dane paproth
Dane Paproth will today play his 150th A Grade game for Glencoe which takes his tally of senior matches for the club to 180. Dane or “Dorpa” as he is affec onately known, started with the Murphy Junior Colts in 2000, progressing through the Senior Colts captaining this team in 2006. He made his A Grade debut the same year in 2006. He has played mostly in the ruck and has also spent me as a tall marking forward who has a sure pair of hands. A er spending the 2012 season away working in Darwin, Dane returned to Glencoe the following season and had one of his best seasons playing up forward boo ng 37 goals. He is a fantas c club person and has been a leader in organising many of the social events held for his beloved Murphies. All at Glencoe congratulate Dane on his milestone and wish him the very best for today and the rest of the season.

jack gregory
This weekend Jack Gregory will play his 150th A Grade game for Mount Burr having joined the Mozzies in 2011 from Tantanoola where he won 3 league goal kicking awards as a junior. Jack won his first MSE A Grade goal kicking award and completed the season with his first A Grade premiership. In 2012 he was runner-up to teammate Chris Murray in the league goal kicking and played in the grand final loss. Jack played in the 2015 and 17 premierships winning his 2nd league goal kicking award in 2017 but missed the 2016 flag when he returned to Tantanoola for a season. With 491 goals in his 149 games so far including a best of 17 against Nangwarry, Jack would be hoping to bring up his 500th goal before the season is complete. Congratula ons Jack on 150 games. Career highlights: • 3 x A Grade Premierships (2011, 15, 17) • 2 x A Grade Runner-Up (2012, 18) • 2 x MSE A Grade Leading Goal Kicker (2011, 17) • 2 x 2nd MSE A Grade Leading Goal Kicker (2012, 18) • 2 x 3rd MSE A Grade Leading Goal Kicker (2015, 19)

SENIOR games
tom bell
In round 13 Tom Bell played his 100th senior game for the Hatherleigh Eagles. “Rural” has been a key member of both the A and B grade sides over a number of years. Playing as a hard working centre half forward, he took mul ple chest marks in both the 2013 A Grade premiership and the 2019 Reserves premiership seasons. This year he is the co-captain of the Reserves side, where he always leads from the front. His ability to mo vate his teammates during pre-game warm-ups is something that has really stood out this year. Tom is cheered on every week by his wife Lucy and daughter Harriet. From everyone at the Hatherleigh Football and Netball Club we would like to congratulate Rural on cracking the tonne!

VIEW FROM THE HILL Well, hasn't COVID raised its ugly head and made a mess of the 2021 season? Just as we were looking forward to an exci ng run to the finals the State went into a 7-day lockdown followed by no compe ve sport being permi ed once given the all clear to at least leave the house. Whilst acknowledging that I don't have all the SA Health informa on available for me to be able to make a ra onale decision, common sense has served me well up to this point, and a li le now wouldn't go astray! It really beggars' belief that we can have full contact sport between 40 odd par cipants in four games across the day but we can't have spectators, socially distanced in the freezing open air or in their own cars and wearing the new fashionable face apparel (masks) at the footy in a region that has none, zero, zilch community transmission of this horrible disease? At the me of wri ng, I haven't been privy to what is going to become of rounds 14 and 15, suffice to say with the news that the grand final date is unlikely to change, it doesn't take a rocket scien st to work out that at least one round of matches will have to be abandoned. Perhaps the only shining light to all this was that the weather over the past couple of Saturday's has been cold, wet and horrible and I'm probably not the only one that was thankful not to have to go out in it. Our last round of football was played on the 17th July, and another cold wet and windy day greeted teams, leading to rela vely low scoring affairs due to the condi ons. The wind and rain made for scrappy football, but there were glimpses of brilliance once players adjusted to the condi ons. At Kalangadoo, Tantanoola won the toss and kicked with a 3-4 goal breeze and made the most of a dry ball to have their noses in front by 9pts at quarter me. Kalangadoo in the second quarter were able to score freely with the breeze at their backs, while for Tantanoola it was an uphill ba le just trying to get the ball forward. At the long break it was the home side in front by 35pts. A er half me the experience and class of Kalangadoo shone through and they were able to open the game up to come away with 10 goal win. Elusive Kalangadoo forward Michael Krieger finished the day with 5 goals to keep top of the goal kicking leader board, Ben Gregory 3, Ben Mules, Tye & Sam McManus each recording 2. Be er players named for the 'Doo was young gun Tye McManus, Jus n Bromley, Andrew Stone, Tom Williams, Gregory and Krieger. For the visitors Jak Ryan con nues to be their focal point up forward with 3 goals and Jayden Reilly with 2. Best players for Tantanoola went the way of Ma Sorella, Reilly, Alec Roberts, Darcy Pink, and Braydn Reilly. By all reports the hot showers at the end of the day were very much appreciated a er a cold and miserable game, well for Kalangadoo they were at least! Down the road at Glencoe and the home side definitely had to work hard for the win against a much-improved Nangwarry. The home sides chances weren't aided by more outs than ins during the week, but you can only play against the side against you on the day. Nangwarry won the toss and rightly so kicked with the breeze. They made the most of the dry ball and a er the ini al scrappy five minutes were able to find the big s cks, kicking the first two goals of the match. A deathly silence overcame the Glencoe stubby shed as the Murphies were on the back foot, chasing black, red and white jumpers. It was hard contested footy early, with Glencoe made to earn every possession. At quarter me Glencoe had overcame their slow start to lead 4-4 to 2-1. The weather condi ons were atrocious, making any clean possession impossible. Glencoe were making the most of the breeze at their backs and ge ng the ball forward any way they could. Carey Megaw off the half back was making life difficult for his Nangwarry opponents, intercep ng a number of their forward entries. Big 'Sauce' Alex Hentschke made marking look
easy in the condi ons, but his kicking for goal at mes let him down. At half me the home side was well ahead 12-7 to 3-2. A er half me Nangwarry li ed their intensity and work rate and although they outscored Glencoe in both quarters the half me margin was too great to overcome, finally going down by 47pts. Nangwarry's final score of 11-5 was their best score for the year, and augurs well for the weeks ahead. Glencoe's Alex Hentschke finished the day with 5 goals, but could've been 8 or 9, Niall Easterbrook, backing up from Reserves contributed a handy 3 along with Robbie Smith and Dylan Childs 2. Ben Hentschke picked up Glencoe's best player for an everywhere game, just about playing every posi on on the ground. Childs once again showed his class to pick up the Phil Muhovics Memorial Medal and Glencoe's 2nd best with other be er players named being Dane Paproth, Pa y Mitchell, Alex Hentschke and Trent Hawke (another ressie's player to play his second game for the day). For Nangwarry coach Luke Thomson led the way with 6 and Jake McKeon 2. Nangwarry's best was by far their big man in George McWaters, 2nd best went to coach Luke Thomson who led by example, followed by Tom Vanderhorst, Ryan Zerk, Joel Virtanen, and Sam Shaw. Further south at Kongorong they hosted Hatherleigh with both sides far from full strength. Looking at the scorecard, hard to say if there was any wind advantage as Kongorong had trouble scoring at either end of the ground, whilst for Hatherleigh they were a model of consistency, maybe ring in the last as this was their lowest scoring quarter for the day. By three quarter me the visitors had kicked 11-5 to Kongorong's 1-4 and it was a far cry from their round 4 clash earlier in the year. The game was all Hatherleigh as they went about their business in a very workmanlike fashion and set up their win with effec ve ball movement in a dominant display. Jed Telfer led the goal kicking for the winners with 6, with Joe Ferguson-Lane and Jake Dowdy pos ng 2 each. Young Will Chay picked up BOG honours followed by Joe Rayson, Jase Bateman, Jack Gray, Cameron Slape and Telfer. For the home side late recruit Carl Slape was their only mul ple goal scorer with 3. For Kongorong Harry Evans picked up another BOG award and his partner in crime Ma Cordy named 2nd best. Other be er players for the Hawks were Bryn Weaver, Michael Waters and Corben O'Dea. It was a very similar scorecard at Port MacDonnell where Mt Burr scored the unluckiest des na on of the round. The home side accustomed to the condi ons were able to score at both ends of the ground, whereas for Mt Burr just ge ng the ball forward of centre was a mammoth task. Port MacDonnell's depth has well and truly been tested in recent weeks as they con nue to ba le injuries, but with a few players star ng to get back, it won't be long un l the headaches will begin at the selec on table. Their second- er players who started the season in the ressies have really stepped up and the side overall has rarely missed a beat. Mal Lewis was the home sides leading scorer with 3, followed by Kev Thomson and Dylan Bromley with 2. Kev will be well pleased that the match day paperwork finally showed up so that the League could correct the goal kicking ladder as in previous encounters the home side got it wrong with entering the results, awarding his goals to the wrong player! Mark Smith was the home sides best player with Tim Sullivan, Ned Wilke, Jake Schleter, Zach Williams and coach Sco Merre named best for the winners. For Mt Burr, no mul ple goal kickers where they could only score 3-6 for the day. Likewise for best players only three named being Taylor Allen, Josh Wallis and Andrew Ridley. The Burr Boys might have been the only ones pleased with lockdown, as coach Reece Duncan might've had a tough week pencilled in! We skip a couple of rounds and look towards the
round 16 fixture this week and a couple of cracker jack games on the cards. Just how much match fitness has been lost by teams over the past 2 weeks will be an interes ng side line. In the first match Robe host Kalangadoo. Now Robe haven't actually played since the 3rd of July – a massive 4 weeks ago and now come up against the undefeated ladder leader in Kalangadoo. With no recent form to go by, the only key advantage for Robe is that it will be played on their home deck. Robe need the win to keep second spot and keep their double chance hope alive, but they s ll might be there tonight if Port MacDonnell can't overcome Hatherleigh at home. You would expect both teams to be near full strength given the couple of weeks break, but game plan execu on could be a li le rusty. Kalangadoo have winners right across the ground, I'm not sure that Robe have the capability of being able to blanket the en re Kdoo team, but won't be surprised either if Kalangadoo are given the defeat they need to have prior to finals. In the other top of the table clash, Hatherleigh host Port MacDonnell and another game that really could go either way. Given the two-week break there is the possibility of both sides having the ability to welcome some returning players from injuries, with both teams wan ng to get some much-needed match prac ce heading towards the pointy end of the season. Trying to predict line-ups and outcomes is about as easy as picking the Melbourne Cup winner, so many varia ons that could play out. Hatherleigh are probably just behind the eight-ball at the moment with injuries, whilst for Port MacDonnell they are star ng to get back to near full strength at the right me of the year. Port MacDonnell's double chance odds really hinge on winning today's game and then again next week against Robe. To make things a li le easier a good win today may just about cement the spot. Kongorong and Glencoe ba le it out at the other end of the ladder with just pride on the line. Both sides would be a li le disappointed with their respec ve seasons. Kongorong have reportedly milked the cash cow, stripped bare the money tree, all for what? Sixth, maybe seventh on the ladder? Glencoe on the other hand, whilst having their fair share of injuries during the year, just weren't at the same level that saw them contest the 2019 grand final. Losing key posi on players didn't help their cause and they just don't have the ca le on the park to be compe ve against the top sides of the compe on. This game is very much a winnable game for both sides and should be a ripper, if only spectators could a end. Both sides mix their form from week to week, just which team comes out with the desire and commitment to win will do just that. Our last game of the round is at Nangwarry who will host Mt Burr. Mt Burr's last game at Port MacDonnell was a dour affair in maybe the worst condi ons seen this year. Mt Burr will be very pleased to be playing on the best wet weather oval in the league and their young running brigade will be chomping at the bit to get their running game going. Nangwarry were very compe ve against Glencoe in their last game, and they need to bring the same intensity and work rate to this game and again prove to us all and importantly themselves that they can be a compe ve side in the compe on. Mt Burr are s ll an outside chance of making the four if they can win well here and other results go their way. They would then need to overcome Hatherleigh next week to pinch 4th spot – not out of the realms of possibility. With so many great matches across our league in the next couple of weeks, lets hope that the brains trust in their ivory towers overlooking North Terrace con nue to li restric ons and reward all South Australians for their con nued efforts by allowing us to a end our local footy.

