The MSEJFL were once again excited to be a part of the Limestone Coast Regional Carnival which was held in Bordertown against rivals in WBFL & KNTFL. It’s always a highlight of the calendar and it allows our brightest and upcoming talent to pool together and play representave football but also create friendships along the way that they will look back in later years fondly.

2023 saw MSE retain both coaches from 2022 and this provided the players with some addional experience with both coaches having now played and coached at this level and are passionate about seeing our league compete and be compeve at the highest level.

The U15’s were led by Chris Mules who’s record in all levels of football speak for itself and was very closely assisted by Brad Auld who has played at the highest-level mulple mes. Coaches had a task this year in selecng their final squad and looked to be one of the more even and stronger squads in recent years and we were excited to see what the carnival would bring.

Game 1 saw us up against a KNT ouit that we looked evenly matched with across the ground. From the outset the boys looked very seled and managed to get going quickly with some slick ball movement and ulised the long open ground to advantage. The backline held strong in the first half repelling the ball constantly allowing our midfielders to go to work. This saw us with a narrow 3 point lead at the half. The second half we looked to go back into our shell somewhat and loose the aacking brand from the 1st half yet we remained in the game and had several opportunies to steal it late but in the end went down by 10 points. Best players game 1 – Lachy Brierley, Kane Gilbert, Charlie Bevan, Ryan Lucas, Nate Von Stanke-Dowie & Kai Gilmore.

Game 2 up against a very slick WB ouit that jumped us early in the first half but to our boy’s credit managed a goal in the 1st half which seem to spark them a lile. The second half we were a lot more compeve, registering a couple of goals ourselves and holding WB to only a few majors with the final score 11-6 to 3-1. Best players game 2,

Congratulaons to Lachy Brierley MSE Player of the Carnival and to Lachy, Charlie, Nate, Casey & Kane in making the Team of the Carnival.

U17’s saw Reece Duncan at the helm for the 3rd year running and this year was assisted by very well credenaled senior colts coach in Jed Telfer. The squad was liered with talented players with majority having played senior footy on a regular basis and a select few compeng in Glenelg teams.

Game 1 we were up against a very much larger side across the ground in KNT. They jumped out of the blocks early in the first half meaning our midfield and defenders had to work hard for the 22mins but there were some passages of play where we managed to control the ball and pepper the goals but could only manage a couple of behinds for the half. The second half we seem to get our running game going, li in intensity and used the long ground to our advantage while also holding KNT back and this saw us outscore them in the second half and build confidence going into the second game with the final scores 8-2 to 3-7. Best players Cade Kelly, Kallan Bevan, Ellis Cushion, Connor Genle & Braydn Hateley

Game 2 up against WB was a very even contest for the first half as both sides baled hard and were very evenly matched over the ground. This made for some quality footy and good passages of play as we went into the half me break only 3 points down. The second half was a repeat of the first as no team wanted to give an inch and we had more than our share of the ball all over the ground but could only manage the 1 gaol to WB 2 to go down in a very ght contest by 10 points. Best players game 2 – Kallan Bevan, Connor Genle, Cade Kelly, Ellis Cushion, Zeb Chant & Braydn Hateley

Congratulaons to Kallan Bevan who was awarded the U17 Player of the Carnival Award, MSE Player of the Carnival and to Kallan, Cade, Connor, Ellis, Brayden & Flynn Peel in making the team of the carnival.

Overall

at the carnival in both grades and we should be buoyed looking to the future as these young footballers connue to keep plying their cra and developing into our next crop of senior footballers.

Carnivals like these wouldn’t be possible without countless volunteers like our trainers in Erica Hurley & Sam Benne along with team managers, mekeepers, goal umpires and those who run water, so a big thank you to each and everyone of you.

Special thanks to our Interleague Sponsors in First Super & Belgravia Apparel and to Addie at The Rocks Shop for providing drinks to all players across the three leagues. Leading up to the carnival both Mt Burr and Glencoe allowed us to ulise their facilies and this is greatly appreciated.

Of course, the game doesn’t happen without umpires and as with all carnivals we had Umpires from across the three leagues pung their hands up to officiate over the weekend.

A big shout out to the parents and families who have supported the players in geng them to trainings and to Bordertown, along with our 9 clubs in supporng players to represent our league.

A personal thank you to Macca, Cloughy, Tug and Naomi as members of the Junior Execuve along with the Senior Exec as it makes life a lot easier having many hands to share the load to make everything happen behind the scenes especially on a day like it was Saturday with so much to organise.

To all the Mid South Eastern Football league players, thank you for pung your hand up and the commitment in represenng not only the league but club & family and we hope you enjoyed the challenge of playing representave football.

I would like to wish players all the best for the remainder of the season and hope that they will look back at their me playing representave football fondly and connue to work on their footy cra.

HATHERLEIGH EAGLES

football club notes seniors

A Grade: Even though we didn't get the win last week, it's probably the best four quarters we've played all year. It was a cracking day and the footy was just as good. Kalangadoo got the jump kicking the 1st goal of the game, but we hit back ourselves to level up. This was the story for 1st half, with the lead not pushing out past 3 goals but we couldn't quite hit the lead ourselves. We let it slip a lile in the 3rd as we kicked 4 goals but the Doo managed 6 to lead by 4 goals at ¾ me. In the last, they kicked the 1st to extend the lead to 5 goals, but we rallied and bit by bit clawed our way back to within 8 points deep into the term. Unfortunately, me ran out, and 8 points was the final margin. Best players was again Jed Telfer and Jase Bateman in the middle, Mikey Telford down back, Jake Wight on the wing and Hutchy up forward for his hang me.

B Grade: We made the trip over to Kalangadoo on Saturday for the grand final rematch, the deck was in a fair bit beer condion than last me we played there. Our goal kicking yips followed us over there, frustrang to watch as a coach. But we played excellent football, moving the football well and playing the brand we like to play. I sll think our best football is yet to come. Brad Wight had an outstanding game again all over the ground. Joe Rayson final got a full game in under his belt to take out second. Reidy was back to his best. Jack Sully played well up forward and brought plenty of energy around the ground. Big Alshy rounded out the best taking several big marks around the ground when we needed him.

Senior Colts: The boys had a great game on the weekend, coming away victors by 60 points. It was great to see all the boys try their hardest when playing for the opposion as well. The highlight of the game came with

10 seconds to go when Zack Ballantyne kicked his first goal in football, a moment we have been eagerly waing for. Our best player for the day was Ausn Fuller who has hit a purple patch of form. Jordan Atkinson had another great day intercepng many possessions. Brayden Chambers was very clean with ball in hand, while Riley Prouse and Ethan Marshall were great on the day also. We will enjoy a week off and then take on the bay in an important game for our side.

Junior Colts: Last week we took on Kalangadoo, the team were off to a good start. Young Will Dower connued his great form and started the game well kicking 3 goals in the first quarter taken home best on for the day, Coaden Taylor had any good snt up forward kicking 5 straight, 3rd best was Riley Haines also had a great game kicking with a few goals assist and kicking 2 goals himself. Thomas Atkinson was 4th best, his in and under efforts was vital for the team, 5th best went to Billy Bowering gave 100% at every contest he was in, very clean with the skills. Overall very pleased with how the team played across all 4 quarters, players geng a go in all different posions and giving it a good crack.

Under 11: This week we played at Kalangadoo and we were treated to superb football weather. The boys and girls were kicking to advantage with plenty of marks which allowed the ball to move well into the forward line. This week we played some of the best footy all year. Some great team footy sharing the footy around and geng everyone a kick. It was incredibly hard to pick best players today. Sam, Arabella, Arlan, Thomas and Sylvester all played good team footy this week.

Mini Colts: A great game against Kalangadoo, the boys played 4 solid quarters coming away with another win. Best players were Brock Lewis, Zach Howard, Lincoln Jones, Ausn Hopgood and Kade Grosvenor. This weeks vouchers were donated by Kaboom! Goal Kickers were Brock Lewis, Charlie Lasle, Max Pitson, Leni O'Dine and Jagger Macdonald.

Junior Colts: Kalangadoo was our latest test and they come out firing kicking with the wind in the first quarter. It took us a few minutes to get going and we started to use the ball well and managed to get a small lead going into the quarter me break. From there we played some really strong free flowing football to come away with another good win. Award winners this week were Harry Kennion who’s giving us plenty of first ball out of the ruck. TJ Howard with his classy ball skills and improvement. Maison Byrne for taking every opportunity and making really good decisions when he gets the ball. Naite Fox using the ball brilliantly by foot, rarely missing targets. Kade Gilmore who connually provides pressure and winning contested ball for a small player. Best Players this week were Harry Carroll, Brody Pra, Zane Lewis, Je Lewis, Naite Fox and Blake Lasle. Good luck this week against the Eagles!

