BATUMI BOULEVARD

Batumi Boulevard is one of the main attractions for the town’s visitors. The wide boulevard follows the seaside and is full of beach bars, café-lounges, restaurants, amusement rides for children and various colorful and dancing fountains. In addition to unique vegetation, you will find in Batumi Boulevard many interesting sculptures and architectural monuments. Batumi Boulevard has a history of over a century. Its construction began in 1881.

Its creation was the idea of Batumi district governor Mekalov, who commissioned the coastal boulevard to be built to a famous Prussian gardener named Reseller. Later, the planned development of the boulevard was

handed over to a French gardener and designer invited to Georgia, Mikheil d’Alphonse, who is referred to in historical records as the “Kind Genie of Batumi Seaside”.

The development of the boulevard also owes much to Gordeziani, who studied in France and was appointed the manager of the City Park Boulevard in 1917. The first colorful dancing fountains of the Boulevard have been functioning since 1977. In 2009, the length of the Boulevard was significantly increased and now reaches 7 kilometers. The so-called New Boulevard was designed by a Spanish architect and built in accordance with the latest standards.

8- Kakhetian wine towns

The whole region of Kakheti is famous for its wineries. If you are confused and don’t know where to go, we’d recommend you to visit at least one or two of those sites: Telavi with its medieval fortress and 900-yearold sycamore, Ikalto Academy – alma mater of Shota Rustaveli, Alaverdi monastery and its wine cellar, Tsinandali and house-museum of Georgian poet Alexander Chavchavadze (wine cellar is still in the mansion!), Kvareli and wine tunnel there, or Sighnaghi, city of love, which is famous not just for wine, but also for well preserved city walls and monastery Bodbe.

During this period, a series of paintings depicting the stories of Central Asia were created, and throughout his life the artist would return to this theme many times. 1912-17 Sommer’s traveled to Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. The history, existence and types of the Caucasus become an important theme of his work. He lived in Georgia for some time. In 1939, Sommer was deported from Georgia together with other members of the German colony, and his trace is lost. R. Sommer’s work is characterized by the popular desire for oriental themes for this period. He is attracted by the exoticism of Eastern existence, the charm of bustling bazaars and shadowy corners of old cities, life scenes, steppe landscapes, etc. The creative mastery of the artist is characterized by the special sound of the animated effects of light and shade and color.

Gabriel Schachinger (1850-1912).

Bavarian royal court painter. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. 1876-78 He studied in Italy with the funding of the Bavarian government.

He worked in the genre of portrait, still life, and created genre compositions. His most famous painting is the portrait of the Bavarian king Ludwig II of Bavaria, made in 1887.

A young woman sitting in a chair is depicted in a 3/4 perspective, who seems to have stopped reading a book for a moment and is gazing at her expressive gaze. The model is wearing a dark blue draped dress with white lace detailing.

Stefan Bakalowicz (1857-1947).

was born in Warsaw. 1876-81 He studied at the St. Petersburg Art Academy. His work was greatly influenced by the school of Jan Matejko. He lived in Rome from 1883. In 1886, he was awarded the title of academician of historical painting.

THE ONE DRINK YOU NEED TO KNOW AND TRY, WHEN VISITING GEORGIA

Chacha is a Georgian pomace brandy, a clear and strong (ranging between 40% alcohol for commercially produce to 65% for home brew), which is sometimes called “wine vodka”, “grape vodka”, or “Georgian vodka/grappa”. It is made of grape pomace (grape residue left after making wine). The term chacha is used in Georgia to refer to grape distillate. It may be also produced from unripe or wild grapes.

Georgian chacha

Nestled in the heart of the Caucasus region of Eurasia between the Black Sea and the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range, Georgia has a climate that is perfect for grape cultivation. One of the world’s oldest wine producing regions, grapes are thought to have first appeared in the country as far back nearly 8,000 years. Grape cultivation and wine making are therefore a significant part of Georgia’s history and culture, and continue to play a vital role in the country’s economy. It is not only a rich diversity in wine, however, that Georgia’s vineyards are famous for. Grape cultivation and wine production have also resulted in the development of “chacha” Georgia’s traditional national drink.