Junior Colts: We hard a hard task of taking on the undefeated team in the comp. I stressed to the team that if we were wan ng to finish in the top 2 this was a must win. We started really well kicking the first goal of the game but as we expected Hatherleigh came back at us. The rest of the game was controlled by us with our pressure and surging the ball forward a tude contribu ng to a 4 goal win on our behalf. A few special men ons to Conner and Myles who were extremely important across the half back line. Our midfield as per usual helped us propel numerous forward a acks which in the end contributed us to kicking a winning score. We now have two weeks off which will give us an opportunity to work on a few things and also prepare for the back end of the season. This group now has the confidence that we are good enough to match it with anyone which makes us even more of a threat. Cheers, Jack. Senior Colts: We were back on the road and headed to our close town rival, Hatherleigh. The trip from Robe showed that it was going to be a wet and scrappy day of football. The oval had plenty of mud patches to get stuck in with a few days of rain on it. With a healthy side of 20 we went into the game ready for a tussle. This also made it difficult to pick a side, which is a good problem to have. Hatherleigh have had a few injuring and came with 17 meaning we would have to play 16 a side on the field. From the first bounce it was clear that whatever team was cleanest would take the chocolates. The Robe boys hustled hard around the ball and sent it into the forward 50 on mul ple occasions. Codee Weston looked dangerous forward and a racted a double team early. Hatherleigh were set up well behind the ball making it tricky to get a good look at goals. We went into the quarter break 18 points up and kicking an inaccurate 7 points. In the second quarter, both teams came out to hunt the football and it was clear the inaccuracy in front of goals would cease. The Robe midfield brigade of George Du on, Mason Keane Ethan Cornish, Ollie Hagge and Flynn Peel linked up well to send the ball inside 50 on mul ple occasions. The Robe forwards looked threatening! Max Robertson demanded the hot spot and led out hard all day, teaming up with Codee on mul ple occasions. We piled on another 5 goals for the quarter and Hatherleigh managed to sneak one in a er the siren with a barrel from

outside 50. We went into half me 43 points up. In the 3rd quarter the game really broke open and so did the weather! There was hail and strong rain as players shivered and juggled the slippery football. With a move from the midfield to forward, Ethan Cornish came alive and kicked 5 goals in the second half. As always, he used his pace and burned the opponent on mul ple occasions. We piled on another 5 goals for the quarter to give us a 76-point lead. To Hatherleigh's credit they ba led hard all day and applied pressure where possible. The Robe boys finished off strong and weren't looking to slow down. Leader, Jay lines was brilliant in centre half back and rebounded with blistering pace. He led from the front with his voice and a ack on the ball. He also laid one of the biggest blocks I have seen, which the Hatherleigh group were not too impressed with. Ollie McInnes worked well alongside Jay, cu ng of Hatherleigh's forward entries with intercept marks. We came away with a 108-point win! A Grade: There was an atmosphere of an cipa on at Hatherleigh where third were to play fourth which could have a bearing on the final composi on of the final four. The weather was cold with intermi ent showers however while parts of the oval were boggy the majority of the oval was in good nick. The rain stayed away in the first quarter however the slippery condi ons resulted in ght hard football with both defences on top. Robe’s forward line with Dickinson, Deane and Laurie looked the most dangerous however they could not capitalise on their opportuni es. Robe led by a goal at quarter me. Robe opened up the game on the second quarter but could not find the big s cks. Had they the match may well have been over at half me. At the half Robe led 7.10 to the Eagles 3.2. The third quarter turned into an arm wrestle with Robe’s inaccuracy in front of goal star ng to hurt them. The Eagles however managed to convert their few opportuni es which was keeping them in the match. At three quarter me Robe’s lead had been reduced to two goals and the scene was set for a great last quarter. The Eagles got out of the blocks early but could not score as Robe’s defences held firm. Robe managed a couple of goals to steady the ship and ran out winners by 26 points. Calcu a Bill Lawrie, Jordan Hentschke and Jed Jarre .

Round 13 saw us host Tantanoola in arguably the worst condi ons in a couple of years. 3 inches of rain throughout the week made for wet, muddy and contested games across the 4 grades. Our oval held up well considering the amount of rain in a small period of me. Under 11: Again we had strong numbers in the under 11s. From all reports it was the best the kids have played all season, they played an a acking style of footy and it was great to see. Under 11s/Auskick will again be played the weekend at home, with Under 11s kicking off at 9 and Auskick at half me of the A grade. It is ge ng bigger and be er week by week! Keep up the hard work Tys and Boxy! Under 14: We came up against a much bigger team last game. Our kids were very undersized, however that didn't stop their endeavour, hard work and enjoyment towards the game. It's important we con nue to grow as a young group and listen to coach Searlo. The improvement has come at a fast rate. Nathaniel Cooper walked off with B.O.G. honours with a huge effort on the ball all game! Under 17: The improvement in this group both as players on the field and young men off the field has been a delight to see over the past year and a half! We have got a really good group of kids together. Unfortunately things didn't go to plan against Tant. But like the juniors, with sustained hardwork and dedica on the development will shine 2nd qtr

through in years to come when they are playing senior football! Connor Gen lie was awarded best player. Keep working hard boys, the results will come! Reserves: The boys have well and truly turned the corner and are star ng to play great footy as a team. Wet and wild weather suited our style of play and Kalangadoo played the home deck well. We ran out victors by a comfortable 30 points. Fuzzy was again named BOG and is having a sensa onal season. Seniors: A 68 point win doesn't reflect the game, Tant played really well and we ran away with the game late in the last quarter. A strong southerly breeze favoured the Penola end all day and 90% of the days goals were kicked that end. Tant kicked 4 in the 1st quarter and gave us a bit of a shock. The boys kicked 8-0 in the 2nd and controlled the game from there on. Tye was named BOG. Well done to Banno on playing his 200th game, a truly great effort for our club. Club legend and favourite son Chrissy Mules is set to play his 300th game this week. A truly inspira onal and great effort. To play 300 games in the vein that you have Chris is amazing. Always at the bo om of every pack and feeding the ball out to our smaller runners. On behalf of the Kalangadoo Football Club, congratula ons and go well mate. Go Maggies!

A er the week’s break we were fortunate to have a 'reasonable' day weather wise, as compared to the forecast. We welcomed Hatherleigh for the Think Road Safety Round, where our Harry Evans received the Best Player from Hatherleigh bench, and Joseph Rayson best player for Hatherleigh, as awarded by Kongorong bench. We also supported the Beyond Blue organisa on in memory of those we have lost, and the South East Animal Welfare League in honour of #7 Wes. Over $1000 was raised through dona ons, etc on the gate and a pile of dog and cat food, which will make its way out to Penola Rd this coming week. Minis/Auskickers: Thanks heaps to Ma and the Hatherleigh kids for such a great game. I know my kids (even myself) have been wai ng to play them a er how much fun we had at Hatherleigh first me round. This me it was at our home and we lost the paper/scissors/rock so we kicked into the wind twice but that didn't stop the kids in what I think was their best team game for the year. Angus Maidment and Connor Gordon were our best, with my boy Aus n Bowering sneaking a goal and constantly improving, just needs a bit more confidence. Tyler George was back to normal a er a quiet one last game and kicking his first goal. Mitch Bowering smothered, tackled and chased, always targe ng the biggest kid on the other team. Hunter Bingham was consistent again and kicked a good "drop punt" for a goal. Lastly, I was super proud of the team but mostly the usual suspects as I con nue to challenge them to play a different role/style to let the other kids be involved and they are learning that overall it works be er for the team. Thanks again Hatherleigh. Junior Colts: Ge ng the day underway in true wet weather footy we were lucky enough to get some of the best condi ons for the day. The 1st half was a dour affair with only 1 goal kicked up un l half me and several shots missed, we took a narrow 11 point lead to half me. The second half of the game opened up and we managed to kick away with some real good passages of play while holding the Eagles scoreless for the game. Our back 6 were again determined to not let a score through figh ng it right out to the final siren. Everyone on the ground played their part during the game and could have been in the best players. Best on ground and spent the full 4 quarters in the ruck Bam Kent received the Swallow Drive Meats Award. Second best and Rocks Shop Award went to Deccy Richardson who was in everything for the 4 quarters. Jimmy Kyle was strong across the half back line providing plenty of run to receive the Rocks Tavern Award. Jobe Janeway con nues to develop into a leader around the ground and played a strong game again in the middle took home the Mick Mullan Encouragement Award. Another young fella who has carved out a spot at full back is Toby McKinnon who has hardly been beaten all year and lives for the challenge, received the Coaches Award. The Angelino Family Award could have gone to nearly anyone on the team, but to another young lad in the backline who ba les each and every week and always has a smile on his face, Kane Ashby took the award home. Go Hawks! Senior Colts: Last game was the expected mid winter round. Cold, wet and heavy going. Hatherleigh come out to play and while our boys played some good footy at mes, just couldn't match it with them for 4 quarters. There was a glimmer of hope when the boys rallied to pull it back to two goals but we just couldn't get close enough to strike on our home deck. First best went to Joel McConachie who was playing well in both forward a acks and defence when needed with many defensive stops, that at mes could of seen us further behind. Joel received the Ma hews Petroleum Award. Riley McConachie again proves his future is

