A Grade: With the wet and windy condi ons we knew it was going to be a tough day out at Kongorong. It took us a bit to warm up but we soon got the ball moving and adapted our skills to the weather condi ons. A er half me the boys were raring to go, scoring 10 goals in the third quarter. Some of the best players on the day were Lewy Walker, Will Chay, Brad Mitchell, Jack Gray and Tom Hutchesson. The boys are playing well together as a team which assisted the 147 point win. Another good job by everyone.
B Grade: We got our first taste of wet and cold football down at Kongorong. We were pre y lucky in the B Grade with only the last quarter being wet, with a very depleted side with 7 out from the week before, we had three colts step up and didn't they do a fantas c job coming away with a good win. It took us 10 minutes to get into the game and se le a bit but once we did we played some terrific football. Dyl Vanderhorst made a great return to footy. Bre Watson was just as dangerous in the middle. Finn played his best game since he has came over from Penola. Ethan Leopold has kept his good run of form in the
Tommy Bell gave us plenty of drive up around
Senior Colts: Last week we headed down to Kongorong in what looked like it was going to be a wet weather footy game. Although throughout most of the game the weather
held out for us and the skills were able to be quite good from both sides. The boys had a cracking game both offensively and defensively, winning the game by 46 points. Best players were hard to pick as everyone played their role and helped with the win. 5th best the Pete Walter's award went to Eli Sims having a cracking pressure game. 4th best the Ladies Commi ee award went to Fletcher Leopold in the ruck hardly losing a tap. 3rd the Gino’s Pizza award went to Archie Morgan star ng to play some really good footy wherever he is put on the field. 2nd best the Stumpy Award went to Aussie Ne le with another stellar performance through the middle, one of Hatherleigh’s best kicks by far using his disposal very efficiently. 1st best the Denton’s Sportspower award went to Oskar Howell, taking marks all over the ground and using his skills to help the boys win, also congratula ons to Oskar for debu ng in the A Grade! On to Kalangadoo today!
A Grade Coach: Al Lyon
B Grade Coach: Aidan Auld
in Chrissy Mules 350th game.
Not one to be in the limelight as Chrissy is always about team & club first and foremost, it's a huge achievement to reach 350 senior games plus the numerous games of representa ve football and premierships to go with.
Thanks goes to our junior game day sponsors Autocare Mt Gambier, Rarcoola Structural, The Rocks Shop, MT Wheels & 3MP as game day sponsors and weekly award sponsors in – The Roadhouse, Country A tude, Spot On, Bunnings, Aussie Disposals, Sorrento's, OK Pie Shop, KD's Deli, Intersport, Doughnut King, Wendy's, McDonalds, Compton Street Bakers Delight & Boost Juice Killara Food Court sponsoring our weekly Junior Club Encouragement award.
Under 11: With Mt Burr numbers light on it was a chance for all our underage players to get out and have a run around. With the handy rain over night the oval was a bit slippery but s ll made for some entertaining football. A huge thank you to our game day awards sponsors in Wendys, McDonalds, Doughnut King, Compton Street Bakers delight & Killara Food Court with the awards being shared around as everyone chipped and played their part. Junior Colts: A er a good win the week prior to Pt Mac, Macca was looking forward to the Junior Colts con nuing their good form of late up against an undermanned young Mozzies side. The 1st half proved a challenge for the Maggies as they looked to se le into the game instead of trying to play individual footy. With some firm words at the half me break, the Maggies managed to open the game up with the defence holding the Mozzies scoreless to end up with a 70-point margin. Well done to everyone that went across to play for Mt Burr & making sure we got a game in. Best players went to Lachy McCann –Spot On, Frank Mules – Bunnings, Koby Parker – OK Pie Shop, Jack Barry –Bakers Delight, Isaac Lindner – Coaches Award & Axel Reeves – Killara Food Court Encouragement award.
