indigenous round
a part of big day of festivities planned at kalangadoo
This Saturday is Indigenous Round at the Kalangadoo Football and Netball Club, something they as a club are extremely proud and excited to support. James Brennan designed a special Indigenous Round guernsey. Something he based on the close
Kalangadoo family and community that means so much to the Brennan family. Tim Brennan will give his welcome to country and then present the fifth annual “Tim Brennan Indigenous Round” best player medal.
VIEW FROM THE HILL Another cool but sunny autumn day greeted us around the grounds last week providing perfect condi ons for football. We have been blessed with a run of decent weather for the past couple of weeks however, this may all change as we officially head into winter this week. Wet weather footy certainly is a different ball game but heading into the last game of the first round the current final four would appear to just about be set, just the posi ons might change. Quite interes ng to note that Mt Burr and Kongorong are just one game out of the four however their current form suggests that they are a fair way off the fourth placed side in Hatherleigh. There is s ll a lot of interest in the league and if Mt Burr and Kongorong want to see finals ac on, they need to start winning games against those teams above them on the ladder and who doesn't like knocking off a top four side? Hatherleigh hosted Mt Burr and given the home sides injury toll they would've been happy just to get the 4pts. Despite the excellent condi ons the game was a scrappy affair for most of the day with neither side able to take control of the game at any stage. No team had a forward line that func oned well which showed on the scoreboard and it was a game largely dominated by the defenders. Hatherleigh's only shining light was young Louis Brown who managed to get 5 through the big s cks and was named the home sides best player for the day. Hatherleigh's young guns dominated their be er players with Jack Gray (2nd), Luke MacGregor (3rd) and Zach Jones (5th) all 21 or under ra ng a men on with Sam Waring (4th) and Joe Ferguson-Lane (6th) the other be er players for the home side. For Mt Burr Nathan 'Ninja' Muhovics was his teams only mul ple goal scorer with 2, with official best players named being Tyler Stanley, Josh Wallis, Josh Fiebig, Sam Wallis, Andrew Ridley and Josh Murphy. The Nangwarry Saints welcomed a refreshed Tantanoola side to their ground and it was the visitors who were quick out the blocks scoring the first 6 goals of the match. Young Joel Virtanen stepped it up in the second quarter ge ng the scoreboard cking over for the home side with Nangwarry ge ng the be er of the centre clearances. Jack Dawe was tough and crea ve and a er hal ime Tantanoola asserted their dominance and even though they missed many shots at goal were s ll convincing winners all over the ground. Jak Ryan again was Tantanoola's focal point up forward and finished the day with 5 goals, Darcy Pink and Roy Osborne contributed 4 each and Troy Ha , Bradyn Reilly and young senior colt Cade Kelly kicking 2 goals each. Jack Dawe was again named his sides best followed by Chris Oliver, Pink, Osborne and Cam Saint. For the home side Joel Virtanen was
Nangwarry's only mul ple goal kicker with 4, with be er players named being George McWaters, Isaac Raymond, Virtanen, Ben Deamer, Luke Thomson and Kane Whitehouse Down at the home of the Hawks and they had a day they would rather forget as Kalangadoo gave them a football lesson to the tune of 125pts. Kongorong had no answer to the K'doo juggernaut as the visitors completely dominated the game from the first bounce. Michael Krieger was again in scin lla ng form contribu ng 5 goals and along with his side could do no wrong throughout the course of the day. Overall Kalangadoo had 11 individual goal scorers and winners across every line, none be er than Mitch Lowe who picked up BOG honours. Sam & Tye McManus had a day out picking up 2nd and 3rd awards with Billy Galpin, Andrew Stone and Ben Gregory rounding out the official best players list. For the home side, it is back to the white board as they were well and truly beaten in every posi on. Harry Evans was named their best in just his second game back for the Hawks, with other be er players named being Bryn Weaver, Ma Cordy, Michael Waters and Sco Fleming. The ba le of the seaside teams in Robe and Port MacDonnell went right down to the wire in a great display of country footy. In a ght and even tussle all day the visitors just had the edge on their opponents and prevailed in the end to the tune of 22pts. Robe added Billy Laurie to the side for the first me this year and he had an immediate impact with his quick hands and silky skills on show. Port MacDonnell got the jump in the first quarter and with a much be er conversion rate were able to apply that all important scoreboard pressure pos ng an accurate 51 to Robe's 2-3. The game con nued to see-saw with neither team being able to pull away on the scoreboard and at ¾ me the Bay had their noses in front by just 4pts and the stage was well and truly sent for a thrilling last quarter. The cream rose to the top, as it generally does, and Port MacDonnell was able to pull away with a 5 goal to 2 last quarter to eventually take the win. For the victors, Dylan Bromley, Kev Thomson and Brandon Newton all finished the day with 4 goals, with Jake Turner and Hamish Stevens kicking 2. Best players went the way of Bromley, Nathan Brotherton, Jake Schleter, Daron McElroy, Jacob Pfitzner and Hamish Stevens. Robe weren't that far away and with Zac Deane and Laurie (3 goals each) headlining the forward line they will only get be er and no doubt will form a very formidable combina on in the weeks to come. Robe's best went the way of Sam Clements, Tom Wachtel, Jordan Pe t, Laurie, Kaden Woodward and Jed Jarre . To this week's round of matches and even
though they are poles apart on the ladder, it wouldn't surprise to see Tantanoola take this week's game right up to Hatherleigh. Hatherleigh have been bi en by the injury bug, but on paper s ll look to have more than a compe ve side. Tantanoola are definitely on the up, and the inclusion of coach Jak Ryan may well have something to do with that. He certainly provides that forward focal point at which to aim at and he has been able to put the finish on the good work coming out of the centre. Hatherleigh's game plan is built around their young running brigade and it is here that I think the game will be won. They will need to work hard to get those allimportant centre clearances and restrain the likes of Dawe from ge ng anywhere near the ball, but if they are able to do this, they will get the chocolates come Saturday night. Kongorong make the short trip down to the Bay to take on their arch rivals. Kongorong need to put last week behind them and come out with a new mindset of playing each quarter on its merits and don't get too far ahead of themselves. Port MacDonnell, although having their fair share of injuries to contend with are fortunate with their depth this year to be able to cover these. With Port MacDonnell taking over second spot thanks to last weeks win over Robe I can't see them handing it over by losing this week. Their talls across every line will certainly test Kongorong and they will be too strong at home. Kalangadoo's score line against Kongorong last week would've certainly sent shivers up the spines of their rivals Glencoe. Glencoe will be hopeful of ge ng a few of their players back from injury a er last week's bye, as this might be their only hope that they might actually score! Given the Doo boys restricted Kongorong to just 1-5 I'm thinking 6 goals to Glencoe for the game would be seen as a good result. Kalangadoo will show no mercy, Krieger to have a field day and they will finish the first round undefeated. The final match this week is between Mt Burr and Robe. Robe have now dropped two on the trot and will be looking to rejoin the winners list today. Mt Burr doesn't match up too badly against the Robe side, but it's probably in the centre that Robe has the advantage. Robe's midfielders will get first use thanks to the work of Wachtel. How they deliver the ball into their forward line is going to be crucial as the Mt Burr defenders will be ready and wai ng to repel their a acks. The inclusion last week of Billy Laurie is a huge plus and he will just keep ge ng be er the more he plays. Robe will get the points but probably not as easy as it thinks.

150 senior games for varcoe at tigerland This Saturday James ‘Floppy’ Varcoe runs out for his 150th senior game as a Tiger. Star ng in the juniors, Floppy took out the Junior Colts Runner Up Best and Fairest and Leading Goal Kicker. In 2004 he took home the Senior Colts Most Consistent and played his first A Grade game. In his first full season of seniors he was a member of the 2006 B Grade Premiership and was awarded the Best First Year player. A brief s nt away from the club and a serious leg injury saw a break in games for ‘Varx’
but was lucky enough to play in 3 B Grade Premierships (2 as a Captain or Vice Captain) in 4 years (2013-16) and had a heartbreaking 3 point loss in the 2015 preliminary final. In 2018 Floppy took out B Grade Leading Goal Kicker and 2019 was B Grade coach and took home the Leading Goal Kicker trophy for the second year in a row. Supported by wife Kristy and children Isla and Nate, the Tantanoola Football Club would like to congratulate James on this long-awaited milestone and hope the body has a few games le in it yet.

KALANGADOO GLENCOE
Under 11: The Kalangadoo Junior Magpies con nue to improve and gain in confidence each and every week. There is some really pleasing football being played and the level of enthusiasm and passion for the game is high. The Under 11 numbers con nue grow each week with about 23 players taking the field against Kongorong. It was by far the best performance from the young under 11's with Nathan's tackle an absolute highlight of the match. The other most pleasing aspect of the game was the way the players are genuinely improving and looking for each other to move the ball forward. Junior Colts: The Under 14's played some of their best football as well. Thanks to some East Gambier players who helped out on the day the team was performed really well together with the scoreboard not a true reflec on of the game. Senior Colts: Timmy Brennan's Senior Colts team played some of their best football in the first quarter and were really able to be compe ve and keep up with the stronger Kongorong side. Unfortunately, although player numbers were posi ve, Kongorong were too good on the day and especially in the second half. Tom Jerome and Je Mules con nued their great form which is why they are con nuing to get the opportunity to play A Grade football B Grade: It was a really important game for the B Grade side and an almost must win to stay in touch with the final four. Unfortunately due to injuries and unavailability the side was moved around once again before the first bounce. The lads were massively compe ve however could not just get in front of Kongorong at their home ground. Be er players were Jus n Mansell and Liam Hay. It was great to see big 'Hayzey' playing for Kalangadoo a er injury. A Grade: The A Grade side travelled to Kongorong for what could have been a danger game. Although Kongorong did have some injuries our boys were absolutely clinical in their ball use and their ability to hit leading forward targets. Our back 6 again were amazing keeping the Hawks to only one goal in four quarters of football. Mitch Lowe, the McManus brothers and Andrew Stone were very notable players on the day. This being said however every player on the ground contributed to what was a really solid 125 point win.

