limestone coast regional carnival awards
The MSEJFL were once again excited to be a part of the Limestone Coast Regional Carnival which was held in Bordertown against rivals in WBFL & KNTFL. It’s always a highlight of the calendar and it allows our brightest and upcoming talent to pool together and play representa ve football but also create friendships along the way that they will look back in later years fondly.
2023 saw MSE retain both coaches from 2022 and this provided the players with some addi onal experience with both coaches having now played and coached at this level and are passionate about seeing our league compete and be compe ve at the highest level.
The U15’s were led by Chris Mules who’s record in all levels of football speak for itself and was very closely assisted by Brad Auld who has played at the highest-level mul ple mes. Coaches had a task this year in selec ng their final squad and looked to be one of the more even and stronger squads in recent years and we were excited to see what the carnival would bring.
Game 1 saw us up against a KNT ou it that we looked evenly matched with across the ground. From the outset the boys looked very se led and managed to get going quickly with some slick ball movement and u lised the long open ground to advantage. The backline held strong in the first half repelling the ball constantly allowing our midfielders to go to work. This saw us with a narrow 3 point lead at the half. The second half we looked to go back into our shell somewhat and loose the a acking brand from the 1st half yet we remained in the game and had several opportuni es to steal it late but in the end went down by 10 points. Best players game 1 – Lachy Brierley, Kane Gilbert, Charlie Bevan, Ryan Lucas, Nate Von Stanke-Dowie & Kai Gilmore.
Game 2 up against a very slick WB ou it that jumped us early in the first half but to our boy’s credit managed a goal in the 1st half which seem to spark them a li le. The second half we were a lot more compe ve, registering a couple of goals ourselves and holding WB to only a few majors with the final score 11-6 to 3-1. Best players game 2,
Congratula ons to Lachy Brierley MSE Player of the Carnival and to Lachy, Charlie, Nate, Casey & Kane in making the Team of the Carnival.
U17’s saw Reece Duncan at the helm for the 3rd year running and this year was assisted by very well creden aled senior colts coach in Jed Telfer. The squad was li ered with talented players with majority having played senior footy on a regular basis and a select few compe ng in Glenelg teams.
Game 1 we were up against a very much larger side across the ground in KNT. They jumped out of the blocks early in the first half meaning our midfield and defenders had to work hard for the 22mins but there were some passages of play where we managed to control the ball and pepper the goals but could only manage a couple of behinds for the half. The second half we seem to get our running game going, li in intensity and used the long ground to our advantage while also holding KNT back and this saw us outscore them in the second half and build confidence going into the second game with the final scores 8-2 to 3-7. Best players Cade Kelly, Kallan Bevan, Ellis Cushion, Connor Gen le & Braydn Hateley
Game 2 up against WB was a very even contest for the first half as both sides ba led hard and were very evenly matched over the ground. This made for some quality footy and good passages of play as we went into the half me break only 3 points down. The second half was a repeat of the first as no team wanted to give an inch and we had more than our share of the ball all over the ground but could only manage the 1 gaol to WB 2 to go down in a very ght contest by 10 points. Best players game 2 – Kallan Bevan, Connor Gen le, Cade Kelly, Ellis Cushion, Zeb Chant & Braydn Hateley
Congratula ons to Kallan Bevan who was awarded the U17 Player of the Carnival Award, MSE Player of the Carnival and to Kallan, Cade, Connor, Ellis, Brayden & Flynn Peel in making the team of the carnival.
Overall
at the carnival in both grades and we should be buoyed looking to the future as these young footballers con nue to keep plying their cra and developing into our next crop of senior footballers.
Carnivals like these wouldn’t be possible without countless volunteers like our trainers in Erica Hurley & Sam Benne along with team managers, mekeepers, goal umpires and those who run water, so a big thank you to each and everyone of you.
Special thanks to our Interleague Sponsors in First Super & Belgravia Apparel and to Addie at The Rocks Shop for providing drinks to all players across the three leagues. Leading up to the carnival both Mt Burr and Glencoe allowed us to u lise their facili es and this is greatly appreciated.
Of course, the game doesn’t happen without umpires and as with all carnivals we had Umpires from across the three leagues pu ng their hands up to officiate over the weekend.
A big shout out to the parents and families who have supported the players in ge ng them to trainings and to Bordertown, along with our 9 clubs in suppor ng players to represent our league.
A personal thank you to Macca, Cloughy, Tug and Naomi as members of the Junior Execu ve along with the Senior Exec as it makes life a lot easier having many hands to share the load to make everything happen behind the scenes especially on a day like it was Saturday with so much to organise.
