football club notes
Junior Colts: Well! What a game to start the season. The young Roosters and Tigers produced a real 4 quarter arm wrestle. A er leading for most of the game our boys were ‘run over’ in the last quarter, eventually losing by 7 points. They were disappointed, and so was I for them, because they really did try their hardest. Every game, we ask the lads to give everything they have got to each contest that they are involved in. They did that, but in the end, it wasn’t good enough to be victorious. Post-game, we iden fied a couple of things that we will work on during the week, then come out firing against Glencoe. We had a long list of contributors; the more consistent throughout the whole game were: Byron, Daniel, Reid, Dylan and Nate. ‘Cede Nullis’!
Senior Colts: Well that’s the first game done and dusted, a narrow loss to Tant but it was a great effort by the boys with a couple of our guns out it was great to see everyone step up a er a slow start it was encouraging to see us play the game out and implement what we have been working on at training. Best for the day went to John, Myles, Kaiden, Archie and Byron with Levi ge ng the coaches gong for his first game for the club. Cheers, Leroy
B Grade: It is always good to get the first game of the year out of the way! Especially being a B grade coach. We had a very convincing win over Tantanoola by 113 points, credit to Tant, they had a young team and will build as
the season con nues. Standout players included Paddy, Fouldsy, Dawson, Tom Miller and Ollie Bennet. There where many more but can’t list them all as it was a great team effort. Paddy was best on with 2nd, 3rd and 4th efforts all day Fouldsy kicked 5 from centre half forward and Disco (Fossil) also kicked 5 for a great day out. Both the co-captains Huebner and Birdy showed great leadership and performed well all day. Welcome to Monty, Ollie, Fletch, Brodie and Kyle Hampell for first games for the club or returning a er some me away. I cannot fault the way everyone played. Plenty of first gives and fast ball movement that made it exci ng to watch. As a coaching group (Roly Day and myself), we are looking forward to the year ahead. Cheers, Antony

We welcomed our friends from Hatherleigh to our home deck for round one. Thank you Ben Young, the ground was in magnificent condi on. Congratula ons to Dylan Pfitzner playing 100 A grade games, he has been a great contributor. A massive thank you to our new major sponsor this season Dycer Construc ons. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Under 12: A great li le bunch of kids star ng their football journeys. We stretched the field then stretched it again with great numbers for both clubs. The was played in great spirit with some classy goals kicked.
senior colts
Junior Colts: A new look Junior Colts team with the loss of 13 premiership players moving up and u lity Hamish Gordon away represen ng Glenelg. Hatherleigh looked slick from the get go scoring goals at will, as we warmed into the game and the nerves cooled down, we had some great passages despite not bothering the score board. Best players were Max Earl, Annabelle Gordan, Jake Sinkunas, Max Jantosh, Jasmine Haase.
junior colts
Reserves: Ben Pie Hentschke has had some relief taken off his shoulders with some be er numbers and depth for the Reserves squad, not having to rely on the Senior Colts to field a team. With a lot of returning and new players the group was op mis c and played a slick ou it with the first half being a decent contest. Hatherleigh's run was too great and they literally ran away with it in the second half. Best players for the day were new recruit Tom Jurkovic giving 100% effort from the midfield, next was Jason Bates, Jayson Finnis, Ben Hentschke, Mitch Li le playing an excellent game on an experienced player and Dane Paproth kicking 4.
Seniors: Reece Duncan's first game as head coach and a bunch of debutants for our A grade made for an excellent game. Hatherleigh started the first term kicking inaccurately and as the nerves cooled; we were able to convert three for the term with Isaac Mulraney making the most of his chances kicking two in the term and finishing with three for the day The second term was played on our term with some slick ball movement and controlling the ball we managed to finish the term 17 points up at the main break. Hatherleigh fought back in the third with both teams going goal to goal. Three quarter me it was anyone's game. Pa y Mitchell had his kicking boots on slo ng one from the visitor's box finishing the day with five. Hatherleigh used their experience and finished strongly with a 14 point win. Best players were Zacc Cocks, Captain Dylan Childs, 100 gamer Dylan Pfitzner, Brodie Glynn, Pa y Mitchell and Aiden Hurley.
Senior Colts: What a day for the senior colts. The boys have had a big summer, everyone has shot up and everyone was keen as mustard. From the start we controlled the ball with some slick movement although struggling to kick truly. The game was a great tussle between two talented teams. A massive congratula ons to our teammate Lachy Brierley on debu ng for the Glenelg U16 team! Best players were Jed Sinkunas, new recruit Max Whitehead, Tighe Skim Hurley, Patrick Lang-Smith with 3 goals. See you at the seaside.