Senior Colts: The boys bounced back well this week with a solid win, 101 to 29. Our boys can hold their heads high for the way they played within the spirit of the game, having to endure some unsavoury, unaccountable behaviour from some opposion players throughout the game which is really sad to see in junior football. 11 of our boys played for the opposion and gave it their all, even kicking goals for them, so well done to our boys. Without these boys pung their hands up to play for other teams, no-one would be playing at all, so thank-you boys. In a good team effort best players sponsored by the Lynch family were Riley Morgan who lead from the front all day, Archie New who connues his great form, Bradley Neale who played well for both teams, Parick Robinson who also played well for both teams, Jack Kain has had a great year playing his role down back and doing the team first stuff, Keilghe O'Flaherty has a break out game which was fabulous to see. Now we enjoy a few weeks off and get ready for our next challenge against Hatherleigh.

B Grade: With a nip in the air, Winter has arrived early this year and while the sky was grey most of the day, it hardly rained at all, just enough to make the playing condions greasy. Besides, who needs a windsock to know how hard the wind is blowing when the goalposts are all wobbling violently with the breeze and the ball heads to the boundary from directly in front! It was a bloody and costly affair Saturday against the 'Doo. Not even 10 mins into the 1st quarter all the 8's collided like a bowling ball hing ten pins! Ryan Von Stanke (8), Nathan Brotherton (88) and a K'Doo player, all with eyes on the ball, crashed hard into each other with Nathan B coming off the worst, leaving the game with a possible concussion and a bloody lip. Ryan fared beer and was able to keep going throughout the match but it was an early indicator of some white line fever amongst quite a few players from both sides, the packs becoming more aggressive as the game connued. Mere minutes later, in a run out from the forward posion, Ducky O'Dine and Roz collided midair going for the ball and to everyone's dismay Ducky broke his ankle as he hit the turf. The quarter was called early and thank goodness for the green whistle... but I think we can safely say that Ducky's footy career has been put to sleep! Despite the loss of one of our most steadying leaders the boys lied in the 2nd quarter kicking with the wind to manage a 15 point lead but as

always the 3rd let us down. K'Doo kicked 7 unanswered goals to seal our fate. Undisciplined acts led to free's that shouldn't have happened and the fever set in. Debut player, Ben Stratman, kicked a goal and managed to get 'up close and personal' to most of the K'doo team with strong aacking play. Best in Show, Ma 'Moscow' Roscow, kept absolute control of the ball from whatever posion he was tasked with, not only kicking goals (2) but keeping us on point as the boys run off the leash. Nathan Tilley got in amongst the carnage coming off with a bloody and torn up lip, copping a black eye to boot, while digging the ball out of the packs. Lone 'Wolfman', Jack Cawthorne, roved the ground with unrelenng pace while Jess Feast's bulldog tenacity worried the Magpies' forwards constantly, all 3 earning themselves a place amongst the fields best. Ma 'Mortal' Stark connued with whippet like form and fitness throughout the game taking many handy marks as we struggled to gain control of the 3rd quarter and Isaac Narass, with terrier like tendency, put his body on the line me and me again even nipping at the heels of that dust up that occurred during the final minutes of the game. Thankfully we have a 2 week break now to recover and get back to some solid discipline and training, as for our finals hopes, we don't need a repeat performance of ..”Who let the dog's out!” Go Demons! (You Hellhounds).

A Grade: What an epic match! With the Demon's '98 Premiership side watching on the Bay boys delivered an outstanding game of footy. As our first ever indigenous round, it was with great solemnity that the match was opened. Both sides formed a semi-circle as Mondo Stanton and Tim Brennan welcomed everyone to Boandik country with the tradional smoke ceremony. Elsie Newton did the coin toss and her son Tarquie Newton helped design our indigenous jumper which Tim Sullivan presented to the Kalangadoo captain as a sign of good faith and treaty. Aer that all bets were off and the game held all the magic of a grand-final. The enormity of the day rang true as it was these two clubs who faced off for the '98 premiership. Could history be repeated! In an incredibly hard game with the Bays only just keeping up with a determined K'doo side during the first half the bale lines were drawn and what a banquet of play for the spectators. JT was solid in the forward lines kicking goal aer goal while Lockie Tilley switched off the bench to great effect wherever he was placed, as did our senior colts Kai Gilmore and Luke Richardson. Wil Macdonald as always steadied the centre while the Sullivans Tim and Tom took care of the CHF line and flanks. Wade “Dos” Chant was magnificent in the back line stopping nearly everything in its path and provided much of the push out of the K'doo forward line earning him a well-deserved B.O G. Blake Lynch, Mark Smith and Ned Wilke lent much strength to the CHB and flank posion winning the ball despite overwhelming odds at mes. Aaron Harding, aer having a great turn in the reserves, provided ready support and plenty of pressure through the centre drives, leaving playing coach Josh Woodall to furnish the ball forward with style. It was praccally goal for goal and point for point in the last half where any mistake with the ball would cost either team. With much at stake at the final quarter break the boys were told to bring the ball to the centre and take a chance if given, with momentum on our side we certainly gave the magpies wings a clipping but I have no doubt the match will be just as hard the next me we meet. We are now nearly halfway through the season and fortunately have a 2 week break aer such an intense game… me to regroup, repair and revive Bay! Go Demons.

Last week we travelled to Tantanoola for a sunny day of football. Unfortunately, we had one of our worst days of the years on the field with 3 of our teams not producing as we would have liked. Connuing player injury and unavailability is making it hard for our coaches to put the best team on the park and leaving too much to too few. There were some bright spots for the day though, with the Junior Colts recording another huge win, Bevan Lipscombe playing his 200th Senior game for the Club and Bailey Rothall making his A Grade debut. Aer the Interleague long weekend we play Kalangadoo and look forward to the challenge against our oldest rivals. Our major sponsor for our home game against Kalangadoo is Bi-Rite

Junior Colts: The Junior Colts connued their excellent form, winning the games they should by a decent margin. They kept Tant scoreless and came away with a 135-point win. Goalkickers were shared around with Tom Richards the best of them again with 5. Aer the week off and one more game again to go the kids will hopefully enter the halfway mark of the season in a top 2 posion. An excellent effort from Pricey and the team aer a huge number of players have gone from last year’s Grand Final side. This is great promise for the future of the club. Best players for the Tant game were Kallan Price, Tighe Hurley, Jed Sinkunas, Kade Mulraney, Les Jagger and Harley Dale.

Senior Colts: The Senior Colts came up against the undefeated top team, but we showed some great improvement compared to other oungs against strong opponents. The win last week must have spurred the boys on as we show some great passages of play and only struggled to score ourselves and connue to penetrate our forward 50. Final score being 9-86. Tyrone was our lone goal kicker. Best players were

Marcus McGrath, Lachlan Brierley, Digby Richards-Fennell, Brodie Pfitzner, James Seeliger and Shane Longhurst.

B Grade: The Reserves had a real shot to get their first of the year, but had a lot of players away, including their regular starng midfield all playing A Grade. We started way too slow and gave them a head start. Geng the senior colts out of the rooms earlier and on the field would help next week. We fought back in the 3rd quarter thanks to an amazing goal from Ben Hentschke and some hard run from the midfield, but playing catch-up footy in reserves is very difficult. We ended up going down 48-83. Best players were Digby Richards-Fennell, Sam Hentschke and Bevan Lipscombe.

A Grade: The A grade should have been favourites going into this game, but with a few of our key players out from last week some doubt obviously crept into some of our minds. We may as well have stayed in the rooms the first 10 minutes as we let them walk in with easy shots on goal. Like the Reserves we then had to play catch-up footy all game and we ended up pung out our worst performance of the year by far. A lack of run and intensity was evident, and we let Tantanoola connue to get away from us. We really struggled to get the ball forward and being 2 men down for most of 3rd term made a comeback near impossible. An improved final term was the only bright spot on the game. We ended up falling short 54-88. Best players were Sam Giersch, Trent Hawke, Tom Edwards, Dylan Childs, Jack Edmonds and Alex Hentschke. We held our annual Variety Night aer the game, so a big thank you to the social team, especially Sarah and Jack. Thanks to all those who made the effort to do an act.

Congratulaons to all our representaves in football and netball who are represenng the league in the Interleague games.

football club notes

What a special day for Kalangadoo FC as we welcomed our past players as recently formed “Club 27”, our very much valued and appreciated sponsors and one of the highlights for the club in our home ground Indigenous Game with a moving welcome to country and pregame opening by club legend Tim Brennan, as the weather gods made sure that as the day went on it became a perfect day for footy

One could be forgiven for thinking it was a carnival like atmosphere early in the day as the number of U11’s had to be seen to be believed as both sides connue to nurture and develop their youngest footballers and it just sets the day off nicely. Boxy and his team of volunteers connue to provide a strong development foundaon for our up-andcoming future stars and we can’t thank these guys enough.