To all the Mid South Eastern Football league players, thank you for pu ng your hand up and the commitment in represen ng not only the league but club & family and we hope you enjoyed the challenge of playing representa ve football.
I would like to wish players all the best for the remainder of the season and hope that they will look back at their me playing representa ve football fondly and con nue to work on their footy cra .

football club notes seniors
A Grade: Even though we didn't get the win last week, it's probably the best four quarters we've played all year. It was a cracking day and the footy was just as good. Kalangadoo got the jump kicking the 1st goal of the game, but we hit back ourselves to level up. This was the story for 1st half, with the lead not pushing out past 3 goals but we couldn't quite hit the lead ourselves. We let it slip a li le in the 3rd as we kicked 4 goals but the Doo managed 6 to lead by 4 goals at ¾ me. In the last, they kicked the 1st to extend the lead to 5 goals, but we rallied and bit by bit clawed our way back to within 8 points deep into the term. Unfortunately, me ran out, and 8 points was the final margin. Best players was again Jed Telfer and Jase Bateman in the middle, Mikey Telford down back, Jake Wight on the wing and Hutchy up forward for his hang me.

B Grade: We made the trip over to Kalangadoo on Saturday for the grand final rematch, the deck was in a fair bit be er condi on than last me we played there. Our goal kicking yips followed us over there, frustra ng to watch as a coach. But we played excellent football, moving the football well and playing the brand we like to play. I s ll think our best football is yet to come. Brad Wight had an outstanding game again all over the ground. Joe Rayson final got a full game in under his belt to take out second. Reidy was back to his best. Jack Sully played well up forward and brought plenty of energy around the ground. Big Alshy rounded out the best taking several big marks around the ground when we needed him.
Senior Colts: The boys had a great game on the weekend, coming away victors by 60 points. It was great to see all the boys try their hardest when playing for the opposi on as well. The highlight of the game came with
10 seconds to go when Zack Ballantyne kicked his first goal in football, a moment we have been eagerly wai ng for. Our best player for the day was Aus n Fuller who has hit a purple patch of form. Jordan Atkinson had another great day intercep ng many possessions. Brayden Chambers was very clean with ball in hand, while Riley Prouse and Ethan Marshall were great on the day also. We will enjoy a week off and then take on the bay in an important game for our side.
Junior Colts: Last week we took on Kalangadoo, the team were off to a good start. Young Will Dower con nued his great form and started the game well kicking 3 goals in the first quarter taken home best on for the day, Coaden Taylor had any good s nt up forward kicking 5 straight, 3rd best was Riley Haines also had a great game kicking with a few goals assist and kicking 2 goals himself. Thomas Atkinson was 4th best, his in and under efforts was vital for the team, 5th best went to Billy Bowering gave 100% at every contest he was in, very clean with the skills. Overall very pleased with how the team played across all 4 quarters, players ge ng a go in all different posi ons and giving it a good crack.
Under 11: This week we played at Kalangadoo and we were treated to superb football weather. The boys and girls were kicking to advantage with plenty of marks which allowed the ball to move well into the forward line. This week we played some of the best footy all year. Some great team footy sharing the footy around and ge ng everyone a kick. It was incredibly hard to pick best players today. Sam, Arabella, Arlan, Thomas and Sylvester all played good team footy this week.

Mini Colts: A great game against Kalangadoo, the boys played 4 solid quarters coming away with another win. Best players were Brock Lewis, Zach Howard, Lincoln Jones, Aus n Hopgood and Kade Grosvenor. This weeks vouchers were donated by Kaboom! Goal Kickers were Brock Lewis, Charlie Lasle , Max Pitson, Leni O'Dine and Jagger Macdonald.
Junior Colts: Kalangadoo was our latest test and they come out firing kicking with the wind in the first quarter. It took us a few minutes to get going and we started to use the ball well and managed to get a small lead going into the quarter me break. From there we played some really strong free flowing football to come away with another good win. Award winners this week were Harry Kennion who’s giving us plenty of first ball out of the ruck. TJ Howard with his classy ball skills and improvement. Maison Byrne for taking every opportunity and making really good decisions when he gets the ball. Naite Fox using the ball brilliantly by foot, rarely missing targets. Kade Gilmore who con nually provides pressure and winning contested ball for a small player. Best Players this week were Harry Carroll, Brody Pra , Zane Lewis, Je Lewis, Naite Fox and Blake Lasle . Good luck this week against the Eagles!

