Strike called off at Torrevieja Hospital

the committee oftorrevieja hospital has called off the strike that was scheduled for 11th april after having reached an agreement with the Ministry of health regarding the working conditions for permanent staff members and statutory personnel of the health department. this is the best agreement that could have been reached, according to Fran García, the works council

spokesman. he said when comparing this situation with that of the alzira health department, which reverted from being privately managed by rivera to public management.

the company committee has implied that the negotiation of the collective agreement is ongoing and that this initial agreement has only been made in order to meet enough basic needs to ensure the strike was

called off. plans are being discussed to be implemented over the next five years including the commitment to reduce working hours until it reaches 1,513 hours for statutory staff in 2028, which translates into 35 hours a week. improvements to sick leave and maternity leave will also be made in 2023, along with negotiations for the progressive increase in the pay for on-call hours moving towards the

equalisation of pay with the statutory staff.

the works council has thanked the Ministry of health for its change of attitude in the last three meetings and hope that it will continue in the next two meetingson 20th april and 5th May, when it will be agreed how the implementations will be implemented between 2024 and 2025.

Tourist holiday rental scam busted

Guardia Civil officers have dismantled a criminal organisation specialising in a holiday rental scam and targeting tourists across the country. in a statement, the police said that the ‘rent Scam’ organisation was made up of 42 people and allegedly led by a man who ran it all from his prison cell.

they said that the gang specialised in ‘computer scams related to vacation accommodation’, and that 128 scams had already been identified. they have not ruled out further scams coming to light.

twenty-nine people have so far been arrested and another 13 are under investigation. the arrests were carried out simultaneously in the local provinces of alicante, Valencia andCastellón, as well as Madrid, toledo, Ciudad real, pontevedra, a Coruña, ibiza, Bilbao, Santander, huelva, Cádiz, Málaga, Granada, Murcia, Barcelona and tarragona.

the operation began in September, when the Guardia Civil detected an increase in

complaints related to vacation scams on various specialised platforms and websites.

With the information provided by the victims, a comprehensive study of the website pages where the accommodation was offered was carried out, verifying how those responsible placed adverts on legal platforms in which they offered accommodation at a lower price than the market average, in order to capture the attention of the victims and then collect the money in advance.

the officers were then able to verify the existence of a complex criminal organisation that was divided into subgroups throughout Spain, locating and relating them to more than a hundred criminal acts.

the police said the ‘network acted in different groups that were led by a man with a long criminal record for computer scams, and who directed them from a prison where he was an inmate’.

to commit the scams, the police said that someone

Orihuela Costa beach bars to go

from the gang travelled to places where there were attractive properties, taking photographs of them to later be used by other members whowere in charge of placing the adverts.

another group was in charge of generating false documentation to open bank accounts where the money from the scams would end up, as well as emails and telephone numbers that were associated with the adverts. Finally, there was a network of ‘mules’ in charge of transferring the proceeds of the crime between other bank accounts and making it difficult to trace the money, as well as using other ids to withdraw the money from atMs.

the 42 members of the group are 12 women and 30 men, the vast majority with police records for similar crimes. all of them are accused of computer fraud, belonging to a criminal organisation, identity theft and money laundering. More than 75 bank accounts used by the gang have been blocked.

orihuela town hall has been told it needs to physically remove all of the beach bars along its coastline. the Chiringuitos have been closed for some time, due to a wrangle over contracts but now the provincial Coastal authority (Costas) has ordered their removal from maritime land. as they are closed indefinitely, the structures are unauthorised and uninsured to be on the beaches, and if the local government doesn’t follow its instructions, then Costas will take steps to have them taken down.

the beach bars closed on 1st January, after the contract extension ran out and since then orihuela town hall has failed to complete a new

tender process for the contract and provision of services. the contract includes several services, not just the beach bar itself. it also covers sun loungers, water sports and activities and toilets. it is believed that several companies have bid for the new contract, including the incumbent supplier. however, given the complexities of the service Costas seem to doubt that the beach bars will be up and running anytime soon and maybe not even by the start of the summer tourist season.

Costas has been keen to point out that structures are only permitted on beaches if they are providing a service to the public and cannot complete the service from another location.

a letter was issued in March instructing the current supplier, Chiringuitos del Sol to removes its beach bars within 10 days. in response the company called on the city council to reopen the beach bars immediately so that a public service could be carried out over the easter holidays and also pointed out that taking down the structures would have a negative impact on tourism and the local economy. however, this didn´t happened and the bars were cordoned off by the police. the company is now legally challenging the decision made by Costas and is also requesting compensation for financial losses due to the dana, Covid and inflation.

Two arrested for smuggling equipment to Russia

Spanish investigators have arrested a Ukrainian and a russian on suspicion of smuggling military aeronautical equipment to russia, defying an eU embargo linked to the Ukraine war. they were arrested at separate locations in the northern Basque Country in an operation by police and customs investigators to stop an “imminent” shipment to russia, an interior Ministry statement said.

“the raid was launched to prevent the imminent dispatching from eU territory of equipment for the cockpits of military aircraft,” it said, without saying exactly when it happened. investigators were tipped off in June 2021 about a married

couple, both Ukrainians, who were running a Spanish company “evading existing export controls, thereby committing a smuggling offence”.