A Grade: First game of the year, we knew it was going to be a tough game against Glencoe as it was their home ground. 1st quarter got off to a good start with us having plenty of the footy. Had a lot of good looks at goal however our finishes were off and we couldn't seem to hit the score board like we should've. 2nd quarter Glencoe controlled the whole quarter and bet us around the ground which showed on the score board with them out scoring us by 5 goals. The boys had a lot more fire in the second half of the game with more consistency around the whole ground and playing be er together as a team. This led to a 14 point win by the boys.

B Grade: Football’s back and it's always good to win the first one. We have a very different looking side this season, with a lot of young talent stepping up, and they didn't disappoint on Saturday against a tough Glencoe side. Tyson Atkinson named best on, having a field day in the middle. Je Faulkner second best, li le running machine. Jack Marino started where he le of last season superb across half back. Muff kicked 4 up forward, Bre Watson round out the best with a very good game in the middle. Well done to Ma y Faulkner ge ng the chance to play alongside his son, a special moment for the lads and the club.
Senior Colts: We went down to Glencoe for the opening round. The boys have had a good preseason and were very excited to get going for 2024. Glencoe were a quality side all
day and ended up with the win but we took it to them the en re game. The boys struggled to find the scoreboard early and also ended up having a rough run with injuries and ended up with no available players on the bench. Besides the outcome it was a good first hit out and we will go again next week. 1st Best Dentons Sportspower award went to Huddy Nowak, having a great game down back. 2nd Best Stumpy Award was Jordy Acky, always in and under and went all day. Third Best Gino's Pizza award was Aussie Ne le, a barometer when we needed him up forward kicking a couple snags. 4th, The ladies commi ee award went to a young fella Coaden Taylor. Has had a great preseason with the Seniors and it showed all game. 5th, the Pete Walter's Award went to a first gamer in Jason Saunders, fought hard all day and didn't give up! Onto Kongorong next round.
Under 11: For the first week back it was amazing to see the kids put all the skills we had been prac sing into a game. There were many good efforts and some great plays. Jameson Bateman (Denton's Sport power), Paddy Bowering (Toy Kingdom), Mavea Ellis (Hatherleigh Ladies Commi ee), and Archie Clark (Sco Redman Award) all played well and showed great team spirit in the opening round. Well done.

A decent start to the season today as we took on a very slick Mt Burr side at the home of the Hawks. Unfortunately not too many wins on the board for us over both netball and footy but a promising start to the season with a group of new coaches and players. Next week we look forward to making the trip to Hatherleigh.
Notes and awards for round 1 are follows:
Under 11: We welcomed Mount Burr for the first game of the season. It was good to see we kept all the kids from last year and we welcome Cooper and his family to the team. The kids are another year older and with all their hard work at training this certainly was shown for their first game. They had clean hands and the delivery of the ball was impressive to watch for this age group. They all gave 100% whether they played for Kongorong or Mount Burr. Thank you to Peter McKenzie for umpiring. Awards went to Rooster Aikenhead (Intersport), Coby Brant (Presidents), Cooper Jenkin (Coaches), Ryder Telford (Brant Family), Nash Brant (Club Award) and Bill Ellis (Donut King).
Auskick was played at hal ime and for this young group it was their first game of footy. They were all very excited and keen to get their hands on the ball. Awards went to Prue Harding (Club award) and Kingsley Morgan (Donut King).
Junior Colts: The kid's had a tough task for their first game of the year. With Mount Burr only having 10 kid's we decided to give them 4 of our own and played 14 a side. We rotated the kids every quarter to make it fair for everyone and in doing so gave Mt Burr the advantage in the last quarter. I was happy with everyone's efforts on the day and can see that we can only get be er each game. Awards went to Connor Gordon, Koby Galloway, Angus Maidment, Havana Beard, Ivy Trigg and Jordan Collins.
Senior Colts: Round 1 saw us commence our season at home against a formidable opponent in Mt. Burr Enthusiasm was high with a number of new faces joining us in the off-season keen to pull on the yellow and black guernsey with their mates. Our enthusiasm translated into some good early contests, pressuring Mt. Burr and forcing turnovers. While we had a good share of the footy, we were unable to convert those turnovers into meaningful scoring opportuni es with a disciplined Mt. Burr outnumbering us ahead of the ball and some loose
checking post turnover giving them plenty of free players to hit up. With an inability to put any scoreboard pressure on our opponents, and maintain good field posi on, our intensity around the contest dropped off with fa gue, and Mt. Burr were able to handball and run away from stoppage. The ability to get their handball game going gave their forwards be er delivery and saw them compile a very accurate 19.5 to 0.2. Our group will take a great deal of experience from the ou ng and look forward to the opportunity that presents next week. Values award winners: Blake Telford, Ryan Lucas, Harrison Elletson, Bam Kent, Toby McKinnon, Ma hew Aarts.
