ROBE ROOSTERS
Senior Colts: Almost to the halfway mark of the season and we travelled to Sleepy Hollow to take on the undefeated Mt Burr. With a couple of late outs due to injury we started great with some early pressure and awesome ball movement to be only a goal down at the first break. The second quarter we s ll showed signs of how we have improved as the season has progressed to be only 5 goals off the pace. The second half saw us start to struggle but only due to our lack of manpower and the fact we lost our focus, but to the boys credit they s ll managed to fight the game out to the end. The pleasing thing to watch was how we are star ng to implement what we are working on at training and all these young men should be as I am very proud of the way they are going. Best for the day went to Myles as he moved into the midfield, Seb, Archie, Flynn for his best game for the year, Ryle Sotho and the insen ves to Archie for running all day and John for another great game in defence. Leroy
Reserves: Well another great weekend for playing footy, hopefully we get some wet weather football soon (careful what we wish for). The Robe Ressies put on another big show with everyone performing well and doing the jobs they are asked to do. A bit like the boys a few hours later at the Rooster Ball. We welcomed back Lacey H and Tye P to the side and didn't Tye cover a bit of ground. Big bad
Connor Stokie is star ng to find his feet kicking 6, 10 goalkickers which shows the great teamwork the boys are playing with. Tom Miller con nues his great season, Bram Whi lesea had his best game of the year, Bailey Walker back from A grade pushed for a recall. Oli Hagge and Flynn Peel ran all day and set up play further up the ground. A really big challenge this week with the undefeated Eagles visi ng the seaside. The game should be a cracker Come on down for some great country footy. Go Roosters.
A Grade: Another solid away win by the Roosters on Saturday in idyllic condi ons down at Mt Burr. We have certainly improved from our slow starts over the last few games, and Saturday was no excep on. Smithy had a real day out, kicking 4 in the first and ending the day with 10. Our midfield was in control all day, with Henry Lawrie, Ben Dinning and George Du on all standing out in a dominant games from all three. Our back six stood firm, with Jack Sneath being the standout, crea ng opportuni es upfield with his great decision making and ball skills. Tom Wok was excellent again, with his young partner in crime Seb Moore contribu ng in his limited minutes when on field. Cracking game coming up this weekend against the Eagles at home. Go Roosters!
HATHERLEIGH EAGLES
football club notes seniors
A Grade: First quarter was heated with both teams coming out strong being 2 undefeated teams. Mount Burr had the pressure on us early kicking 4 goals to our 1 in the first. Second quarter from us was a lot be er with more pressure, skill and quick ball movement resul ng in us having a 6 point lead at half me. Second half the boys hit the ground running moving the ball effortlessly into our forward line giving us plenty of scoring opportuni es. This lead to us kicking the next 15 goals straight for the game. A 103 point win over the Burr was a huge win for us and reflected how much work the boys are pu ng in together as a team. Some of our best were Will Chay, Brad Mitchell and Jack Gray down back. Overall huge team effort by the boys with all players stepping up and playing their roles.
B Grade: Firstly I'd just like to thank all of our sponsors, with out you we wouldn't have the great facili es to play our great sport at, thanks once again. Sponsors day is always a game you want to play in, big crowd and always a great game. We knew Mt Burr were going to come out with plenty of pressure they always do. We came out firing and playing some great team first football. Kicking 6-1 to zip in the first, we went away from our structures and started playing individual football and it showed on the scoreboard, frustra ng day from a coaches point of view kicking 12-20, but we will take the 4 points knowing our be er football is to come. Josh Wight BOG again. James Gilbo keeps his hot form in the midfield. Jimmy Telford had a great game also using his toughness to win mul ple contest. Jack Marino kept his good touch across half back and big Sid Reeves had a good game in the ruck. Few things to dy up on before we come up against Robe who are flying along at the moment.
Senior Colts: Came up against a quality side in Mt Burr on yet another great day for footy. The
boys started well again kicking 3 in the first, the second quarter Mt Burr kicked 5 goals to our one and had a good lead going into the second half. Addressed the boys and I'm really proud how they didn't drop their heads like previous weeks and came out and had a ripping second half and only losing by 2 goals in the end. Against a top of the table team it was a great effort and fight all day. Best players were, first best the Denton's Sportspower award went to Riley Haines. 2nd best the Stumpy award went to Cooper Walters. Third best the Gino's Pizza award went to Isaac Chambers kicking 3 goals. 4th best the Ladies Commi ee award went to Aus n Ne le. 5th best Pete Walter's award went to Hudson Nowak. Going into a well deserved bye, then into another good side in Robe.
Junior Colts: More good condi ons greeted Mt Burr to Hatherleigh on Saturday. Mt Burr were very undermanned and so well done to the Hatherleigh boys that played for them to make a game of it and keep it a reasonable contest. Well done to the Mt Burr kids who kept trying and fought the game out well. Billy Bowering was best on ground a er giving his team mates a touch up for a half while in Burr colours and then con nuing his effort in the second half. Paddy Fitzgerald was really good early at centre half back, where he got in good posi ons to provide run and drive from the back line. Reef Chambers provided plenty of drive out of the midfield and then did the same in Burr colours, where he also hit the scoreboard. Henry Bowering and Will Dower were their consistent selves, provide plenty of run and possession. Special men ons for improvements went to James Ma hews, Balin Thomas, Harris McGrath and Alex Sutherland. The boys will look forward to Buddy Night at training when they get to train with the seniors before the bye.

football club notes
Sunny skies last week as we took on some experienced Kalangadoo teams. Write ups and awards as follows.
Under 11: The Under 11’s and Auskickers were excited to play football a er a week off. It was a well organised morning with both the Auskick and Under 11’s playing at the same me. Thank you to both umpires for bringing all kids into the play so they all got a touch of the ball, which helps in the development of the kids. Awards - Intersport: Cooper Jenkin, Presidents Award: Ryder Telford, Coaches Award: Rooster Aikenhead, Club Award: Harry Nicholas, Brant Family: Bill Ellis, Donut King: Coby Brant, Donut King: Kingsley Morgan, Donut King: Finn Weaver, Donut King: Cade Sandercock.
Junior Colts: It was a tough game against Kalangadoo with them having 2 or 3 bigger players who were hard to match up with. There were some good signs though with our onballers working well to get their share of clearances and making Kalangadoo work hard to get free. It was great to see us con nually move the ball from opposi on points out of our backline and up to the wing rather than the ball ge ng stuck deep in defence. This was a focus of training over the past few weeks so it good to see it put into prac ce. Awards went to Zavier Hunt (Lucas Family), Jimmy Whi y (Spot on Fishing), Hunter Bingham (Aussie Disposals), Angus Maidment (Janeaway Plumbing), Koby Galloway (Lucas Family) and Bella Huynh (Paradise Pizzas).
Senior Colts: Game forfeited.
B Grade: Another great experience for our young fellas playing against some fantas c
footballers. We con nue to improve in some areas and are learning to play the way we need to. With so many young men in the side, our focus is not the scoreboard but our a tude and workrate. We definitely need to stop kicking the ball to the opposi on so regularly. Kalangadoo had a couple of young guys as well and it was great to watch them go about it. Awards went to Samuel Ruwoldt, Toby McKinnon, Michael Waters, Paul Buntsma, Brodie VonStanke Dowie and Sandy Cameron were all great contributors. Thank you to award sponsors Commercial Hotel, Collins Court Butchers, Pick Avenue Deli and the club.
A Grade: It wasn’t a bad start to the game, the boys pressed up well and held Kalangadoo accountable. The second quarter we let it slip a bit, and Kalangadoo got a run on. A er losing 2 players to an injured groin and a concussion in Corben and Will Vickery, the chips were stacked against us but to the boys credit played a decent 3 quarters. We ran out of legs in the last as Kalangadoo played well and ran hard as they do. Looking forward to taking on Nangwarry this weekend at home. Awards went to Ethan Norman (Collins Court Butcher), Cam Sandercock (Commerical Hotel), Charlie Schultz (Commerical Hotel), Tom Hunter (Club Award), Ryan Vickery (K&S) & Tyrone Rayner (Pick Ave Deli).