While checking the firm’s export records, investigators discovered a network to supply military equipment to Moscow’s aeronautical sector with a “profound knowledge of transportation logistics”. it had designed a “sophisticated system of international customs documentation” that allowed it to ship goods “to countries not facing an embargo when in reality the destination was russia”.

investigators arrested two suspects — a Ukrainian and a russian — one of whom

Fatal road accident in Pilar

was running the network, the statement said. a police spokeswoman was not able to clarify whether the detained Ukranian was one of the two people running the company. one of the suspects has been placed in pre-trial detention. during the raid, investigators also seized documentation and computer equipment as well as two high-end vehicles.

the statement said russia’s military industry had been “severely impacted” by an eU arms embargo. the eU first banned arms exports to Moscow following russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014, but has significantly tightened the rules through sweeping sanctions imposed over its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

a fatal accident in pilar left one person dead at the scene. the crash happened at 7am on the ap-7, at the dehesa de Campoamor exit in the municipality of pilar de la horadada. a van carrying nine people to work left the carriageway at some speed and ended upside down at the side of the road. the passengers were trapped inside the vehicle.

the firefighters from torrevieja

Fire Station rushed to the scene and began to rescue the workers. of the 9 people, one, believed to be the driver of the vehicles died instantly. the eight others were all injured to varying degrees and two of them, men aged 28 and 19, had to be transferred in a SaMU and SVB with serious injuries. they were taken to the Vega Baja hospital.

Criminal gang caught forging documents in Torrevieja

a gang has been dismantled in torrevieja after its members were caught offering falsified documents to citizens of other countries so that they could claim links with the Ukraine and benefit from the social and financial systemsavailable for those displaced by the war.

national police officers have arrested 19 people after an investigation. the operation began after forged documents were presented by two russian citizens, who were posing as residents of Ukraine. the documents were passed to the Unit against illegal immigration networks and document Falsification (UCriF) of alicante and to the UCriF of Valencia, with the units joining forces to find out where the documents came from.

during the investigation, officers initially made 16 arrests over document falsification for citizens from russia, Belarus, Georgia and Moldova who had al acquired fake documents. these ranged from permanent residence cards and certificates, marriage licences, birth or death certificates among others.

Finally, officers located the alleged main perpetrators behindthe forgeries. these were a woman and two men who ran an agency in torrevieja.

they identified potential clients for the illegal documents from people who came to the business with genuine requirement. Clients were charged between 3,000 and 5,000 euros for each document.

thethree detainees are accused of the crimes of documentary falsification, favouring illegal immigration and belonging to a criminal gang.

in the searches carried out, officers seized documentation from the detainees, printing stamps, headed paper, official documents from countries such as russia and Moldova. there was also tools and equipment

such as an electronic sealer, a dataphone, two laminators, photographic paper and numerous software programs all used for the forgery of documents. they also seized 23,500 euros in cash. those arrested were placed at the disposal of the investigating Court 3 of the torrevieja Guard. the rest of the detainees were released after making a statement at the police station. the investigation is still open and further arrests are not being ruled out once the analysis of the large amount of data, both physical and digital, of the documents seized has been completed.

Orihuela Costa ‘thrown to wolves’ by the Royal British Legion

despite being the most successful branch by far in terms of monies raised, a third of all poppy appeal donations generated amongst the district’s 15 branches, very nearly half a million euros in it’s ten years of existence, the orihuela Costa Branch and it’s 140 members, has been ‘thrown to the wolves’ by the Spain district north Committee, abandoning it’s supporters, as the branch is put into ‘administration’……. and it’s sin….allowing a branch standard bearer to attend an outdoor memorial event, held on a very hot summer’s day, in shirt sleeve order. it seems as though the sentiment ‘duty of care’ regularly quoted by the rBl, is only a ‘sound bite’ for the ears of the general public, as it is certainly not being applied to members and supporters in this

part of Spain. the branch has been unable to meet for over 4 months since the Chairman, followed by the remainder of the committee, was effectively ‘relieved of it’s duties’ by the district Committee, and despite many complaints and appeals submitted to the heaquarters in london, as long ago as last october, the hierarchy would appear to be ‘sitting on their hands’ no doubt hoping that the matter will simply go away. But unconcerned by events elsewhere, many former members still continue to get together regularly on a social basis, the latest gathering of which took place on easter Sunday, where almost 60 of them spent the afternoon in Yolo’s Cabo roig, enjoying a fine Sunday lunch. there was little talk of the rBl at the

tables but where there was it about how let down they feel by an organisation which purports to support veterans, to which many in attendance have given years of loyal service. nevertheless, former Secretary Jean heald said that she will continue to organise social events for this group of veterans for as long as they are required, the next of which will take place on Wednesday 24 May at the Captain’s table in punta prima. Following a short session of seated exercise there will be a presentation by Mark nolan of n332 on the new environmental laws that are currently being introduced for motorists, followed by a ‘Fish n Chip’ lunch. anyone wishing more information, or to book, should contact Jean by email at: rogolius@gmail.com

Los Locos beach project presented

the Mayor of torrevieja, eduardo dolon, along with the Councillor for projects, Sandra Sanchez, presented the project for the redevelopment of the playa de los locos (avenida dr. Mariano Canovas). eduardo dolón explained in his speech that work on this project has been underway for three years, first by meeting with residents of the area to inform them of the action that the town hall intends to carry out, and already, in august 2021 the drafting of the project was tendered and awarded in december 2022 to the architectural Studio of Juan ignacio Fuster Marcos, for an amount of 73,221.40 euros (Vat included).

the mayor reported that last February the Basic project was sent with all the necessary documentation to the provincial Coastal Service of alicante and also to the directorate General of ports of the Generalitat Valenciana, and is currently awaiting a response report from both administrations to be able to continue with the final project. the town Council’s intention is to be able to put the works out to tender after this summer and begin to carry out the redevelopment of the promenade at the end of this year.

A necessary redevelopment eduardo dolón has indicated that, in view of the current state of avenida doctor Mariano ruiz Cánovas, a new redevelopment is necessary to significantly improve accessibility to the coastline, providing it with pedestrian routes and large areas for

the enjoyment of the public, complying with the applicable regulations on accessibility in the urban environment, turning it into a pedestrian and urban promenade, but one that is more natural.

the aim of the government team is to give the promenade sufficient size to allow people to circulate and interact, improve accessibility to the beach, and allow a better relationship between the city and the beach that is more direct, friendlier and adapted to the new needs of the 21st century. to generate a more natural coastal image of the municipality that is compatible with the existing urban space by providing better infrastructures, shade and nature along the entire route.

an attempt has also been made to provide a response to the existence of the different terraces of the hotel and catering services, trying to give them a common image, delimiting the areas and offering a unitary and integrating current image. in short, it is a more natural proposal with an urban character, which makes its renaturalisation compatible as far as possible by introducing more green areas, pedestrian areas, trees, urban furniture with children’s play areas and bio-healthy areas.

