Braydn Reilly ran out last Saturday in his 200th A Grade appearance for his beloved Tigers in the round 1 clash at the Robe oval. 'Reilz' has been a very loyal club person having started his playing career in the red and white in the Junior Colts in the early 2000s. It didn't take long for him to have success in his footy career playing in the Senior Colts flag in 2006, a season where he also took out the league leading goal kicker award with 69 goals. He played his first game of senior footy in this year ge ng a taste under then coach Adam Walden. He once again won the clubs Senior Colts leading goal kicker in 2007 in a year he got to taste a lot more game me in the A Grade playing in a losing grand final team. His hard working a tude on the field has seen him be a leader of our club as either a Captain or Vice Captain as well as
winning numerous club awards in his playing career: • 2008 A Grade most improved • 2009-2010 A Grade best team man • 2013 A Grade coaches trophy • 2014 A Grade most consistent • 2017 A Grade best u lity • 2018 A Grade most consistent • 2019 A Grade best team man Braydn is o en called upon to play in a variety of posi ons all over the ground and loves the challenge of playing against some of the opposi on's best big men each week. He was cheered on by his family, fiancé Kath and daughters Bella and Ruby when he ran out onto the ground last Saturday. TFC congratulates Reilz on his 200th A Grade game and hope there are many more to follow.

wayne Attiwill plays 250th Game for Kongorong hawks In a surprise presenta on, at their Jumper Presenta on Night, Kongorong President Amanda Sealey, awarded longme trainer of the club, Mandy Stephens Life Membership. During the speech it was recognised that Mandy had served the club for over two and a half decades, and was not only appreciated at club level, but clubs within the league hold her in very high regard. Mandy has been a leader in her field, a mentor and an educator, a role she does not
take lightly. Admired for her calm and undevia ng manner in which she goes about the week-toweek tasks of ge ng the teams on the field, Mandy is respected by all those she comes in contact with. With several Life Members present, and a standing ova on by all those in the room, Mandy was overwhelmed and honoured to receive such recogni on for her outstanding contribu on to the Kongorong Sportsmen's Club.
Wayne A will played his 250th game for Kongorong last week against Mt Burr. Running through a banner at the start of the game, and taking out the best player award at the end, and topping it off with a win, made the day one Wayne will never forget. Wayne commenced playing for Kongorong in 2003, as a 21 year old, following his brother Richie from South Gambier. Unfortunately, no premierships to his name, but many failed a empts in the B Grade over the years. In the earlier years Wayne was named a Vice Captain
in the A Grade, and received Best Team Man two years running, and has taken out the leading goal kicker award in the B Grade. Wayne has always been around for a kick and a beer, and is a respected player amongst his peers. Wayne now also gets to enjoy watching daughters Holly and Zoe play netball. Congratula ons Wayne on your 250th game from all the members and supporters of the Kongorong Sportsmen's Club.

VIEW FROM THE HILL Round one of the MSEFL season was an absolute cracker of a weekend with players and spectators flocking to grounds to get their footy fix a er a long 18 months in hiberna on and by all reports the games didn't disappoint those that ventured away from their lounge rooms. Down at the seaside town of Robe, the Roosters hosted Tantanoola who are looking for an improved year a er being at the wrong end of the ladder for last 3 seasons. Whilst Robe have recalled their favourite son in Jack Kelly to oversee another lt at a premiership. Robe won the toss and kicked with perhaps a 4-goal breeze towards the Church end, and they were quick out the blocks se ng up a 27pt lead at the first break, in fact 90% of the game was played at this end of the ground all day. Tantanoola outscored their opponents in the second quarter, but inaccuracy in front of goals and wasted opportuni es had them s ll trailing by 18pts at half me. The second half was a real arm wrestle as condi ons were more akin to July rather than April however, Tantanoola begun controlling the play and shu ng down Robe's run and carry game. Tantanoola con nued to take the game right up to their more fancied rivals and threatened to snatch the game away from the home side when kicking with the wind in the last quarter. Robe were able to steady and kicked a much-needed goal against the flow of play to snuff out any chance Tantanoola had. Be er players for the home side were Zac Deane, who was everywhere and had a fair bit of the ball, Tom Williams with young George Du on officially named 3rd best. Others to impress were Jordan Hentschke and Ben Jarre , although not officially named in Robe's best looked right at home alongside big brother Jed. For the Tigers, new recruit Chris Oliver looked the goods with a handy game to earn him official BOG, talented young guns Ma Sorella, Alec Roberts and Roy Osborne and another useful recruit in Bradley White rounded out the best for the visitors. At the home of the Murphies the car park full sign went up early and more canteen supplies were ordered as the visitors from the Bay were up and about eagerly awai ng the appearance of a side 18 months in the making. By all reports the boys from the Bay had undertaken a solid pre-season and were as keen as mustard to show off their collec on of recruits. The home side on the other hand were without more than half of their 2019 grand final side whilst a number of recruits who had signed to play in 2020 had a change of mind which has le new coach Frazer Scanlon the only op on of playing some of the clubs juniors a li le earlier than an cipated. Probably fair to say Glencoe stunned their more fancied opponents with no more than a few points separa ng the two sides for the majority of the game. Glencoe won the toss and kicked with a slight breeze advantage, but goals were scored at both ends of the ground so this really had li le effect. Daron 'Roo' McElroy easily dominated the ruck, but the Glencoe midfielders were reading his work to a treat and me and me again were able to dominate the centre clearances. Kev Thomson bobbed up for five goals and made his presence felt especially in the last quarter when the game was on the line. Boomerang Bromley returned to his old stomping ground and with his long flowing locks was seen in about every posi on on the ground. Kyall McLean, Mark Smith, Ben 'Ned Kelly'
McGregor and Nathan Brotherton were the official be er players for the victors. For the home side, perennial running machine Dylan Childs was named first best, a er compe ng in the mid field all game, Patrick Mitchell showed his versa lity and got plenty of the ball, newcomer Robbie Smith competed well against his much more fancied ruckman with Zacc Cocks, Jack Miller and Dylan Pfitzner rounding out the home side be er players. The only mul ple goal kicker for the home side was Jake Blackwell who has returned to the Mid SE a er a couple of seasons with West in the WBFL. Both sides will take a lot out of this game, for Port MacDonnell it might be back to the drawing board and concentra ng on the fundamentals, while for Glencoe if they can put a full and fit side on the park will again be around the mark. All eyes were on Hawk Park to see if all the player rumours and the appearance of an illustrious money tree were true! Mt Burr on the other hand were more focussed on winning the football and let their skills do the talking. Mt Burr have been rela vely quiet on the recrui ng front and have chosen to put their faith in their home-grown talent, which they have plenty of and on Saturday it paid dividends. A er a rela vely even first quarter, Mt Burr put their running shoes on and ran the Kongorong boys off their legs. The Hawks were no match for the Burr's quick ball movement and youthful energy and the Hawks were le chasing jumpers for the majority of the day. Fair to say Kongorong were a li le disappoin ng, but their lack of a back up ruckman definitely hindered their ability to gain possession of the ball in the first place. Dylan Ridley, Josh Fiebig and young Taylor Allen were considered the best for the Burr, whilst for the home side their be er players were recruits or returning players in Ma Weistra, Sco Fleming, Ma Cordy and Je A ard The last game of the round was down at Hatherleigh who hosted a reinvigorated Nangwarry Saints ou it. Nangwarry has appointed young East Gambier key posi on player Luke Thomson as their playing coach and together with the Nangwarry hierarchy have been ac ve recruiters in the off season. However, Hatherleigh had other ideas and disposed of Nangwarry with a complete and comprehensive win to the tune of 186pts. Hatherleigh were clinical, systema c and its clearly obvious new coach Jake Dowdy has a structured game plan that was executed with li le resistance. Focal point Jake Wight topped off a big day with 12 through the big s cks, followed by Jack Skeer with 5. Joe Ferguson-Lane had the ball on a string, with young gun Will Chay and other homegrown talents in Sam Waring and Ben Leopold ge ng the nod from the coaching department for Hatherleigh's be er players. Nangwarry no doubt would be a li le disappointed however they definitely moved the ball be er and their skills were vastly improved on previous years. Give them a couple more weeks to gel with each other and we might just see them push a couple of sides in the compe on. Brodie Arundell seems a handy recruit and will be all the be er for the hit out. Johnathon Mills made a welcome return to his home club to be named in their best along with youngsters Tom Vanderhorst and favourite son Joel Virtanen. To this week's matches and all games could easily take
match of the round status. Port MacDonnell have another big test this week when they host 2019 premiers and the MSEFL only par cipants in the 2020 Limestone Coast League, Kalangadoo. Being the only side to effec vely play footy in 2020 it will be interes ng to see what if any effect this has on the Doo boys. Kalangadoo will be without Jack Casey who has decided to join South Gambier in the WBFL, but they s ll have plenty of forward op ons up their sleeves to make life hard for the Bay defenders. Centre clearances will be crucial and even though I expect McElroy to dominate the ruck, their clearance rate against Glencoe last week would be something that I'm sure coach Merre will be focussing on at training this week. This game could go either way and if Kalangadoo are a li le slow out of the blocks, as can be the case in sides first games, it might just be Port MacDonnell si ng two and zip Saturday night. Tantanoola host close neighbours Kongorong with both sides looking for their first win of the season. Tantanoola certainly matched it with Robe for the most part of the game in appalling condi ons and if not for some basic skill errors and being a li le wasteful in front of goal may have come away with the win. Kongorong on the other hand were never really in the contest and this would've no doubt disappointed both coaching staff and supporters alike. Kongorong will surely bounce back, but will it be enough to tame the Tigers, I think not and Tantanoola will get the points. Robe make their way to Nangwarry and even though they will go home winners, Nangwarry will be doing everything possible to make them earn it. It will be dry weather football on the Nangwarry oval and the home side will be looking for a much-improved effort over the four quarters. Robe s ll have Billy Laurie to come back into the side but he won't make an appearance this week as I expect the coaching panel will rest him up for the big Anzac Day blockbuster next week against Hatherleigh. In the last match of the day Glencoe make the trek on the Overland Track to Mt Burr to take on a young, quick slick Mt Burr. Both of these sides are coached by outstanding young men who command respect by their respec ve playing groups, so you can be rest assured both teams will be concentra ng on the game and the final result. Glencoe will welcome back a couple of players missing from round one. Ben Swan who will be a welcome addi on to the Murphies' backline and Dane Paproth also returns which will provide coach Frazer Scanlon with another big man to rotate in the ruck as well as up forward. New coach Reece Duncan will be looking for his first win at his new home ground with Mt Burr hos ng their Launch Night a er the game. The young Burr boys will relish being on their home deck, whilst for the Murphies, the Mick & Jean Walker Oval s ll haunts them and they will be looking to put the past behind them and more forward. In what is sure to be an intriguing match, the home side might just prevail and the 2019 grand finalist might be star ng the season with a 0-2 record.

