However, the Bulldogs bit back straight away, which set the tone for the day as the lead never eclipsed single figures. Eventually it took the coach Brayden Kain to stand up and kick the sealer, while Scott Enderl also performed a crucial role in the Round 13 will be played on its rescheduled midfield. date this weekend where some look to respond from a dogfight in round 9, while Despite the grand success over the 2019 others take their first steps into the premiers so far, Kain expects the third bout to be the toughest yet. cauldron after COVID. The yellow and black showed they are well South knows how to hit the Tigers where it and truly in the hunt for back-to-back flags hurts and should be tough to beat if when their veterans overcame a charging another four-quarter performance is produced. Millicent outfit. After the Bendigo Bank Western Border football and netball seasons roared back to life last weekend in stunning fashion, the question is how well the clubs can respond seven days later.
The Tigers held sway for most of the contest to earn a solid lead until three quarter time, which sparked the Saints’ final push. A sudden Millicent burst wiped North’s four-goal lead to just three points, but forwards Justin McConnell and Sam Stafford, plus defender Jake Schutz stepped up when it mattered to hold on. The thrilling win at home is a welcome boost for the Tigers and co-captain Brad Stafford believes it adds extra motivation to perform against the Demons. South has easily topped North on both occasions this year by 94 and 47 points, but Stafford hopes the third clash will be a different story. “We feel like a different team than what we were back then and hopefully we can show that,” he said. “I thought we quite competitive in the second game and one bad quarter cost us, so we are looking forward to a good battle.” But the Demons also looked in good touch holding off a spirited East side at the same venue as this weekend. Key forward Brodie Foster could not have enjoyed a better way to return from injury, kicking a goal after less than 20 seconds of playing time had elapsed on the clock.

But the Roos bounced back and returned the favour at McLaughlin Park despite registering another scoreless start. Although Robinson managed to boot five goals after a thrilling one-on-one duel with Jake Schutz, North just snuck home last weekend. The disappointment leaves Millicent hungry to rediscover the winning feeling and this mindset should ensure Clint Gallio’s team gets revenge from the previous encounter. Casterton Sandford v East Gambier It is a case of déjà vu for the Bulldogs as they plan tp head to Island Park for the second time in three rounds. At the time of publishing this game is in jeopardy with border restrictions causing issues for both clubs. This begs the question what will happen for the rest of the season should Casterton Sandford not be able to play this week?
Back at the beginning of July, East cocoaches Matt Willson and Jayden Eldridge handed over the keys to Derek Ferguson and the young team did not disappoint in their absence. Todd Lockwood will be licking his lips of more success in the forward line after The Roos’ finals chances appear extremely slotting six in the previous clash against the slim, but Steve Wenman’s men would love Cats. to leave a few scars in the final three weeks But the Bulldogs showed even better form of the home-and-away season. It was great to be back at the footy versus the old enemy from the kennel with the weather not too bad either. The senior game was an arm wrestle all day with rusty skills from all concerned after a break from playing and training. East ended with more scoring shots but thankfully the South boys kicked straighter to scratch out a narrow win, sometimes it's good to win ugly. The junkyard dog that is Scotty Enderl won the hard ball all day, Noah Sims was in no way overawed by senior bodies and showed what a talent he is, Ethan Chuck, Kaleb Bowd, Dion S t rat fo rd a n d To d d Re i d rounded out the best players. We'll need to play a lot better to progress at the business end of the season so that's the challenge ahead of us.
V
The ressies played some nice team oriented footy without ever being able to totally get away from a competitive East outfit. Road Runner Elliot Ben outran everyone, Luke Foran continued his stellar season, Josh Smith, Nick Patzel, Jack Gazzard and Mitch Broome played well. The thirds won by 18 goals as did the U16s so there is plenty of talent around the club. Let's hope we can all stay on the track and finish the season without any further interruptions.