Senior Colts: Full credit to the top of the table Burr boys in making a real game of it last me out. With the bare minimum of numbers was always going to be a challenge but to both sides credit the game was played in good spirits and everyone looked to enjoy having a kick and catch. Full credit to the Junior Colts who are con nuing to play up each week and we can see the improvement that this is having on their football. Best
players went to Nato – The Roadhouse, Axe – Country A tude, Charlie Widdison – KD's Deli, Jack Barry – OK Pie Shop, Lachy McCann – Aussie Disposals.
Reserves: Having club legend Chrissy’s 350th game it gave Auldy’s boys some addi onal mo va on to play for. From the outset the Maggies jumped the Burr boys in the 1st qtr with some quality play and con nued to build on this over the 4 quarters to end up with a comfortable 48-point margin. There were some quality passages of play and Reevsey vying for Goal Of The Year with a couple of ripper goals. Best players went to Reevsey, Jimmy Brennan, Chrissy, Mitch Varcoe, Alex Carter & Starky
Seniors: Another hugely important game for the senior side as they look to con nue on the good mid-season run of form and keep in touch with the top 4. With the line up looking more solid each week, this has meant that the side has had me to se le in posi ons and really go to work. As with every game against the Burr they are never an easy task with both sides knowing the importance of the game and in that increasing their pressure on the ball carrier and around the contest. Kicking with the wind in the 1st qtr meant the Maggies were able to make good use of it although it was evident to see it was going to be a tough day and while had plenty of the ball defences on both sides were on top early. As the rain started to come down in the second the game really ghtened and with 2 important goals into the breeze meant we had a narrow 3-point margin at the main break. The 3rd qtr was a tough affair with the rain well and truly se led in and the wind dropping away meant the game was there for the taking. The Burr managed to kick a few consecu ve goals and with some strong forward pressure saw an important goal on the siren to Tye to even the scores at the final break. It was always going to be a dour affair in the last and the side to se le and handle the condi ons was going to prevail and with the 1st in the last meant the Maggies could build throughout the quarter kicking 3 goals to 1 in the last to come away with a ght 15-point victory. Best players went to Ethan Maney, Lachy Jones, Jus n Bromley, Robbie Hein, Jayk Norman & Jaggs Pra .
Heading to the wide open spaces of Hatherleigh next up will prove another challenge for the Maggies across the grades but one this writer is sure they will be up and about for and with a week off for the country champs am sure will throw everything at the top of the table
Junior Colts: A great first quarter Something we have been working on for a while, actually make that a great first half. The team is to be congratulated on their hard work at training and their a tude. At last their hard work has paid off. During the game their determina on at every contest, playing their role to the best of their ability, and being disciplined, by s cking to the team rules; resulted in them being able to sing our club song with great enthusiasm. Now the challenge is to repeat this performance in every game for the rest of the season; regardless of who is playing. Dylan and Byron played extremely well. On return from injury, Conrad supplied the link that we had been missing. Noah made the most of his move forward. Eli, Spencer, Reid, Jimmy and Boodah, did what was asked of them. To be honest, it was a total team effort. Now for Kongorong. Do yourselves a favour. Do not let yourselves down, give your best effort. You are in control of what happens. Have fun by doing what is expected of you.
Senior Colts: Sorry I missed last week’s notes but it was an impressive win over Tant and we were looking to take that forward in to our match against Glencoe... with the guys enthusiasm high before the game we looked good early but couldn't hit the score board and showed our opponents to much space as they pushed forward to score 6 goals for the quarter. The next two quarters went the same way with us winning plenty of the ball but being unable to finish it of on the scoreboard. To our credit though we fought it out and had the be er of the last stanza to score 3 goals and play the game out. Best were Archie, Nathan, Welty, Myles and Levi with the incen ves to Levi and Massimo. Also thanks to Steve's Place and Denton’s Sportspower for our weekly incen ves. Cheers Leroy
B Grade: We have been blessed with the weather this season so far, s ll for the reserves game it was dry with some light showers. This didn’t stop the lads from going to work and ge ng the job done. Tom Miller
rucked well all day, taking a lot out of the ruck himself and moving the ball forward. Ollie Benne ran up and down the wing providing that op on and linking up into the forward line. Sam and Dawson worked well down forward together providing plenty of op ons. The big birdman with help of Jed Regnier had construc ve talk across half back all day. The Hentschke brothers got a lot of football and were exci ng to watch in the last quarter both playing on the ball. New starter, Wil Langdon showed promising signs when he got around the footy. Into the second half of the year, we are playing some excellent footy that is very exci ng to watch. Really looking forward to seeing how the next 2 months pan out. Go Roosters!