Junior Colts: For our U14’s coming up against the Eagles is never an easy game, but Macca had some goals set and things for the players to work on throughout the game that would connue to help them develop their footy cra. Having a full side this week allowed for players to be swapped around and play in different posions on the ground. The midfield had a bale on their hands all day having to cover plenty of the ground and push back into defence to assist the backline. Best players went to Lachy McCann, Joe Box, Elodie Burr, Jack Newton & Jessie Dekoning.

Senior Colts: What a week for our U17’s as another of Tommy’s chargers in Coop McCann got the call up into the 1’s as a result of the hard work that he has been pung in and the good footy he has been playing. Once again credit to Jed Telfer and the Hatherleigh lads who came across during the game. 1st quarter the lads were a bit off and Tommy had to have a few words at qtr me and this saw the lads start to play the way they can with some quality passages of play but could only record the one major. The second half opened up and saw Coop on the end of some quality footy and allowed him to finish off nicely registering 5 majors for the day. Best players went to Coop, Connor, Harry, Eryne & Jack.

B Grade: Aer a really great win against Port Mac the Kalangadoo B Graders faced a massive challenge in playing against the ladder leaders Hatherleigh and the Eagles proved why they are most certainly the team to beat this season. Aer a number of changes, we were really pleased to welcome back Johnny Mules and Ricky Lindner for their first games and although the scoreboard was a convincing win to Hatherleigh it was not a reflecon of how compeve

the game really was. Young players in Brad Male & Tom Jerome were fantasc as were the more experienced players of Nick Jenkins and Nathan Reeves who were clearly best on ground for Kalangadoo. Tyler Jones & Jusn Mansell also performed well as did Cam Auld. The B Grade team would like to thank everyone who helps us each week as volunteers that enable us to play every Saturday. Looking forward to another big and challenging game against Kongorong.

A Grade: As senior footballers & netballers from both sides walked onto the oval, past Tim Brennan as part of the smoking ceremony and lining up for the welcome to country one couldn’t but have a few ngles. This on top of hearing from Laney as past premiership player & coach before the game the boys were set to be up and about early on. Once again, a few outs aer a bruising encounter against the Bay but a few handy ins with coach Lynsey and Jack Casey in for 1st game for the year and with late withdrawal saw another senior colt in Coop McCann get to make his senior debut. In a game that was important for both sides fighng for a spot in the 4 it was always going to be a tough bale over the 4 quarters. This made for an entertaining game from a crowd perspecve as neither side wanted to give an inch but the 1st qtr saw the Maggies get off to one of their beer starts for the year managing a 13point buffer at the 1st break. From there the game ebbed and flowed with some high-quality pressure footy on display with the Maggies having that bit more depth and more avenue to goals up forward. With a 4-goal lead going into the final quarter this proved just enough as the Eagles threw everything at us with the backline standing strong and forwards managing a couple of crucial goals when it counted to secure a 8 point win. Best on ground and the winner of the Indigenous Round Brennan Medal went to Liam Hay. Rounding out the best in a quality display Lachy Jones, Dylan Bromley, Brad Auld, Ben Gregory & Sam McManus.

Congratulaons to a few of our junior footballers selected to represent the league in the Zone Carival over the long weekend in both grades. U17’s in Connor, Coop & Brycie and the 15’s in Nato and coached by Chrissy Mules and Brad Auld alongside him.

This week sees us just up the road to take on the Murphies in the last game for the round and a real chance to connue to build on what we have been working on over the last few weeks as we turn and head into the second half of the season.

football club notes

This week we host our neighbours Tantanoola, and welcome our sponsors along to enjoy some Kongorong hospitality. Sponsors play a very important role in any small sporng club, and we are very grateful for all those that choose to support us. We hope you enjoy the day

Notes from last round: Under 11: All kids turned up at Nangwarry eager and rearing to play footy. The skills and confidence of each player connues to grow each week. It was good to see the older kids looking for their younger team mates to include them in the game and playing together as a team. Their delivery, marking and kicking of the ball resulted in some good goals. Awards: Intersport - Jack Mackenzie, Coaches Award - Bill Ellis, Rob & Amy Whiy Award - Harry Collins, President’s Award - Eli (Rooster) Aikenhead and Donut King - Huey Harding & Zayley Vanderpeer

Junior Colts: The boys had another great win against a tough opposion. The teamwork used to move the ball forward is excellent to see, as well as the growing skills through defence. It's great watching the kids improve every week.

Awards: Aussie Disposals Award – Ryan Lucas, Lucas Family Award – Declan Richardson, Spot-On Fishing – Jacko Bald, Janeway Plumbing Award – Axel Page, Paradise Pizza Award – Blake Telford and rounding out the best players was Hunter Bingham.

Senior Colts: A beauful day for footy with the sun shining, which was nice for a change, and made for great condions to play footy. With having some fast midfielders, and some height in our team, it was the perfect day for the boys, they have been training really well as of late, which we took into our game on Saturday. Playing our best team for half a game gave us a bit of breathing space, then aer half me we took two of the boys (Jack and Cohen) off to the sidelines in readiness for the senior game later in the day. Huge congratulaons to Cohen Janeway playing his first A grade game, well deserved and can’t wait to see what his footy future brings! The boys connued to give it their all, playing four quarters of footy to get the win. Tyler Richardson (Mahews Petrolleum Award) was an absolute stand out and I can see him in the senior side in the not-too-distant future. Other awards went to: Marley MacDonald – MT Wheels Award, Swallow Drive Meats Award – Ethan Williamson, Mick Mullan Award – Ryan Lucas, Coach’s Award – Toby McKinnon, Badenoch’s Deli – Ryan Taylor. Special menon to Shak Von Stanke kicking 7 majors to help our cause. Having the week of rest (bye) the training didn’t

stop leading into what will be a tough test for the boys against Tant this week. We will keep persistent and driving forward. Go Hawks!

Reserves: The day didn’t start well when the coach completely forgot that he named a club legend as vice-captain at the start of the year, and then decided that someone else would be captain for the day, with the regular skipper sidelined. In spite of the coach’s breakdown, the boys put together a fantasc team performance to beat the second team on the ladder. Everyone played their part and really lived the team’s ethos, that we are a no excuse, any situaon side. With a ra of players out and being down early it would have been easy to find excuses, but that’s not what we stand for, and when the going was tough, everyone dug deep. Andrew Telford shook off the miscarriage of jusce, that robbed him of the captaincy, to deliver a brilliant display for the Commercial Hotel Award. Dan Hann stood up all over the ground and received the Killara Food Court Award. Sean the Camel Madden took the ball, and anyone in his way, apart, to get the Collins Court Butcher Award. Sandy Cameron contributed greatly down back for the Pick Ave Deli Award. Bohdi Pannenburg was excellent in the ruck for the first of the Club Tea Awards and Geoff Hay wound back the clock for the second Club Tea Award. Big thanks and well done to Shak Von Stanke and Tyler Richardson for stepping up from the senior colts. Both played excellent games.

Seniors: The boys started the game flat, fumbly and panicked, which connued into and through the second quarter Inaccurate kicking saw us with more scoring shots but level at the main break. Aer half me they found a gear and we were quick to add 6 goals on the scoreboard, only to then lapse again in the second half of the quarter and allow Nangwarry to kick their way back into the game. At three quarter me sll leading we entered the fourth and Nangwarry kicked a couple of quick goals which put our boys back into panic mode and allowed Nangwarry to kick a few more for them to finish the game on top. Beer players on the day included Mick Waters, Luke McIntyre, Brandon Kranz, Ryan Vickery, May Roberts and Lennox Lewis.

We headed back to the Club aer the game for the Black and Gold Ball. Shout out to DJ Mr Denmark! Also Emily, Evie, Kate, Dakota and Zara for geng the show organised and decorang, and of course the awesome bar staff in Stacy, Jacqui, Amanda, Zoe and Kane. A great night had by all.

Congratulaons to all of our players who were selected to play Interleague and at the netball Country Championships on the long weekend. It’s a great achievement to be able to represent your club and play with the best players in the league and we hope you all enjoyed the experience. Tonight is our Rump and Red which is always a great fun night, thank you to everyone involved in the organising and catering. We have other events coming up throughout the season so keep an eye out around the club and on Facebook for more informaon and dates. We would like to make a special menon to our Silver sponsors – Café Melzar, Cool Moose Refrigeraon, Gildera Forestry Services, JKM Maintenance & Labour Hire, Nutrien Ag Soluons, Professional Wind Services, Sapiatzer Excavaons, Dentons Sport Power, Splendid Eggs and Telf’s Plumbing. Gold Sponsors – Glen Johnson Bowen, Moreland Holdings, The Property Co SA and Globe Hotel. Corporate Sponsors – Holla Fresh, Iberdrola and Somerset Hotel.