Senior Colts: The boys bounced back well this week with a solid win, 101 to 29. Our boys can hold their heads high for the way they played within the spirit of the game, having to endure some unsavoury, unaccountable behaviour from some opposi on players throughout the game which is really sad to see in junior football. 11 of our boys played for the opposi on and gave it their all, even kicking goals for them, so well done to our boys. Without these boys pu ng their hands up to play for other teams, no-one would be playing at all, so thank-you boys. In a good team effort best players sponsored by the Lynch family were Riley Morgan who lead from the front all day, Archie New who con nues his great form, Bradley Neale who played well for both teams, Pa rick Robinson who also played well for both teams, Jack Kain has had a great year playing his role down back and doing the team first stuff, Keilghe O'Flaherty has a break out game which was fabulous to see. Now we enjoy a few weeks off and get ready for our next challenge against Hatherleigh.
B Grade: With a nip in the air, Winter has arrived early this year and while the sky was grey most of the day, it hardly rained at all, just enough to make the playing condi ons greasy. Besides, who needs a windsock to know how hard the wind is blowing when the goalposts are all wobbling violently with the breeze and the ball heads to the boundary from directly in front! It was a bloody and costly affair Saturday against the 'Doo. Not even 10 mins into the 1st quarter all the 8's collided like a bowling ball hi ng ten pins! Ryan Von Stanke (8), Nathan Brotherton (88) and a K'Doo player, all with eyes on the ball, crashed hard into each other with Nathan B coming off the worst, leaving the game with a possible concussion and a bloody lip. Ryan fared be er and was able to keep going throughout the match but it was an early indicator of some white line fever amongst quite a few players from both sides, the packs becoming more aggressive as the game con nued. Mere minutes later, in a run out from the forward posi on, Ducky O'Dine and Roz collided midair going for the ball and to everyone's dismay Ducky broke his ankle as he hit the turf. The quarter was called early and thank goodness for the green whistle... but I think we can safely say that Ducky's footy career has been put to sleep! Despite the loss of one of our most steadying leaders the boys li ed in the 2nd quarter kicking with the wind to manage a 15 point lead but as
always the 3rd let us down. K'Doo kicked 7 unanswered goals to seal our fate. Undisciplined acts led to free's that shouldn't have happened and the fever set in. Debut player, Ben Stratman, kicked a goal and managed to get 'up close and personal' to most of the K'doo team with strong a acking play. Best in Show, Ma 'Moscow' Roscow, kept absolute control of the ball from whatever posi on he was tasked with, not only kicking goals (2) but keeping us on point as the boys run off the leash. Nathan Tilley got in amongst the carnage coming off with a bloody and torn up lip, copping a black eye to boot, while digging the ball out of the packs. Lone 'Wolfman', Jack Cawthorne, roved the ground with unrelen ng pace while Jess Feast's bulldog tenacity worried the Magpies' forwards constantly, all 3 earning themselves a place amongst the fields best. Ma 'Mortal' Stark con nued with whippet like form and fitness throughout the game taking many handy marks as we struggled to gain control of the 3rd quarter and Isaac Na rass, with terrier like tendency, put his body on the line me and me again even nipping at the heels of that dust up that occurred during the final minutes of the game. Thankfully we have a 2 week break now to recover and get back to some solid discipline and training, as for our finals hopes, we don't need a repeat performance of ..”Who let the dog's out!” Go Demons! (You Hellhounds).
A Grade: What an epic match! With the Demon's '98 Premiership side watching on the Bay boys delivered an outstanding game of footy. As our first ever indigenous round, it was with great solemnity that the match was opened. Both sides formed a semi-circle as Mondo Stanton and Tim Brennan welcomed everyone to Boandik country with the tradi onal smoke ceremony. Elsie Newton did the coin toss and her son Tarquie Newton helped design our indigenous jumper which Tim Sullivan presented to the Kalangadoo captain as a sign of good faith and treaty. A er that all bets were off and the game held all the magic of a grand-final. The enormity of the day rang true as it was these two clubs who faced off for the '98 premiership. Could history be repeated! In an incredibly hard game with the Bays only just keeping up with a determined K'doo side during the first half the ba le lines were drawn and what a banquet of play for the spectators. JT was solid in the forward lines kicking goal a er goal while Lockie Tilley switched off the bench to great effect wherever he was placed, as did our senior colts Kai Gilmore and Luke Richardson. Wil Macdonald as always steadied the centre while the Sullivans Tim and Tom took care of the CHF line and flanks. Wade “Dos” Chant was magnificent in the back line stopping nearly everything in its path and provided much of the push out of the K'doo forward line earning him a well-deserved B.O G. Blake Lynch, Mark Smith and Ned Wilke lent much strength to the CHB and flank posi on winning the ball despite overwhelming odds at mes. Aaron Harding, a er having a great turn in the reserves, provided ready support and plenty of pressure through the centre drives, leaving playing coach Josh Woodall to furnish the ball forward with style. It was prac cally goal for goal and point for point in the last half where any mistake with the ball would cost either team. With much at stake at the final quarter break the boys were told to bring the ball to the centre and take a chance if given, with momentum on our side we certainly gave the magpies wings a clipping but I have no doubt the match will be just as hard the next me we meet. We are now nearly halfway through the season and fortunately have a 2 week break a er such an intense game… me to regroup, repair and revive Bay! Go Demons.