A Grade: A er the first 3 grades had some great winter weather to play their games, the A Grade was treated to the first dose of wet weather footy for the season. This changed the style of game we were used to playing, but we adapted quickly to condi ons and controlled the game from the first bounce. Our skipper Henry Lawrie relished the hard slog, running in straight lines and ge ng the ball long forward. George Du on and Coach Brown played the game as if the ball was dry, picking up kicks and crea ng space with their run and accurate disposal. Kane Dunn also relished the condi ons kicking a couple and playing his defensive forward role to a tee. Sam Bates and Joely B were also fantas c up forward. Our back 6 were also solid again. Tyler Thomson, Jesse Robbo, Jordan Pe t and Jack Sneath were all excellent, working together and making life hard for the Glencoe forwards. Jacko made the most of his 20 minutes up forward bagging a couple as well. Thanks to Jeddy R and Flynn Peel for stepping up as well. Both these blokes looked right at home in the late game and slo ed in beau fully See you all at Robe on Saturday! Get up to the new shed and our massive new fire drum and get right behind the Roosters at home!
The rain finally joined us as we hosted Hatherleigh at home. A wet day certainly made it a more challenging task to get some wins on the board. Write ups and awards as follows.
Under 11: The young Hawks played their first wet game of the season. They came up against a strong & skilled Hatherleigh team. They all played a strong defensive game, but s ll managed to kick the odd goal to keep their spirits up. Awards: Archie Gillin (Intersport), Jack McKenzie (Presidents Award), Mac Brant (Coaches Award), Bill Ellis (Club Voucher), Huey Harding (Brant Family Award) and Judd Buntsma (Donut King). Auskick was played at half me in very wet and cold condi ons and they loved it. Plenty of goals were kicked and they all got plenty of the ball. Awards: Max von Stanke (Club Award) & Hudson Howard (Club Award).
Junior Colts: The Junior Colts had a tough day against top of the ladder side in Hatherleigh. But the kids tried their best all game, and that's all a coach can ask. I've been trying to teach the kids to use kicking only and maintain possession when moving from defence going forward. It's always good to see when you teach them something, and they do it on Saturday. We just fell short on the last kick going into our 50. But they can only get be er if we just keep working on the basics at training and pu ng it into prac ce on Saturdays. Awards went to Angus Maidment (Lucas Family Award), Connor Gordon (Spot On Fishing), Koby Galloway (Aussie Disposals), Lola Geddes (Janeway Plumbing Award), Sam McInnes (Club Voucher) and Zavier Hunt (Paradise Pizza).
Senior Colts: In a similar situa on to our previous game, we began round 11 below the standard we have set for ourselves and had it not been for some strong individual efforts in defence we would have been looking at a sizeable deficit at quarter me. Once again we responded a er the first break and had some moments where we moved the ball well by foot and demonstrated our ability to play a mature brand of football. Some excellent individual efforts saw us hit the scoreboard and we entered the main break within reach of our opponents. The third quarter saw us lose our shape around stoppages, ge ng soundly beaten at clearances, par cularly centre clearance. Two
early goals against and playing most of the quarter in our back half put the game out of reach at three quarter me. Our lads con nued to play out the game in the last but the damage had been done and we once again need to go to work on stoppage cra and contest work. Awards went to Ryan Lucas (Ma hew’s Petroleum), Ma hew Aarts (MT Wheels), Kain Ashby (DA’Leni Meats), Cohen Galpin (Mick Mullan Award), Jackson Bald (Badenochs Deli) and Ryan O’Donnell (Coaches Award).