Junior Colts: Last game, we came up against a very big, strong team in Glencoe who have a lot of top age kids. To our teams credit, we fought hard to the end. Best players were Jackson Grant - TFC canteen who played a great game in the ruck, Jake Bevan, who played a great down back and on ball. Kobe Bromley - TFC canteen who was solid down back all day. Kaden Bell - Shanks Engineering ran all day on ball against a much bigger midfield. And Kaiden ShawyerMaccas who was a tackling machine for a first year player in under 14s.

Senior Colts: Last game seen us host Glencoe at home. Aer a really scrappy first quarter where both teams had a lot of chances, the boys kicked into gear and played some really good team footy. Unfortunately for our boys our goal kicking was off at mes but we had plenty of shots at goals and came away with a solid win

again. Very proud of the guys and we sll have plenty of improvement to come. Really disappoinng for us to lose one of our key players in Brayden Rowe in what looks like a prey bad injury which will keep him out for a while, we are all behind you mate and will hopefully see you back on the field later on in the year! Best players in no order went to Braydn Hateley, Brad Scanlon, Cade Kelly, Brayden Rowe, Sam Simmons and young Jakey Bevan, well done lads.

Reserves: Last game saw us go up against Glencoe at home. A great team effort with everyone giving it their all saw us get our first win for the year. Our best on ground went to Nick Joy for his brilliant work in the ruck and around the ground, other best players were Jack Cytrowski (Ampol fuel voucher), Marky Bell (Aamurra Golf Club), James Batchelor (Tant meal voucher), Will Wright (Sportspower) and Brad Williams.

A Grade: We played Glencoe last game at home looking forward to another challenge. It was our sponsor day, reunion day and were playing for the Neil Von Duve Memorial Cup so we really wanted to get out there and put in a great performance. We started well moving the ball across the ground well. Unfortunately couldn’t kick straight but we were showing great signs for the first half. We come out strong again in the third having a great quarter. Unfortunately, with a decent lead a few of us had run out of legs and allowed Glencoe to kick a few late goals in the last quarter Well baled out game by our boys. Super proud of the win everything we are doing and working on geng some reward. Sll a lot of improvement but all posive steps ahead. Best players in no order Cade Kelly (Ampol fuel voucher), Chris McCallum (Somerset voucher), Jack Dawe, Troy Ha (Foodland) and Braydn Reilly (Foodland).

Junior Colts: In superb condions (weather and oval wise) the boys took to the oval totally focussed on playing their best football. To their credit for most of the game they played the way our coaching team has been instrucng them to play. We all know that we are a work in progress, that is the way it will be all season. If you stop learning you will soon be going backwards. As a group we have agreed we do not want that and have commied to everyone doing everything needed to improve our performance as individuals, and as a team. That journey started last week. The effort against the Burr Boys, was a good 4 quarter 'team effort' performance, that resulted in the win that the boys so desperately wanted. Great intensity, much beer use of the ball and decision making, a willingness to help each other, and plenty of second and third efforts. Now the challenge is to make sure that this is they way we play every week, regardless of the size and 'high end' age of our opposion. We know that our boys are aware of this and are prepared to meet the challenge. Another really pleasing aspect was the willingness of our boys to help the Mt. Burr team out by volunteering to play for them, and actually play for them, enjoying the opportunity to keep their mates honest. The people who were responsible for picking best players certainly had a difficult job. Here is what the end result was (in no parcular order): Conrad, Flynn, Vinne, Eli, John, Riley and Byron. Anyone who

missed out can consider themselves unlucky. I hope this connues every week from now on. Now for the Saints on our home turf. Anything less than the atude, approach and effort, that was produced against Mt. Burr, will not be acceptable. Hopefully the message of connual improvement is starng to be understood by our future champions. Finally: Get out there and do it! All the best.

A Grade: The A grade game at Mt Burr was an intense match with one on one contests which while did not allow for a free flowing game resulted in an excing spectacle. Robe aer quarter me always looked to have the match under control but could not put Mt Burr away. Robe had the opportunity in the second quarter to put the match out of reach of the mozzies but only converted two of its ten opportunies into goals. Robe played the second half of the game with no bench with injuries to Brown, Duon and Dunn adding to the long list of injured Robe players. Coach Brown asked for a huge effort from his players who responded keeping mt burr at bay and running out winners. Robe was well served by Miller in ruck together with the midfield group of Lawrie, Woodward and Dinning who connually gave a contest around the ground. Walker and Bryant provide opportunies in aack and Pet played his usual commied game at half back. The break will be welcome at Robe and the team will hopefully get several of the ten unavailable senior players back for the Saints at home.

What a great night last night at the home of the Nangwarry Saints! It was a fabulous turnout for the Nangwarry Gold Cup. Congratulaons to all those who backed a winner. Aidan Mills for winning the Nangwarry Cup with his horse Lunchme ****. Also congratulaons to the Best Dressed Chappo and Ebony you both looked amazing. Thank you to the Vanderhorst family for the use of their backdrop it was perfect.

Well what a day it was at Nangwarry on Saturday, the rain and clouds cleared and the sun came out. Whilst we didn't get all 4 wins we did get the win in the main game of the day. Congratulaons to Tas on his first win as Nangwarry Coach, to all the new boys, and of course all those who have contributed to the seniors we hope you celebrated in fine style long into the night. The win just added to the success of a great night at the club.

Last week we forgot to acknowledge Jack on winning the Phil Muhovics medal against Glencoe. Phil was a premiership coach and dear friend to many at Nangwarry. It was well deserved Jack, you played the game just as Phil would have asked with respect and integrity

A big thanks also the Port Mac who loaned us a handful of boys for senior colts, when asked they never hesitated to encourage as many of the boys to apply for permits to give us a hand. We have a lot of respect for the Bay, and their connued support of the Saints. Also a big thanks to Weedos for stepping in as the coach for the day when Smithy became sick.

We would like to individually thank our several Major Sponsors for supporng the Nangwarry Netball and Football Club for season 2023. This week we acknowledge Aston Newman Timbers and Gildera Forestry

Aston Newman Timbers Pty. Ltd. was founded in 1969. The company's line of business includes the selling of lumber and other building materials. For all your renovaons why not pop out and see if the guys and gals at Aston Newman have what you need.

Gildera holds a seedling nursery capacity of 4.5m plants and is a forest/vegetaon maintenance service. Tim and Bec Scanlon have been long term supporters of Nangwarry Football and Netball Club.

Sporng clubs would not survive without sponsorship, so we thank you very much.

Under 11: Budget notes for last week against Glencoe! Today we headed down to Glencoe, the weather held off for the kid's game which is always a plus. The kids are starng to move the ball well and look for one another to share it around. The tackling has been unreal. Thanks to Glencoe for loaning us players so all the kids could get out there and do what they love. Cheers Hoody! Go the Saints!

Thanks heaps to Jase Manninen for stepping in as coach on Saturday against Kongorong. The kids were all keen as beans on Saturday, they are beginning to really work together as a team, and encourage each other on the field. It is good to see them beginning to use

the skills they are being taught and improving each week especially their marking.

Junior Colts: Tough day on the park for the boys this week. Only having 12 available from our usual 19 made for a difficult day Full credit to the boys that took the field they gave they're all ll the final siren. It was good to see our first year players step up this week and be more involved. We had our moments just weren't able to polish off and kick a few majors. A week off now and back into to take on Robe!

Senior Colts: Smithy was crook this week so the clutch forward Josh Weedon took the young lads on, and did a awesome job from all reports. Weedo’s notes: Boys played really good team footy. They were able to move the ball from their backline to the forward and convert them to goals quite easily. They're 3rd quarter was very impressive they got themselves right back in the game. Moved a couple of the boys in posions they don't usually play and they did a great job. Best players were Archer Virtanen, Archie New, Noah Virtanen, Tayte Virtanen, Riley Edwards and Peter Davis.

B Grade: Congratulaons to the A Grade on winning. The seconds started like a house on fire kicking 4 goals in the first quarter. Aer that we started chasing the opponents and to there credit they were a lot fier then us, which means we all have to get out on the track to get up to where we need to be. Best Scoy, Jayden, Schmi, Donny, Chappo, Benny. Goals Benny 3, Josh C 1, Jayden 1, Jarred. 1. Go the Saints.

