Anna Hovey President & CEO Auburn ChamberA MESSAGE FROM Ron Anders
Welcome to Auburn! Whether you just finished unpacking the moving truck or are here for the weekend, we’re excited you’re here. As you explore the Loveliest Village on the Plains, we hope you get a glimpse of why we’ve been named a best place to live (MONEY Magazine) and one of the South’s best college towns (Southern Living).
It doesn’t take long to see the ties between Auburn University and its hometown. We at the City of Auburn are proud of this close partnership that extends far beyond athletics. It spreads into our economic development efforts, infrastructure improvements and cultural and recreational opportunities.
About 10 minutes from downtown, you’ll find Chewacla State Park with more than 30 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, a 26-acre lake and RV and tent campgrounds. Have a pup in tow? Check out the dog parks and walking trails at Kiesel Park, Town Creek Park and Dinius Park. Bring the kids to the award-winning Town Creek Inclusive Playground, designed and built for all ages and abilities. If nature isn’t your thing, see a Broadway play at the Jay and Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center or admire the collections at the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art — both mere minutes from campus. There’s so much to love about our village, and that has brought more and more people to our community. Recent estimates show that Auburn is now home to more than 80,000 residents, yet our small-town charm persists. That close-knit feeling you get when walking downtown or through the streets of our neighborhoods is what many still cherish about our community and a large part of why so many of our residents have chosen to build their lives and raise their families here.
At the core of Auburn, you’ll find our vibrant, beautiful downtown where the lines between town and gown overlap. It’s where we celebrate our victories. It’s where all facets of our community come together for parades and block parties. And it’s where we meet friends and family to shop and dine. Our bustling downtown has so much to offer year-round.
But downtown isn’t Auburn’s only draw. Our city schools are nationally recognized for their excellence, and the business community is thriving and steadily growing. Auburn earns its title as the Loveliest Village on the Plains, and some of the best places to see this manifested are in our beautiful parks.
And as we venture into the future, we’re planning for how we can grow wisely and intentionally while preserving all that we hold dear. We hope that you’ll get involved and join us as we envision what’s to come for our community.
Again, we’re glad you’re here, and we hope you see why Auburn is a great place to visit and an even better place to call home.
Ron Anders, Jr. Mayor, City of Auburna message from Dr. Roberts
Welcome to Auburn, home of Auburn University. My family and I have called the Loveliest Village on the Plains home for almost 30 years.
The university enjoys an excellent relationship with the cities of Auburn and Opelika. We work hard together to promote our great community and its residents. From academic endeavors to cultural and athletic events, Auburn has something that appeals to everyone.
Our university is a world-class academic institution, as reflected in our land-grant mission of research, instruction and outreach. The Auburn undergraduate experience is second to none. Our students were recognized in 2022 by The Princeton Review as among the “Happiest Students” in the nation and for attending one of the “Most Loved Colleges.”
The Princeton Review also recognized Auburn for the beauty, safety and friendliness on campus in the “Great Quality of Life” category and for having “Great Athletic Facilities,” which includes our recreational facilities. In 2022, U.S. News & World Report ranked Auburn as one of the top 50 public universities in the nation.
Forbes magazine ranked Auburn as the No. 1 university in its 2022 list of “America’s Best Employers for New Grads.” Auburn ranked No. 15 out of 300 employers on the national list, rating ahead of worldwide companies such as Google, Microsoft, American Express, Lockheed Martin and Delta Air Lines, to name a few. Auburn’s placement on the list is the third time in the past five years that it has been recognized by Forbes as a top employer. In 2021, Auburn was named one of the “Best Employers in Alabama,” and in 2017, it was named one of America’s “Best Midsize Employers.” Auburn is committed to not only delivering a worldclass education for our students, but to providing an exceptional working environment for our employees.
The university strives each day to enhance the lives of our residents and those around the state of Alabama. Our faculty are dedicated to improving lives through research. We are proud to be listed as a Carnegie R1 institution –– a classification reserved for universities engaged in “very high research activity.” This prestigious distinction recognizes Auburn’s role in solving society’s most pressing problems.
Culturally, our university is engaging with city residents through the Jay and Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center, which features worldrenowned performances, high-energy concerts and popular Broadway productions. The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art is one of our state’s leading art museums, offering the community a diverse lineup of compelling exhibitions and educational programming.