Last week we travelled to Tantanoola for a sunny day of football. Unfortunately, we had one of our worst days of the years on the field with 3 of our teams not producing as we would have liked. Con nuing player injury and unavailability is making it hard for our coaches to put the best team on the park and leaving too much to too few. There were some bright spots for the day though, with the Junior Colts recording another huge win, Bevan Lipscombe playing his 200th Senior game for the Club and Bailey Rothall making his A Grade debut. A er the Interleague long weekend we play Kalangadoo and look forward to the challenge against our oldest rivals. Our major sponsor for our home game against Kalangadoo is Bi-Rite
Mount GambierJunior Colts: The Junior Colts con nued their excellent form, winning the games they should by a decent margin. They kept Tant scoreless and came away with a 135-point win. Goalkickers were shared around with Tom Richards the best of them again with 5. A er the week off and one more game again to go the kids will hopefully enter the halfway mark of the season in a top 2 posi on. An excellent effort from Pricey and the team a er a huge number of players have gone from last year’s Grand Final side. This is great promise for the future of the club. Best players for the Tant game were Kallan Price, Tighe Hurley, Jed Sinkunas, Kade Mulraney, Les Jagger and Harley Dale.
Senior Colts: The Senior Colts came up against the undefeated top team, but we showed some great improvement compared to other ou ngs against strong opponents. The win last week must have spurred the boys on as we show some great passages of play and only struggled to score ourselves and con nue to penetrate our forward 50. Final score being 9-86. Tyrone was our lone goal kicker. Best players were
Marcus McGrath, Lachlan Brierley, Digby Richards-Fennell, Brodie Pfitzner, James Seeliger and Shane Longhurst.
B Grade: The Reserves had a real shot to get their first of the year, but had a lot of players away, including their regular star ng midfield all playing A Grade. We started way too slow and gave them a head start. Ge ng the senior colts out of the rooms earlier and on the field would help next week. We fought back in the 3rd quarter thanks to an amazing goal from Ben Hentschke and some hard run from the midfield, but playing catch-up footy in reserves is very difficult. We ended up going down 48-83. Best players were Digby Richards-Fennell, Sam Hentschke and Bevan Lipscombe.
A Grade: The A grade should have been favourites going into this game, but with a few of our key players out from last week some doubt obviously crept into some of our minds. We may as well have stayed in the rooms the first 10 minutes as we let them walk in with easy shots on goal. Like the Reserves we then had to play catch-up footy all game and we ended up pu ng out our worst performance of the year by far. A lack of run and intensity was evident, and we let Tantanoola con nue to get away from us. We really struggled to get the ball forward and being 2 men down for most of 3rd term made a comeback near impossible. An improved final term was the only bright spot on the game. We ended up falling short 54-88. Best players were Sam Giersch, Trent Hawke, Tom Edwards, Dylan Childs, Jack Edmonds and Alex Hentschke. We held our annual Variety Night a er the game, so a big thank you to the social team, especially Sarah and Jack. Thanks to all those who made the effort to do an act.
Congratula ons to all our representa ves in football and netball who are represen ng the league in the Interleague games.

What a special day for Kalangadoo FC as we welcomed our past players as recently formed “Club 27”, our very much valued and appreciated sponsors and one of the highlights for the club in our home ground Indigenous Game with a moving welcome to country and pregame opening by club legend Tim Brennan, as the weather gods made sure that as the day went on it became a perfect day for footy
One could be forgiven for thinking it was a carnival like atmosphere early in the day as the number of U11’s had to be seen to be believed as both sides con nue to nurture and develop their youngest footballers and it just sets the day off nicely. Boxy and his team of volunteers con nue to provide a strong development founda on for our up-andcoming future stars and we can’t thank these guys enough.

Junior Colts: For our U14’s coming up against the Eagles is never an easy game, but Macca had some goals set and things for the players to work on throughout the game that would con nue to help them develop their footy cra . Having a full side this week allowed for players to be swapped around and play in different posi ons on the ground. The midfield had a ba le on their hands all day having to cover plenty of the ground and push back into defence to assist the backline. Best players went to Lachy McCann, Joe Box, Elodie Burr, Jack Newton & Jessie Dekoning.