After a few weeks uncertainty, it was good to get everyone back on Vansittart Park v Millicent. Crowd numbers were down, but those that were there managed to have a good day supporting, with plenty of banter, drinking and eating (in masks sitting down of course).
In the seniors we had a few out, and a few back, and after a long layoff we were a bit unsure how w e ' d g o . Tu r n s o u t t h e y produced one of their better games and results for the year to cement our position in the 4. We had yet another debutant in Tom Flett who knocked the door down in the reserves and shows how much opportunity has been available this year, which should stand us in good stead in future years. A couple of old stagers carried us across the line, with a cagey McConnell kicking 5 and Scott Flett best player. Other best players were Nick McInerney, Jake Schutz, Mitch Whan and Sam Stafford. I apologise to the Millicent players if they had cold showers, which must be why they didn't get across to the club? The reserves first half cost themselves dearly and despite outscoring the opposition in the 2nd half it was too little, too late and will now make it difficult for them to get into the finals. Best players were Ciaran Buckley, Zach Clark, Ben Tremelling (4 goals), Nick Mark, Tim Scarth and Karl Spedding.
Yellow & Black Millicent side. Best players were Jack O'Connor, Adam ProsperiPorta, Elijah Firth, Ben Braithwaite, Brody Allison (3 goals) and Edward New. The boys are starting to get their best team together with an eye on the finals. The U16s got away ok before struggling to hit the scoreboard after quarter time. Best players were Jayk Norman, Darcy Arthurson, Mackye Baron, Seb Doody, Reece McLaughlin and in a great return to footy after a nasty injury, Zach Nulty. In a ripping game of footy, the U14s got over the line by a couple of goals. There will be senior footballers coming from the team if we can keep them around. Do yourself a favour and get to the footy early to see their skills on show. Best players were Jackson Driver, Aaron Dally, Iowani Coleman, Zac Cordell, Cooper Turner and Luca Roulstone. This week we are back to Round 13 v South at BLSP which will be a test for all grades. We need to make every post a winner going forward as who knows what the rest of the season will bring? Preparation for our Auction is in full swing, so make sure you get a table together, or get on a table for Friday 27 August 2021. This is our major fundraiser for the year and is always a good night. Millicent Red, Black & White I decided to go to a gym and there were people everywhere! Why are there so many people? Why is everyone so concerned with their health? Wasn't there supposed to be an obesity crisis? Right, well hopefully I can get a locker. Nope. The ones I thought were empty have stuff in there but there are no padlocks on them. No wonder, the guys who do that probably aren't scared of people stealing their stuff, they could crush a man’s head with a single fist Look at that guy! I had no idea a single shoulder held hundreds of different muscles! Surely that’s overkill right? Do chicks dig that? I’m going to say ‘no’ to protect my ego Right, I can do this, anxiety is already creeping in but I got my music. "Eye of the ger" baby Looks like most of the machines are being used. What are you doing? Whoa- maybe I shouldn't ask. I'll just walk up and down looking casual un l something’s free to use I know, I’ll go to that corner with the free weights. Pump some iron. Man, this isn't enough! I should be doing squats and bench presses and deadli s like the real men over there. Not these weights, what are they? 12kg, ahh Christ, you can do be er than that 18kg, that’s about right… Nope, Christ they're heavy Back to 12kg If 70% of ge ng jacked is diet, what in the good lord are those guys ea ng? They must blend whole chickens enough to be injected directly into their veins Ohh, we’ve got a grunter. I can hear him through my headphones. I wish I had the confidence to grunt in the gym…that’s when you know you've made it He has more veins on his head than I do in my wrists…he’s going red, surely this is dangerous I should move away from the

