Everyone featured within this issue have given interesting, in-depth, honest accounts about themselves, their work, views and ideas. In addition to the amazing images of the work they have produced, which I know you the reader will enjoy and be inspired by.

Thank you to everyone who entered our open call. The cover of this issue features all 52 artists involved in this issue.

“It is popularly said that we invented art as life was not enough and in order to fulfill it or give it purpose, art beautified life. However, is not art life itself? Is it not born fluidly, carries memories, teaches, learns and conducts itself?

Its function, if ever it can be defined cartesianly, is to perpetuate lives. Translate love, pain, struggle, hope, desire and make it tangible and immortal. It is to create an intentional and inexplicable reality. It is to sharpen our sensitivity by bringing feelings and emotions to the surface and conflicting with any and all pre-established views. I would agree with the famous saying and state that one picture translates more than a thousand words. And which words, might you ask? That would be easy. When it comes to art: your own words.

Art is the intentionality of randomness. It is a chance and necessity. Dare to think, my dear readers and artists, what are your

intentions, your needs and how they are transformed by chance into the beauty you introduce to the world. How every artwork changes you and the world. How you translate a poem into a thousand feelings. A scene in a thousand emotions. A painting in a thousand meanings. Hence, we perceive with our heart.

The artist puts their soul into their art. You can feel their emotions, peel their skin, catch their breath and even maybe read their message but you can never see through their eyes and you can never read their minds. That is the beauty of art itself, you will feel it in your bones, it will consume you and your thoughts. The observant will see themselves and who they are, how they feel and what they need. As for the artists, they can call it their movement, their timeframe, abstractism, minimalism, modernism, contemporary, postmodernism, or even call out their own artistic style, but their style, every thought in their minds, is nothing but who they truly are. The diversity of artistic forms represents the diversity of people. Painting, sculpture, music, dance, literature, cinema and theatre are among the traditional forms of art, but what a limited field we would live in if it stopped there. Digital arts, photography, collages, landscaping, interior and furniture design, among many other forms that represent and translate our technological and experimental society. Indeed, art represents the people and with its globalization, it connects people. What a privilege we have to be able to receive such a global magazine and so rich in arts and artists in literally

every corner of the world! What a privilege we have to be able to access art, culture, knowledge and talent with just a few clicks. A path unimaginable for Greeks artists. This easy digital access to cultural and artistic diversity is so common to us that, sometimes, we need to be reminded of how enriching the feeling of leafing through a magazine and of being published by it. Daring times enable daring people. In this issue, when flipping through each page, you feel a different emotion. Artistic expressions of quality and talent, hailing from so many parts of the world and plentiful styles. Let us remember that each one tells a story, each one has a soul. I hope that you, sensitive readers, when opening the magazine, open your heart and imagination and try to capture and experience your sensations in each artwork. Connect with them and feel them.

The covers, front and back, are a curated collection of the souls of individuals who change the world with each artwork and who translate who they are to the public. Each piece of art is a window into the artist’s soul. That shows us that there is a lot of courage in art, in the vanguard, in exposing themselves to readers through their talent. It takes courage, indeed. It also takes courage to live, even more to dream and even more to fulfill your dreams and passions.”

Efthymios P. Pournaras is a surrealist artist working in Athens. His artworks reflect his unusual background and interests. Few artists can boast having a serious scientific education from a variety of intellectual yet radically different scientific fields such as physics, biology, and IT. The strategic combination of the

acquired knowledge helped him to become a leading quantitative analyst, a lonely occupation requiring intense analytical focus and mathematical imagination.

He says his interior world was shaped not just by the abstract algorithms of high statistical modeling but by the Renaissance

paintings in the Athenian galleries and museums as well as the street art that proliferates everywhere in this vibrant city. Having created mixed media figurative works for many years, he says a turning point came with the birth of his niece Kleo.

“When that pure, new soul first turned her gaze on me, I was overwhelmed by the intensity. It gave my art a new direction. Since then, I began working on larger pieces, often featuring children. My sister now has three children, and I find them an endless inspiration.”

Pournaras’ s paintings are highly structured, characterized by symbolic images acting as visual algorithms. He works on canvas mostly utilizing charcoal and acrylics.

Born in Moscow in 1967, and completed my studies at the University of the Russian Academy

for Education, URAO, at the Faculty of Economics and Business. In 2001 I moved to Barcelona.

The desire to paint followed me ever since a young age, but I could only realize my dream in 2008, in Barcelona, where I started to attend painting courses at the Leonardo da Vinci art school. Following, lessons of sumie and drawing on silk. From 2014 to 2017 I took private lessons from Adriana Streijer, Argentinian artist and costume designer. From 2013 I have been studding at the School of Arts El Visor, in Barcelona.

From 2020 I participate in international exhibitions, amongst which in 2023: “Transcendence” –Gallery of Library Angelica, Rome, Art expo Algarve, Portugal. In 2022: “Art between thoughts and spontaneity”- Paks GalleryMunich, Artbox Project - Gallery Urbanside– Zurich, “State of the Art”- Galleria La Pigna - Palazzo MaffeiMarescotti– Rome.