A massive thank you to all that organised and a ended our mock wedding. A special thank you to The Commercial Hotel for having us, it certainly was a night to remember
See you next week as we host Nangwarry.
NANGWARRY SAINTS
Vale - Dylan PodobnikRound 7 for #7 and Pods sure was with us everywhere last Saturday
The way everyone has pulled together to be able to show up last Saturday and play, coach, volunteer and support has been nothing short of astounding for a club to be able to do. The word resilience is thrown around, but Nangwarry encapsulates the true meaning of the word. 7 days in football sure has been a lot, weeks like this show the true fibre of individuals and groups and everyone has gathered around, supported and stood tall. Thank you to everyone from near and far who showed up to support us and had us in their thoughts on which was a very tough day in honour of Pods, your support will not be forgo en –
Celeste RaymondThis week's sponsor shout out is the Spud Train and Limestone Coast Care.
We welcome new sponsor Limestone Coast Care in 2024, they are a locally owned Disability Support Company, and they provide high quality support for people with disabili es.
Once a month we are lucky to have the Spud Train head to Nangwarry on a training night to make dinner easier. Isn't it awesome when a sponsor goes that li le extra mile to help out a club and it is amazing to see the support that not only the football/netball community give back but the whole town.
Under 11: Frosty start to the morning but Nangwarry was bathed in sunshine and the young saints were eager to have a run. Their determina on to win the contest and apply pressure to the ball never lets them down.
Junior Colts: Really happy with our efforts Saturday. We came and played a good 4 quarter effort and really played to our strengths all game. Our forwards worked well together crea ng space and opportunity to score with each inside 50 and made for some wellearned team goals. Our mids toiled all day pushing back to help our defence and then running hard in a ack to set up our forwards. Lastly
our defenders were great all day to some really good intercept marking in the first half got us off to a good start and plenty of run from our half-backs was great to watch.
Senior Colts: A really solid all round performance from the team produced a hard fought 6 point win against a very good Glencoe team. A er controlling most of the first half we were outplayed at the start of the third quarter resul ng in 4 quick goals to Glencoe and from then on it was a ba le. A ght and tense last quarter with limited scoring opportuni es saw the game come down to the wire with Archer Virtanen snapping a crucial late goal. A top performance considering some of our injured players had to play out of posi on. Some outstanding efforts from Alex Lynch with a defensive assignment and Benne Moy thru the middle.
B Grade: Couldn't be more proud of the boys for wan ng to play with everything that's gone on last week. Glencoe are a good team and they showed that so well done to them, our lads were up against it from the first bounce but they had a crack and that's all I can ask.
A Grade: Congratula ons to Glencoe on retaining the Phil Muhovics Cup in honour of club legend in a playing and coaching capacity and all round great guy Phil. It was very touching to see Butch, Fritz and Dennis together presen ng the cup. Goal kickers for the day were Andy Hyland 2, Joel Virtanen 1, George McWaters 1 and a big congratula ons to Elwood Geary who kicked a goal in his first senior game for the Nangwarry Football Club. Difficult me to make your debut mate but well done, your performance was outstanding. Best players were Josh Weedon, George McWaters, Lennox Lewis, Isaac Raymond, Jake Mckeon and Brodie Arundell. In fact all 21 players that found the strength to put on the boots and compete in a physical contest is an excep onal effort and we are proud of you all. This week we travel to take on Kongorong and with a good week on the track we are very much looking forward to the contest.

On behalf of the Glencoe football & netball club we would like to extend our deepest condolences to all family and friends of Dylan. As a club it was an honour to be able to support & join the Nangwarry family in a day of remembrance for a valued player & member of their ghtknit community. It's mes like these that our small communi es really step up and band together to show their real strength, resilience & bonds. The support they displayed for each other was inspiring and something the Nangwarry community should be very proud of
Thank you to the Barn Steak House for a lovely Rump and Red night, an evening enjoyed by all.

junior colts
Congratula ons to Tory who played his 150th A grade game, a real compe tor who s ll knows how to bang home a goal or three. Well, played.
Under 11: Con nuing to improve every week, these young colts are making great progress thanks to Bo, Dion and the two Brodies.
Junior Colts: An cipated to be a close contest, Nangwarry jumped ahead early with some fast movement leaving our defenders for dust. Hamish was bus ng himself, working very hard trying to li his team. During the second term the team followed with a real li with a nice spread of goal kickers. Nangwarry got the jump on us in the second half and run away winners in what was a high scoring game of junior colts football. Best was captain Hamish who is pu ng together a stellar season, next were Sam M, Harrison X who has found some form and young Hunter C and Max E earning themselves praise.
Senior Colts: A great close contest by two teams with
talent. The first quarter went goal for goal before Nangwarry kicked out in front during the second. Working harder than us, Will made some posi onal changes and got a spark through the midfield in the third. Kicking ourselves out of the game proved costly in the fourth. Best was Lachy B, Max W, Tyrone S, Tighe H, Hamish G and Les Jagger
Reserves: The Ressies had the return of cult hero Harry 'Crazy Eyes' Comley and Jake Blackwell in for their first games for the year. Harry set the tone in the first quarter kicking a no-looker from the boundary and finished the day with three goals and fourth best. Blacky kicked four himself. The Ressies are currently si ng in the top four with Pie very pleased to finally have some depth and the ability to select a side with emergencies. Sorry Jezz. Best for the day was Darcy W, Trent H, Josh A, Harry C, James K and Jake B.
Seniors: Not only did we have the Muhovics Cup to play for but also to redeem ourselves for last week's performance. The first quarter was tense with us having a number of chances but not making the most of owning the ball. During the second term we con nued to hit the scoreboard. We picked up the pace in the third term and Connor F found himself in the forward 50 boo ng a career high four goals. We ran the game out well and look forward to moving onto Port Mac this week before the June long weekend. Brodie G was awarded the Muhovics Medal and Dylan accepted the Muhovics Cup, he was also awarded the Road Safety Medal and best player, second best was Will M down back, Isaac M hit his straps, Nick Herring and goal sneak Conor F and young colt Kallan Price showing the Seniors how to lay a tackle.
PORT MACDONNELL DEMONS
A Grade: Port MacDonnell 19.25 def Tantanoola 10.5. We welcomed the sunshine, the '64 A grade and '73 & '74 B grade premiership past players, and the Tant Tigers to the Bay and the hope of a much be er brand of footy than what was played against Robe. The opening term had both teams in touch with only an 8 point lead the difference. Finding our stride in the 2nd quarter, and a couple of minor changes to the lineup, allowed us to put on an eight goal haul but we could have been more accurate considering the play in our forward lines. Third quarter had us with a comfortable eight goal lead but again accuracy in front of goals cost us a bigger margin by the end of the game. BOG Ned Wilke proved just how handy he can be through the midfield and pockets while Chris an Howle placed 2nd with his efforts in the forward lines presen ng at every opportunity and ne ng a handy bag of goals in the process. Colby Munro and Je A ard at 3rd and 4th respec vely, gave us plenty of push across our CHB and CHF line. Will Macdonald rucked well all day and comes in at 5th best stabilising our centre square while Snr Colt Harry Carroll gave us a glimpse of the exci ng talent to come and rounds out the BP list at 6th. Once again Chris an Howle ne ed another 6 goals while Colby Munro bagged 5 with Ned Wilke and Ma Stark slo ng 2 each. Harry Carroll had a goal debut alongside Je A ard, Alex Ridding and Kyle McClean with one apiece. We are nearly halfway through our 2024 season and it’s me to look forward and decide where we want to finish on the ladder. Every game is important, so train hard to play hard. Go Demons!