Senior Colts: What a week for our U17’s as another of Tommy’s chargers in Coop McCann got the call up into the 1’s as a result of the hard work that he has been pu ng in and the good footy he has been playing. Once again credit to Jed Telfer and the Hatherleigh lads who came across during the game. 1st quarter the lads were a bit off and Tommy had to have a few words at qtr me and this saw the lads start to play the way they can with some quality passages of play but could only record the one major. The second half opened up and saw Coop on the end of some quality footy and allowed him to finish off nicely registering 5 majors for the day. Best players went to Coop, Connor, Harry, Eryne & Jack.
B Grade: A er a really great win against Port Mac the Kalangadoo B Graders faced a massive challenge in playing against the ladder leaders Hatherleigh and the Eagles proved why they are most certainly the team to beat this season. A er a number of changes, we were really pleased to welcome back Johnny Mules and Ricky Lindner for their first games and although the scoreboard was a convincing win to Hatherleigh it was not a reflec on of how compe ve
the game really was. Young players in Brad Male & Tom Jerome were fantas c as were the more experienced players of Nick Jenkins and Nathan Reeves who were clearly best on ground for Kalangadoo. Tyler Jones & Jus n Mansell also performed well as did Cam Auld. The B Grade team would like to thank everyone who helps us each week as volunteers that enable us to play every Saturday. Looking forward to another big and challenging game against Kongorong.
A Grade: As senior footballers & netballers from both sides walked onto the oval, past Tim Brennan as part of the smoking ceremony and lining up for the welcome to country one couldn’t but have a few ngles. This on top of hearing from Laney as past premiership player & coach before the game the boys were set to be up and about early on. Once again, a few outs a er a bruising encounter against the Bay but a few handy ins with coach Lynsey and Jack Casey in for 1st game for the year and with late withdrawal saw another senior colt in Coop McCann get to make his senior debut. In a game that was important for both sides figh ng for a spot in the 4 it was always going to be a tough ba le over the 4 quarters. This made for an entertaining game from a crowd perspec ve as neither side wanted to give an inch but the 1st qtr saw the Maggies get off to one of their be er starts for the year managing a 13point buffer at the 1st break. From there the game ebbed and flowed with some high-quality pressure footy on display with the Maggies having that bit more depth and more avenue to goals up forward. With a 4-goal lead going into the final quarter this proved just enough as the Eagles threw everything at us with the backline standing strong and forwards managing a couple of crucial goals when it counted to secure a 8 point win. Best on ground and the winner of the Indigenous Round Brennan Medal went to Liam Hay. Rounding out the best in a quality display Lachy Jones, Dylan Bromley, Brad Auld, Ben Gregory & Sam McManus.
Congratula ons to a few of our junior footballers selected to represent the league in the Zone Carival over the long weekend in both grades. U17’s in Connor, Coop & Brycie and the 15’s in Nato and coached by Chrissy Mules and Brad Auld alongside him.
This week sees us just up the road to take on the Murphies in the last game for the round and a real chance to con nue to build on what we have been working on over the last few weeks as we turn and head into the second half of the season.

This week we host our neighbours Tantanoola, and welcome our sponsors along to enjoy some Kongorong hospitality. Sponsors play a very important role in any small spor ng club, and we are very grateful for all those that choose to support us. We hope you enjoy the day
Notes from last round: Under 11: All kids turned up at Nangwarry eager and rearing to play footy. The skills and confidence of each player con nues to grow each week. It was good to see the older kids looking for their younger team mates to include them in the game and playing together as a team. Their delivery, marking and kicking of the ball resulted in some good goals. Awards: Intersport - Jack Mackenzie, Coaches Award - Bill Ellis, Rob & Amy Whi y Award - Harry Collins, President’s Award - Eli (Rooster) Aikenhead and Donut King - Huey Harding & Zayley Vanderpeer
Junior Colts: The boys had another great win against a tough opposi on. The teamwork used to move the ball forward is excellent to see, as well as the growing skills through defence. It's great watching the kids improve every week.
Awards: Aussie Disposals Award – Ryan Lucas, Lucas Family Award – Declan Richardson, Spot-On Fishing – Jacko Bald, Janeway Plumbing Award – Axel Page, Paradise Pizza Award – Blake Telford and rounding out the best players was Hunter Bingham.