Chacha is made from grape skins, or pomace, leftover

from wine production. The skins are a byproduct that most modern wineries toss out, but Georgia cherishes grape skins.

The drink is everywhere in Georgia, from commercial versions in stores, to homemade chachas on dinner tables.

Where to drink chacha in Batumi: Georgia has excellent wine shops, and there are many fancy restaurants to taste artisan chacha if you’re looking for something higher end. one of the best place to drinking best quality of chacha and learning how drinking, it’s “Chacha Time” (5 Giorgi Mazniashvili St, Batumi), one of the old and popular bar in old town of Batumi.

KHULO CABLE CAR ONE OF THE MAIN DESTINATIONS IS KHULO

One of the main destinations is Khulo – cozy and small town which has a beautiful location overlooking the river gorge. It’s 80km from Batumi. You will find some small hotels and restaurants in the town and the cable cars which will take you to the other slope of the river gorge, village Tago where you can sit and enjoy breathtaking views.

Within a three-hour drive from Batumi, in Ajarian mountains, a little village exists that will absolutely take your breath away from first sight.

This tiny village connects to the outer world by the Khulo cable car, which is known to be the fastest way of transportation from Khulo to the village named Tago. This cable car is the second-longest free span cable car in Europe.

This cable car is unique in its kind. The Khulo cable car was built in 1985 and has a length of 1.919 meters. The entire road, from Khulo to Tago, does not have a single intermediate pillar. With all this, the road passes at an altitude of 350 meters, over the gorge of the Adjaristskali River.

The cable car works from 9:00AM – 6:00PM When and from where the cable car moves during those hours depends on the number of people who want to use the cable car.

The adventure begins from the first moment you enter the cable car. It might be a bit frightful in the beginning, however, once you take a look at the huge mountains with their tops covered with clouds, you instantly slip into a vastly different world where there is no noise and only clean fresh air. While riding on a cable car, you can get an incredible adrenaline rush, and at the same time enjoy the breathtaking views that will open during this short but exciting journey.

REGIONAL LOGISTICS HUB

WHY INVEST IN GEORGIA?

REGIONAL LOGISTICS HUB

Georgia is in a highly strategic location in that it serves as an entry gate to the Caucasus and Central Asia.

Georgia is a reliable corridor for addressable flows between Caucasus and Europe and between Central Asia and Europe.

This concept is being based on historical Silk Road for centuries that gives Georgia a significant geopolitical role.

Georgian transport economy is transit oriented. Up to 60% of cargo flow in Georgia is transit. Transport

corridors are breathing new life into the ancient trade route between east and west and could reinvigorate Georgian transportation.

In this regard, Georgia is developing a new deep sea port, which is intended to have 100 mln tons capacity; Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project is completed. This railway has a significant importance for the region, because it is intended to connect Georgian and Azerbaijan railways to the Turkish one.

These projects are aimed to increase the main geopolitical asset of Georgia – transit potential.

The western part of China is in a process of rapid development, 53.87 BLN USD is already invested in these regions in airports, roads and energy plants, in next 2 years investments in these regions will reach minimum 114 BLN USD. This is an opportunity for Georgia, as it is a part of Eurasian corridor and the historical Silk Road. The first railway freight transportation from China in the direction of Georgia was carried out. Loading of the transported freight was carried out in China on January 29, 2015 and unloading – on February 6, 2015 in Georgia. The project was carried out by means of close cooperation with the railways of Georgia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan and the province of China - Xinjiang. INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN GEORGIA

REGIONAL LOGISTICS HUB

Deep-Sea Port

Georgia is located on the shortest connecting road of Europe and Asia. The amount of handled cargo in Georgian ports has been significantly increased in last years.

