atino and women’s leadership stems from the conviction to work and strive for the well-being of others. Every week AL DÍA highlights those who contribute to the betterment of the lives of Latinos or the community. In 2021, Esther Aguilera was chosen as the Person of the Year for her work to get 400 Latinos on corporate boards across the United States. This edition tells her story,since the moment she arrived with her family from Jalisco (Mexico) as a child. It highlights her parents’ determination to help her and her five siblings’ commitment to get ahead through education. “We saw from the beginning that school was a path to success and a way out of poverty,” Esther told AL DÍA in an interview. And it was through education that she built her future. She completed a degree in public policy at Occidental College in Los Angeles. Then she settled in Washington D.C. and worked her way up. In her view, it was “a pivotal moment that really changed my trajectory.” In 2016, she became the president and CEO of the Latino Corporate Directors Association (LCDA), an organization of U.S. Latinos at the highest levels of corporate leadership. From there she launched LCDEF Board Ready Institute to prepare and position Latino executives.

l liderazgo latino y femenino parten de la convicción por trabajar y esforzarse por el bienestar de los demás. En AL DIA se destaca cada semana a quienes aportan a las mejores condiciones de vida de los latinos o a poner en alto nivel a la comunidad. En el 2021 se escogió a Esther Aguilera como la Persona del Año por su labor para lograr que 400 latinos estén en consejos de administración de empresas en todo Estados Unidos. En esta edición se cuenta su historia, desde cuando siendo niña llegó con su familia de Jalisco (México). Se destaca el propósito de sus padres de sacarlos adelante a ella y a sus cinco hermanos a partir de la educación. “Vimos desde el principio que la escuela era un camino hacia el éxito y para salir de la pobreza”, le contó Esther a AL DÍA en una entrevista. Y fue a partir de la educación como fue construyendo su futuro. Terminó la licenciatura en política pública en el Occidental College de Los Ángeles. Después se radicó en Washington D.C. y se abrió camino. A su juicio, fue “un momento crucial que realmente cambió mi trayectoria”. En 2016, se convirtió en la presidenta y consejera delegada de la Asociación de Directores Corporativos Latinos (LCDA), una organización de latinos estadounidenses en los niveles más altos de liderazgo corporativo. Desde allí lanzó LCDEF Board Ready Institut, para preparar y posicionar a los ejecutivos latinos.
