secured Taitlyn Rothe this year, she has fit well into the team and had a consistent season. Malinda Markiewicz began her season in A Grade before injuring herself and making her way back into the A Reserve team. The Murphies were also

well served by Madeline Watson in the second half of their match against Kalangadoo. Strong defensive line-ups also serve both these teams well, Holly Smith and Belinda O'Dine are experienced campaigners for the Bay and are always looking for that intercept and are first to the loose ball. Glencoe’s Tameka Medhurst was in good form in the semi, ge ng her hands to many balls and also pulling in any rebounds that went begging. She teams well with Chloe Pfitzner. Jessie Gosden is a steadier through the middle for Glencoe and will have a good match up with either Montanna Millard or Cody Manning. Gosden also capable of switching into defence if needed. Playing coach Narelle Lewis will steady the Bays’ a ack line with her finals experience. Should be an exci ng game to watch, the winner will progress to the big dance to take on Kalangadoo. A Grade – HATHERLEIGH v TANTANOOLA The A Grade Preliminary Final sees Hatherleigh taking on Tantanoola. Hatherleigh went down to Kalangadoo at the weekend by a very credible 3 goals, while Tantanoola overcame Mt Burr in the 1st Semi and have had a week off wai ng to see who they will meet in the knock out final this weekend. Hatherleigh were very impressive against Kalangadoo, in what was a tough and physical encounter, the Eagles were almost able to snatch victory, it was a only few small errors and possibly nerves that cost them in the end. Tantanoola have had an impressive season. They lost Simone Li le early, but other than that they've had a good run with injuries and have kept a consistent team on the court. Their two mee ngs this season have seen Hatherleigh come out on top. Hatherleigh have a very strong a ack line. Keston Green and Lacey Haines combine extremely well. Haines has had an outstanding season in both her junior and senior netball. She possesses speed, skill and accurate shoo ng. With the experience of Green alongside her they are very hard to beat in the circle. Sarah Faulkner didn't line up for the Eagles in the semi, Hatherleigh op ng to give her the week off to recover from an injury. If she comes back into the side it will add some experience to their midcourt. Tegan Merre was outstanding for the Eagles at the weekend, throwing in everything she had and pu ng her body on the line several mes. Maddie Pulmer and Maddie Redman were also impressive for Hatherleigh, ge ng their hands to many balls and taking mely intercepts which really helped li their team. For the Tigers - they too boast some impressive players. Emma Gould is certainly one the Eagles will need to stop. She has had a fabulous season, winning the Under 21 award jointly with Lacey Haines. Her strong holds, accurate shoo ng and rebounding ability are all features of her game. She works well with Jami Walker, who possesses speed, fast hands and the ability to shoot well under pressure. Their midcourt trio of Casey Walker and Vic and Alex Lucas are dangerous, all work well together and have a good mix of talent, speed and determina on. Vic Lucas at centre was important for the Tigers in their win against the Burr, taking crucial intercepts down the court when they needed them. Kate Bromley is ever reliable in the GD posi on, while 17 & Under player Tayla Rowe has really grown into the GK role and has blossomed in her season of senior netball. Bromley has a wealth of netball experience and has been able to guide and nurture Rowe with the two of them together becoming a scary defensive team for their opposi on. Nerves will play a role as they o en do, par cularly in a Prelim Final. Both teams will need to se le quickly to try to get on top early. Accuracy will also be important, both teams have defenders capable of rebounding and making goalies pay for their missed shots. While past mee ngs probably have Hatherleigh as the favourite - finals as we know are a different ball game and the Tigers will certainly give all they've got for a chance at playing on a Grand Final.