In addition, Auburn is home to the best gameday experience in college athletics, and our studentathletes and devoted fans show the world the special spirit that is found here.
Auburn is a city where you can grow professionally, raise a family or retire. Whether you are making this your new home or just visiting, we hope you enjoy your time on the Plains.
War Eagle!

AUBURN UNIVERSITY IS ONE OF THE TOP PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES IN THE NATION AND HOME TO MORE THAN 31,000 STUDENTS FROM EVERY STATE AND ACROSS THE GLOBE.Auburn Research auburn.edu/research
Auburn University has been recognized as a Carnegie R1 institution and one of the nation’s top 100 research institutions in the NSF Higher Education Research and Development Survey, placing it among the nation’s elite research universities. Auburn earned these distinctions by reaffirming its commitment to bring practical solutions to our communities and world. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, Auburn researchers leverage discovery and innovation to solve real-world problems and bring cutting-edge technologies into the marketplace for the benefit of citizens in Alabama, the region and the nation.
strategic focus areas
With an emphasis on how Auburn can help improve the world around us, plans for research growth concentrate on commitments for change in four focus areas.
1. Improve Health and Health Care in Alabama and Across the Nation
As Auburn University works to improve health and well-being in the state, region and nation, areas of focus include next-generation therapeutics, health disparities, precision medicine, chronic and infectious diseases and health care quality and cost.
Auburn’s Health Sciences Sector includes the Harrison College of Pharmacy’s Pharmaceutical Research Building and the College of Nursing building. Both facilities are located near the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM), bolstering collaborations among VCOM medical students and Auburn nursing and pharmacy students. Auburn is also dedicated to fighting devastating diseases, including GM1 gangliosidosis, a fatal childhood disorder that progressively destroys nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Auburn is proud to be part of the
first clinical trial of a GM1 gene therapy treatment administered to a child at the National Institutes of Health.
2. Create Intelligent Solutions
With an ever-changing technological landscape, Auburn is committed to being on the cutting edge of research that moves the world forward in areas such as automation, artificial intelligence, machine learning, next-generation manufacturing, quantum computing and data science.
The National Center for Additive Manufacturing Excellence (NCAME) was founded in 2017 through a collaboration between Auburn University (AU) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) leveraged by a signed AU/NASA Space Act Agreement. The center is also part of an Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence, a collaborative effort among AU/NASA, ASTM International and Edison Welding Institute. NCAME aims to lead and foster effective collaborations amongst industry, government, academia, non-profit organizations and ASTM committees for ensuring a coordinated, global effort toward rapidly closing standards and workforce development gaps in additive manufacturing.
The Interdisciplinary Center for Advanced Manufacturing Systems (ICAMS) at Auburn University is an important resource for small and medium manufacturers throughout the southeastern United States. Established in 2018, ICAMS offers the equipment, space and expertise to train and educate students and industry personnel in advanced manufacturing technologies. ICAMS’ efforts focus on reducing the barriers inhibiting the introduction of advanced manufacturing systems (e.g, the implementation of Industry 4.0 technologies) in small and medium manufacturing operations.
Established in 2021, the Auburn University Transportation Research Institute provides a unified presence and strategic direction for promoting the renowned transportation-related research conducted within the academic departments and research centers in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering.
Thanks to the reputation of the units under the institute’s umbrella — the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) and its affiliated asphalt test track, the Highway Research Center (HRC), the Alabama Transportation Assistance Program (ATAP) and the GPS and Vehicle
Dynamics Laboratory (GAVLAB) — extramural funding for transportation is greater than that of any other single topic within Auburn University’s research footprint.
3. Create a More Secure World Working to foresee and counter the latest cybersecurity and homeland security threats, Auburn’s McCrary Institute for Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Security, along with the Center for Cyber and Homeland Security and Canine Performance Sciences serve as key partners in making our world a safer place through innovation and discovery. A key component to this commitment is Auburn’s largest-ever research award, a $24 million contract by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate to advance detection canine sciences and enhance operational threat detection capabilities through the Detection Canine Sciences, Innovation, Technology and Education (DCSITE) program.
4. Build Resilient Societies
Auburn also remains committed to research that will advance society in areas such as energy independence and resilience, environmental sustainability, including coastal ocean science, and preserving a sustainable food water supply.