B Grade: Another week of mul ple changes for us but some real special moments for us to have experienced together. We were really proud to have Blake and dad, Jus n Telford play their first game together. Also Michael ‘Rock’ Hillstone and his son Jai play their first game together. It was also Jai’s first senior game and he played an outstanding game. As did all six of our senior colts. Special men on also to Heath McShane who dusted off the boots and showed he can s ll find the ball. Hatherleigh are a polished ou it and deserved the win, but our boys stuck to the task well and con nued to show some great signs for the future. Shaun Beard, Michael Waters, Wayne A will, Alex Forman, Jack Wilson and Paul Ellis took out the awards. As always thanks to BCF, Collins Court Butchers, The Commercial Hotel, Pick Avenue Deli and the club for sponsoring the awards.
A Grade: The boys started quite well in wet, slippery condi ons especially young Will von Stanke running and crea ng well out on the wing. The second quarter, Hatherleigh started to put a few on the board but our boys kept figh ng hard. A er half me our boys really let themselves down and let Hatherleigh kick 10 for the quarter To the boys credit they didn't lay down in the last and fought hard to hold Hatherleigh and not let the flood gates open, which they could have quite easily done. Another tough one this week but hopefully we can get a few back in the side of our 14 outs. Awards went to Brayden Leicester (Commercial Hotel), Ethan Norman (Collins Court Butcher), Will von Stanke (Club Tea), Sjaakie Duivenvoorde (Club Tea), Corben O’Dea (BCF) and Brad Long (Pick Ave Deli).
Junior Colts: The boys played with a lot of heart last week. The scoreboard might've been 10+ goals but it didn't feel like that. We took it to them for 4 quarters and they truly had to earn every goal. Best players were Reed who gave effort a er effort, Mostyn who killed it down back and our newest recruit Jimmy who looked great in the ruck and in Mozzie colours. Noah another debutant played unreal and so did his younger brother. Good luck to Kalangadoo for the rest of the year
Senior Colts: A big shout out last week to the boys from Kalangadoo and our own senior colts boys who worked together extremely well to ensure we had a quality game of football take place. The warm up was held together, the game played in great spirits and always nice to see the lads from both sides doing what they do best and enjoying their football. Well done to all involved.
B Grade: Kalangadoo at Kalangadoo is always one of the toughest games each season and Saturday was no different. With 7 players out from last week’s team, for the second me only this year we needed to call upon a couple of Senior Colt boys. As it turned out our only goal in the first half came when Cambell Hateley marked, played on and found Max Hunt alone in the goal square. The half me score was 8 goals to 1 and it looked like we had taken a step back from the footy we had been playing over the past month. To the boys credit they responded well in the second half and managed to s ck
close to the more experienced Kalangadoo side. In quarters 3 and 4, we kicked 5 goals to add a li le respectability to the score. Best players were Je Bowering, Braeden Thwaites, Max Hunt, Harry Corman, Cambell Hateley and first game player, Sam Clark.
A Grade: Although we didn’t come away with the four points I am happy with the way we fought it out un l the end. A highly pressured, hard fought contested ba le by both sides made it exci ng for all to watch. We started reasonably well winning our fair share of the footy and ge ng plenty of entries but just couldn’t find a way to score. We were able to maintain our pressure making it hard for Kdoo to score and found a way to keep ge ng the ball moving our way. Wet slippery condi ons meant we had to simplify what we did when we had control of the ball. We gained momentum and used that to keep driving the ball forward which created scoring opportuni es for us. A tough slog right to the end is pleasing to see, and should give us the confidence that we can be super compe ve for long periods of me.
Well we were finally blessed with some winter weather last Saturday at home against the Bay! The day ended with both clubs ge ng 2 wins for the day, and the supporters were able to witness some excep onal footy played in both junior and senior games.
A big thank you to the sponsors commi ee for pu ng on a big show Saturday, it was well a ended and the day ran smoothly. A very big thanks to all of this year's sponsors whether they were major, game day or auc on your support is always appreciated.
