Northeast El Paso. All of these locations have what you need from racquetball, volleyball and basketball courts to indoor and outdoor tracks. Just looking for a hot sauna to relax and soothe your sore muscles? Aside from Milam PFC, all four of the other locations have sauna facilities for men and women to include the brand-new, high tech sauna at Stout PFC. Visit any one of these facilities and get a feel of what you like. Ironworks Gyms Now, maybe traditional gyms are not your style, if that’s the case, try Ironworks East or West. These gyms are designed for a more mission-side type of fitness. They are set up for Soldiers who have a particular way of training for the mission. The Ironworks facilities are open to all DoD ID cardholders. Tennis Center & Fitness Zone If these locations are still not your cup of tea, Tennis Club and Fitness Zone is a quiet, little place sitting right behind Sheridan Road. Here you’ll get the necessary workout with a little less “noise.” If you’re into tennis, this is the perfect place to be with five lighted tennis courts that are open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and two practice courts. Lessons are available for adults and kids. Aquatics If swimming is more appealing, Fort Bliss has four pools for water fun. There are two main pools that will fit your fitness needs, while the other two are more for fun in the sun! The Community and Soldier Activity pools are the seasonal recreational type. However, Community Pool does have lap lanes and a slide! The Aquatics Training Center (ATC) and Replica Pool have a lot to offer from their indoor Olympic size lap pools to ATC’s family pool with a waterfall and climbing wall. Replica also has a fun indoor slide and you’ll be sure to get the laps and/or fun you want and need. Adults can use the ATC and Replica for swimming lessons. Children can also learn to swim at these facilities through the SKIES CYS program. Other times patrons are doing laps, enjoying the multi-purpose pool with their children, or attending one of the family friendly events. The one thing that differentiates the ATC from Replica is that ATC is a military training facility too, while the other is mainly for recreational purposes. ATC offers Combat Water Survival Training (CWST) and Shallow Water Egress Training (SWET) for Soldiers throughout the year. Their doors are open to all service members and local diving teams to use the facility for their personal use or mission trainings.

FORT BLISS MWR CREATES FUN FOR ALL

Easter-Avaganza Every year in spring, begins with a huge outdoor celebration at Biggs Park on the Saturday before Easter. The weather is usually just starting to warm up and if it’s possible to avoid the spring El Paso winds it is a great kick off to the event season. Be forewarned, this is not a traditional egg hunt, but it’s filled with lots of entertainment, music, fun activities for children to enjoy and best of all free pictures with the Easter Bunny! Armed Forces Day Parade and Celebration Each third Saturday in May is reserved to celebrate all of the Armed Forces. The MWR Marketing and Special Events team take advantage of this patriotic holiday with a parade and celebration to beat all others. The parade marches through historic west Fort Bliss and ends at the corner of Noel Parade Field. It consists of more than 1,000 participants from community organizations, high school bands, car clubs to local businesses, military vehicles and more. They are all led by the 1st Armored Division (1AD) Band and Joint Task Force North color guard. Following the parade, the celebration continues at Noel Field with military static displays, a car show, military working dog displays, a 1AD band performance, music, inflatable attractions, food trucks and more. Don’t miss out on this unique action-packed event this May! @blissmwr

Aquapalooza Let’s kick off summer with sun and water! Aquapalooza is traditionally held on the third Saturday of June at Biggs Park. Pop Goes the Fort is the largest event on Fort Bliss with attendance in excess of 20,000 people from both the installation and the city. Don’t worry though, Biggs Park has 26 grassy acres which allows plenty of space to spread out your blanket and prepare for the best fireworks show in the area. This event also has a food truck food court with more than 15 trucks serving all types of food and desserts. The MWR Marketing team is also on hand selling fun light up toys that add color and shine to the field as night falls and the fireworks begin. Make sure to mark your calendars for the Fourth of July to celebrate America and freedom with MWR! summer event – probably one of the smallest event held. However, it might possibly be the most favorite! This event requires creativity, ingenuity, a little engineering, maybe some aerodynamics, and all-around fun for all who participate. Combine all of those things, plus some cardboard and duct tape, and see if you can create a seaworthy vessel capable of making it from start to finish. Did you know that a captain and a first mate must sail in the ship together? Compete for one of the coveted cardboard trophies in the categories of Biggest Shipwreck, Longest Voyage and Most Creative Vessel. You don’t even need a boat to enjoy this event! Each year there are just as many spectators as there are sailing crews, so make sure you save the date and join the fun this August! Doggy Swim Day The last day in the Community Pool is reserved for the dogs at Fort Bliss! MWR Marketing and Special Events team are a little partial to all the furry four-legged friends. Between both offices, there are 14 dogs at home, so it’s pretty easy to see why an event was created just for them. Humans have all summer to enjoy the pool from Memorial to Labor Day. On the last “pool” day in September, 50-125 well-behaved dogs are able to jump in the pool with their pet parents. It’s a fun in the sun afternoon for the dogs! Admission is $2 for the dogs’ and pet parents come in for free! For safety reasons, children five and younger are not allowed at the pool, children ages six to 17 are able to attend, but not allowed in the pool. Remember to bring shot records – your pets, not yours – and good humor, because you may win the dog-owner look alike contest!