Swanky, eccentric, and original –three adjectives to best describe the artwork of the English artist

Taryn Jahme, which is rich in vibrant colours, playful themes, and abstract compositions of

flowers, animals, and geometric and shapes. Taryn lives in London and writes children’s books which cultivate a passion for tea by teaching its history to her younger students. Above all else, she paints very special teapots capturing historical moments from places all over the world.

MFA degree in 2D Design at Cranbrook Academy of Art. Gao is currently teaching graphic design at the School of Art + Design at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her work has taken many shapes, including free drawing, film photography, poetic writing, installation, and performance. She explores the fantasy of ideal freedom that extracts from the real world and asserts the power of unconsciousness and dreams. This is all about her emotional life of being. My work has been working with emotions. They come from my instincts. Collaboration between the materials and myself happens when we make work together. Materials have their personality. I tend to feel the material first, become familiar with them, then finally work with them to make the work. I like to work with my intuition first and then discover the hidden traces behind it. I am always wondering about the reason each thing happened. Unknowns give me fear, so I need to find the truth. I feel like I’m standing on the edge of the boundary. They are infinite. There are so many unknowns waiting for me to explore. They contain and inspire me to move forward but also increase my fear. I am not creating a form but finding a sense of belonging in these voids.

By twisting my emotions into recognizable shapes, I evoke a fabulous and dream-like reality otherwise dormant.

By juxtaposing human and cosmic or legendary elements I show how our experience of life is surrounded by other hidden lives kept at distance only because of fear of our most rebellious and consolatory dreams.

The outer space and the representation of the universe in its polymorphism is always present in my artworks and is declined following different significances. From the detail to the principal subject, the philosophical research of the universal spacetime, in which the human can assume infinite positions until

the complete self-annihilation, combines with the figurative.

What is our mind if not a wasteland that holds the cosmic power of creation, precisely in its desolation? What does it take to launch the rocket of thought into space? Asks “Starry MindAstroboy”, pictured on the left.

My “personal mythology”, is the ocean of impressions, emotions, metaphors and actors that through philosophy, music and literature have reached and influenced my inner world; the fluid in which I can immerse myself and transform primordial sensations into artworks by visually shaping them.

The in-depth analysis of all these sparks leads to the construction of

an allegoric cosmos in which each element holds a precise meaning in relation to the other actors that inhabit my planets. Each surreal setting condenses and translates a significant emotional experience, from which myself in the first place I try to extract a meaning placed beyond the daily space.

“I want to live in every universe created by your tears” (above) is a declaration of love. As, in order not to let your sorrows be wasted, I could create a universe out of every single teardrop and let the water of your eyes be the origin of new lives.

I’m Sara Gruenbauer, a german self-taught artist with a passion for abstract art. I live and create art in Hamburg. The city where my passion began:

A few years ago, I moved from my hometown, to Hamburg. I wanted to design my apartment as individual and special as possible. So I started to design my own artworks. I wanted to create a special atmosphere through unique pieces, which nobody has. While creating the artworks, I realized how calming and meditative art is for me.

For me, art means freedom. Freedom in structures, shapes,

surfaces, designs, colors and the moment to simply be able to be me and live in the moment. To create art allows me to express emotions without judgement. It’s a way to escape norms.

The fascinating about abstract art is not only the freedom while creating it; it also gives everybody the freedom to see different things and shapes in it. Abstract paintings affect each recipient differently, which always makes it an individual experience.

I’ve experienced some difficult parts in my life, where the creation of abstract art helped me to express myself. To do so,

I’m using different colours and shapes. So if you look at some of my artworks you will not just see a painting, you’ll see a part of myself.

“hephaistos” spreads warmth and danger at the same time. Love and fire. The art to fan the flames. The seething that is in me and probably in each of us. The volcano that is boiling up. I created it with acrylics on canvas. For the structure, I used coarse structure paste. (fun fact: a friend of mine see’s the shape of Santa Claus in it - like I said: abstract art is always an individual experience)

“pure” expresses another feeling. It stands for something new. For uncertain things and freshness. The feeling of first rays of sunshine in spring. It is the newborn, who discovers the world, valueless and curious. The pure silver foil adds a shine.

At the beginning of painting, I was often worried about what other people think of me doing art. “zorro” helped me to realize that it doesn’t matter. A fight for freedom and justice. A fight for love. For yourself.

Born and raised in Azerbaijan, I have been strongly influenced by my cultural roots. However, I also have a global vision of the world that is guided by my sensitivity towards nature, culture, and human values.

In my art, I aim to deliver an abstract conceptualisation of reality that connects people through the colours, techniques, and emotions that I convey in my work. I am constantly striving to reinvent my artistic approach so that established laws are challenged and given new meaning and perspective.

While I have explored various painting techniques and experimented with different mediums throughout my artistic journey, I have recently discovered a love for pointillism. The process of meticulously dotting the canvas to create a larger image has become my favourite form of artistic expression. The precision

and patience required for this style bring a sense of calm and focus to my work, and I find myself constantly drawn to the challenge of creating depth and texture through small dots of colour.