second semi-final match REVIEWs 13 & Under – KALANGADOO v HATHERLEIGH In the youngest ba le of the day, top of the ladder, undefeated Kalangadoo took on Hatherleigh. In a very uneven game, the Eagles were simply outclassed by Kalangadoo, resul ng in a very one sided scoreline. Hatherleigh didn't give up, Kalli Ne le doing the best she could, shoo ng with accuracy with the limited opportuni es she got. Leni Carruthers was strong and consistent for the Eagles through the midcourt. For the Magpies, Shayden Russell had a strong game, star ng in goals, showing her versa lity in the midcourt before moving back into the goal circle. Tegan Lythgo has been in outstanding form and played another strong game in goals, shoo ng accurately. Chloe Peacock was terrific in centre, gaining many valuable turnovers for her team. Alice Allen another stand-out in defence for the Pies, reading the ball incredibly well and turning the ball over constantly. Kalangadoo too strong all over the court, hard to see anyone ge ng remotely close to them this year. 15 & Under – MT BURR v HATHERLEIGH The first match of the day began at a fast pace with both teams taking me to se le in a ack. The en re game remained a ght contest, with the biggest margin only every being 3. Hatherleigh's Bella Poulish and Niah Faulkner were very strong and moved well in the goal circle. They were being well fed with some precision passes from Deni Brown and Tori Haines. Down the other end of the court, Mount Burr's Jasmine Holland worked relessly and scored crucial goals all game. She was well supported by Jemma Bowering, first on the outside of the circle with pin-point passes and then the 3rd quarter saw Bowering moved to GS where she combined well with Holland. Mount Burr defenders Macy Burns and Imogen Nowak worked hard in the goal circle and created turnovers to help the Burr stay in the game. The second half saw Indi Howell step up the defence, ge ng some mely turnovers

for the Eagles. The midcourt ba le was a great contest with Hatherleigh’s Deni Brown and Mt Burr’s Abbey Fal ng running hard all day for their respec ve teams. It was incredibly close up un l the last 5 minutes where Mount Burr held the 2 goal lead despite the pressure from the Eagles and were able to come away with the win. Hatherleigh were best served by Niah Faulkner who rebounded and finished off well in the circle, and Tori Haines who had great vision into the goalies. Mount Burr's goalie Jasmine Holland shot accurately for the en re four quarters and Abbey Fal ng had a fantas c run through the centre opening up the game. 17 & Under – HATHERLEIGH v KALANGADOO The 17's match started off at a fast pace, with some great contests and passages of play right across the court. With both teams boas ng some of the best goalies in the 17's compe on, none disappointed, all shoo ng with accuracy and holding their ground well throughout the first quarter. At the start of the second quarter, Hatherleigh came out firing, domina ng the play and crea ng mul ple turnovers, outscoring Kalangadoo 24-10. Lacey Haines and Dakota Hateley were using their speed and clever movement in the goal circle to their advantage, making things difficult for Kalangadoo’s defence. The Eagles’ Jasmyne Bellinger drove and fed the ball consistently, Hatherleigh con nued to dominant throughout the third quarter, outscoring Kalangadoo 21-9. The fourth quarter saw Kalangadoo make some posi onal changes, bringing them back into the game. Georgia Gen le was strong at GS and the Magpies outscored the Eagles 15-13. The damage was already done however, and the Eagles went on to win by a convincing 21 goals. Shelby Ryan was the standout in the Kalangadoo goal circle, effec vely rewarding every turnover and centre pass. Best players for Hatherleigh were Jasmyne Bellinger and Emma Lang, while for Kalangadoo it was Shelby Ryan and

Proudly supporting the Mid South East Football League

Holly Watson who took the honours. B Reserve – HATHERLEIGH v KALANGADOO In the B Reserve 2nd Semi-Final, it was Hatherleigh taking on Kalangadoo. Not much separated these teams at the end of the minor rounds, Hatherleigh finishing on top by just 1 point. Hatherleigh started the first quarter strongly with accurate shoo ng by Indi Marshall and strong defence by Georgia Chant and Fiona Jackman. Kalangadoo's goalies took a li le longer to se le in, Hatherleigh held a 5 goal lead at the first break. In the second quarter, Kalangadoo made changes down their defensive end and when Bianca Thorn suffered a knee injury, 17 & Under player Emily Mulraney came on at GK which had an impact on the game. The Magpies goalies also found their range, bringing them to within 1 at the long break. Kalangadoo GS Jodi Greenwood con nued to shoot accurately in the third quarter, working well with league best and fairest Rhianna May who also shot accurately. Georgia Chant con nued to work relessly for the Eagles in defence. The game all ed up at three quarter me. Kalangadoo worked hard in the last quarter, ge ng the jump and applying pressure, forcing the Eagles into a few errors. Shoo ng accuracy was important in this last quarter, Kalangadoo conver ng their opportuni es, the Eagles missing a few of theirs. Strong feeding by midcourter Imogen Ryan helping the Magpies hang on for 3 goal win. Best for Kalangadoo were Rhianna May and Imogen Ryan. For Hatherleigh it was Georgia Chant and Indianna Marshall. B Grade – KALANGADOO v GLENCOE The first quarter of the B Grade match saw Glencoe come out firing and really put Kalangadoo under a lot of pressure at both ends. Bianca Easterbrook and Kayla Medhurst were a powerful duo in the goal circle for the Murphies, rebounding any missed shots at goal. Con nued next page