The Auburn University Water Resources Center facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration among Auburn University faculty and staff on water-related research, outreach and instruction; conducts innovative research to find practical solutions for current and future water issues and empowers private citizens to become active stewards of water resources. Since 2008, Auburn has been a U.S. Environmental Protection Agencydesignated Center of Excellence for Watershed Management, enhancing Auburn’s efforts to address water quality and availability issues in Alabama and the region.
innovation
Seven Auburn professors have been named fellows of the National Academy of Inventors, and the university continues to commercialize its discoveries to benefit the public. In 2022, option and license revenue for Auburn inventions totaled over $2.2 million.
Together, Auburn researchers drive discovery to the marketplace, collaborating with industry and government to create new economic development opportunities. Helping facilitate these partnerships are the Auburn Research and Technology Foundation and The Park, Auburn’s worldclass, 171-acre research park. Its facilities include the MRI Research Center, featuring a powerful 7T whole-body scanner, and the Research and Innovation Center, opened in fall 2020.
With expertise aligned to meet societal needs, Auburn research continues to make an impact on our world, serving as a catalyst for growth and prosperity in Alabama and beyond.

Auburn Research Park is a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem combining a business and research environment that fosters creativity and innovation, embraces collaboration, and promotes partnership.
For more than a decade, The Park has been driving innovation –– from launching start-ups to supporting mature, knowledge and tech-based companies. As the southern gateway to the Auburn University campus, The Park’s research and entrepreneurial environment serves to connect business with awardwinning faculty expertise and talented students eager to gain real-world experience.
The Park is home to the New Venture Accelerator — roughly 7,000 square feet of dedicated collaborative space within the Research and Innovation Center that houses a team of resident experts who guide startups through everything from creating business models, identifying pricing strategies and pitching to investors. Auburn student and faculty entrepreneurs associated with the New Venture Accelerator are responsible for creating over 350 jobs, have raised over $60 million and have a combined market capitalization of over $130 million.
In 2022, the New Venture Accelerator extended its resources more broadly thanks to a $1.3 million Build to Scale grant jointly funded from federal and local sources and administered by the U.S. Economic Development Administration. Amplified by this funding, the services supporting entrepreneurial students and faculty on campus are expanding to the local community.
The Auburn metropolitan area, which includes Lee County and Opelika, is the fastest-growing region in Alabama outside of Huntsville. It is growing four times faster than any other area in the state with a predicted population of 180,000 by the year 2025. Corresponding growth in The Park (which included a child development center as well as a free-standing emergency department, ambulatory surgery center and breast health center) is part of a larger strategy to meet needs and contribute to the economy of our energetic and ever-expanding region.
The Park’s new master plan harnesses that growth to create community — a hub not only for knowledge and tech-based research, but also mixed-used spaces with opportunities for living, dining, shopping, recreation, and connection. Increasingly, The Park is an inclusive destination on the rise, poised to serve those ready to live, work, play, and discover.
Auburn Outreach
As a land-, sea- and space-grant institution, Auburn University has a special legacy in serving the community beyond campus through outreach. For more than a century, Auburn has been engaging with communities, businesses, schools and government to help people meet their educational goals and to improve quality of life across our state.
The Division of University Outreach offers more than 800 programs annually providing educational opportunities for all ages. These include summer academic camps and college preparatory programs for youth, professional and job training courses and online certificates for working adults and lifelong learning programs for seniors. University Outreach also provides technical and strategic assistance to public and private entities and civic organizations to solve problems, improve systems and encourage economic development. Visit auburn.edu/outreach for a directory of programs and services offered by University Outreach and its eight specialized centers, institutes and offices.
Auburn’s faculty and students are active in community engagement too; the university’s academic departments host more than 75 innovative outreach centers and projects offering a wide variety of programs and services.
Auburn is also the headquarters of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (aces.edu), which provides research-based educational programs in agriculture, forestry, wildlife and natural resources, family and consumer sciences, economic and community development, 4-H and youth development and urban affairs. With offices across the state, Extension reaches one in three Alabamians each year.
Auburn University Outreach has received a number of awards and national citations, including the prestigious Carnegie Foundation Community Engagement Classification recognizing the scope, quality and impact of the university’s institutional engagement in the community.
