STDS TRAVEL IN PAIRS Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) travels in pairs. In Philadelphia, many men and women may be infected. Some symptoms include discharge, stomach pains, pain when urinating, or a strong odor. Depending on the STD, some men and women do not have any symptoms. The best way to find out if you have an STD is to be tested every six months. YOACAP provides free STD testing at its office, mobile unit, and even at your house in some circumstances. To find out where the YOACAP mobile unit will be parked throughout Philadelphia or to schedule an appointment in YOACAP’s office or at your home, please call 215-851-1968.

SPECIAL THANKS TO DREXEL For the past six month, several Drexel students majoring in finance worked at YOACAP’s office as a part of Drexel’s co-op program. Zitong Cao and Minchen Wang are sophomores at Drexel, they worked with the Executive Director, the UAC Fiscal Department, with YOACAP’s account receivable. We would like to say a special thank you to Drexel University and the two students for working 20 hours a week, being consistent & working extremely hard with our program.

MORE THAN A SUMMER JOB This past summer, YOACAP partnered with the Department of Human Services (DHS), the Philadelphia Youth Network (PYN) and the Urban Affairs Coalition (UAC) to provide summer work experience for all the teens in YOACAP’s afterschool program, Project Build. These teens worked at real estate offices, day care facilities, summer camps, beauty salons and other locations to gain valuable work experience. Youth earned $7.25 per hour and work approximately 20 hour per week for six weeks this summer. Our goal was to provide safe and positive activities during the summer month. As part of their summer project, the youth developed a plan to save the money that they earned from their jobs. At the end of the six weeks, YOACAP youth participated with over 800 kids as part of the UAC’s summer work experience to display their group projects to their peers. There were many special invited guests, including several elected officials and many key stakeholders in Philadelphia. We are very proud our young people for successfully completing their summer work experience and their summer project. We wish them luck during their upcoming school year.