B Grade: This was a typical B grade round 1 game. Lots of effort, not a lot of fitness. We created lots of chances but our lack of training together meant we turned the ball over a lot and couldn’t finish off up forward as well as we would have liked. Full credit to Mount Burr, they created lots of pressure and used the ball well. Proud of our guys for digging in when it got tough and finding a way to get the win whilst s ll learning how each other plays. Marty Von Stanke was best (Collins Court Butchers), Sjaakie was next best (Commercial Hotel), Brad Long 3rd (Commercial Hotel), Dom Von Stanke 4th (Commercial Hotel), Dan Hann 5th (Commercial Hotel), Andrew Telford 6th (Commercial Hotel). Hopefully we get a few on the track this week and everyone goes to the Commercial Hotel on a non training night.
A Grade: The scoreline didn't reflect our improvements as a team, but a promising start to the year. Mt Burr had plenty of run but the boys never gave in. Unfortunately loosing Bryn in the first quarter certainly didn't help and we wish him all the best with his recovery. It was good to have young Blake Telford up for his first A Grade game and he held his own. Keen to get over to Hatherleigh for round two. Best players went to Tom Hunter (Collin’s Court Butcher), Elliot Modra (The Commercial Hotel), Tyrone Rayner (The Commercial Hotel), Will Vickery (The Commercial Hotel), Corben O’Dea (The Commercial Hotel) and Joel Maconachie (Pick Ave Deli).
Thank you to everyone who stuck around for Shuffle Night. Next home game we suit up in our best ou its for Hawktoberfest! If you haven’t already, see Will Vickery or Cohen Janeway for your ckets. Go Hawks!

Junior Colts: What a terrific start to the season for the Mt Burr junior colts. We had a slow start to the game but in the second half we came home with wet sails and the fitness of the boys really came through. With a big last quarter we sealed the game with a win. Best on ground was: Reed with a real captain’s effort. 2nd & 3rd best was: The Joseph brothers with their run all day in the guts. Looking forward to seeing the boys shine bright during golden hour with our late start this week for our night round. Frazer Johnston
Senior Colts: With a solid preseason under their belts our senior colts were keen to get out and play their first game of the year together. The boys played very well together as a team bringing all players in to the game to record a comfortable win. Some great performances from Jimmy Li le and Finn Woolston who have both moved up from mini colts in their first games. Blake Brant, Lucas & Dallas Montouri were all solid at both ends of the ground and performed well. We were glad to have our new players Harrison Thwaites, Tyler & Declan Richardson, Dylan Sigston, Max Hunt & Noah Cockrum join us this
B Grade: Kongorong at Kongorong in Round 1 always looked to be a difficult first match up and that’s exactly how it turned out. Their bigger experienced players controlled the first half and despite going into half me without kicking a major, we were only 3 goals behind. In the second half we started to get our running game going but couldn’t make head roads into the lead that had already been established. Best players were Bradley Sco who also kicked 2 goals, DJ, Rooster, Horse, Teags, Ed & Thwaitsey Thanks to everyone who helped out. We look forward to this week’s night game at home against Kalangadoo.
A Grade: It was great to finally hit round 1 running a er a long pre season. We started a bit shaky, making a few skill errors and turning the ball over too easily. A er quarter me we had full control of the game, with most blokes winning their posi ons. Sam Wallis was brilliant down back all day backed up nicely by his brother, Josh, and Dylan Ridley was doing his thing through the midfield. Overall, a great start to the season, which we can hopefully con nue to build on and improve as we go.
Congratula ons to Jake Whi y, Tyler Richardson and Declan Richardson on making your A grade debut for the club.

football club notes
A er it seemed a few short weeks ago we were celebra ng the success of the 2023 season for our 2 senior sides we kicked off the 2024 season down the Bay in perfect condi ons for football. With Lynsey s ll at the helm for the seniors and Aidan stepping in to the reserves coaching role and the welcoming of some new players and some past players back in to the black & white. Graham is looking a er the senior colts and Macca is once again taking the junior colts with plenty of numbers and Boxy con nues to develop our youngest group of future champions with huge success and we are all excited about the future when watching the young charges strut their stuff
2024 has seen huge support for our Junior Football Club with many game day & award sponsors jumping on board. As a club it would be great to support those who support our juniors.