Continuity of the promenades

the project is conceived as a continuation of the promenades that start from the port of torrevieja and connect the entire urban coast of the municipality. this promenade

borders the coastline which is already undeveloped land and will constitute for the moment the end of the urbanised pedestrian route that connects torrevieja to the seafront.

in addition to the particularities of a pedestrian promenade, it should be taken into account that it is elevated with respect to the beach at a variable height, ranging from 0.7 to 1.5 metres approximately.

there are also two areas of the promenade that receive a very strong flow of runoff water in the event of torrential rains (Curva del palangre and av. roentgen), which are being worked on together with agamed to converge in this project with the rainwater Master plan.

the reorganisation of traffic on the adjacent streets allows the pedestrianisation of avenida Mariano ruiz Cánovas, its continuations, and the streets that run along it, diverting road traffic to the streets behind it,

both private and large public transport. it has also been decided to divert the circulation of bicycles and VMp (personal mobility vehicles) by bicycle lanes in the back streets to avoid conflict with pedestrian traffic, as this would necessarily interrupt the transversal connection beach-promenade-terracebusiness that occurs continuously along the route, with the risk to safety that this would entail in an area of high population density in the summer season.

An urban but naturalised promenade the proposal focuses on creating an urban but naturalised promenade, proposing a continuous relationship between the city and the beach. it works on the basis of the slopes to achieve a fluid relationship between the different levels of the meeting point, blurring the limits, proposing a promenade on two levels, both of which remain within the existing line of the sea shore.

the first level, on the upper level, which currently corresponds to the levels of pavement giving access to the buildings, is a continuous, wide, stone promenade, which accommodates the character of pedestrian traffic, rest and social areas, as well as the complementary services of shops and restaurants (in particular terraces). this is the most urban area of the intervention, with an immediate relationship with the city and the building. this level incorporates restricted vehicle traffic for access to garages, as well as the necessary traffic easement on a promenade for emergency vehicles. the second level is a lighter element, with a wooden image, which smoothly connects the lower level (beach-sea level) with the upper level (current pavement level). there is a continuity of a narrower promenade on the lower level, and it ascends and descends from the upper level, unfolding as a winding path that crosses areas of proposed vegetation at different levels. in the intermediate areas between the promenades, there are terraces with a variety of vegetation and rest areas, and at the upper level, they increase in size and trees can be introduced to provide shade for the promenade, as well as sitting areas under the trees. in the beach area, small, light, removable, synthetic wood or equivalent, seafront promenades are established, as well as three children’s play areas and two packages of prefabricated, removable public toilets and sanitary facilities.

Should you keep hold of UK investments in Spain?

however well we have settled into our new lives in Spain, most UK nationals living here maintain some British habits. Whether it is a Sunday roast or watching British soaps, there are some ties we do not want to lose.

the same often applies for UK savings and investments. While many expats prefer to stick with what’s familiar, just how suitable are these arrangements for Spain?

Premium Bonds and ISAs launched 65 years ago, around 23 million Britons have over £100 billion in premium Bonds today. even though they do not provide any interest earnings or capital growth – which means their value will be eroded over time by inflation – the possibility of winning a large prize continues to appeal.

in Spain, investment income is added to your general income for the year and taxed at the scale rates of tax of up to 54% in the Valencian community.

iSas too are fully taxable in Spain in the hands of Spanish residents at the corresponding savings income tax rates up to 26%. this applies to income and gains from cash and share iSas. Some expats mistakenly think that since they are UK investments they do not need to be declared in Spain, but if you are tax resident here they need to be declared and taxed.

Bank interest

Similarly, although bank interest in the UK is taxfree under a certain threshold for UK residents, it is taxable for Spanish residents at the savings rates between 19% and 26%.

With interest rates for savings still very low and while the cost of living creeps up, many UK savings accounts are failing to outpace inflation, so it is worth exploring alternative structures for your money.

Alternative investment structures for Spain highly tax-efficient opportunities are available to residents of Spain. at Seagate we have a range of tax efficient products designed for Spanish residents, from household names such as prudential international.

Redevelopment of Torrevieja´s salt flat buildings proposed

this proposal was presented at the Centro Cultural Virgen del Carmen the proposed rehabilitation of the old Buildings of “Chemistry” of the Salinas de torrevieja, which has been attended by the mayor of torrevieja, eduardo dolon, the former director of las Salinas de torrevieja, pedro Gomez Mateo, and david ruiz Molina, architect who has made this proposal project commissioned by the City of torrevieja. the main idea of the project is to position the torrevieja salt flats

as a tourist and health resource by preserving, protecting and caring for the old buildings that are in disuse, converting them into an interpretation centre, museum and shop. in addition, another module would be rehabilitated as a space for catering and there will also be spaces for research and dissemination of products related to salt and its sludge. all this next to an area where the old settling ponds are located, which will be reconfigured into a salt hydrotherapy centre, which

can be used as a salt water bathing area, as well as mud therapy areas. not forgetting the rehabilitation of one of the old buildings to house the School of Salt Crafts, in order to keep alive the tradition of making salt boats curdled in the lagoon itself. all this with an action totally integrated with the natural environment and absolutely respectful of the aesthetic and ornamental conditioning factors that the site imposes. a complex that aims to

become the epicentre of dissemination and research on the Salinas de torrevieja, with the creation of an interpretation centre that will allow us to learn about the world of salt extraction and its applications, as well as to use it as a permanent museum.