bright with his willingness to put in me and me again. This boy is not afraid to put his head over the ball and is endlessly on the bo om of packs digging it out. When he's not on the bo om of the pack you can be assured, he's showing a clean set of heels down the wing in space and looking for targets up forward. Riles got the Janeway Concre ng Award for second best. MT Wheels Award went to Lucas Kyle. This kid is new to Aussie Rules and never takes a backward step. His efforts to improve himself and learn the game have been exci ng and really look forward to him improving more and more. His endeavour to pick up the ball all day on a wet track was outstanding and his ming for disposal will come with experience. Brodie Von Stanke-Dowie took out 4th best and the Badenochs Deli Award for his efforts to try shut down some important ball carriers for Hatherleigh, and s ll find the footy himself. This kid has a bright future at Kongorong and beyond also if he con nues to apply himself and with me his body will develop and give some support to his game style. 5th best was the ever reliable and hard task master in Maverick Cooper. We look to the kid week in, week out to set us up and he never relents on the task. His speed and a ack on the footy is impressive and hope he con nues for years to come to apply his trade at Kongorong. The Spot On Fishing Award went to Troy Eder. He started at full back and was playing quite well and stopping their forward entries and then in trying to find something to gain an edge he found himself in unfamiliar territory at full forward. He se led quickly and had a few shots at goal and gave us a good target with his endeavour. B Grade: Not a good day for footy, and a bad result. The injuries in A Grade is taking its toll and wearing us thin, and with blokes away hasn't helped. Thanks to the Senior Colts that helped us out. Best was Riley Maconachie, second Wil 'Tonner' McKenry, third best went to Bubba (Bayley Von Duve), fourth (Mark) Paechy, fi h Callum ‘Waggs’ Wagstaffe and returning from injury Dan Kain named sixth best. A Grade: A hard day out last round. While its true we have been ravaged with injuries, we s ll have eighteen blokes on the field, the same as any opposi on. We need to be accountable, play as a team and back our mates. This starts on the training track, pu ng in the effort and then the rewards will come. First best and the Commercial Hotel Award (and the Think Road Safety Award) was Harry Evans who has hit his straps and picking up where he le off in the 2019 season. Ma Cordy's consistency was rewarded with the Collins Court Butcher Award. Bryn Weaver led from the front to receive the Killara Food Centre Award, with Michael Waters taking home the Club Tea Award. Corben Odea is playing some great footy for a young fella new to the Club, receiving the Killara Food Centre Award. A er the last few weeks off, we will see everyone at home this week where we take on Glencoe. We will have a few old faces about the place, celebra ng the 40 year reunions of the 1980-81 premiership sides. A big thank you to Ross Milne for tracking down everyone and ge ng in touch with them all, and we hope they enjoy catching up and reminiscing. Netballers will have their Shuffle Night a er the Glencoe game also, so get your songs locked in with either Sarah or Thirza. Congrats to Evie Sealey (50 games) and Courtney Sealey (100 games) on their milestone games last round, and special men on to Kate Wright on her first A Grade game. A er a week off due to the SA Country Zone Championships, Mother Nature welcomed us back into the fold by reminding us that football and netball is a winter sport. It'd be fair to say that at some stage throughout the day, every player from our juniors up to seniors would have been wet, cold and ques oning why they were out there and not in front of the fire. That being said, the footballers all got there and had a crack, registering four wins for the day across the four grades. Junior Colts: In the one grade where the state of the weather doesn't affect the players' psyche, as they'd all probably play in snow given the opportunity, the Minis got the day off to a posi ve start with a solid 22 point win. It was once again a tough tussle against the junior Saints, but didn't quite reach the heart stopping climax from last round with the result not being certain un l the final siren. The Saints got out to a quick start in the opening term, leading by 3 goals at the first break un l Rang was able to steady the team with solid 2nd and 3rd quarters to put on 37 points while holding Nangwarry goalless. The Saints side gave their all in the final quarter to try and work their way back, but the margin was too large to overcome. Kaleb Price is domina ng any posi on he plays at the moment and was once again BOG, also adding another 3 goals to his season total. Lachlan Brierly is also playing inspired football at the moment, and is rarely outside the best players lists, taking out second best on this day. Hamish Gordon and Sammy Haase are also back to featuring regularly in the best, using their skills to good effect in the wet to impact the play. Rounding out the best was Kade Mulraney and Marcus McGrath, who carried on their form from the previous round to catch the eye of the coach. Senior Colts: A er a disappoin ng loss the previous round, the Senior Colt lads were keen to remedy their mistakes and get off to a posi ve start from the first siren. Coming out with intent, the boys controlled a majority of the play even in the wet condi ons, consistently pushing the ball forward to provide plenty of scoring opportuni es, heading into quarter me with a comfortable 32 point lead. Over the course of the game, the Murphies were able to wear the undermanned Saints team down, playing a majority of the game in the Glencoe forward half and regularly peppering the goal face. By the end of the day the Murphy lads were able to run out comfortable winners. Byron Tentye con nues to improve and impress with his team oriented, workmanlike footy, playing any posi on he is put in, which Boof obviously values awarding him BOG honours. Timmy Mutch and 'G' Ros-Smith are also important cogs in the type of footy the team plays, receiving 2nd and 3rd best respec vely for their con nual dash and ball hun ng abili es. Will Maloney had to feature somewhere in the best for his 8 majors, which he did at 4th, while Brodie Pfitzner played a great game in the wet to take out 5th best. Reserves: A er a disappoin ng loss to Tantanoola, Whit was definitely looking forward to a much improved effort from the lads against a Nangwarry side that always play tough, possession based footy. heavy breeze, Whit would have been pleased with the way the team dug in and was able to get off to a decent start, outscoring the Saints in the opening term. Using the breeze well in the second half, the Murphies were able to skip out to a 33 point lead by hal ime, enabling Whit to feel comfortable enough to be able to u lise his bench to give some lads breathers and opportuni es for others. Weather condi ons deteriorated through the rest of the game, but the Ressies were able to con nue to win the hard footy to run out 10 goal victors on a difficult day. Taz McGrath and Pulfy both played fantas c footy all day, racking up a tonne of possessions between them, but also thriving in the wet condi ons handling the greasy pill with ease to set up many forward thrusts, earning them 1st and 2nd best on the day. Darcy Hogan was a handy addi on back to the side, providing first use of the ball when in ruck, but also slo ng 3 goals on a tricky day for big men. Hughesy is also star ng to find his form from earlier in the year, showing plenty of run off half back and making the opposi on earn their possessions, taking 3rd best honours. Whit earned himself plenty of the ball when on the field, before res ng up for the A Grade to earn 4th best, while Benny Curran con nues to be a mainstay in the best players, ge ng the nod for 5th best while also slo ng a couple goals for the day. A Grade: The A Grade lads took the oval hoping to build on their success from the previous week, but with the oval looking increasingly sloppy from the weather and the churn from the Ressies thick legs, it was never going to be a high scoring affair. A er a ght tussle in the first with a lot of back and forth footy, the Murphies were able to consolidate in the second, kicking accurately to work out to a 59 point lead by hal ime. Even though condi ons were not ideal, it became apparent in the second half that this isn't the Nangwarry side of the last few years, as they fought back to outscore the home team in the second half, albeit, s ll falling short of the win by 47 points. Ben 'Pie' Hentschke made the most of the condi ons, using his low centre of gravity to full effect to take out BOG honours for the Murphies, while I'm running out of superla ves to use to describe Dylan Childs at second best. Dane 'Dorpa' Paproth handled the condi ons well for a man of his size to take out 3rd best while the ever reliable Pa y Mitchell slo ed in at fourth best. Big Sauce Hentschke took out 5th best for his work in front of goals in the wet with 5 goals on the day, while Trent 'Whi a' Hawke backed up well for an old fella, popping up at 6th best a er a great game in the Ressies already under his belt. Hopefully before this goes to print they will have checked the accuracy of the goal umpire cards and rec fied what surely must have been a misprint of N. Easterbrook with 3 goals in the main game. Today we wish Dane Paproth all the best for his 150th A Grade game for the Glencoe Football Club. Dorpa has been a regular in the A Grade side since finishing his junior football, and is always ac ve around the club, par cularly on the social side of things. Congrats Dane. Good luck to all teams this week. Go the Murphies!

Under 11: With the weather forecast looking less than favourable leading into the game it was a pleasant surprise for the U11s at Kongorong as we got through the game dry and the oval was in pre y good shape. There were a number of kids out there for both teams and finding space was proving difficult. The wind also quiet strong was playing havoc with the kicking skills but as the game progressed so did the flow of play. Learning it was not a day for the short handballs we looked to get the ball on the boot earlier and look to clear the conges on. The lads ba led away all day against probably a bigger opposi on and enjoyed ge ng the knees dirty. Well done to award winners Fred Andre who once slightly warmed up had some telling touches saving a certain goal. Henry, Paddy and Alex all had great games really ge ng into the middle of the packs and using their strength to advantage, these boys also applied plenty of pressure with some great tackling good job all. Junior Colts: Unfortunately another tough loss last game against a handy opposi on in Kongorong. Going through a tough month of footy for our colts we were beaten by the be er team on the day. I thought our effort was there but we struggled to get it past Kongorong's defence which resulted in not scoring for the game. Chloe and Hannah Bellinger played well down the backline taking some good marks and their effort to win the footy under pressure was good to see. Brayden Chambers was welcomed back giving great efforts in the backline. Ethan Marshall had a good game defending mul ple goals throughout the game, Teej Lawlor was in and under giving it his all. Hopefully we can bounce back in the coming weeks. Best players: Chloe Bellinger (Denton’s Sportspower), Hanna Bellinger (Millicent Toy Kingdom), Brayden Chambers (Stumpy Nilsson), Ethan Marshall (Peter Walters), Teej Lawlor (Ladies commi ee canteen). Senior Colts: We came up against Kongorong on a wet and wild winters day. The boys got off to a good start kicking 3 goals in the

opening term. But Kongorong didn't go away, pu ng up a tough fight all game. In the end the boys were victorious by 2 goals. Tyson Atkinson was best on, giving his all and ge ng plenty of the ball. Paddy Chay had his usual game, roaming all over the oval and finding plenty of the ball and kicking 2 goals. Eli Kneen had a great game in defence repelling plenty of Kongorong's forward entries. Ethan Bowman con nued the good form he's played with all year. Je Faulkner used his pace in the wintery condi ons to set up the play. Harvey Jones kicked 3 goals to be the focal point in the forward line. Reserves: Last game we came up against Kongorong on a cold and wet winter's day. We are star ng to get players back from injury and it was good to see Rigger, Darcy, Telf and Wa o all playing a er lengthy s nts on the sideline. Our boys played some fantas c football for the condi ons from the very first bounce. Our backline repelled everything that came their way, and our forwards took our chances which was pleasing to see. It was great to see we didn't take the foot off for the dura on of the match and we were able to run out comfortable winners by 89 points. Best players: Telf, Gilbo, Hainesy, Jimmy, Rural and Lachie. Our mul ple goal kickers were Rural with 5 goals, Telf 4 and Darcy 3. A Grade: We are now definitely in the middle of winter with another game full of wild weather. We headed into the game at Kongorong with a clear purpose to go back to the basics and play simple football in the condi ons we were faced with. We started of strong winning the 50/50 contests and ge ng the ball moving forward quick resul ng in having a handy 7 goal lead at half me. in the last half the contest ghtened up and became scrappier as the oval got heavier under foot, a tough slog in the last half ended up seeing us come home with the win by 9 goals. Best players on the day were Will Chay, Joe Rayson, Jase Bateman, Jack Gray, Cameron Slape and Jed Telfer. Next week we are back on our home deck against Glencoe.