B Grade: Port MacDonnell 8.11 def Tantanoola 6.4. With the sun shining (another beau ful day in
the Bay!) we go from zero to hero in the space of a week! Who would have thought that having 15 (Yes... 15!) out to train would have made a difference… go figure! A er the Robe magical mystery tour which made everything disappear like a rabbit in a magician’s mirror box… the players, the score, even the budget notes... the “Circus” came to town and presented the home crowd with a be er show under the “big top”. The elephant in the room… you just need to turn up to prac ce (just sayin')
Ringmaster Ben McGregor actually had a team to choose from (not just names on a board, throwing knives at them to pick a side) and luckily got the right combina on of old and new heads. Jackson Pollard impressed with his gymnas c tumbling act which saw him tackle all and sundry who had the ball winning a BOG for the effort. Tom Sullivan (Lion) tamed the Tiger players he tagged throughout the game pu ng a lot of pace into the back and centre ring. Strong man extraordinaire Baz O'Dine did all the heavy li ing across the back line and threw his weight forward to great effect while the “Ringling Bros” Bradley Neale, Alex Lamb and Isaac Na rass clowned their way around the opposi on, barreling forward at every opportunity. Curtain calls and encores (goals) go to Ben Newton with 3, Jackson Pollard 2 and Adam Richards, Blair Cu ng and Aidan Telford with 1 each. Welcome back to Ben, Tyrese Newton, Nathan Tilley and Fraser Lynch and a big well done to Isaac Smith who is improving every week with every challenge he is given. Thanks also to Koby Stratman (Snr Colt) for helping fill the side. Well it’s Glencoe next… let's see if we can pull a rabbit out of a hat and make it a back to back win! Now that would be something I'd pay money to see! Go Demons!

Junior Colts: Last week we travelled to Port Mac, on the ropes early with a few lads out we knew it would be a tough slug but apart from a slow star ng first quarter we kept figh ng and figh ng and even out scored them it the last, very proud of our young group.
Senior Colts: On another ripper of a day for footy we were up against a strong Bay ou it. With 6 out of the team due to illness and travel we were always going to be up against it. Thanks to the Bay lads for lending us some players to make a contest. We tried our best all game which is all we can ask for. Best were Boat, Longy, Braydn, Jackson, Cur s and Fouldsy. Keep working hard on the track and improving our skills.
Reserves: Last week at Port Mac in the B grade it was pleasing to see the lads play the style of football we have been working on. We were without a few key players but s ll managed to play winning most of the day. It was our third quarter where we were one short due to a yellow card that cost us. In the end we went down by 3 goals. The boys ba led hard and I was very impressed with Shaun Robinson’s game he was our first best, then Liam Ousey, Ma Nelson, Minky and Bommer also were our best contributors. Goal kickers were spread between Minky, Kieron Rigs and Ryan Long all with 2 goals each.
A Grade: Last week we went to Port Mac in very warm condi ons. We started slow le ng them kick the first couple but got on top kicking 3 straight to be back in the game. We kept taking the game on moving the ball with confidence into half me. We had an excellent 3rd quarter where our posi ve ball movement got on top for a while we just couldn't quick finish it off. We ba led all day unfortunately not quite good enough but a bad run of injuries has given plenty of guys opportunity if they want it. Keep cracking in boys and keep enjoying being around our mates as you never know when it could be your last. Best players Troy Ha , Brydon Klingberg, Jack Dawe, Alec Roberts and Darcy Pink. On behalf of the senior players at Tantanoola we are sending love to the Nangwarry players, coaches and loved ones #7.

Junior Colts: What a great game. Lots of back and forth to go with heaps of contested footy. Our boys got off to a flyer and kicked the first goals of the game. However Robe came storming back and won it. Hunter was everywhere in the forward line snagging a goal and pressuring the opposi on all around the ground. Reed dominated in the ruck again and kicked a great goal. George and Sonny were silky smooth in the back line and got some key possessions. Special thanks to the Hatherleigh boys who came across and helped us field a side.
Senior Colts: Robe came out firing on all cylinders against our senior colts who took a li le while to se le into their game with a 5 point lead at quarter me. From the second quarter onwards the boys remained focussed to overpower the Roosters to run out comfortable winners in a tough match. Credit for playing good football for the day
B Grade: A er a tough week against Hatherleigh last game, things didn’t get any easier playing Robe at home. From start to finished we were dominated by a team that were well drilled and very professional. To my boys credit we didn’t give up at any stage but we had trouble winning the ball and crea ng any opportuni es forward of centre. Congratula ons to Tommy Hales on game number 100. Best players were Luke Allen, Je Bowering, DJ, Ben & George. It was DJ’s last game for the club and we wish him and his family all the best for the future. You will be missed!
A Grade: Well, what another disappoin ng Saturday at the footy for us as a senior group. Coming up against another one of the premier sides of the league for the second week in a row was set to be a really good challenge for us and one we were looking forward to. Unfortunately, we could not find the consistency in our game again and against good sides you get found out. Playing our way for short periods of me doesn’t hold up and something we need to do and find a way to do consistently. Shout out to Josh Wallis and Jack Muhovics who ba led super hard for us all day over four quarters. Hopefully, we can put together a more consistent performance today

NETball club notes
A Grade: Mt Burr 44 def by Robe 54. It was a close game against Mt Burr, with both teams showing intensity from the first whistle. Robe's composure and pa ence ensured we chipped away at the scoreboard bringing us to a small lead heading into half me. Emillie Gould (coaches award – The Eighth Le er) & Kim Aus n applied great pressure in the goal circle for Mt Burrs shooters, causing errors that were capitalised on by the very accurate shooters Demi Carter (Calcu a – Robe Beauty/Naracoorte Sportspower) & Sarah Laurie. Robe’s fitness & team dynamic showed in the last quarter, finishing with a 10 goal lead. Each A grade player should be very proud of their game, it was extremely rewarding as a coach.
A Reserve: Mt Burr 55 def Robe 42. It was a nail biter against Mt Burr, the A Reserves chasing a small lead for most of the game. The defenders worked hard with Hannah, Annabel and Camille applying pressure around the circle, ge ng some cri cal turnovers. Our a acking line had intensity, we couldn't quite capitalise off our centre passes. Although we went down in the end, the girls kept posi ve and held momentum for the game. Well done to Skimmer (Calcu a – Loaves & Fishes) and Hannah (coaches award – The Eighth Le er) for best players. We look forward to a future re match against the Burr
B Grade: Mt Burr 29 def by Robe 37. Awards: Loaves & Fishes/The Eighth Le er. A really posi ve game from Robe from the outset. They set the tone early by applying defensive pressure across the court and then conver ng their turnovers which had them in front from the outset. The goalers, Sienna and Emma, had to work hard all day against much taller opposi on, shoo ng brilliantly under pressure. Phoebe, Tamara and Kate con nually applied pressure to all passes and got their hands to plenty, crea ng many turnovers for Robe. Georgie and Sophie proved to be a great defensive combina on with strong rebounding and intercepts all day. Coaches award to Phoebe (Loaves & Fishes) for her outstanding effort at WD. Calcu a went to Georgie (The Eighth Le er) whose game was mature beyond her years and for her countless intercepts and touches throughout the game. Just a fabulous win for our tea! Thanks for Mahalia for si ng our bench.
B Reserve: Mt Burr 30 def by Robe 51. At the beginning of the game I asked the girls to really dig deep, to remain composed and to play our game. Defence played with intensity ge ng a few clean intercepts which definitely helped see us finish the first quarter 5 up. This put the fire in everyone's belly Game play was smooth, the mid court worked extremely well together and Jess and Livvy in the goal circle worked relessly all game. Calcu a went to Jess (Loaves & Fishes) who had to work so hard against her defender but s ll got the job done. Coaches went to Annabelle (The Eighth Le er) who played a great 4 quarters in WD with many intercepts and for really watching her footwork.
17 & Under: Mt Burr 53 def Robe 27. The U17s knew that Mount Burr was going to be a tough and fast team and unfortunately we were unable to match them for four quarters. Some really great passages of play throughout the game, with us even winning a quarter, however we just couldn't hold it for the en re match. Olivia and Lexi worked hard all day in defence, with Lexi taking best player (Steve's Place). Emily worked the mid court well and presented op ons down the court. Kiana received coaches award (Salubrious Hour) for her accurate shoo ng and consistent efforts all game! Plenty of posi ves to take away from the game and the girls will be back firing this week!