My creative process typically involves a lot of planning and preparation before I begin a new project. I spend time researching and brainstorming ideas, and I often create sketches or mock-ups to help me visualise.

The painting “Once Upon a Time” was created using the pointillism technique. Through the varied brush strokes that populate the composition, I aimed to convey a particular mood or emotion.

Inspired by the storytelling and virtuosity of Gothic stained glass, I sought to create a sense of movement and fluidity within the piece. Van Gogh’s use of vibrant colours and bold brushwork has also been a major influence on

my work, particularly in terms of creating depth and texture.

Furthermore, my art is an expression of the intimate connection between my faith and my work. Against a backdrop of an intense Van Gogh-like blue starry sky, the naked tree branches suggest a winter scene. This is symbolic of the ebb and flow of life, the cycle of growth and decay, and the transformation that comes with change.

“I believe playing is in our nature. However, in the process of growing up, we replace toys with people which leads us to forget the harmless games we used to play.”

Su Barikan, a visual artist and designer, was born in Istanbul in 1984. She studied fine arts in high school, which laid the foundation for her future endeavors in the fields of fine arts, fashion design, interior design, and philosophy. Her education began in Istanbul, where she studied interior design; having been accepted into the Leonardo da Vinci Mobility Pass Program in Italy, at Istituto per l’Arte e il Restauro Palazzo Spinelli, Florence.

The artist lived in the Netherlands from 2010-14; she attended a program in Amsterdam at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, which focused on installations & contemporary art. Later on, she studied fashion design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague for two years and she received a scholarship from the academy. During her studies in the Netherlands she enjoyed the most visual designs of robots which she collaborated with TU Delft: Delft University of Technology.

The curiosity and passion for learning and researching have always driven her to strive for knowledge. In 2022, she completed her degree in Philosophy from Istanbul University, and she currently lives in New York City where she dedicates her time to pursue her interests in fine arts. Specifically, she has been focusing on her paintings and developing her artistic skills over the years. This has become her primary focus at the moment, allowing her to indulge in her creative side, while also expanding her horizons in the art world.

Hello. I am Ellie, a digital artist based in Seoul, Korea. When I was a college student, I scribbled on a napkin at a cafe and made my character ‘Cabbit’ that combines

rabbit and cat. Since 2014, I’ve made 9 calendars for every year to see Cabbit everyday. With that opportunity, I’ve been studying

various drawing tools such as illustrator and photoshop for years.

I entered the crypto art space in 2022, exhibiting digital artworks in Korea. I came up with the idea of drawing moon jar while I decide to drawing of Jinli’s rabbit and Ellie’s animal friends in the moon jar for the first exhibition ‘a-mazed inner beauty’ at Seoul in December, 2022. Starting with this exhibition, I’ve been exhibiting digital paintings in cities around the world, including Seoul, New York, London, Osaka and so on.

I like animals and drawing traditional Korean material such as a moon jar. A moon jar is especially attractive to draw, because it’s a new space in my work where I can draw the story I want. I am illustrating episodes that wish for good fortune through animals in the moon jar.

My collection focuses on animal’s stories of entering and playing in the moon jar. With focused pictures of the moon jar and animals, I tell the story of harmony with various people in the world. Sometimes, I also express the experience of working as a project manager at one of the IT companies in Korea, too.

I’m a self-taught artist based in Philly working in cybersecurity by day.

I devote a substantial amount of time to my real passion though, art. I loved to doodle as a kid, and won several competitions in elementary school, but sadly, got away from it as I got older.

In May 2022, I decided to get back into art and within 12 months I sold several works of art, which was on display at the Pancakes and Booze International Art Pop-up Show, and will be on exhibit with The Holy Art Gallery’s Art on Loop in Amsterdam, Brussels, and Paris this Summer. Additionally, I’ll be on exhibit with Teravarna Contemporary Art Gallery and Laguna Art Gallery.

My paintings are a unique twist on the traditional Japanese marbling technique, “Suminagashi.”

I was struck by the whimsical and vibrant nature of the style. Literally, the word means “ink floating.” Swirling patterns, like those found in natural marble stone, can be created by dropping ink or paint on the surface of water and then placing paper on top to lift the ink. The difference here is that I’m using the technique to create form and figure directly on canvas instead of water. Within each square inch on the canvas is entropy in action. Each block of marbling captures a unique moment in time frozen in vivid swirling hues that dance and dazzle the eye of the viewer. Perspective is an integral aspect of these

pieces.

Up close, the marbling itself is primarily visible; from a distance, however, the form and figure take shape. Using a mixture of acrylic paint and retardant to extend the working time, I lay the color down in shapes to form the figure. It’s truly a race against the clock and time is not my friend!

From the moment I begin to pipette the paint onto the canvas, I have to work quickly to complete the pieces or else the paint becomes tacky and unworkable. If the paint is too thin, it doesn’t hold form; too thick, the marbling effect won’t be achievable. It’s a game of ratios...and plenty of trial and error.