Senior Colts: What a day at the bay, the oval resembled a swamp and the boys needed to be in 4wd all day. We had our best start for the year kicking the first two goals, however we dropped our intensity a er that and the Burr ran over the top of us kicking the next 14 goals. Best players were Issac, Connor, Koby, Jacob, Dylan and Bronson. B Grade: Two weeks can be a blessing or a curse in B Grade footy. You can come back refreshed and ready to go or over refreshed and very sluggish and a er a defeat last me we played everyone was hoping for the former. If you came to the footy looking for a high scoring display of footy you wouldn't been too happy with the weather when you arrived at the ground with a real old fashion July day at the bay with plenty of wind and rain. The game started off as a real slog as the weather condi ons suggested with only 3 goals being kicked un l half me, however the good news was that we had kicked 2 of the goals to take a small lead into the half me break. The third quarter was played in a very similar fashion, and we added the only 2 goals of the quarter. In the last quarter the scoring freed up a li le as we added a further 5 goals in the quarter to take out a very handy win in the condi ons. Best for the week was Rhys Timms in a quick trip back to the B's in a masterful display, second best was Caleb Catena who is in a rich vein of form, third best was the captain Damien O'Dine showing the way from the front, fourth best was Lennox Lewis who is star ng to string some really strong performances together, fi h best was Jess Feast who returned from injury and has hit 2nd qtr

the ground running. As we head towards the back end of the season, we need to keep making sure that we make every post a winner. A Grade: A er a very nice 2week break, well I thought so anyway, we returned home to take on a very tough Mt Burr side that we only narrowly managed to hold out in the first round. The weather for the first game was a lot different with winter really hi ng for the round 2 clash. During the 2 weeks break we were represented at the Country Championships by Dylan Bromley as a player and Ben McGregor as part of the coaching group. Congratula ons to both on this achievement. The game started off in ordinary condi ons and the poor oval, looked like it had had 3 games on it and the rained kept coming, thankfully the boys hit the ground running a er the 2week break and worked themselves into the game beau fully to take a very nice 6 goal lead into the half me break. In the second half the bogginess of the oval started to take effect, with the scoring slowing up a li le however we were good enough to extend the league, to take out a very nice win. Best for the week was Mark Smith, I can't remember the last me that he wasn't in the best players, second best was Tim Sullivan in another fine performance, third best was Ned Wilkie who has been in red hot form a er an injury lay off, fourth best was Jake Schleter, another regular in this part of the write up, fi h best was Zack Williams who is also pu ng together a very nice season, sixth best was the coach Simon Merre in one of his best games of the year. 4th qtr

The weather last round was perfect condi ons for a winter sport; cold, wet and windy! Well done to all that braved the weather to take to the ground wearing the red, white, and black jumpers. The Junior Colts put in a solid effort to go down by 4 goals. Keep going lads and you will get back on the winner's board soon. Senior Colts came up against a very strong side looking for the points to get in the four. B Grade were undermanned once again. Seems a few fellas are afraid of the rain? Our Seniors put in a great effort and their 2nd half saw them outscore Glencoe. It was a great game for the supporters to watch and even more pleasing to hear past club legends commen ng on how much our side has grown and looking like a win is coming soon. We have 2 big func ons coming up Auc on Night on the 7th of August and the Red, Black, and White Ball on the 14th. Tickets for Auc on Night are on sale first so please catch up with Tamara or Aidan. Red, Black, and White Ball ckets will be on sale ASAP. This week’s sponsors that we thank are ATI in Penola and Empak Homes. If you are looking to build why not check out Empak. Li le Saints: We travelled to Glencoe and were met with some average condi ons from start to finish. I am sure the kids loved the chance to play in the wet and muddy condi ons. All that said we played unreal for a young group. Ball s ll moved well, we scored at every opportunity and every contest the boys a acked the ball well. Junior Colts: A cold, wet and windy day for footy as we ventured to Glencoe for a game that the boys were up and about for. We started the game with the wind and took full advantage playing some good team footy to kick 3 goals to none. In the 2nd quarter the game really turned in favour of Glencoe who took the lead and some momentum into half me. Our young Saints could only manage 4 behinds with the wind in the 3rd quarter and then Glencoe kicked away with the wind in the last to record a comfortable win. We went away from some basics a er 1/4 me which we'll learn from, but the boys ba led it out ll

the final siren. Best players were Archer, Benne , Calais (who would nearly have a goal of the year candidate), Harry and Toby. Team awards to Jordan E, Harvey and Josh. Let's all get out to training ready to go against Kalangadoo. Senior Colts: Our Senior Colts boys, played a very compe ve Glencoe side in a very wet and windy day, missing a couple didn't help but a lot of the Juniors Colts stepped up, the boys tried the hardest, but we missed our chances to get more score on the board, our defensive pressure lacked, but we have been building the last couple of weeks and it will hopefully show soon. This week we play Kalangadoo at home, hopefully we have more of a switchedon mindset and get our second win for the season. Best players were Jack Stocker, Jacob Schmi , Archer Virtanen, Cooper Holmes, Hayden Stewart and Ty Dinnison. B Grade: With a cold, wet and windy game in store it was pleasing to fill a side for the encounter against Glencoe. The first quarter saw us really start well and we had a few opportuni es to score and probably had chances to be in front at quarter me. As the game progressed Glencoe just had more dominance around the middle with our bloke's fitness levels being tested chasing. I thought the backline held up well and there was plenty to be gained from that ou ng. Bailey Lindner was best a field. Whilst he gained possessions at will, I thought his defensive pressure was just as impressive. Jeremy Weyers was a hard in and under player all day. Craig Hicks had plenty of it, Stewey was an anchor down back and the old boys Cookie and Vesa just keep finding it. Like I said to the boys a er the game it's a credit too Vesa, Hicksy and Cookie to put their hand up to play when most wouldn't, it doesn't go unno ced and if only, we had some of the younger blokes in the side have that a tude we would see be er results. A Grade: Last round against Glencoe our boys put up a good fight! Playing for some silverware is always good but to do so in memory of not just a good footballing person but an all-round good bloke in Phil Muhovics was an honour. Our first half was not terrible but was below our standard. We were 10 goals down at half me and the weather was not helping any ma ers, but much to our boys' credit we come out and piled on 8 second half goals and won the half. It was a good way to build on our first half against Kongorong two weeks ago. This week against a very talented Kalangadoo side will be a good challenge for our young team but one we look forward to.

Last round we travelled to Port Mac where unfortunately with the amount of rain they had the teams had to play in heavy condi ons. The Junior and Senior Colts adapted well to the condi ons with both teams having a win but in the senior games Port Mac were too good for the Burr boys. Thanks to all the volunteers and supporters who travel to support us regardless. Thanks to everyone who stopped in to Mad Penguin to support them in some way. Congratula ons to Jack Gregory on his 150th game today. Junior Colts: Last game saw us head down to the Bay in the windy condi ons. Port Mac came out strong and kicked the first goal, we wrestled back momentum which saw us kick 6 points before finally ge ng a goal on the board, it was a credit to the boys for keeping it down our end. The second quarter was similar with Port Mac kicking the first goal before we found our feet. Our second half was very good, it was a hard fought win and the lads never stopped pu ng the pressure on. We look forward to finishing the year off strongly a er the bye. Best players were Will, Charlie, Blake, Heath, Deklan and Logan. Senior Colts: Last game we took on the Bay in what was pre y horrible condi ons to say the least. The boys played a great team game and came away with a big win. Best players were Kallan Bevan, Geordie Whennen, Jacob Todd, Finleigh Altschwager, Calum Sparkes and Je Bowering. A er the bye we take on 3 of the top 4 teams in what will be a great test for us. B Grade: The B Grade started well kicking with the strong breeze by ge ng first hands on 2nd qtr

the ball and pu ng Pt Mac under pressure and into the second the work rate con nued ge ng numbers to the ball and trying to kick to advantage but as the game went on the opposi on started to get on top using the ball be er and they were able to score more frequently. The Burr boys ba led it out to the end with the best players being Jacob Gregory, Brad Smith, Brodie Hogan, Stephen Rees and Teags. A Grade: Well done to Taylor Allen who got best on for us against Pt Mac and grabbed the Mac Road Safety Medal. His sister Genni must be as proud as any sibling can be. Thoughts are with all local washing machines that would’ve received a fair work out Saturday night/Sunday morning. Talk about toughness and being hard at it - I take my hat off to all the netballers Saturday who ba led through the condi ons whilst playing on asphalt. Fair difference between rolling around in mud with your mates vs picking pebbles out of your knees or hands a er a game. Have never seen an umpire cop a 10 tonne football to the guts (accidentally) and take it so well. Play on and back into it! Great stuff. Saturday was what country football is all about. Bodies flying le , right and centre, mud appearing randomly for two days a er the fact and sore muscles from ge ng bogged again and again. A loss s ll hurts but we keep rolling forward, pu ng in the work together, pushing each other and seeing what we can make of these last 4 games. It’s totally up to us and in our hands. This year the Kongorong Netball Club has introduced a junior player of the day. At home games a player will be selected from one of the junior grades who displays great sportsmanship and shows that they can be a great team member, sponsored by The Athlete’s Foot. Let’s get to know last week’s winner! Name: Holly A will. Grade: 13 & Under. Where do you play on the court: C and GD. Favourite netball team: Kongorong. Person who inspires you the most: My Mum Hannah. What do you want to be when you grow up: Not sure yet.
ROUND 16 A GRADE NETBALL PREVIEW HATHERLEIGH v PORT MACDONNELL Hatherleigh are at home this week and take on Port Mac as we look to re-start season 2021. Last me Hatherleigh played, they easily accounted for Kongorong by 44, while the Demons were defeated by 19 against Mount Burr in their last ou ng. The mid-court ba le will be a good one, Tegan Merre and Sarah Faulkner have been in great form for the Eagles, driving well and delivering slick and quick passes into Keston Green and Lacey Haines who have been finishing off beau fully. Michelle Moore at C and Jess Trench have been consistent for the Bay through the middle, with Trench in par cular at WD ge ng her hands to many loose balls. The Eagles defence, while having had a few changes in their last few games, have been consistent and working well, no ma er which combina on they use. Chelsea Galpin was named best for the Eagles in their last match, with a solid performance at GK & GD. Eagles defence will line up against Port Mac GA Brooke Williams, who has had a consistent season, shoo ng accurately and making good space in the circle and Kirby Carrison, who adds height to the goal circle and combines well with Williams. Hatherleigh are currently si ng 2nd on the ladder a er some stellar performances this year. They will easily account for the Demons at home. ROBE v KALANGADOO Robe are at home this week and take on the undefeated Magpies. Last me Kalangadoo hit the court, they defeated Tantanoola by 15 goals, while Robe have had a massive four weeks off which may be an advantage as bodies get red heading towards the end of the season. They will have fresh legs and be keen to hit the court again a er such a long me. Robe have had a bi ersweet season, they suffered so many season ending injuries so early in the year but they have rallied
and put a compe ve team on the court every week which must be really pleasing from a club point of view. Sarah Laurie and Tori Gluyas have been great for the Roosters, their shoo ng accuracy in their last ou ng against Hatherleigh was outstanding. The Magpies mid-court, comprising of Jayde Peacock and Jane Auld along with Kori Collins, combine extremely well and have been suppor ng Melissa Russell and Abbey Duncan in the goal circle, feeding the ball in with speed and precision passing. Kalangadoo welcomed Chloe Pra back to their line-up, having recovered from her ankle injury she suffered at the Country Championships. Mikaila Pi for the Magpies has also been doing some great work, showing off her defensive skills and ability to read the ball. Georgia Perkins has really stepped up and had a stellar season in defence for the Roosters, working well with Alannah Campbell. Robe will give their all as they have all season, but the Magpies will take the points. KONGORONG v GLENCOE Kongorong are at home this week and take on Glencoe. Kongorong suffered a big loss against Hatherleigh in their last match, going down by 44 goals, while Glencoe had a huge 59 goal win against a depleted Nangwarry. Kongorong have had some changes the past couple of rounds, Tilah Buckingham coming into the team as a playing coach while Courtney Sealey has returned to the club, slo ng into the midcourt and providing the young Kongorong side with some experience. The Murphies mid-court unit of Donna Jaeschke and Ashlea and Rebecca Edwards have been outstanding all season and appear to be very se led. Sarah Edwards and Emily Thompson have
Proudly supporting the Mid South East Football League
been brilliant for Glencoe in defence, Edwards' speed and agility, along with Thompson’s height and strong hands makes them a force to be reckoned with. They will put the pressure on the Hawks goalies, likely to be Buckingham and Ella McIntyre. While the Hawks ou it will give their all as they try to salvage something out of season 2021, it will be the Murphies that take a big win. NANGWARRY v MT BURR Nangwarry are at home this week and take on Mount Burr. Nangwarry suffered a big loss in their last match at the hands of Glencoe while Mount Burr had a good win against the Demons by 19 in their last match. Nangwarry have been a bit unse led in their last few matches, missing players due to injury and illness. Ange Pra should return to the line-up this week for the Saints, they will however be without Hayley Burner who suffered a broken arm and will miss the remainder of the season. Saints defenders Carly Ploenges and Hayley Vanderhorst are tenacious and give their all for their club but will have their work cut out for them this week. Mozzie goalies Ebony Clark and Sarah Nulty have both had consistent seasons and on their day are capable of shoo ng with high accuracy and crea ng headaches for their opponents. Cassie Dinnison and Ange Pra have plenty experience between them in the Saints goal circle and have put in some solid performances. They will give 100% each and every week and will keep the Burr defenders guessing. The Burr's defence has worked relessly this season, Madi Hagge and Heidi Clark combining well with each other and playing some amazing netball as well as featuring in the best players most weeks. Nangwarry will fight it out but Mount Burr will take the points. Tantanoola has the bye.