second semi-final match REVIEWs From previous page Kalangadoo had some smooth passages of play but the consistent pressure through the mid court from Glencoe had them up by 3 at quarter me. In the second quarter Kalangadoo adjusted quickly and shot well even when put under ample amounts of pressure. Nicole Reeves and Shanae Neale worked hard to get intercepts early keeping Glencoe to less scoring opportuni es. The consistent work by Lucy Williams against a speedy Hayley Greenfield and Williams' speed out of defence had Kalangadoo up by 1 at the main break. In the third quarter Kalangadoo took the lead early and consistently looked a er turnover opportuni es. Chloe Watson had mul ple touches throughout the game and her height was a very useful defensive tool for Glencoe. Kalangadoo worked hard to feed the goalies from the edge of the ring and the shooters made the most of all opportuni es. Kalangadoo went into the final quarter up by 8, bringing on Lisa Ilsley into WD and moving Lucy Williams into WA. Glencoe switched up their goalies adding Abbie Cocks into the mix and Bianca heading down to GK. The last quarter scoring wise was ed up for 11 but the damage for already done for Glencoe finishing 49-41. Best players for Kalangadoo were Lucy Williams and Jess Blackmore, and Glencoe’s were Chloe Watson and Bianca Easterbrook. A Reserve – KALANGADOO v GLENCOE The A Reserve match started goal for goal with neither side being able to get the upper hand. Accurate shoo ng by Kalangadoo goalies Ebony McDiarmid and Madi Bonano saw them hold a slim 1 goal lead at quarter me. Glencoe ba led hard to stay in touch with hard work in defence by Tameka Medhurst and Chloe Pfitzner. Kalangadoo remained cool, calm and collected and pushed out to lead by 3 at half me. Glencoe made changes at the main break bringing Madeleine Watson into GS and Candace Albrecht into WA, Alyce Finnis moved into the defensive wing. Kalangadoo made changes in their mid court. Glencoe worked hard in this

quarter, yet Kalangadoo managed to increase their lead by a further 1 goal. Kylie Schultz took some mely intercepts for the Magpies making Glencoe second guess their op ons going into a ack. Glencoe came out firing at the start of the last, swapping Jessie Gosden to GD, April Von Duve back into WD and Finnis back to C. This had an immediate impact, with Glencoe pegging back the lead. Scores were ed up and the game was tense with just minutes to go. Kalangadoo se led with less errors and McDiarmid put on some impressive shoo ng ge ng 9 for the quarter and helping secure a 2 goal win. A Grade – KALANGADOO v HATHERLEIGH In the much an cipated A Grade match, the game started off with neither team giving an inch. Kalangadoo put the pressure on, resul ng in an early held ball call against the Eagles. Jayde Peacock was driving well, Melissa Russell holding well in the goal circle, conver ng her opportuni es or managing to rebound any missed shots. Magpies’ Abbey Duncan was also a crea ve play maker in the goal circle. Tegan Merre was influen al for the Eagles at WA, her speed and quick and accurate passing into the goal circle impressive. Keston Green started the match well, shoo ng 10 for the quarter. Both teams’ defences were working over me, ge ng hands to plenty of balls. Kalangadoo’s finals experience showed at the start of the quarter, they se led quickly and took a 3 goal lead into the first break. The start of the second quarter saw Maddie Pulmer take a brilliant intercept, breaking Kalangadoo’s first centre pass. Kalangadoo broke back, applying huge amounts of pressure from one end of the court to the other. Chloe Pra at WD for the Magpies was having a tense and physical ba le with Tegan Merre . Green and Lacey Haines were gaining confidence in the goal circle for the Eagles, Green backing herself in and shoo ng from long range. Haines' speed was causing headaches for the Magpie defence line with Merre having the trust in Haines and shoo ng some fast passes into the Eagles GA. Maddie Pulmer and Maddie