Marbling has been a fun endeavor into the world of color for me. I get a kick out of seeing what can be achieved in just a few hours. I find the whole process highly mediative as it allows me to quiet an otherwise chatty mind.

My medium is abstract on canvas acrylic - I started using heavy texture to monochromatic to contrasting hues to total black backgrounds and shapes.

I am constantly in redefining mode. Art is an emotional release that brings me a sense of resolve and completion in working out a situation from beginning to end.

I feel a sense of identity, freedom of expression, and understanding. A piece can start one way and may end up different; it allows me to envision outcomes and

possibilities- it is a form of thinking, communication, and meditation.

I never touch a piece of canvas without inspiration. I use different tools to create textures forms - I use layers of paint. I use ationgle tools. I create shapes with lids or window squeegees. I use sponges and granite granules. Once I start applying paint- the magic of art begins.

In my painting I best communicate my interpretation of the world around me in representational subjects focusing on architecture, mainly houses, in the environment. Architecture was something I gravitated towards and something that inspired me. I was attracted to the geometric shapes set against organic and natural settings. Also, on sunny days, I was interested in the way the sunlight defined these shapes and shadows naturally, enhancing their sculptural qualities and creating the illusion of depth in the painting.

Focusing on one subject has allowed me to explore and expand on one idea. This focus has caused a plethora of ideas to manifest. In order not to get overwhelmed I capture all my ideas in a sketchbook. Also, with notes and sketches I am able to build concepts, refine images, and use these ideas for reference for future work, and integrate them into recent ideas.

Although, my subject matter is recognizable in my paintings, they are not naturalistic. They originate from conceptual ideas such as the unexpected and unintentional involvement with the subject, the abstract qualities in representational subjects, and the way these structures appear and disappear in the landscape. Also, they are physically impossible idealized images with exaggerated colors and structure. With this I am able to express a specific atmosphere and mood in the painting.

I use my surroundings as an inspiration for my work. With this I am constantly seeking something within me that expresses what I am thinking and feeling as well as including the interpretation of the world around me.

Crypsybear is socially critical art in the digital ecosystem whose proceeds go to children’s aid projects.

Even if my art hasn’t any similarity with the artworks of Banksy or Beeple, still these are the artists that inspired me to become an artist myself. Their artworks were so different from what I thought would be art, yet they were brilliant. Banksy inspired me to become an artist, Beeple inspired me to make it digital.

The contemporary artworks are crafted using different techniques, such as photography, collage, drawings and artificial intelligence. Some artworks come with very simple messages like “read more books, eat less fast food”, others take some time to reveal their meaning.

The journey of creating art is often a transformative one, where the artist begins with a vision in mind and ends up with something beautifully different. Through the creative process, an artist may encounter unexpected challenges and find new inspiration, leading to a final artwork that is unique and often surpasses their original vision. This journey can be both challenging and rewarding, as the artist navigates the complexities of their medium while striving to bring their ideas to life. Ultimately, the end result is a testament to the artist’s perseverance, creativity, and willingness to explore new possibilities.

The beauty of art is that it can transcend borders and language barriers, and with NFTs, we can now use that power to make a global impact. I firmly believe that every child deserves a chance at

a better life, and by supporting UNICEF through my art, I am doing my part in helping make that a reality. Martina Nagyova, born and based in Slovakia, the heart of Europe. I´ve had an artistic soul since my childhood, however my serious deep dive into the art path began a few years back. Events, moments, and situations we experience are interconnected, although we may not understand them when happening.

The truth is that duality is what shakes our own existence. It tests and makes us think about the reason for our own existence. Duality offers us wings and brings us down to the ground at the same time. We are sometimes prisoners of our own mind and ego. To accept our own duality and to make peace with ourselves is the way to go.

Serife MAZLUM is a self taught abstract artist, mother of 2 who started using art as a therapy after an accident at work and being diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).

Life got very difficult in terms of physical health but this didn’t stop her from using her abilities to a positive.

Hi, my name is Steve Burton and I’m a self-taught contemporary Artist based in Hampshire, England.

I sketched all sorts of things growing up and I enjoyed Art at school however it wasn’t until many years later - the covid pandemic, when I picked up a pencil again. Sky Arts Artist of the Year and Grayson Perry’s Art Club were also a huge inspiration that formed the start of my painting journey.

In the three years since starting, I’ve exhibited at the Holy Art Gallery in London and joined my local art club which has introduced me to fellow Artists & given me the opportunity to get involved in local exhibitions.

I’ve always had an intense curiosity, love of nature and a keen eye for detail so painting allows me to indulge in all of those traits and I believe it provides a unique sense of place and atmosphere to the landscapes I create.

Before starting this Four Seasons collection, I decided that each location would be somewhere I’d never visited so I could research and visit online to get a sense of the place and immerse myself in the surroundings.

My name is Benjamin Hand, but I like to go by the pen name Infinityblues.