15 & Under: Mt Burr 41 def by Robe 27. Although the first quarter always seems to be a slow start the girls came out knowing they could get another win on the board. Finishing the first quarter ed we all had to dig deep. We worked on defensive pressure the en re way down the court which proved to work for the girls as we managed to get many turnovers. This gave the girls the confidence they needed. Millie and Milla working well together, Milla earning herself coaches award (Salubrious Hour). Mid court Kaitley, Lilly, Tess and Makenzie pu ng on the pressure all the way down the court, Kaitley running strong all 4 quarters helped her earn best player (Steve's Place) for the day. Lindsey, Leni and Holly put pressure on in defence consistently meaning we were able to get lots of turnovers. Awesome effort girls.
13 & Under: Mt Burr 34 def Robe 16. Unfortunately we didn’t come away a win, but the girls kept their heads up and fought hard. Our first half was outstanding but once the girls got a bit red the Burr girls were just too good. Saskia worked hard in defence taking home the best player award (Robe Seafood & Takeaway). Kirby’s determina on and hard work through the mid court was perfect and she got my coaches award (Salubrious Hour). Well done girls.
Junior 1: This was a tough game for the girls, a bit smaller in stature doesn't help, but they s ll put in 100%. We are working well at ge ng in front and decision making when passing is ge ng much be er. We just need to learn to be stronger at the ball, having strong hands - making sure we catch the ball and pull it in. A couple out last week so a big thanks to Jess for si ng bench. Incen ve went to Mali (Robe Netball Club) for her persistent effort and going for loose balls.
Junior 2: Another tough game for the girls. Last week in training with Jane Gould, the girls focused on changing direc on and leading toward the ball. It was great to see everyone working hard to do this during the game. Our girls defended really well; Tilly, Tilda, Jess and Charlo e. Be y, Halle and Paisley worked the ball well down the court in a ack. Mia was a surprise li le pocket rocket in GK during the last quarter! Incen ve went to Halle (Robe Netball Club), who led well and took on advice all during game! Well done girls.
NETball club notes hatherleigh
Junior 2: A tough game against some tall opposi on. Your balance and footwork gets be er each week. Ge ng a quick 3 feet and hands high over the ball was also much improved. We need to keep working on pushing the pass to the space and making sure we dodge to lose our players in a ack. It was great to see lots of girls looking down the court and using shoulder passes. Awards: Sportspower - Lacey Kovacs, Beggs, Bean & Bar - Indi Haines, HLCHadlie Green
Junior 1: The girls came up against a very tall, skilled Mount Burr team and the netball quality on both sides was a delight to watch. The Burr made our a ack work hard with our best op on was to come forward and not pass behind. The girls drive, determina on and want for the ball lead to great passages of play. The defenders worked hard to get hands to balls and were backed by a team effort of chasing up every loose ball. The goalies used their pa ence to try and find the best delivery op on. Poppy BoweringSportspower, Violet Fitzgerald - Ladies Commi ee, Kate Uo la - Beggs, Bean and Bar.
13 & Under: Hatherleigh defeated Mt Burr 53-40. Lots of great passages of play again girls. Well done! Livvi and Hazel combined well and con nued to dig in to their toolbox to give different op ons for Arabella and Alirah feeding in. Both girls shoo ng with accuracy and following their shots. Arabella increased her confidence throughout the game and gave lots of strong drives on to the circle. Alirah ran hard all game and con nually and strongly switch between her defence and a ack. Chloe played a solid game in WD causing many turnovers and stopping her player being an op on. Paige and Kaia combined well in the defensive circle with great eyes for the ball working relessly the whole game. Tilly came and helped out for a quarter giving our hard working defence a half a quarter rest and provided fresh legs for transferring the ball down the court with great precision. So impressed with each and every one of you girls showing your want for the ball, for the win and your respect for each other. You should all be so proud of yourselves I know I certainly am. Livvi Faulkner - Java, Kaia GreenHatherleigh Ladies Commi ee.
15 & Under: Hatherleigh defeated Mt Burr 60-38. The game was very ght from the start, scores staying goal for goal for most of the first half. Our pressure down the court was good and our passing was direct and controlled. Girls adjusted quickly to the changes made throughout the game, and it was pleasing to see them step up their intensity and work ethic in order to start pushing out a strong lead into the third quarter. Court-play really began to gel, as we worked the triangles and fed with confidence and pa ence into the goalies. In the last quarter we really took control of the game, and our defensive contests and turnovers were impressive. A well-deserved win, showing what we are truly capable of when we put together four solid quarters of netball. Awards: Luca Hamilton - Corner Clip, Sienna Clark - Hatherleigh Ladies Commi ee.
17 & Under: Hatherleigh defeated Mt Burr 62-54. A much improved effort from all 9 girls. We started strong and held a 2 goal lead at quarter me, we lost our way a bit in the second and Mt Burr pounced on their opportuni es turning in a 7 goal turn around to lead by 5 at half me. Our second half was much be er in terms of consistency and we were able to regain the lead and pull away to win by 8. Niah played a ripper at GD and Chloe B and Kelli were quick and accurate in goals. It was good to see everyone play their part and adjust to posi onal changes. A good solid win, well done. Chloe Bellinger - Mitre 10, Kalli Ne le - Hatherleigh Ladies.
B Reserve: Hatherleigh defeated Mt Burr 49-32. Great team game, in the first half Amy and Nicole feed well into Melita and Grace with some great fast drives into the circle. Ella, Ellen and Maddie worked hard in defence with turnovers and ge ng their hands to many balls. Second half Keely came into centre and ran out the game with strong leads and passes Demi was leading well in WA. Fiona into defence with ge ng hands to a few. Just those few li le things we need to keep working on to improve our game each week. Best players: Melita - K&S fuel voucher, Ellen - sports and rec voucher. Thanks to Lori-Ann and Tarina for primary caring and mer. Thanks to Zoe for scoring.
B Grade: Hatherleigh defeated Mt Burr 5039. A fast flowing first quarter to start the game and one of our highest for the season with great accuracy from both Ellie and Liv Sarah and Georgia were ge ng plenty of intercepts in our defensive end and Kaz, Maddie and Ali provided great drive, vision and pa ence to protect the turnover and give our goalies more of the ball. The on court co-coach extraordinaire's voice could be heard as she directed her teams movement of the ball into the circle. Ellie ran hard and Liv held strongly and moved well to keep re-offering. It was fantas c to see the training drills we prac se coming to the fore in our a ack line, with Maddie and Ali posi oning well on the circle to keep working the ball around and in. It was great having Maddie back, and she played terrifically at WA! Ali played a pearler Running all day and ge ng numerous turnovers all over the court. At the start of the third Eliza came on at GS to replace Liv, Georgia went out to WA, replacing Maddie and Marnie took the court at GK. Georgia showed her versa lity once again as she easily adjusted from defence to a ack, whilst Eliza had her eye in earlyentertaining the supporters with her long bombs in. Marnie stood tall and consistently got the rebound, and Sarah con nued to cause havoc with perfect ming and great reach intercep ng the ball. A strong team effort with everyone stepping up, playing some of the best netball for the season. Thanks to Ellen si ng bench, Raels for scoring, Linda for ming and Nat and Di for Primary Carer and Team Manager. Olivia Sla ery - AMPOL Fuel, Ali McClennan - Hatherleigh Sport and Rec.
A Reserve: Hatherleigh defeated Mt Burr 52-32. Another warm one, but very proud of the girls, they had a great game all round. They were strong in a ack with fantas c drives and ming down the court. Rosie Ne le and Shayla Jones feeds into the circle was great to see. Abby Wight and Eliza moved well in the circle, opening up great opportuni es for a pass in. Millie, Maddie and Lucy did a great job defensively applying the pressure, making the a ack work hard. Great win girls! Thanks Meg and Ciarne for your help. Rosie Ne le - AMPOL Fuels, Shayla Jones - Sport and Rec.