AUBURNTraditions
Toomer’s Corner
Toomer’s Corner is where fans head to celebrate after a big Auburn athletics win. The rolling of Toomer’s Corner at Auburn was named as the nation’s “Best Sports Tradition” by the USA Today 10 Best Readers’ Choice travel award contest. The intersection of College Street and Magnolia Avenue is where Auburn’s campus and the city of Auburn meet. It’s also home to the famed Toomer’s Drugs, where the tradition of rolling the corner is said to have begun. The local drug store had the only telegraph in the city, so when employees received news of an Auburn victory at an away game, they would throw the ticker tape onto the powerlines of the intersection. The tradition then changed to throwing toilet paper into the trees. Pep rallies hosted by the Student Government Association and the city of Auburn are held at Toomer’s Corner during football season. Thousands of students, faculty and fans fill the downtown streets to cheer the Auburn Tigers.
War Eagle
War Eagle is both a salutation and a battle cry. It is not a mascot or nickname. “War Eagle” has become a way for the Auburn Family to greet and identify with each other all over the world. It can be heard before kickoff when Auburn fans join together for a loud “War Eagle!” as the eagle soars inside Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Tiger Trail
Tiger Trail is a series of plaques honoring Auburn’s greatest athletes, coaches and administrators, located on the sidewalks of downtown Auburn. A new class of honorees is inducted each year to this prestigious path, which includes more than 130 of Auburn’s athletic elite. An interactive map of the Tiger Trail can be found at webgis.auburnalabama.org/ TigerTrailViewer.
Aubie
Aubie is the mascot of the Auburn Tigers and is a 10-time national mascot winner. He is a spirit leader and goodwill ambassador for the university. With ten wins, he has won more UCA National Champion mascot titles than any other university mascot. Aubie was named the 2014 Capital One Mascot of the Year and was the first college mascot inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame in 2006.
Tiger Walk
Tiger Walk is a tradition that began in the early 1960s. Two hours before kickoff of every home football game, thousands of Auburn fans line Donahue Drive to cheer on the team as they walk to Jordan-Hare Stadium. Tiger Walk is such a major part of gameday activities that it’s listed on the players’ gameday itinerary. Fans often carry on the tradition at away games and bowl games.
The eagle flight
auburn creed
George Petrie (1866-1947) was a historian, college professor and the coach of Auburn’s first football team. In addition to introducing football to what was then the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama, Petrie brought innovative methods of teaching history to the university and mentored students who went on to become renowned historians. In November 1943, he wrote “The Auburn Creed,” in which he encapsulated the college’s spirit. Decades later, the Creed remains near and dear to the hearts of the Auburn Family.
The Eagle Flight is one of the most treasured gameday traditions in all of college football. Fifteen minutes before each home football game kickoff, the eagle takes flight inside the stadium for what ESPN has proclaimed the best pregame tradition in the SEC. Even visiting fans are captivated as the eagle soars around to the thundering “Waaarrrr Eagle!” of fans. The eagles promote wildlife conservation as a part of the education initiatives of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Southeastern Raptor Center. The USFWS permits the raptor center to house eagles and use them on hundreds of educational presentations each year, including Auburn’s home football games.Athletics

One of the many benefits of living in a college town is an exciting year-round lineup of athletic events for every fan and family to enjoy. A charter member of the Southeastern Conference, Auburn fields 21 NCAA Division I-A athletic teams – nine men’s and 12 women’s. The Auburn Tigers have claimed 22 national titles, including football, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, equestrian and women’s track and field. Auburn’s official colors are orange and navy blue, and its beloved mascot Aubie the Tiger is a 10-time national champion. Building on a legacy of athletic prowess, the Auburn Tigers have achieved seven perfect football seasons including national championships in 1957 and 2010, along with 12 conference championships. Three Auburn players have won the Heisman Trophy, named for former Auburn coach John Heisman and presented annually to college football’s most outstanding player: quarterback Pat Sullivan in 1971, running back Bo Jackson in 1985 and quarterback Cam Newton in 2010.
Woltosz Football Performance Center
Dedicated in August 2021 and formally opened in January 2023, the Woltosz Football Performance Center comprises 233,428 square feet and houses Auburn’s football operations. The facility covers 12 acres, including two full-sized natural grass outdoor fields, a 95,300-squarefoot indoor practice facility and the 25,000-square-foot Creel Family Player Development Lab offering strength and conditioning equipment and training space. The Woltosz Football Performance Center is located on the corner of West Samford Avenue and Biggio Drive, adjacent to the Auburn Athletics Complex. The $92 million facility is the largest athletics project in Auburn history.