blast radius before he explodes Look at this guy, he’s wearing more clothes than I would outside. Gym ghts, two pairs of shorts, two hoodies, gloves and a hat. Am I underdressed for the gym? Right, don't get distracted, keeping li ing weights your pathe c excuse for a human being! C’mon you can do be er than that. You’re a weak li le man and this will make you be er! Keep going un l you can't do anymore! Ahh no more, if I keep li ing things, I’m going to vomit or poo myself - maybe both I can't do that with all these beau ful people here Look at her, I mean I’m sorry but people shouldn't be that good looking. Not fair on the rest of us normal’s What kind of gym would I be happy in I wonder? Gym full of old people maybe God you’re insecure, you need to sort your stuff out Wait, that’s what I’m trying to do! I’m at the bloody gym, this morning I ate a protein bar, why has nothing changed? I’M BORED! It must have been at least a solid gym hour by now… IT'S BEEN 12 MINUTES!!! I forgot me moves slower here, it's like listening to missus talk about the Batchelor When is it acceptable to leave? Maybe I should go over to the bench press area — hell, that guy is literally screaming whilst he exercises. I can't go over there. He looks like he might kill me a er his set just out of sheer gym excitement Sheepishly punch the punching bag near the entrance Right, solid workout Un l next week! Are we playing footy or Netball today, I have no idea Cat Fans, if we are at Island Park, well i'm still probably sitting at home having a cuppa out the back hoping to hear the Cats victory song from up on my hill. Is anyone else sick of this Covid stuff? i've had both my jabs and as far as I know haven't been within Coo-ee of someone with Covid. A season and a half of footy down the drain and no end in sight, Crikey!

Heres cheers to the WBFL for sticking by the Cats these last two seasons and giving us every opportunity to compete. Welcome over the Border to East and thank you for getting yourselves over the border, and giving our players the opportunity to feel normal for a few hours. Lastly thank you to the committed volunteers who make the effort to make all this happen, Carn Cats!
7 goals to zip. Milo popped into the pub during the week and he said best 3rd quarter of football played by East in a long time. He said another 10 things but that’s what I remembered the most. The The under 14s were fist up and the last quarter was the same and East day didn’t get and warmer with ran at easy victors. Well done the pups going own by a point. No boys. hot shower can fix that feeling. Best players were Bruce, Lawrence Social sides of things seen the auction and mouse cup join up & McCracken. Bad luck boys. together for the night. Around Under 16s wasn’t so close. With $14,000 was raised and what a the ground getting chopped up good night it was. The final was pretty well from the game before taken out by the netball girls with our kids could only manage 1 their mouse just been to quick on major. Best players were Clarke, the night. Last week the East Gambier faithful made its way over to the north. And didn’t the tigers turn it on for us. 6.3 degrees with rain Yep one of those days.
How good were the Olympics though, locked down watching Tessa Lavey and Kathr yn Mitchell give their all and we hope that the spirit they showed will be shown by our Cats today. The Canteen is open for all that are able to attend and Jarrad Smith is playing his 150th game today for the Club, not sure what is on the go after the game but I am hoping that the clubrooms are open so a few can get along for teas and the presentations of awards.

B grade results were good for East and finally a taste of success for the day. With a forward line that most AFL teams would dream of the dogs got over the line by 5 goals. Travis Younger kicked 5 Nugget Ransom kicked a couple, and best players were Josh Waites and Trav gave himself the Car spa award in second. I’m thinking his car must of needed a wash.