I have always been greatly inspired

by music and literature, and I have always liked things which are weird, strange or not ‘normal’ in some way.

I am fascinated by dreams and the subconscious, and this often influences my art in many ways.

Ever since I was a young boy, I have loved painting and drawing and I am self-taught, so my work is not so polished but very raw, which is one quality I enjoy in my art or even in music.

I have attempted to detail my dreams in my paintings and often, an image will come to me fully formed and I just have to bring it into reality, so to speak.

‘A whole child ago’

Is inspired by the Biffy Clyro song of the same name.

The lyric, ‘with an eyeball melting out of the corner of my mouth’, always stuck with me and one day, struggling for an idea on what to paint, this song just happened to play next on my playlist, and Voila!

Inspiration struck.

‘Pelagea’

Is one of my favourite paintings I have ever done, such a joy to paint. When you do something you really enjoy and are so engrossed in it, it really takes you away. I understand now what the ‘flow state’ is.

I didn’t want to paint a straight portrait, and it took a few tries to get a colour scheme that satisfied me but the blue on the red background really does it for me.

Ironically, without intending to, she turned out looking a lot like a girl who I had a crush on in high school, which I think enamours her to me even more.

‘Impression of a story unfurling’

Is an attempt to collect different elements of a dream I had into one piece.

Many of my dreams are a mixture of feelings and dialogue and narrative, skipping from scene to scene, it’s vivid but hazy and they meld into each other, and that is what I was trying to capture in this piece.

All works are acrylic on canvas, all were their own individual journeys.

Ticiana Suli is a London raised artist, currently living in Brighton. She creates digital paintings on her iPad through the Procreate app, bridging the gap between traditional art and technology. For Ticiana Suli, her work has been a transformative artistic journey, enabling her to gain a deeper understanding of the intricate workings of her own psychology. The concept of eyeballs as the window to her soul has played a pivotal role in this exploration.

As Ticiana meticulously crafted each eyeball within its glass enclosure, she found herself delving into the depths of introspection. The process of capturing the intricate details of the eyeballs on canvas became an act of self-reflection, allowing her to confront her own fears, desires, and vulnerabilities. The eyes became a mirror, reflecting her innermost thoughts and emotions. By presenting the eyeballs as both observers and the observed, Ticiana realised that her art was

not just an external representation of her soul but also a tool for self-discovery. Through the act of digital painting, she gained insight into the layers of her own identity and the complexities of her psyche.

The vibrant brushstrokes used in “Not For Sale” mirrored the myriad emotions and thoughts that reside within Ticiana’s mind. The colours, ranging from warm and vibrant to cool and muted, revealed the dynamic nature of her thoughts and the diverse aspects of her personality.

Through the juxtaposition of the lively brushwork and the serene, encapsulated eyeballs, Ticiana discovered the interplay between her external reality and her inner world. She recognised how external influences, such as societal expectations and the pervasive impact of capitalism, can shape and confine her true self. The artwork became a catalyst for her to challenge these influences and reclaim her authenticity.

Moreover, the presence of multiple eyeballs in the artwork reminded Ticiana that her experiences and struggles were not isolated but shared by many. It deepened her understanding of the collective nature of the human condition and the universal longing for selfexpression and freedom.

As the figure gazes outwards, a subtle smoky haze surrounds them, creating an atmosphere of contemplation and introspection. The act of smoking becomes a metaphorical bridge, connecting the artist’s internal exploration with the external world, and beckoning the audience to join in this introspective journey.

By establishing direct eye contact with the viewers, the figure disrupts the traditional boundaries between art and audience, breaking the passive observer role. The piercing gaze demands attention, challenging the viewers to engage with the artwork on a deeper level. The presence of the figure suggests that the art is not just a static creation but a living, breathing entity that actively involves and interacts with those who encounter it.

In essence, art has served as a profound tool for Ticiana Suli to explore the psychology of her mind. Dalia Shamay is an artist, creator and designer. Born in Israel in 1971. She studied graphic design, photography, and product design at the Neri Bloomfield Academy of Design. Her paintings deal with personal, mental content, dealing with loss and pain. Through the paintings, she cries out her difficulties and those of society as a whole. She deals a lot with questions of religion, faith, sexuality, gender, childhood and a lot of imagination. Drawing has always been her only way of expressing the pain she felt. Dalia’s paintings are colorful, cheerful and full of humor, in complete contrast to the difficult content, which

enhances the viewer’s experience. Dalia starts drawing with a pencil on the paper and then continues to process her drawings on the iPad. The human body and face fascinate her, her characters are often androgynous, without hair and without clothes, as a reflection of the soul. Dalia uses the drawing of internal body parts, many signs and symbols to show the Human materiality versus the spirit.

For her, the letters symbolize part of the establishment and the government that she criticizes. For example: the letter O is sometimes used as a halo above the characters and sometimes as something that

binds, strangles, connects. The letter V as a symbol of victory. The letter D belongs to her first name. the letter Y when it is upside down; as an unstable and branched base. The sign € - Euro, a symbol of capital, a dialogue between capital, government, religion, mind/matter and spirit.