All teams are looking forward to this weekend to complete Round 1 as we welcome neighbours Glencoe. The games between Kalangadoo and Glencoe are always well contested so it should lend themselves to another enjoyable day of football at Kalangadoo. Saturday will be a significant day for the football club for many different reasons. We officially cut the ribbon on the facili es upgrade. Mr Tony Pasin, Federal Member for Barker, Mr Nick McBride, State Member for Mackillop and Mr Des Noll, Wa le Range Council Mayor will all be in a endance to officially open our wonderful upgrade. The official party will arrive at 11.45am, formali es will kick off at 12pm sharp. Saturday is also Sponsors Day, given the impact Covid-19 has had on small businesses across Australia it is now more important than ever we as a club acknowledge your valued sponsorship and support. Without all of your valued contribu ons over the last 12 months we would not be func oning on and off the field with the success we currently are experiencing. Thank you for all you do, I look forward to catching up with you all on Saturday. Saturday is also Indigenous Round, something we as a club are extremely proud and excited to support. James Brennan designed a special Indigenous Round Guernsey. Something he based on the close Kalangadoo Family and community that means so much to the Brennan Family. I believe this will be one of, if not the most important and significant days in the club and community's history. A er the game, presenta ons will kick off at approximately 6pm. Tim Brennan will give his welcome to country and then present the 5th Annual “Tim Brennan Indigenous Round” best player medal. Saturday is also the Women’s Football Presenta on Night. Another thing we as a club are extremely proud and passionate about suppor ng. The women's football has made us more diverse and inclusive as a football club. Well done to all the girls for what they achieved in season 2020/21. They made finals for the 1st me in our history. I look forward to seeing the group together again and celebrate the season that was. See you all there for a significant day in the club's history. Go Maggies!

KALANGADOO GLENCOE
Round 7 saw the Hawks travelling across the hill to Glencoe on what proved to be a stellar day (weather wise) for footy. Junior Colts: The Junior Colts once again got the day underway hoping to put an end to their skid, displaying their usual amount of youthful energy and enthusiasm. A er a ghtly contested first quarter the scoreboard was ght with the home team only down by a solitary goal. The young Hawks loosened the shackles a bit in the second quarter however, pu ng together 4 goals while keeping the Glencoe side scoreless. A er a further 3 unanswered goals in the third quarter, you could have forgiven the Mini Murphies if they chucked in the towel, but this is never the case with this side, as they once again gave coach Rang their all right up un l the final siren, outscoring the Kongorong side in the last quarter, eventually going down by 45 points. Lachlan Brierly con nues to shine each week, and is pu ng together a very consistent season, taking out first best honours. Kaleb Price con nues to lead from the front and is a great presence when up forward, once again kicking a majority of the team's score with 2 majors, earning a nod for second best. Tyrone Siebert is finding some form in the middle part of the season, eleva ng to third best, while Leslie Jagger, Connor Tweddle and Kade Mulraney all ba led hard throughout the game to round out the best players. Senior Colts: As with the minis, the Senior Colts hit the ground with enthusiasm and determina on, facing a game that they knew would be hard fought against a talented Kongorong side. Both sides started aggressively displaying good ball use with some great passages of team footy. It was the Kongorong lads that made the most of their opportuni es in front of goal however, making more out of their 4 scoring shots than the Murphies. A 3 goal to 1 second quarter hurt the Murphies a er the first break, with the Hawks ge ng out to a 20 point lead by the main change. A rejuvenated Glencoe side emerged a er the half me break, with Boof spinning some wise words to the lads during the change. Over the course of the next half, the boys had 12 scoring opportuni es to Kongorong's 6, but not taking advantage of these forward advances ul mately cost the boys, eventually going down by 9 points. Will Maloney was a welcome addi on back to the side, kicking 3 goals to keep the side within reach throughout the game and earning first best honours, while Darcy Williams and 'G' Ros-Smith once again featured in the best players due to their determina on, run and team oriented footy. Isaac Mulraney, Ben Weedon and Timmy Mutch rounded out the awards for the Murphies, who will be looking forward to the bye to regroup and get that winning feeling back. Reserves: The Ressies were looking to get

back into the 'W' column a er a last minute loss to Robe and were looking forward to the challenge of a Kongorong side who were travelling pre y well. A er the Hawks got away to a blistering start, things were looking grim, but to the boy's credit, they fought back late in the first quarter to draw to within a goal at the first change. The second term was also a back and forth affair with both sides extremely accurate in front of the s cks, with only 4 behinds being scored in a total of 100 points combined. A er half me however, the dam eventually broke with Kongorong kicking accurately in front of the s cks while also limi ng the Murphy's damage on the scoreboard. Cam Brooks was a shining light in his second game for the day, showing pace and elusiveness to kick a third of the team's score, which earnt him BOG honours. Braedo ba led hard in the ruck all day, winning his share of taps to take out second best in his best game of the year, while Marcus McGrath, Niall Easterbook and Ali Sco can hold their (old) heads high, never saying die and leading from the front once again right up un l the final siren. Whi a will be looking forward to the day when he can actually put a full side on the park and really see if the lads can challenge the top sides. A Grade: In what seemed to be the theme for the a ernoon's slate of footy, the A Grade lads looked compe ve and zoned in during a tense and evenly ba led first half of footy. With only a point separa ng the sides heading into the main break, it looked to have the makings of a memorable game of footy. As with the Ressies however, the main bulk of the scoring went the way of the visitors with the Hawks adding 68 points to their tally, while the Murphies could only amass 24 of their own. So, if you've done your maths correctly, that amounted to a 43 point victory the other way. Mic-Mac was a welcome addi on back to the side, being the only mul ple goal scorer with 4 snags, while Pa y Mitch, Sauce, Robbie and Brodie added majors of their own. Pa y was a general once again, earning best on for the good guys, while Swanny put together another solid, consistent performance to take out second best. Pie also ba led hard all day ge ng his share of the pill to feature at 3rd, while Will Maloney backed up a er his stellar Senior Colts game to slot in at fourth best. Carey Megaw relished his opportunity back in the ones showing his fitness and run to earn a men on, as did Jake Blackwell in another solid workmanlike performance which would have undoubtedly pleased Easter. A er the bye we travel to the Magpie's nest, where hopefully we can get a few W's and head into the second half of the season with a bit of momentum and look to do some damage. Go Murphies!

PORT MACDONNELL KONGORONG
Junior Colts: Last week we travelled down to Robe. Once again Robe were a much bigger team than what we are. We started well, keeping Robe to two goals for the first quarter. Unfortunately we weren’t able to match it with Robe’s taller mber. There were some encouraging signs with the way we were able to fight it out in the final quarter. Our best players for the day were Harry Carol who has his best game for the season so far, finding plenty of the footy on the HB flank and also in the middle. Second best was Nathaniel Abbo who kept improving every game, and played well In the ruck. Running through packs and taking the game on. Third, Zaylen Smith who was once again rock solid on our last line of defence, and saved numerous goals by either ge ng a hand to it or marking the ball. Fourth, Kai Gilmore who ba led hard all day. Fi h, Zane Lewis who ran, chased and tackled hard all game. Sixth was Will Lewis who played both down back and on the ball. Let’s keep working hard on the track to keep on improving as a team. Senior Colts: Tough day for us on our longest trip for the year. We came up against a quality Robe side. We can take a fair few posi ves out of the weekend and hopefully keep building on that this week against Kongorong. Redan was our best basically having the ball on a string all game. Second best is Koby pu ng his body on the line like he does every week for the team. Third best Bradley played his best game for the year. Worked really hard both ways and took some nice marks. Fourth best was a new player to the club Jye. Great a ack on the footy an didn't stop giving 100% all day. Connor is fi h best rebounding the football out of our defensive 50 all day and never giving up. Sixth best went to Zeb C. who played a different role than usual and really gave us some run coming through the middle of the ground. Let’s go boys, bring on Kongorong this week. B Grade: A er a disappoin ng result against Hatherleigh, we went on the biggest road trip of the MSE fixture - a trip to Robe. A er a few weeks of chopping and changing the side the coaching staff looked to have a more se led side for a side that has only lost the 1 game, however, that was not to be, with weekly changes being necessary evil in B Grade football. In the first quarter the boys jumped out of the gates with an electric first few

minutes kicking the first few goals, however Robe was able to fight back and even the ledger. Same was the pa ern in the second quarter. In the third Robe came out and took control of the game kicking 5 goals to 1 to take a handy lead into the last quarter. The last quarter was a ght affair with the scoring drying up, with both sides only kicking 1 goal each. A er a hard-fought game Robe took out a much-deserved victory. Best for the week was Ben Milstead who is pu ng together a nice patch of form, second best was Lachie Tilley who came back into the side last week and is star ng to hit his straps, third best Caleb Catena who played one of his best games for the club, fourth best was Gus McGregor who just doesn't play a bad game, fi h best was Brad Creek who also doesn't play a bad game, a er a li le injury lay off he has come back fresh and firing. This week we welcome the old enemy Kongorong. These are always great games, and it will be great entertainment. A Grade: A sun-drenched Robe oval greeted us for the round 8 clash. A er a hard-earned win against Hatherleigh the previous week, we looked to con nue the good form into the Robe contest. The first quarter the boys jumped out the blocks brilliantly kicking the first few goals to put the pressure on Robe, in the second quarter Robe came back like the good team they are to level the score up by half me. The third quarter was a ght affair with both sides only kicking 1 goal each. In the last quarter the boys played a brilliant quarter to kick 5 goals to 2 to take out a really good win. Best for the week was Dylan Bromley who was brilliant in a great 4 quarter effort, second best was Nathan Brotherton who has had a great year in defence and rarely gets beaten, third best was Jake Schleter who has had an injury interrupted season but has strung a couple of games together and star ng to hit good form, fourth best was Daron McElroy in another dominate performance in the ruck, fi h best in his best game for the club Jacob Pfitzner, sixth best was Hamish Stevens who also has missed a few games with injury but is star ng to show some great form. This week we host Kongorong in the last game of the first round. Don't forget a er the game we are having Flight Night. Grab some friends and s ck around for a good night of entertainment.