2.30pm come last week and the A grade were into in. The boys started well kicking 3 goals to basically nothing in the 1st. In the second north kicked 3 and we kicked 1 and we had a game on our hands. So like most things in my life, I left as I was getting frustrated with everything even the colour of north’s jumper. While I was cutting up a salad for the 2021 mouse cup the boys had a big 3 rd term kicking

FOOTY JENS HOTEL
WITH Of the long list of country footballers to ply their trade in the Limestone Coast, few enjoyed the success of South Gambier star Leroy Capewell. Across over 450 games and 1000 goals, the dependent defender turned fantastic forward reached the holy grail 11 times in a decorated career. Ten of those flags took place at Blue Lake Sports Park making Capewell one of the club’s greats and he became familiar with the surroundings from an early age. A sports-loving five-year-old ran onto the footy field alongside his brother and cousin for the Demons and the friendly competition against his mates struck a chord straight away. Despite all the success to come, Capewell did not finish on the winning side too much during his junior days and was not even given the chance to play Under 18’s due to a lack of numbers. After being thrown into the Reserves outfit, he was handed an A Grade debut at the end of the 1980’s, but said the setup was far from the finest in the league. “We were a very ordinary club when it came to success and were near the bottom,” Capewell said. “We didn't have a great deal of leadership and just went through the motions, accepting defeat all of the time. ‘We only won seven or eight of my first 50 games.” Capewell said the introduction of Peter Sims was the transformation the club was crying out for to turn itself around. “When Peter came to us in 1991, we started training three nights a week and we were thinking ‘why are we doing this’,” he said. “He had us training two weeks after the grand final and pushed us to put a huge amount of effort in.” After landing some big-name re c r u i t m e nt s ahead of the 1992 season, Capewell said a p l e a s i n g p e r fo r m a n c e a g a i n s t Millicent put the team on the right track. “We won our
first few games and played Millicent on a Sunday and they were five goals up at three-quarter time, but we won,” he said. “That gave us some belief and then we beat a physical Casterton team by two points and that was when the penny dropped for us to think we could have a chance to play finals for the first time which was beyond our wildest dreams.” Capewell said the Demons thrived off their nervous energy to break the team’s 18-year premiership drought. “It (the grand final) was a close game until half time and then we blew the margin out which was a blessing because only a handful of us had played in a senior grand final before,” he said. “We were told to make the most of our opportunities because you never know how many finals you will play.” The breakthrough win paved the way for South to dominate the next decade of Western Border football. The Demons won eight flags across the next 10 years including a five-peat to finish the 20th century in style. “We were a very well-drilled outfit and every individual had a job to do,” Capewell said. “We had a lot of depth and everyone was on the same wavelength.” At this stage, Capewell was an established member of the senior team, but did not enter the forward line until 1996. He said the switch was only made to help team balance and found it hard kicking goals rather than defending them initially. “We needed a bit more versatility after losing the 1995 grand final when we were favourites,” Capewell said. “We were probably too predictable and not mixing it up, so we moved a few blokes around. “Even through the first few years I was thrown back a couple of times which kept me hungry. “It is definitely a lot harder playing in the forward line than the backline because you might only get 15 to 20 opportunities to get the ball. “But I realised you had to put in 120% into every contest, so you really had to set an example.” Capewell found his niche in 1997 to become the competition’s leading goal kicker, but he took his game to another level one year later. He was unstoppable during the successful 1998 season, bringing up the much-celebrated century of goals against East Gambier. Capewell said he will never forget the crazy day he reached triple figures. “We were all aware and it was the third last game of the season at East,” he said.
CAPEWELL “I kicked it at the highway end, but then I then broke my ankle going up for a mark straight afterwards and didn’t play until the preliminary finals.” Despite sitting on top of the Western Border world, Capewell made the biggest decision of his career to take over the coaching reigns at Nangwarry. It proved to be a master stroke as the Saints marched to their last of four flags in his first year. Capewell finished his Saints’ stint on a high kicking an even 100 goals in 2001 before returning to South to fulfill his career ambition of coaching at Blue Lake Sports Park. He said he initially found the elevation daunting, but the commitment paid off after collecting a premiership with both teams. “It (the move to Nangwarry) was a new challenge and it was a goal of mine to get an opportunity to coach at South, which eventuated,” Capewell said. “I was very nervous at the start because it is not an easy thing to do because you are coaching the whole club. “When I came back to South, coaching had improved my communication and leadership. “You are not just thinking about the next game, but also the next year.” But Capewell’s stint only lasted three years after he thought “it was time” to step away. The courageous decision to give up the “50-week job” prolonged his career long enough for the veteran to play key parts in South’s 2005 and 09 triumphs as a new wave of talent came through. After a rare grand final loss to North in 2012, Capewell knew it was time to hang up the boots to enjoy his two sons rise through the ranks. Despite all the success, Capewell never thought about taking his career to Adelaide or beyond and “would not change a thing” living in the country. But his time in the game is far from finished. Capewell coached Port MacDonnell for a couple of years and has returned to the footy field this year. After years of performing in the red and white, Capewell is now wearing the green as an umpire and has already made an unexpected A Grade Western Border debut. There is no doubt the dominant Demon forward is one of the region’s greatest servants to the game.