Thanks goes to this week's sponsor's Gildera Forestry Services and Grigg Plumbing. Both sponsors have strong community links to our club and understand that all clubs relies heavily on sponsorship. Under 11: It was a cold start at Nangwarry for the young Saints. Their reading of the play is star ng to click. They looked for the open space, delivered the ball with accuracy and held their marks. All their efforts at training is star ng to show
Junior Colts: Great win by our under 14s last week taking on a top 2 Port Mac. We hit the scoreboard early and managed to keep them scoreless in the first quarter. For the remainder of the game it was pre y ght tussle only leading the 2nd and 3rd quarters by 2 goals. Really proud of our group the way they've stood up for 4 quarters we kept the pressure right up and never stopped a acking all game.
Senior Colts: Last week we came up against a very strong Port Mac team in cold but reasonably dry condi ons considering the rain the night before. A er a solid start and ge ng plenty of opportuni es but only kicking 2 goals things were looking ok but 2 goals to Port Mac evened things up at quarter me. A er that goals were at an absolutely premium in another low scoring, hard fought game of football we ended up falling short, Nangwarry 3-10 to Port Mac 4-6 by 2 points. Goal kickers were Bay McKinnon 1, Benne Moy 1 and Harry Hicks 1. Award winners for the day were Harry Hicks with the Fasta Pasta, Archer Virtanen the Pines Hotel, Bay McKinnon and Ollie Capewell the OK Pie Shop, Cooper Harris and Jagger Geary Nangwarry canteen and Taj Bell Limestone Coast Pantry award. Other be er players were Benne Moy and Tayte Virtanen. Full credit to Port MacDonnell to have won 2 close games against us this season. Both games have been of an excep onal high standard of football played in the right spirits featuring a lot of players who will be the future of MSEFL A Grade in the coming years. It is just an absolute disgrace to see that we s ll have to put up with some parents and adults who should know be er but s ll see it is their right to abuse
volunteers a er a junior game of football! Hopefully one day we won't see this at local football! We will bounce back this week on the training track and look forward to tes ng ourselves against the top of the ladder Mt Burr again.
B Grade: Was a great game by our lads, we went into the game undermanned and had a few late changes leading up to the game so for the boys to dig deep and get a 40 point win over Pt. Mac was awesome. The way we played and moved the footy was very good to see and exci ng to see knowing we s ll have up to 6 to come back in. Unfortunately we got a few injuries through the game so hopefully all those lads recover well, playing Mount Burr this week so hopefully we can get another win on the board.
A Grade: We had our first taste of winter football for the year but fortunately as always our oval relished in the wet condi ons. A couple of late outs had us juggling the magnets, although not ideal, I commend the boys that accepted the challenge to play at the top level at late no ce. We started the game well, in fact pu ng in our best first quarter for the season against quality opposi on. We had a really good connect right through from defence to forward. Our transi on was really good, our defence were structured well and we had the lead going into the first break. Second quarter Port MacDonnell got on top of us and were able to open up and find uncontested possessions across the ground and were able to hit the scoreboard regularly. We allowed too many goals from close range stoppages and know that's an area we need to improve. The third quarter was compe ve and pre y even going inside 50. We were able to hit the scoreboard again kicking three majors to the Demons 5. In the last quarter Port MacDonnell con nued to run out the game kicking 6 goals to our 1. A mixture of fundamental errors and the Demons’ run late unfortunately blew out the scoreboard and probably not to a true reflec on on the game. Goal kickers for the day were Andy Hyland 3, and singles to Ty Dinnison, Calais Borman and Blake Neshoda. Best players: Club Tea Award - George McWaters, Pines Hotel Award - Joel Virtanen, Jens Hotel Award - Jack Pudney, Car Spa Award - Isaac Raymond, Fasta Pasta - Blake Neshoda, San Piero Award - Ty Dinnison.
A big congratula ons to Chappo on playing your 150th game. A milestone well deserved mate. We respect the work you do for our club both on and off the field and we are very fortunate to have you as a Saint.
Thank you to all our wonderful sponsors, we hope you enjoyed your sponsor's day and well really appreciate your support and well aware our club can't func on without you.