Senior Colts: A beau ful day for footy with the sun shining, which was nice for a change, and made for great condi ons to play footy. With having some fast midfielders, and some height in our team, it was the perfect day for the boys, they have been training really well as of late, which we took into our game on Saturday. Playing our best team for half a game gave us a bit of breathing space, then a er half me we took two of the boys (Jack and Cohen) off to the sidelines in readiness for the senior game later in the day. Huge congratula ons to Cohen Janeway playing his first A grade game, well deserved and can’t wait to see what his footy future brings! The boys con nued to give it their all, playing four quarters of footy to get the win. Tyler Richardson (Ma hews Petrolleum Award) was an absolute stand out and I can see him in the senior side in the not-too-distant future. Other awards went to: Marley MacDonald – MT Wheels Award, Swallow Drive Meats Award – Ethan Williamson, Mick Mullan Award – Ryan Lucas, Coach’s Award – Toby McKinnon, Badenoch’s Deli – Ryan Taylor. Special men on to Shak Von Stanke kicking 7 majors to help our cause. Having the week of rest (bye) the training didn’t
stop leading into what will be a tough test for the boys against Tant this week. We will keep persistent and driving forward. Go Hawks!
Reserves: The day didn’t start well when the coach completely forgot that he named a club legend as vice-captain at the start of the year, and then decided that someone else would be captain for the day, with the regular skipper sidelined. In spite of the coach’s breakdown, the boys put together a fantas c team performance to beat the second team on the ladder. Everyone played their part and really lived the team’s ethos, that we are a no excuse, any situa on side. With a ra of players out and being down early it would have been easy to find excuses, but that’s not what we stand for, and when the going was tough, everyone dug deep. Andrew Telford shook off the miscarriage of jus ce, that robbed him of the captaincy, to deliver a brilliant display for the Commercial Hotel Award. Dan Hann stood up all over the ground and received the Killara Food Court Award. Sean the Camel Madden took the ball, and anyone in his way, apart, to get the Collins Court Butcher Award. Sandy Cameron contributed greatly down back for the Pick Ave Deli Award. Bohdi Pannenburg was excellent in the ruck for the first of the Club Tea Awards and Geoff Hay wound back the clock for the second Club Tea Award. Big thanks and well done to Shak Von Stanke and Tyler Richardson for stepping up from the senior colts. Both played excellent games.
Seniors: The boys started the game flat, fumbly and panicked, which con nued into and through the second quarter Inaccurate kicking saw us with more scoring shots but level at the main break. A er half me they found a gear and we were quick to add 6 goals on the scoreboard, only to then lapse again in the second half of the quarter and allow Nangwarry to kick their way back into the game. At three quarter me s ll leading we entered the fourth and Nangwarry kicked a couple of quick goals which put our boys back into panic mode and allowed Nangwarry to kick a few more for them to finish the game on top. Be er players on the day included Mick Waters, Luke McIntyre, Brandon Kranz, Ryan Vickery, Ma y Roberts and Lennox Lewis.
We headed back to the Club a er the game for the Black and Gold Ball. Shout out to DJ Mr Denmark! Also Emily, Evie, Kate, Dakota and Zara for ge ng the show organised and decora ng, and of course the awesome bar staff in Stacy, Jacqui, Amanda, Zoe and Kane. A great night had by all.

Congratula ons to all of our players who were selected to play Interleague and at the netball Country Championships on the long weekend. It’s a great achievement to be able to represent your club and play with the best players in the league and we hope you all enjoyed the experience. Tonight is our Rump and Red which is always a great fun night, thank you to everyone involved in the organising and catering. We have other events coming up throughout the season so keep an eye out around the club and on Facebook for more informa on and dates. We would like to make a special men on to our Silver sponsors – Café Melzar, Cool Moose Refrigera on, Gildera Forestry Services, JKM Maintenance & Labour Hire, Nutrien Ag Solu ons, Professional Wind Services, Sapiatzer Excava ons, Dentons Sport Power, Splendid Eggs and Telf’s Plumbing. Gold Sponsors – Glen Johnson Bowen, Moreland Holdings, The Property Co SA and Globe Hotel. Corporate Sponsors – Holla Fresh, Iberdrola and Somerset Hotel.
Junior Colts: Last game, we came up against a very big, strong team in Glencoe who have a lot of top age kids. To our teams credit, we fought hard to the end. Best players were Jackson Grant - TFC canteen who played a great game in the ruck, Jake Bevan, who played a great down back and on ball. Kobe Bromley - TFC canteen who was solid down back all day. Kaden Bell - Shanks Engineering ran all day on ball against a much bigger midfield. And Kaiden ShawyerMaccas who was a tackling machine for a first year player in under 14s.