Lucy was also a key member of the 2021 SA Country Championship winning 17 & under Western Border team. Lucy was also announced as the vice captain for the South Australian 17 & Under State netball team and now for the second year running, the na onal championships have been cancelled - the 2021 cancelled just days before the teams were due to fly out to Tasmania. MATCH REPORTS SOUTH GAMBIER V EAST GAMBIER Given teams have barely played over the past month, a rusty opening quarter was to be expected and both South Gambier, at home, and East Gambier, spent the opening minutes of the match dus ng off the cobwebs but in the end it was all about supply and East Gambier created enough turnover ball to ensure they were in control at quarter me with a seven goal buffer. The strong driving of Emily Hunter and connec on between Tenille Gray and Amryn Bosko was more impressive as the quarter wore on and improved even more in the second as the Bulldogs took a 14 goal lead into the main break. Hunter, Tyne Bosko, Lisa Fyfe and Bo Creek made life tough for the South frontline, not just with clean intercepts but also by pressuring every pass and denying access to the circle’s edge. The ability of Lara Munro to convert her opportuni es and her willingness to do the work required to shake off Fyfe was pivotal in keeping the Demons in touch, as was the defensive efforts of Brandi Bouchier and Ellie Bouchier, who were constantly faced with the ball at speed but s ll managed to be disrup ve at mes. It was the third quarter where the scoreboard damage was done as East took that 15 minutes with a 24-9 scoreline, with Gray shoo ng 17 straight and Amryn Bosko conver ng seven from eight. Again the defensive efforts of the Bulldogs created those opportuni es and in the final quarter, which finished at 10all saw the intensity disappear from the contest with the final scoreline 66-37. For South the Bouchier defensive combina on con nues to shoulder a
heavy workload and rises to the occasion, while Renee Pluckhahn in centre is a hard worker who has an impact at both ends of the court. The ba le between Tyne Bosko and Alyssa Duncan was one of the nest on the day as two of the rising stars of the compe on both had their moments, while Munro would haver to be high in the club’s best and fairest coun ng in her debut A Grade season. For the Bulldogs, there is no weakness – at the moment it is about consistency of performance and just trying to regain the momentum of the early rounds, given the disrup on to the season, and while Kate Dempsey easily holds her own in the top grade, East is also close to welcoming back Tarsh McCallum from injury. NORTH GAMBIER V MILLICENT In the final wash up, the clash between North Gambier and Millicent is a tough analysis. A compe ve opening half saw Millicent with a 10 goal half me lead and for the most part looked in control. In the third quarter they blew the game apart and given the Saints scraped to a two goal victory the last me the two met in 2021, at three quarter me the scoreline was reminiscent of scorelines of seasons’ past with a 16 goal buffer and no reason to assume it was set to be another 20-plus goal loss. But the Tiger had other ideas and a 20-9 final quarter onslaught saw the final margin at six goals. The ques on now is, who are the real Saints and who are the real Tigers? What we do know is both sides have game plans that revolve around ge ng the ball in the hands of their tall shooters and both delivered at the weekend. Millicent’s Tabatha Sanderson ne ed 50 from 55 and Caroline Davey converted 46 from 48 and the final quarter in some ways shows how important both are –
DENTON’S