Thanks goes to Autocare Mt Gambier, Rarcoola Structural, The Rocks Shop, MT Wheels & 3MP as game day sponsors and weekly award sponsors in – The Roadhouse, Country A tude, Spot On, Bunnings, Aussie Disposals, Sorrentos, OK Pie Shop, KD's Deli, Intersport, Donut King, Wendy's, McDonald’s, Compton Street Bakers Delight & Boost Juice.
Under 11: Boxy’s young'uns kicked off footy for season 2024 in style and shows the con nual growth & development that comes with quality coaching and enthusiasm from kids loving their football. While a few from 2023 went up to junior colts numbers remain strong for 2024 and it's well worth making the effort to get to games by 9 to watch our minis strut their stuff. A huge thank you to our game day awards sponsors in Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Donut King & Compton Street Baker’s Delight with the awards going to Ollie, Harvey, Finn, Micheal, Ollie E & Billie.
Junior Colts: The Junior Colts with the welcome addi on of some fresh faces are looking forward to season 2024 and got off to a flyer in the 1st scoring the 1st goal and looked to match up evenly around the ground with scores at the break even between both sides. 2nd qtr saw a ght tussle with the Bay registering the only major and taking a 6-point lead in at the half. The bay came out full of run in the 3rd and kicked away to a 5-goal lead at the final break. Our young Maggies fought hard in the last to find some run and link up but just couldn't get the score on the board. Macca has a great group of players to work with and have no doubt we will see plenty of W's throughout 2024. Best players went to Jack Barry – Spot On, Nathaniel Cooper –Bunnings, Harvey Gull – OK Pie Shop & William Cary – Baker’s Delight.
Senior Colts: Going to be a tough year for our senior colts with low numbers because of some short sightedness from neighbouring league but the guys are working hard to make sure we get a game each week. A massive thanks to a few North lads who donned the Black and White for the game and to Steve & Ned from Pt Mac working in and loaning several players to make sure a game was played. The 4 quarters were played in good spirits and
some quality footy played, and the colts will be heavily reliant on bye clubs each week for a few players and working in with opposi on sides. Best players went to – Axel Page in 1st game for the club – The Roadhouse, Jack Barry – Country A tude, Kade Allen – KD's Deli, Seb Doody – OK Pie Shop, Hector Opie – Aussie Disposals.
Reserves: Under new coach in Aidan Auld, we saw a few new & old faces in the B's for season 2024 with a good mix of experience and youth through the line up. The Maggies jump out of the block in the 1st registering 20-point lead at the 1st break and con nuing the run through the second to hold a handy lead at the main break. As always, the Bay fought back hard in the 3rd & 4th quarter to narrow the margin, but the boys held tough and ended up with a reasonably comfortable win in the end by 27 points. Best players went to ever reliable Reevsey, Ky McKenna in first senior game for the club, stalwart and evergreen Chrissy Mules, Liam Carlson, 1st game for the club & senior colt Axel Page & seasoned ruckman Johnny Mules.
Seniors: With the welcome addi on to a few new faces over summer in Robbie (Rocket) Hein & Jackson Meyers (Mysie) the senior line up looked to be reasonably se led even though there were a few regular A graders unavailable. A er a strong preseason Lynsey was excited to present Nater his guernsey as he made his senior debut as a 15 year old and we wish him all the best as he finds his feet through the season. Pt Mac were the first to se le into the game and made all the early running playing their ground to maximum efficiency while the Maggies were a li le undisciplined early. The mids were working well and the backline led by Jut & Jaggs were holding fast with plenty of the ball in our defensive 50. The 1st break the Maggies down by 12 points. The second qtr was a repeat of the 1st with the Maggies taking a li le while to se le in but with Connor presen ng well across half forward, Sam & Tye reading well of Robbie we managed to hold the Bay and score a couple of goals later to only be 20 points down at the main break. Lynsey asked for a li in the 3rd and the Bay jumped away early registering the first 3 in quick succession and this seemed to wake us up and kick start the quick ball movement and run around the ground and with 4 late goals in that quarter put some scoreboard pressure back on to the Bay who had skipped away to a 37 point lead at the final break. The last quarter saw the Maggies hold the Bay to the single goal as the run & carry began to shine through and the natural game that Lynsey has been working on came to the fore. There was plenty of pressure on the ball carriers crea ng turnovers and run through space buut just could register through the big s cks kicking 2.5 for the final term to 1.3 and a final margin of 29 points. Best players went to Jaggs Pra , Connor Gen le, Sammy McManus, Ethan Maney, Robbie Hein & Tye McManus.