Senior Colts: Last game seen us host Glencoe at home. A er a really scrappy first quarter where both teams had a lot of chances, the boys kicked into gear and played some really good team footy. Unfortunately for our boys our goal kicking was off at mes but we had plenty of shots at goals and came away with a solid win
again. Very proud of the guys and we s ll have plenty of improvement to come. Really disappoin ng for us to lose one of our key players in Brayden Rowe in what looks like a pre y bad injury which will keep him out for a while, we are all behind you mate and will hopefully see you back on the field later on in the year! Best players in no order went to Braydn Hateley, Brad Scanlon, Cade Kelly, Brayden Rowe, Sam Simmons and young Jakey Bevan, well done lads.
Reserves: Last game saw us go up against Glencoe at home. A great team effort with everyone giving it their all saw us get our first win for the year. Our best on ground went to Nick Joy for his brilliant work in the ruck and around the ground, other best players were Jack Cytrowski (Ampol fuel voucher), Marky Bell (A amurra Golf Club), James Batchelor (Tant meal voucher), Will Wright (Sportspower) and Brad Williams.
A Grade: We played Glencoe last game at home looking forward to another challenge. It was our sponsor day, reunion day and were playing for the Neil Von Duve Memorial Cup so we really wanted to get out there and put in a great performance. We started well moving the ball across the ground well. Unfortunately couldn’t kick straight but we were showing great signs for the first half. We come out strong again in the third having a great quarter. Unfortunately, with a decent lead a few of us had run out of legs and allowed Glencoe to kick a few late goals in the last quarter Well ba led out game by our boys. Super proud of the win everything we are doing and working on ge ng some reward. S ll a lot of improvement but all posi ve steps ahead. Best players in no order Cade Kelly (Ampol fuel voucher), Chris McCallum (Somerset voucher), Jack Dawe, Troy Ha (Foodland) and Braydn Reilly (Foodland).

Junior Colts: In superb condi ons (weather and oval wise) the boys took to the oval totally focussed on playing their best football. To their credit for most of the game they played the way our coaching team has been instruc ng them to play. We all know that we are a work in progress, that is the way it will be all season. If you stop learning you will soon be going backwards. As a group we have agreed we do not want that and have commi ed to everyone doing everything needed to improve our performance as individuals, and as a team. That journey started last week. The effort against the Burr Boys, was a good 4 quarter 'team effort' performance, that resulted in the win that the boys so desperately wanted. Great intensity, much be er use of the ball and decision making, a willingness to help each other, and plenty of second and third efforts. Now the challenge is to make sure that this is they way we play every week, regardless of the size and 'high end' age of our opposi on. We know that our boys are aware of this and are prepared to meet the challenge. Another really pleasing aspect was the willingness of our boys to help the Mt. Burr team out by volunteering to play for them, and actually play for them, enjoying the opportunity to keep their mates honest. The people who were responsible for picking best players certainly had a difficult job. Here is what the end result was (in no par cular order): Conrad, Flynn, Vinne, Eli, John, Riley and Byron. Anyone who
missed out can consider themselves unlucky. I hope this con nues every week from now on. Now for the Saints on our home turf. Anything less than the a tude, approach and effort, that was produced against Mt. Burr, will not be acceptable. Hopefully the message of con nual improvement is star ng to be understood by our future champions. Finally: Get out there and do it! All the best.
A Grade: The A grade game at Mt Burr was an intense match with one on one contests which while did not allow for a free flowing game resulted in an exci ng spectacle. Robe a er quarter me always looked to have the match under control but could not put Mt Burr away. Robe had the opportunity in the second quarter to put the match out of reach of the mozzies but only converted two of its ten opportuni es into goals. Robe played the second half of the game with no bench with injuries to Brown, Du on and Dunn adding to the long list of injured Robe players. Coach Brown asked for a huge effort from his players who responded keeping mt burr at bay and running out winners. Robe was well served by Miller in ruck together with the midfield group of Lawrie, Woodward and Dinning who con nually gave a contest around the ground. Walker and Bryant provide opportuni es in a ack and Pe t played his usual commi ed game at half back. The break will be welcome at Robe and the team will hopefully get several of the ten unavailable senior players back for the Saints at home.

What a great night last night at the home of the Nangwarry Saints! It was a fabulous turnout for the Nangwarry Gold Cup. Congratula ons to all those who backed a winner. Aidan Mills for winning the Nangwarry Cup with his horse Lunch me ****. Also congratula ons to the Best Dressed Chappo and Ebony you both looked amazing. Thank you to the Vanderhorst family for the use of their backdrop it was perfect.