NETball club notes Junior 2: Great effort against a very skilled team. Some great moving and some really good, quick passes down the court. Excellent work in defence ge ng some much needed rebounds. Thank you to Milla, Siarrah and Saskia for filling in. Incen ve (canteen voucher) went to Harper Kokiousis for a great game in defence, moving around really well, clearing space and con nually re-offering where she was needed. Enjoy the next couple of weeks off, great job! Junior 1: We were lucky enough to play our game in a li le bit of sunshine which was a nice way to finish up before a 2 week break. Well done girls on playing a solid 4 quarters of netball. We're now star ng to put together some really great plays and reading each other well. Our younger girls are really star ng to improve which is so awesome to watch. But it's also great to see the older groups suppor ng them to work together as a team. Thank you to Amalie Tuner for umpiring the week before for the 1st me, you did a great job. Incen ve (canteen voucher): Milla Roach who played a really strong defensive game taking many defensive posi ons and showed that she is a good team player including her younger teammates. Chocolate award: Tess Gibbons who amazes me each week by playing each posi on with such energy and posi vity. 13 & Under: Robe 25 Hatherleigh 38. The day was always going to be wet! We played quite well in the first, third and fourth quarters; prac sing to drive in front of our players and passing into space. Our second quarter let us down a li le as we let Hatherleigh steam ahead. Unfortunately, we couldn't catch them but the girls have showed such improvement since the first me we played them. Best player (The Union) went to Meg Schubert and the incen ve (The Project) went to Millie Fennel for much be er accuracy. Keep up your great work girls! 15 & Under: Robe 18 Hatherleigh 53. Solid game in the middle. Would love you to work on firing up from the first whistle. Good that everyone got to try a few posi ons against a quality Hatherleigh side. Best player (Hairport) to Ella Mackey. Special men on to Charlie bombing a couple in during the last quarter and Lucy chucking plenty in the 3rd. Our incen ve (The Project) went to Hapaira for a determined effort. Let's keep training well in the break. 17 & Under: Robe 41 Hatherleigh 55. Solid game girls! We came out strong and gave Hatherleigh a hard fought game. We ra led their feathers but managed to keep our cool - a great a ribute coming into finals. Passes and some silly mistakes were what let us down, but this game definitely isn't out of our reach. I'm so proud of your confidence and how far you've come this season, absolutely smashing it! Let's keep this intensity for the next games to come. Although we didn't come away with the points, there were many posi ves for us. Best player (Salubrious Hour) Sienna Brooks and Incen ve (Loaves & Fishes) Maddie Wirth. B Reserve: Robe 24 Hatherleigh 81. Tough game but hell you persevered and did your best despite the weather. Your determina on showed as at mes it was a ba le. No dropped heads. We
NETball club notes saw Rhi head to defence for the first me in a few games to match up a tall goaler. Olivia had a go at WA and Mandz WD. Lonny hit a personal goals record in one quarter. Cass went to C whilst Robin lobbed into WA for a bit. Captain Kiz turned frustra on into fire a er the first, the defence a great constant all day. In WD Anne worked hard to be another op on at the centre pass. But, the coach decided to have the first off which le an opportunity for ring-in Ruby to start in goals and she ended with the Calcu a (Salubrious Hour), 2 weeks in a row. Incen ve (Coastal Club) went to Cassie for her centre efforts. It was a tough game but s ll you must give us credit for the style of effort and keeping heads high. Let's keep working through the byes chicks. B Grade: Robe 19 Hatherleigh 60. We had a few of our regular players out and had 3 U17s step in to help us out, so thank you to Libby, Madi and Ella. Hatherleigh are a very strong side and they proved that, as we struggled to keep up. As a side we were a li le flat so it's important for us to try and show enthusiasm and encourage each other whilst on the court as best we can. At 3/4 me I decided to shuffle us all around and play out of posi on, everyone gave 110% in that last quarter which was great to see and we all had a laugh doing it. Calcu a (Loaves & Fishes) went to Libby who stepped into our side to help out in defence, her efforts in every contest were amazing. Incen ve (Hook & Harvest) went to Bai who spent her last quarter in goals and looked to be enjoying herself as she succeeded in ge ng a goal for the quarter! A Reserve: Robe 32 Hatherleigh 54. Such a great team game, the score line definitely does not reflect how we played. Everyone really stepped up and played their role - super proud of the en re team. A special men on to Shelby and Belle who combined amazingly and their shots were on fire great to see you girls play with some confidence! Calcu a (Steve's Place) went to Car a who got lots of touches in defence and Belle earned a welldeserved incen ve (Burger & Co). A Grade: Robe 52 Hatherleigh 62. A strong start from every player saw us stay level with Hatherleigh for most of the game. That second quarter is where we came unstuck and then couldn't peg the scoreline back. Sarah played a strong game at GS, talking all game and moving really well in the ring. Tori and Asha had a tough day with s cky defences but con nued to work hard at ge ng the ball all game. Kez was always going to have a tussle with her player but kept her head and worked hard at controlling the court and crea ng other op ons for a ack by clearing. Defence worked relessly all game. Georgia took control at GK rebounding well and making her polished shooter work hard for every ball. Alannah's drive down court and con nued talk helps us to not drop our heads and play our game. Sammy worked hard at keeping her player off the ring and worked with Kez at clearing out to create more op ons bringing the ball out of defence. A great effort by everyone, only losing by 10 to a top 4 side proves we have come so far and improving each week. Calcu a (Hairport) went to Georgia and incen ve (The Pastry Place) to Sarah.
Junior 2: Winter netball has finally arrived but the J2 girls missed out on the rain luckily. Thanks to the J1 girls for helping out and filling in the spaces in J2 due to a lot of girls away due to school holidays. Everyone played well in posi ons that they where familiar with and not so I couldn’t pick a best player so all received a coaches award for great sportsmanship and good listening skills while playing and encouraging each other. Well done! Junior 1: Wow li le Magpies - what a big day of netball! It was great for everyone to have plenty of opportunity to play netball in lots of different posi ons. Ebony and Molly were unstoppable in goals, with lots of nice passages of play. Ava, Lexie and Ashely worked hard in the mid court with lots of passing and driving and are beginning to use the goal circles edge - to their advantage. Tilda applied very ght defensive pressure and combined well with Emmity, Karnie and Jorja to cause lots of turnovers. Next game, let’s remember to front cut and drive towards the ball. Awards: Fasta Pasta - Ebony, and McDonalds - Ashley. 13 & Under: Congratula ons to both teams at either end of the ladder. Tantanoola - young, inexperienced and with few players and Kalangadoo - experienced, talented and with numerous players to choose from. Both teams showed great sportsmanship, posi ve body language, determina on and respect for one another. Alice (SAL Award) was our best closely followed by Lucy, Shayden and Maya. Keira took out the encouragement award (Copenhagen). 15 & Under: What a difference it makes when we are “switched on” before the game! Tegan really returned to form with her court play, showing how damaging she can be when focused and earned the Athlete’s Foot Award. Molly also showed what she is capable of, receiving Muffin Break Award. Special men on to Georgia who had an excellent game at both ends of the court and to Ash whose “one on one defence” was a good example of following instruc ons! It was great to welcome Chloe back a er injury. 17 & Under: Great team game. Defence had their mojo back and turned over lots of ball. Our a ack line was smooth and we used the circle well. It is pleasing to see the improvement in our passes. Keep up the hard work, it’s impressive to watch you all gel and improve each week. Maddy - Chemist award, Emily - Chelsea Feast. B Reserve: Great to see all players focusing on work done at training par cularly our defence. All combina ons used worked really well with players “ge ng the hang” of what’s expected. Emily proved she is a great asset to have on our bench, more than capable either end of the
court and of course Lisa helped get us away to a flier. Must also thank Maddy, our other reliable sub. Awards well earned to Brianna and Gemma in an even bunch. Must also note the accuracy of our goalies in trying condi ons (100% in third quarter)! Thank you to the team for Saturday night teas. Though only a few were able to stay everyone chipped in by supplying ingredients etc. Special thanks to Mel for helping out in the kitchen - guiding us in the right direc on, cooking chips and telling us about item 49! and to Dan cu ng tomatoes and onions a er a s nt in the canteen earlier in the day. Above and beyond what we could have expected, we are very grateful B Grade: We knew it would be a tough game against Tant and it certainly proved to be that. The first quarter was ght and condi ons made it tough for both teams to maintain possession. We had some great passages of play and both Gina and Bel converted well. Shanae and Nicole took a li le bit to adjust to Tant’s strong shooters but certainly proved their skill and applied plenty of pressure in the second half. It was great to come away with a solid win and show our mid courts versa lity. A Reserve: A much be er start than last game saw us control the game from the start and play how we wanted to. It was really pleasing to see that the stuff we worked on at training paying off with the whole a ack line reading off each other and crea ng space. Jaimee was leading from the front making some really good strong leads out of the circle while combining beau fully with Eb with the moving in the ring, this allowed Emmason, Shelby and Jamie as feeders to be able to swing the ball and open up space like we want. We now just need to keep building on this and to ensure we are consistent the whole game and not in patches. Huge thanks as usual to all my helpers in Relle, Josie, Reanna, Anthea and this week Wayne who all help make sure the team hits the court with no issues. Pines Hotel Award - Jaimee Ryan (aka 02), Beauty by Rea Award - Emmason Ilsley, F45 Award - Shelby Ryan. A Grade: Great team effort in tough weather condi ons. Abbey and Mel were certainly not scared off by the wet and windy condi ons, combing well, crea ng some nice passages of play and converted accurately. Kori and Aunty Jane found plenty of space in a ack and fed beau fully. Defence combina on worked relessly and gave their best efforts. It was great for the kids to have a run, even be er to see them, spor ng nice new socks. Thank you again to Shanen for si ng bench and our full sideline support crew - we appreciate your support. Awards: Margaret Street Meats - Micky, Athlete’s Foot - Mel, Kalangadoo Organics - Abbey-Gail.