A Grade: Nangwarry turned on the weather providing perfect condions for both players and spectators. We had a good build up to the game during the week and turned up confident with the task at hand. The boys started the game well and put us in a good posion to end the first quarter with the lead. Kongorong kept throwing challenges at us for the next 2 quarters but was very pleasing that our boys responded to each challenge and to be within a kick at the next two changes. There was a good feeling and the team were up and about at the last change and from the first bounce of the last quarter the boys stamped their asserveness on the game and were relentless unl the final siren giving our large supporter base plenty to cheer about piling on 6 goals to 1 to run out winners by 28 points. Good win boys. Best players for the day were very difficult to break down to 6 as it was a solid team effort by all 21 that made the win possible. Logan Gibbs had a day out with clean disposal and decision making being named first best, Luke Thomson was ever reliable all day, Brodie Parsons worked relessly throughout the whole game, Jacob Hutchesson connues his good form, Joel Virtanen played a true captain’s game and Ty Dinnison connues to develop his role in senior football nicely. Cheese Hyland finished the day with 6 goals, Dylan Podobnik and Joel Virtanen with 2 each singles to Jake Biggs, Josh Weedon, Logan Gibbs and our two young guns Archer Virtanen and Noah Virtanen. Next we venture to Robe aer the bye and again we look forward to the challenge.

round 9 preview

hatherleigh vs port macdonnell

Hatherleigh host Port MacDonnell in the ninth round of the season. The Eagles will be looking for another win aer their loss last round, and Port Mac will have fresh legs aer 2 weeks off for a bye and the long weekend. Demi Vanderhorst and Maddie Pulmer will need to work hard in the goal circle and earn every possession with the strength of Alana Berkefeld and Alysha Coon in the defensive line-up for the Demons. Liza Mutch and Tegan Telfer will have a tough tussle through the midcourt, with both players fighng to earn a turnover for their respecve teams. Kori Collins and Megan Hein have proven to be a strong combinaon in the goal circle for the Bay, however they will have to work hard under the influence of Maddie Redman and Elly Redden. This game has the potenal to be close and should be a good game to watch.

GLENCOE vs KALANGADOO

Kalangadoo head to Glencoe to play off in the Match of the Round. Both teams have gone through the season undefeated, and this game will be the first loss for one of the two teams, with both fighng to come away with the win. Kalangadoo goalies Ebony McDiarmid and Abbey Duncan combine well in the circle, moving well and being fed with accuracy from outside by youngster Chloe Peacock. Glencoe’s Sarah Edwards and Chelsea Owen will work overme to limit the scoring opportunies and shut down the drive of Duncan and McDiarmid. Glencoe goalies Jenna Paproth and Chantelle Cocks will need to reconnect aer a changed combinaon last round, but it won’t take them long to sele and find their rhythm again. The pressure and drive down the court from both teams will be intense, with everyone fighng to win the ball. This game will be a tough one and could go either way

kongorong vs tantanoola

The Tigers head to Kongorong this weekend to play off against the Hawks. Both teams have a lot of drive and will work hard to earn every possession. Tantanoola’s Emma Gould and Keryl Ousey shoot with accuracy and are able to move well within the circle but will be toughly guarded by Emily Lightbody and Riley Buckingham. Kongorong goalies Evie Sealey and Tilah Buckingham will work relessly to earn possession and put the points on the board for their teams. Tantanoola’s Kate Varcoe and Kongorong’s Rach Perry will have a tough tussle for any loose balls throughout the court. Tantanoola defenders Kate Bromley and Tayla Rowe will fight hard to create pressure and force errors from the Hawks goalies. This game will likely go the way of the Tigers but Kongorong won’t let them win without a fight.

robe vs nangwarry

The Roosters and Saints face off this weekend in Robe. Nangwarry’s Tahlia Wilson and Hayley Vanderhorst are able to combine well in the goal circle, shoong well, but they will need to be strong to get any rebounds from the hands of Georgia Perkins and Emma Wheal. Both Wheal and Perkins will fight hard for any loose balls, creang pressure throughout the circle. Demi Carter and Tori Gluyas combine well in the goal circle for the Roosters and both shoot with accuracy, being fed well from outside by Annie Regnier. Nangwarry defenders Kayla Gray and Carly Ploenges both work relessly in the defensive circle for the Saints, pung hands over ball and creang turnovers for their team, which will be worked back down the court with help from Cassie Dinnison. Robe will come away with the win, but Nangwarry will make them earn it.

NETball club notes

Junior 2: We came up against a very strong team this week which really pushed our decision making and second efforts. We slowly realised we cannot pass over the top and need to work hard to come in front if we want to keep the ball. When we were paent and waited for the right passes, we got some good rhythm going down the court. Defensively we worked on geng around in front and geng our arms up, by doing this everyone caused some good turnovers. Awards: Emily Freebairn (Daisy Sun the Label), Hadlie Green (Toy Kingdom), Maggie Mahews (HLC).

Junior 1: A great game of paence and hard work today. Everyone applied pressure to their opponent, contested the ball strongly and chased down the loose balls. It was posive to see us take our me aer creang a turnover and valuing the ball. All down the court players combined well, creang space for each other, re-offering and finding the front posion.

Awards: Sienna Varcoe (Corner Clip), Leyla Marshall (Denton's Sportspower), Arabella Hassell (HLC).

13 & Under: Hatherleigh def by Kalangadoo 2339. It took us a while to get ourselves into the game today, which meant we played catch-up netball. Defensively we created plenty of turnovers, however, need to value the possessions and be paent with the next pass. In our aack line we need to ensure we create space for each other, be dynamic and use our prelims. We did have some great passages of play which we need to connue building on; be confident in our ability and trust each other

Awards: Sienna Clark (Daisy Sun the Label), Livvi Faulkner (Denton's Sportspower), Alirah Bowman (HLC).

15 & Under: Coming up against a very strong Kalangadoo side the girls knew it was going to be a tough game this week. We need to remember all the lile things when we are playing stronger teams. There were many passages of play that were great, but we do have lots of room for growth. A great game from Kalli really giving it her all and stepping up as Captain using her voice on and off court. Hannah and Poppy played a great game in defence and are starng to really work great together. Awards: Kalli Nele (HLC), Hannah Bellinger (Maccas's – Mt Gambier), Chloe Bellinger (Java Café).

17 & Under: Hatherleigh def Kalangadoo 59-31. A great team effort against Kalangadoo to come away with the win. We made a few changes, adapted quickly, and had great transion down the court. We had a great defensive game with Niah Faulkner and Kyah Carruthers taking some great intercepts and applying great defensive pressure. Great ming and strong leads down the court from our mid-courters into our goalies Imogen Nowak and Kalli Nele whose ming and communicaon in the goal circle really paid off. A great game played by all. Awards: Niah Faulkner (Daisy Sun the Label), Kyah Carruthers (HLC), Halle Marino (Java Café).

B Reserve: Hatherleigh def by Kalangadoo 4257. On an uncharacteriscally warm day at Kalangadoo we always knew this game was going to be tough but also a good measuring sck for us at this stage of the season. Sally started the game running and never stopped! Both Sally and Sarah used great vision to feed into the goalies and defensive pressure down the court to cause turnovers. Nic (our jack of all trades) made life difficult for Kalangadoo in defence and adjusted well when thrown into WA. Grace and Fiona never dropped their heads and worked all game on trying to shut down the K'doo aack, but going into the last we were down by fourteen. As always it was great to see everyone adjust to the changes that were needed throughout the game. We really need to keep up the posive talk on court as this certainly makes a difference. Melita and Eliza adapted their shoong style as the game progressed and it was great to see their confidence grow throughout the second and third aempt efforts at the ball, quickly switching to playing defensively to get the ball back in aack. A great game by Maddie who connues to improve and get her hands to the ball at WD. Overall lots of posives from the game and things we can work on. Let's come back strong aer the bye and put into pracce all the work we do at training. Huge thanks to Deni for taking the court when needed and Kalli for sing bench. Thanks also to Raels for scoring and Billie for primary carer. Awards: Sally Bateman (Denton's Sportspower), Grace Abbo (Somerset Hotel), Nic Thomas (Daisy Sun the Label).

at the start of the first quarter, Hatherleigh took up the challenge and answered with some impressive defensive play lead by Ella in WD and Sophie in GD, working hard to damper the K'doo aack which was coming strong and fast. Jasmyne in C did not let the K'doo aack inmidate her, she kept pushing forward, taking charge, and geng her hands on the ball with some impressive intercepts supported by Meg in WA. Ellie and Eliza's consistent shoong levelled the playing field with Hatherleigh only four goals down at the quarter me whistle. Second quarter mirrored the first, no court changes and Hatherleigh connued a defensive game to meet the K'doo aack. Connued accurate shoong by the opponents lead to K'doo increasing their lead by half me but minimised due to consistent defensive pressure especially in the goal circle with Georgia and Sophie. Three quarter me brought changes in with Nat taking the WA posion, Ella GK, Demi WD and Hayley switching with Ellie at GS. Hatherleigh found another gear in their defence with a fresh aack from Nat in WA geng her hands on plenty of ball. Missed scoring opportunies in the third and last quarter paired with hasty passes allowed K'doo to increase their lead significantly in the second half of the game. Kudos to the team for keeping their heads up and compeng unl the final whistle blew! It was great to see the posivity even when things weren't going our way! Work to be done to ensure a successful second half of the season but with a team like this it can be done. Thank you to Tarina Jones for scoring. Awards: Jasmyne Bellinger (Daisy Sun the Label), Ella Major (Somerset Hotel), Sophie Gibbs (HLC).