PORT MACDONNELL KONGORONG
Another great day weatherwise for footy, and thanks to the grounds commi ee for all their efforts on Friday to get the oval ready for match day. The results for the day went as follows: Minis: Thanks to Kalangadoo for a good fun game last week. Our best player was Connor Gordon, then Nate Von Stanke-Dowie who was super keen to get in and under, Tyler George is having a par cularly good start to the season and Charlie Lasle went for a few runs. We played a very chao c/forward surge style of game which resulted in a lot of behinds, so we need to con nue learning, calm down and share the ball around. Looking forward to the next game to see if we can improve on some of those things. Junior Colts: In perfect condi ons once again for footy and our oval looking a picture, we welcomed the Kalangadoo Magpies. Having nearly the full list to choose from for the 1st me in a long me was a great opportunity to look at some different structures throughout the game. It was great to get off to a strong start from the 1st bounce with some quality team football being played and to con nue this throughout the game as we swapped players around was pleasing to see. The team footy had us scratching our heads on the sideline once again, trying to work through the best players. The Swallow Drive Meats best player went to Bam Kent who is really star ng to develop into a very smart player and bringing teammates into the game at every opportunity. Second best and Rocks Shop Award went to Jacko Bald who chipped in to play a bit of me for Kalangadoo during the game, but also found a bit for us whilst in a few different posi ons throughout the 4 qtrs. Logan Cordy another of our 1st year players is growing in confidence each week and is developing into a smart footballer with quick hands and some strong tackles took home the Rocks Tavern Award. Rarely beaten playing at full back most weeks and for half a game again before going to full forward and kicking a couple of goals for his efforts, Toby McKinnon took home the Mick Mullan Encouragement Award. Last week we saw our captain in Kur s Lasle get back to some of his best footy playing in several different roles throughout the game and driving the ball forward with run and carry received the Coaches Award. The Angelino Family Award went to Jobe Janeway who is con nuing to hold down a key posi on and showing some strong hands with solid grabs around the ground. Today we travel down the road to what is always a tough game as we look forward to finishing of the 1st half of the season on a high against the Bay. Go Hawks! Senior Colts: In this weather why wouldn't you want to play football? The boys were eager for a run and run they did. We had plenty out for various reasons which saw the opportunity for 4 sets of brothers to play in the one side, which is great for the family atmosphere at Kongorong. Ma hews Petroleum best on ground award went to the Texan (James Allen) for his reless efforts on the flank, with lead a er lead and a clean set of hands to produce some great footy. The Janeway Concre ng Award went to the man that is hi ng some consistent good form running off the back flank and would be a nightmare for an opponent to run down once he sees he has a chance to run, Riley

Maconachie. The bloke that likes to hit the a erburners and run like there's no tomorrow is Harry Langlands, his effortless week in week out efforts earnt him the MT Wheels Award. Badenoch's Deli went to George Stanley who was given the chance to have a run in the middle and up forward and even showed he knows where the goals are at both ends of the ground and is a great kid to watch learning his skill. Maverick Cooper kept his great form going from our previous game and was in everything and trying to bag a few and is always bringing others into the game through his unselfish play with the Badenoch's Award. The Spot-On Fishing Award went to 'Shakalicious' Shak Von Stanke who tried relessly to get the ball and finished with 2 goals and even ran the length of the field only to find the water bo le at the end of the run, but his endeavour is always high. We look forward to a ght contest today with Port Mac in what is always a hard-fought ba le. Reserves: We went into the game a li le short ge ng a couple of blokes out of re rement but right from the first bounce we were switched on and ready to go. With a great team effort from everyone we came away with a big win. Coming back from injury and named captain, Tommy Von Stanke kicked 6 goals for the day. Congratula ons to Tom for playing his 100th Senior Game, it's been a long me coming due to injuries throughout his playing career, but one well deserved none the less, well done Tom. Second best Fraser Brewster, third Ryan Rutkowski, fourth big Stringer (Lachie Brown), fi h Nugget (Brayden Leicester) and rounding out the best was Callum 'Waggs' Wagstaffe. A Grade: What started out to be a great day for footy, for the A Grade soon became a dark cloud, as we were over ran by a class act in Kalangadoo. Fast running and silky-smooth skills, Kalangadoo put in their best performance for the year, leaving no ques on as to why they are undefeated thus far. Injuries plaguing our side, with another during the warm-up, had us ba ling hard l the very end. Blokes who never gave up and while not at his best yet, Harry Evans put in a solid effort to get the Commercial Hotel Award. Captain Bryn Weaver led from the front and received the Collins Court Butcher Award for second best. Ma Cordy con nues his consistent effort to gain the Killara Food Centre Award. Sco Fleming ba led hard all day to receive the Pick Ave Bakery Award. Thanks to those that turned up for the woodchop last week. We have wood for sale so get in touch with a commi ee member to sort yourself a load. Congratula ons to our Volunteer of the Month Ange Von Stanke. Ange commenced the treasurer role earlier in the year and has taken to it like a duck to water, together with all the awesome photos she takes of our junior footy, Ange was considered as a no brainer for the award. Thanks to the juniors and parents that helped out at clean up Sunday and died up along the eastern side of the oval, looks a treat. A er today's game at Port Mac we head to the Bellum Hotel for the award presenta ons, so pop in on the way home for either a meal or a beverage. Good luck to all teams today against the Bay.

MOUNT BURR ROBE
Last week we travelled to Hatherleigh where a sunny but cool day greeted us. Unfortunately we couldn't get a win from the four games but a er speaking to all coaches they are pleased with the effort their teams are showing on the field and the improvement from individuals are certainly no ceable. It was great to see so many players and supporters get back to the Somerset a er the game to enjoy a meal and support one of our sponsors. Thanks to everyone. Today are our team photos. Cost is $15 payable to your respected team manager. Thanks to Sonya Francis for taking the photos and Clint Bowering for doing the prin ng, much appreciated. Tonight hang around for the Ba le at the Burr - Footballers vs Netballers catered to all ages, should be a fun night. Junior Colts: Last weekend we came up against Hatherleigh and knew we were going to have to ba le all day, to the boys credit they did. The tackling pressure was there, the run was there, it was great to see. Thanks to Hatherleigh who lent us players and made sure all the kids had a run. Dylan and myself couldn’t be any prouder of the way our boys played and they should all be proud too. Charlie Bevan never quit all day and just kept going, Will Wimshurst rucked all day and provided us with an op on around the ground and Rylan McKay was strong in defence. The best players could have gone to anyone, all the kids played well and we can definitely see improvement developing week to week. This week we have Robe for another challenge and we are looking forward to see the boys play 2nd qtr

another strong game. Cheers, Tom. Senior Colts: Last week we travelled to Hatherleigh and lost narrowly in a great four quarter effort. The boys are playing some great team football and will hopefully keep on improving today and in the second round. Best players were Kallan Bevan who consistently keeps ge ng the ball. Jayden Poulish was strong in defence all game. Je Bowering played a great leader’s game. Calum Sparkes con nues to improve and covers ground all day. Finleigh Altschwager sacrificed his own game for the team and was rock solid in defence and Charlie Bevan did his job when given his opportunity. A Grade: It’s been a funny year so far - lapses, injuries, wins, losses, men dressed as women and farmers walking sausage dogs. But it beats last year and at least we’re playing football! Saturday saw us travel to Hatherleigh to take on the Eagles on what was probably the last of our sunny Saturdays. I loved the way our boys a acked the football and moved but 5 minutes here and there unfortunately won’t beat the good sides. We’ll con nue to grow and get be er - as that’s our only op on. It’s great being able to see what our younger brigade can do and I’m impressed at what they’ve delivered so far. Best players for the day were Knife, Joshy Wal, Fiebs, Sam Wal, Andy Ridz and Big Murph. MOUNT BURR ROBE
Senior Colts: Last week was another great day for footy, the sun was shining and there was li le to no wind. Port Mac made the long journey down to our home ground. We wanted to send them back licking their wounds. With the Robe boys on top and looking to secure another win, the day was set for a spectacle. With the KNTFL not playing games due to COVID the crowd was abnormally large and buzzing with atmosphere. The Robe boys came out the blocks early in the first quarter and kicked 5 goals in quick succession. Port Mac were able to move the ball from their backline well with some kick mark movement, but couldn't capitalise in front of goals, kicking only the 1 point. In the second quarter, Robe looked to con nue their onslaught piling on another 3 goals but Port Mac were able to penetrate our 50 and kick a goal of their own. A er a firing up at half me, Robe looked like they were on a mission. We piled on another 7 goals with the forwards Max Robertson, Codee Weston, Nathan Gibbons, Jai Waterman and Mitchell Nunan all securing goals to their name. Port Mac looked ra led as they were unable to score for the quarter. In the last quarter, we changed our board around, giving opportuni es for players to play in different posi ons. Ollie Hagge elected to go full forward to have a rest from the midfield. He led up well and was provided silver service from his teammates, he finished with 5 majors for the day. The Robe midfielders, Ethan Cornish and Flynn Peel, again dominated the middle with their pace and ability to be at every contest. We came away with a 116-point victory over Port Mac. Congratula ons to the Robe Senior Colts who were selected to play Interleague. I know you will do the red and white proud. Next week we head to the Mozzies nest to take on Mt Burr at home. Make sure you can get there as it will be another fierce ba le for the chocolates. See you there! Tom 'Woka' Wachtel. Reserves: Coach Weir’s Reserves side fronted up for another tough match against the second placed Pt MacDonnell at home last Saturday. Pt Mac definitely jumped out of the gates stronger but we eventually worked our way back into the match a er some adjustments to go into half- me 11 points down. At the half me break we were “gently” reminded as to the importance of the contest by assistant coach Carter and responded magnificently with a 5.3 to 1.1 3rd quarter to take a 15 point lead into the last break. The final quarter was ght

with Pt Mac pushing forward hard to try and regain the lead and a er some nervous moments and some scrambling in defence we eventually held on for an important 17 point win which moves us into second place on the ladder. A massive thank you once again to the Senior Colts who put their hands up to help us out. We look forward to travelling down to Mt Burr this weekend to hopefully consolidate what has been a promising start to the season so far before enjoying a well earned week off. A Grade: It promised to be a great game of football between two evenly matched teams at Robe on Saturday. The condi ons were perfect for football and a large crowd was in a endance. Pt Mac were quickly out of the blocks and had three goals on the board when an unfortunate injury to Tom Williams of Robe stopped the match and allowed Robe to gain composure and gradually get back into the game however Robe were inaccurate in front of goal and at quarter me the Demons led by fi een points. The Demons were playing with more system and clean with their ball movement whilst Robe were relying on pressure and flooding forward. Robe upped the pressure and played ght hard football and gradually in the second quarter got back into the game however late in the quarter the Demons scored two quick goals a reduced Robe’s lead to two points. All set for a great second half. Robe started the third in great form moving the ball well and extended their lead to 14 points. However the Demons were not to be denied and scored two quick goals to bring themselves back into the game. The game was a great spectacle, hard ght football with patches of brilliance and patches of hard slog. Robe seemed to have to scramble for their goals while Pt Mac scored their goals easily when they were able. At the end of the quarter the Demons led by four points. Game on in the last quarter. The team that would win would be the team that could remain focussed and who were prepared to use the ball cleanly. The last quarter was played in exactly the same way as the first three quarters, however the Demons absorbed the pressure and used the ball with precision which resulted in them running out easy winners by four goals. Robe’s lack of ability to put scoreboard pressure and kick clutch goals in the last quarter was disappoin ng and is something that they will need to address if they are to be a serious contender in 2021. Calcu a Sam Clements, Tom Wachtel and Jordan Pe t.

spor ngpulse.net Find us on Facebook: Tantanoola Football and Netball Club Junior Colts: The young guys kicked off the dew on a calm morning and the Nangwarry boys came out in the first quarter full of life and really showed us how to a ack the ball. We had some good passages of play but we really need to work on hi ng the ball hard and running through it with our body and not let it get behind us. Now it's onto the undefeated Hatherleigh which I'm sure if we give our all we can get a good result. Bests were Will, Ashton, Kaden and Evan. Awards Will (Dentons), Evan (Jennings), Ethan (Hungry Jacks) Kobe (Maccas). Senior Colts: The boys started off a bit slow but by the end of the first quarter we started to get in the swing of the game that we had been trying to play. This week we take on Hatherleigh with the winner finishing off the first round in 2nd posi on so let's get out there and have a good crack. Best players were Will, Sam, Cade, Ellis, Saxon. B Grade: Hi everyone. Well it was a perfect day for footy at Nangwarry on Saturday and our guys turned up to play which was very pleasing. It's always a tricky game to head over to Nanga's, especially a er a bye but I thought our guys played a pre y good game all around. Best players were Nick Cory, DC, Bundy, Minky and Spoggy. Up the Tigers! A Grade: G'day everyone. With a well needed week off and some rested bodies the boys were keen to get moving and keep stepping forward a er their first win of the season a fortnight ago the boys made the trip up to Nangwarry to take on the Saints. The boys came out firing in the first quarter with 5 goals to start, then Nangwarry made their run late in the second and early in the third but the lads held strong, stuck to our structure and it resulted in giving the Tigers their second win of the season. A lot more work to be done but plenty of steps in the right direc ons. Bests in no order were Chris Oliver, Cam Saint, Darcy Pink, Roy Osborne and Jack Dawe.