The special cuts that she creates and the doubling of the figures, often create the shape of a female genital organ. This is her way of expressing the criticism she feels about the male takeover of religion and it is also her way of expressing her personal and female distress from this charged issue. Sometimes she also implicitly adds a phallic organ.

CARMEN LINDAHL

Born in Spain in 1956, raised in Paris, Carmen later moved to Sweden and then Luxemburg. There she had her first artistic schooling at l’ Ecole des Beaux Arts and painted for local artists. Moving to Paris again she was accepted at “Salon des Indépendants” in 1991.

Settling in Stockholm in 1994 she continued with oil painting but also worked with prints, Chinese ink, sculpture and watercolour, studying for several Swedish artists. Being a member of the Co-operative Artist’s Workshop in Nacka, outside Stockholm, gave access to hardware to broaden her scope.

Exhibitions included galleries in Sweden, Spain and Greece. Admitted to the Swedish

Artists’ Association in 2001, she received the Members’ award in 2006. She represented the Nordic Watercolour Society at an international watercolour biennial in Italy

and was chosen to participate at the City of Stockholm Art Gallery (“Liljevalchs”) traditional spring show in 2009. Carmen’s lithographs were selected for the 7th International Print Symposium in Tidaholm, Sweden in 2015. Her works have been acquired by Swedish towns, private collectors, companies and corporate art associations.

As from 2016 Carmen lives in Menton, France with her studio in the old town. She has since exhibited in nearby towns, in Monaco, Stockholm, Paris, Venice, London and online. This spring, her works are shown in Nice at the Galerie des Dominicains. The exhibition focuses on floral motives and different ways of approaching them. The snowberries and magnolia motives that dominate the show are firstly in the form of oil paintings made with knife on linen canvas. Chinese ink paintings are a source of inspiration, the brush strokes are a testimony of that. Secondly, Carmen has made stone prints with the same motives, using 300 gram Velin paper adding ink and water colour.

She is also showing multicolour lithographs, traditional watercolours and watercolours much inspired by Asian technique. Carmen has been described by the Swedish art historian Göran Ståhle as an artist that never stops reinventing herself. This is a challenge for the artist and maybe also for the audience, you never know what to expect next. As mentioned, her several techniques have allowed her to change between sculpturing, painting and printing. Now she is digging into yet another way of working; oil painting on paper mounted on linen canvas covered with resin. The motives are vegetal. Chewing - gum artist, based on research on the physical properties of chewing - gum,YIMLIM’s <2024 Paris Olympics - eye climbing> It’s a work more focused on action. It’s goes further than sports climbing and experiments with the similarities between sports and art.

Through climbing to find an answer to a given problem in an individual way, the artist visualizes his own journey and introduces a new climbing technique which call ‘eye climbing’, that allows climbing only with the eyes, not the body the similarity of problem solving given to sport climbers and individual artists.

In other words, climbing with aesthetic elements derived from action, decision and resolution, while visualizing the movement as a problem solving course, artist offer a playful vision through eye climbing by installing new problems and obstacles.

Resolving formation and aesthetics through a process, an aesthetic element similar to climbing, is a problem given to the artist.

Artists also act, decide and solve problems. If it is characterized by making curves on the wall with origami technology, expanding or reassembling modular paper, the work proceeds by attaching gum that matches or opposes the lines and planes.

If his previous works were explorations and experiments based on the material characteristics of chewing gum, <eye climbing> is an experiment based on the human body as a medium. In that sense, it is connected to some extent with the behavioral motif in <DUREX>, a previous work that experimented with the sensory identity of chewing gum and condoms. The climbing technique in eye climbing by the artist can be explained as a way to solve personal problems by expanding or moving the functions of the body rather than dividing the body and sensory organs.

The artist uses the unconscious movement of the masticatory muscles to extend the act of chewing gum to the act of making materials, and reaches the creation of ‘unconscious materials’ through

direct participation in material creation. The artist reconstructs the surrealism of the past in a new way by interpreting the experimental mood and expression of Yves Tanguy.

If previous works were pictorial attempts using chewing gum, < eye climbing> can be seen as belonging to a movement that creates pictorial images through attempts.

Inspired by a story written by a friend, the fourth dimension frog is painted with acrylic on canvas, depicting a climactic moment a usually-elusive, seeminglypsychic amphibian allows itself to be bludgeoned by a now-baffled scientist on a stage during a Ted Talk, resulting in an unribboning of rainbow guts and the scientist’s sanity.

Certain parts of the story scrawled across the painting reveal glimpses into the tale of the frog and its dogged pursuit by an obsessive scientist. Colours and brushstrokes

used convey the psychedelic nature of an immortal species from another dimension, and the artist’s love for this very specific genre and of what she considers to be great literature.