A Reserve: Hatherleigh def by Kalangadoo 3544. For being the first game for winter it was actually quite a warm day at Kalangadoo. A game we knew was going to be tough but a good indicaon to see where we are at this stage of the season. We started off brilliantly with excellent movement in our aack line and between our defence and mid-court we took twelve turnovers to have a lead of two goals at quarter me. Our second quarter we connued to play some great netball even though half way through the quarter Abby had to come off to retape and Immy stepped nicely into the GS posion, and we were sll in the game being even at half-me. Unfortunately, our third quarter was a bit of a coach's nightmare with Abby geng a knock to the knee and Georgia coming off with an injury, we lost all our momentum and the pressure applied by Kalangadoo forced us to lose our structure and we got a lile frazzled. A good posive was we went back out in the fourth quarter with more changes, Abby going back into goals with Immy, Ali going into WA and Cate back to WD, we regained our own game plan and stayed with Kalangadoo in the last. Without the disrupons of injuries, I believe we could have won this game. Keep believing in each other and let's keep pung into play what we have been doing at training and we will connue to improve even more. Enjoy the weekend off and look forward to our next challenge against Port Mac. Thank you to Niah for sing bench once again and Lucy for helping out when playing A's as well. Thank you to our ever-reliable Grace and Olivia for scoring and primary caring. Awards: Cate Sullivan (Denton's Sportspower), Ali McLennan (Daisy Sun the Label), Millie Smith (Somerset Hotel).

A Grade: Hatherleigh def by Kalangadoo 49-71. The girls had a great start against the top side with aack moving the ball nicely and showing great paence. The defence had a tough task up against the top sides quick and accurate aack line, but we were working hard to get any opportunity we could with us winning the second quarter and only being three down at half me. Aer half me a few of our old habits were creeping in allowing the doo to get a bit of a run on but with two players sll missing from the side it shows when we play consistent netball, we can match it with the best. Mads P and Dems first half was impressive to see with missed goals being rebounded and allowing us to go goal for goal for a half. If we can connue to work hard on stringing the four quarters together it will come. Rosie's work rate was unquesonable yet again with great movement and feeding while Erin gave it her all working hard all over the whole court. Lara and Elly worked hard to try stop a quality combinaon where they kept connually trying to mix it up and as the game went on Lara was geng turns. Thanks to Maree for scoring. Awards: Demi Smith (Somerset Hotel), Maddie Pulmer (Denton's Sportspower), Lara MacGregor (Daisy Sun the Label).

NETball club notes

Junior 2: Well done today girls against a taller, older & stronger opposion. You all fought to the end & didn't give up. We need to help each other out more when we're moving the ball from one end of the court to the other - we should always be reoffering & not standing sll. Ruby played a great first half in centre & found space on the court to receive the ball in. Ellie also played well in GK - intercepng a few balls & also pung her arms up, defending & trying hard for rebounds, like we'd pracced at training. Lucy gave 110% again - turned a lot of balls over when playing GD & also rebounded well - she earned herself the Subway award. Imogen did exactly what was asked of her, followed her player & got some touches because she was nice & close to her & able to deflect the ball. She earned the Fasta Pasta award. Well done girls, I hope you enjoy a couple of weeks off & are ready to go again against Hatherleigh in a few weeks' me.

Junior 1: Girls played a great game, they are really starng to work well as a team. Emily played a fantasc game in defence and Brianna has improved so much throughout this season. Thank you to our sponsor this week which was Wendy's and that award went to Brianna.

13 & Under: Port MacDonnell 21 defeated by Kalangadoo 49. The girls played a fantasc game, their excitement and encouragement within the game was something we had never seen from them before. We knew Kalangadoo were going to be tough and the girls gave their absolute everything and I couldn't expect anything more. I'm connuously proud and praise them for their efforts but today was something else, their strong hands, ght defence, amazing court structure down to the goalies and amazing shoong from the goalies, just have to work on being confident when pung those goals up. The girls are truly coming together as a team and are geng beer and beer each week! Terrific effort today girls.

Awards: Lily Whan (The Bay Pizzaria), Addison Smith (Fasta Pasta).

15 & Under: Port MacDonnell 27 defeated by Kalangadoo 59. Today definitely was not our day, we had some great transions down the court, and it was a goal for goal game in the first quarter Kalangadoo got a small lead on the girls going into the second quarter, but we were sll in it. At half me we made a few changes due to sickness and things not working. We then seemed to drop our heads a lot and forgot to back one another up. There is so much to work on that I think these next couple of weeks will do us good so we can train hard, because when we train hard, we play brilliant netball. Our passes, footwork and having no talk let us down a lot today, we need to remember that we are a team, and we really need to get the talk up all over court. Awards: Chloe Day (Hungry Jack's), Jasmine Morgan (Baker's Delight).

17 & Under: Port MacDonnell 60 defeated Kalangadoo 20. This week saw us lineup against Kalangadoo for the inaugural Indigenous Round, wearing new netball bibs designed by Tarquin Newton. With several new combinaons on court, all the girls did well to bring their teammates into the game and played an incredibly posive team game. We had a strong first quarter, Sophie Lewis once again with a dominant performance against a very strong Kalngadoo opponent. Our defensive duo of Stevie Collins and Alicetyn Stanley worked overme in the first half to give us the opportunies we needed to build on our lead from the first quarter. Lillie Lamb shot accurately in the first half and then provided excellent drive into aack aer shiing to WA in the second, earning her one of the week's best players. Ruby

Moody moved into GK in the second half against an opponent twice her height but did not let this stop her, allowing their goalies only 11 goals for the half. This week however, the star of the show was Stevie Collins. Her defensive pressure in the first half was something to be seen and aer shiing into C in the second, she only elevated further. Stevie's drive in transion was a pivotal aspect of the team's game on Saturday, playing well beyond her years. Congratulaons to the girls on geng another win under their belts before our two week hiatus. Awards: Stevie Collins (Arena Sports), Lillie Lamb (Bakers Delight).

B Reserve: Port MacDonnell 26 defeated by Kalangadoo 40. We started off a bit slow, which made it difficult to catch up. When we were all making movement and bringing the ball down into aack, we had some wonderful parts of play. It was our own errors, forcing passes or the off placement into space that let us down. We need to protect the ball with our body posioning. Your 'keep going' and never give up atude kept you all working hard, be proud ladies. Well done Arriella and Amber for your efforts, geng today's awards. Thanks Victoria Hotel Shipwreck Bistro & The Bay Pizzaria.

B Grade: Port MacDonnell 35 defeated by Kalangadoo 54. A cracking first quarter performance started our game off solidly The focus and concentraon was evident throughout the court by all. Ball movement was swi and targeted. Defensive and aack working brilliantly together. Our next step as a team, is to maintain this high level intensity throughout the game. With a second quarter lapse, we were unable to stay in contenon with our opponents. Everyone worked hard to maintain possession in the second half of the game and dug deep to win ball and transion down court. I was impressed by the quality of our play and the posivity on the court. The execuon of our game plan was very clear, and everyone followed through with determinaon. Our next goal is to play four solid quarters of netball. Awards: Jess Grigg (Intersport), Deanne Spencer (Shipwreck Bistro, Victoria Hotel Port MacDonnell).

A Reserve: Port MacDonnell 42 defeated Kalangadoo 35. Had a great start to the game today, with our paence and persistence on court. Our defence Issy, Nic and Kate worked overme all game and provided us with many turnovers which we were able to score on. New combinaon in the goal circle today, which didn't disappoint with Keyarnah and Cody working well together and ensuring every shot counted. Izzy Lamb ran out the game in the middle and ensured she was always an opon. Our last quarter was a lucky one, with K'Doo geng a run on but lucky for us we were able to hang on for the win. Awards: Keyarnah Smith (The Bay Pizzaria), Issy Sneath (Victoria Hotel).

A Grade: Port MacDonnell 33 defeated by Kalangadoo 62. Very disappoinng game today girls and we all knew it, had a very slow start, and dropped our heads early. I give credit as we kept fighng right to the final whistle and never gave up. We had so many missed opportunies, which were caused by our own silly error and choices. Our defence worked overme and really made K'doo aack work hard for every ball. We just really struggled to bring the ball down the court and capitalise when we had the extra opportunity to score. Let's have a well earned 2 week break, regroup and come back stronger than ever Awards: Kori Collins, SPONSORED BY Chris Patzel (Victoria Hotel), Alana Berkefeld SPONSORED BY J O. NETball club notes

Junior 2: Another great game from everyone, a very cold morning but you all warmed up very quickly, and it was great to have a full team again. You all keep improving every week which is great to see. Everyone had amazing defensive pressure all game and all over the court which made the game great to watch. Encouragement went to Ruby O, the drill we worked on at training worked and you did so well geng those intercepts and touches all game. Best player this week went to Indiana C (LICO Pty Ltd) for a good loud voice all game and for keeping on trying to get in front of your player Special shout out to Ruby J as well, you had your eyes up and read the play well, and went for an amazing intercept. Great work to everyone today!