PORT MACDONNELL KALANGADOO
A Grade: Mid South East Football is back for 2021 a er a year shut down to COVID19 it was great to see to people at the footy again, a er a long pre-season, it was finally me to take the field in the first assignment against Glencoe, with new coach Simon Merre at the helm and assisted by Kevin Thomson, we have also been lucky enough to welcome Alex Moore, Jacob Pfitzner to the team as well welcoming back Dylan Bromley, Rohan Povey. A er a long 4-month pre-season it was finally me to play, and both teams came out ready with an intense first quarter that showed no signs of a long layoff, and at quarter me we trailed by 2 points, the second quarter and another tough affair in the less than sunny condi ons and by me half me came we had turned the tables to take a narrow 5point lead into the major break. In the third term the ght contest con nued as the lead changed hands again with Glencoe holding a slender 1-point lead at 3/4 me, in the final quarter the tussle con nued with the ball moving up and down the ground like it was a dry day, halfway through the quarter we were lucky enough to kick a couple of consecu ve goals to gain a small lead that we managed to hang onto at the final siren to grind out a very hard-earned victory. Best for the day was the captain who led from the front all day Daron McElroy, second best was the returning Dylan Bromley who has returned in great form, third best was the hard and tough Kyall McClean, fourth best was Mark Smith who has been the one of the most consistent players of the last few years, fi h best was the old veteran Ben McGregor who rarely plays a bad game and sixth and final best was one of the next genera on players Nathan Brotherton, This week poses a huge test playing the reigning premiers Kalangadoo, in what will be another difficult opponent. Please stay around the club for the first social club event of the year Last Man Standing Raffle, see you at the footy. B Grade: B Grade footy is back, a er a very long 18 months the leviathans of footballers have returned, not to scared of a red or blue or even green n night before a game, for some it even fuels them to greater heights the next day. The same ns can be used the next day a er the game have o en changed the course of the game when stories are being shared later in the day/evening. A er a long off season, the first assignment took the boys took us all the way down to Glencoe. This year's team is going to be led by the returning straight shoo ng coach Adam Lewis, he has brought in a new leadership group, Captain Damien Ducky O'Dine supported by Vice Captain Ben Hos son of Snr Hoss Holmes. The game itself was to be honestly a li le one sided due to a depleted Glencoe side, I am sure that they will get stronger as the year goes on, however it was a nice way to start the year with a 162-point victory with

the new captain leading from the front with 5 goals and more importantly no injuries. Best for the day was a new player to the club Brodie Glynn in a dominate performance using leg speed not o en seen in B grade football, send best was the veteran Ben O'Dine who played a sterling game, third best was Mal Lewis who has returned to club a er a year away from us, fourth best was the mercurial Ma Stark who was kicking goals out of his everywhere, fi h best was Blake Lynch who has bought his some of his A grade form back to the 2's, final best was Wade Chant in his first reserves appearance as an under 17 in a grand final many years ago. Next week we host Kalangadoo in what is always a tough affair, against a very good team. Junior Colts: It's great to be back at the footy. This year we have 27 kids which is great for the future of our club. We have 14 first year players in our side and welcome all of these kids into our team. We took on Glencoe last Saturday and our first quarter saw us slow to get out of the blocks allowing our opponents to kick 4 unanswered goals. The boys regrouped at quarter me and showed great improvement over the next three quarters keeping Glencoe to kick 4 goals for the rest of the game. It was great to see improvement over the four quarters and for a young team that is all I can ask for as a coach. Best players for the day were, Zaylen Smith who ba led hard down at full back taking some nice intercept marks and ge ng his hand to numerous balls right on the goal line. 2nd was Jak HillJones who broke numerous tackles, ran hard and backed himself to take on his opponent. 3rd was Taj Manning who was very impressive in his first game not only in finding the footy but also his defensive pressure and his strong tackles. 4th Kai Gilmore who always uses the ball to advantage and had some nice runs down the field. 5th Jacob Spehr our man mountain, worked hard in the ruck and up forward, laid some bone crunching tackles and kicked our only goal for the day. 6th was Flynn Dennert who played a solid game at centre half back showing his ability to break tackles and manoeuvre his way through traffic. Under 11: A great start to the footy season a er a year off, we kicked it off with the under 11s. It was so great to the li le ones play their first game for the Bay, let's hope they have hundreds of more to come. It was also pleasing to see a couple of the boys put their hand up to play for the other team to make up the numbers in a great sign of sportsmanship. This grade couldn't happen without the support and the help of the parents that have helped at training and game day. If you to football a li le earlier make sure you head over and watch the young ones it will give them a huge buzz to play in front of a big crowd full of suppor ng fans.

PORT MACDONNELL KALANGADOO
Welcome to the 2021 MSE season. 2020 was an extremely tough year for most people around the world. COVID-19 has affected us all in some way. While MSEFL did not go ahead in 2020 due to COVID, we were extremely passionate about playing football if the opportunity arose. Fortunately for our playing group there was an opportunity to join a “SUPER LEAGUE” comprising of 6 teams from the neighbouring 3 leagues. Kalangadoo, Mundulla, Kybybolite, South Gambier, East Gambier & North Gambier. Kalangadoo were extremely compe ve across the shortened season, winning our final 4 games and making a preliminary final against South Gambier. Unfortunately, we ran out of legs in the final term and went down by 15 points. However, 2020 provided us with an opportunity to engage with and learn from different commi ees we don't o en speak too, it also gave our senior grades a fantas c opportunity to see contras ng styles of play we haven't been exposed to. 2021 promises to be as exci ng year as Kalangadoo has ever experienced. Our club upgrade is expected to be finished in me for our round 3 clash against Mount Burr. The Football club cannot thank the working party and our fantas c sponsors enough, there is no way we could have done this without you all. I look forward to the official opening to catch up with you all and personally thank you. The upgrade has given us new changerooms for our football and netball teams as well as a faceli inside the original building. If you haven't been around for 18 months you will not believe what you're seeing. I would like to congratulate the Women's Football team, for the first me in our history we made the finals! Jamie Ryan was announced Runner Up League Best and Fairest, along with

making Team Of The Year. Chloe Pra also had a superb year, being rewarded with a Team Of The Year selec on. Well done to all our amazing volunteers who con nue to put in the work, allowing our girls to have a game weekly. A lot of their success this year has to be a ributed to our coaching staff, Darren Ousey and Aaron Illsley. Both work relessly and it was great to see their hard work pay off with a finals berth. Our Auskick/Under 11 program is really star ng to grow with over 30 kids on board for 2021. Boxy and Tys will again coach the kids. It’s great to see so many young and exci ng faces around. Josh Searle will coach the Under 14's. Searlo is only a new face to Kalangadoo, but his football knowledge and passion for the kids will hold Kalangadoo in good stead for years to come. Timmy Brennan will again coach the Under 17's, working on the founda ons built in years past. Tys Scholz is coaching the Ressies this year for the second year in a row. Numbers are strong. Kevin Stark is coaching the Seniors, he along with the group have had a massive pre-season. Con nuing to work on the lessons 2020 taught the group. Enjoy having footy back in the MSE, hopefully we come away from Port Mac victors across 4 grades. Presenta ons are at the Commersh upstairs. Come say G'day to Laney and help kick start 2021. A lot has changed since the last Budget notes. We won the 2019 Senior Premiership, the club was demolished, then re-furbished, Auldy and Jane got married, Sav stepped down as our scribe, COVID came, we played in another comp, Bulljaw and Pete got engaged and the Bowls boys won 2 flags! Stay safe and enjoy the footy! Go Maggies!

Was great to see so many people at Kongorong last week watching or playing football/netball and typical south east weather we had a bit of everything. There was some great football played - well done to all the players and thanks to all the volunteers who have put up their hand to take on a role. Football/netball clubs can't func on without volunteers. Unfortunately we won't have a under 11 team this year as we don't have enough numbers but they will con nue to train under coach Ella Li le. Today we are playing for the Ian McInnes Shield and tonight is our launch night at the club see you there. Congratula ons to Ella Li le on the best & fairest in the Limestone Coast Women’s Football League.
Junior Colts: Well football is finally back and what a way to start the season. We travelled to Kongorong to come up against a strong side with plenty of numbers. Being a bit light on with numbers we had to borrow some players from Kongorong which was appreciated and all the kids got to have a good run. To our boys, you worked hard all day and put in a lot of effort and that's all we can ask from you guys. In our best we had Will Wimshurst leading the way and running all day, the Brant boys were strong in defence, Charlie Bevan and Heath (socks) playing strong on ball. All the boys played their part and it was difficult to pick the best players which is what we like to see. We look forward to next week and having another strong hit out.

