University Library
Graz, Austria
Atelier Thomas Pucher
Existing Situation
An existing extension from the 70s forms a bottleneck at one of the most signifcant areas of the Campus.
Entrance
By removing the 70s building and the connection between the original library and the main building new routes and axes are created. A new plaza connects all routes and provides a generous situation with a strong urban quality. The original library is brought clear and fnally visible after so many years.

New Foyer
A new atrium between the main building and the library forms a new entrance and central connection with the main building. The atrium can be used as lounge, reading room or venue for events and presentations.
Ensemle
The new reading hall is fnally placed above the existing structure as a fying reading carpet. An agile balance and interaction is created between the many different styles and types of buildings. History in itself creates a magnifold, intense urban ensemble.