Redman had a great quarter, slowly gaining the upper-hand on Russell and Duncan. Green con nued to pose a threat to the Magpies, shoo ng 11 for the quarter. Kalangadoo steadied late in the quarter, composing themselves and shoo ng with accuracy, while the Eagles missed a few late. The game was all ed up at half me, 31-31, Hatherleigh winning the quarter by 3. Neither side made any changes. The start of the third quarter saw Abbey Duncan start well, finding great space in the circle, rota ng and working beau fully with Russell. Kalangadoo's work rate appeared to increase this quarter and they forced Hatherleigh into making some errors. Hatherleigh’s centre Lara McGregor le the court about half way through the quarter, bringing Chelsea Galpin into the game. This seemed to unse le the Eagles slightly. Kalangadoo took advantage and started ge ng on top. Melissa Russell collided with Maddie Redman in a contest and le the court with a knee injury. Ebony McDiarmid replaced Russell for the remainder of the game. Kalangadoo finished the quarter strongly, piling on 19 goals, missing only 1 for the quarter. The Magpies took a 5 goal lead into the final break. The start of the final quarter saw both sides come out firing. Hatherleigh switched their defenders in Pulmer and Redman. This proved effec ve, both defenders ge ng touches early. Nerves began to play a part, both teams goalies missing a few goals early in the quarter. The last quarter was very physical, Pra , Peacock and Tegan Merre all pu ng their bodies on the line with Merre needing to come off for the blood rule. This again appeared to unse le the Eagles, with Kalangadoo taking advantage. Magpie defenders Croser and Pi were pu ng the Eagles goalies under immense pressure, however Green and Haines remained composed, shoo ng well un l the final siren. Hatherleigh outscored Kalangadoo in the final quarter, but thanks to their 5 goal lead at three quarter me, the Magpies came out on top by 3 goals and will advance to the Grand Final. Hatherleigh go into the preliminary final against Tantanoola, hoping for a win and another crack at the Magpies.

club notes

hatherleigh fooTball club notes Junior Colts: Unlucky last weekend to go down by 5 points. I thought the team played really well and were trying their best. We had mul ple forward entries but couldn't hit the scoreboard as much as we would of liked. Ollie Fitzgerald was a standout for us using his excellent skills around the ground. Chloe and Hannah Bellinger con nued their great form compe ng hard at every contest they were in, Charlie Sims fought hard all game and his tackling pressure was good. Brayden Chambers was solid down back rebounding the ball. Best players: Ollie Fitzgerald (Denton’s Sportspower), Chloe Bellinger (Millicent Toy Kingdom), Charlie Sims (Stumpy Nilsson), Hannah Bellinger (Peter Walters), Brayden Chambers (Ladies Commi ee Canteen). Senior Colts: The boys came up against a very slick and well drilled Robe ou it which

eventuated in going down by quite a margin. Ignoring the scoreboard, the boys gave it their all and even managed to score the first goal of the game. A er a tough week for the Kangaroo Inn boys, it was excep onally pleasing to see them give it a red hot crack doing themselves and their families proud. Cameron Atkinson and Joel Smith were all over the ground being hard in the contest, laying big tackles and ge ng the ball moving our way. Riley Shanks did what he has done all year, reading the ball and hi ng targets cleanly, as was Je Faulkner. Eli Kneen con nued his great form, playing a solid game in defence and rebounding the ball outside of the back 50. Jack Cassidy also had a great game, applying pressure to the dangerous forwards of Robe. We now look forward to taking on Tantanoola in the preliminary final and are looking for a be er result.