MOUNT BURR GLENCOE
A er a long, long wait, Round 1 is now in the books and here we are ready to roll into Round 2. It was fantas c to see such a large crowd out at Glencoe last weekend to usher in the opening round of 2021. The complex looked amazing once again and the oval was in fantas c nick, once again highligh ng the superb work and many hours our 'club people' put in around the club. On the football side of things, it was a day of mixed results, with our Junior teams recording fantas c wins, but the senior sides ending up on the wrong side of the ledger at the end of the day. Junior Colts: The Junior Colts got the day off to a cracking start under the guidance of Rang, recording a strong win by 51 points. Marcus McGrath (of the Junior variety) had a solid day bagging two goals and snagging the second best player award, while the Price Brothers also kicked two apiece with Kaleb also taking out the best player award while Kallan, with blonde locks flowing, snuck in for sixth best for the morning. Rounding out the best players for the day were McKayla Maney who worked hard around the ball all day for third best, and Tennis buddies Hamish Gordon and Sammy Haase acing it to take out 4th and 5th best respec vely. Senior Colts: The Senior Colts con nued on from where the Junior Colts finished, ge ng out to an early 3 goal lead by quarter me and never looking back. In a game that featured some very ques onable haircuts, Will Maloney and Kyle Maney lead the scoring with 4 goals each and backed up their work around the goals in other areas of the ground to take out the 3rd and 4th best player awards respec vely. Cam Brooks and Isaac Mulraney bagged 3 goals apiece and also played some skilful footy around the ground to take out the 2nd and 6th best player awards. Even more impressive is that these four lads backed up their Senior Colts efforts to take part in the A grade game later in the day, where they also performed admirably. Great effort boys. Best player on the day went to Ben Weedon who provided a lot of drive forward with hard running and a lot of contested ball, even snagging a couple of sausage rolls himself to top off a stellar game. Rounding out the best players was Hugh Talbot at 5th, who hopefully received an Athlete's Foot voucher so he won't have to con nue wearing socks and slides a er the game in public. B Grade: Unfortunately that winning feeling came to an abrupt halt with the Ressies who were outclassed by a highly skilled and hard running Bay side who I would expect to see featuring in September footy ac on. The 2021 version of the Ressies side was vastly different from when they last took the field in 2019 with Wi a having to provide “Hi! My name is…….” name tags to the lads before they took the field to iden fy each other. It was always going to be a hard test first up with such a new side, but it has been great to have so many new faces around the team who will only improve as the season goes on. To the game itself, the COVID-confusion was apparent for

Jezza, who must have assumed the 1.5m spacing rule applied to your opponents, giving up a few early goals, albeit to stellar delivery from the Bay Boys. To his credit, Jezza ba led his guts out all day with the ball being sent in with extreme regularity, taking out best player for his efforts. Newcomer Steven Hughes also ba led hard against the de all day to take out 2nd best, showing he will be a great addi on to the team. “Will's mate”, Harry Comley never stopped running all day to receive 3rd best honours, while the man who's had more comeback tours than John Farnham, Ali Sco , never gave up to feature at 4th best and kicked the team's only goal in the final quarter. Rounding out the best players for the day were Ben “Anger Management” Curran, playing out of posi on regularly to help provide some forward drive and at 6th best, Niall Easterbrook, once again playing some smart, consistent footy. Onto this week lads! A Grade: The A grade side went into the game against the Bay as strong underdogs but took the fight right up to them un l late into the 4th quarter. Frazer would no doubt be disappointed to not come away with the 4 points, as he has made clear, this will always be the goal, but must be pleased with the number of posi ves to come away from the game with. The back line performed superbly under pressure all day, repelling regular a acks, while the midfield controlled a large por on of the game, but the boys just couldn't capitalise on the forward entries with as much regularity as they would have liked. Dylan Childs once again displayed elite endurance and running to pop up all over the ground and provide a lot of forward drive to take out first best in a strong performance. Pa y Mitchell was rock solid down back for a majority of the day, reading the play like a veteran and pos ng a number of intercept marks to cut off and deny a large number of Pt Mac's forward entries. The big fella in ruck, Robbie Smith, played a consistent game, regularly giving the mids first use of the ball, and providing a strong presence all over the ground with his contests and tackling pressure. Soon to be father of two, Zacc 'Packet' Cocks showed no sign of the dreaded 'Dad Bod' to do what Packet does, racking up the hard ball gets to consistently repel a acks and drive the ball into the forward 50 to take out 4th best honours. Rounding out the best was Jack Miller, having arguably his best game for the club yet, providing relentless pressure with his tackling, while also contribu ng regularly with some well executed possessions. A men on must also go to newcomer Jake Blackwell in his first game for the club, leading the way with 3 important goals, while displaying some silky skills around goals. Today in the main game we are playing for the Ian McInnes Shield, which we currently hold, and the boys will be doing all they can to retain it. Hopefully today everyone brings their DDT and we can knock off a few Mozzies! Go Murphies!

TANTANOOLA KONGORONG
Not the best day for footy at Robe last weekend but we were able to come home with some wins a er our first game. Tonight we are excited to have popular South East band The Southern Undertows playing at the club ll late, $10 cover charge and a great way to start our 2021 season. Some great events are coming up this season with Hypno st Isaac Lomman on June 5th a er Hatherleigh, Rump and Red July 17th and Mexican iPod Shuffle night on August 14th. There will also be presenta ons our 3 of our sponsors during the year so please keep an eye on our Facebook page and Social Calendar for more informa on. Thank you to all our sponsors for their support this season a er a difficult and stressful year for many in 2020. Please support those who support us. www.tantanoolafootballclub.spor ngpulse.net Find us on Facebook: Tantanoola Football and Netball Club Junior Colts: The Junior Colts got the season off to a great start with a narrow 2 point win in a very exci ng game. Unfortunately, we are light for numbers at the moment so a big thank you to the Robe coach and the kids that pulled on a guernsey for us. If anyone knows of any kids who might like a game then can you encourage them to come and try. Best players were Ashton, Braydn, Kaden, Brayden, Evan, Levi. Awards Ashton - Denton's, Braydn Jennings Family Award, Evan - Fasta Pasta, Levi - Maccas, Kaden - KFC. Senior Colts: G'day all and welcome to the return of winter sports a er the trials and tribula ons of “The Pandemic”. We have an enthusias c bunch of teenage lads with a lot to learn about the game and life in general, off to Robe we headed. Robe provided the weather we have come to love and expect, only 45 mph winds along with four quarters and four seasons is not a coincidence. We fought hard for

the whole game against a very strong opposi on and will learn a lot from the experience. Be er players where Jack “S x” Cytrowski, Cade “Ned” Kelly, Will Scanlon, Saxon Altschwager and I thought big Jenno did a good job. Heads up boys and we will learn and move forward with this experience. B Grade: This season sees a changing of the guard of sorts, Jimmy Varcoe has stepped down as coach with Nick Harris stepping in and we have fresh faces leading the side in Travis Gilbert and Chris “Bundy” McCallum, Robe proved far too strong in our first hit out of the season we have plenty to learn and can only get be er. Best players were Spoggy, Nicko, Varx, young s cks ba ling hard all day. A Grade: G'day everyone, welcome back to football in 2021 a er a year without Mid South East football. For opening round the seniors took on Robe at Robe. The boys were keen as mustard to get out on the field a er 18 months off footy. In Robe it was a windy day as it is near the coast, which played against us and played for us at mes. Unfortunately, we didn't capitalise on the scoreboard when the wind was in our favour but there were plenty of posi ves to take out of Saturday and also parts where we can improve for next week to become a be er side. As for Robe they provided a strong side that seems to have known each other very well, which helps with ball movement and player knowledge. They also capitalised on the weather in the first which made us chase the score most of the day. Couple Tant debuts and senior debuts with Adam Hunter, Chris Oliver, Jordan Ha , Hamish Boully, Hamish Thomson, Cade Kelly and Will Scanlon. Bests on the day were Chris Oliver, Ma Sorella, Brad White, Alec Roberts and Roy Osborne. This week we take on Kongorong at home, hoping to step forward with a posi ve mind set from last week and get our first win for the year.

TANTANOOLA KONGORONG
Round One saw us play hosts to Mt Burr, winning three out of the four games for the day. A large crowd enjoyed some great footy, star ng of with the li le tackers early on. No doubt plenty of nervousness out on the field, with most playing their first game, watched on by many a proud parent and grandparent. Junior Colts: There was lots of excitement and a few nerves for our U14’s. Thank you to everyone who got to the game early and supported our Juniors, it was great to have so many there on the sidelines. The oval was in perfect condi on and thankfully the rain held off for our game. With several new faces in the team, and 1st game for many who are making the step up from the minis, there was plenty enthusiasm to get the game underway. Unfortunately, Mt Burr were short on players and in order to make a game of it we loaned 4 players across. To the boys who went and played for the Burr a massive thank you, and was pleasing that they s ll gave it their all, and played the Kongorong brand of footy. Due to numbers this year, this will be a common occurrence most weeks. The game was fairly ght for the majority of the match, with a couple of their bigger players doing a lot of the work, but much to everyone’s credit, they con nued to work through what we have been working on at training. In the end our fitness allowed us to kick away late in the game, to end up with a comfortable win. Best players were a tough one to pick, mainly as everyone played their part and we juggled the team around a lot. In her 1st game of footy ever Lily Gordon played on the wing and was in everything, all game, even scoring a goal and was named best on ground with the Swallow Drive Meats Award. Out on the other wing Ryan Angelino picked up where he le off in 2019, with plenty of poise, and se ng others up was second best, receiving the Rocks Shop Award. Kur s Lasle had a tough job all game, and found plenty of the ball, receiving the Rocks Tavern Award. Another who stepped straight back into good footy from 2020 was Tyler Richardson, played full game in the middle and found himself with the ball up forward to kick 4 goals and plenty of ball all around the ground received the Mick Mullan Award. The Coach’s Award was probably one of the toughest to pick, as could of went to nearly anyone, but in his 1st game up into U14’s a er missing football in 2020 went to Cohen Galpin. Coaster was solid in defence all game and was always looking to support teammates. The Angelino Family Award went to another 1st gamer in Logan Cordy who is up from the minis and has been working hard at training, his improvement since star ng, as a coach is exci ng to watch. Today up we travel to Tant who over recent years have some good ba les against, and we look forward to ba ling it out once again. Senior Colts: Last week saw a new year – a new team – a new coaching group. The boys started off rusty, like a team that hasn’t played together, and it showed for the first two quarters. We were lucky to be in touch with the Burr boys, but at half me it was like a switch turned on and the boys started to link up and run well, with support. A lot of