TANTANOOLA HATHERLEIGH
Junior Colts Last week we came up against Mt burr, the first half was a close game with great pressure from both sides making each other work hard for their possessions and to score. We ended up scoring 2 goals the first half through some good passages of play. The second half we se led and were clean with our skills across the ground resul ng in a few more goals, Brayden chambers presented well up forward finishing the game with 4 goals, Ollie, Riley and Charlie con nued their good form while Jack Bellinger fought hard in the ruck against a handy opponent. Very happy with how the team are showcasing the hard work we have been pu ng in at trainings and throughout the season. Best players: Brayden Chambers (Dentons sport power) Ollie Fitzgerald (Millicent Toy kingdom) Riley Prouse (Stumpy Nilsson) Charlie Sims (peter Walters) Isaac Chambers (Ladies commi ee canteen) Senior Colts It was a tough game for the senior colts with Mount Burr pushing the boys for 4 quarters. In the end they ground out a solid win & were the victors by 16 points. It was a solid team effort across the board. Best on ground was Harvey Jones, kicking six goals, Paddy Chay was second best, playing kicking 2 goals and roving all over the ground. Je Faulkner had plenty of the ball, Ethan Leopold won plenty of ruck contests all day & Ethan Bowman had his usual game, racking up possessions & using his ball skills.
another cracker of a day weather wise. Everyone was keen to get the job done for our team fossil Luke Haines in his 300th game. We came out with a big first term kicking 7 goals and ge ng our hands on the ball first in the middle. Captain Rural didn't last much longer, doing a hammy in the second quarter which le Hainesy as our main target up forward. On one leg and with one eye he managed to snag 6 goals for the day in a best on ground performance. It was good to have James Telford playing, he added an extra dimension through the midfield and got his hands on the footy a lot around the ground. He was well supported by Ryan Lindner and Dyl through the midfield, whilst Ben Leopold got plenty of the footy in a pleasing game down back. A good team performance in the end and was good to celebrate with Hainesy a er the match. Goal kickers: Haines 6, Rural & Muff 4, Jez 3 and Altsch and young Tige in a rare sigh ng down forward with 1 each.
Reserves Back at the nest for round 8 and
A Grade We played host to Mount Burr last weekend in what was a ght and physical contest, it was clear from the start Mount Burr we're going to bring a lot of physical pressure which resulted in a scrappy game. We got a li le lead early and with a four quarter effort we added to it every quarter and ended with a 5 goal win. Louis brown was best on ground being electric up forward with 5 goals, Jack Gray and Luke Macgregor were solid in defence all day while Sam Waring had another big day in the ruck winning plenty of the ball. Next week we head over to Tant for another big game.

COVER story
faulkner to play 300th senior game for the eagles today Sarah Faulkner celebrates her 300th senior game for the Hatherleigh Netball Club this weekend against Tantanoola. Sarah's netball journey begun at the Junior 2 level, a dynamic player, Sarah se led quickly as a mid-court player, and over the years has cemented the posi on of C as her own. Well known for her dedica on and determina on, we saw her play her first A Grade game in 1998 at the very young age of 15. Sarah con nued to thrive as a youngster and in 2002 won the A Grade Runner-up Best and Fairest medal and went on to win the Best and Fairest medals in 2003 and 2006 a er consistent seasons. 2010 to 2016 were stellar seasons for Sarah, winning further Best and Fairest and Runner-up awards in the A Reserve and was awarded the MSENA B&F Runner-up in 2012 and the MSENA Best and Fairest and Senior Consistency award in 2015. She returned to the A Grade in 2017 and 2018 and was rewarded with further individual accolades winning back-toback Club Best and Fairest awards. Sarah has represented the Mid South East Netball Associa on as part of the A Grade side since 2014 and has recently been selected to play in 2021. A highlight was being a member of the winning A Grade Country
Championship team in 2018, a feat that the MSENA had not achieved for 22 years. Sarah has been a recipient of the MSENA Team of the Year honours on five occasions - 1999, 2003, 2006, 2017 and 2018. Sarah was an integral member of the B Grade premiership side in 2000 and the A Reserve premiership side in 2011 and has coached the 15&U side to a premiership in 2018. A dedicated sports family, younger daughters Tori and Alex are following in mum's footsteps and currently playing in Hatherleigh's junior teams, Sarah con nues to play in the A Grade to this day and is currently enjoying the unique opportunity to play alongside eldest daughter Lacey. Sarah is a hard worker around our club, being involved at commi ee level, coaching both senior and junior grades and umpiring over the years. Her commitment to junior development has seen her join the coaching ranks as part of the South East Regional Netball Academy and she is currently coaching the Hatherleigh 15&U side and taken on the role of junior coach mentor. A huge congratula ons Sarah from everyone at Hatherleigh on your achievements and we wish you all the best for your milestone game today.

ROUND 9 A GRADE NETBALL PREVIEW PORT MACDONNELL v KONGORONG Port MacDonnell are at home this week and host their neighbours Kongorong. Port MacDonnell went down to Robe by 23 goals, while Kongorong were trounced by Kalangadoo to the tune of 71 goals. The Demons have only won the 1 game this year, while Kongorong remain winless. Port MacDonnell should regain coach Kirby Carrison, who was unavailable last week, there is some doubt however about whether Morgan Amy will line up while she is nursing an injury. Kongorong have some injury concerns of their own as youngster Georgia Seidel is looking unlikely to play again this season a er suffering a knee injury against the Magpies. Brooke Williams has had a consistent season to date and will likely line up against Riley Buckingham who is a talented youngster, playing good netball. This will be a good match up to watch. Lisa McGregor was named in the best for the Bay on Saturday, she could line up against Emalee Stokker who has been the focal point for the Hawks this season. Port MacDonnell’s midcourt trio of Jess Trench, Michelle Moore and Montanna Millard should have the upper hand on the Hawks’ centre players who haven't really been able to gel due to injuries. Both teams will be looking for a win to complete the first round, however Port MacDonnell should take the points at home. KALANGADOO v GLENCOE Kalangadoo take on Glencoe at home for the first me since the 2019 grand final where Kalangadoo took the flag in a close contest. Kalangadoo remain undefeated in 2021 while Glencoe have suffered a couple of losses against Mt Burr and Hatherleigh. Glencoe are coming off the bye while the Magpies had a huge win against Kongorong last week.
There will be some exci ng match ups, Jayde Peacock and Donna Jaeschke always have a great tussle through the middle which as always will be great to watch. Abbey Duncan will likely line up against Sarah Edwards, both these girls' agility and skill will make for a great spectacle. Kalangadoo's defence line has been outstanding this season, however Chloe Pra went down with an ankle injury and could be in doubt. They s ll have great depth with Chelsea Croser and Mikaila Pi able to cause their opposi on a lot of grief. Both Kalangadoo and Glencoe have been giving their juniors quite a bit of senior experience this year, and this will be a big game to test their strength and ability should they take to the court this week. Melissa Russell was outstanding against Kongorong, shoo ng 18 goals straight in the second quarter. Whoever takes the GK bib for the Murphies will have their work cut out for them. Kalangadoo have not put a foot wrong this year and should take the points in a close match. MOUNT BURR v ROBE Mount Burr take on Robe at home this week. Mount Burr suffered a narrow loss against Hatherleigh on the weekend, whilst Robe defeated Port MacDonnell by 23 goals. Mount Burr have been a talking point in 2021, playing some brilliant netball with their new combina on. Robe have struggled with injury but have s ll managed to put a compe ve team together each week. Madi Hagge has been playing some excellent netball, and combined with Heidi Clark, they will be doing their best to keep Robe's goalies Sarah Laurie and Tori Gluyas under control. Down the other end of the court, Robe's Georgia Perkins and Alannah Campbell have been working well in defence, and
Proudly supporting the Mid South East Football League
they will have their work cut out for them against the Mozzie's Ebony Clark and Sarah Nulty who have gelled together well and are shoo ng with high accuracy. Robe have lost a couple of mid courters due to injuries earlier this year, while Mount Burr's mid court have been in great form so far this season. While Robe will be compe ve, Mount Burr will be looking to bounce back from their loss last weekend and should get the win at home. TANTANOOLA v HATHERLEIGH Tantanoola take on Hatherleigh at home in what could be the match of the round. Both teams are in scin lla ng form and will be looking to cement their spots in the top four. Hatherleigh had a close win last week against Mount Burr, while Tant had a big win against Nangwarry. Hatherleigh's midcourt are in amazing form with Sarah Faulkner, Tegan Merre and Lara McGregor combining well together and making it tough for opposi on midcourters. The Tigers’ mid court comprising of Casey Walker, Vic and Alex Lucas are also an extremely formidable combina on. The ba le of the midcourters will be one to watch. The Tigers’ goalie combina on of Emma Gould and Jami Walker have been working well together, ably fed by their midcourt, finishing off with a high shoo ng accuracy. Maddie Redman and Sarah Broadhead will be working over me to stop the influence of Gould and Walker. Down the other end of the court, Maddie Pulmer and youngster Lacey Haines for the Eagles will be very hard to beat, however Tant's Kate Bromley and Tayla Rowe will be doing their best to keep them at bay. Toss of the coin for this game, Hatherleigh should take the points, but Tant will make them earn it and could cause an upset. Nangwarry has the bye.

