IN THE GARDEN WITH EDEN GARDENS

All we need is a little

PLANT THERAPY

Right now’s a great time to get your garden in shape. Add some Spring flowers, or start seeding Winter vegetables? It’s the perfect time to get your garden ready for Spring. Plant perennials, bulbs, trees and shrubs now and come Spring, it will be bursting with beautiful blooms.

Adding a variety of plants to your backyard is the best way you can cater for all this biodiversity. The more creatures you attract, the better nature will balance out its ecosystem. Fill your garden with nectar-rich blooms to entice wildlife. Here are some of our favourites for Autumn.

GREVILLEAS Grevilleas are Australian natives that are easy to grow. They thrive in most

gardens, coastal or inland and they virtually don’t stop flowering.

KANGAROO PAWS Kangaroo paws are a great addition to any garden for their bold colour, vibrancy and colour varieties. And they attract birds and bees too.

FANFLOWERS Fanflowers are a native trailing plant, also known as Scaevola, that will cope in full sun or half shade. Its cascading habit makes it perfect for pots, ideal for embankments, rockeries or baskets.

BOTTLEBRUSH Nothing says Australian Summer like the delightful banksia. Birds and bees will be attracted to this shrub or a small tree adorned with big, boisterous blooms. The perfect plant for your garden!

EPACRIS Native to southeast Australia, Epacris is an attractive medium-sized open shrub that is worth growing for the showy masses of bellflowers produced from Autumn to Spring.

ASTERS These starry-shaped daisy-like perennials range in colour from white to blue to purple. Their attraction provides the pollinators with an important supply of nectar.

FLOWERING GUM Australian Flowering Gums make a beautiful addition to any garden. With broad, glossy leaves and gum nuts in Summer, these medium-sized trees create a focal point. And, they don’t just look great—they’re a perfect source of nectar for native birds, bees and butterflies.•

It’s the beginning of Autumn! It’s the best time to plant—and it starts today! • Put in bulbs now for Spring. The warm soil and moist beds help the bulbs and seeds to thrive until Spring. • Plant Winter vegetables, tropical fruits, citrus and herbs like coriander and dill. • Plant Spring flowers like sweet peas, poppies and pansies. • Lawns love nutrients! Apply oversow lawn seed to your lawns for a gorgeous growth and repair.

Many of us see our garden as a sanctuary. Whether you have a big backyard or just a tiny apartment balcony, your garden is a place where you can sit back, relax and unwind. And it’s even better when there are lots of birds, bees and butterflies flitting around – a real sign that nature has chosen your garden as a home.