Junior 1: Well done to everyone today

We trained really well on Thursday night and took that into our game. Shelby (Metalworx) & Hollie both received the awards today for great games and focusing on what they learnt at training and applying it in the game. Well done girls.

13 & Under: A great game girls! You all worked well together and it was good to hear you encouraging each other out on the court. We displayed some excellent defensive pressure all down the court which resulted in numerous turnovers. There are sll a few things we need to work on but the improvement from the start of the season has been excellent. First best went to Hallie (Dycer Construcon) for her movement in the circle. Second best went to Emma who provided great drive down the court and never gave up. Third best went to Ella who combined well with Hallie in the goal circle. It will be a tough game today so let's come out firing from the first whistle!

15 & Under: What a team effort today

There was talking everywhere on the court, great movement and drives down the court were med well. Defense worked hard, reading the play, not over comming to cause the contact but stepping back and picking off the next pass. Shooters moved well and shoot with great accuracy and rebound any missed goals. Mid court worked endlessly with opening the court up to create a clear vision on the court. Best went to Maddy Bignell (Maloney Plumbing) she had hands to so many balls, chased lose balls and slowed her passes up for more accurate pass into hands or space of the receiving player. Second best went to Kloe Philips she spoke connuously down the court re offering and creang great drive and passes into the goal circle and an appearance in GK which played very well. MacKenzie Biggins has worked hard with the ming of her leads and played a great game this week. Great game girls today you played well as team and came home with the win.

17 & Under: Our game had loads of great passages of play with Zoe & Lara seeing the space in the circle to Alyssa & Montana. In defence Giaan, Caitlin & Caitlyn combined well with pressure all the me. Jena gave her all and chased opportunies when they presented. Lilly stepped in for the last quarter when we finished well. We know what we need to work on & let's have confidence in ourselves to do all you can in each posion and then for each other. Enjoy the long weekend break. First best (Degaris Lawyers) award: Zoe, second: Jena, encouragement: Lara.

B Reserve: Bad luck girls! We had some very good passages of play in each quarter where we seemed to get a run

on, working the ball down the court with strong drives, backing each other and geng some great turnovers. However, some of our passing, pung our heads down and being unable to convert let us down. I am sll so proud of how far we've come over the last 8 weeks as a team and our combinaons are working well and improving with each game. We sll have some injuries and illness to overcome to get back to full capacity but we are doing well to compensate! We have a week off now to regroup and work on some of the areas we'd like to improve on. Thank you to Alyssa for sing on the bench for us once again, it is much appreciated. Best players went to Jacinta (Key2Sale) for being a reliable opon down the court and her direcon of play in centre. Second best went to Jorja for her ability to read play and some awesome defensive work. Well done and onto the next.

B Grade: 43-36. With a few of our usual players missing yet again everyone adapted well to someone new on the court. Well done and thank you to Holly for filling in, you did a great job! It was, however, a fantasc effort by everyone. Our defence was solid yet again geng many turnovers and our goalies are starng to work well together, just need to work on moving sll. Our mid court and best players, Hayley (24/7 Car and Dog Wash) and April, were excellent all day, working the ball down, direcng the play and feeding into our goalies. Well done girls, let's keep working at it and improving as the year goes on.

A Reserve: Fantasc 3 quarters of netball girls! Our best game yet. Just ran out of legs in that last quarter and the skills dropped – but thankfully we had that buffer! Couldn't have asked for a beer team game – everyone backed each other up, our talk was great and everyone's effort and 2nd efforts were A+. Great shoong from Max today (1st Best, B & P Travel and Cruise) – and great movement in the ring from both you and Laura. The birthday girl had her best game yet! Well done Jorja. Your driving and paence around the circle was great – you're seling in well at WA, keep it up. Great job in the defence circle today Jessie (2nd Best) – your contested balls gave us so many opportunies and we had our movement in the circle sorted (for most of the game). Our transion down the court was so much beer this week –great driving from Chloe, Sam & Jessie. All round, so many posives to take out of today and it just shows the kind of netball we are capable of playing.

A Grade: Well done girls - as a team we played a really posive and hard fought game. It took us a bit of me to sele into another different goalie combo, but Alice and Donna did a good job of working the ball around unl the right opon presented. Our defence had a very tough job on some extremely tall opposion and worked hard off the body to get into the right posion. Chelsea (O'Brien Electrical) had a great game contesng lots of high passes and adjusng as the game went on. We sll had a few passages coming out of defence and entering the goal circle where we rushed ourselves which forced us into making the wrong decision. Let's make sure that we keep treasuring the ball and don't get tunnel vision down court. Really proud of our fight in this game to keep pushing for the whole four quarters. A big thank you to Malinda for filling in for us. You sloed back in with Jenna seamlessly and we're accurate as always. Keep working hard at training and let's carry this form into this week.

Darcy played an awesome game in aack, moving well in the circle and her drive down the court was great to watch. Thank you to Asha and Izzy for filling in for us! Best players were Ruby and Darcy with Darcy geng the award.

15 & Under: Great to get another win. Kongorong played well and made us work for every procession while out defence for the game was not the best. We played too loose on our players and wasn't in posion for rebounds. We will work on passing and leading in front again at training and hopefully we can posion ourselves in front of our players for Robe game. Fasta Pasta Award went to Skye for another great game feeding the goalies well and maintaining her high work rate for the game. Skye created many turnovers and played ght defence to gain the intercepons needed to give us opportunies on the scoreboard. Hope all enjoyed the long weekend.

17 & Under: Firstly, I would like to thank you girls for welcoming me as your coach this week and listening and taking in everything I had to say. There were so many

good passages of play that shows me how much potenal you all have. Goalies showed some great movements in the ring with some good passing from the mids. We just need to a bit quicker to release the ball to our goalies to minimise the chance of intercepon. Defence worked really hard all game and took on all the advice I kept throwing at them with improvements every quarter. If we sck a lile ghter to our opponent and keep our eyes up we will see more opportunies for the ball to be our But overall I was so very happy with everyone's performance this game and want to thank you again for having me as your coach this week. Best players Scarle Black and Tanisha McNair

B Reserve: Great game today girls, although the score didn't go our way it was one of the best games I feel like we've had, everyone had such great moments of play Maxi, Kate and Ellie played amazing in goals all 3 girls did such a great job the movement and voices you all used was amazing. All midcourt did such an amazing effort working it into aack great effort to all team team! And a big thank you to the girls who filled in for us today. Once again our defence did such a great job keeping the pressure on and turning the ball over and working it back into our aack Best players Tamara Shepherd and Kate Clayfield.

B Grade: Great game girls, although we did not get the win, you all fought really hard right down to the last minute. You all gave me 100 percent, and put your bodies on the line to win the ball. To be 12 down at half me and get within 2 goals in the last quarter showed me what you are all capable off when you want something. Krissy and Zoe worked well in defence, you are beginning to talk and work well with each other. Kate and Shandeen played well in goals once they started rotang. Giorja, Monty, and Ellie all created space and worked hard at reoffering in the middle. It was also great to see majority of the team at the funcon Saturday night, it was nice to just chill and have a drink and dance.

A Reserve: First me as coach this game and although we had our defenders out, and had a completely different team to usual, we really put in and never gave up. Started off well in the first quarter with some good aack movement, feeding to goalers and shoong. Just at mes through the game we tried to rush and passes were errac. When we played our game and looked for opons and steadied was much beer. Defence worked really hard all game and got plenty of touches against strong opposion, Ella never playing defence before put her hand up and really gave it her best and was rewarded for it geng best player award. There were so many moments in this game where I can see the potenal and with some trainings under our belt and court structure we will be sure to see much improvement second round. Hold your heads high was a great effort.

A Grade: Lots of improvement this week girls. When we played our own game and slowed it down it worked really well. We just remember to stop and not rush as soon as we try to keep up with the other team we make poor choices with our passing. Last half especially third quarter worked well moved ball around and waited for right opons. If we can consistently get 4 quarters the score line will be totally different. Once again good defence by Carly, Kayla and Chrystal geng many intercepts and we sll work on bringing the ball out of defence. Alice ran hard and worked well in her first game for us this season, especially last quarter taking many intercepts. Tahlia and Hayley combined well last half especially in the third was great to see we can do it and if it's more consistent weekly score will be totally different. Let's keep working hard to improve. Award went to Tahlia.