Auburn was officially founded in the winter of 1836 when Judge John Harper set out with his family and other settlers to build a town intended to serve as the religious and educational center of the area. In 1839, the Alabama Legislature approved incorporating Auburn. After two years of growth and prosperity, Auburn began vying for a Methodist male college. On Feb. 1, 1856, the Legislature incorporated the East Alabama Male College. In 1859, the college opened its doors as a private liberal arts institution affiliated with the Methodist Church. The college was forced to close its doors in 1861 when most students joined the Confederate Army, but reopened Samford Hall as a hospital from 1864-1866. In 1866, East Alabama Male College opened once again, but struggled financially. In 1868, the Legislature decided to create a public land-grant college to offer specific training to help Alabama rebuild its wartorn state. Though the trustees would have preferred not to give up their college, the state had land-grant money and no campus and East Alabama Male College had a campus, but no money.
On Feb. 26, 1872, Lee County Legislator Sheldon Toomer wrote the bill making Auburn the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama.

The Donald E. Davis Arboretum is dedicated to the display of native woody plants of the southeastern United States. The 14-acre natural setting is supported by the College of Sciences and Mathematics at Auburn University. It is open year-round from sunrise to sunset and provides visitors a place for reflection and relaxation as they stroll along meandering paths. The scenery is reflective of unique habitats found in Alabama, such as rocky hillsides, stream bottoms, pond edges, salt-spray influenced sand dunes, pitcher plant bogs, and the Black Belt prairie.
In the spring, visitors will observe the blooms of more than 1,000 native Alabama azaleas, the largest collection in the state, as well as a multitude of native wildflowers. In addition to native plants, the arboretum is dedicated to implementing sustainable practices in the landscape. As a teaching resource for the public, the arboretum offers self-guided learning resources like the Stormwater Tour, which showcases tips for managing stormwater in a landscape. Informational brochures for this tour and other topics, such as locating native trees and shrubs in the facility, are available at the Arboretum Pavilion. The arboretum also functions as an outdoor classroom for university classes and local schools. There is no charge for admission.

& SHOPPING Dining
All over town, unique shops and dining spots are mingled with traditional favorites and new options are opening all the time.
Whether you’re searching for the perfect gift, celebrating over lunch, refreshing your home and yard, treating yourself to retail therapy, a night out, or just checking off the honey-do list, there’s no need to venture far from home.
Downtown Auburn and Auburn Mall are longtime shopping and dining hubs, and both have added new retailers and restaurants as each area has redeveloped and grown. Opelika Road has also experienced revitalization, celebrating the opening of a steady stream of new businesses including the Midtown Development. Just around the corner, on East University Drive, you’ll find lovely additions to great dining and retail spots as well.
The intersection of Moore’s Mill Road and Ogletree Road on the south side of town is home to shopping centers and a longtime favorite, Ogletree Village. North Auburn has also experienced growth in retail and dining options with new projects under construction and soon to open.
It is safe to say that all around town, you can find pockets of great businesses that are always eager to welcome our citizens and visitors too!

CAMPUS HOUSING ON-CAMPUS
universityhousing.auburn.edu
Auburn University Housing (AUH) accommodates nearly 4800 undergraduate students in 24 residence halls and seven housing neighborhoods.
The Village has eight residence halls housing approximately 1500 undergraduate students. Members of Auburn’s Panhellenic sororities live in Magnolia, Oak and Leischuck Halls. Plainsman Hall is all-female, while Aubie, Matthews, Talon and Holloway are coed and home to all freshmen. Most suites have four bedrooms and two bathrooms with a common area.
South Donahue consists of five floors of suite-style living and is coed by floor. Most suites have two bedrooms and two bathrooms with a shared living area, a kitchenette and a washer and dryer in the room.
Cambridge Hall has five floors of double occupancy rooms with private bathrooms. There is a laundry room and mailroom located on the first floor.
Located in the center of campus, the Quad includes 10 of Auburn’s most historic residence halls, with two halls being all-female. Rooms are configured as suites with two double occupancy rooms connected by a bathroom
The Hill has two residence halls that are configured as suites with two double occupancy rooms connected by a bathroom. Hill residence halls are coed by floor.
160 Ross and 191 College apartment communities come fully furnished and are either four-bedroom or two-bedroom units. Additionally, the communities offer a variety of amenities, including a state-of-theart fitness center, a tiger transit route to campus, a 24-hour academic success center with iMacs, and an outdoor community area with a pool and hot tub.