Next up we head to the Burr under lights in what should be a great night as we look to bounce back and learn from last week.

A Grade: Port MacDonnell 16.10 def Kalangadoo 11.11. Here we are again at the start of another season! The excitement was palpable around the ground as our “Family League” come together for the first game. Crowd numbers made the venue look like a grand final which was excep onally pleasing and boosted by the fact that the new Limestone Coast League starts next week. Josh Woodall as a playing coach retains control of the A's and looks to build on last season's efforts despite some key player losses to work commitments and loca on moves. Tim Sullivan has taken on the mantle of Captain with Ned Wilke as VC, both players showing their strength and passion for the club and bringing a youthful vigor to side. The first quarter was very evenly matched, but we managed to gain a slight lead over the Magpies and the pressure con nued right throughout the game. Master of the ruck and midfield, Will Macdonald dominated the ball and his persistence in bringing the ball forward was duly noted on the scoreboard, earning him the BOG. Colby Munro in 2nd, was unstoppable through the centre and more than once helped clear the packs in the back lines. Kyall McClean (3rd best) worked hard all day in the back line with Jake Schleter (5th) pushing the ball forward. Tim Sullivan (4th) con nued to lead by example presen ng himself at every opportunity in the forward line which led to a 6-goal haul. Luke Richards rounds out the list at 6th best and showed great courage in contes ng the hard ball whether up front or in the back line. The half me break had us s ll ahead by a narrow margin and the game in anybody's hands. To our credit, our aim was good, and we gave the third term a 7-goal boost. We s ll need to work on our finish as it was only the inaccurate kicking of the K'doo boys that kept the game in our favor. Leading goal kicker was Tim Sullivan 6, Chris an Howle 3, Ned Wilke 2, and one apiece for Luke Richards, Colby Munro, Will Macdonald, Ma Stark and debut player Casey Wilson. A big thank you to Senior Colts Kai Gilmore, Casey Wilson and Lachlan Ray who stepped up and welcome to the club Je A ard and Nathan Bell. We look forward to seeing a lot a great footy from all of you. It was a great way to start the year, but we all know there is s ll a lot of footy le to play. So, train hard to play hard! Go Demons!
B Grade: Port MacDonnell 6.3 lost to Kalangadoo 9.12. Welcome back! Like a virgin bride's wedding night the an cipa on of the new season here in the “Family League” was nigh unbearable and the “Family” came out in droves to celebrate. The weather was kind (cool and cloudy), the playing surface in good condi on despite the wildlife issues and hardly any rain, the canteen was fully loaded and the viewing area ramped and ready. Except for wishing there was a paper budget at the gate… who could want for a be er invita on to the Bay! The day began like most footy Saturdays… phone calls to all and sundry who would be willing to pull on the boots and more senior colt fill ins than you can poke a s ck at. Ben McGregor (The FOTB) has put up his hand to coach in this “shotgun” affair, but due to work commitments had to leave the boys in the capable hands of his fellow club stalwarts Ben “Willow” Wilson and Kyall “Vicar' McClean. Good thing the wedding march is a slow step as the boys were a li le le behind in the first two quarters. By half me the Kdoo boys had lined up 7 big ones to our single and like a missing groom at a buck's night, the lads struggled to find a clear lead up forward and cohesive play in the opening stages of the game. (Could that be a lack of training??.....hmmm sound familiar!) Best man in the whole affair, Aaron “Too Tall” Harding found his rhythm, not only taking on majority of the ruck work but also kicking 3 goals. Blair Cu ng managed 2 goals of his own and Kur s Lasle pocketed a handy single to complete our 6 goal turn around in the last half Baz O'Dine joined the wedding party as 2nd groomsman and with a cool head kept the flanks and midfield running forward. Tom Sullivan stood in line as 3rd with Koby Stratman as 4th, as they worked their way around the back lines and taller “page boy” Je Lewis impressed with his game style earning 5th spot in the list. On that note a big thank you to the other “altar boys” Paddy Robinson, Kur s Lasle and Aidan Telford for helping fill the groom’s side of the church. We may have been le standing at the altar this me boys but if we get out on the track or the gym we might just be able to catch the bouquet next week here at home against Nangwarry