NETball club notes Junior 2: What a start, we finally got everyone where they needed to be on court! Ella played an amazing game at goal shooter, only need to work on catching the ball more, received the McDonalds award. Both Sophie (Muffin Break award) and Jorji (Bakers Delight award) combined well in the middle of the court received best players also. Everyone has to prac ce more on shoulder passes during the games so more training in this part we will con nue. Well done, everyone is improving each week great job. Junior 1: Great effort li le Magpies. We're showing some great improvements in our a ack line, with girls working hard to get ball side and push passes into the space. Defensively, all players are working hard to cause turnovers and our circle defence is prac cing their turn and blocking. You li le Magpies are a great bunch of girls to work with, you should all be so proud of your efforts so far this season. Awards: Molly (Paradise Pizza), Ava (Bakers Delight). 13 & Under and 15 & Under: Another successful day working teams together (with 17/U assistance) and ensuring all players get equal court me while giving several the opportunity to “play up a grade”. The bonus was results on the board in all grades. Awards: Chloe (Fasta Pasta); Ash, who is really star ng to hit her straps in defence (Athlete's Foot); Shayden (Bakers Delight); Ma lda (SAL) and Keira, whose hard work at training with Lucy is paying off (Copenhagen). I must men on our goalies, Tegan, Shayden and Alice whose shoo ng accuracy ranged between 75% and 85%. 17 & Under: Welcome back Maddy, great to have you back on court (F45 award). We had lots of changes and adapted well. Sophie played strong through the centre with some brilliant passes into the circle (Athletes Foot award). Shelby played another ripper in defence combining well with Em and Holly. Kori showed again how well she can create space and combine well with all combina ons. Abbey and Eb con nue to show how capable they are at this level. Congratula ons to Molly and Ash on their first 17s game. B Reserve: Even without our dynamic centre (get well soon Bills!) we proved too strong all over the court. Rhi (Chelsea Feast award) had a par cularly good game, shoo ng accurately and delivering some unbelievable passes to Jodi. Jodi responded with great posi oning and passes of her own. Deb (Margaret Street Meats) commanded the defence and with Abbey by her side had things really “working”. Was great to get Georgia
NETball club notes (who has been si ng bench for us) on court to play with her mum even if one pass nearly turned her inside out! Georgia did really well and I'm not sure who was the most happy, Jodi or the whole team. Ok it was Jodi but a close call. B Grade: This week we welcome back Bel to the team and look forward to having everyone back next week. We started the first quarter strongly with our defenders crea ng many opportuni es for turnovers. Brianna, Bel and Gina all shot well and made good use of what the defenders created. Jess and Jolie were very effec ve through the mid court and fed the ball to the shooters consistently throughout the game. Kongorong shot well and didn't give many chances for rebounds but all of our circle defenders adjusted and consistently got intercepts. Let's end the first half of the season strongly and con nue to improve on our own game. Best: Birdie Blue - Lucy Williams, Fasta Pasta - Jessica Blackmore, F45 - Brianna Gale. A Reserve: Well we definitely had the start we wanted last week a er a few slow ones, with everyone pu ng on lots or pressure across court as requested. As usual Anthea was cool, calm and collected and controlled the tempo of the mid court, direc ng play to the a ack line and playing some very smart netball, while our back line combined well with Emmason to create some beau ful turnovers and make Kongorong work hard for any transi on that did occur. While Maddy's con nued growth / improvement / self-belief and con nuing to be adap ng to how we play is great to watch and the combina on of her and Eb in proving a lethal combina on. This week will be our toughest game to date so let's just keep on doing what we work so hard on and believe in ourselves and prove we are finals contenders. Also, a big thanks and goodbye to Re who played her last game for us the week prior, you were a huge asset to the team and will be missed on court but know you will be just as valuable on the sidelines x. A Grade: Great team effort to maintain a high intensity throughout the four quarters. Mel was a dominant focal point in the circle and together with Abbey worked hard to make the most of every scoring opportunity. Aunty Jane had some great passages of play in a ack and caused headaches for her opponent when in defence. Chloe, Mickey and Chelsea had a good vibe and worked relessly to cause endless turnovers. Score Kalangadoo 93 def Kongorong 22. Best players Aunty Jane (Caltex), Chlostar (Beauty by Re).
Junior 2: Amazing game girls, everyone played well. Defence skills and leading towards the ball is fantas c by every single girl with them all ge ng an intercept. First best (Metalworx Award) went to Hallie Sealey for amazing play throughout the four quarters and second best went to Jaylee Gosden for great defence throughout the game. Junior 1: Another fantas c game by every single one of you girls! Good talk on the court, some great plays, passes and intercepts by everyone. One thing we just need to work on is taking that extra step towards the ball to get the front posi on. Best player (Eddie Kuhl Tyres Award) went to Emmerson Govan for her many touches all game and some great leads. Encouragement went to Isabella Brierley, all the way down the court you are everywhere and picking up loose balls. Again amazing game girls, keep up the good work! 13 & Under: 16-5. Fantas c game played by all 8 players. Everyone gave it their best with coming to the ball and using their voices. A ackers fed beau fully to the shooters and was a great second effort with hand pressure and many turnovers. Amelie played a fantas c game, earning herself the Dycer Construc on Award with great turnovers and touches - super proud of your game. Shae played a massive centre game with a acking and defence for the en re game, to get second best. We as a team just need to remember to breathe and have control - we play much be er when we take our me. Super proud and congratula ons on the win girls. 15 & Under: 24-33. Fantas c game played by everyone. You girls had great drive down the court, you found space and talking between each other was great to hear. You girls believed in each other and played a really good game. Jorja Burdon and Cedar Sco worked well together in the defensive circle and Tayliah backing up with many intercepts and cu ng off drives into the goal ring. Jena giving 100% and applying extra pressure during the opposi on passes and down the court. Both Jasmine and Zoe playing half a game and re offering and talking to the shooters. Montana and Alyssa shot well together and rebounded well when needed. You girls should not be disappointed with the outcome, you all played really well, sadly we didn't take the win but the smile at the end, you guys certainly deserved. Let’s look forward to the next game and applying the same game play. Maloney Plumbing Award went to Jorja Burdon and second best Cedar Sco . 17 & Under: 50-25. Fantas c game girls! Everyone started really strong, with lots of great transi ons all the way down the court. Zoe and Lilly had a great half in goals together doing lots of quick passes between them. We had lots of strong hands all the way down the court, crea ng lots of pressure for our defenders to take some great intercepts. Zali had an excellent game pu ng herself in a great posi on to take lots of intercepts and her strong rebounding got her
best player (DeGaris Lawyers Award). Second best went to Lilly (Donut King Award) for her great ming in the goal circle and excellent shoo ng. Special men on to Lara who did some fantas c feeding into the circle and drove hard all day. Let's keep pushing ourselves at training and start today really strong. B Reserve: 55-12. Good effort girls. Thanks to Ange we had plenty of voice all over the court and lots of direc onal play - this seems to come with the GD posi on, earning herself the Key 2 Sale Award. Second best went to Bri for great driving and op ons in the goal circle. We had a set goal in mind and came close to achieving it. Lots to work on this week but we will get there. Let’s come out firing on the next game. B Grade: 62-35. Our first quarter was one to forget but Amy and Sam worked over me ge ng plenty of intercepts that we unfortunately couldn't convert on. We managed to start firing in the second quarter. Abbie and Kayla once again solid all game in the goal ring making sure we were rewarding the defence. Hayley and Zoe worked hard through the middle with some great drives, feeding into the circle and intercepts. We had a lapse in momentum in the third but picked it back up for the last. A good win but plenty to work on. Planta on Treated Timber Award to Sam Brierley and second best to Hayley Greenfield. A Reserve: 50-29. Great game girls. We all went into the game a li le nervous not knowing what our opponents would line up like but we didn't let that get to us. We came out firing from the first whistle and never looked back. Our ght defence checking the en re way down the court made it difficult for our opponents to create play and we were able to capitalise with many touches and intercepts. Once again it was a team effort, making best players hard to pick but Tameka stood tall in defence all day and came away with the B&P Travel & Crusie Award and Jessie second best. Good luck to Pfitzy with your recovery. A Grade: 65-26. Well done everyone on a great game. Let's start with a special men on to our amazing youngsters Jorja and Chelsea. Jorja, for your first senior game you played with great poise, confidence and shot accurately. Chelsea backed it up again and had a cracker in WD, ge ng lots of intercepts and also looked a er the ball when you had possession - well done girls. Once again our full court defensive pressure was great and we were able to create lots of turnovers all over the court. Sarah had an absolute field day and read the ball extremely well all day earning her the O'Brien Electrical best player award. Thank you to everyone that has sat bench for A Grade so far this season, it's greatly appreciated by all of the team. We also look forward to ge ng Caitlin back on court a er our bye. Best players Sarah Edwards and Jorja Mitchell.
port macdonnell NETball club notes Junior 1: Another great effort ladies all over the court. I'm really happy to see everyone is having fun and s ll ge ng out there and giving it a go. We s ll have a lot to work on at training like pivo ng and throwing the ball as soon as they can and turning and blocking when the other teams are shoo ng, by the last quarter we had it down pat and we were giving the ball as soon as they are there we were pu ng our hands up when they were shoo ng which is exactly what I asked for. We are jelling as the li le group we are and we are bringing everyone into the game. The communica on on the court was much be er and we were there to back each other up. The girls on the bench it's great to hear that you are cheering your teammates on and off the court so way to go girls - top effort. Best players went to Torah Staples (Muffin Break) and Lucy Neale (Boost Juice). Junior 2: The girls should all be very proud of themselves. They all played an awesome game, and all tried their absolute best. Our drills and prac ce we do at trainings are really star ng to show on game day, which shows they are listening and taking it all in when we do the drills. I would have given an award to everyone but I gave best to Peyton who was at basically all contests, and was ge ng so many intercepts. Peyton is going to become one great netballer one day (Donut King). Second best went to Lily who showed great leadership skills in the ring, shot many goals in and is going to be a great shooter in the coming years (Dominos). Keep up the great work girls, it's awesome to see how much you have all improved. 13 & Under: What a great comeback from last game. With a few posi onal and combina on changes we adjusted very well. We are improving each week and are star ng to implement what we do at training. Awards went to Ma lda (Parade Fish Shop) for her hard work. Her blocking out and being on her toes was great! Let's keep the great work up! Jazzy -(Boost Juice) for always pu ng in 110% and her ability to read the play resul ng in many turnovers. Everyone played a great game and should be proud. 15 & Under: Lara Wilson (Parade Fish Shop) and Chloe Newton (KFC). Well done to Sophie Lewis for being able to step up to any posi on that she gets given always giving everything 100% effort. Congratula ons girls on a great win, as a team we are really star ng to se le into the season and gel a lot be er as a team. Everyone played excellent in the last three quarters of the game, now we just need to work on star ng out strong too! 17 & Under: Unfortunately, its seems to be a reoccurring thing. We have the win looking like to be in our favour and then we just lose it at the end. We met a lot of posi onal goals against Robe which I was extremely happy with. Well done to all of you for taking on board the overload of informa on given to you and actually