Sanders suffered from lack of s u p p l y, n e n g seven from nine, while Davey had her best supply of the game and shot 18 straight. One thing North might want to take note of, is the selec on of Teneille Barry by the opposi on as one of the two best players on the court, despite only joining the contest at half me. Ini ally on the defensive wing, where she is a ght checking harassing player, and then on the a acking wing in the last where she found great connec on with Davey. In fact, in the end, it was the mid court ba les where the game was essen ally won and lost with Lucy Denton and centre for Millicent and Lisa Duldig, on her preferred defensive wing, named Millicent’s best. That duo made feeding into the North shoo ng circle and as a consequence Porta McRae and Hannah Nitschke’s jobs were made a li le easier in terms of denying scoring opportuni es for the Tigers. It is also safe to say the intensity North brought to the last quarter needs to be a four quarter mission and the defensive pressure they applied across the court will need to become part of their DNA for the full 60 minutes if they want to challenge in the finals, because the final 15 minutes of the weekend showed just what they are capable of when at their best. Casterton Sandford v West Gambier – pending given current ever changing COVID 19 restric ons
ROUND 13 PREVIEW SOUTH GAMBIER V NORTH GAMBIER A er le ng last weekend’s clash with Millicent get out of control in the third quarter and then moun ng an impressive comeback that fell five goals short, North Gambier will be looking for consistency this weekend against South Gambier. The mid court of Mel Renko, Brianna Walters, Teneille Barry and Lauren Buddle has yet completely find its mojo and will no doubt use this week to trial a couple of combina ons with finals just around the corner. The Tigers centre court payers will not have it all their own way with the hard running Renee Pluckhahn, who contests everything, certain to make life tough and Alyssa Duncan using her smarts to find the circle’s edge and deliver the ball safely. Last weekend, South defenders Brandi Bouchier and Ellie Bouchier tackled a moving goal circle but this week it is back to denying a tall shooter too much ball and so they will be looking to work together to shut down the me and space for Caroline Davey, who con nues to be such a weapon for the Tigers, with her strength on the hold and accuracy. The challenge for Ellie Bouchier will be heading back to the post to play help defence but also not let Ellen Brown run around with no pressure as her speed and accurate passing perfectly complements Davey. The South a ack line will be looking to work their way through the defence of Maddie Whaites and Noni McConnell and will no doubt look to exploit their height advantage, as well as the long range accuracy of Lara Munro. North should secure a comfortable victory but will be looking for a four quarter performance with no lapses, despite the tenacity of the young Demons.
CASTERTON SANDFORD V EAST GAMBIER Last me Casterton Sandford and East Gambier met, the scoreline ended up lopsided but the Cats showed just how far the young group has come with a really strong performance and they would be looking to build on that effort. And despite being undefeated, the Bulldogs would be looking to really start pu ng their foot down in the lead up to finals.
WEST GAMBIER V MILLICENT West Gambier has already challenged Millicent both mes this season but a quarter lapse here, or a poor 10 minutes there and the Saints have been able to secure the premiership points in both ou ngs. So close to finals, this becomes a cri cal clash for both.
East may well welcome back Tarsh McCallum and they will welcome back the classy wing a ack, who has such a strong connec on with the East frontline, especially long me team mate Tenille Gray and her injec on back into the line-up will be cri cal. You add McCallum to a frontline that includes the compe on’s best mid courter Emily Hunter, alongside Gray and Amryn Bosko, who is smart, composed and accurate and the young Cats defensive line will be tested but Claire Foster, Ebany Jarrad and Caeleigh Humphries are always up for the fight and they will contest everything from the first to the last whistle. At the other end of the court, Bo Creek, Lisa Fyfe and Tyne Bosko never let up and all three can play a close checking game as well as go hun ng for the intercep on.
West is coming off no game at the weekend so already their match fitness has been hampered a er basically more than a month without a tough hit out, while Millicent had the game against North Gambier under control last weekend and then went to sleep in the last quarter to see a 16 goal advantage dissipate to just five at the final whistle.