Today we welcome Glencoe and the Von Duve family as our A Grade teams play for the Neil Von Duve Memorial Trophy. Neil was a valued player for both our clubs both on and off the field and we are honoured to play in his memory

Junior Colts: Last round in the juniors we travelled to Robe. It was a ba le all day with Robe kicking the first goal and our boys inaccurate kicking which led to us kicking 5 points, with hard effort our kids never backed down and never dropped their head. With the game on the line and a mark inside 50 the hero of the day Jack Rowe kicked a goal a er the siren to win the game. Best players Jack Rowe who played a new role on the wing and showed fight and run
all day, Jayden Hunter who con nues to dominate week in and week out, Summer Batchelor, Kobe Bromley, Kaiden Shawyer who took a massive hit and got back up and kept going and Marcus Forrest.
Senior Colts: Last round we headed to Robe, a er a good training Thursday night we thought we could win this but a slow first half cost us, with a couple injuries early and Robe working a lot harder than us it wasn't a very good day with us losing by 60 points. Our goal kickers for the day where Ryan Long who kicked 2, Ash Foulds and Brayden Rowe both kicking one. Our best players were Brayden Rowe, Jake Bevan, Sam Simmons, Jedd Hardingham and Ryan Long.
Reserves: Last round in the B Grade we headed to Robe. We were undermanned and came up against a fit well drilled Robe team. To the boys credit they ba led hard across the 4 quarters but just couldn't match it. We had good patches during each quarter but patches don't win games of footy Best players were Marky Bell, Liam, Aaron, Bommer and Batchy
A Grade: Another tough week against a very good side. Unfortunately we started really slow and allowed Robe to get on top early. The young inexperienced group were facing a tough ba le but they never gave up and slowly got on top at mes just unfortunately couldn't make the most of it on the scoreboard. Keep pu ng the effort in boys, might feel like nothing is going our way but we aren't going to be down for much longer. Best players Troy Ha , Zane Walker, Ethan Bowman, Cade Kelly, Jack Dawe.

We welcomed Robe to a tradi on Saturday in June, perfect for footy just a touch wet. Thinking the rain would stay away we had perfect weather for three games of footy before the seniors and then came the heavy rain to make it a slog in the mud.
Thanks to Jack and his crew for ensuring Miss Glencoe was a success. Some beau ful ladies showcasing their talents made for compelling viewing. Top marks to Ben (Bethany) for nearly perfect scores across all categories. A er a controversial finish the Dash for Cash is due for a rerun later in the year
Under 11: Bo has his troops really improving and ge ng be er each week, great to see the development con nuing from the start to where they are now. Keep it up.
Junior Colts: We took on Robe a er bea ng them at their home ground in a ght game we knew we had to switch on early. Unfortunately, we gave them a head start before we flicked the switch and got going. Annabelle led from the front and played her best game, Harrison and Lachy tried all game and Mason and Hamish both kicked two each.
Senior Colts: We came up against an improved Robe team, we started strongly, kicking six in the first quarter, owning the ball the whole term playing team footy and not giving Robe a sniff. We were able to throw a few players in different posi ons to give them a different opportunity. Best players were Sam kicking 5, Max, Jed and Tyrone, Digby and Connor who played his best game for the
year
B Grade: We could be a very good team if everyone was available but it seems players are in and out, mostly out each week. This saw us lean on the Senior Colts heavily, thank you. Best for the day were captain Jason, Tom, Isaac, Dylan (Des ny) and very reliable Trent. We are in the top four come to training fellas and push into September.
Seniors: Coming up against Robe we wanted to bring effort and work for each other all day. The first quarter the rain started and we missed crucial opportuni es before le ng Robe in and slo ng six unanswered goals. Second quarter we once again failed to score a goal missing more shots on goal, we thought we were in the game although being down by 8 goals we were applying pressure right across the oval. Third term was three goals apiece with a nice goal from Harry firing the boys up along with our pressure around the contest li ing. Last term Ma kicked a couple beau ful goals finishing with three for the day showing his talent, we lost by 57 points at the end of the day with the effort there but just need to put it together for four quarters. A special men on to Henry who sold the slowest candy ever. Best was Harry playing his best game for the club, Ma who slo ed three and had a big day, Will down back in a physical match up, Ben and Jack in the middle and Zacc rounded it out.
We traverse Mile Hill this week as we look to have for a few wins before a couple of weeks off to freshen up.