Kalangadoo 71 def Hatherleigh 49

Kalangadoo celebrated Australian Indigenous Round with both clubs joining the football teams to parcipate in a pre-game smoking ceremony performed by Tim Brennan.

The match started at a quick pace with both respecve goal circles finding space with ease and converng accurately. Hatherleigh’s Maddie Pulmer and Demi Vanderhorst worked overme to unsele the Kalangadoo defence of Lara Munro and Reanna Wetherall. Erin Watson and Rosie Nele worked hard to find the space in the mid court with Kalangadoo making them work hard for every ball. Kalangadoo was the first team to sele and take a slight advantage going to the first break 19 to 15. Both teams remained unchanged going into the second quarter, which was again an even contest. Hatherleigh ghtened up their full court defence and caused mid courts turnovers to give their goalies plenty of scoring opportunies. Hatherleigh finished the quarter strong and able to reduce the margin to 3 goals at the main break.

Kalangadoo made just one change at the main break, bringing Georgia Duncan into Goal Defence and Lara Munro moving back to Goal Keeper. Hatherleigh remained unchanged. The new defensive combinaon had an immediate impact on the momentum of the game with Georgia Duncan seling quickly into the game to combine with Munro to turn the ball over for Kalangadoo and add scoreboard pressure to allow Kalangadoo to go to the final break 55 to 42.

Hatherleigh maintained their work rate for the final quarter but were unable to reduce the margin. Lara MacGregor and Elly Redden contested every possession and got their hands to some rebounds to give their side some more scoring opportunies, but the Magpies forged ahead with the final margin of 22 goals, 71 - 49. Indigenous Round Medal Winner –Kalangadoo’s Abbey Duncan.

Best players - Kalangadoo: Ebony McDiarmid, Jane Auld; Hatherleigh: Maddie Palmer, Demi Vanderhorst.

Mount Burr 36 lost to Robe 59

An even start to the game with both teams driving the ball strongly in their aack line. Mt Burr Wing Aack Ella Easterby driving strongly to the circle and feeding goalies with strength. Laura Schultz (Mt Burr) and Annie Hunter (Robe) had a strong contesng game though the centre. Robe goalies Demi Carter and Tori Gluyas worked the circle well, making space and creang opportunies for Wing Aack Lucy Perkins to feed with accuracy. The defensive pressure from both sides forced errors which were capitalised on by the goalies. Lauren Wheeler at Goal Aack for Mt Burr moved well to create space in the circle and finishing off shots accurately. The scores were even at quarter me with 12 goals apiece.

Defensive pressure from Robe’s Goal Defence Emma Grant made the first few goals difficult for the Burr with deflecons meaning that Clark and Wheeler had to present front to have scoring opportunies. Easterby connued to be a driving force onto the ring, working paently with Schultz to feed the goalies. Gluyas connued to be a strong presence in the goal circle for Robe, making space and holding strongly to receive the ball. Megan Thiele worked well defensively at Goal Keeper,

however Mt Burr made passing errors meaning they were unable to convert from turnovers. Hunter connued to combine well with Perkins, using angles around the circle to posion effecvely when feeding goalies. Robe defensive structure forced errors and safely delivered the ball into goalies to create a handy 11 goal lead into the half me break.

Robe made changes, bringing Georgia Perkins into Goal Keeper to add more height to the defensive circle. This paid off with Robe rebounding any missed shots, with transion down court through Hunter and Perkins ensuring shots were scored. Gluyas and Carter connued to combine well in Robe’s goal circle presenng strongly to the ball and finishing off with accuracy. Caitlyn Payne moved to Wing Aack for Mt Burr, combining well with Schultz to feed goalies. Burr seled with passes, having paence to limit unforced errors. Robe made the most of any turnovers extending their lead by a further 3 goals.

Mt Burr made more changes bringing youngster Ashlee Dean on for her 2nd game of A Grade for the club. Schultz moved into goals and Easterby to the Centre. Gluyas for Robe went to the bench with Halle Carter coming on at Goal Aack. Her drive and movement created space in the circle. Easterby and Hunter had a close contest in the centre with both creang space and drive for their respecve teams. Any turnovers that Mt Burr took in defence were closely contested by Robe, with pressure over passes causing passing errors. The Carter sisters connued to score with accuracy, making it difficult for Mt Burr to stem scoring opportunies. Schultz drove hard into the circle, creang space and a presence for Easterby and Payne to feed. Robe connued to make the most of turnovers which ended up making a difference on the score board. Hunter connued to feed the goalies with precision passes and Robe’s accuracy in goals helped them to a solid win.

Best players - Mt Burr: Ella Easterby, Caitlyn Payne; Robe: Lucy Perkins, Ellen Ramke.

Nangwarry 19 lost to Kongorong 51

Both teams started off strongly working ball around well. Kongorong defence applied lots of pressure forcing Nangwarry to make numerous passing errors. Kongorong’s Emily Lightbody really made it difficult to get ball to goalers with her ght defensive pressure. Evie Sealey moving and shoong well for her team this quarter. Kongorong led by 9 goals at quarter me.

Kongorong connued to apply plenty of pressure, with some floang through the middle making it hard for Nangwarry to bring ball down the court to their goalers. Rachel Perry running well through the middle for her team, providing plenty of opons and feeding well. Kongorong goalers really started to move ball around this quarter well even with some great defence from Nangwarry’s Kayla Gray who was taking numerous intercepts. Main break score being Nangwarry 8 to Kongorong 27.

Nangwarry made changes pung Cassie Dinnison to Wing Aack, Tahlia Wilson to Goal Aack and Hayley Vanderhorst to Goal Shooter, which seemed to have a posive impact for the Saints. Through Dinnison, Nangwarry were able to drive hard onto the ring with some paent feeding. Wilson also stepped up providing plenty of opons for the Nangwarry feeders

and finishing off well. Carly Ploenges and Gray connued to work hard with Gray sll intercepng numerous balls even though Tilah Buckingham really moved and posioned well for her team. Kongorong had a 26 goal lead going into the final quarter

Kongorong again picked up in defence this quarter making Nangwarry goalers work hard. Nangwarry started to make poor choices due to fitness in aack end. Lightbody and Riley Buckingham picking off numerous balls. Alice Circelli for Nangwarry picked up this quarter running well for her team and picking off numerous balls and having a good tussle with Perry. Gray connued to get hands to many balls. T. Buckingham came off with an injury with 5 minutes to go, meaning R. Buckingham went into goals and Jasmin McKinnon into defence. This didn't stop Kongorong at all, Nangwarry were rushing too much in aack with their passing and giving it straight to Kongorong. The final score Nangwarry 19 Kong 51.

Best players - Nangwarry: Tahlia Wilson, Kayla Gray; Kongorong: Emily Lightbody, Rach Perry

Glencoe was without Chantelle Cocks for the clash against Tantanoola but had the inclusion of last year premiership player Malinda Markiewicz (Foster) at Goal Shooter. Tantanoola recorded the first goal through Keryl Ousey, with Glencoe missing the first, but was rebounded by Jenna Paproth to score. Glencoe got off to a small lead with Tantanoola pegging it back as Emma Gould and Ousey’s height a problem for the Glencoe defenders. Only 2 goals separated the sides at the first break. Tantanoola moved Kate Bromley to Goal Keeper and Tayla Rowe to Goal Defence at the start of the second quarter. Tantanoola showed some good transion with Ousey shoong a long bomb to close the gap. Glencoe stepped up their mid court pressure causing wayward passes by Tantanoola to go to the break 3 goals up.

Tantanoola changed of Casey Walker to Wing Aack and Jami Walker to Wing Defence at half me, whilst Glencoe remained unchanged for the game. Glencoe started strongly with paence feeding from Donna Jaeschke and Alice Tentye. Tantanoola pushed back with a number of intercepts from Tayla Rowe however Glencoe connued to have answers and took care of their possessions. Passing turnover from Tantanoola were punished by Foster and Paproth who sloed back into a familiar combinaon from the 2022 season. Chelsea Owen and Sarah Edwards created opportunies for their side with ght checking defence.

Going into the last quarter Glencoe held a lead 40-34 with Tantanoola scoring the first goal. Casey Walker’s ght checking provided an early intercept along with another from Rowe as Tantanoola tried to push back the score line, however Glencoe had all the answers.

Glencoe’s Transion down court under the direcon of Jaeschke was finished off with the experience, screens and accuracy from Foster and Paproth. Foster finished with 40 of the 56 of Glencoe’s goals with high accuracy and was a focal point. Finishing with a long shot with a second to go.

Best players - Tantanoola: Tayla Rowe, Casey Walker; Glencoe: Chelsea Owen, Donna Jaeschke.