Hanis makes things at the whim and fancy of her ADD and is led, ring-through-cow-nosedly, to create whenever inspiration strikes (at the most inconvenient times, and its completion at the behest of a quickly waning interest). When she is not painting, or sleeping, she is writing. Mostly in her head. Her phone notes are chock-a-

block with poetry and stories rife with made-up words and phrases. Artwork is not so easily capturable into tiny nuggets to be stored in a device, and thus, this frog painting, therefore, is a rarity in its realization, and much beloved to her.

The two paintings here were created almost intuitively, as the faces of both the legendary designer, Vivienne Westwood and John Lydon of the Sex Pistols wouldn’t leave my head for days.

I used reference photos but let my paintbrushes and colours do the rest in as free a way as possible. Both portraits are painted on brown cardboard, as it felt right for the punk ethos.

The torn corner of Vivienne’s portrait is my dog’s contribution. Rather than discard the painting I decided it would work and I used

the pieces, as her gaze follows the torn corner. John Lydon (Johnny Rotten) is shown with his usual expression of anxiety with a touch of anger . Both are acrylics on cardboard Approx . 30 x 30cms.

I am often a painter of people because faces fascinate me but will paint most things. I am inspired by energy, colour, form and light and this takes me into the world of abstract painting and painting the sea and landscape where I live in Margate, U.K.

I am mainly self taught, always learning and evolving . My

work was shown at the Turner Contemporary open exhibition Margate, shortlisted for the Turner Fringe Prize 2019 judged by Tracey Emin, long listed for the Hollybush Prize and for the Visual Artists Association competition. I am a landscape Artist living and working in Odiham, Hampshire. I was brought up in the foothills of the Pennines, and have painted and drawn ever since I was a young child. The rugged windswept moorland along with the ever changing weather and light has always sparked my imagination and curiosity.

In the last ten years I have been fortunate to live in many different places from North Scotland to Cyprus. The lucid colours of the Mediterranean Sea drew me to paint a series based on the stunning coastline. I am a part of the military RAF community and draw great inspiration from the beautiful and very different landscapes experienced through travel. Alongside the multitude of different aircraft that fly overhead.

Helicopters are a particular favourite aircraft of mine to paint. I enjoy keeping the landscape in which I paint them, as fairly abstracted. Large swathes of bright colour with big brushes, allowing the paint to drip down and pool. The aircraft are also fairly minimal in detail, with the primary focus on depicting their form, ability and power.

My current home village in Hampshire has provided me with many stunning countryside walks and is a constant source of painting

inspiration. The painting looking through the trees with the dappled sunlight across the path is a particular favourite of mine - Love Lane.

As a self taught digital artist, I do love working on Photoshop which offers multiple tools to express my creativity to create my own universe and show my world vision. Regarding my creative process, most of my inspirations come from nature, women but also my personal experience and I do love gathering different pictures to bring a perception of my idealistic-surrealistic world as a contemporary artist.

My aim with these three artworks is to emphasize women beauty as well as the animal kingdom and

the deep connection between them, by adding textures, different layers of lighting and symbolism to enhance their magnificence in a surrealistic way. In my first artwork called ‘Animal instinct’, a jaguar is represented as a spirit animal, symbol of courage, intuition, confidence which also qualifies women in their integrity. The jaguar stands between two women bodies on which a plumage of a peacock blends into the skin : the woman integrates the peacock’s insurance and incarnates her Renaissance. This brings us to the second artwork

called ‘Inner Self’ where I have decided to replace the whole female human body by a costume similar to a fur of a feline and her profile by a tiger’s face, which highlights women’s strength and independence. The association and comparison between a human being and a feline aims to enhance the importance and admiration of the animal Kingdom and women.

Finally, in my third artwork called ‘Harmony’, a slender figure is dancing between two polarities that bring this character to reach the unicity. I sublimated this woman whose posture seems to achieve a balance, surrounding herself by two koï carps which represent, in the Japanese

culture, love and beauty but also strength and perseverance, as they constantly fight through thick and thin. I finalized this work by enhancing the carps with two different colors that put their duality together to reach this harmonious well-being.

In other words, my work is an invitation to question the viewers about their own existence and the connection they have with the animal kingdom.

Artist Statement: Exploring Color and Geometric Shapes as Tools for Healing and Transformation

In my artistic journey, I have discovered the profound impact that color and geometric shapes can have on our emotional wellbeing. Through my art, I strive to create a therapeutic and healing space that invites viewers to experience a sense of tranquility, introspection, and release.

Color, with its inherent ability to evoke various emotions and moods, serves as the cornerstone of my creative process. Each hue possesses a unique energy and symbolism, and I carefully select

and combine them to elicit specific emotional responses. Whether it is the calming blues that instill a sense of serenity or the vibrant yellows that evoke joy and optimism, color acts as a language to communicate with the viewer’s subconscious, triggering a range of feelings and memories.

Geometry, on the other hand, provides a structured framework that lends stability and balance to my compositions. Geometric forms create a visual order that resonates with our innate sense of harmony. My love of puzzles is the basis for why I believe I love geometric abstraction.

