Established by Maria Claudia Clemente and Francesco Isidori in Rome in 2002, the architecture and urban planning frm Labics – a name that embodies the concept of a laboratory, a testing ground for advanced ideas – has been combining a theoretical approach with applied research for over twenty years now, extending its range of interest across different projects scales and complexities from interiors and urban masterplans to exhibition spaces (temporary and otherwise) and public spaces. Very active on the front of design competitions, both national and international, the frm has made a name for itself over the years – receiving numerous awards for its work – for its focus on certain specifc research issues such as participation, public space, voids, grids, fows and connections between various parts of cities.