doing it in the game! Best was Arriella Smith and Sarah Lomas. B Reserve: We got off to a slow start and didn't cherish our turnovers. The game changed in the second quarter with Cristan and Maddy finding their groove and the mid court finding plenty of space to deliver the ball. Briodie ran hard all day and took control of the game. When we play with pa ence and control and use our space we make transi oning from defence to a ack smooth. Fee had another great game in defence ge ng plenty of touches. Best players Fiona Sco and Cristan Smith. B Grade: A close 1st and 2nd quarter with both Robe and Port Mac girls figh ng hard for every ball. Both teams created opportuni es with turnovers resul ng in goals. The first half finished with only a two-goal difference. Great 2nd half with Port Mac taking control and playing to their strengths. Kristy Sneath and Tash Sanderson provided strong defence in the 2nd half making Robe goalies work hard for every goal. Port Mac girls worked well together throughout the en re match with a strong and steady play resul ng in a win. Best players were Natasha Sanderson (Bay Pizzeria) and Jenni Taylor (The Body Shop). A Reserve: Good game girls, definitely went out strong and were able to hold our lead. Defence again worked over me to provide lots of turnovers which enabled our a ack to finish it off. We had a few changes which we hadn't tried before, but our team adapted well and kept pushing. S ll plenty to work on as a team and need to keep pushing to get more wins on the board. Best: Isabelle Sneath and Lucie Whitworth. A Grade: Started off strong, but unfortunately we let Robe run away in the end. We weren't quick enough to react to their passages of play and stop their a acking drive. We had some great passages of play, and when we reacted quickly to turnovers the ball flowed down the court, which gave us the scoring opportunity. As a team you need to learn to believe in yourselves and one another, have confidence in your passes and deliver the ball when our players are free, instead of hesita ng. Best: Lisa McGregor and Brooke Williams. The Port Mac Netball Club Commi ee would like to thank all our volunteers. Without your help and me we would not be able to run our club. All our coaches, umpires and parents, we thank you. Please show respect to our volunteers as they are giving up their own me to help our club be successful in years to come. Good luck to Layla McPherson and Bailee Lewis who are represen ng the Lower South East in SAPSASA. We would also like to thank all our sponsors! We really appreciate your support to our club. To our players and families please support our sponsors in the future!
Junior 2: Great game last week girls. You have been listening and pu ng into prac ce the things we are learning at training. We did a be er job at clearing and coming forward for the ball but we need to do it for four quarters. Claire did a great job in defence, taking many intercepts and delivering the ball to her teammates well. Zayley got some great deflects and threw some lovely passes. Lily did a great job of defending on some very tall opposi on. Alyssa showed great enthusiasm and did everything that I asked of her. Isabelle is doing a great job s cking on her player and not le ng them far out of sight. Zoe, Adele, Meeka and Isabelle all worked well in goals moving around the circle. Awards: Claire - The Bellum Hotel and Isabelle - Fasta Pasta. Junior 1: Last week was our best game yet and we all played a super strong compe ve game. The girls have all improved so much and it definitely showed. A big thank you to Zach for filling in for us, it was good to have you back. Another really good game girls, be proud. Awards: Lily Telford Family Award and Deborah - The Bellum Hotel. 13 & Under: Our game against Kalangadoo was always going to be one of our toughest for the round, and I can honestly say that our girls really gave it their all and I’m super proud of each of them. Although a huge score difference my girls did not give up and played it out right un l the last whistle and for that I commend them all. Ruby Carrigan is proving to be a strong defender and reads the play well in the goal circle picking off intercepts and staying ght in her defence. For this she received our best player award. Xiana Dowson, our li le red haired rocket, also shone in the second half playing out of her normal posi on in WD which also seemed to work well and she enjoyed and it showed. Xi received our encouragement award. Thank you girls for all doing your best and although it was a big deficit you were all smiling at the end. 15 & Under: We all knew it would be a tough game but with an excep onal first half we were quite strong and we kept with our opposi on with the score being very close. Unfortunately with injuries we were unable to maintain the level of play from the first half but I was very proud of you all for not giving up and
playing the game. All the way to the end, great team effort. Awards: Kaboom - Hayley and Bakers Delight - Zahli. 17 & Under: Very tough game girls but you didn't drop your head or give up figh ng. Taylah and Issy played extremely well in defence together, picking up numerous intercepts and touches and working well on their swaps. Through the mid court we had Marnee in WD, Kate in C and Milla at WA. Marnee managed to do some great hun ng and turning over the ball while Kate ran hard through the centre and delivered strong drives through a ack. Milla out on the wing had some great drives and excep onal feeding, faking where needed and delivering the ball to the shooters space, earning her junior player of the day! In the shoo ng circle we had Evie Sealey and Pheobe Beare who worked very well together to create great space for each other and finish with accuracy. Big thanks to Thalia Von Stanke who played a quarter in GS and Jasmin McKinnon in C, you both played brilliantly and were much needed. Awards: Isobel - Athletes Foot and Marnee - Hungry Jacks. B Reserve: Good effort girls. We know what we need to work on at training. Thank you so much for filling in from U17, Taylah Finnigan and Phoebe Beare. Best: Emily Devine and Taylah Finnigan. B Grade: Well done girls. It was never going to be an easy game but we did well. With a few changes needed, we adjusted well. We're slowly star ng to gel and become a great team. Awards: Billie - Birdie Blue, Mahli - Athletes Foot and Alisha Angelino - Bakers Delight. A Reserve: A slow start to the game had us working hard to try create turnovers. The last half of the first quarter and second quarter saw us string together some good passages of play. Changes at half me created a new dynamic and seeing more turnovers. Con nue to work hard at training and get ready for this week. Awards: Kaylah (F45) and Nat (Fasta Pasta). A Grade: Coming up against Kalangadoo is always a great challenge, but to be the best we have to play the best. I am proud of our team for keeping their heads high and working hard un l the final whistle. We adjusted to the changes of posi ons and played a great team all round.

NETball club notes The Mount Burr Netball Club is proud to have Igni on Fitness and Kimberly-Clark Australia (KCA) as major sponsors for the 2021 season. Junior 2: What a great first quarter and even if it took one to get going we got there and had some great goals scored. Well done on our passes down the court, we s ll need to work on coming forward and clearing into space. Everyone is improving each week and learning where to go so proud of you all. Once again some good intercepts down the court. Keep up your good work. Awards went to Wren and Mia (Mad Penguin). Junior 1: Last week's game really showed major improvement that we have been working on at training. The girls always go out there and give it their best shot and show a great a tude towards each other as well as their opponents with their cheering and support. There are s ll some things we have to work on like coming in front of our player which was shown a li le throughout the court, as well as making space. The girls played an amazing game and are going to be great role models for our club in the future. McDonald's award went to Stella who played an outstanding game through her leadership and accurate shoo ng. Fasta Pasta award went to Pagain who really showed on court what we have been prac cing at training and used her voice the whole game. Great job girls. 13 & Under: Bad luck girls, we need to listen to direc ons not just on the court but during the breaks. We had some great passages of play but couldn't put it together for 4 quarters. Let's get to training and work very hard and come out firing against Robe today. Thanks to Sara for umpiring and Leigh for scoring. Awards went to Callie (Mad Penguin) and Tilly (Denton’s Sportspower). 15 & Under: What a game girls. It was a good contested match, you all came out with intensity which was great to see as that has been our main focus over the past few weeks. Great defence across the whole court which created many turnovers. Great moving and shoo ng from our a acking end. We all came together as a team, and encouraged one another, which helped to li our confidence. Awards went to Abbey (Donut King) and Jasmine (Millicent Florist). Well done girls, you should be proud of your efforts. 17 & Under: We went into this game knowing it was going to be one of our toughest but wan ng to
NETball club notes focus on doing the basics right. At mes this was achieved but to Hatherleigh’s credit their defensive pressure across the court caused us to make many unforced errors. Despite this, we had some really great passages of play in all 4 quarters but struggled to keep this consistent. As a collec ve, we need to stay in the game and not drop our heads when things go wrong. Thanks to Lisa for umpiring and April for scoring. Awards went to Jemma (Sassi) and Maddie (Millicent Chemist). B Reserve: Bad luck girls, we came so close. The third quarter let us down, so we need to play consistency 4 strong quarters. We had some great passages of play all the way down the court and feeding into our goalies, who finished off well. We are training hard and combining well as a team and if we keep doing that we will see the hard work pay off on Saturdays. Thanks to Dawn for umpiring and Georgia for scoring. Awards went to Breanna (Mad Penguin) and Tess (Since Fi y Six). B Grade: A much be er game for the team in many ways. Our ball movement was much more direct and in patches well thought out. Our front cuts and posi oning looked much be er. We will con nue to work on our posi oning on the circle and posi oning looked much be er. We will con nue to work on our posi oning on the circle and reoffering. Awards went to Courtney Gregory (Café Melzar) and Larissa Wa s (Millicent Florist). Mount Burr 32 to Hatherleigh 52. A Reserve: Well done girls on the win. Our firing start to the game, hard work defensively and pa ence provided strong passages of play throughout to eventually allow us to hold on to the win. Awards went to Ella (Carapace) and Claudia (Fasta Pasta) for their con nuous efforts and presence on court. Let's keep this momentum going into the second round girls. A Grade: We got off to a strong start through our defensive pressure but as our own unforced errors started to creep in we struggled to build on any lead we did have. This was especially evident in the second half where we all had to work over me to try and compensate for our mistakes and fa gue. Plenty of things to take away from this game and build on in the weeks to come. Thanks to Lisa for umpiring, Heidi for scoring, and Tanya for being primary carer. Awards went to Ebony (The Beauty Studio) and Heidi (Café Melzar).
Junior 2: What a game girls! They're all taking on board what they are learning at training and it was really good to see. A few really fantas c passages of play, with great passing all the way down the court. All se ling into posi ons much be er with only playing 2 posi ons throughout the game. Incen ve (canteen voucher) went to Isabel Hall for a cracker game in goals. She really helped feed the ball well into the circle. Well done to all girls. Junior 1: We had great weather for netball which was just great. Overall, you all played an awesome game and worked really well together. One thing we need to work on is ge ng in front, this will help the flow of the game down court. Some mes it's easier to lob the ball up but this won't work with tall opponents. We had 2 away so you were all lucky enough to play a whole game which was exci ng YAY! Well done Siarrah on being captain, your confidence is slowly growing. Thank you to my li le buddy Saskia who did a great job as team manager. I could've given the incen ve to all of you for your hard work. Incen ve (Canteen): Tess for giving 100% in each posi on. You're passes we're spot on and you intercepted many balls down court. Chocolate Award: Mackenzie, you weren't feeling well but managed to have a great game, your comments in the breaks are always entertaining. 13 & Under: Robe 21 Pt Mac 41. Three very good quarters where we played great netball, and were compe ve the whole me. It was just one quarter that let us down, not ge ng in front and not thinking about where we pass the ball. We went down by 10 goals that quarter, it just shows we need to think about where we run, where we pass and then re-offer. When we spoke about chasing balls and encouragement to your teammates... it was so great to see that you listened and applied it to your game. Remembering that you're a team, celebrate goals and turnovers, will only help your game, so let's see more as the weeks go on. Demi was best player (Steve's Place) as she created great play for the team, driving and working hard all game. Millie played a strong and confident game at GS which earned her the incen ve (The Project). 15 & Under: Robe 19 Pt Mac 47. We were off and running in the first quarter and up by the break, but the opposi on brought on the big guns in the 2nd seeing us struggle a bit. The 3rd was much the same so in the last we dragged Georgie and Tilly off and the rest of the team tried out posi ons generally not always played. A bit of fun. Our defensive pressure is s ll good. Now we need to work on our flat feet and start chasing our players a bit more and leading in a dynamic way to get be er results. At least we have plans. Best player (The Union) went to Georgie who worked hard in and down the court, the incen ve (The Project) going to Emily who adapted to many changes I threw at her. The U15 are a good bunch. 17 & Under: Robe 36 Pt Mac 34. Woo! Ba le of the bays! What a game! You kept us on our toes all game but fought hard to come away with a well deserved win. Maddie and Ella worked relessly in goals to adjust their game and come forward. Sienna had guts and a acked strongly to the ball. Maisie kicked off the game in C but brought the pressure and posi ve talk in GD and combined well with sister Lexy. Lexy adjusted her footwork and really took on board what Alison talked about at training, although Lex didn't have height on her side, she sure did give her the GS a run for her money! Billie was a li le flustered in GD but had great drive down the court in C crea ng a lot of play. Amalie was a trooper having a strong first quarter in WD and then taking one for the team with having bench me. This decision was a hard one to make with so many girls the bench is unavoidable but her talk on the bench was unbelievable and really pumped the girls up - thank you Amalie for your
maturity and understanding, great team work! Miss Adele, where has that been? You had a boomer and really showed us all that you want to be on that court! Your arms just get to everything and your defensive pressure was fantas c earning yourself the incen ve (The Pastry Place) for the game. Maddie was awarded best player (Burger & Co) for a strong a acking game in GS and rising above the hard defence. We are short for the Mt Burr game which will make it hard but let's hold our heads high and welcome our fills in with lots of talk and direc on on the court. B Reserve: Robe 36 Pt Mac 54. We had a boomer of a first half playing our slow determined level headed game keeping within reach of the bay side. But alas, even with one set of fresh legs, the rest of us were a wee bit spent which we a ributed to the shining sun and not so much our fitness hehe. All was good as we tackled the last and found our feet again. A slight reroll of an ankle saw U17 Amalie Turner debut in GK for her first senior game (woohoo) - she had some tough compe on and held herself admirably and earnt herself an incen ve (Loaves & Fishes). The other incen ve (Original Skin Co) held over from the previous week was awarded to junior Ella Mackey who thank God took on the centre job (how lucky as a club that we can draw on this young talent) and by jingo by crikey, coach Lonny won the calcu a (The Cally)! Miracles s ll happen. Again, we were well supported by the Svic sisters on the sidelines and our mascot in his teddy suit thanks girls - we are a er all Team Roosters... B Grade: Robe 41 Pt Mac 52. We knew it was going to be a tough close game, we played a very good first half, staying even with Port Mac. Our second half we seemed to run out of energy a bit and dropped off the pace slightly. Our defensive pressure throughout the game was p top! We need to con nue to work on making strong leads and holding our space. We are con nuing to improve as a team as the season progresses, so keep up the good work girls. Calcu a (The Project) went to Kahlia in GK and incen ve (Lush Flowers) went to Sophie K in GD who defended well all game. A Reserve: Robe 37 Pt Mac 53. Bit of a slow start in the first quarter going down by about 8, we moved into our old habits of throwing without thinking, not passing into the space and lacking some intensity. The girls then managed to get themselves out of this li le rut for the final 3 quarters playing a great hard working, team game and managing to stay reasonably even for the remainder of the game! Credit to you all for being able to find this. A massive congrats to Pom on her big 50 games - you played an absolute ripper and like always put your all in and providing a great leadership role to all the girls! Shelby and Belle in the last half really stepped it up, providing strong guidance to their feeders as to where they wanted the ball - great job girls, your best game yet together! Keelin played nice and consistently again, winning herself the Calcu a (Coastal Club). Jade provided a consistent and ever reliable game through the mid court se ling into the team very well which earned her incen ve (Me & Miss Jones)! A Grade: Robe 51 Pt Mac 28. Another great team game saw us come home with the win against Pt Mac. I'm so proud of the girls, working together as a team and backing each other up has been a focus, which is making us li and play a solid 4 quarters. Tori came home with the Calcu a (Mahalia Coffee), with accurate shoo ng and deflec ng lots of loose balls. It was hard to pick an incen ve (Hook & Harvest), with each player working hard all game, however Sammy really stepped up and put lots of pressure on her WA, ge ng her hands to lots of balls and came home with the award. Great game girls, lets keep the momentum going.