Well what a day it was at Nangwarry on Saturday, the rain and clouds cleared and the sun came out. Whilst we didn't get all 4 wins we did get the win in the main game of the day. Congratula ons to Tas on his first win as Nangwarry Coach, to all the new boys, and of course all those who have contributed to the seniors we hope you celebrated in fine style long into the night. The win just added to the success of a great night at the club.
Last week we forgot to acknowledge Jack on winning the Phil Muhovics medal against Glencoe. Phil was a premiership coach and dear friend to many at Nangwarry. It was well deserved Jack, you played the game just as Phil would have asked with respect and integrity
A big thanks also the Port Mac who loaned us a handful of boys for senior colts, when asked they never hesitated to encourage as many of the boys to apply for permits to give us a hand. We have a lot of respect for the Bay, and their con nued support of the Saints. Also a big thanks to Weedos for stepping in as the coach for the day when Smithy became sick.
We would like to individually thank our several Major Sponsors for suppor ng the Nangwarry Netball and Football Club for season 2023. This week we acknowledge Aston Newman Timbers and Gildera Forestry
Aston Newman Timbers Pty. Ltd. was founded in 1969. The company's line of business includes the selling of lumber and other building materials. For all your renova ons why not pop out and see if the guys and gals at Aston Newman have what you need.
Gildera holds a seedling nursery capacity of 4.5m plants and is a forest/vegeta on maintenance service. Tim and Bec Scanlon have been long term supporters of Nangwarry Football and Netball Club.
Spor ng clubs would not survive without sponsorship, so we thank you very much.
Under 11: Budget notes for last week against Glencoe! Today we headed down to Glencoe, the weather held off for the kid's game which is always a plus. The kids are star ng to move the ball well and look for one another to share it around. The tackling has been unreal. Thanks to Glencoe for loaning us players so all the kids could get out there and do what they love. Cheers Hoody! Go the Saints!
Thanks heaps to Jase Manninen for stepping in as coach on Saturday against Kongorong. The kids were all keen as beans on Saturday, they are beginning to really work together as a team, and encourage each other on the field. It is good to see them beginning to use
the skills they are being taught and improving each week especially their marking.
Junior Colts: Tough day on the park for the boys this week. Only having 12 available from our usual 19 made for a difficult day Full credit to the boys that took the field they gave they're all ll the final siren. It was good to see our first year players step up this week and be more involved. We had our moments just weren't able to polish off and kick a few majors. A week off now and back into to take on Robe!
Senior Colts: Smithy was crook this week so the clutch forward Josh Weedon took the young lads on, and did a awesome job from all reports. Weedo’s notes: Boys played really good team footy. They were able to move the ball from their backline to the forward and convert them to goals quite easily. They're 3rd quarter was very impressive they got themselves right back in the game. Moved a couple of the boys in posi ons they don't usually play and they did a great job. Best players were Archer Virtanen, Archie New, Noah Virtanen, Tayte Virtanen, Riley Edwards and Peter Davis.
B Grade: Congratula ons to the A Grade on winning. The seconds started like a house on fire kicking 4 goals in the first quarter. A er that we started chasing the opponents and to there credit they were a lot fi er then us, which means we all have to get out on the track to get up to where we need to be. Best Sco y, Jayden, Schmi , Donny, Chappo, Benny. Goals Benny 3, Josh C 1, Jayden 1, Jarred. 1. Go the Saints.
A Grade: Nangwarry turned on the weather providing perfect condi ons for both players and spectators. We had a good build up to the game during the week and turned up confident with the task at hand. The boys started the game well and put us in a good posi on to end the first quarter with the lead. Kongorong kept throwing challenges at us for the next 2 quarters but was very pleasing that our boys responded to each challenge and to be within a kick at the next two changes. There was a good feeling and the team were up and about at the last change and from the first bounce of the last quarter the boys stamped their asser veness on the game and were relentless un l the final siren giving our large supporter base plenty to cheer about piling on 6 goals to 1 to run out winners by 28 points. Good win boys. Best players for the day were very difficult to break down to 6 as it was a solid team effort by all 21 that made the win possible. Logan Gibbs had a day out with clean disposal and decision making being named first best, Luke Thomson was ever reliable all day, Brodie Parsons worked relessly throughout the whole game, Jacob Hutchesson con nues his good form, Joel Virtanen played a true captain’s game and Ty Dinnison con nues to develop his role in senior football nicely. Cheese Hyland finished the day with 6 goals, Dylan Podobnik and Joel Virtanen with 2 each singles to Jake Biggs, Josh Weedon, Logan Gibbs and our two young guns Archer Virtanen and Noah Virtanen. Next we venture to Robe a er the bye and again we look forward to the challenge.