Oktoberfest Oktoberfest is a time-honored tradition on Fort Bliss that has been happening for more than 40 years. For the past 8 years, MWR has taken over the reins from our friends at the German Air Force Air Defense Center to keep this fun tradition alive. This three-day event is held annually on the third weekend in September at Biggs Park. From Friday through Sunday, Biggs Park is closed down and transformed into a little glimpse of Munich right here in the Sun City. Live music from Terry Cavanagh and the Alpine Express and dancing from the German Schuplattler dance group entertains patrons each night and all day Sunday. Along with traditional German food and beer, a photo booth, bull riding attraction, German merchandise sales, stein hoisting contests and more! Both Friday and Saturday night are ticketed and only open to adults ages 18 and older. The ticket cost is for entrance and includes a commemorative liter glass beer stein. Sunday is an open day for all ages with no tickets needed. Sunday’s afternoon event also incorporates more family friendly performances, inflatable attractions and other food truck options. Tickets go on sale in early August so grab yours before they sell out!

The Massacre Haunted House Enter if you dare, this haunted house is not for the faint of heart. This haunted house began in 2012 as an attempt at a Halloween attraction that would rival the off-post options. Ten years later, it has evolved into the scariest haunted house in all of El Paso with families coming as part of their annual Halloween tradition, and guess what … it’s only $5 per person to enter! Do not make the mistake of thinking that the price tag is an indication of the level of scare. Tears and screams flow freely from both child and adult, one of the reasons why there is a well-used chicken exit. Get ready for the scare of a lifetime beginning in October, every Friday and Saturday through Halloween night. Monster Bash Halloween is a favorite holiday at MWR Marketing and Special Events and it shows with all of the scary fun created for you in October. Monster Bash is a two-day annual opportunity to scare and entertain patrons of all ages! This event occurs just outside the Massacre Haunted House location. There are three haunted houses to choose from, a Barely Scary house, a Kinda Scary house – for those looking for a more tame experience – and of course the very scary Massacre Haunted House. Monster Bash also has many traditional fun attractions like inflatables, music, food trucks, games and crafts. Make sure to have your costumes ready by the third weekend in October, so you can come celebrate Halloween at Monster Bash! Holiday Festival Finally, let’s wrap up the year of fun with a celebration for the holidays. This is the time to dress warmly for outside fun at Biggs Park. Enjoy games, rides, lights display, music, crafts, hot chocolate, and maybe a little snow. Set your calendars aside for the first Friday in December to celebrate Holiday Festival. There is also a surprise visit from Santa for all of the good children of Fort Bliss, be sure to get your free photos with him. Hope to see you there! *Due to current situations some events may be limited. @blissmwr

Fort Bliss hospital history has come a long way from its first establishment in 1880 at Hart Mills. The brand new state-of-the-art William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC) opened their doors July 11, 2021 at their new location, with an address of 18511 Highlander Medics St., Fort Bliss, Texas, 79918. Seen from the Franklin Mountains, the new WBAMC is a huge hospital to take in. At about 1.13 million square feet, the hospital can be seen for miles. When you first arrive, it can be a little confusing to know exactly where to go. Thankfully, there are maps provided in this magazine and throughout the hospital grounds to help you figure out which area to enter. There are also Red Cross Volunteers ready to greet you and assist you in familiarizing yourself with the facility. To get there by driving, the most common entrance is the Master. Sgt. Victor H. Espinoza gate, which you will find off Spur 601, exit Constitution. Once you exit Constitution, head south and follow the street toward the gate. To enter, all you need is a driver’s license. The hospital is an open-post part of the installation, because they service beneficiaries who are veterans with TRICARE health plans, fully qualifying them to receive care at the facility. Around the hospital, there are 32 Blue Emergency Posts. These posts allow patients to push the button and the hospital security staff will answer. Patients @blissmwr

can then request assistance to get to the facility after parking. The hospital security staff assist patients with access to the hospital from their parking spot. The main entrance to the hospital faces southeast with desert landscape and art sculptures inviting people to come and view. The main centered sculpture has metal birds creating an illusion they are “flying” making an outline of an eagle’s head. The fifth floor is full dedicated to women’s health. The labor and delivery area connect through the skyline walkway to the OB-GYN clinic, giving patients and doctors quick access in case of an emergency. WBAMC is a Level 3 Trauma Center with 135 in-patient beds, 10 integrated operating rooms and an emergency room. There are two clinics, east and west, with 269 exam rooms. Other services include family medicine, behavioral health, ancillary services, surgery and other special programs. The mission of the hospital is to provide safe, high-quality, patientcentered care to build and sustain a ready medical force. The hospital commander’s vision is to become military medicine's most trusted healthcare provider. To reach the information desk, call 915-742-7777, Monday through Saturday, 24 hours a day. To make, change, or cancel an appointment, please call the appointment line at 915-742-2273. APR | MAY | JUN