NETball club notes Junior 2: Perfect day for netball last week at Nangwarry. These 7 girls amaze me every week and this week I was super proud. Pass and cut we worked on at training and they nailed it. They are all developing amazingly. Our defence is brilliant and our offence is a work in progress. Awards went to Daisy (Maccas) who absolutely killed it at WD and was an op on every me and to Stella (Wa le Range Trading) who no ma er what posi on she was in she passed and cut every single me. Last week I was so proud, I wish I had 7 awards to give out! Well done li le monkeys! Junior 1: Well done to all the J1 girls on their efforts against Nangwarry. It was fantas c to see you leading to the space in the mid court and passing the ball quickly. Defence was consistently strong, with us pulling in lots of rebounds and ge ng many hands to the ball. I was really proud of the team’s sportsmanship. Well done girls! Encouragement award went to Tameka Long, great job. 13 & Under: Another tough game for the girls against Nangwarry. However, the score didn't reflect the amount of effort you all put in. We need to remember to play our own game and focus on our posi on. Our a acking is going great and we are moving well to get the ball, we just need to work hard on making sure our passes are always strong and to someone who is in front. We will be working on our defence this coming week, to s ck on our player and put strong pressure on the ball. Great job also girls adap ng to the changes in the last quarter! Leilani Bentley and Isobel O'Brien were awarded Hungry Jacks awards. 15 & Under: Even though we didn't get the win, there were some really great things that happened on court. Kaitlyn and Kailah moved well in a ack and posi oned themselves on the ring well. Eb and Demi moved swi ly in goals with some great shoo ng accuracy seen. Defence Lailah, Holly, Keelie and Tameisha worked hard and kept their defence ght crea ng turnovers. We know where our mistakes were and it is something we will work on at training. Keep going girls, I am seeing some great improvement from the start of the season. Shanks Engineering Award: Kailah Gledhill, KMart Award: Lailah Riley. 17 & Under: A er a slow start, it was a be er second quarter. We need to stop making things too hard for ourselves and just focus on playing our game. Well done to Charlo e and Ella who were put into new posi ons and s ll gave it your all. Tayla, Charlo e and Hayley worked hard in defence crea ng lots of turnover opportuni es while Ella and Madi crea ng lots of drive down the court into a ack. Keelie and Jade worked hard all game conver ng our turnovers into goals. We need to remember to se le in our a ack line and not force it into our goalies, wai ng for the right opportunity. The KFC award went to Hayley for giving it her all, chasing all the loose balls and ge ng hands to the ball. Madi
NETball club notes received the Shanks Engineering award for her strong drive down the court and controlling the play. Well done girls, let's come out and get another win! B Reserve: The girls came out firing and played hard from the first whistle. It was good to finally see us slow down and steady the play across the court. Some great passages of play and everyone working hard together saw us come away with the win. Great to see some more awareness on the court and everyone star ng to really work together as a team. Best players went to Tarrah Taylor who stepped out of her comfort zone and played a great game at GA and Lucy Jackson who has been improving week a er week and was amazing feeding into the ring. Great work girls! B Grade: We came out firing and apart from a patch in the 3rd quarter we con nued that way for the whole game. The defence of Leah, Amy and Zan made it tough for the Nangwarry a ackers causing many turnovers which were accurately converted by Bec and Nic who were fantas c in goals and are working really well together. Bec held beau fully being a strong target for Kris e and Sally to pass to. Half me we made some changes which seemed to unse le us for a while but we dug deep, worked hard and got our groove back. Kath and Danni came into the game and got straight into it causing turnovers and moving the ball well down the court. Best players were Rozanna who took home the Ladies Commi ee voucher and Sally Peters. A Reserve: A much be er game last week girls! Throughout the last few weeks it was obvious we needed to make a change and really get back to finding a way to play our game. I thought each and every one of you put in and really contributed me, input, thought and effort into working together to build on our structure and our end goal. It just goes to show when we switch on and implement the game we want to play, the things that we can do. It was so nice to watch you all play a much more structured game and not devia ng too much from the ini al plan. Great work ladies! Very tough to pick best players as you all played so well as a team, certainly how it should be all the me! Love your work! Let's build on this now and work towards next week! Best players: Estella Serle and Georgia Clarke. A Grade: Great job girls. It's so great to see us all con nuing to play the way we have been training. Everyone works hard at training and it really showed last week. We set our goals and we are achieving them so great work. Last week we saw Madi come on and slot into WA and played some strong netball. A big congrats to Keelie who played her first A Grade game. We are loving the youth that is coming through our senior grades and the effort you all put in at trainings. A big week ahead but I know everyone will keep working hard. The Fasta Pasta award went to Casey Walker and also Alex Lucas.
Junior 2: We were well matched last week against Mt Burr, and started reluctantly. We began to work ourselves into the game with strong leads and mee ng the ball. Our focus for the day was intercep ng and Paige took some great balls in the air with two hands. Kaia was also ge ng her hands to a lot of ball in defence and was keeping her eyes up to read the play. Kirby was speedy in the centre court and was constantly reoffering and backing up. Maggie worked pa ently in the goal circle, wai ng for opportuni es to lead out and cut in. Violet came on at half me and was straight into the ac on, using her strong hands to intercept cleanly. Mollie was determined in goal a ack, running down into space and then finishing off beau fully with the goal. Hazel had a tussle with her opponent all game, but her persistence with front cu ng paid off as she controlled the ball down the court. Ella con nues to improve with each game she plays, and chased up any loose balls that came her way while con nuing to lead into space in a ack. Ladies commi ee award went to Hazel and Paige received the Maccas award. Junior 1: Another great game li le Eagles. You all played so well. All your hard work is paying off and you are star ng to gel really well as a team. It was great to see again last week your court spacing and dodging to lead for the ball. We had great defensive pressure and lots of turnovers from Olivia, Livvi and Scarle . Alirah, Luca, Sienna and Gracie combined really well in the second half in the a ack line, con nuing to work hard, they kept moving to find space, get in front and get the ball back when Mt Burr got a turnover. The fight and want for the ball was apparent and you are all growing in to confident and strong netballers. Keep up the good work. Well done to Scarle for great reading of the ball and play and finding space to be an op on as well as her talking and encouragement earning her the Ladies Commi ee Award. Well done to Luca for great movement in the circle and a ack line, not giving up with the hard defence she had on her and turning the ball over me and me again. Thank you to Mel for scoring, Zoë for primary carer and to Hazel and Paige si ng on the bench for us. 13 & Under: A very even and compe ve game against Mount Burr saw us run out winners 37-18. While we made a lot of skill errors and turned the ball over too o en our endeavour couldn't be ques oned with all players working hard over the four quarters. Defensive efforts and chasing down loose balls again gave our a ack end many opportuni es. Working on our passing and decision making will be a focus at training this week. A great four quarter effort by Kalli was finished off with accurate shoo ng. Well done! 15 & Under: We had some great passages of play but it needs to be a consistent effort for 15mins each me we take the court. We need to stay focused and be watching the ball at all mes and ready to chase up any loose balls. Our opposi on had a lot more fight and drive to the ball which we need to work on. Bella worked very hard in the goal circle and then did a fantas c job moving to the other end crea ng lots of turnovers at GK. Deni delivered some beau ful passes into the goalies. Niah worked hard to come front and did a lot of great moving in the goal circle winning the Ducky’s award and Kiah worked hard on a much taller opponent, she won the Hatherleigh Ladies Commi ee award.