link ups out of the backline set the tone, and the forwards that had been presen ng well started to get the rewards for their efforts. Best players included Jake Carrigan, Tom Bellinger, Jake Whi y, Joel Maconachie, Riley Maconachie and Will Von Stanke. Thanks to Mick Waters and Paul Ellis for coming on as joint coaches, and also a shout out to Daniel Ashby and Shane Bellinger in ge ng the ground work done, to get the team on the field. B Grade: Firstly, a huge congratula ons to Wayno (Wayne A will) on his 250th game with the club. It’s great to have footy back! Our first quarter was a scrappy, hard contest and like we expected, it looked like we hadn’t played for 18 months. We addressed a few things in the second quarter, and got the running game going with some good link ups, and kept building from there to run away with a comfortable win. Best player went to the man of the day ‘Wayno’, he cut everything off at centre half back, and then went forward for a goal as well. Ryan Vickery took the game on at half back all day and earned seconed best. Third best, and great to have him back a er a few years absence, Big Mull (Jack Mullan) who looked dangerous up forward. Fourth best to big Bryce James in the ruck, gave us first use of the ball all day. Jordan Cozzi was solid in the backline all day to get fi h best, and Oscar the ‘Grouch’ Geddes rounded out the best players, as a result of his run all day on the wing. A Grade: A new look team took to the field last week, and while we may not have go en the end result we were hoping for, the boys will certainly be be er off for having played together as a unit for the first me. New player to the club Ma Weistra led from the front and was awarded best player for the day. Sco Fleming returned to Kongorong, and marked strongly all over the ground to be awarded second best, a great effort on what was his 40th birthday, a player that has great onfield leadership, its good to have him back. Ma Cordy was the quiet achiever on the day, taking out third best, closely followed by an athle c performance by Je A ard in fourth. Paul Ellis stepped it up a couple notches a er half me (5th best) and rounding out the best players was Charlie Shultz who was solid and hard hi ng all day. A big thanks to the Brant families for dona ng the wood for our gate raffles. It’s great to see so many new people to the club, volunteering and helping out across all areas. Congrats to G. Stanley from Mt Burr who won last week’s gate raffle. Coola Cup returns 22nd May! $20 a cket, extra $10 if you want to catch the bus, available Tuesday & Thursday nights from the stubby shed &/or bar, or catch up with Brad Long or Emily Lightbody. Always a great night, so get your race a re dusted off, buy a horse and lock in your jockeys. Massive thank you to the Ellis families for allowing us to hold the event, greatly appreciated. Today we take on Tantanoola, let’s hope we can go one be er than last week and get four from four. Good luck to all footy and netball teams today. Carn’ the Hawks!

NANGWARRY ROBE
How good was it to be back playing? Thank you to everyone one who headed down to Hatherleigh to play and support the Saints. Whilst we did not get a win on the board word around the ground was that everyone just enjoyed being back playing. Lastly on our first home game of the year we would like to honour our Life Member Jenny Perry who passed away last year during COVID. Jenny was a big part of the Nangwarry Netball and Football Clubs earning life membership for both clubs. We would like to see all players wearing black armbands this week to remember and honour her. We invite everyone over to the pool hall a er the game to have a drink. Under 11: Great effort by our under 11s. Good to see all the kids ge ng involved and having a go. Some awesome ball movement and good kicking really helped us score a few and gain some confidence. Shout out to Hatherleigh for lending some players and giving all the kids a go, which is what it is all about. Junior Colts: Welcome back to hopefully what will be a ripper year of junior colts footy. We matched up against a well put together Hatherleigh side in our first game of the year. It took the boys the first couple of quarters to find their spot in the game but really held back a strong & skilful Hatherleigh ou it who are spoilt for choice with plenty of lads on the bench to swap out. The third quarter was our best quarter of the game with Nangwarry holding back Hatherleigh and really pu ng up a fight. We put through our only major of the day with Noah star ng off his tally with a ripper goal. The backline had a big job throughout the game and ba led right through to the final siren. Archer, Riley & Calais held off many forward a acks by Hatherleigh and did their best to find targets coming out of the back line. Our Captain Noah ba led the whole day and was everywhere around the ground. Benne had an outstanding game with plenty of run and ge ng his teammates involved in the game. The scoreboard really did not reflect the effort put in by the lads with them digging deep and ge ng behind each other. All players can hold their heads high. Hopefully, next week we see the effort that the boys have put in over the preseason and see a be er result

on the scoreboard when we host Robe. Best players against Hatherleigh were Benne , Noah, Archer, Calais, Riley & Cameron. Thank you to our best player sponsors for Rd 1 in Nangwarry Pastoral co, Deland Engineering & Dress me hire Co. A big thank you to Plugger, Ma T, Marcus T, Vesa & Jase for your help before and during the game and Tamara for all your help with organising people to assist on game days. Senior Colts: It was a tough game for the Senior Colts to start season 2021. With very li le training together before round 1, I know I will see improvements sooner rather than later. Let's s ck together and let's get out on the training track. Best players Ty Dinnison, Peter Davis, Zaidyn Tweed, Jacob Schmi , Archer Virtanen, Bailey Lindner. Goal kicker Archer Virtanen. B Grade: On a windy day, the boys come up against a classy ou it in Hatherleigh. There were patches of play in the first quarter that we can work on and hopefully put in a be er performance against Robe next week. Ma y Thomson tried hard all day on the ball as well as 1st gamer Dan Chris an who ba led manfully in ruck. Also, special men on to Jacob Schmi who played Senior Colts as well as Seniors and done some good things in the second half. Let's get some boys out on the track and show some improvement next week. A Grade: Well a er a long 18 months footy is finally back! We made the trip down to Hatherleigh to face a very good team! Our boys had some good passages of play in patches, and I thought our pressure was pre y good in spurts as well. The scoreboard some mes does not tell all the story, but we were outclassed by a well drilled team. We have got a few recruits and played with 16 players under 26 years old so it will take some me for the team to gel. We had a few players who shined bright. Dyl Podobonik played a good game down back. I gave him a job and he more then held his own. Jonny Mills put the clamps on Joe Ferguson-Lane a er he had a heap of it in the first quarter, Tom Vanderhorst was good all day, Brodie Arundell more than held his own deep in defence with plenty of the footy coming in. Round 1 is in the books and I am looking forward to con nued improvement by the boys!

A Grade: Robe welcomed Tantanoola to Robe for the start of the 2021 season. Robe and Tantanoola both fielded quite different teams from 2019. And therefore apart from Robe having a home ground advantage neither team could be considered favourites. Robe won the toss and kicked with the breeze and appeared to make best use of scoring five goals to one. Kelly and Dickerson provided the focal points for Robe and were difficult for the Tant defenders to contain. In the second quarter Tant had use of the wind but did not move the ball as smoothly and accurately as Robe. The half me scores showed Robe leading by 19 points and set the match up
for a great second half. The third quarter was a struggle with both sides a acking the ball hard and the defenders were on top. Robe did not take their chances in front of goal and Tant could not get the ball deep into their forward line. The last quarter became a ght struggle with both teams unable to break free and play open football. The windy condi ons did not help and the result was una rac ve football however all players commi ed themselves to the ball. Robe’s fitness and skills helped keep Tant from taking advantage of the wind and they ran out winners. Best for Robe were Deane, Wachtel, Du on, Hentschke, Sneath, Pe t and Williams.

Sealey CELEBRATES 300 Club GAMES & 200 Senior Games On Saturday 10th April, we celebrated Kate Sealey playing her 200th Senior Game and 300th Club Game for the Glencoe Netball Club (which she actually played in the last game of 2019). Kate commenced her compe ve netball career for Glencoe in 1996 and played all of her junior netball with Glencoe before gradua ng to the senior ranks. Since that me Kate has established herself as a prominent defensive player, well known throughout the League as a constant voice for her side and never say die a tude. Kate spent a season away from Glencoe in 2004 and also had me off in 2009 and 2014 due to having kids. Kate has been a great contributor to the Glencoe Netball Club, having been a member of the Commi ee over many years and also coaching in 2009, 2012, 2018 and 2019. In recent years she
has always been quick to raise her hand when umpiring or other du es around the club are needing to be filled. Highlights of Kate’s career are receiving the League Best & Fairest for B Grade in 2006 and being a part of the 2010 A Reserve premiership side. She has also claimed the A Reserve Best & Fairest Award for the club in 2009, 2013 and 2015. This year Kate is part of the B Reserve team and we are sure she will again display her tremendous leadership skills and be a constant source of encouragement for her side. We also look forward to watching her daughter Hallie climb through the ranks in the future. The Glencoe Netball Club congratulates Kate on this milestone and her long-standing commitment to the club.