A Grade: Hatherleigh defeated by Mt Burr 34-36. A physical game, forced us to make a few changes early in the game. Lars and Chels worked relessly in the circle causing countless turnovers. Niah stepped up and played a blinder in GK applying ght defensive pressure. Tegan, Erin & Rosie reoffered me and me again giving us plenty of op ons in the mid court. Demi and Kalli combined well in the circle, being pa ent and waited for the openings to come. However, the physicality had us slightly ra led; we need to remember to play our own game, con nue to be pa ent and keep possession. Thank you Immy and Rosie for slo ng in with ease. Erin Watson - Sport and Rec, Demi VanderhorstAMPOL Fuels, Niah Faulkner - Heaven on a Hanger.
NETball club notes
We would like to thank our game day sponsors for their support. Round 7 sponsors are The Springs Crea ve, Elite Supplements and McDonalds.
Junior 1: The girls played a very good game, everyone was very encouraging of each other and worked hard. Although most of the girls had played a game before ours and s ll put in 100%, bring on this weekend. Best players were awarded to Alara – Badenochs and Alyssa – club voucher.
Junior 2: Thank you to the girls who filled in. We appreciate you coming early and playing two games. The extra height through the court helped us to love the ball well. My li le girls did well to play in with them, ge ng intercepts and Maya shoo ng 3 goals. The strong passes did make it difficult some mes, but with experience and prac ce comes those stronger passes and being able to catch them. We need to work on our stepping and wan ng those loose balls. Happy birthday to Indi who stepped in for the last few minutes of the game. She took home the Fasta Pasta award. Evie for the Badenoch Deli award, Maya and Bailee have the club canteen voucher
13 & Under: Great effort team! Undermanned and undersized and you girls came out willing to give the game a crack and a ack the ball. We made silly mistakes ourselves but I was proud of our defensive pressure across the court and how we kept our chins up for the whole game. Best on went to Sophie (Fasta Pasta) for taking control of the game and running well, Zoe A (Club Voucher) for a fantas c game in GK and Claire for playing her game down either end of the court and backing her skills in all day. Well done girls, let's head out this week and train and play hard!
15 & Under: What an amazing game girls. From the moment we took the court you all dug in deep and gave 110%. Rahni and Addi worked so well in the circle ge ng the ball and ge ng those shots in. Mid court of Holly, Lily J, Lily F and Evie you girls chase all the loose balls and our re-offering was amazing. Evie and Abby your defensive pressure was next level. You had so many turnovers and rebounds. Lily T and Paige your presence was no ced on court and really helped us. To only be down by 3 at one point against a well put together team is a massive achievement. I'm so beyond proud of you all. Best players went to Lily Foster (Macca's), Evie Edwards (Fasta Pasta) and Lily Jacob ($5 donated by Janeway family). If we con nue to play how we did you
girls will be up there come finals. Go Hawks!

B Grade: Bad luck girls, again the score doesn't reflect how it actually feels on court. We honestly don't give up and ride it out ll the final whistle. Proud of the team pulling together to get a side on the court, and to Courtney for showing up and giving it her all, beyond proud to have you in our team, your commitment and determina on does not go unno ced and you should be so proud of yourself. Let's just keep pushing and giving it our all. Best players Maddie Bowd (Arena), Chloe Weaver (Mango’s).

Fa gue and lack of concentra on let the game slip away from us a bit more than we were hoping in the end but s ll super proud of everyone's efforts. The a ack end worked over me and took care of the ball and defence worked relessly making the opposi on work for their possession. Best on went to Evie (The Commercial Hotel) for keeping her head in a ack and running hard all day and Jas (Lima and Co) for a great pressure game and applying work at training into games. NETball club notes nangwarry
This week, Nangwarry Football Netball Club demonstrated that we aren't just a club - we are a community. We came together to remember one of our very own, Dylan Podobnik. Everyone who hit the field or the court last Saturday showed great strength and resilience, regardless of the score line. The Nangwarry Netball Club sends their love, strength, and endless support to Dylan's family a er this terrible loss. We stand united in our grief and our commitment to support each other through these difficult mes.
Junior 2: The weather was perfect last week! All the girls did a wonderful job playing in the warmth. 7 rounds in, and it is great to see that each week, they're all very excited to jump on the court and give it their best shot. We s ll need to work on making space on the court but the girls should be very proud of themselves.
13 & Under: Bit of a slow start in the first quarter saw us down by almost the same margin we lost by. We had so many really good passages of play just some li le errors that let us down. We must remember to talk to each other out there and help each other out. Be encouraging and posi ve we all are playing some good netball and we all make mistakes. Great job in a ack when we were pa ent and coming in front for the ball, straight at it always works. Just need to remember to wait ll our players make their lead before we pass the ball too quickly. Defence had to work hard, got lots of touches in first effort, we also though need to make the second effort and chase up. Overall great game in last 3 quarters, well done. Let's see you all get in 4 quarters this week. Penola Recycling award went to Lucy and Baker’s Delight to James.
15 & Under: Another beau ful day at home and a great start to the game. Glencoe came out strong with a fantas c 1st quarter. A be er 2nd quarter by the Nangwarry girls with defence working hard and ge ng some great intercepts and rebounds. Glencoe played an awesome strong game and came out on top.
17 & Under: Last week saw us take on Glencoe. Glencoe’s passes and precise shoo ng, secured the lead in the first quarter. However, we fought back fiercely in the second quarter, narrowing the score gap with the strong defence and intercep ons of sienna and Skye. The third quarter saw us both exchanging goals rapidly, but unfortunately costly errors from us saw Glencoe u lising our mistakes. Overall, it was an intense match filled with skilful plays and remarkable teamwork from us. Congratula ons to our best players Skye and Maddy on a great game.
B Reserve: What a game to watch, with some strong contests all over the court. Both teams worked hard across the board and there were some amazing plays by all.
Nangwarry girls it's been great to see so much improvement and so much support for each other. Congrats Glencoe on your win and we look forward to playing you next me.
B Grade: Extremely proud of everyone on last week's effort. We all had an emo onal week and tears before the game. However we bonded together and got through the game. Every player gave 100% effort and that's all we were aiming for. Carla had a great game in goals. Ebony ran well at centre again. Pines Hotel award went to Stevie for mo va ng and suppor ng her team mates. Loved your words and played a great game. Coffee award went to Amy for ge ng her all in defence. Well done all.
A Reserve: Some mes playing sport is not about winning, it is about coming together and being united with your “other” family. There was no place I would have rather been then with my netball family on Saturday. The strength you all showed, compassion and guts made me proud. Whilst the score did not reflect how I felt playing I am just happy that each week you girls listen to the advice that I, Chrystal and Michelle give and you get back on the court and try it. Every single one of you deserve to be in A Reserve, you all bring a certain skill that is required to make our team complete, so if you are doub ng this please stop because you are all amazing. We had a number of different moves on Saturday and our best players reflected these moves. Chrystal back in her starring role as GK showing her many talents and moves. Before going back to GS for stability and direc on. Simone a er a number of seasons away from Nangwarry no one would have guessed because it feels like you never le . Your pa ence and passing into the circle is phenomenal and then I asked you to swap out from WA to GD just a small change lol. However you took to the court and stole the show with your impressive determina on.
A Grade: Our game may have been a loss, but the strength you all showed is more than a win. Every one of you demonstrated incredible resilience and teamwork. I'm sure there were mes when you wanted to give up, but you didn't, you pulled each other through, and that spirit is what truly ma ers. We are almost halfway through the netball season. Now is the me to make sure we implement everything we've been prac cing. When we face the other teams again, we want them to see just how much we've all improved. Your dedica on and perseverance will pay off, and the progress we've made will shine through. Keep pushing, keep believing, and let's make the second half of this season stronger than ever. Best players Kayla Gray, Taysha Marshall.