NETball club notes Junior 2: What another amazing game! It was such an improvement from the last me we played Hatherleigh. It was great to see you girls star ng to make space by clearing out and coming towards the ball. Alyssa had great confidence to shoot and was able to convert. Great defending by Lily once again, making great space and used her voice well. Holly used her height to take strong balls over her shorter opponents. Zoe is star ng to read the play and know where her player is going to take some brilliant intercepts. Claire ran into space and used her voice to help set up play. Meeka called for the ball loudly and took some strong rebounds in the goal circle. Zayley took some great intercepts on taller players and passed really well. Keep up the fantas c work! Awards: Fasta Pasta - Zoe, Telford family award - Claire, Boost Juice Lily, Baker's Delight - Meeka. Junior 1: A tough game in really wet and windy weather condi ons. We worked really hard and had an even contest all game, unfortunately we just couldn't score to pay off our hard work. Awards went to Havana - The Bellum Hotel, and Lily - Hungry Jacks. 13 & Under: Huge improvement by our whole team. As a team, every player is giving 100% and we had a real shuffle of posi ons in the last quarter. Thank you girls for having a good hard crack at each posi on. Player of the round was awarded to Holly A will - another solid effort. Best players were Ruby Carrigan who played consistently (Fasta Pasta) and Imogen Vanderpeer (Hungry Jacks). 15 & Under: We knew it was going to be a tough game against a strong side. There were some good passages of play. We just need to use our voices and keep our eyes on
NETball club notes the ball. Awards: Bakers Delight - Alisha, and Hungry Jacks - Sophie. B Reserve: Not our best game, lots of errors and our goals wouldn't go in. Hatherleigh were too strong and kept ahead of us. We did do some good plays and when that happened, it looked great. Just need to keep up working on our passes and posi oning. Awards: Tamika Mullan and Simone Block - Lima and Co.B B Grade: Well not our day girls. Unfortunately having 2 weeks off training hasn't paid off for us. Thanks to Julie for filling in. Strong defence by Billie and Brooke making the goalies work hard all game. Mahli posi oned herself well in goals and finished off strong. Let's refocus today against Robe. Awards: Billie Fasta Pasta, Brooke Kongorong Club Tea. A Reserve: Great solid 4 quarters of netball, despite the terrible winter weather we came away with a convincing win in the end. Defensive pressure down the whole court teamed with suppor ve back up was the back bone of our game. The girls in a ack were pa ent in feeding into the goalies giving them the best opportunity to convert the hard work into scores on paper. Best players went to Heidi Finnigan (Birdie Blue) and Megan Bowering (The Body Shop). A Grade: Bad luck girls. The weather didn't do us any favours and we took just a bit too long to adjust. We are con nuing to show improvement and progress and for that I am super proud of the group. Kate also had her A Grade debut, and with the group applied great defensive pressure all down the court. Best players went to Zara and Riley (Club Tea Awards). Let's keep pushing girls!
Junior 2: Great game girls, hope everyone didn't get too cold and wet. Fantas c effort with coming in front and leading towards the ball. Metalworx Award went to Mikayla Roth for standing in front of her player and implemen ng what they did at training. Second best went to Shelby Weedon for fantas c shoo ng and leading. Junior 1: Another cold game, but you all played awesome and kept the passes short and sharp. Some amazing goals and rebounds from our goalies, our midcourt players did some great driving and passing into the ring and everyone who played defence did everything perfectly. Well done to everyone again, you all should be very happy with the way you played. Best went to Kloe Philips winning the Eddie Kuhl Tyres Award for great defence and drive and encouragement went to Vespa Sco for great rebounds and chasing the ball. 13 & Under: With the weather condi ons on the day, I thought the girls tried really hard for the whole game. We were pa ent in mes and unfortunately throw some balls away but the girls kept trying which is what ma ers. We had some great transi ons from defence to our a acking and feeding into the circle and shoo ng was great by the girls. Defenders moved hard to get in front of the goalies to prevent turnovers and they did that and rewarded themselves. Best player (Dycer Construc on Award) was Violet who played such a great game with great ming on leading onto the ball and shoo ng. Maddy received the encouragement award for her consistent effort and listening to changes asked of her. Very proud of the girls even though we unfortunately lost I believe the girls are showing great improvement every week. Well done. 15 & Under: Fantas c game girls 3925. Jorja Burdon and Montana Biggins adjusted quickly to the wind with their shoo ng and using the ring to make each goal count. Great support and posi on around the ring from Jena Jagger and Jasmine Mutch. Defence worked hard together apply pressure over each shot and blocking for the rebound. Jorja Owen and Alyssa Medhurst work well with talking and working the ball back down the court to the a ackers. Best player: Maloney’s Plumbing Award Jorja Burdon for great leading, posi oning and consistent throughout the whole game, Jena Jagger for great intercepts, applying pressure and chasing loose balls. Well done girls. 17 & Under: 44-8. Excellent game girls! It was a bit scrappy but everyone put in a great effort and it was good to see lots of defensive pressure from everyone. Raine had a great game, ge ng lots of intercepts from WA and front cu ng well to earn herself the DeGaris Lawyers
Award. Jorja and Lilly (McDonalds Award) played wonderfully together in goals, with great ming and movement. Down the other end, Chelsea and Caitlin combined really well in the defensive circle, posi oning really well and ge ng heaps of turnovers. Mikayla, Zoe and Lara also played really well. Well done and let's keep working hard for the remainder of the season. B Reserve: Great effort by everyone in wet cold weather - a great push for the full 4 quarters. Very pleasing to see the great pressure all over court, good driving into space, and great moving and shoo ng. Best players were Nic and Kate who put in another top effort in defence. Hopefully with a full side at training we can keep pu ng in the hard work to see how well we can play together. B Grade: 80-24. A great team game. Abbie and Kayla were on fire in the goal ring all game - well done to you both. We had a completely different line up in defence which we adapted well and had plenty of intercepts and touches. Hats off to the future Mrs Hentschke for giving a new posi on a go. The highlight of the match had to be seeing Abs don the WA bib and yell from outside the goal circle "here if you need". We le the court with plenty of laughs and smiles on our faces, that's when we play our best netball. Best: Kayla Medhurst (Planta on Treated Timber Award) and Abbie Cocks. A Reserve: 89-17. Well done girls, was a great game by all and we really worked together as a team and gelled well over the 4 quarters. Was nice to be back to full strength a er such a long me. We swapped posi ons every quarter and were able to adapt and keep up the intensity (it was also good to see everyone got their fair share of a soaking) haha. We welcomed back MalDog a er 8 weeks off, you shot with high accuracy and moved well. Maxi rebounded well all game and see those 2 hands work in your favour every me. Also great pa ence and feeding into the ring. Let's go out this week with the same intensity and bring home the points. Best players: Alyce (B&P Travel and Cruise Award) and Jessie Gosden. A Grade: 82-23. A solid 4 quarters from everyone and it was the percentage booster we needed. Well done girls. Caitlin and Laura had a great game in goals, both shoo ng with high accuracy and snatched in any rebounds that came our way. Donna and Ash ran hard all game and fed the ball well even in the wet and slippery condi ons. Bec fought hard and was rewarded with some solid intercepts. Sarah and Em con nue to improve as a defensive duo and created so many turnovers for the team. Let's take this consistency into this week and come away with the 2 points. Best players: Caitlyn Hentschke (O'Brien Electrical Mt Gambier Award) and Donna Jaeschke.