ROUND 2 A GRADE NETBALL PREVIEW Port MacDonnell v Kalangadoo Port MacDonnell host their first home game for the season while Kalangadoo take to the courts for the first me a er having the bye in Round 1. Kalangadoo should be raring to go and with many players from their 2019 premiership team lining up again, they will be hard to beat. Jayde Peacock will be a playing coach in 2021, her experience and knowledge of the game will hold the Magpies in good stead. Port MacDonnell should welcome back youngster Montanna Millard this week who was unavailable in Round 1. The new look Demons played some impressive netball against Glencoe, going down by 11 goals. Their defence line of Morgan Amy and Lisa McGregor worked well together and will need to work hard against experienced goalies Melissa Russell, Abbey Duncan and Ebony McDiarmid. Jess Trench and Michelle Moore worked hard for the Bay in the midcourt and will have a great ba le with Peacock, Lauren Duncan and Jane Auld. Kalangadoo are a close knit team, expect them to get over the line but Port Mac should create an even contest in front of their home crowd. Mount Burr v Glencoe Mount Burr head home this week to take on Glencoe. Both teams were impressive in their opening rounds. Mount Burr defenders Madi Hagge and Heidi Clark were very strong against Kongorong and will make Glencoe goalies Caitlyn Hentschke and Malinda Markiewicz work hard for their goals. Glencoe’s Sarah Edwards played an outstanding game at GD against the Bay taking intercepts all over the court. Her speed and agility makes her a threat to any opposi on.
Mount Burr goalies Ebony Clark and Sarah Nulty will have their work cut out for them against Edwards. The midcourt ba les will be worth watching - Ella Fal ng, Laura Schutz and Ann Guye will work hard for Mount Burr while Glencoe's Donna Jaeschke and Ashlea Edwards are extremely hard to beat on their day. New Mount Burr coach Tamara Hagge will be keen to get another win on the board and get their season off to a great start. This will be a big test for them. Glencoe will be looking for consistency as they ease into their season and coach Jenna Paproth will be focused to help her team get over the line. This should be a close match, goalie accuracy will be important. Glencoe for the win but will be watching this one with interest. Tantanoola v Kongorong The Tigers play their first home game of the season and would be looking forward to hos ng the Hawks. Tant were impressive in their first game, defea ng Robe by 14 goals. Goalies Emma Gould and Jami Walker missed a few early as they adjusted to the windy condi ons at Robe but soon se led and became more and more accurate as the game went on. Kongorong defenders Emily Lightbody, Ella McIntyre and Riley Buckingham will need to be on their toes to limit the opportuni es to Gould and Walker. Kate Bromley and Simone Li le were strong for the Tigers in defence while Kongorong’s goalies struggled to score in the condi ons against Mount Burr, only managing 10 goals for the match. Kongorong are keen to introduce some juniors to their A Grade this year, which will only benefit their club in the future. Youngster Zara VonStanke was impressive
Proudly supporting the Mid South East Football League
for them last week combining well with Sarah Beare through the midcourt. They should both put up a good contest against Casey Walker and Victoria Lucas for the Tigers. Tantanoola to take the points at home. Nangwarry v Robe Nangwarry hosts their first home game for 2021 and Robe makes the trip to take on the Saints. Robe went down to Tant in Round 1, with their unbelievably bad luck con nuing on the injury front. Coach Kimberly Aus n went down with a knee injury and Hannah Perkins le the court with a dislocated shoulder. Perkins’ injury looks to be season ending while Aus n will have scans on her knee to determine the damage. Nangwarry were beaten by a slick Hatherleigh unit and will be looking to bounce back at home. Hayley Burner was impressive for the Saints and will possibly line up against Kim Ross who was one of Robe’s best or Keryn Moore who was impressive a er making the move up to A Grade from A Reserve. Georgia Perkins will likely come up to A Grade from Robe's A Reserve to replace the injured Aus n in defence. Her and Alannah Campbell could line up against goalies Kylie Heaver and Ange Pra for the Saints which will be a good ba le in the circle. Saints playing coach Cassie Dinnison was named in the best for the Saints in Round 1, she can play anywhere on the court and provides stability and support to those around her. Aus n will be coaching from the sidelines this week, she should be able to get her troops over the line, however expect Nangwarry to come out and give their all for their first home match of the season.
Hatherleigh has the bye.
port macdonnell NETball club notes Junior 1: Awards – Kasey McLean (The Athletes Foot) and Addi Smith (Maccas). What a great first game girls. So proud of all of you for listening and pu ng onto court what we had prac ced. Everyone deserved an award. Our centre court play worked well and we had lots of op ons. Now to work on bringing it out of defence and throwing in front. Best players went to Kasey for her all over court performance, great a acking and defence all game. Maccas award went to Addi for coming forward and movement in the circle. Junior 2: Awards – Peyton (Maccas) and Evie Jones (The Athletes Foot). First of all well done girls! You all played well, and tried your hardest. It's great to see that everyone gets along with each other, and you all we're suppor ve of each other. There was no nega vity, and the girls all listened really well. The awards for this round went to Peyton, who shot our first goal for the season, seeing herself get lots of touches and being a great leader in bringing the ball down the court. The second award went to Evie who had lots of touches as well and was a great help in bringing the ball down for her a ack line. Keep up the good work team. 13 & Under: Awards – Layla McPherson (The Athletes Foot) and Ma lda Coe (Maccas). What a great first game. I'm super proud! A very close one with the wild weather that didn't stop us from working over me from defence all the way to a ack to ensure we scored that final goal. Our cu ng in front and defence pressure was excellent from all players. Best Players – Ma lda Coe and Bailee Lewis. 15 & Under: Awards - Sophie Jones (The Athletes Foot) and Grace Jacobs (Maccas). Congratula ons girls on star ng the season with a great win! It was great to see you all out there working together a er such a long me not playing. We are super excited to work with you girls this season! Hope you have a fast recovery, Edie. We need you back on the court. 17 & Under: Awards – Arriella Smith (The Athletes Foot) and Stevie Collins (Maccas). Star ng off to a very strong start with core goalie Riley Spehr domina ng in the goal circle, maintaining our centre passes and turning over every ball opportunity faced to them. Unfortunately, Riley being sidelined with an injury sending her to the hospital 6 minutes into the first quarter saw us get flustered and lose our control on both ends of the court. Although losing Riley, new player Ruby Wallace slo ed into the game perfectly, also being dominant in the circle. Defenders Stevie Collins and captain Kristy Sneath were dangerous in the circle, turning over many balls and crashing the boards hard claiming all the rebounds. Mackenzie led the team also domina ng the centre posi on and stamping her authority early on in the game. Arriella, best on for the day showed why she is a WD. FANTASTIC hands, all game as well as an excellent voice. Arriella you are really coming out of your shell and you are dangerous. Imogen (pocket rocket) too fast for everyone as always, excellent pa ence and feeding into the circle. Lastly, Sarah. Managing to keep yourself so composed throughout the second half, very impressive for someone your age to not let the frustra on get to you. A great