Consequently, the Georgian ports are overloaded; in addition, the depth of the existing ports is not enough to get PANAMAX or VLC types of ships. As a result, there is a necessity of a new deep sea port (Anaklia Port 18-20m natural draft) that will have a strategic location and a potential to resist increasing cargo flows from Europe to Asia and from North to South.

Advantages of this project are strategic location, capacity to receive large vessels, high capacity, opportunities for advanced logistical services and possibilities for creating industrial clusters.

The Government of Georgia intends to select an investor to develop the Anaklia Port on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis pursuant to an agreement to be entered into with the selected Investor. The envisaged term of the BOT arrangement is forty-nine (49) years from the commencement of operation of Phase One of the Anaklia Port.

The port will be constructed in phases:

• The first three phases of construction supposes that within 12 years from commencement of theconstruction, annual turnover in the port will reach at least 40 million tons (on 3rd year at least 7 million tons, on the 7th year at least 20 million tons and on the 12th year at least 40 million tons).

• The 4th phase and each of the next phases shall commence only after the cargo turnover of the port will have reached 90% of capacity existed by that time.

The port will be able to receive a vessel loaded with 6,500 containers.

The Government of Georgia will provide to the Investor with up to one thousand (1,000) hectares of land for the Project and necessary hinterland connections (rail, road, utilities.

The Government of Georgia shall consider the possibility of establishing a free industrial zone (“FIZ”) for the Anaklia Port, further details of which are to be finalized prior to execution of the Investment Agreement.

Containerization & Logistical Centers

Georgia provides significant investment opportunities in the manufacturing sector, which already contributes up to 12% to gross domestic product of the country and, since 2007, has attracted more than $ 1.2 billion in investments.

This is an opportunity for export oriented manufacturing sectors, for which access to the European market would be attractive. Therefore, together with international and local experts, the Government of Georgia is undertaking a deep analysis of competitive sectors in order to find ways of stimulating investment inflows, attracting new technology and knowhow and creating high value-added production in the country.

Georgia is uniquely positioned to capitalize on increasing trade flows between Europe, the Caspian Region, Central Asia and China in the foreseeable future. The country offers the shortest route between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. Georgia’s transport system is a key link in the historic “Silk Road.”

Foreseeing the above mentioned, there is a significant opportunity of development of warehouses, containerization and logistical centers. The total volume of warehouse space in Georgia amounts to around 1.8 million sqm, of which around 1.2 million sqm is

owner- occupied and the remainder is leasable. The largest share of total leasable space is located in Tbilisi - 61%, with 23% -in Batumi 10%-in Poti and 6%- in Rustavi. From the 627,000 sqm of leasable warehouse supply, 89% is dry storage and 11% cold storage.

The total capacity of cold storage amounts to 243,700 tons. A significant proportion of total leasable warehouse floorspace is classified as Class B (59%) and Class C (39%). Only 2% of total leasable warehouse supply in Georgia can be classified as A class space.

The broad categories with the highest occupied space are food and beverage, representing 42% of occupied space in listed warehouses and building materialsoccupying 14% of stock. Distribution companies take up to 13% of space. The average rent for dry storage A class warehouses in Georgia stands at around USD 11 per sqm net of VAT; the same figure for B class warehouses varies between USD 2.3- 4.7 per sqm and for C class warehouses USD 0.5-2.4 per sqm. The average rent for cold storage facilities in Georgia usually varies between USD 14-17 per ton net of VAT, depending on location and warehouse quality.

CHAKAPULI

Here, Chef Elene shares her recipe for Chakapuli.

Chakapuli (Georgian: ჩაქაფული ) is a popular Georgian stew made with lamb or beef, dry white wine, tarragon leaves, unripe (sour) green plums, green onions, green peppers, green coriander, garlic and salt. It is popular in the Spring when the plums are unripe.

Chakapuli is a very popular lamb stew which we traditionally prepare for Easter. It requires tkemali (sour plums), which gives the dish its tangy flavor.