port macdonnell fooTball club notes B Grade: Finals is finally here, and a er some ups and downs throughout the season we finally get the business part of the season. A er a couple of good wins to round out the normal season, the Reserves head into the finals with some confidence. A er making all the hard decisions on Thursday night, everyone looked ready to go. Game day arrived and a very pleasant day greeted us at Mt Burr. When the boys hit the ground, they looked ready for business, and in the early stages of the first quarter, the boys had to absorb heaps of pressure from Kalangadoo, in a very ght arm wrestle, at the quarter me break we managed to hold a small lead. In the second quarter things opened up slightly in our favour and the lads kicked 5 goals to 2 to take a nice 45-point lead into the main break. In the third quarter things went back to a ght arm wrestle with both sides only kicking 2 goals each. In

the last quarter things freed up again, as we kicked 5 goals to Kalangadoo's 4 goals, to take out a well-earned victory to take us through to a preliminary final. Best for the week was Rhys Timms who has played some very good football throughout the year but not be er than this game. Second best was Tom Sullivan, another season campaigner who played a great finals game. Third best was Ben O'Dine, in what only can be described as a Ben O'Dine game. Fourth best was Lennox Lewis who has been most impressive since joining the team midseason. Fi h best was Peter Buchanan who has had an injury interrupted season but now we are star ng to see some of Peter's best form. This week we head to Kongorong to take on Robe who will be very keen to make up for their loss against Hatherleigh. With a grand final berth on the line this will be one of the biggest games of the year.

club notes

kongorong fooTball club notes A big welcome to all clubs par cipa ng in finals today, and a massive thank you to all of our club volunteers helping out today to make things run smoothly. The grounds commi ee have been busy preparing the oval, and the commi ee has everything in place for a successful day. Fingers crossed the weather is on our side, and a good crowd gathers to enjoy some compe ve footy and netball matches. Junior Colts: With the week off, everyone was keen to get back into playing footy again and with a short trip over the hill to Glencoe, the reigning premiers in the young Hatherleigh side were wai ng to ba le it out for a place in the Grand Final. With almost a full side to pick from everyone was keen with a mix of nervous energy to get things underway and with the games during the year going convincingly 1 each by good margins it was always going to be a tough ba le against the Eagles. Our line-up looked se led from the outset and evenly matched up around the ground and from the very first bounce it was a tough encounter. 2 goals each at half me meant we were in a ba le and to Hatherleigh's credit didn't allow us to get the ground opened up and running game going. in the 3rd quarter we had our fair share of the ball but just couldn't get the ball through the big s cks for a major and kept the Eagles in the game. The last quarter was probably the toughest quarter of junior footy we have watched for some me, with our backline weathering everything they had thrown at them and

some tough tackling in there to hold the game up. But to the en re team's credit they fought it out right to the siren (where I was finally able to take a breath again) to get the win and advance through to the big dance at Tantanoola in a couple of weeks. Tough day for best players as we didn't have many standouts as it was a real ba le, but best on ground and in his best game for the club across the half back flank was the ever reliable Harrison Elletson who received the Swallow Drive Meats Award. Second best and Rocks Shop Award went to our captain Kur s Lasle who played in mul ple posi ons and provided plenty of ball for others around him. The Rocks Tavern Award went to Nate Von Stanke-Dowie who as has done all year put his head over the ball and ba led against some much bigger opponents. Jobe Janeway took home the Mick Mullan Award for his work around the ground for the 4 quarters and taking some very mely marks late in the game. Lily Gordon another who thrives on the contest and never shys away has con nued her good form to receive the Coaches Award. The Angelino Family Award went to Rhys Newton who is a quiet achiever in the group but s ll provides plenty of run and influence around the ground. Now we wait to see the winner of Hatherleigh and Robe as we prepare over the next 2 weeks. Go Hawks! Reminder: Junior Presenta on Day on Sunday following the Grand Final. Senior Presenta on Night will be 9th October, commencing 4pm. Tickets available now from the club.