quality to have when playing sport. All over with you all doing these things individually will lead to great team achievements. A great first game. Get be er soon to Riley who ended up ge ng s tches, we look forward to seeing you back in a few weeks. B Reserve: Awards – Fee Sco (Lima and Co) and Lyndall Feast (Periwinkles). Great first game by everyone, for a team that hasn't played together before we did a great job. We just need to remember to take our me and have confidence in ourselves. Good shoo ng by Cristan and Maddy in windy condi ons, Immy and Ariella ran well in centre and awesome defence by Fee, Lyndall and Ashton you worked relessly all game. We wish Brides a speedy recovery. B Grade: Awards – Candice Merre (Lima and Co) and Emile Stevens (Periwinkles). For our first game playing together, it was a posi ve start to the netball season. The grit and determina on shown in the 3rd and 4th quarters were evident of what we as a team are capable of when we work hard for each other. The defensive effort in defence was brilliant, shu ng down the a acking op ons to make more turnovers and maintain pressure. Kelly and Natasha worked relessly together to help us capitalize on our turnovers. It was an impressive to see us come back from 16 goals down, to come within 3 goals. Let's work on a strong start and maintain focus and control for the full 4 quarters. Thank you to Mckenize who filled in at WD. Kelly did an amazing job swapping into defence and was able to get turnovers. A Reserve: Awards - Holly Smith (Lima and Co) and Keyarnah Smith (Periwinkles). Great start to the season, with a fresh new team and a few players out, it was a good effort. We definitely had a few awesome passages of play but need to play four consistent quarters, but that will come with me, once we start ge ng used to playing with one another. Let's work hard at training and improve our game for next me. A Grade: Awards - Jess Trench (Lima and Co) and Brooke Williams (Periwinkles). Not the result you want as a first game but s ll very happy with our game. Our first half we stuck with Glencoe but the 2nd half let us down, we lost our legs and struggled with match fitness. Other than that we have lots of talent to work with for the season and great combina ons that will only improve throughout the season. I'm excited to see what we can do next. Club News: What a great and windy start to the 2021 MSE netball season. We came away with some wins. Junior 2: Great start to the season girls. What an exci ng game to watch. Lots of talk and encouragement from all girls on court, helping each other out where they needed to be. Passing down the court was good. Let's work on coming front and stepping next week overall an excellent display of teamwork and including everyone in the game. McDonald's Voucher went to Eva. Junior 1: It was a great first game for the season girls. Even with the cold weather, you all showed up with a great a tude from the first whistle and were ready to play. It was good to see the whole team working together and using voices across the court. Also good to see what we will need to work on before next week. A big thank you to our Junior 2's- Sophie, Isabelle, and Emily for filling in. McDonald's voucher this week went to Gemma. 13 & Under: Well done girls, it was a cold and windy day at Kongorong for our first game of the season. We need to remember to use all of our court and create space before coming to the ball. We made some changes at each quarter and you all did a great job working together as a team and adjus ng to different posi ons. A great start to the season and one that we can learn a lot from and work on improving as a team at training. Thanks to Ka e for scoring and Mandy for umpiring. McDonald's award went to Kodie. 15 & Under: Fantas c start to the season girls. We started strong and maintained this throughout the rest of the game. Our defensive pressure down the court created many intercepts and turnovers. We had some great passages of play and transi ons down court, and combined with strong feeds into the circle gave our goalies numerous scoring opportuni es. Well done to our goalies, Lily, Jemma and Jasmine who shot well in the windy condi ons. Great teamwork for the first game of the season and great to get a win on the board. Best player went to Makayla (Boost Juice Award). 17 & Under: A great start to the 2021 season. We combined as a team well, crea ng many good passages of play and transi ons down the court. This led to us having a good lead at the first break. Defensive pressure over the court throughout the game was a highlight forcing many turnovers and scoring opportuni es. Our goalies in Jemma, Charlie and Jarrah shot with accuracy and put into play many of the key structures we have been working on at trainings. Amelia, Kelsi, Mackenzie and Jarrah demonstrated their capacity to be leaders out on court, running the mid-court well and were vital in transi oning the ball to our goalies. Defenders Maddie and Mae played out the game with
NETball club notes significant defensive pressure and strong rebounds. S ll, improvements yet to be made but a great start to the year. Fasta Pasta award went to Maddie Gamble for her relentless efforts in defense. B Reserve: Well done girls, it was tough condi ons to play in for our first game for the season. It was great to have senior netball back a er having 12 months off. We started slowly working on our team game and adjus ng to our new team. A er hal ime, we were ge ng stronger with passing down court and crea ng many turnovers. I could see our team game li as we started to have trust in each other. Keep working hard at training girls and we will see improvements each week. Thanks to Georgia for scoring and Hannah for scoring the B Grade, also Kelly for umpiring. Fast Pasta award went to Mia Grant. B Grade: We started the game off a bit ra led, in a physical compe on that saw us go down by just 3 goals. It was great to see us use, at least once, everything that we have been prac cing over the preseason and see this come into play out on court. A focus during the game was to stop their drives down court and when we did so, we succeeded at winning the last half of play. As a team, we need to work on hi ng the court with the same determina on and want for the ball as we did in the last half. The Boost Juice award went to Madi Wilkinson. A Reserve: What a day for netball girls. A posi ve start to the season. Unfortunately, we didn't come away with a win but we saw some strong passages of play throughout the game, a good founda on for us to work with moving forward. Our award today was from Heaven on a Hanger and went to Larissa for her endless reoffering, strong feeds into the circle and voice on court. Special thanks to Larissa and Courtney for si ng bench and taking the court for us today. Well done girls, we have plenty to work with this season. A Grade: A solid win to start the 2021 season. It is great to see the preseason training paying off and the team pu ng many of the areas we have been working on into play. Great defensive pressure all over the court led to many early turnovers and some accurate shoo ng from our goalies gave us a 12 goal lead at the first break. In the second quarter, the defensive pressure con nued, allowing us to keep Kongorong off the scoreboard. The third quarter saw us step on court fa gued and lacking some mental focus, an area we need to improve on as the season progresses. Although not our best efforts in this quarter it highlighted some key areas to focus on at training next week. Final scores were 47 to 10. Millicent Florist award went to Ann Guye for her consistent pressure and numerous touches in defence.
Junior 2: Good game girls, it was great to be back on the court. Fantas c effort with footwork and let’s con nue that for the rest of the season. First best – Metalworx Award went to Jazzy Haase for constantly having a go throughout the game. Second best went to Emma Burdon for encouraging others across the court and sharing the ball around. Junior 1: Great work by everyone. Best player – Eddie Kuhl Tyres Award went to Emmerson for a lot of great touches. Second best went to Kloe for great shoo ng circle set ups. 13 & Under: Good start to the season from all girls on the court. Mikayla shot really well with great feeding coming from Shae. Each quarter the girls improved on being steady with the ball and making sure if they got a turnover, they scored from it. Violet and Maddy had great intercepts in defence with making sure they put great hand pressure up. Best player for the day – Dycer Construc on Award went to Violet Thorne. 15 & Under: Great game back girls. Lots of nerves at the beginning of the game. Pt Mac applied hard defence from the first siren and maintained it throughout the whole game, while Jorja Owen & Jorja Burdon applied pressure in our defence making Pt Mac work hard for their possession in the goal ring. Third quarter our girls found their drive. Best – Maloney Plumbing Award went to Jorja Owen for great pressure and many turnovers and Jena Jagger who ran the whole game. Well done girls good game. 17 & Under: Well done girls! It was a very tenta ve start, but we got into it eventually and had some really great passages of play. We need to keep working on driving forward, making op ons and keeping our intensity up for the whole game. Our Captain Jorja, played a strong game at GA to earn the DeGaris Lawyers award. Zoe ran hard all day through the centre and was awarded 2nd best (McDonalds), while Caitlin ba led hard in the defensive goal circle and ended up ge ng quite a few touches to earn the encouragement award (Donut King). Let’s come out firing this week! B Reserve: Well done girls - a great first game with lots of changes that we adapted to well. Thanks to Bianca and Zali we were able to fill a side. Lots of great posi ves and things to work on this week. 1st Best – Key 2 Sale Award went to
Angela Tweddle for great drive down the court at centre all game. Second best went to Krystal Owen for great defensive pressure. B Grade: What a way to start the season. With two players away we had a new combina on and I’m very proud that we adapted and implemented what we covered in the preseason. Thanks Nic Hawke and Krystal Owen for benching for us. A strong team effort. Kayla Medhurst best on – sponsored by Planta on Treated Timber and Chloe ‘Captain’ Watson was second best. A Reserve: Well done girls on a great win to start the 2021 season. Each combina on we threw at you, you all worked hard at and made it work, I think our fitness is what let us down the most in that last quarter. Lets work hard together and improve this as the season con nues. Welcome to the club Taitlyn, your first game for the club was great to watch, you combined well with all the different combina ons and shot well in the windy condi ons. Big shout out to Tameka and Chloe for your first full seniors game, your rebounding was strong and both did a great job. Jessie and Candice provided lots of drive and passed with precision into our goalies. 2021 is going to be an exci ng season for this team, we must keep working hard together and be commi ed to trainings to get the results we want. Best players – Taitlyn Rothe (B&P Travel and Cruise Award) and Jessie Gosden. A Grade: Wet and windy condi ons plus our first game all together made for a bit of a scrappy start. But to everyone’s credit we stayed focused and finished the game strong. Well done to Emily who played her first senior game! You did a great job Em and should be very proud of your efforts. Caitlin and Mal moved well together in the circle and shot with accuracy. Sarah had a great game with many mely intercepts down court and provided support and leadership in the defensive end. It was great to have Donna on court a er missing most of the pre season, your work rate is second to none. Also, thank you and well done to Alyce for playing a half of great netball for us. We have come away from round 1 with lots of posi ves and also lots we can work on. Best players – Sarah Edwards (O’Brien Electrical Mt Gambier Award ) and Caitlin Hentschke.