For many years the image of the Salinas de torrevieja has been promoted as a centre for mud bathing, all of this with great inconvenience, given that users entered the lagoon in an uncontrolled manner. By means

of this solution, the old ponds, this controlled bathing area will be implemented and will become a singular and unique attraction in terms of tourism and health projection.

Finally, the mayor of torrevieja has reported that in the coming weeks will work with the company Salins to form the legal form to exploit this project, and will carry out the project of execution of work that will go along with the relevant authorizations by the public administrations involved.

‘i had further tests to see if the treatment had been successful, followed by an injection in my eye to prevent further damage from the radiation treatment. the team were pleased with the results and were able to tell me that everything is oK.i will now have regular six-monthlycheckups at the hospital, and a further eye injection every four months.

‘i have lost a very small amount of sight in my eye and the blurring in the

lower part of my left eye is permanent, but it’s not too bad and i’m so grateful for the excellent care i received.’

isabel Fenollar, store director of Specsavers Ópticas, says she was so pleased teresa came in to store when she noticed a change in her vision.

‘Unless your vision has changed, you may not give your eyes much thought when it comes to health. But your eyes can actually tell us a lot about your general health, even if they don’t feel any different. that’s why it’s so important to have your eyes tested regularly.

‘the tumour wouldn’t have been picked up without us carrying out a comprehensive eye test, which includes using the latest technology to check the front and back of the eye for any health problems, too.’

teresa agrees and says:‘i would strongly advise anyone to have regular eye checks. if i hadn’t visited Specsavers this condition may not have become evident for a considerable amount of time and the damage to my eye could have been irreversible and the cancer could have spread to other parts of my body.

‘i am so grateful to the optometrist Cecilia navarro for the thorough eye test and being so efficient in referring me and helping me to understand the importance of getting further tests and treatment as soon as possible.’

opticians at Specsavers Ópticas carry out thorough eye tests that provide professional, comprehensive checks of your eyes and vision. the test lasts about 20 minutes and includes the use of specialist equipment to examine eye health and to determine the correct lens strength and type for

you. Your optician will also answer any questions and address any specific problems you may be having with your vision. if necessary, the optician will refer you directly for further medical examination to an ophthalmologist. regular check-ups with Specsavers Ópticas can help you to maintain clear and comfortable vision. For most

people, it’s advisable to have an eye test every two years, but it’s best to attend earlier if any eye problems occur or if advised by your optometrist.there are six stores on the Costa Blanca, in Javea, Calpe, Benidorm, torrevieja, Guardamar and la Zenia. Visit www. specsavers.es to find your nearest store and book an eye test.

his pension for another two years, and so this is what is holding me back. However I feel about him, I don’t want to leave him high and dry. My brother said I could stay with him; he lives alone, right on the coast in a lovely place.

Your husband is not caring about your feelings is he. If I were you I

would go and see a Solicitor to discuss all the ins and outs of separating, because you might as well be on your own. Then, you could tell him you’ve taken legal advice on separating. If he won’t listen, write it all down, and leave him to read it. Then I would go to your brother’s - whatever the outcome a break will give you some space to think.

My husband no longer cares what he looks like, he is extremely overweight and sits in his reclining chair all day, eating . When he isn’t watching the television he is playing computer games. I don’t know what you are going to suggest I do because I have tried everything. I have attempted to talk to him; telling him he is ruining his health, and our relationship is suffering but he just shrugs and tells me to shut up and go away. I imagine he is depressed, but he has no real reason to be; there has not been an incident in his life to blame this on. I have stopped loving him I think. I don’t want to be married to him any more, but he depends on me. I work; he does not, and won’t. When we moved to Spain the plan was that we both work until we retired and could receive our pension. I was always the harder worker, and my husband made little attempt to get work, even though he is a qualified Electrician. There is no excuse not to work, as I’ve told him. Almoradi ecopark for Las Maromas

industrial estate

Almoradí Town Council unanimously approved in the last plenary session, the proposed agreement for the signing of an agreement with the Consorcio Vega Baja Sostenible to transfer the use of the municipal plot located in the Polígono de Las Maromas, in order to transform it into an ECOPARQUE.

With this ECOPARQUE the municipality will have containers for glass, packaging, cardboard, pruning and rubble from individuals and the selfemployed with weight limits, electronic waste, as well as hazardous waste (batteries, vegetable and car oils, X-rays, etc.). It will also have weighing scales, a control office with staff and access to users after registration, with the forecast of being able to provide service from Monday to Sunday, with uninterrupted opening hours.

The Almoradí Town Hall has described this proposal as excellent news, given that at last there will be proper and beneficial facilities for citizens and demanded by the Consistory itself since 2014. Finally, it should be noted that the maximum period foreseen for the start of the works is five months after the signing of the agreement and that the planned investment is around 500,000 euros.

Terra Natura Benidorm goes digital with an innovative virtual assistant

The Terra Natura Benidorm nature and animal park is moving forward in its digitalisation strategy with the integration of a chatbot, which has been developed by the technology company 1MillionBot. It is a bilingual virtual assistant that has been integrated into the park’s online communication tools to facilitate access to updated and detailed information on the experiences available and opening hours, as well as to facilitate the purchase of tickets in a simple, intuitive and accessible way.

The virtual assistant will be available specifically on the park’s website (www.terranatura. com) and on the company’s whatsapp. The incorporation of this new interactive tool is intended to reinforce the experience of customers when planning their visit to this park, which is dedicated to the conservation and dissemination of biodiversity.

The new virtual assistant that has been designed will be called ‘Bee’ and the graphic icon to access it will be a bee, in allusion to the conservation work that these insects carry out to maintain the balance of ecosystems and in line with the values of sustainability and protection of biodiversity that

mark the actions of Terra Natura Benidorm.

The chatbot will be available 24 hours a day in several languages, which will extend the customer service hours aimed at the international public. In addition to assisting and guiding users during the ticket purchase process, this tool will also provide information on the most frequently asked questions by the public.