Encouragement award - Maddie and Sienna who ran hard all game and listened to everything I men oned at the breaks.

B Grade: Glencoe 65 defeated Nangwarry 25. A great win girls! We started off slow in the first few minutes but quickly found our feet and se led into the game. Our shooters were on fire with Bel only missing one goal for the en re game. Bri moved well and created space in the circle to earn herself first best. Second best went to Emma for her feeding into the circle and second efforts all day. Our mid court moved with ease and provided excellent drive down the court. Our defenders worked hard, intercep ng plenty of passes and ge ng even more touches. It's great to see everything we have been working on at training being put into prac ce and our hard work star ng to pay off. Let's keep training hard each week and work on coming out strong from the start.
A Reserve: Glencoe 59 defeated Nangwarry 19. A great game with only 5 of the team playing. We took a li le me to adjust to the new players on court, causing some errors but in the second we found our groove. Huge thanks to Gemma and Giaan for filling in, you both had a big impact on the game. Zoe had an absolute stellar game in GA, working in with Alannah like they have always played together. It was great for us to try out some different combos and a good confidence boost!
A Grade: Glencoe 75 defeated Nangwarry 11. A bit of a shake up with new players and different combina ons all over the court. Great to see everyone being adaptable and stepping up to make sure we fielded a good side. We were composed with the ball to start the game and worked it pa ently around the circle to allow our goalie combina on to se le in. We pressured the ball all the way down the court and set up heaps of intercepts for everyone through the middle. Max and Jenna did a great job a er only one training together and had some great passages to open up the space for one another. Ashlea and Alice worked hard in the middle and provided lots of opportuni es for short and long drives and were pa ent to feed the ball in. Donna did a great job in the defensive circle and despite giving away a fair bit of height created heaps of turnovers and got lots of intercepts. A big congratula ons to Mckayla for hi ng the court for her A Grade debut! First best went to Max (O'Brien Electrical) for pulling in lots of contested passes and rebounding fantas cally – thank you for stepping up and playing a great game. Second best went to Mckayla for having a crack all game, ge ng a few awesome intercepts, chasing up loose balls and always being an op on down the court. You should be very proud of your first game! Thanks to Chloe and Zoe for si ng bench. Congrats to Alice for playing her 50th club game. Let's keep this form rolling into this weeks game.

Junior 2: In a challenging match against Tantanoola, our girls were faced with a tough challenge, struggling to find their rhythm for the first half of the game. The third quarter saw our girls focusing on ghtening their defence, working relessly to block Tant's shooters and disrupt their offensive flow. Allowing our goalies to move around the ring and score our goals. The girls con nued to give their all, with each player making some impressive plays and showing great resilience. With a few things to work on for the coming weeks, it allowed our girls to show great sportsmanship, shake off any mistakes and s ll walk away with their heads held high, which was a big highlight for us as coaches. Our encouragement awards were donated by Fasta Pasta & Arena and were awarded to Ellie Day & Pippa Lewis.
Junior 1: Girls, I told you on Saturday but I'll say it again… that was the best game I have seen you all play. You are working as a team and your skills improve every week. Ana (Donut King), your driving down the court and cu ng in front of your player was impressive. Skyla (McDonalds) does not stop running all game making an impact with countless intercep ons and turnovers. Special men on to Brianna who shot her first goal for the year. Let's keep the momentum going.
13 & Under: Port MacDonnell 29 defeated Tantanoola 27. We can really see the girls coming together, every single one of them are improving more and more each week. The team is showing tremendous growth. Our goalies are slowly but surely ge ng more confident in the ring, whilst our midcourt are delivering many amazing passes into our goalies, whilst the defending side we are s ll working on and what works best for them. Excited to see the rest of the season! Awards: Peyton Bowd (Arena), Evie Jones (Subway).
15 & Under: Port MacDonnell 53 defeated Tantanoola 45. Another great game by all, one of our closer games for the season. Our defensive pressure all over the court was great. Our drives in a ack were great. Special men on to Lilli who listened to everything we asked for and did it, cu ng in front and being behind the goalie on the circle. Awards went to Bailee for great drives in the a ack, great defence pressure and not missing many goals for the game (The Bay Pizzaria). And to Mia Spehr for pu ng in 100%, doing what we asked of her and for her good second efforts (Fasta Pasta). Good luck this weekend. Go Bay!
17 & Under: Port MacDonnell 71 defeated Tantanoola 35. Round 7 was another fantas c display of netball from the Port MacDonnell 17U girls, facing off against 2023 grand finalist team, Tantanoola. Our girls were strong to start, Alicetyn Stanley's intensity and determina on in defence a sight to be seen. Bree Ridding's sheer speed and game intelligence saw her also come up with many intercepts for her team. Lilly Day was able to convert on any ball sent her way, strong leads out of the circle from GS crea ng the space we needed to move the ball in and score. Bella McLean and Chloe Day both provided excellent drive in our a ack line, feeding our goalies brilliantly. Winning every quarter of the game, our girls worked over me to con nue to create for each other and push ahead. Sophie Lewis once again had a great game through the centre, a calm leader on the court in transi on. Combining well with any combina on, Lillie Lamb had a stellar game, holding strong in front of her opponent with a deadly base line drive that would baffle the best of defenders. It was Jasmine Morgan who walked away
with the BOG, her netball intellect and ability to read the play, second to none. She was able to not only create numerous stops in defence but was always an op on in transi on, using her preliminary moves to get open down the court me a er me. Congratula ons to our girls on another fantas c win, we hope to con nue this this week against what is sure to be a tough game in Glencoe. Best players: Jasmine Morgan (Arena Surf and Sports Store), Lillie Lamb (Birdie Blue). B Reserve: Port MacDonnell 64 defeated Tantanoola 28. In a gripping match against Tant, with high intensity and strategic play, the girls managed to hold a considerable lead throughout the game, coming away with a 36-goal win. With fantas c efforts from our defensive trio, Fiona, Jenni & Bridie, intercep ng passes and applying pressure to Tant's a ackers, we managed to turn around many centre passes and score the goal. Making use of the tac cal changes, we threw our under 17 young guns, Lilly, Chloe & Jasmine into the mix, allowing us to strengthen the midcourt play. With our goalies Amber & Ainsley u lising Deanne on the ring and showing off their talents with precise movements & accuracy, they finalised each play perfectly. Best players were hard to pick with such a fantas c game, with our awards going to Jasmine Morgan & Amber Moulden. Thank you to The Victoria Hotel Shipwreck Bistro & Hair By Chloe (Taylormade Hair & Beauty) for dona ng these awards. Also, a huge thank you to our team sponsors, Onix farm & construc on and Michelle Stuckey Flowers.
B Grade: Port MacDonnell 36 defeated by Tantanoola 50. Back luck girls... a few silly errors throughout the game. Some great touches from Montanna at WD and everyone con nued to work hard all game. A Reserve: Port MacDonnell 47 defeated Tantanoola 35. The confidence booster that we all needed. We s ll had some lapses in judgement and some not-sogreat passages of play. But we kept going through all the changes and making the most of the turnovers and scoring our own. Defence worked relessly in crea ng turnovers, special men on to Lara who worked really hard at WD, a posi on she's not normally in. A ack line is really star ng to gel and work be er each game at reading where we are all going. Michelle con nually fought hard through the mid court. Best players: Michelle Moore (Victoria Hotel Shipwreck Bistro), Kelli Von Stanke (Chemist King).
A Grade: Port MacDonnell 44 defeated Tantanoola 42. It was a great game girls, our persistence and determina on paid off and we were able to secure the win. We went out strong and kept the lead all game, we had some great passages of play and our defensive pressure all over court was awesome. We s ll need to work hard to minimise our silly passing errors to ensure we are able to capitalise on our turnovers. We are star ng to play four consistent quarters, which we've been working hard to achieve, it's nice to watch as a coach what we are prac cing at training come out on game day. Best players: Kori Collins, sponsored by Australian Coastal Shipping (VoucherTaylorMade - Hair by Chloe), Alana Berkefeld, sponsored by J O. Berkefeld (Voucher - Victoria Hotel Shipwreck Bistro).