NETball club notes Junior 2: In windy condi ons we had to keep the ball short and direct. We were pa ent and waited for our players to find the front posi on. Paige and Arabella combined well in the goal circle, making great posi ons which allowed us plenty of shot a empts. Mollie and Kaia were strong in the mid court, crea ng quick drives and passing with precision into the goalies. Georgie jumped on the loose balls with lots of second efforts. Kirby read the ball well, ge ng many intercepts and touches. Whilst Leyla and Myla were tenacious in defence, rebounding well and making their opponents work hard for every ball. Awards: Mollie (Sportspower), Kirby (Corner Clip) and Arabella (Ladies commi ee). Junior 1: Another great game from our li le Eagles. Fantas c defence from Olivia Beggs and Livvi Faulkner in the first half, with a change of posi on in the second half we saw them both switch in to a ack with great movement talk and vision for where the ball should go. Alirah and Scarle worked well in goals together even though the weather was not ideal they persevered and made it all look too easy. Sienna kicked into another level again making quick decisions and passing with confidence. Gracie Andre dodged well, had strong passes and as always has such encouragement and voice on the court. We welcomed back Olivia Hassle from her holiday and she se led back in with ease. Thank you to Paige Walters for filling in and to our wonderful mums suppor ng on the sidelines. Awards: Maccas - Alirah Bowman, Java - Sienna Clarke. 13 & Under: In the freezing wind and rain the girls took a li le while to find their feet. Scoring was difficult in the wind so it was never going to be a high scoring game but Shama managed to keep the scoreboard cking over in what was a really good effort. Lots of changes to try and keep everyone warm meant it took a while each quarter to se le but the girls kept to the task and ran out good winners. Olivia had a great game at WD and pulled numerous intercepts. Millicent Chemist and Gi ware - Olivia, Hatherleigh Ladies Commi ee award - Shama. 15 & Under: Wow great game by all girls. Firstly thanks to Kalli and Alex for si ng bench for us. Gosh it was so good to see things we prac ced at training you girls tried really hard to u lise. Our defenders backing themselves to have a go at crea ng turnovers and then also backing each other up. So good to see. Tori and Deni worked relessly to create space and driving hard to get themselves circle edge to deliver ball to the goalies. Our goalies were both very mobile, kept the goal circle very open and presented strong to the ball. Deni won our ladies commi ee award and Niah won the Denton's award, really well done by all girls. 17 & Under: The wintry weather condi ons put a slow start to our game, with the girls taking the first half of the game to really find their flow. The strong and unexpected wind made it difficult to convert onto the scoreboard with our goalies and mid court relessly trying to get the ball as close to the post as possible. Our defence was a li le slow ge ng their groove, but were able to find their feet once the game se led crea ng turnovers when the opportunity arose. This week is a new
NETball club notes game and a fresh start (hopefully with be er weather!) where we can begin to regain our strength down the court. B Reserve: A scrappy first half as we found it hard adap ng to the condi ons. Staci and Sally both played 4 quarters of consistent netball. The second half saw everyone stepping up and applying themselves for 2 full quarters. Di and Indi adap ng be er and ge ng in front, Indi put up some great shots. Defensively with Karen, Georgia and Fee worked hard with lots of rebounds. Karen was posi ve and voiced lots of encouragement. The last quarter Jaz came on a C and worked hard. Lots of work to do in the upcoming weeks which is going to require dedica on and commitment. Thank you to Laura for si ng bench, Tamara for scoring and Kerry for primary carer. Somerset Hotel award - Staci Faulkner, Millicent Chemist & Gi ware - Sally Bateman, HSRC Karen Bowman. B Grade: It wasn't a well drilled game but considering the pre y ordinary weather to play netball in we did okay. Once again our defence end were strong with great defensive pressure by Jess, Georgia and Ella and kept Kongorong to a total of 16 goals. With windy condi ons its always a defenders game and we had plenty of opportunity in the goal circle but we couldn't seem to quite adjust but it didn't stop Ellie and Leila con nuing to put the ball up. Two of our youngsters in Meg and Lacey gave us plenty of drive in the mid-court. Nic came on at half me and had an influence straight away with her experience and talk. In the last quarter Lacey went in C and Maddie came on at GS and considering Maddie hadn't played or trained for a few weeks played very well, was strong at the ball and shot the highest for the quarters. A good win in the end winning by 26. Thanks to Raels again for coming out in the cold to score for us and to Linda for being primary carer. HSRC award - Jess, Somerset Hotel - Lacey, Sassi Gi - Meg. A Reserve: What a rainy, cold day to play netball! Unfortunately it just wasn't our day. Kongorong played well throughout the court and shot well seeing us go down by a fair bit. Our game looking scrappy with lots of balls thrown away and not capitalised on. We had lots of turnovers but need to focus on our unforced errors and passing choices. There was some good movement in the goal ring with players changing posi ons to spice things up a bit! More talk and pa ence should see us play a be er game this week. Congratula ons to Indi Howell on playing her first senior game! HSRC Isabel, Kelsey Wight Fitness - Liss. A Grade: A really good effort in the condi ons. Once again our defence was outstanding all over the court, Maddie P and Chels were fantas c in the defensive circle and gave us plenty of ball. Elly had a great first half at WD and should be really pleased with her game. Rosie came on at half me and con nued to give us plenty of drive. Sarah and Tegan both had excellent games and really stepped up to direct play and in a day not conducive to high scores, Kes and Lacey managed to put up plenty of shots and worked hard in the circle. A great team effort from everyone. Somerset Hotel award Maddie P, Millicent Chemist and Gi ware - Chelsea, Kelsey Wight Fitness award - Tegan.
Junior 1: What a great game girls a er having two weeks off and not training we came together to get the job done. All these girls have come a long, long way since the start of the season and everyone should be incredibly proud of themselves. Our transi on on court from defence all the way to the a ack is great. We are star ng to give the ball straight away when we are free which is amazing because we have worked so hard on that at training. Turning and blocking in defence is so much be er. These girls have come a long way and they should be incredibly proud of yourselves. It was cold and it was wet but we pushed through it all like it was nothing. I'm very proud of you girls, great work and keep up the hard work. Thanks to Lilly Whan for stepping up and hi ng the court, you played very well. Best players went to Mia Sphere (Donut King), Kia McDonald (Donut King) and Lily Whan (Dominos). Junior 2: Another hard game. The weather condi ons weren’t on our side and made it very hard for the girls passes to reach their targets. The girls as always ge ng lots of defensive turnovers, we just weren’t able to bring it down court. The girls are ge ng a lot be er at clearing out from the play and helping uncrowd the space. Best players went to Evie, who was a great asset in bringing the ball down court, and being a great defensive player (KFC). Second best went to Peyton who as always was at just about every contest seeing herself get lots of the ball and lots of turnovers (Donut King). Next went to our li le BK who found herself free a lot of mes being able to receive many passes. BK is a great listener, who tries hard all the me and is improving heaps (Fasta Pasta). Fourth best went to Molly who s cks to her player really well, and is a player that is very aware of what is going on around her (Hungry Jacks). Keep up the good work at training girls, as it’s paying off. 13 & Under: Great effort girls. We had some great passages of play and some bad ones. Our defence pressure was great causing many turnovers however our silly passes impacted our score. Best players Jazzy (Athlete’s Foot) for pu ng in 110% and causing many turnovers. Bailee (Bakers Delight) for also pu ng in 110%. 15 & Under: Well done girls on an amazing nail bi ng game! Everyone did what we asked of them and adapted well to the bad weather condi ons. Very exci ng game to watch and should make the rest of the season very interes ng! Best players Sophie Lewis and Brooklyn Jones. 17 & Under: Mt Burr was always going to be tough. It just shows that we need 4 consistent quarters. A posi ve was that we had a very good start to the game. We now know that we can set the standards high at the beginning. We just need to set that standard and run with it through the game. So many individual posi ves again as always! Well done girls. Best players Mackenzie Millard and Sarah Lomas. B Grade: Determined, persistent and
courageous, is how I would describe the B Grade teams performance. Everything that I ask of you all, was put out on the court. I am extremely proud of you all and your efforts. It makes me proud to be your coach. We s ll have work to do to finish with the desired result and I know it's coming for us. I couldn't be happier with the combina ons on court and the way you all worked together. MacKenzie and Jen created extreme defensive pressure to enable Kristy and Natasha to take intercep ons. Kelly and Candice combined well and capitalised on these turnovers. The defensive effort across the whole court was evident and we need to work on maintaining that for 4 quarters. Posi onal changes occurred when two players were injured and everyone step up and did their part. Abbi played her two posi ons with the utmost determina on and highest work rate to support her team. Great job Abbi. Because we work so hard on our court process each week at training, these are becoming habit which was evident in the play. Our transi ons and court play were terrific and everything we have learnt was on court. Our team's next goal will be to work with the pressure of the mer and using the minutes remaining to finish our hard work with a win. I'd like to thank everyone for their care and support for both of our injured players during the game. We wish them both a speedy recovery. Awards: Kelly Millard (Pizzeria) and Natasha Sanderson (Bakers Delight). B Reserve: Not much I can say but we can play a lot be er. We went into the game with the wrong a tude and it showed on court. Let's get out and train hard and play this week like I know we can. Best player Maddy Hann for never giving up and some great intercepts. A Reserve: Scrappy first game back for 2 weeks… We had some great passages of play and our defence pressure all over the court was great. S ll need to reduce our errors and treasure our turnovers. Best players Cody Manning and Isabelle Sneath. A Grade: Another wet and wooly day at the bay, Mt Burr coming away with the win. We started strong but let slip towards the end of the quarter. Defence once again worked hard in the circle making it hard for Mt Burr’s shooters. Jess Trench back in her possy and proving her worth in WD. Michelle Moore driving and working well across the court. Bad luck girls, keep up the posi ve vibe and look forward to Another game this week. Best players Jess Trench (Taylormade Hair) and Michelle Moore (The Body Shop). PRESENTATION DATES 2021 SENIORS: Friday 24th September @ 7pm. Cocktail food. Ticket prices TBA. JUNIORS: Sunday 26th September @ 2pm. We would also like to thank all our sponsors! We really appreciate your support to our club. NETball club notes Junior 2: Well done everyone, you all worked hard and froze at the same me. We had some good passes and lots of intercepts, just need to remember to s ck ght to our players and chase those loose balls. Thank you to James and Paige for filling in. Best players Zoe Roisse er (McDonald's award), Asha Dinnison (Hungry Jack's award). Junior 1: Good effort on a very cold and wet wintry day. We struggled a bit to get in front of our players, with 2 of our older girls away. Lucy and James combined very well in defence and ge ng rebounds. Well done Summah on ge ng your three feet and having your hands up on a taller player. Thank you Asha and Zoe for filling in for us, you both did a great job. Donut King James, McDonald's - Summah. 13 & Under: Was certainly winter last round and we again struggled in the cold windy condi ons. Hope we do not have any more days like this. Madison held well in the goal circle. Kaylee rebounded strongly. Kiara fought hard and provided strong passing. Gemma con nues to listen, improving each week and was vital in our a ack. Holly again got her hands to many balls. CJ applied great defensive pressure and drove well. Skye got many intercep ons especially when needed them in the last quarter. Analeigh is always willing to go where we need and fits into a ack or defence with ease. Not one of our best games but good to have these games so we learn from them. Hard one this week but aim is to give 100% in effort. We need to remember we are a team and takes all seven players to play a game of netball. 17 & Under: Thanks heaps to Emily Timms for si ng bench for us again. The girls played some compe ve netball throughout the quarters with was good to see. The girls went a er loose balls with some determina on about them and adapted to the weather condi ons. Alana and Mia worked well together in defence to get many turnovers and making it hard to score goals. The mid court has some good passages and were moving well and put up some good defensive pressure. Both Skye's played well together in goals and were moving well with was good to see. Thanks again to the parents that help with our you the game would not be possible. Awards: Alana Virgin - Penola Recycling,