My art is deeply rooted in the belief that creative expression can

act as a powerful form of therapy, enabling individuals to transcend their limitations and reconnect with their authentic selves. During moments when I have felt stuck or trapped within certain circumstances, my art has been a transformative force, guiding me towards self-discovery and personal growth. By tapping into the unconscious self, I give shape and form to emotions, thoughts, and experiences that lie dormant within, providing an avenue for healing and release.

In essence, my art is a testament to the transformative power of color, geometry, and creative expression. It serves as a reminder that even in ominus times, there is always a path to healing, growth, and selfdiscovery.

Untitled - This piece is a homage to other artists I have studied along the way and how they have inspired me and make me feel including Hilma AF Klint, Kandinsky and Sonia Delaunay.

This was the first piece I created in many months after being unable to produce anything because of health reasons. It makes me feel proud and a sense of joy. It is a completely unconscious creation showing my love of bright colors, symbols and symmetry.

The reminder; the call to prayer; the minaret. Islam is a religion which holds several wonders, and in this artwork, it symbolizes one of its most beautiful wonders: its architectural beauty.

The minaret is a tower that calls upon the believers to prayer five times every single day, and not once has it ever missed a call.

Stories and sermons about our Prophet and his faith are captured within these walls. The devotions and faith of the believers are encapsulated within these grounds. And the calls of the prayers, that

never have a beginning, nor an end will forever be held as a distance echo through the minarets.

This artwork captures the essence of Islamic architecture with its intricate carvings that has gloriously stood for hundreds of years.

Although the UAE has evolved into a modern country, the deep Arabic legacy and heritage are still clearly visible in recognition to the founding father Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan.

He was a man of wisdom,

dedication, intelligence, and a vision that is being carried forward until this day. Even though Sheikh Zayed passed away several years ago, his memory remains strong until this day as he is considered to be the Founding Father. He is fondly referred to as “Baba Zayed” which translates to “Father Zayed”. As the UAE continues to progress towards the future it holds to its past with an equal passion. Where the call to prayer continues and our roots going back to our Founding Father are never forgotten.

In my artistic research, I explore the hidden links between shapes, colors and metaphysical meanings. In my works, the shapes often refer to trees, plants and flying animals. Always in transformation, my figures constitute metamorphoses that arise both from unconscious forces and from skilful calculation. In my paintings, space is not represented realistically: I usually prefer vertical structures, which symbolize the deep union between the physical and spiritual worlds. My goal is to express the human condition and transform it into an image on the canvas. For me, painting represents a threshold, beyond which another world opens up. In addiction, an important part of my suggestions are philosophical and literary stimuli: for example, the concept of Umgreifende (Embracing) of Karl Jaspers’ philosophy of existence or the Grundworth Ich-Du (Fundamental Word I-You) from the Jewish theologian Martin Buber. All these cultural stimuli - although subterranean and occult - act sensitively in my artistic making. My motto is: “Art as a threshold of mystery”.

As I dive deeper in my creative process I find myself exploring the realm of punk expressionism. It’s a movement fueled by raw emotion defiance

and a desire to challenge social norms.

Chains both literal and metaphorical feature prominently in my artwork they symbolize the societal constraints that seek to confine and suppress our true selves. As I paint I break the chains,liberating the human spirit and encouraging others to embrace their own authenticity. Layer upon layer my creations take shape. Each layer adds complexity revealing glimpses of the underlying stories and emotions. The process is an intense dance between spontaneity and intentionality as I navigate the interplay of colors, textures and symbols creating a visual symphony that resonates with the viewer.

My name is Julia Lapuyade and I’m a 24-year-old French beginner artist and a science student. I’m currently based in Normandy and from Versailles.

I Started drawing at the age of 10.

I’m a self-taught artist and have taken a few basic art courses. I experimented a lot on my own to discover my own style. I travel and draw inspiration from my travels. My work is part of contemporary art.

I use the techniques of pastel (soft and oil) and charcoal. I apply soft pastel with my fingers. Then I crush the pigment to create particularly fluid gradations of color. I’m inspired by nature, especially isolated places that have a particular energy. In Normandy, certain places are special to me, and Etretat was one of them.

The cliffs give me a feeling of peace. I have chosen a cloudy and misty weather to create a contrast with the light coming from the meadow and the coast.

Mobius signifies connection between different dimensions. Quantum entanglement is another confusion. It challenges traditional thinking about physical world. Zhuang Zhou is a famous Chinese Philosopher who is known for his great thinking in Tao. Kun is an enormous fish from book of Zhuang Zhou, Peripateticism. Kun is giant beyond imagination. This creature signifies absolute freedom, swimming in the deepest sea, flying in the farthest universe, from the darkest night, breaking the brightest twilight. It also means no self, no achievements, and no fame. The true usage is uselessness. The green color signifies Tao’s nature, which means to govern by doing nothing that goes against nature. The Earth is initiating an immune response to humans. Saving earth is saving us ourselves. Sometimes people are attracted to some immediate interests, ignoring possible externalities. It is not about benefits of a nation, a group of people, or even races. It is about human community of common destiny.