NETball club notes Junior 2: What a brilliant first game from our J2’s. Even though the weather was ordinary they were all so excited to get out there. There was some great passing, leading & intercepts & it really showed they have all been listening at training. We will however be focusing on shoo ng this week lol. A great game from Rhys who done some brilliant intercepts & received the Maccas Encouragement Award & to Neveah who takes all advice on board receiving the Wa le Range Trading Award. It’s so exci ng to watch these li le cu es improve! Junior 1: The first J1 game saw Tant vs Robe. The team did such an amazing job, our flowing passes in the centre between Renae, Tameka and Pippa and Shelbi saw a steady transi on into a ack. Isabella and Emie were accurate in their passes in the circle and showed great poten al as they ba led the strong winds to score. Summer and Peyton were strong defenders, turning over the ball on mul ple occasions. The girls should be so proud of their efforts this week, the teamwork throughout the game was fantas c! Peyton Bowman received the encouragement award from Hungry Jacks, her intercepts were key to our dominance on the court. Looking forward to consolida ng some structure and posi on knowledge. Great team effort! 13 & Under: What an amazing first game the U13 girls had against Robe. We might have lost but we all proved that we have big poten al this season. The tough condi ons meant we had to have strong passes and the girls did an excellent job at this. We have to work on coming forward to the ball to move it down the court easily but this will come in me. The wind made it hard in the goals but we managed to over come it working as a team and encouraging everyone on and off the court. So proud of you girls, you all did such a great job for the first game of the season. Can’t wait to see you girls improve and play great netball! 15 & Under: The nerves got the best of us in the first quarter resul ng in rushed passing. A er this we se led & managed to bring ourselves back into the game, down by 2 at half me. In the second half we started to work as a team, backing each other up & thinking about our passing. Well done girls for bringing yourselves back into the game & coming away with a win. A great start to the year. Dentons Award: Molly Cushion, Tant Canteen Award: Tameisha Walker. Best players Ebony Cytrowski & Molly Cushion. 17 & Under: A er not playing together before and a er a year off, we didn’t get off to a great start. However the girls took on everything we had to say and pulled together a be er 2nd half. The girls adapted to the weather condi ons, changing up our game to suit. With plenty of things to work on at training, let’s work hard to hopefully get a win on the board. Charlo e and Keelie posi oned well in goals, for Madi, Ebony and Megan to feed in to. Tayla, Ella and Holly worked hard in defence crea ng lots of turn overs. Dentons award went to Tayla and the
NETball club notes KFC award went to Ella. Well done girls! B Reserve: We started the game off nervous but strong making Robe work hard for it. For a brand new team everyone worked great together, backing each other up strong. The girls worked hard to adapt to the weather condi ons, well done to goalies who worked hard all day. Although the game finished with a draw, we will be able to come back from it stronger next week. Well done to Kim who worked relessly in defence all game and was responsible for many turnovers and received the Ladies Commi ee tea voucher. Another well done to Lucy, her amazing feeding into the ring and constant backup down the court was fantas c. Lucy received the Fasta Pasta award. Great game girls! B Grade: A good start to the season in some tough condi ons at Robe. A new team and wild weather made for a slow start but once we se led into the game the ball moved well down the court. Bek and Nic moved well in the circle together with great feeding from Kath and Sally. Amy, Krusty, Danni and Leah worked hard in defence ge ng their hands to plenty of balls. Awards went to Amy with McCourts voucher and Nic with Chelsea Feast Makeup voucher. Thanks Jasmine for si ng bench and Hijisa for scoring. A Reserve: What a great way to start the season! This week’s game really complimented all our hard work that we put in over the preseason. Going into this week, everyone was given a job or a something new to implement into their game and I thought each and every one walked away having done that. Defensively, I thought our pressure over the court was great, with second efforts and thirds (even if it was the day for a defender). Going forward I think we need to con nue to work on our game, making sure we capitalise on turnovers and aim to ensure we are maintaining consistency for 4 quarters. Best players this week went to Georgia Clarke and Lucy Barber, but a great game had by all in such condi ons! Let’s come out firing next week girls! A Grade: First game of the season and we came away with a great win. We knew that with such a long me off it was going to take a while to adjust and get back into the swing of things. However, the girls played hard as a team and combined well all over the court. There was lots of talk and the second efforts were excellent! Simone and Kate played a ripper game and got so many touches along with Alex and Vic. Casey and Vic were strong in a ack and played 4 strong, consistent quarters. With windy condi ons we knew it wasn’t a goalies game but Em made the most of every opportunity and was a target in the ring. A solid effort this week girls, lots of things to work on but there were more posi ves to take from this week’s game. This week’s awards went to Alex Lucas New Heaven Indian and Simone Li le Chelsea Feast Makeup. Alex was also selected as player of the round so well done!
Junior 2: Very proud of the whole team for our first game and lots of posi ves to come out of it. Zayley ran well down the court and called for the ball. Zoe and Claire did some great intercepts and had great voice down the court. Holly did a great job on reading the play and ge ng her hands up. Great defending by Lily and Claire took some great intercepts. Alyssa did a great job of ge ng her hands on the ball and Adele and Isabelle brought great enthusiasm to the court. Keep listening and learning at training. Awards: Holly - Fasta Pasta and Zoe - Hungry Jacks. Junior 1: Great effort for our first game. Awards: Lacy - Fasta Pasta and Sophie - Hungry Jacks. 13 & Under: As a new team, our girls should be very proud of their first round efforts. Some playing posi ons they don't necessarily love but tried their best anyway. Our midcourt played a strong game for the whole 4 quarters, special men on to Grace (C) and Holly (WD) they did not stop running from the first centre pass un l the final whistle and as a coach you cant ask for more than that! Our shooters moved well in the circle and were supported well with the midcourt back up. The weather gods were kind in terms of rain however we are pu ng in an order for less wind as that picked up it felt every me we went for goal. We all had fun and that is the aim and I feel our score didn't reflect the efforts made. Awards: Holly A will Fasta Pasta and Ruby Carrigan Hungry Jacks. 15 & Under: Good to be back on the courts again. As the game went on it was good to see the improvement, great teamwork, all the girls played well. Awards: Thalia - Fasta Pasta and Kyla Hungry Jacks. 17 & Under: Not the best weather for the first game but it was great to see the excitement on the girls’ faces as they warmed up for their first game for 2021. Taylah, Milla and Marnee worked hard in defence, consistently turning over balls and applying pressure over their a ackers. Kate and Skye worked very well in the midcourt together pu ng on strong drives and feeding well into the circle. Zara and Pheobe worked relessly in the shoo ng circle, making great movement through the a acking half. Unfortunately the girls did lose the game but a lot of things were
picked up that will be easy fixes to work on at trainings. Well done girls! Awards: Marnee - Lima and Co, Kate - Fasta Pasta. B Reserve: Fantas c first game we only lost by 9. You all put in your best effort and we only need to work on our throws and not to play too fast. You should all be proud of your first game. Tamika worked so well with her rebounds and overall defence and Reanna shot well and posi oned well. Tamika Mullan - F45, Reanna Baldwin – She's Apples. B Grade: Well what a great first game we had. The team worked really well in a acking with Mahli and Emma working well together to get some tricky shots in. Mid court flowed well with everyone pu ng in huge effort. Defensive work from Billie and Renae was enough to hold onto our lead and win by 3 goal. Well done to all the girls. Looking forward to a strong year ahead. Awards: Mahli - F45 and Billie - Lima and Co. A Reserve: Great start to the season. We witnessed some great passages of play and connec ons down the court. Great defence by Nat & Alicia in the circle, with Georgia's ge ng ps and touches around the circle edge. Kaylah & Bri moved well and making space in the circle, and great support and feeding by Megan, Heidi & Rach. Awards: Kaylah (She's Apples) & Alicia (F45). A Grade: Mount Burr started confidently, scoring the first 3 goals. Mount Burr’s defence proved too strong for Kongorong forcing them to make errors in their leads and passes. NETball club notes We played our first games at Hatherleigh and came up against some tough opposi on in all grades, we proved we were very compe ve and played hard. Well done to all the teams and we will see some wins on the board soon. For the first me ever, we have decided to acknowledge our players milestone games. We were lucky enough to have 3 on the first game. Congrats to Tahlia Wilson on 100 senior games, Bri any Dycer on 150 senior games and Carly Ploenges on 150 senior games, all very important and dedicated club people. Unfortunately, we did not walk away without an injury. Heidi Telford we are all wishing you a speedy recovery. Nangwarry Netball Club would also like to thank our Pla num sponsors that have come on board so far. Thanks to CKK, Village Pharmacy and Highway Mechanical. Lastly on our first game of the year we would like to honour our Life Member Jenny Perry who passed away last year during COVID. Jenny was a big part of the Nangwarry Netball and Football Clubs earning life membership for both clubs. We would like to see all players wearing black armbands this week to remember and honour her. Let’s all get out there this week and get some wins. Good luck and go Saints! Juniors: Well done on our first game of the season, we welcome a lot of new faces. Great defence down the court, a few things to work on but I can see great poten al in all of you. Looking forward to a great season. Best player and Fasta Pasta award James Petrie. 13 & Under: How good is it being back at netball and football? Everyone was excited, weather was great, and we had a well umpired great sportsmanship game to start the season. Welcome Elycia, Analeigh and CJ who are new players to Nangwarry. Great having you. Very impressed with our first game. Although our first quarter let us down and we were outscored by six shots, the next three quarters were even. Skye and Elycia combined well in goals with Elycia domina ng the scoring with 13 of our goals. CJ got be er every quarter and I am looking forward to his development in the coming weeks. Kaylee and Madison created many turnovers in defence and rebounded well. Kiara and Skye ran hard and got many intercep ons being well supported by Holly who used her speed and drove well. Thank you, Paige, and Ella, for si ng bench. We have lots to work on but very happy to see you all giving your best and listening to what I am asking you to try. Best players and Hungry Jack's award Kiara Epiha and Skye Virtanen. Looking forward to welcoming Gemma to our team. 15 & Under: First game done and dusted. A huge effort from all of you against a very skilled team. First quarter released a lot of nerves as the girls worked out on the court what worked best from them. The second and third quarter were our best. A lot of intercepts and very impressive passages of play. A few things to work on at training but overall a great start to the season. Congratula ons to our Best on Court in Skylah Petrie who received the Athlete’s Foot award. 17 & Under: Welcome to all our new players, past players, and families it was great to finally get back out and play netball. Thanks heaps to the girls who filled in for us we did not have an easy
