The Community Advisory Group would like to thank Drexel University for their contribution to help neighborhoods reduce sexually transmitted diseases and the Philadelphia CARS Project. Three Drexel Students (Khadydra Hazzard, Barry Grave and Melesa Khan) elected to volunteer 20 hours per week for six months to partner with YOACAP and support the Philadelphia CARS Project. Each student has been assigned duties related to evaluating each aspect of the project including our partners, interventions, community engagement methods, and how our project helps residents with incarceration issues, employment, and education opportunities. They are part of a team, which includes YOACAP staff, CAG members, partners, and other volunteers. We invite you to to be part of the Community Advisory Group or to volunteer for the CARS project and help us reach our mission! For more information, call 215.851.1968.

DELIVERANCE ACE PROGRAM The North Philadelphia/Nicetown Community Advisory Group is proud to acknowledge one of our educational partners: Harcum University and their Deliverance Ace Program. This program allows interested individuals to attend class two nights per week to earn an Associates Degree in Human Services, Law & Justice, Leadership or Early Childhood Education. The class schedule is flexible and affordable! Classes are held at Deliverance Evangelistic Church at 21st & Lehigh Avenue in North Philadelphia. To ask any questions that you may have or to find out about enrollment, please contact Gail Pryor at 267.269.5305, or by email: gppowergroup7@gmail.com. Ms. Pryor and her winning team will come out to your community meeting and do a 10 minute presentation about this wonderful opportunity. When you call her, please mention CODE RED which lets her know that you received the information from our community advisory group. If you have any other questions about any of our educational partners (GED, College Prep, etc.), feel free to call 215.851.1968.

I LOVE MY FRIEND I was talking to one of my friends who I have known since middle school. She told me that her dude never gets tested for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). He waits for her to get tested, and if she is okay then he thinks he’s okay. The only problem is I saw him last week on his creep jawn, all hugged up, down 30th Street. The first thing I thought is “he should be getting tested for STDs every six months, especially if he’s messing with other females.” He could get Herpes, Trich, Chlamydia, or worse. I’m going to meet up with her to let her know what I saw, but I am also going to suggest that she gets tested regularly. I’ll tell her to call YOACAP at 215.851.1968 to schedule a time to get tested. I’ll even mention that YOACAP can come to her home to test her confidentially. Do you have friend in this situation? If so tell them to call YOACAP.

EVERYONE NEEDS A HELPING HAND Life can be difficult and scary, but YOACAP is here to help! We offer STD testing six days a week. Every Monday, we have Job Readiness Workshops where we help develop resumes and provide you with job opportunities. We can assist people with getting GED’s and provide computer classes as well! If you are interesting in going to college or taking college courses, we can help you get started! YOACAP is only a phone call away; call 215.851.1968 if you need a helping hand. We are here for you. We will even travel to you and provide workshops at your home or site! Don’t miss out on this resource; we know life can sometimes be rough, but we want to help you in any way that we can, so give us a call!