If your student is interested in off-campus housing, services provided by Off-Campus Partners can help them find the perfect place to live. When living off campus, remember leases are signed individually or as a group, and you should be informed of what the rent covers and when the lease ends.

Jay & Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center
goguecenter.auburn.edu
(334) 844-8497
Opened in August 2019, the Jay & Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center at Auburn University is east Alabama’s premier performing arts destination. The Gogue Center is home to two venues: the 1,200-seat Woltosz Theatre and 5,000-capacity Ham Amphitheatre. Spectacular shows range from sold-out concerts featuring Grammy and Tonywinning artists to intimate performances with world-renowned musicians and popular Broadway productions. Beyond the stage, the center also connects Auburn students and the community with artists through several special engagements, including artist talks, master classes and workshops.
Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art
jcsm.auburn.edu
(334) 844-1484
Located on Auburn’s campus, the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art is the cultural heart of an Alabama public research institution serving students, faculty and Southeastern constituents since 2003. The university art collection features works spanning the 17th to 21st centuries and includes photographs, works on paper depicting the South, ceramics and Southern visionary art. Holdings also includes works representing American modernism, stemming from the university’s 1948 purchase of 36 works from Advancing American Art. Artists in the U.S. State Department exhibition included women, immigrants, and artists of color, such as Romare Bearden, Jacob Lawrence, Yasuo Kuniyoshi, and Georgia O’Keeffe; guided by that precept, the museum actively acquires, exhibits and commissions work by historically underrepresented artists to expand cultural narrative and scholarship. The inviting atrium is home to Dale Chihuly’s Amber Luster Chandelier, and visitors will also see the latest additions to Auburn’s collection on rotating display. The striking facility features changing exhibition galleries, a café, a store, extensive grounds and landscaped walking paths dotted with sculpture. Admission is free. Follow @thejulemuseum or visit jcsm.auburn.edu for more information.

AUBURN CITY SCHOOLS
auburnschools.org
As classes resume for the 2023-2024 school year, enrollment in ACS, one of the fastest growing school districts in Alabama, will exceed 9,500 students.
To accommodate these students, there are 14 campuses that make up Auburn City Schools (ten elementary schools, two middle schools, one junior high and one high school).
As a result of growth, the Auburn City Council voted to commit the city’s 5 mill property tax fund to the school district for school construction, effective with the fiscal year 2016. Project payments from this fund must be voted on by the citizens of Auburn. Most recently, the Auburn citizens authorized payments for the construction of Auburn High School with a capacity for 2,200 students, which opened in the fall of 2017, and Creekside Elementary School with a capacity for 600 students, which opened in the fall of 2018.
In May 2018, the Auburn Board of Education approved ACS Facility Master Plan 2028, a 10-year plan addressing the demolition, reconstruction, and renovation of buildings as well as the impact of student growth on the capacity of facilities. Phase 1 of this plan, which began in the fall of 2018, included the reconstruction and demolition of Cary Woods Elementary School, J.F. Drake Middle School, and the gymnasium at East Samford School as well as the construction and opening
of Woodland Pines Elementary, the tenth elementary school in ACS. The complete plan can be found on the school system’s website at www.auburnschools. org.
Celebrating diversity, ACS boasts 46 native languages spoken by students, deriving from 74 countries of origin.
ACS was the first SMART Showcase District in the U.S. with all classrooms having SMART Boards to enhance the learning experience for students and teachers alike.
ACS has been named the best educational value in the Southeast by The Wall Street Journal, ranked No. 3 on the list of Best School Districts in Alabama by Niche.com, and has landed on the list of “Top 100 School Systems in the U.S.” in Parenting magazine.
Both Wrights Mill Road Elementary School and Auburn Early Education Center have been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as National Blue Ribbon Schools, and Auburn Early Education Center has been named an Intel and Scholastic School of Distinction.
In the realm of technology, ACS is proud of the 1:1 initiative that began at Auburn Junior High School in 2006. Expanding the initiative in 2018, iPads are now provided to each student in grades 7-12.
Auburn High School students consistently score above the state and national averages on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and the American College Test (ACT). ACS is regularly among the highest-ranking school systems in the state of Alabama for these test scores.