The Cats frontline, of Tori Broomby, Paige Murrell and Scarle Jarrad are experienced and with the likes of Zhane Crawford and Makayla Hutchins bringing young legs to the frontline and a willingness to just keep running, the Cats know they will need to be pa ent to work their way through the East defence and avoid coughing the ball up. East wins but the Cats, who will be hampered by a disrupted prepara on due to l o c kd o w n , w i l l m a ke t h e e a r n t h e premiership points.
The bad news for the Roos is the Saints will be looking correct that lapse with an uncompromising four quarter effort. There are en cing match ups all over the court – young Millicent defender Por a McRae looking to curb fellow young gun Sarah Ri er; Hannah Nitschke looking quell the influence of team general Lisa McGregor; Lisa Duldig marshalling the Millicent defensive third and looking to deny Carlee Ransom easy access to the circle’s edge; Lucy Denton and Tara Bryant going head to head as two of the best young midcourters in the compe on; Paige Nitschke using her ming and clever delivery to work her way around tenacious Roos wing defender Nikiesha Facey; Amy Cram, who runs the Roos defensive unit, looking to deny Demi Verbena, who has built a strong combina on with Tabatha Sanderson with her precise delivery; and Jade Ri er taking on Sanderson and looking to deny her those shots close to the post. The start will be cri cal as you get the feeling Millicent is ready to start really building into another finals series but West is not far away and know if they can test the Saints for even longer this weekend maybe the scoreline will finally be reversed.

It was an interesting return to minimal and her best is amazing netball complete with all the four and match changing. She is a multi premiership player and has a best seasons... in court in a grand final on her We celebrated two milestones on resume and she is a much loved the day - the supremely talented team member because of her no Ellie Bouchier who plays 17 & fuss approach. She has a stack of Under and is in her debut A Grade individual club accolades and season played her 100th game and when it is her time to help out in a while I know she is probably sick of volunteer role she always rolls up hearing it, we are all loving she is her sleeves and when it is time to playing circle defence with her glam up for a club event she is also mother Brandi. Again on Saturday in the running for best on. It was their defensive efforts sae them great to be able to share her among the team's best performers milestone with her whole family in a tough contest with the courtside - well there was no undefeated Bulldogs. A Grade North 52 vs Millicent 57 A slow start showed at the end of the first quarter with us down by 5. The next two quarters saw small mistakes allow the opposition to control the game. However, the fourth quarter was definitely our best with an 11 goal turn around. Good movement down court was rewarded in the goal circle. Caroline Davey 46 from 47. This quarter showed what we are capable of, a good team effort.
Yellow & Black off the game. There were a number of great passages of play and stops in defence. Plenty of positives to take from the game despite the final score. Best players- Alice and Alysha. Under 15A North 15 vs Millicent 40 Was not our best performance and i know you girls have got a lot more in you. All credit to those Millicent girls, they are an amazing unit. Our defence was solid, keeping them to under 40 goals, a first for them this season. Well done. There were some great passages out of defence down the court, let's keep working on that and lift for next week. Awards: Stella and Tenielle Under 15B North 18 vs Millicent 29 The girls had a tough game against well matched Millicent side. All of them played their part, it was just little mistakes that we still need to work on. A lot of positives going forward. Best Players: Sarah Brown abs Gabby Maldari
A Reserve North 55 vs Millicent 59 The games started evenly and both teams had some early turnovers. Millicent went to the break, up by 3. The second quarter saw North play seamless netball with very few errors. They lifted their defensive pressure and converted their goals, shooting accurately. The third quarter saw Millicent lift their intensity and create turnovers. Millicent we able to score quickly and easily whilst keeping safe possession. North ended up going down by 4 Under 13A goals in the top of the table clash. North 29 vs Millicent 40 Tough slippery conditions for the B Grade team but a great opportunity to North 31 vs Millicent 47 test ourselves against a Not a great result but Millicent challenging opposition. Terrific definitely came to play and shooting