NETball club notes Skye Fox - Donut King. B Reserve: From the start of the game to the end we never stopped figh ng an extremely hard game from the get-go with both of our goalies out we relied on Skye Muller and Alyce Yates, thanks for stepping in and helping out. Across the court everyone worked as hard as they could in the condi ons and against a welltrained Glencoe team. Short passes helped us somewhat to move down the court but unfortunately, they were very skilled and worked well together. Well done to everyone on court who braved the weather. Best players were Davina Shepherd and Maddy Glynn. B Grade: It was cold, wet and we were down 4 players if you count Megs. We had to adjust and learn to play with new players in each 3rd. I felt we were able to move the ball freely, it was very open, we created space and rarely did we buckle under pressure. The comments on the side also backed this up saying the movement all over the court looked great. Thanks for giving me 100 percent, smiling all game and having a laugh. Best players were Tamara and Jemma. A Reserve: Wowzas! What a day to play netball! We always knew that it was going to be a hard game against Glencoe and the weather certainly did not help the situa on. We had some good passages of play and moments that showed the team we can be. We just need to remember to keep our heads up and brush off the mistake so we can keep pushing through and back each other up as a team. We have a tough run to the end of the season, so let's just keep trying our best and be sure to put in your 100%. Thanks to Jemma and Sarah for filling in for us, we very much appreciated it! Best players were Chrystal Lock and Shandeen Balshaw. A Grade: Another completely different line up with unavailability and injury and we took a while to adjust to it in horrible, wet condi ons. We took a while to adjust to the change, but when we were pa ent and waited for the opening, it worked well. Defence worked hard all game turning ball over numerous mes. We just need to remember to drive it out of defence hard and use one handed passes. Wasn't a bad effort. Everyone really put in. Let’s keep our heads up for rest of the season. Well done.
The Mount Burr Netball Club is proud to have Sam and Clark Fal ng, Igni on Fitness, and Kimberly-Clark Australia (KCA) as major sponsors for the 2021 season. Junior 2: We headed to Pt Mac in cold and windy condi ons. So proud of you girls. You are star ng to spread out more when bringing the ball down the court. Em and Soph your talk on court with the other team guiding them to where they need to go was great to see. Even in the windy condi ons, you managed to score some goals. Another great team game girls. Awards went to Emily (Toy Kingdom) and Hannah (Donut King). Junior 1: The girls played an amazing game, they put 100% effort in and worked well as a team. We had many successful turnovers and lots of cheering when we shot goals. The girls have all improved so much throughout the season and should be very proud of themselves. Such a great group of girls to watch and know. Awards went to Grace (Donut King) who showed massive improvement and took in what we were saying each quarter and Sophie (Andy's Bakery) who puts in so much effort every week to get so many turnovers and shows lots of leadership. 13 & Under: Well done girls, a tough win in terrible condi ons. We need to play 4 strong quarters of netball. Our last quarter was disappoin ng and allowed Pt Mac to get back into the game. We will learn from this game, which we will prac ce at training and see our game improve on Saturdays. Thanks to Alan for scoring and Dawn for umpiring. Awards went to Sara (McDonalds) and Kodie (Donut King). 15 & Under: Bad luck girls. What a crazy weather day to play in. We came up against a very strong side who made us work hard all game. It was a great contested match from start to finish. You all kept your heads up and gave your all which is all a coach could ask for. We will con nue to keep working hard at training and come out firing next game. Awards went to Abbey (Fasta Pasta) and Oliviah B (Java Café). 17 & Under: We went into this game knowing it was going to be a tough one, especially in the wet and windy condi ons. These condi ons meant that we needed to adjust our preferred style of play in order to win. A er a slow start, we slowly found our feet and managed to build a good lead across the game. It is great to see how flexible you all are and how you adjust to the changes each quarter. Plenty of things to s ll work on as we head into the important part of the season. Thanks to Eb for umpiring, Shannon for scoring, and Tam for being assistant coach/primary carer. Awards went to Maddie (Acky's Deli) and Jarrah (Enchanted Beauty). B Reserve: Wow wow, girls what a turnaround from the first round results. Well done, this was a great win for our team. Fantas c defence from Bec and Jazmin, working so well together and taking strong rebounds.
Hannah at WD took some mely intercep ons and drove strongly out of defence. Karen and Amy combined well in the circle, and your movement and making space for each other is improving each week, and you shot well in terrible condi ons. Tess making front posi on and leading to the ball was making it easier in our a ack to feed our goalies. To our baby mozzies Macy and Abbey, thank you for filling in when no one else would. Well done to both of you, played tough netball to help us to come away with the win. Thanks to Sally for scoring and Kelly for umpiring. Awards went to Hannah (Fasta Pasta) and Tess (Denton’s Sportspower). B Grade: We had a great game where we could see how much we've improved as a team. Was great to see Sally holding strong on the circle, Georgia moving her feet, Maddie following her shots in and Courtney re-offering. A game we can be proud of and improve as a result of. We just need to control our adrenaline and work on our ming. Awards went to Brianna Scanlon (Heaven on a Hanger), Maddie Wilkinson (Ducky's Surf and Harper and Co), Courtney Gregory (Café Melzar), and Georgia Lambert (Caltex Star Card). Pt Mac 41 to Mt Burr 25. A Reserve: The windy condi ons made it a hard game for the goalies and our passing to hit the targets. Claudia showed confidence moving around the circle and taking on the dominant shooter role. Her movement around the circle and accuracy was excellent. She received the Café Melzar award. Midcourt girls once again were influen al in their pressure down court crea ng numerous turnovers. Well done Faith, Ella, and Layla. Stacey used her height to her advantage and posi oned herself well for rebounds. Heidi applied her usual pressure down court and within the defensive circle working hard all game and she received the Since Fi y Six voucher. Our first and last quarters were our best for the game, we just let ourselves down by not leading towards the ball and doing the prep work to get there beforehand which made for passing errors under pressure. Awards went to Claudia (Café Melzar) and Heidi (Since Fi y Six). A Grade: Not the best netball condi ons but a win is a win. Some good passages of play all down the court was great to see us implement what we have been working on at training. We definitely had lots of the ball but unforced errors con nue to creep into our game, with the wet and windy condi ons down at the Bay certainly not doing us any favours. With the bye we need to train hard and keep focussed on the task ahead. Thanks to Heidi for scoring, Tanya for being primary carer, Leah for umpiring and MacKenzie Job and Sophie Wallis for si ng bench. Awards went to Sarah Nulty (Café Melzar), Ebony Clark (Harper and Co), Ava (Enchanted Beauty), Laura (Carapace), and McKenzie Bevan (Boost Juice).
ROUND 13 A GRADE NETBALL REVIEW KALANGADOO v TANTANOOLA In wet and windy condi ons, Tantanoola started the game strong, with great defensive pressure and accurate conversion from goalies Emma Gould and Jami Walker, saw them score the first four goals of the match. Kalangadoo took a couple of minutes to adjust and quickly turned the slow start around to go into the first break with a five goal advantage. The second quarter saw Kalangadoo step up their pressure, with Mikaila Pi crea ng many turnovers and together with Chloe Pra made Gould and Walker earn every possession. Tantanoola's mid court worked hard to find space and fed their goalies accurately. Kalangadoo went into the main break in front 32 to 24. Kalangadoo made changes at half me, bringing Sophie Wrightson on to WD and moved Jane Auld to WA. Jane instantly made tough work for her opposi on Alex Lucas, with her quick drives and ability to find space to feed her goalies. Tantanoola's defence of Kate Bromley and Tayla Rowe worked hard against their experienced opposi on, but had trouble making an impact on the dominate goalies, as Kalangadoo went into the break with a 13 goal advantage thanks to accurate shoo ng from Melissa Russell and Abbey Duncan. The final quarter started as an even contest un l Kalangadoo stepped up their defence which forced some wayward passing by Tantanoola and Kalangadoo were able to extend the lead to finish the match 67 to Tantanoola's 52. KONGORONG v HATHERLEIGH In wet condi ons, Hatherleigh adjusted well early into the first quarter with the defensive combina on of Maddie Pulmer and Chelsea Galpin forcing some early turnovers. The Kongorong a ack line took some me to se le, with the young side again playing a different star ng 7 due to unavailability, with Courtney Sealey returning to the club playing in the mid court for her 100th game. Hatherleigh’s early defensive pressure and ability to quickly adapt to the poor condi ons gave them a lead of 13 heading into quarter me. Kongorong looked to find their feet more in the second quarter with defensive pressure li ed all over the court, as they tried to slow up Hatherleigh’s quick paced game. However, Kongorong once in
possession found it difficult to penetrate Hatherleigh’s defence and only ended up with 8 a empts for the quarter. Down the other end, shooters Keston Green and Lacey Haines were combining well to work through Kongorong’s defensive pressure and push their lead out to 26 at half me, with Green slo ng 10 from 12 for the quarter. The third quarter saw Pulmer and Galpin have a swap down the defensive end and Rosie Ne le hit the court in WD and with these changes Hatherleigh’s defence con nued to push, causing havoc for Kongorong’s young a ack line. Ella McIntyre and Zara VonStanke began to combine be er on the line for Kongorong and work the ball down the court into be er scoring posi on for them to have their highest scoring quarter of the game. Buckingham and Bald con nued to work hard in defence giving their team as much opportunity as possible but all of Kongorong’s improvement and hard work seemed to be outshone by the composure and experience of Hatherleigh throughout the court, led by the strong drives of Sarah Faulkner and Tegan Merre through the middle, as they con nued pushing their lead out to 34 at 3 quarter me. The last quarter seen Kongorong’s only swap as Kate Wright hit the court in C for her A Grade debut. She worked over me through the middle and matched the high intensity defensive pressure of the rest of her team resul ng in forced errors from the Eagles. Kongorong con nued to work hard and try and make something out of their game, but the young Hawks were simply outplayed in the wet condi ons by the put together Eagles lineup. Both teams fought hard defensively for rebounds with inaccuracy playing a strong role in the last quarter, but again Hatherleigh’s overwhelming amount of scoring a empts in comparison to the Hawks allowed them to further push out their margin in the last quarter to give themselves a 44 goal win. The final score was Kongorong 20 to Hatherleigh 64. PORT MACDONNELL v MOUNT BURR Another wet and wooly day at the Bay making play difficult at mes with the wild winds. Mt Burr coming out on top, ge ng the win by 19. Both teams started strong, Mt Burr winning the first quarter 12 to 5. Bay
defenders Lisa McGregor and Morgan Amy making the Burr shooters work hard. The second quarter saw the Burr’s shooter Ebony Clark shoo ng 100% accuracy and con nued her accuracy throughout the game only missing 4. The Bay made changes at half me bringing shooter Cody Manning on who worked well with Brooke Williams. Mt Burr defenders Heidi Clark and Madi Hagge s ll making it very tough for the Demon goalies. Mt Burr con nued on with a solid last quarter but the win wasn't made easy with defender Jess Trench ge ng her hands to plenty of balls. GLENCOE v NANGWARRY An undermanned Nangwarry came out figh ng hard in the classic South East winter weather. The first few centre passes went to goal for goal and it was accurate shoo ng from both Glencoe's Caitlin Hentschke and Nangwarry's Trestrial. Glencoe's Emily Thompson then took the first intercept for the game and they went on to a 10 goal run. The full court defensive pressure earned Glencoe four held balls for the quarter. Going into the second, Nangwarry's Cassie Dinnison tried to create some more movement in the goal circle with some strong drives and was well supported by Kylie Heaver on the wing, but Sarah Edwards’ ability to read the ball coming down court was causing havoc for the Saints and they were unable to find the space they needed. Down the other end Hentschke and Laura Edwards shot with accuracy and snatched in any loose balls that became available. Nangwarry's Ebony Lawson worked hard all game to slow down Glencoe's transi on but it was a tough task against Donna Jeaschke and Ashleigh Edwards as they found space with ease and fed the ball well from on and off the circle. Glencoe went into half me with a 41 to 11 goal lead. Nangwarry made a change going into the third with Heaver going into centre to try and create some more drive for the Saints. Heaver fed the ball well to Trestrial who found some momentum and was holding well on Emily Thompson. In the last Nangwarry’s Carly Ploenges stepped it up a notch and created some turnovers for her team as Glencoe had some wayward passing. In the end Glencoe took out a comfortable victory 82 to 23.