NETball club notes TANTANOOLA
Junior 2: I was thinking the early start to arrive at Pt Mac on me would mean all of you would s ll be half asleep on the court, but I was pleasantly proven wrong! I think that may have been due to the candy salad at 9am, but I'll take it! Each of you found space on the court, drove hard when required, and were good chocolate chips. I am so impressed with the posi ve talk on and off the court. We are all demonstra ng teamwork, which is also helping to improve our game each week! Awards were from Shanks Engineering & went to Lilly Vanderheul and Ellie Perry, you both helped the more junior players with direc on, drove hard down the court and to the ball, adapted to posi ons you were placed in and read the play well, resul ng in you both gaining intercepts. Although, everyone deserved awards this week!
Junior 1: Brilliant team game once again. My goodness you girls make me proud. You are all working together so so well. What we are working on at training is being reflected very well on the court. No more candy salad before the game though haha. Awards went to Gracie (Wendy's), amazing effort & drive down the court at both GD & WA. The other award went to Stella (Wendy's), your moving in the goal circle & your accuracy each week is improving all the me. Well done girls.
13 & Under: Wow what a nail biter game against Pt Mac. It did take us a while to get into the game which seen us 6 goals down at half me but we then se led & started to close the gap. Unfortunately with not enough me ending 2 goals down at the end of the game. Loved our fight ll the end. Nyree se led in her new goalie posi on moving well receiving the McDonald's Award & Chiara made her player work to get the ball in defence s cking ght receiving the Wendy's Award.
15 & Under: Super effort girls, going down to a top side by just 8 goals! Exci ng to see your hard work paying off with few skills errors and so much more confidence in yourselves and each other. Ma lda/Rachael and Tamika/Alice forming great partnerships each end of the court with Astyn, Alexis, Peyton and Summah working hard for good transi on down court - well done!
Awards: Alice (Fasta Pasta), Tamika (TNC Meal voucher), Astyn (Devine Gi s).
17 & Under: A tough day out for the girls last week. We thank Alice, Ma lda, Peyton and Aston for once again helping our side out and playing for us a er already playing a game. Despite the score line we all worked really hard to execute the goals we set as the game progressed. Defensively, Kaitlyn played a ripper game and got so many ps and gains to her name. In a ack we kept cool and calm despite their defensive pressure. Such a classy team we have
no ma er the score line. A big week ahead of us at training to work on the li le things and hopefully get back on the winners board. Awards went to Kaitlyn (Gino's) and Hailey (Sports Power).
B Reserve: Uncertainty, injury, illness and absence did not help our cause but were no excuse for our loss. There is a reason Pt Mac are on top of the ladder - a very strong and experienced team that deserve to be there. There were glimpses of how we can play but they were few. Sally (again scoring most of our goals), Kath, Riley had solid performances as did Amy (Devine Gi s) who took some mely intercep ons. Chloe claimed the Lima award, following direc ons to the le er
B Grade: We were at Port Mac on the weekend and with the weather being good and the chance of a possible win the girls were in good spirits. Every week we have been working on new things and focusing on strengthening our team and playing smart netball. The girls all had individual goals set for them for the game and they knew what they had to work on. A er the first quarter we were even with Port Mac but then our girls rallied and li ed and we started to play our own game. I'm super proud of the girls who showed con nued posi vity on the court and the constant backing each other up and never giving up was amazing! Through this we stay true to our game style and we came away with a great win.
A Reserve: In what was another perfect day for netball the Tigers headed to the Bay. We knew this game was going to be a hard-fought affair. The game didn't start out well. Turning over the first centre pass and numerous missed shots from our GS.
A lot of the Tiger's own mistakes gave the Demons a 6 goal lead in the first.
A few changes made saw fresh legs hi ng the court. Some changes were working and others not so well. The Tigers con nued to work on everything they were set with for the game. There were a lot of posi ves to take out of the game and once we minimise our own errors we will see a difference on the board. Although the scoreline finished up with us losing by 11 we definitely had our opportuni es. Best: Sophie BellmanFuel Voucher and Eva BondeSomerset Hotel.
A Grade: Although disappoin ng not to have played to the level we have the last few weeks, it did show us areas that we can con nue to work on. Too many unforced errors put us under pressure, which we were unable to recover from. Some illness over the last few weeks didn't help our prepara on, so I look forward to working hard in the coming weeks with a full healthy group again. Thanks to Alana who slo ed in well again at WD and Keryl for doing a good job at GK. Kate Varcoe (Gino's Pizza & Pasta), Emma Gould (Lima & Co).

We worked hard at ge ng in front and passing into space, applying what's happening at training into the game. The goalies med their leads, pa ently wai ng for the right op on to score. The mid courters applied defence and created many turnovers from the pressure all down the court, whilst also crea ng space and looking a er the ball when bringing it into a ack. The defence were on their toes, ready to take any intercepts or pull in any strong rebounds and took care to keep possession of the ball when bringing it back out. Thanks Sara for umpiring and Donna for ming. Awards went to Grace - Boost, MiaSportspower and Zoe - Macca's.
13 & Under: Well done girls. Lots of changes and everyone did a great job in any posi on I put you, which is great to see. S ll need to work on finding our player whether we are playing in a ack or defence, which will be easier to get in front leading to the ball. Keep working hard together and we will only get stronger and keep improving on our team game. Good job girls. Thanks to Laura for scoring, Erin for ming and Madi for umpiring. B Grade: Not the outcome we wanted. We started off slightly ra led. We struggled to get the ball down court effec vely. We need to remember to come front to the ball and to re-offer Some great passes into the goal circle we just need to be pa ent and put our passes in front and into space. Defence worked well. Let’s re-group at training and start strong against Tant. Thanks to Leah for umpire and Cathie Anne for scoring. Awards: Somerset – Stacey, Fasta Pasta/Igni on – Lilly, Sassi –Nicole.
A Reserve: What a great game saturday gave us, not only intensity but also condi ons! The game started out strong with both sides working over me to keep possession of the ball. Hard defence and high percentage shoo ng had the game only a few goals difference all the way to the end of the third quarter. Effec ve pressure through the mid court enabled turnovers for us and goalies conver ng at every chance. We snuck away with a 14 goal win with a fabulous team building and effort win! Well done girls. It was fantas c to see our passion and progression of trainings and hard work come to frui on. All players deserved best on and it was hard to choose one but our awards went to Ava - Grand Hotel, JasmineSomerset Hotel, Simone - Gino's. Thanks to the scorers, mers, umpires and cheer squad.
A Grade: It was a tough day on the court as we faced a strong Robe side, who only missed six goals throughout the game. Despite the challenge, we played some high-quality netball and gave it our all. Although we couldn't secure the win, we're really happy with our efforts and the way we competed. Thank you to Lisa for umpiring and Kathryn for ming. round 7 A GRADE NETBALL MATCH REVIEWS
Robe def. Mount Burr
Robe took the early break turning the ball to score Mt Burr’s centre. It was a close quarter with Robe goalies Demi Carter and Sarah Laurie shoo ng with almost 100% accuracy. Robe’s Annie Hunter and Lucy Perkins drove strongly to the circle and fed the goalies precisely. Danika Shepherd at GA for Mt Burr used her speed to drive the ball into the circle. Kimberly Aus n at GK for Robe forced errors, allowing Robe to have a 4-goal lead at quarter me. Mt Burr 11 to Robe 15.
Mt Burr’s Madi Hagge at GD and Laurie had a great tussle figh ng for every possession. Ella Easterby at WA for Mt Burr made space and drove well to the circle. Ashlee Dean in GS and Shepherd rebounded strongly, keeping Mt Burr in the game. Emille Gould at GD applied pressure over the shot making Mt Burr take the whole 3 seconds to shoot. Robe con nued shoo ng with accuracy, with Mt Burr’s defence having to work hard crea ng turnovers to gain possession. Schultz and Hunter con nued to drive strongly for their respec ve teams, ensuring the ball was delivered smoothly down court. Robe extended their lead by 2, with the half me score being Mt Burr 20 to Robe 26.