With a 98% graduation rate (2022), Auburn High School graduates have been awarded more than $220 million in scholarships since 2012 ($23.1 Million for the Class of 2022).
For more information on ACS, visit www. auburnschools.org and follow all things related to the school system on Facebook (search Auburn City Schools), on Instagram (@AuburnCityEdu) and Twitter (@AuburnCityEdu).

University Scholarships

Finding and applying for scholarships can be hard work. With the Auburn University Scholarship Opportunity Manager (AUSOM), it has never been easier. Through AUSOM, students can view available scholarships they may be eligible to receive, complete scholarship applications, accept awards and more. Students are only required to complete the AUSOM application once each academic year.
To receive consideration for need-based scholarships each year, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fasfa.ed.gov. It must be received by the financial aid priority deadline.
Students can find AUSOM on My Finances within AU Access. Additional information about AUSOM, including application completion and submission information, may be found on the Office of University Scholarship website.
Student Financial Services
auburn.edu/sfs
Student Financial Services is home to financial aid, cashiering, billing and account services. Students may view their financial aid requirements and awards on their My Finances page of AU Access.
In addition to filling out the financial release form, students must make parents or family members an authorized user through eBill to give them access to billing. It is important to have this conversation with your student prior to the first billing cycle, so there is a clear understanding of who will be making payments on the account.
eBill is the hub to all student bills at Auburn. This includes tuition and mandatory fees, dining plans, residence halls, parking tickets and other miscellaneous charges.

East Alabama Medical Center
2000 Pepperrell Parkway, Opelika (334) 749-3411 | eamc.org
When people think of health care in AuburnOpelika, they think of East Alabama Health. What began in 1952 as a standalone 81-bed facility called Lee County Hospital that provided mostly general services is now a health care system with more than 200 physicians covering nearly every specialty. East Alabama Health encompasses East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, EAMCLanier in Valley, the Spencer Cancer Center in Opelika, the Auburn Medical Pavilion and a host of other key medical clinics and practices that help provide a continuum of care to patients throughout an 11-county area.
East Alabama Medical Center—which started as Lee County Hospital more than 70 years ago—is the landmark location for the organization. It is a 340-bed regional referral hospital (314 acute care beds and 26 skilled nursing beds) where more than 150,000 people are cared for annually. The Emergency Department there cares for more than 50,000 patients annually, and over 2,000 babies are born each year in the hospital’s Women’s and Children’s Center.
Under the leadership of President and CEO Laura Grill, East Alabama Health (EAH) is expanding and improving with each new year. Long considered one of the best places to work in the region, East Alabama Health employs around 3,500 people — second only to Auburn University in this area.
East Alabama Health’s newest addition is an 85,000 square foot facility in the Auburn Research Park called Auburn Medical Pavilion (AMP). Located near the intersection of Shug
Jordan Parkway and South College Street, the AMP’s first floor consists of the East Alabama Medical Center Freestanding Emergency Department. It is open 24/7 and is supported by an outpatient imaging center, a laboratory and a satellite pharmacy called East Alabama Apothecary. The second floor is dedicated solely to the East Alabama Ambulatory Surgery Center, which is a joint venture between East Alabama Health and 16 area physicians. Currently, the only service provided on the third floor is the Breast Health Center. The team there, led by Cynthia Lorino, M.D., provides patients with comprehensive and personalized breast health services. The center is equipped with the latest in breast health imaging, including three 3D mammography machines and two ultrasound machines.
Back at East Alabama Medical Center, the birth of another new service occurred in fall 2021, when the hospital added a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). This much-needed service allows premature babies to be cared for locally by experienced neonatologists. Not only do the babies get the care they need, parents are able to function more easily in the familiar confines of their home community.
East Alabama Health also includes EAMCLanier, a second hospital located in Valley. It has 98 acute care beds, a 17-bed acute rehab unit, 20-bed senior behavioral health unit, and a 103-bed nursing home. Also, East Alabama Health operates the Auburn University Medical Clinic and a host of other entities (see eastalabamahealth.org).
Operated by East Alabama Health the Auburn Medical Pavilion is an 85,000 square foot health sciences facility housing a free standing emergency department, an ambulatory surgery center with four surgical suites as well as a pharmacy.

Mr. Spencer served on the EAMC Board of Directors from 1982–2008, including the last 18 years as board chairman. The Spencer Cancer Center is almost four times as large as the facility at EAMC that served the community from 1992–2019.