In the creation and implementation of this new tool both entities, 1MillionBot and Terra Natura Benidorm, have worked hand in hand to implement a virtual assistant capable of adapting to the needs and specifications of the theme park, in order to offer a personalised, improved and effective experience for the user.

A team made up of the founder of 1MillionBot, Andrés Pedreño,

More than 1,000 people camp at the municipal recreational area during Easter week

The Councillor for Parks and Gardens of the City of Torrevieja, Antonio Vidal has reported that a total of 1,091 people will camp this Easter in the Municipal Recreation Area “José Eduardo Gil Rebollo”, in the 349 tents that have requested permission to be installed in this large green area located opposite the Cemetery of La Mata. The camping period is from Saturday, 1st April, until 17th April, both inclusive.

regulations for the use of recreational areas

Raquel Pomares (Linguistic Area Manager), Amanda Cabezas (Computational Linguist and leader of the project developed for Terra Natura Benidorm) and Eva Pérez (Head of Communications at 1MillionBot), travelled to the Terra Natura Benidorm park facilities in order to finalise the details of the assistant. There, they held a meeting with Luis Perea, general manager of Terra Natura Benidorm, as well as with the heads of the marketing, commercial and communication areas of the nature park to lead the development of the project.

By incorporating this virtual assistant, Terra Natura Benidorm enhances its digitalisation actions and places itself at the forefront of conversational technology within the leisure and entertainment sector in the Valencian Community.

Benejúzar launches a campaign to raise funds for new Early Intervention Centre

The Department of Commerce of the Town Council of Benejúzar is to launch a campaign to raise funds for the new Early Childhood Centre that ADIS will open in the town.

The initiative consists of the purchase, for just 1 euro, of solidarity pens with the slogan ‘Awaken your attention’. The pens can be purchased in the local shops belonging to the Association of Traders and Entrepreneurs (ACE), who collaborate in this initiative; in the ADIS centre, the association that is implementing the project, located at Calle Angelino Fons, 1; on the ADIS website, www.adisvegabaja. org/tienda/, on the website despiertatuatencion.com, or at the Town Hall.

The Benejúzar Town Hall, through the Department of Commerce, covers one hundred percent of the cost of the pens, “with the aim that all proceeds go to the Early Intervention Centre,” said the councillor responsible for the area, Manuel Parra. The councillor explained that “this is a very important initiative, because any help is welcome to help ADIS to set up a centre in our municipality which will soon be a reality and which will accommodate children with

disabilities or at risk of suffering from them”.

The premises where the centre will be located are in Calle Juan Carlos I, nº 20 in Benejúzar. The new space will be able to attend to 140 children per month in its 35 outpatient places. It will have a lobby and/or waiting room of 18 m², a management office of 10 m², three consultation rooms (both 15 m²), a multipurpose room of 20-25 m² and two toilets, which represents a significant monetary outlay.

For her part, the mayoress, Rosa García, has encouraged the citizens of Benejuela to participate in this initiative, as “this type of project costs a lot of work and behind it there

This avalanche of applications authorized by the Department of Parks and Gardens certifies that this great green lung has become for more than a decade in the main attraction of Torrevieja to enjoy the outdoors and tents in the traditional “picnics” of Easter.

In the authorisations, which are made by means of general instance, in the electronic headquarters of the City Council of Torrevieja (torrevieja. sedelectronica.es) attaching the responsible statement that appears for this purpose, it is stated that they must comply with the rules of use of the Municipal Recreation Area, which includes that they are obliged to remove the waste produced during their stay, using the containers for this purpose.

Furthermore, they must take responsibility for any type of damage that may be caused, not to make electrical connections to public lighting and to respect the Ordinance Regulating

Green Zones, Natural Areas and Street Trees, complying with it in all its terms. This ordinance, with regard to the protection of plant elements, prohibits any manipulation of trees and plants, throwing rubbish and rubbish and lighting fires.

The large pine forest of the Municipal Recreational Area

“José Eduardo Gil Rebollo” was created thanks to the reforestation carried out for almost two decades both by the Torrevieja Town Hall and by numerous associations, local entities and schools, especially with plantations of native pine trees. A recreational area with toilets, children’s playgrounds and recreational areas for the enjoyment of citizens, as well as picnic areas to enjoy a day in the countryside.

Great Chinese Circus star of Torrevieja´s new culture programme

The Councillor for Culture of the City of Torrevieja, Antonio Quesada, accompanied by Lalo Diez, director of Culture Torrevieja, and the coordinator of the Municipal Institute of Culture “Joaquin Chapaprieta”, Manuel Esteban Moreno, presented in the ambiguous Theatre Cultural Programming next quarter (May, June, July and August), as well as the results of the first quarter.

are people who are selflessly supporting it so that it can go ahead and we can have facilities in our municipality that will be a regional benchmark”.

Lourdes Pérez, president of ADIS, thanks the collaboration of the Department of Commerce with the sale of these solidarity pens that will help in the purchase of materials for the centre and to carry out the opening of the same. She would also like to thank all the companies that have already collaborated and encourages all those who have not yet done so to do their bit for this project of such importance, which will also cater for children with functional diversity.

Among the novelties that have been presented is the launch of the Youth Day, a discount for under 35 year olds that will be applied at the box office of the Municipal Theatre on the first Friday of each month. The aim of this initiative is none other than to bring the theatre closer to younger audiences. The “Friends of Culture” programme continues, as well as the discount for retired persons and the season ticket holders plan that was launched in the first four months of the year. The children’s activities on the last Sunday of the month will continue for the next four months, with the proceeds going to the local NGO “ADENIS”.

As for cultural events, the month of May will begin with

humour with the comedian “Martita de Graná” at the Municipal Theatre on the 6th.

The great musicals continue, such as “Cruz de Navajas”, which will take place in the Torrevieja auditorium from 11 to 14 May.

The month of May will close with a performance by Pantomima

Full on the 19th, and the soprano Ainhoa Arteta on the 27th.