NETball club notes game to start the season, but you all went out and gave it a go. Hold your heads high and come out and improve on the li le things because in me our game will improve more. We all need to talk more on the court and listen at quarter mes and training. Thanks heaps to our team manager/ first aider Bec and scorer Ashlee and assistant Ellie. We do really appreciate the help because many hands make light work for us all. Best players Tannayah $10 Pines Hotel award Skye F $5 coach’s award B Reserve: For our first game back we faced a very strong Hatherleigh with most girls returning from 2019 we went out and tried our very best. A ack to defence everyone kept going, but unfortunately, we couldn’t convert. With one of our goalies away we had to change and adapt to different op ons throughout the court. Megan stepped into goal a ack and goal shooter a er an unfortunate injury to Heidi or versa le player. Our fourth quarter things fell into place, even though it was nice to see but it was too late in the game as Hatherleigh sealed the deal early with a strong lead. Our new addi on Amy Whitehouse and Maxi Smith came away with our first and second best for their con nuous great play and brilliant teamwork. Hopefully, next week we can add to the good work we achieved this week, well done to all that played. B Grade: How good was it to be back out on the court? This year we have a completely new B Grade team with lots of amazing a ributes. We started the game strong going goal for goal for the fist 10 minutes but unfortunately, we lacked that thing called netball fitness that saw us become quite lazy and not moving or passing to our advantage and this con nued for the rest of the game. However, this is something we can work on at trainings and personally. The posi ves from the game far outweighed the nega ves and this is something I want you all to remember. Jemma played an amazing game at goal defence her intercepts and drive is something that will see has become very compe ve as the season pans out. Meighan held her own at goal shooter and I look forward to us as a team u lising her netball knowledge and ability to own the circle. Ella you smile is radia ng and I want to see more of that posi ve a tude. Best player and the Athlete’s Foot award Jemma Glynn and Meighan Trestrail. A Reserve: Such a good start and so many good passages. All over the court it was open with plenty of space and room to drive. Watching you many would have thought it was close. Just li le errors let us down but nothing we cannot work on at training. Everyone gave 120% and never gave up which was great. Just need to work on our feeding and passing. Congrats to Tahlia on her 100 senior games and Bri on her 150 senior games. Hope Hayley recovers quickly from her ankle injury. Best player and the Pines Hotel award Hayley Vanderhorst. A Grade: Not the start we hoped to have against a strong Hatherleigh ou it. We had so many good patches and if we can do that for 4 full quarters you will be surprised at the score line. Once we work on the li le things everything will come together and we will see results. S ll a great first hit out with a completely new team, let’s see us work harder this week against Robe. Best player and the Jens award Hayley Burner.
Junior 2: The weather really turned it on for the girls to learn what it’s like to play a winter sport, with that being said they all got out there and put in 110%. This year is the very first me any of these girls have played netball and they all did so well, with a few stacks but all ge ng back up and ge ng straight back in there. Can’t wait to watch the growth over the remainder of the season. Incen ve: Livia Jess (Steve’s Place), for her great effort all game and going hard for the ball every chance she got. Awesome work girls. Junior 1: Today was such a great day for you girls to put on your new dresses and have some fun. The weather held off during the game it was nice to play 4 full quarters and blow off some nerves a er such a long me without sport. With some new girls added to our Junior 1 side, this season I can already see that you are going to work well together and have many fun Saturdays. Incen ve: Mills Roach (Sea Vu Caravan Park) for having great focus and really working hard on her passes. Chocolate award: Siarrah Denning, for playing her 1st game ever today and giving it 100%. Well done everyone. 13 & Under: Robe 30 Tant 8. A windy and awfully hard day to play netball for both sides. Our first quarter we came out firing, with Maddie shoo ng amazingly in the wind. Millie, Meg and Demi were strong throughout the midcourt providing strength and consistency that Tantanoola could not match. Hannah led in front and passed beau fully into the ring. Allira, Olivia C and Olivia B’s defence was hard to beat and Kaitley provided toughness in and around the ring. Overall a great first win for our girls. We will work on clearing out and making strong leads this week in the lead up to our next game. Awards went to Maddie Varga (The Project) and Hannah Arrend (Robe Seafood & Takeaway). 15 & Under: Robe 18 Tant 32. Not a bad first effort considering your coach was insistent in trailing a few combos in the first game. You all had some good quarters personally which was nice to see and you gave 100% and never dropped your heads, just as I asked. This week we work on our hot potatoes, keeping our balance, making strong leads and making good decisions on where to pass the ball. Best Player went to Georgie Wirth (Mahalia Coffee) and Incen ve went to Tilly Yeo (The Project). 17 & Under: Robe 31 Tant 13. What a game! Fantas c team game played by all. We all implemented what we have been working on at training and what a difference it made on the court. We found the space and were confident with our passes. We dropped a li le in the last of each quarter which is just a li le bit of fitness which we can work on and improve. Very proud of you all! Best player and player of the round went to Ella Mackey (Burger Co. Robe) – who played with such maturity and composure it was a pleasure to watch. Incen ve went to Billie Carter (The Pastry Place), for solid defence, talk and great backing up. B Reserve: Robe 19 Tant 19. What a ripper of an effort for our first game. You all gave your best and when our
leads got a bit scrappy in the 2nd quarter you adjusted and worked hard to rec fy it as a team. I’d have to say the blend of young and old works pre y bloody good. Pat on the back all round girls. Calcu a to legend Alison Nunan (Me & Miss Jone), great at both ends and a brilliant leader on the court for others. My incen ve went Olivia Valente (Hook & Harvest), new to the club, I was very pleased with how she is cemen ng her posi on in WD improving her game further from Thursday night training. We may have ended in a draw, but the B-Reezers can hold their heads high with this one. B Grade: Robe 25 Tant 49. Condi ons weren’t op mal for our season opener against Tant, the wind was not favourable and we did well to give 100% throughout the game. We had some great passages of play, and as a team we have welcomed a few new girls to town into our team. We will con nue to improve and learn how to read each other as we play more games together. Emma and Marley worked well in goals together, and the mid court girls worked hard all day. We tried a few different combina ons in the defensive end throughout the game. We created a lot of turnover, but need to be sure to look a er them and do our best to convert them onto the scoreboard. I’m so impressed with everyone’s posi vity on and off the court and con nual encouragement of each other. Calcu a went to Emma (Mahlia Coffee) and Incen ve went to Sophie P (The Pastry Place) for adap ng to all the posi on changes I threw her way. A Reserve: Robe 21 Tant 37. Some great signs with a bunch of all newbies. Considering only two members of the team had played together in the past we had a great day out on the court. The first quarter there were some nerves (to be expected) and lots of excitement as well which resulted in a bit of a messy start. A er this we pulled it together a lot more, improving each quarter. As we progressed we began to slow down, move into the space, back each other up, talk and gain trust in one another. The defensive pressure down the en re court was great – with no one giving up. Calcu a went to Keelin (Original Skin Clinic) who really found her feet in WA, providing lots of strong leads and direc on. Incen ve went to Ali (Burger Co Robe) who really proved herself in defence today ge ng lots of touches to the balls and providing endless defensive pressure. Thanks girls – you all did a really great job! A Grade: Robe 32 Tant 46. A great start in the first quarter with accurate shoo ng from Tori and Sarah in windy condi ons, being down by 1 goal at quarter me. The second quarter was tough and we let Tantanoola run away with a 10 goal lead at half me. Kim and Keryn changed posi ons at half me, which se led the a ack line. Alannah had a great defensive game with lots of pressure all over the court, Kimberley and Hannah both did injuries and Georgia and Belle came on and filled the posi ons well. Calcu a went to Alannah (Loaves & Fishes) and Incen ve went to Kim (The Caledonian Inn).
ROUND 1 A GRADE NETBALL REVIEW Robe v Tantanoola A ght tussle in the first quarter, with the wind making it tough for both goalies. Robe’s defence and Tantanoola’s a ack line bodying up well and making the most of rebounding in the windy weather. Tantanoola being up by a goal at quarter me. In the second quarter Tantanoola came out firing with Kate Bromley and Simone Li le ge ng their hands to lots of balls and Emma Gould and Jamie Walker ge ng their eye in and pushing ahead to extend their lead by 10 at half me. The third quarter saw Robe find their feet with Kim Ross and Keryn Moore swapping posi ons and se ling in Robe’s a ack line, with both teams scoring 10 goals for the quarter. Kimberley Aus n went down with a knee and Georgia Perkins filled the GK posi on. The last quarter saw more injuries for Robe, with Hannah Perkins disloca ng her shoulder. Tantanoola finished the game off strong with accurate shoo ng and lots of pressure down the court. Tantanoola took the win 46 to 32. Best Players for Robe were Alannah Campbell and Kim Ross, for Tantanoola they were Simone Li le and Alex Lucas. Glencoe v Port MacDonnell In wet and windy condi ons the first half of netball was a ght contest between the two teams. Glencoe have a new look line up in the goal circle with Malinda Markiewicz and Caitlan Hentschke and they had their work cut out for them against the Bay’s defenders, Morgan Amy (new to the league) and Lisa McGregor. Henstschke and Markiewicz showed signs of nerves in the first quarter giving Amy and McGregor plenty of rebounding opportuni es. Michelle Moore drove hard for the Bay but was cut short on many occasions by Sarah Edwards mely intercepts through the middle. When Pt MacDonnell were able to get the ball to their goalies, Brooke Williams and Kirby Carrison they shot with 100% accuracy for the first quarter. Glencoe went into the first break 4 goals up.
Donna Jaeschke and Ashlea Edwards struggled to find space in the second against their opponents Moore and Jess Trench, but when they did, they were able to feed their goalies with precision. On the other wing, Glencoe’s Bec Edwards and Port Mac’s Narelle Lewis had a ght tussle all day. Glencoe’s GK Emily Thompson was able to find her feet in the second and came away with some goal circle intercepts. Pt MacDonnell won the second quarter by 2 goals. Coming into the third, Glencoe brought on Alyce Finnis into Centre, while Pt Mac remained unchanged. Finnis played a great half of netball for Glencoe, combining well with Ashlea Edwards and fed her goalies with accuracy. Moore fought hard for Pt MacDonnell all game in the middle and contested every ball that came her way, trying to give her team the li they needed, but Sarah Edwards used her speed well and along with Bec Edwards they were able to turnover the ball in favour of their team on many occasions. Markiewicz rewarded them shoo ng 9 from 9 for the quarter. Glencoe went into the last break 10 goals up. Pt MacDonnell swapped their defence posi ons for the last quarter and Carrison held well all game in GS, trying to li her team with lots of talk on court and shoo ng well all game, but Glencoe con nued to play pa ent netball and came away with an 11 goal victory. Kongorong v Mount Burr Mount Burr started confidently, scoring the first 3 goals. Mount Burr’s defence of Madi Hagget and Heidi Clark proved too strong for Kongorong forcing them to make errors in their leads and passes. Mt Burr showed some good court plays with the mid court of Ella Fal ng, Laura Schutz and Ann Guye providing great drive through the mid court. Kongorong se led in the second quarter and showed signs of improvement. Kongorong’s defence of Emily Lightbody, Ella McIntyre and Riley Buckingham worked relessly but missed shots at the other end proved costly giving Mt Burr a 26 to 1 lead at half me. Half me saw Kongorong bring young gun
Zara VonStanke into WA who combined well with Centre Sarah Beare to create more scoring opportuni es making it their best scoring quarter. The final quarter saw both teams struggle with redness, but Mt Burr rallied and worked hard to finish the game taking the win, 47 to 10. Best players - Kongorong: Ella McIntyre and Emily Lightbody; Mt Burr: Ann Guye and Ebony Clark. Hatherleigh v Nangwarry Hatherleigh have started the long-awaited year off with a 51-goal win over Nangwarry. The Eagles jumped out of the blocks with a very strong start, Lara MacGregor turning over plenty of ball for her side early on. The first break saw Hatherleigh rotate their bench and try different combina ons in their defence line. Nangwarry got a few back on the board quickly, with Kylie Heaver moving well and crea ng good space in the goal circle for the Saints. The home side swi ly moved any loose ball or rebound down court fast to capitalise. Going into the main break it was all the Eagles way, once again they went to the bench and changed their defence line. Every combina on seemed to work well for them, Maddie Pulmer was all hands in the defence with plenty of touches and intercepts. Sarah Faulkner and Hayley Burner ran well all game through middle, providing plenty of drive and defensive pressure. Hatherleigh con nued to build and extend their lead, the a acking combina on of Keston Green and Lacey Haines was forming well. Nangwarry showed plenty of fight through all four quarters, their defence worked hard all game to create plenty of opportuni es for their side. The last quarter saw a few changes for Nangwarry, however Hatherleigh con nued to push and finished off taking the points in their first game of the season. Best players - Hatherleigh: Lara MacGregor & Sarah Faulkner; Nangwarry: Cassie Dinnison & Hayley Burner.