Mt Burr brought on youngster Abbey Fal ng to WD, a emp ng to contain the drive of Perkins onto circle edge. Dean was the focal point in Mt Burr’s circle, shoo ng at 100%, with Robe’s goalies con nuing to share the load. Robe’s a ack line demonstrated pa ence to find goalies, as Mt Burr’s Hagge and Thiele applied pressure. Robe made a tac cal change with Hunter moving into WD and Bates to C, a emp ng to increase pressure on Easterby. Schultz con nued to be an op on through the centre, allowing Mt Burr to retain possession, keeping the margin for the quarter to 1. Mt Burr 33 to Robe 40.
The final quarter started with both teams working hard defensively. Robe’s goalies had more scoring opportuni es. They con nued to shoot accurately, with Bates and Perkins having pa ence with their passing. Mt Burr tried to reduce the margin by moving the ball quickly when picking up a turnover, to break open Robe’s zone defence. This caused some passing errors, which Robe capitalised on. round 7 A GRADE NETBALL MATCH REviews
Port MacDonnell def. Tantanoola
Port MacDonnell hosted the Tigers in perfect playing condi ons. The Demons took the first centre pass, both teams applying pressure all over the court in the first few minutes of the game. Tantanoola defenders Kate Bromley and Bella Poulish set the defensive pressure early, working well together and earning the first turnover of the game. Pt Mac's defensive duo of Emily Thompson and Alana Berkefeld won the ball back for their side, resul ng in the first goal going to the Bay. The remainder of the quarter was a see-sawing affair, both Thompson and Berkefeld con nued to work over me, ge ng their hands to a lot of balls. Pt Mac’s centre Alysha Coon was finding space, bringing the ball down the court nicely & using her speed to her advantage. Port Mac pulled away a couple of mes through the quarter but the Tigers stayed with them through strong work in the goal circle from Emma Gould & Jami Walker. A great first quarter tussle from both teams saw the game all ed up at quarter me, 10-10.
The second quarter saw Tigers goalies Gould and Jami Walker swap bibs, Casey Walker move into C, and Kate Varcoe to WA Poulish came out to GD with the fresh legs of Keryl Ousey coming from the bench to GK which gave the Tigers some extra height in their defensive circle. Port Mac stayed with their star ng line-up. The Demons came out firing, with Thompson and Berkefeld ge ng early intercep ons, Coon and Cody Manning worked well in the mid court together, with clever passing into Megan Hein & Kori Collins. Collins had a strong quarter, shoo ng at 100%. Poulish and Ousey worked well together, un l Poulish came off with injury, bringing Bromley back on for another run at GD Gould and Walker moved well in the circle & were well supported by Kate Varcoe who was having an impressive game. Tant missed a few opportuni es and with Thompson and Berkefeld rebounding well & crea ng turnovers for the Bay, the Demons were able to edge ahead, leading 25-21 at half me.
The third quarter saw no changes from either team. Tantanoola came out hard and fast, with some turnovers from Ousey & Bromley helping their team start to close the small gap. The game became physical as both sides started to re a li le, but neither side were prepared to give an inch. Jami Walker was shoo ng well & was well supported on the ring by sister Casey & Kate Varcoe. Port Mac’s Hein & Collins were well held this quarter & given limited opportuni es, with any missed shots being rebounded by Ousey at GK. Tantanoola won the quarter with some impressive play - and took the slenderest of leads at the final break 32-31.
The final quarter was all Port Mac, Megan Hein dominate at GA with accurate shoo ng & captain Alana Berkefeld stepping up & providing crucial turnovers for her team, allowing the Bay to edge ahead on the scoreboard. Gould & Jami Walker did their best to keep their side in the game with crea ve play in the circle but Berkefeld was unstoppable with great support from Thompson. Kori Collins was well held by Ousey in the final term but Hein was able to step up & do the majority of the shoo ng. A physical affair with both teams desperate for the win, but a great spectacle with supporters from both sides apprecia ng the closeness of the game & the high standard of netball. Port Mac finishing on top, 44-42. Best for the Bay were Kori Collins and Alana Berkefeld. Kate Varcoe and Emma Gould took the honours for the Tigers.
Glencoe def. Nangwarry
It was an emo onal day for players and supporters at Nangwarry, as before the start of the A grade netball and football, all senior players from both Glencoe and Nangwarry gathered together on the oval for a minute silence for young Nangwarry football player, Dylan Podobnik. Many players being affected by the loss of a
friend and teammate.
The young Nangwarry netball team came together and supported each other to take the court, winning the toss and taking the first centre pass. Glencoe was stronger at the first blow of the whistle though, with star defender Sarah Edwards taking the first intercept and helping her team to score the first goal. The pressure of the Glencoe side con nued throughout the first 15 minutes, making the young Nangwarry side work hard for every possession. Sarah Edwards using her ability to read the play, took many intercepts throughout the first quarter Nangwarry's defence also worked relessly, with captain Kayla Gray at GK and Jemma Glynn at GD, giving their all to try and shut down the experienced Jenna Paproth at GA. Paproth's accuracy and movement in the circle was too good though, helping to get her team off to a great start, scoring 14 for the first quarter with the help from her teammate Madeline Watson, scoring 5 herself. Taysha Marshall at WD for the Saints was a great help to her team, using her voice and the space of the court to be a backup for the a ack line. The Saints were kept to a score of 1 in the first quarter.
At the first break, Nangwarry were the only team to make any changes, moving young star Alice Circelli from C to GA and using another talented young player, Shandeen Balshaw to fill the WA posi on, but the two then made a tac cal change during this quarter, with Balshaw using her speed and accuracy to add another 4 goals to the Saints score. Glencoe used their experience and skills to keep the defence going all the way down the court. Sarah Edwards and captain Donna Jaeschke, both spurred their team on, taking many intercepts and ge ng rebounds throughout the quarter. Maddi Stephens in C for the Saints, taking some control, helping her teammate and sister, Lacey Neale to bring the ball down the court and gain some more possessions in the goal circle. The pressure from two young talented up and comers, Alice Tentye at C and Makayla Maney at WD, was an addi onal force for the Glencoe side. Paproth and Watson helping get their side to a score of 40 by the main break.
Before the start of the third quarter, the Saints decided to make some more changes to their team. A newcomer to the Saints side, Sheridan Sakkers coming back onto the court in the GS posi on. Sakkers was able to score 2 for her team in the third quarter and her posi vity was definitely a help to her team, on and off the court, helping bring some laughter and fun into the young Nangwarry side. Paproth once again showing her strength in the goal circle for Glencoe, shoo ng another 12 from the 17 for her team. But that would not have been achieved without some beau ful passing and court structure from WA, Ashlee Pfitzner, Watson and Tentye. Gray s ll at GK for Nangwarry, using her height and reach to take in as many intercepts and rebounds as possible. During the quarter, Nangwarry used the new rule of tac cal changes again, bringing on coach and A Reserve player, Chrystal Lock into GD. Lock's experience and voice was a muchneeded li for the Saints.
At the final break, Nangwarry were once again the only team to make any changes, making changes to almost all posi ons. The young team scoring 4 for the quarter, but that score didn't reflect the hard work from all players. Glencoe players Paproth and Edwards shining in their posi ons down the opposite ends of the court. Young gun Makayla Maney also showing some amazing talent down the court. Paproth was able to add 11 to the scoreboard for Glencoe, Watson adding another 7. Final score was Nangwarry 11 to Glencoe 75. Best players for Nangwarry, Kayla Gray and Taysha Marshall. Best for Glencoe, Madeline Watson and Makayla Maney
The Nangwarry players and club, would like to send their sympathy and love to the family and friends of Dylan Podobnik.
Wishing all teams the best in 2024