result we were going for. We showed we were able to play compe ve netball for the majority of the game but were unable to hold onto the leads we worked so hard to achieve. Our final quarter was where we let our season slip away with Tant taking advantage of our missed opportuni es, and with their accuracy, we had no chance of turnovers. Unfortunately, not being able to play 4 consistent quarters cost us a chance to advance to the preliminary final. Thanks to Simone, Heidi, Lauren, and Sophie for si ng for us in the final, Heidi for scoring for us all season, Tanya for being primary carer, and to all the parents and supporters who have helped us out with the various other du es throughout the season. Lynne Lambert – MBNC President: Firstly, I would like to thank all of the wonderful people that gave up their me in any way to help when we hosted the first semifinal. Your help is invaluable and very much appreciated. Congratula ons to the 13 and Under and 17 and Under teams for securing a place in the preliminary final, you have every opportunity to go that one step further and progress into the Grand Final. We wish you all the very best of luck. Bad luck to our A Grade girls, you fought hard un l the very end and made us all extremely proud. Congratula ons to all players that were recognised for their commitment and achievements at the league presenta ons. A special men on to Lisa Sco being awarded the 2021 Senior Umpire of the Year and Heidi Clark winning the league A Grade Best and Fairest and Senior Consistency Award. Senior Colts: On the 4th September we travelled all the way down to Glencoe and what a marvellous day for football it was. A win for either team would send them straight into the Grand Final. The Robe boys weren't going to leave anything to chance and were ready to fight tooth and nail. Hatherleigh presented with their best 18 players meaning we would play 16a-side with an extended bench for Robe. The game started with finals like intensity with both teams going in hard. Hatherleigh were first to draw blood with a goal and it looked like it was going to be a tough slog for both teams. As the first quarter went on, Robe gained control over the ball and finished the quarter with 3 goals to Hatherleigh's 1. In the second quarter the game well and truly opened up. The Robe midfield of George Du on, Jesse Robertson, Ollie Hagge and Ollie McInnes flexed their muscles and sent the ball inside 50 on mul ple occasions. Forwards Codee Weston, James Du on and Max Robertson were delivered some silver service with Max finishing with 8 goals for the

day. We piled on another 7 goals before heading into half me. With a healthy 63 point lead the Robe boys chucked it into the next gear in the 3rd quarter. The sun was really star ng to affect the players in the 3rd as they red. It was great to see the Robe boys actually wan ng a rest and coming to the bench absolutely spent. With 5-minute rota ons of our 6 players this provided a headache for the coaching staff but plenty of rest for the boys. We piled on another 6 goals for the quarter. In the last quarter, the s ng was well and truly out of the game. Never the less, the Robe boys persevered to make a spectacle for the crowd and slo ed through another 6 goals in the last. They showed elite foot skills, unselfish plays and team focus to finish off the game with 45 scoring shots and mul ple goal scorers. Overall, a dominant team performance from my boys. They now head into the big dance with plenty of confidence and ready for any challenge that lay ahead. We will see you at the big dance for the game of the year. Tom 'Woka' Wachtel

It was a great game to watch seeing the boys do things that we have been working on all year on the track but the Kongorong boys put up a good fight in the last quarter. Best was Will, Saxon, Braydn, Ashton, Cade and Ellis who kick 5 goals.

netball club notes B Grade: Another great game by everyone. We all worked hard and were desperate to book our way into the Prelim Final. Our defence were strong rebounding any missed shots and taking some great intercepts. Sal and Kath passed beau fully into the ring and were always there as an op on when needed. Our goalies have been great all year and kept this going for our 1st final. Prelim will be a tough match no ma er who we come up against but we have got the momentum coming into this match a er playing some strong matches so let’s keep playing a great team game and see if we can progress to the big one! A Grade: A very slow start by us in the 1st Semi saw us in a very close ba le all game long. I think the nerves set in which made us make some very silly errors. But we managed to pull away when it counted in the last quarter. A credit to Mount

Burr, who played tough all game long and pushed us to our limits. We would like to wish Heidi Clark a speedy recovery going forward. To our defensive efforts, great work! We all took some me to get that fire burning but the ps came from all of you and some excellent rebounding from Kate and Tay. Alex and Vic, you worked over me un l the very end and helped enormously in a ack. Vic and Casey, you two seem to be stuck on a string together, always knowing where each other are and although a ring a acking game, you played smart netball in that final quarter to steady the ball into the goalies. Em, another strong game - we don't see anything less. Such a target in our circle and we couldn't of asked for more. A very big team game that sees us in a trip to the prelim! Well done girls, definitely deserved. Best players were Vic Lucas and Em Gould.