The Magician Yunke will bring magic to the Municipal Theatre on the 16th of June, while laughter will be provided by the monologuist Ángel Martín on the 11th. El Brujo and Estrella

Morente will also form part of the programme for the month of June. Two musicals have been programmed for the younger ones, the first on 10 June, “Sherlock”, and the adventures of “Tadeo Jones” will take to the stage of the municipal theatre on 1 July.

More than 51 events are planned for the next four months such as the Chinese Acrobatic Circus, performances by local academies and associations and, of course, the International Habanera and Polyphony Contest.

8 tips for healthy eating

The key to a healthy diet is to eat the right amount of calories for how active you are so you balance the energy you consume with the energy you use.

If you eat or drink more than your body needs, you’ll put on weight because the energy you do not use is stored as fat. If you eat and drink too little, you’ll lose weight.

You should also eat a wide range of foods to make sure you’re getting a balanced diet and your body is receiving all the nutrients it needs.

It’s recommended that men have around 2,500 calories a day (10,500 kilojoules). Women should have around 2,000 calories a day (8,400 kilojoules).

Most adults are eating more calories than they need and should eat fewer calories.

1. Base your meals on higher fibre starchy carbohydrates

Starchy carbohydrates should make up just over a third of the food you eat. They include potatoes, bread, rice, pasta and cereals.

Choose higher fibre or wholegrain varieties, such as wholewheat pasta, brown rice or potatoes with their skins on.

They contain more fibre than white or refined starchy carbohydrates and can help you feel full for longer.

Try to include at least 1 starchy food with each main meal. Some people think starchy foods are fattening, but gram for gram the carbohydrate they contain provides fewer than half the calories of fat.

Keep an eye on the fats you add when you’re cooking or serving these types of foods because that’s what increases

the calorie content – for example, oil on chips, butter on bread and creamy sauces on pasta.

2. Eat lots of fruit and veg

It’s recommended that you eat at least 5 portions of a variety of fruit and veg every day. They can be fresh, frozen, canned, dried or juiced.

Getting your 5 A Day is easier than it sounds. Why not chop a banana over your breakfast cereal, or swap your usual mid-morning snack for a piece of fresh fruit?

A portion of fresh, canned or frozen fruit and vegetables is 80g. A portion of dried fruit (which should be kept to mealtimes) is 30g.

A 150ml glass of fruit juice, vegetable juice or smoothie also counts as 1 portion, but limit the amount you have to no more than 1 glass a day as these drinks are sugary and can damage your teeth.

3. Eat more fish, including a portion of oily fish

Fish is a good source of protein and contains many vitamins and minerals.

Aim to eat at least 2 portions of fish a week, including at least 1 portion of oily fish.

Oily fish are high in omega-3 fats, which may help prevent heart disease.

Oily fish include:

• salmon

• trout

• herring

• sardines

• pilchards

• mackerel

Non-oily fish include:

• haddock

• plaice

• coley

• cod

• tuna

• skate

• hake

You can choose from fresh, frozen and canned, but remember that canned and smoked fish can be high in salt.

4. Cut down on saturated fat and sugar

Saturated fat

You need some fat in your diet, but it’s important to pay attention to the amount and type of fat you’re eating.

There are 2 main types of fat: saturated and unsaturated. Too much saturated fat can increase the amount of cholesterol in the blood, which increases your risk of developing heart disease.

On average, men should have no more than 30g of saturated fat a day. On average, women should have no more than 20g of saturated fat a day.

Children under the age of 11 should have less saturated fat than adults, but a low-fat diet is not suitable for children under 5.

Saturated fat is found in many foods, such as:

• fatty cuts of meat

• sausages

• butter

• hard cheese

• cream

• cakes

• biscuits

• lard

• pies

Try to eat less saturated fat and choose foods that contain unsaturated fats instead, such as vegetable oils and

spreads, oily fish and avocados.

For a healthier choice, use a small amount of vegetable or olive oil, or reduced-fat spread instead of butter, lard or ghee.

When you’re having meat, choose lean cuts and cut off any visible fat.

All types of fat are high in energy, so they should only be eaten in small amounts.

Sugar

Regularly consuming foods and drinks high in sugar increases your risk of obesity and tooth decay.

Sugary foods and drinks are often high in energy (measured in kilojoules or calories), and if consumed too often can contribute to weight gain. They can also cause tooth decay, especially if eaten between meals.

Free sugars are any sugars added to foods or drinks, or found naturally in honey, syrups and unsweetened fruit juices and smoothies.

This is the type of sugar you should be cutting down on, rather than the sugar found in fruit and milk.

Free sugars are found in many foods, such as:

• sugary fizzy drinks

• sugary breakfast cereals

• cakes

• biscuits

• pastries and puddings

• sweets and chocolate

• alcoholic drinks

5. Eat less salt: no more than 6g a day for adults

Eating too much salt can raise your blood pressure. People with high blood pressure are more likely to develop heart disease or have a stroke.

About three-quarters of the salt you eat is already in the food when you buy it, such as breakfast cereals, soups, breads and sauces.

Use food labels to help you cut down. More than 1.5g of salt per 100g means the food is high in salt.

Adults and children aged 11 and over should eat no more than 6g of salt (about a teaspoonful) a day. Younger children should have even less.

7. Do not get thirsty

You need to drink plenty of fluids to stop you getting dehydrated. The government recommends drinking 6 to 8 glasses every day. This is in addition to the fluid you get from the food you eat.

All non-alcoholic drinks count, but water, lower fat milk and lower sugar drinks, including tea and coffee, are healthier choices.

Try to avoid sugary soft and fizzy drinks, as they’re high in calories. They’re also bad for your teeth.

Even unsweetened fruit juice and smoothies are high in free sugar.

Your combined total of drinks from fruit juice, vegetable juice and smoothies should not be more than 150ml a day, which is a small glass.

8. Do not skip breakfast

Some people skip breakfast because they think it’ll help them lose weight.