17 & Under: What a great game of netball girls! We started off strong from the first centre pass, really u lising our speed and fitness down the court. Dakota and Lace worked cohesively once again in the goal circle, conver ng extremely accurately. Our mid-court of Jasmyne, Demi and Laura worked relessly to run the ball up and down the court through great passages of play and crea ng countless turnovers due to ght defensive pressure. Elly and Emma applied extremely ght defence, grasping every loose ball and rebound they could get their hands to. An injury saw Tori Haines come on in WD, who really stood out on court, slo ng in beau fully to the flow of the game while also driving the ball down hard with numerous turnovers. Every single one of the girls played their individual role and worked extremely well together which made us come away with the win. Special thank you to Tori, Niah and Indi for si ng bench. Best players: Jasmyne Bellinger (Gino's Pizza) and Lacey Haines (Igni on Fitness). B Grade: A great first half with Maddie and Ellie combining beau fully in goals. Lacey was strong and had great drive and re-offering down the court at C. Meg posi oned and fed well to our goalies. Ella at WD once again got those long arms to balls and Georgia and Jess in defence played ght and had plenty of good strong rebounds. Half me Nat came into C and Leila into the defence end with Meg and Georgia having a rest. The quarter was scrappy and we went way too fast and that brought too many errors into our game. Three quarter me Georgia came onto WD and Meg back into WA. Georgia played a great defensive quarter intercep ng and backing up down the court. We got a li le red in our a ack line towards the end of the game and this saw us with a lower score for the quarter. With some byes coming up we need to be doing some extra running. Tant is up next and it's a game that's going to be tough again, but playing at our best will get us the win. A Reserve: We came into the game knowing it was going to be a close one. Paris and Abby were working together well in the goal circle, and finding each other for the close shot. Helen and Melissa working hard down the mid court, ensuring they were driving and crea ng space where required. The first quarter was disappoin ng, going down by 8, it was always going to be a ba le from there. With Lucy Corman coming up against her old team, she was determined and consistent throughout the game. Defensive end consisted of Lucy Chant, Demi and Marnie increasing pressure for a turnover. It wasn't a pre y game, too many turnovers and me to get back to the basics. Lucy Corman le it all on the court walking away with the chemist award and Paris Schroeder finding her groove in goals being awarded the Somerset award. A Grade: We took a while to se le into our work, which saw us playing catch up netball for the first half, once again defensively we were strong and created plenty of turnovers but didn't treasure possession. Our second half was much be er conver ng a lot more and controlling play. Sarah B had a great game in D and Lacey had a controlled 4 quarters. It was good to see no-one panic under pressure and put the score on the board when it counted. Somerset award: Lacey, HSR award: Sarah B, Igni on Fitness award: Sarah F.
ROUND 8 A GRADE NETBALL REVIEW KONGORONG v KALANGADOO Kalangadoo proved their dominance against Kongorong taking out a 71-goal victory over Kongorong. Kalangadoo capitalised on every scoring opportunity with their on the ball presence providing them with any loose ball. Kongorong's mid court were out played by the strength of Kalangadoo's Jane Auld, Mikaila Pi and led by Jayde Peacock. The first quarter saw Kalangadoo take a convincing lead with precision feeding by Jayde Peacock into goalies Melissa Russell and Abbey Duncan taking a 16-goal lead. Kongorong made changes at quarter me bringing Georgia Seidel on to centre and moving Sarah Beare to WD. Early in the quarter Seidel landed hard with a knee injury moving Sam Fox into centre and Georgia Bald back on to WA. Kongorong took me to se le allowing Kalangadoo to extend their lead to 39 at half me. Both teams made changes at half me with Kalangadoo swapping their defences and Kongorong trying some different combina ons. Unable to stop Melissa Russell's dominance in GS, Kalangadoo extended their lead to 56 at the final break. In the final term Kalangadoo introduced junior Kori Collins to goals with Abbey Duncan and a er an ankle injury to Chloe Pra , junior Sophie Wrightson came on to WA. Abbey Duncan stepped up having her highest scoring quarter for the game with 14 goals. Final score Kongorong 22 def by Kalangadoo 93. Best players - Kongorong: Riley Buckingham and Emalee Stokker; Kalangadoo: Jane Auld and Chloe Pra . ROBE v PORT MACDONNELL Robe v Port Mac was set to be a close game with teams si ng 6th and 7th on the ladder. Robe came out strong with some accurate shoo ng from Sarah Laurie and Tori Gluyas, being in front by 7 goals at quarter me. A er some changes at quarter me to Port Mac's defence and mid court, Port Mac's defenders Lisa McGregor and Belinda O'Dine put the pressure on Robe's a ack line with a more physical quarter. Port Mac's goalies Keyarnah Smith and Brooke Williams were shoo ng accurately, with Williams shoo ng at 100% for the quarter. Which saw a more even quarter, with Robe increasing their lead by 3 at half me. Robe came back out firing in the third quarter with Georgia Perkins and Alannah Campbell pu ng on lots of pressure on Ports Mac's goalies. Their determina on and rebounding for the quarter was excep onal. Once again Robe's
goalies shot well, shoo ng 15 for the quarter. Robe being up by 18 at three quarter me. The last quarter Robe kept building on their lead by working together as a team and backing each other up, being up by 23 at the final whistle, with the score being 51 to 28. Robe's best players were Tori Gluyas and Sammy Telfer, Port Mac's best were Lisa McGregor and Brooke Williams. NANGWARRY v TANTANOOLA Game started off at a fast pace with both teams moving well for their teams. Tant se led quickly and Nangwarry struggled a li le with the new combina on to start with. Emma Gould was the focal point in Tantanoola goals with Casey Walker feeding her with precision. Nangwarry started to work be er in the last 5 minutes of quarter Cassie Dinnison feeding her goalers well. Nangwarry 8 Tant 23. Tant made a change and brought youngster Maddie Kelly to WA, C. Walker off. Alex Lucas and Dinnison were having a good tussle both working hard for their teams. Kristy Dolan and Ange Pra were star ng to move around well and create space for their feeders. Kelly came into the game and along with Vic Lucas moved the ball around to Gould and Jamie Walker who stepped up the pace this quarter making Nangwarry defenders have to work hard for any balls or rebounds. Ebony Lawson was running hard at centre for Nangwarry bringing ball from defence well and posi oning well on the ring. Nangwarry 15 Tant 38 at the main. Nangwarry moved Dinnison into the middle, Lawson to WA. Tant moved A. Lucas to centre, C. Walker to WD. Tant s ll kept the momentum driving well out of defence with any turnovers. Kate Bromley and Taylor Rowe really hassled Nangwarry goalers making them earn every ball. Lawson and Dinnison con nued to be pa ent and move the ball to each other un l there was an opening. A. Lucas ran hard through the middle combining well with Kelly and once again Gould being the focal point and posi oning well. Hayley Vanderhorst was working over me really hassling Gould wherever she could. Carly Ploenges also stepped up this quarter minimising J. Walker’s influence this quarter. Nangwarry 22 Tant 56. Last quarter saw Dinnison back to WA, Lawson centre for Nangwarry. Tant midcourt changed back to star ng line up and also brought on youngster Keelie Lindner to GA. Tant’s change unse led their goal end for a while and Ploenges really made the most of it, taking intercepts and driving hard out of defence for her team along with Jemma Parsons. Nangwarry showed more pa ence again and
were finding their goalers with moving ball around. Rowe got some vital turnovers for her team and con nued to work well with Bromley making Nangwarry’s goalers work hard for every ball. C. Walker moved and fed Gould con nuously well. Nangwarry suffered an injury in Dolan and that put Dinnison to GS and brought Bri Dycer on. Dycer moved well when she came on, but Nangwarry unse led for a minute started to find their goalies again. Both Lucas girls con nued to run hard and at a fast pace for their team driving well. Tant just too strong. Final score Nangwarry 32 def by Tantanoola 74. Best - Nangwarry: Ploenges and Dolan, Tantanoola: C. Walker and A. Lucas. HATHERLEIGH v MOUNT BURR In what was pegged as the match of the round Hatherleigh took on Mount Burr on their home court, with the Burr’s top 4 posi on on the line a ght tussle was expected and this match delivered a strongly contested game for the full four quarters. Hatherleigh won the toss and took the first centre pass which was quickly turned over in defence by Mount Burr. Mount Burr jumped out to an early 4-0 lead. Layla Baker took the C bib in her first A Grade game this season and had to contend against a tough Sarah Faulkner. Both sides started to miss shots midway through the quarter, with both defensive ends picking off any loose balls, with neither team being able to se le. Mount Burr held a 2 goal lead at the break. Hatherleigh moved Sarah Broadhead back to GK and Maddie Redman to GD, Mount Burr once again turned over Hatherleigh's first centre pass, extending their lead to 3. Hatherleigh se led and took the lead by 1. Ebony Clark's strong rebounding helped her side to wrestle the lead back from Hatherleigh, pushing out to hold a four goal lead at half me. At the break Mount Burr brought Simone Westerman on at WA and Laura Schultz moved to C replacing Baker. Hatherleigh capitalised on loose passing by Mount Burr and pushed out to a two goal lead. Hatherleigh's goalies Maddie Pulmer and Lacey Haines started to se le in the circle, despite strong defence by Heidi Clark and Madi Hagge . Hatherleigh went in to the last with a one goal lead. It was a high scoring last quarter with accurate shoo ng by both sides. It was Hatherleigh’s defensive pressure, causing unforced errors in the mid court, which saw them take the game by 3. Final score Hatherleigh 48 def Mount Burr 43.