percentage from all showed why they are sitting in top goalies. Lots to work on over next the ladder. We kept with them for few weeks especially minimising the first half, but a few lapses saw replays & stepping errors. Awards: them extend their lead. Abbey, Claire & Maggie. Elyse and Brianna tried hard all game in defence while Keeley Under 13B found her aggression with pulling North 20 vs Millicent 29 in some tough balls in the goal circle. Hoping we get to play them The girls had a tough loss to again soon. Awards: Abbey and Millicent. They worked very hard but after a few weeks off struggled Keeley. to get into the flow of the game early. Some great patches of play C Grade happened throughout the match, North 33 vs Millicent 39 and we look to grow on this come An absolutely fabulous effort from South this weekend. The girls are the girls to go down by only 6, as becoming great players with good last time we played Millicent we ability to read the play. As always, lost by 23. Really proud of the way we are very proud of their efforts! the girls work hard to combat the challenging defence, the gap got Under 11 out to 8 as Millicent stepped up North 9 vs Millicent 22 their intensity. Credit to the girls as they came home strong to win the The girls did a good job today last quarter. We'll done, looking reacquainting themselves with n et b a l l af te r a l o n g b re a k . forward to playing them again. Millicent are a skilled team and we did a better job of keeping up with Under 17's them today. Weather wasn't to North 21 vs Millicent 74 our advantage, but We had lots of U/17 The girls had a tough game p o s s e s s i o n s a n d p l e n t y o f against a very strong Millicent opportunity so will have to work side. We were very excited to be back playing as a team after a few weeks off & come back to a great contest against South. Lisa Fyfe was outstanding in the defence end as was tenille in the attack line and both were awarded best players for their efforts.
A little slow to start, but we got into the game and put it all together. Jordy ran the centre superbly and had great feeding into the goalies with accurate vision. Tahlia has one of her best games on the defensive wing - turning over numerous balls and sending it back into goalies. Ambah drove hard with lovely front cuts in the goal circle and finished with some lovely shooting. overall a great team effort and was good to be back playing after 3 weeks off. keep working hard girls
After a good 4 weeks off due to COVID restrictions. We knew we were gonna be rough coming back onto the court! We worked through each quarter hard and south made us work for every ball. With a couple changes in the last quarter bringing on u17s Issy Lamb and u15s Indi Dwyer both girls played their hearts out and played so hard! As a team we played well considering the break. Very proud of the girls and their efforts.
The Western Border Netball Association has made a commitment to developing umpiring and coaching stocks in the competition and COVID has done nothing but throw up roadblocks to ensuring that development has been difficult in the past 18 months. Last year there was no opportunity to assess umpires and allow them to secure a badge but we have managed to have six umpires secured that C Badge accreditation in the past month. A huge congratulations to Lauren Cleary (Casterton Sandford); Rachel Jamieson (Casterton Sandford;
Gemma Hunt (East Gambier); Alex Quick (East Gambier); Amy Cram (West Gambier) and Tracy McShane (South Gambier). H av i n g s i x u m p i re s badged in one season is a record for the association and one we are proud of. For those still looking to be assessed we will be m a k i n g t h e u m p i re development a priority again in 2021 as well as t h e c o a c h i n g development which will also be easier once COVID restrictions stop interfering.

Playing so composed meant our confidence in each other grew and we pulled away a few goals and maintained this lead to take our first win. I am very proud of you all, but I'm not surprised with the win, you are all more than capable to hold your own this season. I am glad you were rewarded for your hard work!
After a very scatty first quarter - it was obvious that we hadn't played for a few weeks. Remember that we need to put the effort into our warm up as this is taken into the game. We settled and found our groove in the 2nd quarter Tonique had a great game in defense and was backed up by Grace controlling the defensive circle. Lille Lamb had a great game at WA and really put in a top effort to bring the ball down and feed her goalies and Ambah controlled the shooting circle superbly. Lets stay focused here and work hard at trainings as we approach the final series.