But a healthy breakfast high in fibre and low in fat, sugar and salt can form part of a balanced diet, and can help you get the nutrients you need for good health.

A wholegrain lower sugar cereal with semi-skimmed milk and fruit sliced over the top is a tasty and healthier breakfast.

The menopause and how to deal with the effects

Menopause is a natural biological process that occurs in women as they age. It marks the end of a woman’s reproductive years, and typically occurs between the ages of 45 and 55. During menopause, a woman’s body undergoes hormonal changes that can cause a variety of physical and emotional symptoms.

Some of the most common symptoms of menopause include hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, vaginal dryness, and difficulty sleeping. These symptoms can be uncomfortable and even debilitating for some women, but there are several ways to manage them.

One of the most effective ways to manage menopausal symptoms is through hormone replacement therapy (HRT). HRT involves taking medications that contain estrogen and progesterone, which can help alleviate symptoms like hot flashes and vaginal dryness. However, HRT is not suitable for all women and may carry certain risks, so it is important to talk to your doctor about whether it is right for you.

There are also several lifestyle changes that can help manage menopausal symptoms. These include:

• Eating a healthy, balanced diet that is low in fat and high in fiber

• Exercising regularly, which can help reduce hot flashes and improve mood

• Practicing stress-reduction techniques like meditation or yoga

• Avoiding caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods, which can trigger hot flashes

• Using lubricants or vaginal moisturisers to alleviate vaginal dryness

• Getting enough sleep each night,

which can be challenging for women going through menopause

It is also important to talk to your doctor about any symptoms you are experiencing, as there may be other treatments or medications that can help. By working with your doctor and making lifestyle changes, you can manage the effects of menopause and continue to lead a healthy, active life.

In addition to HRT and lifestyle changes, there are also alternative therapies that some women find helpful in managing menopausal symptoms. These include:

• Acupuncture: Some studies have suggested that acupuncture can help alleviate hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause.

• Herbal supplements: Certain herbs, such as black cohosh and red clover, have been used to alleviate menopausal symptoms. However, it is important to talk to your doctor before taking any herbal supplements, as they may interact with other medications or have unwanted side effects.

• Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT): CBT is a form of talk therapy that can help women manage the emotional and psychological symptoms of menopause, such as anxiety and depression.

• Bio identical hormones: Bio identical hormones are a type of HRT that is made from plant sources and is designed to be chemically identical to the hormones naturally produced by a woman’s body. However, there is limited research on the safety and effectiveness of bio identical hormones.

It is important to note that not all women experience menopausal symptoms, and those who do may experience them to varying degrees of severity. However, for women who do experience symptoms, there are many options available to help manage them. By working with your doctor and trying different approaches, you can find a treatment plan that works for you and helps you feel your best during this transition in your life.

Another important aspect of managing menopausal symptoms is maintaining good overall health. This includes regular check-ups with your healthcare provider, screenings for conditions like osteoporosis and heart disease, and maintaining a healthy weight. Women going through menopause are at an increased risk for certain health conditions, so it is important to stay proactive about your health.

It is also important to remember

that menopause is a normal part of the aging process, and that women should not feel ashamed or embarrassed about experiencing symptoms. Many women find it helpful to connect with others who are going through menopause, whether through support groups or online forums.

Finally, it is important to prioritise self-care during this time of transition. Women going through menopause may experience feelings of loss or sadness as they enter a new phase of life. Taking time to prioritise activities that bring joy and fulfillment, such as hobbies or spending time with loved ones, can help ease these feelings and promote emotional well-being.

In summary, menopause is a natural transition that can cause a variety of physical and emotional symptoms. However, there are many options available to help manage these symptoms, including HRT, lifestyle changes, alternative therapies, and

good overall health habits. By working with your healthcare provider and prioritising self-care, women can navigate this transition with grace and ease.

It is important to note that menopause can also have an impact on sexual health. Vaginal dryness, decreased libido, and pain during intercourse are common symptoms that can make sex uncomfortable or even painful. However, there are several options available to help alleviate these symptoms, such as using lubricants, vaginal oestrogen creams, or hormone therapy.

It is also important for women to continue getting regular Pap smears and mammograms, as the risk of developing certain cancers, such as breast and cervical cancer, increases with age.

Finally, it is important to remember that menopause is a unique experience for every woman. Some women may experience only mild symptoms, while others may experience more severe symptoms. It is important to talk to your healthcare provider about any symptoms you are experiencing, as they can help determine the best treatment plan for you.

In conclusion, menopause is a natural biological process that marks the end of a woman’s reproductive years. While it can cause a variety of physical and emotional symptoms, there are many options available to help manage these symptoms and promote overall health and well-being. By staying proactive about health, prioritising self-care, and working with healthcare providers, women can navigate this transition with confidence and ease.

Mercedes not thinking of Plan B in case Hamilton quits F1

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has made it clear he is not even considering a Plan B option for his team.

Hamilton’s contract with Mercedes runs out after this season, and the team and driver have yet to settle on an

agreement to extend it.

While there had been some hope of the matter quickly getting sorted over last winter, the discussions have been put on hold until Wolff and Hamilton can set aside a suitable time for talks to

take place.

But with no firm commitment from Hamilton about his plans for 2024, Mercedes could be exposed to having no suitable replacement available if the seven-time world champion makes a late call to not continue.

Mercedes wants Hamilton to commit to a fresh deal, but Wolff has insisted that he is so relaxed about the situation that he was not even thinking about any fallback options.

Speaking exclusively to Motorsport. com about the Hamilton situation, Wolff said: “I think it may sound naive, but I really struggle to think of a Plan B, if my Plan A is still the one that is my favourite.

“I don’t want to engage in discussions with other drivers, because I’m happy

with the ones that are in the team, that’s for sure. At the moment, there is no Plan B. It’s Lewis.”

While Wolff acknowledged that it would not be ideal if Mercedes had to scramble around for a new driver later this year if Hamilton did elect to quit, he was confident such a late call would not happen.

