GIFT PLANNING EVA'S GIFT OF HOPE A planned gift from benefactor Eva Stark will bolster clinical research, early detection, and treatment of breast cancer at Levine Cancer Institute. The motivation behind Eva’s generous gift stems from her own family experience with cancer, as she witnessed the effects of the disease on her beloved grandmother. Born in Germany during the Holocaust, Eva lost her mother during childbirth and was raised by her grandparents in Chile. When her grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer, Eva served as caretaker until her passing. Eva’s love for her grandmother and experience touring LCI’s research laboratories inspired her to make a legacy gift to Atrium Health Foundation. She visited the research lab with her close friend, Sandra Goldman, an LCI patient and four-time breast cancer warrior. In addition to funding groundbreaking breast cancer research, Eva’s gift will benefit LCI: Project PINK, a program that provides free mammogram screenings and education for uninsured women across Greater Charlotte. Her gift will also support renovations to the rooftop Healing Garden at LCI, as gardening is one of Eva’s lifelong passions. She wants to ensure this space continues to serve as a place of respite and reflection for patients and their families, for years to come.