“I think that he would tell us early enough,” added Wolff. “I don’t think that Lewis would say: ‘I can’t do this any more. I’m out of here tomorrow.’

“He would always feel the responsibility for the team. He wouldn’t leave the team alone. Drivers can always take decisions [like that], but he wouldn’t let us down.

“But then, I think if you believe that you’re a team that is attractive for

others, you will find solutions.”

While Hamilton has not had the start to the season that he would have liked, he said his mindset was one of sticking around in F1 for a few more years.

Speaking at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, he said: “I love this team, I’m so grateful for everyone that’s been on the journey with me with this team.

“I don’t envisage being anywhere else, and I don’t see myself quitting, I don’t feel like I’m a quitter.

“But I wouldn’t say that it’s giving me a lot. You know, I’ve been there and done that, bought the T-shirt many times!

“But I am trying to be patient and work with the team to get us to a good place. And that’s all I can say right now. I’m not going anywhere else.”

Torrevieja handball Club to celebrate 50th Anniversary

The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón; the councilman of Deportes, Diana Box; the president of the C.BM. Mare Nostrum Torrevieja, Pablo Lopez; Francisco Javier Perez “Tavi” and Jose Antonio Carmona, have presented the acts programmed on the occasion of the celebration of 50 Anniversary of the Club Handball Torrevieja, that was founded in the year 1973.

Between the programmed acts an exhibition of photographies and other elements is included in the Exhibition Hall Vista Alegre, dinner of gala, campaigns of promotion in the schools, actions of promotion and workshops of the adapted handball, commemorative matches so much masculine as feminine, family photo of all those people who have played, trained or formed a part of the club from its foundation, to finalize with a great day of conviviality.

In addition to Tavi and Carmona and the president of Club Balonmano Mare Nostrum Torrevieja, Pablo López, the promoters of this commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the club have been Francisco Javier López, Fernando Albaladejo, Juan Carlos Gallego and Alfredo Mercader, among others.

Between the most important achievements in the history of the C. BM. Torrevieja they emphasize two promotions to Liga ASOBAL, in which it was 8 seasons, the organization of two Cups of the King (2002 and 2012), whereas in handball it emphasizes the first place of the Championship of Spain masculine cadet celebrated in Murcia in 1987, as well as the first place also in the Championship of Spain feminine juvenile that was disputed in Torrevieja

in 2021.

Finally, the mayor of the city remembered important people from the history of the club who are no longer with us, such as Esteban Rosado, Cecilio Gallego and Antonio Soler.

Eduardo Dolón has emphasized that the C. BM. Torrevieja has been and is an example of good work that continues harvesting successes thanks to a great quarry and to the work that its directors and trainers carry out daily.

Lo Crispin Golf Society at Saurines De La Torre

On Wednesday 5th. April 30 members, including 2 playing for Handicap and 1 guest, competed in an Individual Stableford competition at Saurines Golf, a venue at which the Society had not played at before. We would not have been playing there at all, as we were booked to play at Mar Menor, who transferred our booking to Saurines, following the closure of half the course at Mar Menor due to a water problem ! A Jack Nicklaus designed course, Saurines has many swales and hollows (including some of the greens, or so it seemed

to many of the players), which made finding and staying on the greens or very close to them with ‘approach’ shots somewhat problematic. A stiff breeze throughout most of the day, and variable green speeds also added the issues we had to contend with.

As usual we returned to the Lo Crispin Tavern, where welcome Tapas was provided by the helpful and friendly staff and the Day’s prizes were distributed.

Gold Division

1st. Place - Richard Brady 32 pts off 17

(on count back)

2nd Place - Steve King 32 pts off 18 (on count back)

3rd Place - Howard Soltau 32 pts 22

Silver Division

1st Place - Steve Harrington 34 pts off 33

2nd Place - Alex McCartney 33 pts off 36 3rd Place - Janet Candlin 32 pts off 40

As mentioned above the difficulties in finding and holding the greens resulted in just one player, Steve King being rewarded with a sleeve of golf balls for

achieving the nearest the Pin in 1 shot on the Par 3 sixth hole. Nobody could find the green or hold the green on the rest of the Par 3s. In the light of this it is hardly surprising that nobody was able to achieve a 2 on the day, which means that the 2s Pot will roll over to our next game, our Anniversary Trophy at Font Del Llop on 19th. April.

Finally, the Free Game Draw was won by John Dunnion, again ! Steve Harrington Membership and Handicap Secretary.

Imanyo Golf Society “Los Amigos Cup” at Altorreal

This is the fifth year we have played for this cup, sadly Tony Whyatt passed away four years ago but fellow members and friends Andy Godfrey and Alan Martin have taken the sponsorship in Tony’s memory.

This was our fourth visit this season to our favourite course Altorreal, the course was in its usual good condition. Once again, the weather was excellent for golf with the temperature at a pleasant 25 degrees and pure sun, so the order of the day was shorts. We played Tony’s favourite team format which had four players in a team changing partners every 6 holes scoring with the better ball Stableford points.

Six teams took part in a very tight scoring competition with only four points between fifth and first places with the eventual winners of the Los Amigos Cup on count back were Steve Burns, Chris Darling, Ian Chetwynd and

Steve Mathers with 78 points, runners up were Peter Kelly, John Bolt, Mo Chaplin and Graham Rumsey also with 78 points. All the nearest the pins were won group A hole 3 in John Bolt, hole 15 and 17 Alan Martin, group B, hole 4

“I Love Blue” Brian Gordon, hole 9 “Sat Nav” Steve Day, hole 17 “Fish Called Wanda” Mo Chaplin, best front 9 on count back went to “Sat Nav” Steve Day with 19 points and best back 9 went to “Mr Blackpool” Ian Chetwynd also with 19 points, the two’s pot of €60 was won byAlan Martin on hole 17. The football card was won by Christine Davison with Middlesborough winning €40 and raising €40 for this year’s charities.
